Title: VWPT
Post by: jeff46902 on June 29, 2005, 03:14:23 PM
Would this be a good time to buy VWPT?  It looks like it's breaking out after bouncing off support at 1.35 or so.  MACD and other indicators turning bullish.

Something may be up here.  Haven't seen volume this large on an up day in ages.  Volume nearly 5x usual.  Can't find any news.  I've followed this dog for a few years and IMO feel there isn't much down side left.  I've been waiting for a ray of light to re-enter.

Forgot to post the daily chart.  Notice the volume went crazy after 2pm.  May be an exciting open tomorrow.

Well, well, well.  Volume took off from 400K to 780K+ in a few minutes.  Up 10%.

Very unusual for this stock.  If it finishes up on high volume again I'd be afraid that the world will end. ;)

I know. I've held this one for awhile now, and the abnormally high volume (for VWPT) along with the white candle yesterday is encouraging! It has also broke its descending trendline, so we'll see how it handles the resistance at about $1.42....

It may be that I'll finally be out of the VWPT hole - or you could be right and the world is going to end!  ;)

thunderbunny,

I hope you get out of that hole.  Many people have been in it.  I lost a lot on this one over the years.  Now I keep some funds aside and wait for an entry point.  Sometimes they're months apart but that's ok.  When it looks good I get back in, like today.  Short term only, usually a 2-4 day run.  I'm wondering if there's a buyout in the works because I can't find anything going on for this action.

If it crosses the 50DMA at 1.46 I'm putting on a hard hat and sitting in a corner waiting for the sky to fall!!! :)

Go VWPT (from your biggest fan).

Won't post a chart as already done, but bought VWPT yesterday because volume and 1 day red candle showed me it was going to fill up to $1.50 zone. If the great vol continues and it should as this move will put it on loads of momo filters then i am looking for a spike towrds the 200ema $1.95 area. Some speculation that the contract for GE and Rolls Royce (huge fighter aircraft build) has had an effect on this run. Don't know myself, but the chart says up ;)

OK now we know why the volume kicked in on Tuesday. Might be an interesting few days trading on VWPT following this news. The new CEO's 1.5M options will be priced as at the opening bell Thursday. I have a sell around $2, will see.

Patrick Vogt Named Chief Executive Officer at Viewpoint; Board Member Takes Reins After Leading Sony, HP, and Dell E-Business Divisions; Company Schedules August 25th Conference Call at 10 a.m. ET
8/24/2005 4:00:09 PM
NEW YORK, Aug 24, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Viewpoint Corporation ( VWPT ) today named Patrick Vogt president and chief executive officer, effective August 25th. Mr. Vogt, already a member of the Viewpoint board, has run major divisions of Dell, Hewlett Packard, and Sony over the past twelve years, and is one of the most highly-regarded executives in the technology industry.

"I've been involved with Viewpoint for seven years as a customer, advisor, advocate and board member, and am ecstatic about the opportunity to lead the company, its employees, and its customers to new levels of success," said Mr. Vogt. "Jay Amato did a great job focusing the company's product strategy, while placing the company on a solid path to profitability and positive operating cash flow. Now we're in position to drive top line growth while maintaining focus on operating efficiencies, and therefore continue the trend to profitability."

Jay Amato, current President and CEO, said, "My two-year assignment with the company had several overriding goals: to find new sources of revenue that were scalable and predictable and to bring stability to the company's financial picture. Now, we have achieved those goals and we are well positioned to grow all lines of our business: online advertising through the Unicast Advertising group; the consumer side via the Viewpoint Search Toolbar and our new Fotomat photo service; and in our outstanding Creative Services team. Patrick's experience in online sales, advertising and marketing makes him an ideal candidate to take the company to the next level."

Vogt has more than 18 years experience managing, marketing, selling and providing strategic planning for the direct businesses of world-renowned corporations. Vogt joins Viewpoint after serving as the senior vice president and senior general manager for Sony Electronics Inc., where he headed the direct business for all Sony products across all customer segments, e-business for all distribution channels, and all direct marketing. Prior to his position with Sony, Vogt was vice president and general manager with the Hewlett-Packard Corporation where he ran the Americas' eBusiness Group, including sales, marketing, operations and the internet properties. Vogt also worked for Dell Computer Corporation where he was the head of Dell Online and general manager of aftermarket business. Prior to Dell, Vogt had his first stint at Sony Electronics Inc. where he founded and built Sony's direct and Internet business. Vogt earned a master's of business administration degree in marketing from Iona College and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Oneonta. Vogt is married with four children.

"I am very familiar with the company's products, technology, and business units from my board position," said Mr Vogt. "Working with Bill Mitchell and the rest of the senior management team, I expect this to be an extraordinarily smooth transition and am confident we'll stay on track towards the financial performance management has previously outlined for the rest of the year."

Mr. Vogt's new contract runs through the end of 2009. In connection therewith, on August 25th, Viewpoint will grant a total of 1,500,000 options to purchase its common stock to Mr. Vogt at an exercise price equal to the opening price of Viewpoint's stock on the date of grant. This grant was approved by Viewpoint's Board of Directors and met the "employee inducement" exception to NASDAQ's rules adopted in 2003 requiring shareholder approval of equity-based incentive plans. The options have been classified as non-qualified stock options, have an exercise price equal to the fair market value on the grant date, have a seven-year term, and vest over four years, subject to continued employment and other conditions.

Conference Call

To discuss the management transition, Viewpoint has scheduled a conference call and live Web cast to be held tomorrow, August 25th at 10:00 AM ET. Patrick Vogt and Jay Amato will participate.

The conference call will be available via the Internet in the Investor Relations section of Viewpoint's Web site at http://www.viewpoint.com, as well as through CCBN at www.companyboardroom.com.

VWPT consolidating nicely in a continuation flag,  lower shadows on the candles within the flag and volume contraction signify a set up for the next upward move.

Still in the continuation flag following todays pullback which was on low volume, on a market down day. Now sitting just at the 9ema, so, poised to move one way or the other can't be sure at this stage.

No posts on Viewpoint for over a month, but I've had it on my radar, and just noticed that it is approaching the break of a symmetric triangle, and will break one way or another within the next few days ;D

Now I really have no idea which side it will break to, all indicators are neutral, as far as I can tell -
RSI = 50, MACD and 9ema converged, just above 0 MACD.
But it's gotta go one way or another, and my guess is to the upside - the stock has been much more positive since the new CEO came in andd it moved from all time lows last month.

I'll leave it with the chart, but any and all comments appreciated - anyone still holding  ???

Okay, Scotsman, since you were so nice to me yesterday, giving me bandaids for my ouchies on HGSI, I took a look at VWPT.

Here's my two cents worth, which is all it's worth.   ;D

OVERVIEW:

1. Completed an 8-month top in May, 2005.

2. Built a small base from May-July, 2005, with highs at 1.84.

NOTE: A pattern of only 2+ months isn't likely to do much, going up against an 8-month top.

3. False breakout above 1.84 on July 19, 2005.  The 2+ month pattern was so weak that the high of the false breakout was only 1.96, nowhere near the 2.10-2.14 resistance.

4. From that 1.96 high, it tanked almost 50% to 1.00 on August 19, 2005.

Next post, we'll look at the action since then.

just noticed that it is approaching the break of a symmetric triangle, and will break one way or another within the next few days ;D

When a stock is approaching the apex of a Symmetrical Triangle (that's where the two lines meet), I don't view a break in either direction as particularly meaningful unless there's volume.  You also have to look at what else is going on, of course.

In other words, as the stock "coils" in the the narrow space where the trendlines meet (apex), "it's gotta do something," so I view it more as the stock "fell over" the apex in one direction or the other, but absent volume and taking out a recent price high or price low, etc., it's pretty meaningless.

That's pretty much what VWPT did on September 30.  As it coiled into the apex, it finally broke out above the down trendline off the July 19 "false breakout" high, but there wasn't much volume.  Only 270,000 shares.

I would view that as pretty meaningless, except in this case, that trendline has 5 hits.  6 hits, if you count September 28, the high of which was within a penny of the trendline.

Something else that doesn't seem meaningless is the fact that the market has taken a pretty good whacking the last couple of days, but VWPT has found support at the top of that down trendline off the July 19 high, and the selloff has been on light volume.  Yesterday was only 73,000 shares.

Hmm-mmm....

The September 27 and October 3 highs are 1.45, so VWPT could get moving higher on a print of 1.46.  Especially if volume kicks in.

The up trendline only has two data points, so it hasn't been validated, but it's probably a good idea to use it as support, or use the September 29 low, prior to the "break out" (using that term loosely, since there wasn't much volume).

The up trendline comes in today, October 6, at 1.326.
The September 29 low was 1.31.
The 50DMA is 1.329.

VWPT closed yesterday at 1.38, so it's a reaonble risk if you use a close below 1.31 as stop.  Risk: a loss of about 6%.

On a print of 1.46, it's got a decent chance for a run at 1.84 (the highs before the false breakout) and possibly the 2.10-2.14 resistance.

If 1.84 makes, Gain: 33.3%
If 2.10 makes, Gain: 52.2%

Thanks very much for your analysis Melf Elf :D

I just had a quick look at this one last night, so that really puts it in the big picture, which is actually quite bearish.  It also made me realise I have to be a bit more careful with my analysis as your descending trendline was different to mine, and much more valid, but I'm still learning  ;D

The one thing I'm trying to figure out is when to use a linear chart and when to use a log chart ???
From what I've gathered from other people here, its pretty much a "whatever works best" approach, but David almost always uses linear charts, and I was wondering if there may be times when one is more valid than another.  I know the log chart gives a better view of relative prices, especially when that price is trading at the lower end, but any advice on this would definitely be useful.

As for VWPT, I will follow your advice, I'm not too keen on it, but the recent fundamental story does indicate a turnaround in the company may be in process.  We'll see.

Anyway, thanks again, and good trading for today ;D

Yeah, Scotsman, I think its a "whatever works best" approach.  I like to see a trendline get validated with a third data point, otherwise we're just connecting any two data points and putting our own interpretation on it, infering that the trendline is meaningful.  We don't really know that it's meaningful until the market tells us that, by successfully testing it.

If there's a validated trendline on the linear chart, but not the log chart, I'll lean toward the linear chart.  Nothing is infallible, though, of course.  The more hits to a trendline, the more meaningful it "tends" to be.  Again, no guarantees.

Quotebut David almost always uses linear charts, and I was wondering if there may be times when one is more valid than another.

David has used linear charts in the past, I know.  I remember that we had a discussion about which one to use with respect to DNDN, and I think he agreed with "use what works."  I'm almost sure that Frederick agrees with that, but you'd have to ask them.  I find that it doesn't pay to be real rigid about anything.

The important thing is not to deceive ourselves, and not to make excuses to suit our own purposes.  If a validated trendline on a log chart gets violated, let's be careful about saying, "Oh, well then I'll use the linear chart, and hang onto this loser of stock!"   :D

If you switch back and forth, try to be as objective as possible, and try to find a reason supported by the chart to choose one over the other.

QuoteAs for VWPT, I will follow your advice, I'm not too keen on it, but the recent fundamental story does indicate a turnaround in the company may be in process.  We'll see.

So far this morning, it's come back below that trendline, which isn't so hot.  It printed a low of 1.32, the support area.  Interesting, huh?  If it hammers off that, and closes back above the trendline, it might do alright.   Printing 1.46 would look alot better.

Hope that I didn't talk you out of a play that you wanted to make.  There's always risk, and the risk in this one isn't bad.  VWPT currentily is BID 1.33...ASK 1.35, so the risk is lowered to about 3.7% on a stop out below 1.31 if you pay the 1.35.  Not bad.

Best of luck with whatever you decide, Scotsman!

Scotsman,

In the "Whatever happened to....?" Department...

The 1.45 high of the Symmetrical Triangle breakout day turned out the be the high so far.  1.45 was next resistance, and it couldn't take that out.

Instead, VWPT went back below the bottom of the Symmetrical triangle, then took out 1.31-1.32 support.   VWPT closed at 1.28.

Looks like you made a good decision, passing on this one.  It's tough to play stocks that are in a downtrend from the long side.  I need to keep reminding myself of that, because I've tried it a few times lately, and I've gotten stopped out for a loss.

I like to find a stock that the MACD has been in a positive convergence for sometime and really like it if the price of a stock is going down but MACD is in a positive convergence and wait for centerline to be hit and when it hit's the centerline or crossover that is usually when the run begins.

Hi  digdug42
I'm still undecided about what I'm going to do. The way it is going up I might do a trailing stop loss the night before earnings is to be released. I'll be watching the charts to make my decision.
I'm posting a weekly ,,muti-year chart to show what I'm looking for before earnings.
I like looking for muti-year breakouts , When a muti-year and a weekly chart both confirm a breakout is about to happen sometimes these can be you're best returns and can continue a run that can last for a while.
As alway's each investor must decide when to buy and sell and make a trading plan.I will keep this updated from here on till my decision on what I'm going to do .
Goodluck to all holding :)l
I'll be posting another chart to show when a breakout is happening.

Guess I forgot to put chart in. Anyway, here's one to confirm a breakout and I look for this to beat the 52 week high after earnings, to many investors are jumping in . Look at volume for the day.

 Hi digdug42
VWPT is heading for a major breakout and see this happening after earnings. To many investors still jumping on board and I see no let up so far,, usually it would have had some profit takers and would have went into consolidation by now but it hasn't. Every day is a new high and volume increases more  each day and with less than a week till earnings this stock will be making a major breakout.
What I'm going to do is the night before earnings is to be released I'm putting a trailing stop loss in 5 point's below previous day's low and hope for the breakout and if it happens then I'll tighten my stop loss as it climbs.
That's my plan and hope it works in my favor but it has already gave me a great return and no matter what it does it has still been a great one.
We're going to make some good return on this,, hold onto you're seat and watch it run.
Whatever you decide to do , be sure to play it where you can lock in you're maximum gain.
Goodluck trading :)

Keeps making new highs and with earnings coming out on the 4th this has got to show that earnings is expected to be good or there would have been some profit takers by now.
This may be one one my best trades yet. Usually I would have sold by now to take profit but I'm trying to controll my selling to early so I can get maximum gain from a run on a stock. I have alway's had a problem of selling to early and lossing out on a good run so now I'm working on that to make my trades more profitable.
.

Had a little bit of after hours trading @1.89. Earnings will be Thursday. All those who has a position in this should try to have a trading plan in place and be ready to trade it. As all knows it has had a great run so far but even if earnings is good that doesn't mean it will continue to go up at some point in time it will come back down. I bought this @1.19 so I'm willing to hold for a small loss to see if it will continue till earnings and play the trailing stop loss that I said in a previous post that I was going to do as my trading plan.
Whatever you choose to do you might want to start a plan now to protect you're gains. Most of the time a stock will pull back before earnings release because a lot of investor's  don't like to take the risk that's involved in it and will begin to sell for their profit,,look for this to happen before thursday and sometimes it's the day before earnings before the sell off happens.
If you decide to sell to lock in you're profit you can alway's hope back in after earnings if it continues to go up and ride it some more.

Remember to make you're trading plan now and trade the plan
Goodluck to all holding :)

Cann't believe this stock is still going up. Thought some profit takers would have jumped on by now. Will be interesting to see how day ends. Maybe we'll break 2.00 today.
Have you got you're trading plan and ready to go thru with it.
Hope you goodluck with it :)

I am planning my trading plan ;). Just trying to iron it out now. Trying to decide where to set my stop. I expected some profit taking today and it looks like it is coming in now some but it is still holding fairly strong.  I will prob set a stop at yesterdays low or just above that.

Looks like profit takers is comming in now.
Might be a good time to look at you're plan to cut loosses in case it doesn't work out good after earnings. You can always hop back on if it's good.
I'm staying with my trading plan

Goodluck digdug42 with you're trading plan :)

Forgot to mention also that this plan will go into effect after one hour of trading to see if price might go back up after profit takers are done

I was watching it still too. It hit the stop that I had in my mind, but I wanted to wait to see if it would pick back up.  That is a ton of volume that has come in the last few days and I think it can still go too because of that. I want the profit taking to settle down some and then I think my plan is pretty similar to yours. Good luck and thanks for the updates and charts!

You are right, hard to complain when you make a great gain.  Can't get too greedy or there go your profits.  Good trading wrangler and thanks again for the advice. I am fairly new to trading and all of these posts really help someone like me to learn.  I would applaud, but lack the necessary posts to do so. My stop is a little lower so I am still holding, but could be out by the days end. Lets hope not.  Thanks again!

Title: Re: Check out VWPT
Post by: wrangler on May 03, 2006, 04:34:42 AM
Will find out more tomorrow since Thursday is earnings report. All in all it really wasn't a bad day for sell off compared to the buyers for the last 8 days. You still have the golden crossover along with MACD still showing an upward trend. I would say the only thing you have to worry about would be the earnings and if it should continue up after that ,,you would be heading for one big ride. You played well today I would continue the same as you did today.
Right now I'm watching another one I'm playing and expect the same from it as VWPT did or better it's FCSE.
Keep you're stop loss in place and be ready to trade you're plan. Any good book you read will alway's tell you to plan you're trade and trade you're plan but alway's try to get maximum gain to. When you gain this much on any stock you will alway's want to use a stop loss to protect you're gain if it get's taken out you can alway's jump back on to ride it some more but if you lose that gain it may take a while to gain it back .
Goodluck trading  :)

Title: Re: Check out VWPT
Post by: wrangler on May 03, 2006, 10:42:18 AM
One problem I've had with stop loss or trailing stop loss is if you use a stop or trailing stop loss to close M&M's will bring the price down to take out you're order even though stock is heading up. I'm still trying to get a better understanding of the two so I can use them to my advantage. I've used them before just to be taken out before the run was over so now I do it mentally. I try to watch for a pause in the price when it's heading up along with the volume from previous day's and both begin to slow with a pull back of the price that's when I get ready to sell . One thing to remember is after a sell, if the run should continue you can alway's hope back on the train but if you continue to hold you can loss what profit you have made then you must decide to hold to get you're gain back or get you're loss back and maybe loose more. Never be afraid to take profits
One thing I've learned is each investor must have his own set of rule's to trade by when to buy and when to pull the trigger. Mine is still gun shy and usually take profits to early as the run is happening. This is one of my goals for the year is how to get maximum gain from a trade using the MACD buy and sell signals, they are lagging indicators but it does give you a hint when the stock is about to go in a downtrend.

I got stopped out and it seems like this was the prob with the MM's.  I have heard that they can see one of the two but couldn't remember which was which. Still I am happy, made a good chunk of change.  I am watching FCSE now, thanks!

Setravis, I agree with you on running a search before starting a new thread.

Continuing a thread will give valuable posts/info/comments about that stock.

I am in today at 0.46.

Why?  It's a speculative gamble, but here are my reasons (BTW I am long on this):

1.  VWPT is rebounding off 52 week low of $0.30 with high of $1.85 - many may buy hoping to get onboard on rebound (like me  ;))
2.  After closing at $0.51, afterhours trading pushed the price up to $0.59
3.  Average volume has increased this past week (today 540K+ compared to 3 mos average of 234K)
4.  VWPT is a Nasdaq listed stock, so company has an incentive to not get delisted and get share price back up to $1 (perhaps?).  So far, there is no word of reverse splitting.
5.  Infusion of $4.3 million with DG FastChannel will buy more time for VWPT http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=vwpt
6.  Earnings CC for First Quarter 07 is Wednesday, May 9 - If positive, should drive the share price upward.

Time will tell.

setravis, VWPT is well on its way to hitting that double mark.

VWPT has been falling since May 2006 with a high close of 1.90.  It must've been hard on many VWPT holders.

This morning's conference call wasn't too bad with many promising ventures roadmapped for this company.

I was anticipating some pullback (especially with recent gains), but stock held up to close in the green.

What is interesting is that VWPT gained after hours ($0.78 Up 0.09 - 13.04%) - Did these buyers anticipate that VWPT would continue to gain?

As I posted before, I am long on VWPT on speculative gamble... Time will tell  ;)

P.S.

Any thoughts on deal with NBC/Universal and Viewpoint's subsidiary?

setravis,

Another nice gain day for VWPT, steady gain all day and closed almost at high of day!
(And this is with absolutely no news or PR)  ;)

More than triple the average volume today.  I am thinking many may have waited on the sidelines for a pullback following recent "jumping" gains, but now feeling comfortable that pullback is over.

If this is the case, then we continue up for breakthrough the next resistance, which is at $0.91.

I had some time on my hands and did some pondering...   ;D

VWPT hit last high close of $3.99 in April 2004 with maximum high close of $30.87 in March of 2000.

VWPT hit last bottom of $0.30 in March of 2003 and rebounded to $3.99 in April of 2004.

VWPT recently bottomed in April 2007 at $0.33 and has been actively rebounding.

If April's bottom was another rebounding point, with new management leadership and promising pipelines/deals for this year to come, long position for VWPT may not be too bad of an idea.

Investors Eye a Possible ValueClick Sale
Friday May 18, 4:52 pm ET
By Rachel Metz, AP Business Writer
Investors, Analysts Wonder What Will Happen to ValueClick in Wake of AQuantive Buyout

NEW YORK (AP) -- Now that Microsoft Corp. plans to buy online advertising company aQuantive Inc. for $6 billion, investors and analysts are wondering if competitor ValueClick Inc. is a prime target for a takeover of its own.

ValueClick, which some analysts see as the number-four player in the online advertising space, is the last man standing now that aQuantive and other sector majors have all been acquired in a matter of weeks.

On Thursday, advertising giant WPP Group PLC said it would purchase online advertising company 24/7 Real Media for $649 million, and in April Google Inc. said it would buy private online advertising firm DoubleClick Inc. for $3.1 billion. Yahoo said it agreed to purchase private online advertising exchange Right Media Inc. for $680 million the same month.

Some analysts think ValueClick is still on its own because buyers are most interested in gaining ad serving technology, which only makes up a small portion of the company's sales. The technology helps companies place and manage their online advertising.

Still, analysts also think potential ValueClick buyers exist.

"Last one standing at the dance sounds like a negative," Global Crown Capital analyst Martin Pyykkonen said, but the flip side is that there's still a few potential buyers for the company.

With a competitive marketplace for the companies that have sold so far, ValueClick "should be attractive to somebody," Pyykkonen said.

Pyykkonen estimated the company could fetch as much as $4 billion, based on a premium over his current $33 price target for the company and the purchase prices of its peers. Microsoft's bid put an 85 percent premium on aQuantive, while WPP's offer set a 30 percent premium on 24/7. DoubleClick was privately held at the time of the Google offer.

But with so many major companies already acquiring its peers, the question is who might be left to buy ValueClick.

Eric Martinuzzi, an analyst with Craig-Hallum Capital, said that based on the recent purchases it would make "absolute sense" if a major marketing and advertising company like Omnicom Group Inc. or Interpublic Group of Companies Inc. bought ValueClick.

He also agreed News Corp. and Advertising.com owner Time Warner Inc. could be potential ValueClick suitors.

And despite its recently-announced Right Media purchase, Yahoo might also benefit from "a more strategic relationship" with ValueClick, Martinuzzi said.

Of course, not everybody thinks ValueClick is at the top of the buyout list. Merriman Curhan Ford analyst Richard Fetyko pointed instead to Web marketing technology company Viewpoint Corp., saying its assets and technology make it a logical company to be purchased.

And ValueClick still has some problems, which analysts acknowledged. On Friday, the company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that it is under investigation by the Federal Trade Commission concerning its lead-generating practices.

Piper Jaffray analyst Aaron Kessler said it's still hard to say how the investigation will impact ValueClick. Kessler thinks the company currently complies with lead-generating rules, and the question now is whether or not the FTC wants to clamp down on what types of practices are allowed.

Kessler and Pyykkonen don't think the investigation will staunch its chances of being acquired, but it could hurt the company.

"It could be an overhang on the stock, until there's more clarity," Kessler said.

Despite the investigation news, investors cheered ValueClick's stock Friday, sending it up $2.12, or 7.6 percent, to $30. Viewpoint shares rose 14 cents, or 17 percent, to 96 cents.

Yes, another nice day of gain  ;)

Closed almost at the intraday high of $0.96 and hit $1.00 in after hours trading!!!
  ;D

I believe breakthrough of $1 is inevitable on Monday (probably at open or gap up).

Once the breakthrough of $1 happens, many waiting on the sidelines will probably jump in, pushing the share price even higher.

How much higher?  Not sure, but I am looking at the last rebound points of $1.64 and $3.99 as resistance points.

Nice positive write up on VWPT in light of being a potential takeover target - Repost from Yahoo MB thanks to pierrotvz:

http://www.antandsons.com/2007/05/viewpoint-potential-takeover-target.html

"... Wire reports from the Associated Press earlier today cited Merriman Curhan Ford analyst Richard Fetyko who pointed to Viewpoint Corp. (NASDAQ:VWPT), a web technology firm that helps clients manage and deliver traditional and interactive advertising, as a potential takeover target because of its assets and technology. Despite Viewpoint shares already being up 13.41% on heavy volume of 1.4 million shares, the stock could see additional upside if the speculation gains traction...

... Viewpoint is a small cap turnaround story revolving around the company's strategic equity partnership with DG FastChannel, recent acquisition of MAKOS and Viewpoint's Unicast division expansion into new markets that has significantly brightened a once dreary outlook."

There was a question of buy/sell targets for VWPT.

This is currently what I look for:  (remember, speculative gamble?  ;))

1.  Buy with confirming rebound off 52 week low (RSI and 10MA rebounds)
2.  10MA crosses 50MA with increasing volume
3.  MACD transitions from negative to positive
4.  Hold while 10MA remains above 50MA
5.  Price should gain as long as MACD remains in the positive territory
6.  Sell when 10MA peaks and falls
7.  Exit before 10MA crosses below 50MA

Anticipate some pullback as RSI hit 92 yesterday - perhaps $1 may be tested as the new base?

Will continue to hold while 10MA stays above 50MA with MACD positive.  52 week range is $0.30 - $1.85.

Update:  I drew a comparison chart from 2003 to 2004 when VWPT rebounded off $0.30 last time.   I was initially planning to sell with the first peak of 10MA with corresponding drop of MACD, but if history repeats itself, I may choose to ride out the pullbacks until 10MA drops to cross 50MA.

With my buy at $0.46, I already have 122% gain at $1.13.  I will continue to monitor and decide what to do next.  ;)

Next resistance point at $1.38.

Steady gains intraday and closed towards day's high with 5.31% gain.  Today's volume was not much more than 3 month average at 800K, but still not too bad of a daily volume when you consider that VWPT's 3 month average volume was around 200-300K just last week.

Technically, I anticipated a pullback with RSI of 92 on Monday, but with today's steady gains intraday, Tuesday's pullback maybe over and I look forward to continued gains Wednesday.  MACD remains in the positive territory and rising.

Next resistance is at $1.27.

Well, we don't have to anticipate that pullback anymore, it happened today.  The $1 bottom was certainly tested today and held to close at $1.02.

If the $1 bottom holds and rebounds, this would be a good entry point.

Like I said, time will tell.  Will be holding as long as 10MA stays above 50MA.

"Hi everyone,

I am just a technical trader.  I never traded VWPT before, but I do watch for stocks rebounding off 52 week lows, and VWPT hit my radar earlier in May.

Technically, VWPT is rebounding off another 52 weeks low of $0.30 like back in 2003 when it went from $0.30 to $3.99 (kinda like ONT - BTW, ONT rebounded off $0.10 for the record, and recently rebounded again from $0.50).

http://finance.yahoo.com/charts#chart3:symbol=ont;range=my;indicator=split+sma(10,50);charttype=candlestick;crosshair=on;logscale=on;source=undefined

I bought in with confirming 10 day Moving Day Average rebound with RSI double bottom and MACD conversion from negative to positive.  10 day Moving Day Average crossed above 50 day Moving Day Average with MACD staying in the positive.

I believe Thursday's pullback was much anticipated and projected $1 bottom did hold.  If new base is forming around $1, VWPT rebounding off $1 would present a good entry point for another rebounding run, back to potentially to previous highs ($1.64 and $3.99).

Company's forecast from last conference call was optimistic with good pipelines and deals in the works with recent infusion of $4.3 million from DG FastChannel (DGIT).

I would recommend a STRONG BUY with a long hold until 10 MA drops back down to 50 MA.

IMHO.  ;)"

Nice gain today (4.9%) and closed even higher afterhours (additional 1.87%) at $1.09!  ;)

Steady gains intraday with no sigificant signs of weakness.  We may have a new base here and pullback maybe over.  If VWPT rebounds from here, this would be a good entry point for another run up to test the previous highs of $1.64 and maybe up to $3.99 longer term?  Heck, this is a speculative gamble and I can certainly hope, right?   :D

As I stated on previous posts, my position is long and I will continue to hold as long as 10 MA stays above 50 MA.  Longer term, I am looking at the rebound pattern of 2003 when VWPT rebounded from $0.30 to $3.99, and possibly higher this time.  As always, time will tell.  ;)

"Thanks,

If you follow my 3SOF MB posts, I bought in at $0.46.  With such spiking gains in three short jumps from $0.33 to $1.20 in 3 weeks, I anticipated pullback and profit taking (For many like you, how can you pass up 100-200% gains?!).

What I wasn't sure about was how long these pullbacks would last - first two pullbacks on rebound from $0.33 lasted only about 2-3 days before resuming gains.  And as such, today's steady gain with no significant weakness may indicate that this week's pullback may have ended to resume gains next week (Monday and Tuesday volume alone was over 9 million shares combined! - a lot of profit taking!).

With much of profit takers flushed out, many traders may look to buy on rebound for another run (even for those that took profit).

As I posted, I am long on VWPT and will continue to hold (and probably buy more) as long as 10 MA stays above 50 MA."

"I am a technical trader and there are several technical indicators I use for my trades (52 week high/low, price, volume, 10/50 MA, RSI, MACD and some candlestick).

Mind you, there are many more technical indicators, but these are the ones I use regularly.  If you want more technical assessments, you can use stockta or barchart:

http://www.stockta.com/cgi-bin/analysis.pl?symb=VWPT&num1=1&cobrand=&mode=stock

http://quotes.barchart.com/texpert.asp?sym=vwpt

As to your question, how fast or slow (lagging) the technical indicators are depends on the time period/criteria you use.

I find that 50/200 MA is way too slow for me and the trades I make.  That's why I use 10/50 MA.

When a stock is rebounding (especially off 52 week low), I look for 10 MA rebound to buy (but this must be confirmed with RSI and MACD!).  10 MA crossing above 50 MA indicates uptrend and you can either continue to accumulate/buy or hold as 10 MA peaks to sell/take profit.  If the stock continue to uptrend after this pullback/profit taking, 10 MA will dip slightly and continue to climb above the 50 MA.

As VWPT (and many other stocks) has expressed in the past, as the stock rebounds, it will go through periods of gain followed by pullbacks/price corrections we call "profit taking" where traders/investors who bought at much lower prices will sell to lock in their gains.  Once this selling is done, you are left mostly with traders/investors who bought at higher prices that are unwilling to sell at BID price and will continue to ASK for higher prices - This is what continues to drive up the price of a stock as long as there is BUYING PRESSURE expressed by volume (I also look for weekly/monthly volume trends).

You will note that many short-term chart trends (price) will follow the RSI(14) and MACD (positve/negative) trends, and I use these indicators for SWING TRADING (trades done within several days).  I also use RSI(2) for even shorter SWING TRADING/DAY TRADING and/or CHANNEL TRADING (where short-term price follows a distinctive "saw tooth" pattern up or down). (I posted sample charts with annotations for you to see at 3SOF Public Forum VWPT MB:)

http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=1112.90

Of course, the magic question for every stock trader/investor is "When do you sell?"

I use 10 MA peaks as selling points as confirmed by RSI/MACD peaks.  However, when there is a large gain potential for a stock (especially rebounding off 52 week lows), I will choose to ride out the short-term pullbacks/profit taking and look for channeling of uptrend and wait for 10 MA to drop back towards 50 MA - When this happens, you definately want to sell and be completely out before 10 MA drops below 50 MA.

http://finance.yahoo.com/charts#chart7:symbol=vwpt;range=20030127,20040607;indicator=split+sma(10,50);charttype=candlestick;crosshair=on;logscale=on;source=undefined

Use of technical analysis/indicators is crucial to my trading as I have lost money chasing stocks up or bought stocks at the top only to see prices fall.  That's why I use the technical indicators I currently use and look for rebounding stocks (especially off 52 week low) to minimizing buying at the top.  However, you must be careful that you do not "catch the falling knife" by buying a down trend stock - always look for confirming rebound indicators (RSI double bottom/cup-and-handle/the "W" pattern, etc.) before you buy.

http://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/cupandhandle.asp

I will also post examples of these at the 3SOF MB for you to see.

I hope I answered your question."

Tested $1 again today and it held to close back up to the intraday high of $1.10 (only 1 cent loss today) with a gradual increase in volume (we were only at 200-300K just over 2 weeks ago).

I think this morning's release of Quarterly Financial Report may had something to do with it.

What people may not realize is that, VWPT's Quarterly numbers of May 31, 2007 are actually better than that of September 30, 2006.

http://finance.yahoo.com/q/is?s=vwpt

5 day chart still showing support.

The Viewpoint's latest "3D Video Cube" is finalized!   :D

This is going to revolutionalize the future of online 3D advertising - and Viewpoint developed it!  ;D

1.  When consumers interact with the 3D Video Cube ad, advertisers now have 600% increase in content to communicate the details of their products and services.

2.  The "stick factor" where consumers are spending more time using the popup menu.

2.  The Video Cube will allow consumer a full multi-media experience (including FULL SCREEN viewing of videos) with sight and sound.

This is great!  = APPLAUSE - STANDING OVATION FOR VIEWPOINT! =

Check it out at the link (It's a great "eye grabber" that advertisers will WANT to use for their products and services for sure!):

The VWPT chart is showing that the current pattern is ending.

I think that it is also interesting to note that DG FastChannel's bullish pattern is also ending. It might breakout today. If it does, this might be good for VWPT.

Break out on high volume!  Tomorrow should be interesting.  You have to love a 13.21% gain when the DOW drops -198.94 (-1.48%).

I will keep holding and see where this company is headed.  Continue to keep sentiment comments.

With spiking, jumping gains as we approach the previous high of $1.64, you may want to lock in gains by profit taking as RSI 2 peaks.  And of course, buy back as RSI 2 bottoms and rebounds.  ;)

With volatility of stock price comes the opportunity for channel or swing trading.

the chart looks less strong the longer I look at it to be honest.. ;)

The image maybe is a bit confusing, but I think there are a few signs we need to look out for to see if the breakout of yesterday gets confirmed;

Uptrends tend to proceed at the same angle after a continuation pattern.
This means that it should get supported by 1.12 today

The 9MA supported the previous breakouts and also comes in at around 1.12 today.  For me the 1.12 is an important figure for today...

what do ya think?

I was anticipating a gradual breakout, but with VWPT satisfying nasdaq listing requirement news, it shot up yesterday.

With RSI 2 jumping up, you could understand many wanting to lock in profits.

VWPT closed at $1.20 holding the gains from yesterday.

We'll see what happens next week.

Large marketwide drop today (-129 for DOW).

10 MA still climbing with MACD just slightly in the negative territory.

RSI 2 approaching BUY region and I believe the $1 support will definately hold.

May anticipate further slight drop before resuming rebound (good  reentry point).

10 MA still above 50 MA and slightly climbing.

RSI 2 rebounded off 35 but MACD still negative.  Continued rebound in PPS will bottom MACD and it should convert back up to positive.

I took a closer look at the chart today and feel that Friday's range falling below recent support line (pink) along with continued falling of RSI 14 and MACD may indicate further drop of VWPT and recommend a SELL until we see further confirmed activities of gain.
Title: Re: Check out VWPT
Post by: LiveLife on June 17, 2007, 04:24:13 PM
But what we need to realize is a bigger picture of VWPT approaching the "Golden Cross" where 50 MA crosses over 200 MA.

For many traders, this event signifies a long-term trend reversal that preceeds gain in stock price longer-term.

This reason alone may attract buying pressure as traders wanting in before the "Golden Cross" occurs.  VWPT has demonstrated in past three jumping gains, future gain may also be jumping gains, possibly jumping over the next resistance of $1.19.   If you look at the after hours trading, price increased steadily back from $1.10 to $1.15.  ;)

http://quotes.barchart.com/texpert.asp?sym=vwpt

One thing I believe is that the new $1.00 basis bottom is quite certain on everyone's mind.

Depending on Monday's price activity, I may be buying more on anticipation for the golden crossover.

As always, time will tell.  :D

Yes it is a short time sell.

According to last conference call, the company will post a positive operating income in Q2.

Q2's results are due at the beginning of August if they do it like last year. It should gap up on that day if the stock hasn't gone up before (anticipating the good results).

Flag, Pennant (Continuation) Pattern
Flags and Pennants are short-term continuation patterns that mark a small consolidation before the previous move resumes. These patterns are usually preceded by a sharp advance or decline with heavy volume, and mark a mid-point of the move.

Flag: A flag is a small rectangle pattern that slopes against the previous trend. If the previous move was up, then the flag would slope down. If the move was down, then the flag would slope up. Because flags are usually too short in duration to actually have reaction highs and lows, the price action just needs to be contained within two parallel trend lines.

Even though flags and pennants are common formations, identification guidelines should not be taken lightly. It is important that flags and pennants are preceded by a sharp advance or decline. Without a sharp move, the reliability of the formation becomes questionable and trading could carry added risk. Look for volume confirmation on the initial move, consolidation and resumption to augment the robustness of pattern identification.

Bought VWPT back at $0.99 after taking profit in June 2007 as 10 MA peaked and began to fall.

VWPT Nasdaq stock symbol is due to change to ENLV effective January 1, 2008 to reflect change in company name to Enliven Marketing Technologies Corporation.  There has been increasing daily trading volume with growing buying pressure.

Recent spiking gains may be reflective of positive outlook for this company as ONT is rebounding as well.

Gained 4% today.  10 and 50 MA both turned positive with MACD gaining in positive territory.
Now looking for bullish trend channel to do swing trading.  With RSI 14 at 80, looking to take 30%+ profit taking short-term unless there is further bullish buying pressure.

Setravis, could you change the Subject heading to VWPT/ENLV?  Thanks.  ;)
