analysts should be raising their price target soon
I would appreciate feedback for todays market action from you
Hi Oliver,
I put this one on my watchlist since you mentioned it first.
Since then there have been several positive development:
- Xing has just signed a deal with Thomson to supply mobile phones and wireless phones. The initial purchase for the year 2005 will be no less than US$17 million
- They expect to increase their interest in CECT from 52% to 74%.
- During the first half of 2005, CECT has continuously gained market share while it has moved up a further three places on the league chart to No. 6 in terms of market share.
CECT produce what I consider to be the best combined PDA and Mobile phone in the world (rated no. 1 Jbenchmark!):
You can see all their phones here:
CECT is among the top 3 local brands in China and is gaining marketshare inside and outside China
The Chairman and CEO has recently said that:
QuoteAll in all, we expect sales revenue to increase 20% from US$244.0 million for 2004 to about US$280-300 million for 2005 and gross profit to increase by 40.0% from US$27.0 million for 2004 to US$36-38 million for 2005. Our target gross profit margin for the year 2005 is around 14% versus 11.1% for the year 2004
The positive news flow has however still not moved the share price:
It does however seems like the stock is ready for a reversal: We made a nice hammer on Thursday and the stock made a white candle on Friday despite that the market in general was down.
J M Dutton has a target of 8.10 for the stock. Their initial research report is here:

Hi Michael,

Hi Oliver
Yes I bought a couple of days ago. It is however still very cheap!
The full Dutton report is here: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050810/lnw004.html?.v=15
UPS that was the wrong link to the Dutton report. Here is the right link: http://www.jmdutton.com/research/xing/reports/xing_report_051805.pdf
Based on the company's forcast for the rest of the year EPS should come in at around 1.15. The forward PE is around 5.40 which is very cheap for a company growing as fast as XING.
More good news around XING!
QuoteAug. 10 (Bloomberg) -- China Mobile (Hong Kong) Ltd., the world's largest mobile-phone company by users, reported a 36 percent jump in second-quarter profit as discounts attracted subscribers in rural areas. The shares had their biggest gain in almost three years.
China Mobile added 19.5 million users in the first half, or a rise of 69.4 percent from a year ago, the biggest gain in the past five years. Some 73 percent were prepaid customers and the rest contract users. The company had 223.8 million users as of June 30, more than two-thirds of the nation's cell-phone market.

XING has a strategic partnership relationships with China Telecom so no wonder that XING's sales are soaring!
After that huge early morning exuberance and volume which shot XING to $6.30 ish it has pulled back to what I consider a great entry point. I'm looking to buy at $5.70 area if I can, support is close by, fundamentals are good and there is a lovely 1 day red candle to get filled. My intraday chart has XING sitting on 200ema support (5 min view, I use this to guide entry points)
updated chart, still not sure @ what time I should buy...
Another great deal for XING:
Qiao Xing Universal Telephone, Inc.'s Subsidiary CEC Telecom Co. Ltd Partners with Telecommunications Operator and Technology Supplier to Penetrate China's Satellite Navigation Terminal Products Market
Monday August 15, 9:45 am ET
The satellite navigation market in China for 2005 is a US$1.23 billion one. CECT will manufacture at least US$120 million's worth of GPS/GSM mobile phones for the GPS (Global Position System) Service Operator on an annual basis.
http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050815/cnm008.html?.v=6
The stock continues the reversal and XING has now officially broken out of the down-trend which started after the release of the 2004 figures. We are now fighting the resistance around 6.0.
The strong fundamentals of the stock will sooner or later break the resistance.
Totally agree. The stock is still fighting for $6.00 resistnce.
Whenever it tries to break it, strong selling is followed.
The low of $5.40 holds. So I can say, it is still base building and traded in narrow range of $5.40-$6.00. But it formed small ascending triangle in recent trading sessions.
I have small position in this stock.
Yet another new order for XING:
QuoteQiao Xing Universal's Subsidiary Signs Agreements with Four Sub-Branches of China Telecom to Supply CDMA Wireless Cityphone Sets

XING has done phenomenal the last week an even though it still has some way to go I will have to sell it today.
XING is quite volatile so I hope I can get in again at a later stage.

XING: Short Interest UP 26.3% to 472.1K in Nov 2005
Friday , November 25, 2005 13:20 ET
According to new short interest data from NASDAQ, short interest for Qiao Xing Universal Telephone, Inc. (NasdaqNM: XING) INCREASED 26.3% to 472,124 shares for the month ended mid-November, 2005.
SYMBOL OCTOBER NOVEMBER CHANGE %CHANGE DAYS/COVER
-------- ------------- ------------- ------------- ------------ ----------
XING 373,895 472,124 +98,229 +26.27% 2
Based on XING's 20-day average daily share volume of 384,661, it would require approximately 2 day(s) of buying to cover this short interest.
I bought XING back today. For the first time I would actually like to hold it over the earnings.
XiING has a phenomenal growth and seems poised to be a major player in the Chinese handset marked.
Dilution as we saw today is to be expected but with the top and bottom line growth the reaction seems to be out of proportion. After all 2 million shares are quite insignificant and so is the discount to the market price.
Mike
Hey Michael,
I put XING on my watch list b/c of your recommendation. Can you elaborate on why you like XING so much?
Isn't the cell phone market in China crowded. Plus XING's profit margin, ROE, etc don't seem all that impressive.
XING seems to pale compared to other companies such as CNTF.
Thanks.
Logo
Hi Logocovet,
You are right that based on historical ratio's XING isn't the best pick out there but XING is a growth story.
Try to look at the operating profit over the last 4 years:
2002 - 6.3 million
2003 0.4 million
2004 8.2 million
2005 28.2 million
The 2005 figure is from the company's guidance on December 14 and I am pretty sure they will exceed this.
You are right that the Chinese cell phone market is crowded. Hardly surprising as it is the worlds largest and fastest growing (in unit terms) but both XING's brands has added marketshare and are well position to continue this trend in the coming years with the agreements with PALM and Microsoft.
In addition they seem to have success on the export markets with operator branded phones which are a fast growing market.
I think that XING will become a major player in the Telecom market over time.
Look at Huwai; they started producing Ericsson equipment and is now a major player internationally. Could this happen for XING?
I am not sure but I am willing to bet on it as the stock is very cheap based on the projected results for 2005
Mike
It is not that I want to be difficult. In fact it is really nice to see that the market suddenly discovers that even though some so-called strategic investors can buy the stock for $6.5 doesn't mean that the stock is not worth a lot more.
But why in h... do they need to start a rally on a day when the market is so depressed ???
Come on guys - relax there are another day tomorrow. This stock will run up to the earnings release and most likely jump after but to start a run today is really an uphill battle!
I picked some up at 7.42 this AM. Lets see what happens.
XING's major subsidiary CECT published their numbers on Friday.
So the reasons for the run on Thursday was that somebody knew about the PR issued on Friday. Not very ethical but welcome to the modern world of investing!
The stock ended slightly lower at the end of the day even though CECT's net profit were 21% higher than the company's forecast in November. CECT had a USD 29 million net profit. That is an 80% increase over 2004.
XING owns 72% of CECT so USD 29 million translates into USD 21 million for XING. XING has other subsidiaries which normally also contributes to the earnings but they also have interest cost etc. which have the opposite effect.
Dutton and Associates made the following forecast on revenue and EPS before the release of CECT's result:
With the release of CECT's numbers these estimates seems conservative but even with Dutton's EPS forecast XING is trading at a PE of 6.9 for 2005 and 4.8 for 2006. With earnings growth of 80% this really seems like a no brainer!
Dutton has a target of 10.5 (they raised in October). I could see it much higher but we will se when they release the final figures for 2005.
Mike
Some more great news. CECT has entered the top 10 of most popular handsets in China. They jumped in on the 9th spot ahead of Brands like LG, Siemens and Sony Ericsson!
http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fzdc.zol.com.cn%2F25%2F254797.html&langpair=zh-CN%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools
And XING's market cap? $115 million (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=3073)
Mike
Hmmmm. I am kind of talking to myself in this thread which is OK except that I can't applaud myself (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=3069)
Anyhow I am probably dead wrong with XING but I still love the stock. As per my previous mail CECT is gaining popularity in China and the Chinese market is growing very fast:
QuoteHONG KONG, Feb 20 (Reuters) - China's two dominant mobile carriers posted strong subscriber growth in January, banking on a traditional seasonal burst of activity around the Lunar New Year.
The larger of the pair, China Mobile (Hong Kong) Ltd. said on Monday it added a record 4.07 million users for the month, bringing its total subscriber base to 250.72 million.
Its main rival, China Unicom Ltd. on Sunday reported it added 1.3 million subscribers in January, its biggest monthly increase since May 2005. The number of Unicom users totalled 129.1 million at the end of January.
Now that is 5.37 million subscribers in ONE month. Most European operators don't have 5 million subscribers after 15 years operation! and this is only new subscribers the replacement market is growing even faster.
CECT had 81% increase in Income in 2005. 2006 seems even more promising.
As I said I am most likely dead wrong but i am willing to take a chance on XING. In fact I think I will add to my stake if I get a chance.
Mike
Hmmm we had one of these surprising gaps on XING today.
As with many Chinese stocks we now have to wait to see why. Most likely earnings has leaked but we will see.
Anyhow I am in XING for the long run. The growth of the mobile industry in China is amazing. Mobile phones is number one status symbol and you buy one when you can afford it. With the growth of GDP more an more people can afford a phone.
With CECT's increased popularity XING's revenue is growing even faster. So fast that the small friendly favors that Mr. Wu gives from time to time really can't justify the evaluation of XING.
Mike
So we have been upgraded:
QuoteFriday , March 03, 2006 00:42 ET
(financialwire.net via COMTEX) -- March 3, 2006 (FinancialWire) (Investrend Research Syndicate) ValuEngine, Inc. (http://www.valuengine.com) upgraded five companies, including Imperial Oil Ltd (AMEX: IMO), Ryder System Inc (NYSE: R), SPX Corporation (NYSE: SPW), and Qiao Xing Universal Telephone Inc (NASDAQ: XING), to a "5" rating, the service's highest.
The ValuEngine Rating is an overall assessment of a stock's attractiveness. It combines the following five factors: ValuEngine's proprietary valuation, risk-return tradeoff, momentum, market capitalization and ValuEngine's proprietary forecasted one-month return.
I like the ValueEngine's proprietary Valuation. I am wondering if that has anything to do with the CECT IPO ;)
I worked on the numbers yesterday but didn't save the spreadsheet so here is a short version:
XING owns 72% of CECT. An IPO will probably be priced at a forward PE of around 15 but lets be conservative and say 10.
CECT earned $29 million last year and That was a 100% increase in profit. Let's assume profit only increases with 20% this year (highly unlikely)
So with forward earnings of 34.8 million CECT's market Cap at a PE of 10 would be $348 million. XING share of this is 250 million (72%).
XING's market cap is 125 million. Not only is that half of CECT's expected value but this also include the rest of XINGS business.
XING is the second largest distributor of fixed phones and cordless phones in China. They have a low-end brand of mobile phones in addition to CECT. They make a number of other products.
Well the value of XING has always been therefore everybody to see but with the CECT IPO the valuation becomes ridicolous IMHO.
Mike
$8.25 first target. They are also distributing Palm's line in China. The cap seems minute for the prospects of the Co. Why do you think this hasn't really taken off. Is it because it is a China stock?
Hi Aero,
I think there is two reasons why XING is so cheap and they are unfortunately connected.
- Lack of trust in the management
- Weak financial reporting
The lack of trust in management has nothing to do with the performance of the company. There is a lot of respect about the results the company is generating. Both from investors and partners like Microsoft and Palm. It is rather the small favors Mr. Wu like to give to himself and his friends.
In January and February the company sold 3 million shares in two private placements for $6.5. They call it strategic investors but I would be surprised if it not somebody close to Mr. Wu.
Here is where I think the market is wrong. We are really talking about small favours compared to the dilution from the share issued and the price the investors paid. I rather see these private transactions as a sign that the stock price will increase. After all you don't give your friend a gift, which he afterwards lose money on.
Still the market allow all of us to buy shares at the same "friendly" price. Thank you very much. I hope I was not the only one who took advantage of that.
After the transaction was completed Mr. Wu has been all over the Chinese media to tell about the IPO, new products, new joint ventures etc. You can read all about it here (in Chinese ;D):
http://tech.wg365.com.cn/2005/2005-12-1/wg3652005121163704.shtml
Three major points in this article:
1. CECT's 2005 net income will be more than US$25 millions, in line the guidance in English news releases.
2. CECT IPO is going into the final preparational stage. Almost ready.
3. Xing has made an joint-venture with a leading GSM manufacturer in Korea to build a company producing mobile chip sets (Xing holds 67% ownership). In other words, in addition to manufacturing phones, Xing is going directly to manufacturing core components of cell phones. They are aiming to sell the chips to cell phone manufacturers all over the world. The new company is expected to reach a revenue run rate of US$125 millions by the end of 2006.
And here are the video's:
1. Interview with Wu by Hong Kong Television:

Mike
THIS STOCK IS READY TO EXPLODE WITH GROWTH !!!
GLAD TO BE IN
:)))
ok now...here we go.
1.) XING gapped up on Tuesday after spectacular earnings were released - income of $1.44/share 2005 vs. $0.17/share in 2004
http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/060620/earns_qiao_xing.html?.v=1
2.) the stock gapped from monday's close of $9.34 to $11.67 on tuesday morning...going as high as $12.15....high on monday was $9.59
3.) the stock however pulled back wednesday and filled the gap at around $9.66 (low of day wednesday)
4.) today, it went back up on higher volume than yesterday's down day, and close near high of day.
here's a chart.
first resistance is the high on tuesday when earnings were released - $12.15
after that, it's probably gonna run higher...why?
because the P/E = 6.7 (after earnings were released). previously, it was somewhere around 65 !!!
anyway...chart looks good, fundamentals are awesome...great growth story from china...now, if only the general market could assist a little bit. ;)
Chinese company which had news monday. Looking for 30% sales growth in 2006 and 35% income growth 2006 thru 2010. Traded 4.6 mil shares monday and the market closed at 1pm. Could have another good day as it was mentioned on cnbc. Good luck

A new video analysis about XING by David Randolph:
(Rating= 4 out of 10)
not so good lately is it?
XING on May, 21st:
«Someone, I believe it was raspi, asked about XING. Over the following link is the reason why I sold it at $19.1 with a 27% profit: Reason for selling XING in 02-22-2007 (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=8742.msg89522#msg89522).
XING's market cap on a fully diluted basis is 36.63 million shares issued and outstanding times $13.55 = $496 M.
But the thing got worse with the QXM IPO, because that is nothing but further dilution, since QXM is currently a $563 M market cap company according to Market Watch (http://www.marketwatch.com/Quotes/qxm).
Remember when I said that XING would definitely be worth $1 B in the future? Ok, here you have it, XING and QXM are the same business as before, and their combined market value is $1.06 B. The stock price went down, but the combined market cap went up.
Perhaps I'm seeing something wrong, but the QXM IPO represented further dilution to me, and the Dutton EPS estimate doesn't seem reasonable at all after the recent developments.
I know several of you own XING, not just own, many people love this stock, so I'm sorry for being bearish on it. If XING wanted to get serious it should start filing forms 10 with the SEC, but management doesn't want to do that, because then they would have to disclose all XING's risks and potential dilution.
The chart also turned decisively bearish, with the stock breaking down below the 200 days SMA. I hope I'm wrong, good luck :)»
Ah, good old XING. This story on this one was so promising.

Ah, good old XING. This story on this one was so promising.
Yep, but it was a "low P/E, high growth" type of story which seems so logic but unfortunately fails so many times. In XING's case the explanation for the failure was relatively obvious, dilution was the cause, but on other stocks it's harder to explain. Maybe they're just cheap ;)
I was reading on Citron's website the importance he puts on a cash flow analysis, on the general notion that "cash doesn't lie". I'll also increase the importance I give to the cash flow statement in my analysis as I look for the answer to the "why" question.
This is a shocker, XING is entering the Mining business:

What does XING management know about mines? This sounds like "deworsification", using Peter Lynch's term.
This reminds of CHID.OB, another Chinese company which used to make batteries for mobile devices and suddenly it changed its business model to tourism or something like that.
This announcement has red flags all over the place, I hope I'm wrong, or else "Xingalings" will take a beating.

I've been bearish on XING for a long time and have been wondering why the stock didn't fell, it even rose a bit, after XING's sudden move to mining.

Hi Notbeln, sorry, I just saw your question now.
Let me see, XING had that 17.6% gap up (after a -16.6% gap down) on the following news:
• Qiao Xing Universal Telephone, Inc.'s Major Indicators of Financial Performance for 2007 Expected to Reach a Record High (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/071227/cnth012.html?.v=40)
PR Newswire (Thu, Dec 27)
XING's management is full of tricks, now they talk a lot about "basic EPS". I don't care about "basic", I want to know about the fully diluted earnings. What is XING's share count on a fully diluted basis? Nobody knows for sure (beyond corporate insiders) and until XING files a form 10 with the SEC, I will never be confident enough to buy it, nevermind the declared operational results.
My recommendation for XING continues to be "avoid".
How about now?

Hmm, XING had a 40% rebound or so, probably due to the following news:
Qiao Xing Universal's CECT Subsidiary Releases Newest Handset Model: C7000A Offers Cardiograph, 120 Days Ultra-Long Standby and 3.0" LCD Screen (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/080229/cnf017.html?.v=28)

I'm thinking that we should also have QXM in the Watch List, which resulted from XING's spin off.
XING still didn't file a form 10 with the SEC or disclosed an accurate number of warrants outstanding, so I still don't know what is the # of shares outstanding on a fully diluted basis. In the meantime holders of shares and warrants continue to file stuff like this:
http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1051846/000121865008000014/xing12312007.txt
«51,000,000 Convertible Bonds convertible to 5,802,496 shares of Common Stock»
XING is a good candidate for a short sale, in my view. The descending trendline currently stands at $7.80, that would be the ideal place for a sale.
I'll keep waiting for a touch on the resistance.
