Avaya Enables Midea to Provide 'Cool' 8) Services to Its Air Conditioner Customers in Hot Summer
Thursday August 18, 9:30 am ET
BEIJING, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The unusual hot weather this summer in many parts of China, while boosting sales of air conditioners, has also proved to be a major "test" for the service quality of the market players. One of China's largest air conditioner vendors, Midea Refrigeration Equipment Co., Ltd (Midea), continues to deliver first rate customer services to consumers all over the country, with the help of a highly efficient contact center based on solutions from Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV - News), a leading global provider of business communications software, systems and services.
Midea put its new contact center into use in June, in anticipation of the busy season in the next three months, and adopted the Avaya S8700 media server and G650 media gateway to build a new platform for customer service. This new system has greatly enhanced capacity and response speed of the contact center, and also enabled Midea to provide personalized services.
"Competition within the air conditioner market has gone beyond price wars, advertising wars, and the so called 'new concept' wars. Nowadays consumers are more and more concerned about the service levels. They want to be convinced that they can get timely and high quality services, from consulting, implementation to maintenance," said Kuang Guangzheng, IT Director of Midea.
Midea who has more than 20 million air conditioner users in the country, demands that the new contact center can handle large volume of calls efficiently, and with high availability and flexibility. Midea believes that every interaction with the client is a unique experience of Midea brand, and wants to make sure these interactions are always pleasant and efficient. The Avaya platform has performed well during this hot summer season and met the needs of Midea, according to Mr. Kuang.
The contact center, now with 100 seats, can handle twice as many calls as before. The Avaya ACD technologies also provide advanced call routing functions, which enable the agents to handle calls more efficiently. This has greatly reduced drop-off rates, and enhanced the productivity of the whole contact center.
The Avaya solution will also allow Midea to extend the current contact center to a distributed one in the future, and allow placement of IP agents in different locations. This will allow for more flexibility and responsiveness, and help Midea to service consumers in a more cost effective and personalized way.
Apart from enhancing sales and customer service level, Kuang believed that in the long run, the new contact center will help Midea in building a "customer centric" culture within the whole company.
Mr. Chen Xianghui, Avaya Regional Manager of South China, said:" Contact Center is far more than just taking calls. They are becoming increasingly intelligent with the help of IP Telephony technologies. Avaya, as a market leader with rich experiences and a clear vision of the future, is committed to help Chinese companies create real business value and obtain competitive advantages from their 'intelligent' contact centers."

Avaya also said that its IP line shipments surpassed traditional line shipments this year, further demonstrating Avaya's global momentum in a growing market.

Avaya Helps Allstate Insurance Company Enhance Customer Service With IP Telephony
Wednesday October 5, 7:00 am ET
BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV - News), a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services, announced today that Allstate Insurance Company has deployed Avaya Internet protocol (IP) telephony solutions to new locations in the U.S. and Canada.
Avaya's IP-based contact center applications, powered by the Avaya Customer Interaction Suite, are used by Allstate to manage customer calls and route them intelligently based on customer-entered criteria. Allstate links their contact centers and manages them as a single, virtual organization -- routing customers to the employee best able to handle a claim or inquiry based on language or area of expertise, regardless of where the call originates. As part of their implementation, Allstate has deployed over 10,000 IP endpoints across its organization.
The new network evolves Allstate's existing Avaya communications infrastructure, continuing to support both traditional and IP telephony concurrently, and allowing the insurer to evolve its operations at its own pace. Both traditional and IP telephony endpoints are able to communicate while the transition is underway and can be managed as part of a single network.
"How satisfied our customers are depends on how responsive we are when they have major life events such as Hurricane Katrina," said Catherine Brune, senior vice president and chief information officer for Allstate. "We need to be able to ramp up our customer care operations quickly and efficiently when a hurricane, tornado or other disaster creates a spike in claims activity. Avaya's IP telephony solutions are a natural fit and already help us pull in additional resources and improve responsiveness to our policyholders when they need us the most -- as well as to operate our business more efficiently on a day-to-day basis."
Allstate is also using Avaya IP solutions to enhance the business continuity of its own operations during catastrophic events. Using any telephone, PC or laptop computer, employees are able to log into the network from home or another work location and make and receive calls just as if they were in the office. This includes equipping workers with the Avaya IP Softphone -- a software-based phone on one's PC or laptop -- which enables Allstate to tap the talents of mobile employees and telecommuters in locations other than 'brick and mortar' contact center facilities.
"The solutions used by Allstate reinforce the significant value IP telephony brings to businesses who must address real-time challenges quickly and efficiently, while ensuring the highest levels of customer service and satisfaction," said Lou D'Ambrosio, group vice president, Avaya. "Avaya's IP telephony and contact center solutions help businesses of all kinds use intelligent communications to connect people, processes and customers in a 24/7 world."
The Avaya communications solution for Allstate is based on Avaya Communication Manager, the company's industry-leading IP telephony software that delivers intelligent communications capabilities to businesses. Avaya Media Servers and Gateways are used to host the software and distribute more innovative communications features to employees, regardless of where they are based. Backup servers provide seamless survivability capabilities if a connection to the primary server is lost.

Avaya May Have 30%-50% Upside To Market In Near Term
Ed Lin, 10.05.05, 9:48 AM ET
Avaya
SG Cowen said Avaya (nyse: AV - news - people ) "is on track to meet our above-consensus estimates for the fiscal fourth quarter," excluding the dilution of 1 cent per share from the acquisition of Nimcat.
SG Cowen said, "Not only has the company started to improve its North American execution, but Tenovis seems to be track in terms of both integration and execution. Finally, new products targeting branch offices and enterprise mobility should drive continued growth."
Avaya shares could outperform the market by 30% to 50% over the next 12 months, the research firm said.
The firm said its checks showed that Avaya's fiscal fourth quarter ended September will show upside to a Thomson First Call consensus estimate for earnings of 17 cents per share on $1.28 billion in revenue. "We have heard that the quarter was linear, little push at the end of the quarter, and Avaya had won several large managed services contracts," SG Cowen said.
SG Cowen expects Avaya to earn 19 cents per share on revenue of $1.30 billion in the fiscal fourth quarter.

Unitrin Direct Enhances Customer Service and Reduces Costs With Avaya Communications Network
Wednesday May 9, 7:30 am ET
Strategic Products and Services, Avaya Business Partner of the Year for Communications Applications, designs and delivers advanced IP telephony solution for Unitrin Direct
BASKING RIDGE, N.J., May 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Commitment to customer service is a key differentiator when building a business that relies on phone and online channels. It has helped Unitrin Direct become a leading automobile insurer in 22 states.
In a continuing effort to meet the needs of its customers, Unitrin Direct has brought call and claims centers together with a new Internet protocol (IP) telephony solution from Avaya Inc. (NYSE: AV - News), a leading global provider of business applications, systems and services.
"With Avaya's system, we have enhanced our communication system in a way that will greatly benefit auto insurance customers," said Brian Crumbaker, senior vice president, operations and claims. "Not only does Avaya's technology make it easier and quicker for consumers to get quotes and choose policy options, it reduces Unitrin Direct's operating costs, which allows us to offer lower rates."
The Avaya solution for Unitrin Direct consolidates five communications systems into a single network at sites in Vista, Calif.; Moosic and Plymouth Meeting, Penn.; Tampa, Fla.; and San Antonio, Texas. The solution was designed and implemented by Strategic Products and Services (SPS), a Platinum-level Avaya Business Partner headquartered in Cedar Knolls, N.J. that was recently named "Avaya Business Partner of the Year for Communications Applications."
"We realized there were untapped synergies between our call center offices and claims centers," said Pete Braitsch, information technology director for Unitrin Direct. "Avaya's single, seamless network links the sites in a way that decreases our costs and expands our capabilities."
Unitrin Direct anticipates that Avaya's technology will save the company nearly $100,000 annually through gains in efficiency and savings on long- distance and office-to-office communications. Simple, four-digit dialing allows staff members to reach colleagues or transfer customer calls over the new data network to any of the five locations.
Since communications play an important role in Unitrin Direct's business, the Avaya IP telephony network enables each office to operate independently if necessary. That means if one office temporarily loses connectivity because of an event such as a power outage, the other offices won't be affected.
"This technology serves our customers on many levels," Braitsch said. "It helps us deliver superior service in a time-efficient manner, and we can do it with less staff. That translates into cost-reductions for the company and greater savings for the consumer."

Media Report: Avaya Negotiating Possible Buyout
BASKING RIDGE, N.J. (AP) -- Telecommunications gear maker Avaya is negotiating with private equity and strategic bidders about selling all or part of the company, according to a media report.
The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, said would-be buyers include private equity firms attracted to the $6 billion company's cash flow and low debt. There's also interest from network makers Cisco Systems and Nortel Networks.
When contacted by The Associated Press on Monday, Avaya representatives declined to comment on the report, saying it's company policy not to comment on "speculation and rumors."
Still, the company's shares rose $2.03, nearly 15 percent, to $15.70 on Tuesday.
The Basking Ridge-based company went through tough times in 2002, but now appears to be trying to take advantage of a period of high-tech dealmaking.
Avaya has already postponed an analyst day meeting scheduled for May 31, and a new date for that session hasn't been released, a signal to some analysts that it may be in buyout talks.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Avaya is discussing a leveraged buyout plan with the private equity firm Silver Lake.
Avaya also reportedly discussed a deal with Nortel earlier this month. Momentum slowed on the talks when the two companies couldn't agree on a price or whether Nortel should pay with cash or stock, but a deal might still happen, people familiar with the situation told The Wall Street Journal.
Cisco, a giant in networking and telecom gear, has avoided buying much-smaller Avaya for years, but may now be interested in Avaya's private phone switch unit that uses Internet protocol technology. The two companies have been competing in providing telephone switching technologies to businesses using servers for such operations.
One person familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal that Cisco might be interested in buying all of Avaya.
Avaya equipment helps direct voice and data traffic at almost all of the largest corporations in the U.S.
A former division of Lucent Technologies and its predecessor firm AT&T, Avaya also has patents and equipment for transforming traditional phone and data systems into integrated Internet Protocol-based networks.

Is Avaya in play?
Tuesday May 29, 3:07 pm ET
Networking companies Nortel and Cisco, both of which have major operations in Research Triangle Park, are reportedly in talks to purchase all or part of New Jersey-based telecom Avaya.
The New York Times reported Tuesday that Nortel and Cisco, along with private equity firm Silver Lake Partners, are potential suitors for Avaya, one of the largest providers of communications services for businesses. Purchasing Avaya would help either company shore up its business-IT arm, the Times said.
Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO - News) employs 3,200 full-time workers in the Triangle; Nortel (NYSE: NT - News) employs 2,600. Shares of both companies were up about 1 percent in mid-afternoon trading to $25.82 and $26.01, respectively.
Shares of Avaya (NYSE: AV - News) were up 14.2 percent to $15.61 in mid-afternoon trading. Its market capitalization sat at just above $7 billion, below that of Nortel ($11.5 billion) and Cisco ($156.6 billion).
