Well Guys... this is not a sure trade yet... but:
- We have a strong white candle with volume and a breakout on friday
- Things are very oversold on the mid-term
- The last relative lows on the short term are consecutive higher...
RMBS could be preparing a take off to higher levels... the potencial is nice 8)
I'll probably gonna buy tomorrow ;)
Rambus was on my 5 stocks on fire short list. I like the chart too.

What do we have here?
- A bearish trendline broken on the upside
- A new ascending line supporting the price
- Crossing 50 day moving average
What we get?
We get a nice balance between supply and demand for the stock to appreciate. It's that simple. I'm buying the open on Rambus.

... and higher lows for RMBS in the short term, so I'm still holding the stock.
... trading range, but the trend is bullish, and the higher probability goes for the trend to continue.
... usually these slight upward movements get momentum on their tail. I'm holding on to RMBS for the time being.
Pattern didn't change on RMBS. Again it left a considerable upper shadow. Bulls are afraid of holding but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
After all those upper shadows were trying to say something, but I didn't listen. Getting a bit tired of these falling angels from the bubble, they seem to still have a lot of bagholders in them. So much work to rise a bit and with a little blow we get this enormous sell off.
I'm still undecided if I should give more room to RMBS, for example to wait for it to close below that ascending trendline to have a selling confirmation. Not.
Selling tomorrow's open, can't stand these losers.
Dave,
Are you sure you want to sell it tomorrow? Please see the link attached for today's trading....

dhiraj19, explain this to me like I'm 6 years old. Why would the information on the link you provided change my attitude toward RMBS?
Thanks a lot, I really don't have a clue, still learning ... I just, for a principle, sell the losers and keep the winners. If this strategy gives me 100% a year I'll be the greatest trader that ever lived hahaha, just kidding ;D
Dave,
I appreciate your wisdom on all the picks. I follow you... Rambus is not my pick but I know its fundamentally strong for long term. Its company for future ( gaming, etc). Nothing linked to short term.
Main point:
I often use that website link for buy/sell ration of various shares and who are buying and selling. The chart shows the buy and sell ratio. If the chart has more blue upticks, there are more buys. Broader and darker blue uptick arrows mean more heavy buy. More reds you have, more sells. They have small hyperlinks for interpretation.
In pie charts of the page, you can see the participants of the above behaviour. If you see today's Pfizer chart "pfe" in that page, you'll see 40% trading (mostly sell) was by institutions. ( News -> Medical fraud). Red downticks across the board.
I have bought CGTK on your recommendation but have seen the corresponding charts on the website. It has always shown blue on those price levels, hence your theory is correct. Today, some Institution also bought cgtk shares. :)
I dont know how it can benefit but I surely like that website for my easier interpretation.
Anyways, I'll be waiting for your next pick, as I have some cash and am waiting for your recomendation to buy and follow..
Thanks for the explanation dhiraj19. I've seen that kind of thought on many boards, with people watching what the institutional traders are doing and following it.
«Institutions were the buyers». «There was an institutional seller on the stock».
I have this question: since when the institutions are always right, more, since when did the institutions on average made money? They make money on bull markets, they lose it on bear markets. They underperform the market by all means. Why should I follow their steps?
I don't understand that thing of more buys than sales. Every time there's a buy order filled there was a sell order to meet it and vice-versa, so shares bought=shares sold=volume. Maybe some indicator ...
Again, thanks for the explanation, just questioning those popular methods ...

Rambus shares surge as Hynix motion fails
Thursday January 5, 8:22 am ET
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Rambus Inc. (NasdaqNM:RMBS - News) shares jumped 11 percent in premarket trading after it said a judge dismissed a motion by chipmaker Hynix Semiconductor Inc. (KSE:000660.KS - News) to throw out its lawsuit.
The maker of computer memory technology has sought royalties from chipmakers on intellectual property that it says is used in standard computer chips, known as DRAM.
The trial has been set for March 6, 2006.
Rambus said in a statement that Judge Ronald Whyte denied Hynix's request to dismiss the case based on "unclean hands and document spoliation" after a two-week evidentiary hearing.
Rambus shares rose $1.96, or 10.6 percent, to $20.45 in premarket trading, from a Wednesday close of $18.49 on the Nasdaq.

Rambus Shares Soar on Legal Win, AMD Licensing Deal
NEW YORK (AP) -- Rambus Inc. shares continued on their skyward ascent on Monday, following a ruling last week that a memory patent trial with Hynix Semiconductor Inc. could go forward, in spite of Hynix's request to dismiss the case.
Shares of Los Altos, Calif.-based Rambus were trading up $5.01, or 21.8 percent, at $27.95 in late afternoon trading on the Nasdaq. Earlier in the session, the stock set a new 52-week high of $28.71, soaring past the prior ceiling of $23. Shares are up more than 70 percent since closing on Dec. 30 at $16.19.
Last week, a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, San Jose division, threw out Hynix's request to dismiss the case based on "unclean hands and document spoliation."
Investors may also be optimistic that a settlement conference scheduled for later this month could be fruitful. The conference in the Hynix-versus-Rambus patent case, is scheduled for Jan. 17.
Separately, last week Rambus agreed to a five-year patent licensing deal with Advanced Micro Devices Inc. reportedly worth $75 million, which Pacific American Securities analyst Michael Cohen characterized as fairly important as Rambus is trying to advance new memory interfaces.
"Rambus has been trying to get XDR, extreme data rate, on the roadmap for some time now," Cohen said in an interview.

WR Hambrecht Ups Rambus to Buy from Hold
Cites the pending trials of the company's lawsuits
WR Hambrecht upgraded Rambus (RMBS ) to buy from hold, citing potential royalties that the company might get from litigation.
The company is involved in a patent infringement lawsuit and price fixing cases against Hynix Semiconductor and others.
Analyst Daniel Amir believes 2006 could be a positive turning point for Rambus as cases reach their trial phases. Amir estimates that the positive outcomes from these events could lead to financial settlements from Hynix and others that could generate $936 million in revenue for Rambus. As such he upgrades and sets a $38 year-end price target.

It was a mixed bag for Rambus (RMBS:Nasdaq - commentary - research - Cramer's Take) this quarter, as the company saw its earnings drop and revenue rise.
The Los Altos, Calif., company, which manufacturers and licenses chip-interface technologies, made $1.8 million, which includes $5.2 million of after tax noncash stock-based compensation, the first time the company has recognized this figure in its results. For the same quarter last year, Rambus earned $4.4 million.
The company earned 2 cents a share, down from the 4 cents a share earned last year.
Revenue tallied $47.2 million, up from the $39.6 million in sales from the year-ago quarter. The company said the increase was due mainly to the royalty fees received as a result of deals with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD:NYSE - commentary - research - Cramer's Take) and Fujitsu, signed in the fourth quarter of 2005 and the first quarter of 2006, respectively.
The company posted an operating loss of $464,000 (including $8.4 million of noncash stock-based compensation) for the quarter. A year ago, Rambus had operating income of $4.9 million.
Rambus shares took a dive in after-hours trading on Instinet, slumping 2.6%, or $1.22, to $45.38. During the regular session of trading shares closed down 20 cents to $46.60.
"Achieving back to back record revenue is a great accomplishment and showcases the growing market appreciation of the value delivered by Rambus' innovations," Harold Hughes, Rambus CEO, said in a statement. "We continue to make solid progress with our patent licensing efforts and are pleased with our results for the first quarter of 2006."
Revenues were higher but profits were lower.I like the comment about rev. were higher because of royalties from AMD and FUjitsu and than CEO talking about achieving back to back record rev.(Funny)
I think we can easily see 40.

Analyst Firm: WR Hambrecht
Ratings Action: REITERATION
Current Rating: Buy
Target Price Action: INCREASE
Target Price: $51.00 (+34.21% from $38.00)
Analyst Comments: Yesterday, the jury in the Hynix trial found that Hynix infringed on all eight patents which Rambus claimed it had and awarded Rambus $306M in award damages. Overall, the firm says this is very positive for Rambus and while they had anticipated this positive outcome, the damages award of $306M was higher than the $150M they had estimated in their note on April 17. They believe that the next stage will be a Hynix appeal of the decision but at the same time it will likely come back to the negotiation table more seriously for a settlement that is likely to include an ongoing 3.5% DRAM royalty rate. Due to the positive outcome of the trial, the firm has raised its price target to $51 to reflect this higher than expected award outcome and the potential positive business developments associated with it.

RMBS: BWS Financial Ups to Hold from Sell; Analyst Notes
Thursday , June 22, 2006 09:30 ET
Issuer: Rambus Inc. (NasdaqNM: RMBS)
Analyst Firm: BWS Financial
Ratings Action: UPGRADE
Current Rating: Hold (from Sell)
Analyst Comments: Over the past couple of months shares of Rambus have fallen by more than 50% from their highs since the firm downgraded the shares to a Sell based on valuations. The firm is upgrading the stock citing that the downside is limited considering the fair valuation that they put on the shares of $20 that they do not see a reason to carry a Sell rating at this time. There are a few catalysts that could actually help the stock move higher over the next month. The Company is expected to receive a ruling on the FTC appeal of the ruling in favor of RMBS, which at this time they see the case staying in favor of RMBS. The Hynix Semiconductor trial is entering its next phase of the litigation process, which they expect to also fall into RMBS' favor. RMBS usually announces second quarter results by the second week of July, which could also turn out to be positive for the Company.

BOISE, Idaho, Mar 26, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Micron Technology, Inc. (MU, Trade), today announced that it strongly disagrees with a federal court jury decision that Rambus Inc., did not violate antitrust laws or commit fraud by illegally deceiving members of JEDEC in the establishment of important standards in the computer chip industry. The jury decision concluded a trial that began in late January in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in San Jose.
In the trial, Micron and fellow memory manufacturers Hynix Semiconductor and Nanya Technology argued that Rambus violated antitrust laws by monopolizing, or attempting to monopolize, six technology markets through Rambus patents covering features in JEDEC industry standards for DRAM interface technology.
Micron strongly believes that the evidence entered at the trial proves that Rambus violated antitrust laws and committed fraud, and Micron plans to appeal the outcome. Micron officials also believe that the jury's decision is inconsistent with previous decisions by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the European Commission (EC). In August 2006, the FTC unanimously found that, through a course of illegal and deceptive conduct, Rambus was able to distort the critical standard-setting process of JEDEC and engaged in an anticompetitive "hold up" of the computer memory industry. Similarly, in July 2007, the EC issued a Statement of Objections describing its views that Rambus engaged in intentional deceptive conduct in the standard-setting process or "patent ambush" and violated EC law by subsequently claiming unreasonable royalties for the use of relevant patents.
"Micron believes that Rambus has engaged in a pattern of deception, destruction of evidence, false testimony and other improper activities designed to mislead and to extract unjust patent licensing fees and damages. We will continue to vigorously advance our claims that Rambus has engaged in a variety of illegal activities designed to injure Micron," said Rod Lewis, Micron's Vice President of Legal Affairs and General Counsel.
This trial phase involving certain conduct claims against Rambus is only one phase in a number of pending cases between Micron and Rambus. For example, in a December 2007 bench trial before Judge Robinson in Delaware, Micron presented evidence that Rambus destroyed evidence and engaged in litigation misconduct as part of its efforts to improperly extract licensing fees and damages from Micron. As a result of those wrongful actions, Micron has asked the Delaware court to dismiss Rambus' patent claims against Micron. A decision in that case is pending.
Additionally, Micron also believes that Rambus' patents are invalid, not infringed, and unenforceable. Recently, in connection with a reexamination of a key Rambus patent, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) issued a preliminary rejection of all the claims. In February 2008, as part of its reexamination process, the PTO preliminarily rejected all of the claims of Rambus' U.S. patent 6,715,020, one of the patents Rambus has asserted against Micron and other memory manufacturers. A group of other key Rambus patents are still pending reexamination in the PTO. Likewise, the European Patent Office (EPO) has revoked or substantially narrowed Rambus patents asserted against Micron in various European countries. As a result, Rambus' infringement claims have been dismissed in the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy.
In September 2000, Rambus filed patent infringement suits against Micron in London, England, Mannheim, Germany, Monza, Italy, and Paris, France alleging that Micron infringed Rambus European patent 525 068. On October 26, 2000, Micron filed an opposition to Rambus' European patent 525 068 in the EPO. In February 2004, the EPO permanently revoked the patent. As a result, the courts in London, England and Mannheim, Germany subsequently dismissed Rambus' patent infringement case and awarded costs to Micron. The Monza, Italy case previously was dismissed in May 24, 2001 when the court rejected Rambus' assertions of infringement. Dismissal of the Paris, France, case is still pending.
In August 2001, Rambus filed suit against Micron in Pavia, Italy, alleging that Micron infringed Rambus European patent 1 022 642. In September 2001, Micron filed an opposition to that patent in the EPO. In May 2005, the EPO Opposition Division preliminarily rejected all claims of the '642 patent. Rambus subsequently dismissed its patent infringement case against Micron in Pavia, Italy.

"Success loves to hide behind challenges.

If you ever held a position in this stock...
Here's Why Rambus Is Earning So Much for You
Margins matter. The more Rambus (Nasdaq: RMBS) keeps of each buck it earns in revenue, the more money it has to invest in growth, fund new strategic plans, or (gasp!) distribute to shareholders. Healthy margins often separate pretenders from the best stocks in the market. That's why I check on my holdings' margins at least once a quarter. I'm looking for the absolute numbers, comparisons to sector peers and competitors, and any trend that may tell me how strong Rambus's competitive position could be.
Here's the current margin snapshot for Rambus and some of its sector and industry peers and direct competitors.
Company.......TTM Gross Margin.......TTM Operating Margin.......TTM Net Margin
Rambus 97.9% 32.2% 46.7%
ARMH 93.6% 26.3% 21.1%
MU 31.1% 20% 20%
NVDA 39.8% 5.6% 7.1%
Source: Capital IQ, a division of Standard & Poor's. TTM = trailing 12 months.
Unfortunately, that table doesn't tell us much about where Rambus has been, or where it's going. A company with rising gross and operating margins often fuels its growth by increasing demand for its products. If it sells more units while keeping costs in check, its profitability increases. Conversely, a company with gross margins that inch downward over time is often losing out to competition, and possibly engaging in a race to the bottom on prices. If it can't make up for this problem by cutting costs -- and most companies can't -- then both the business and its shares face a decidedly bleak outlook.
Of course, over the short term, the kind of economic shocks we recently experienced can drastically affect a company's profitability. That's why I like to look at five fiscal years' worth of margins, along with the results for the trailing 12 months (TTM), the last fiscal year, and last fiscal quarter (LFQ). You can't always reach a hard conclusion about your company's health, but you can better understand what to expect, and what to watch.
Here's the margin picture for Rambus over the past few years.
Source: Capital IQ, a division of Standard & Poor's. Dollar amounts in millions. FY= fiscal year. TTM = trailing 12 months.
Here's how the stats break down:
•Over the past five years, gross margin peaked at 97.9% and averaged 89.2%. Operating margin peaked at 32.2% and averaged (1%). Net margin peaked at 46.7% and averaged (40.1%).
•TTM gross margin is 97.9%, 870 basis points better than the five-year average. TTM operating margin is 32.2%, 3,320 basis points better than the five-year average. TTM net margin is 46.7%, 8,680 basis points better than the five-year average.
With TTM margins all at a 5-year high, Rambus looks like it's doing great.
