Title: DPHIQ.PK
Post by: David Randolph on May 20, 2005, 05:03:07 AM
Delphi Corporation (DPH). The Group's principal activity is to supply vehicle electronics, transportation components, integrated systems and modules and other electronic technology.

The chart on Delphi looks like this:

From volume analysis and candlestick analysis I believe the stock has the power to run and fill that gap between $5.91 and $6.28. I believe the stock won't gap higher today so I'll probably buy at the open.

When I sell I'll just post an answer to this post. I hope the time to sell comes when DPH is at that gap area  8)

Title: Successfully testing support
Post by: David Randolph on June 02, 2005, 05:13:59 AM
I know, I know, I've broken one golden rule at DPH: never let a profit turn into a loss.

And there are no excuses for that, I've broken a rule so I'm willing (and wishing) to pay for this !

Some people might say an average trader can set a stop loss rule and follow it, but an experienced trader knows when to take a loss. I still don't have a definitive answer to this - but I know a man can't lose more than it is reasonable, and that reasonable changes with the type of the stock he's trading.

If I expect a 100% short term profit maybe I'm willing to lose some 20%. But a man can't lose 20% on a slow moving stock that would take a month to climb that same 20% !!!

Coming back to DPH, it has tested support and reacted positively. I still expect the stock to reach that gap area, but knowing I'm breaking a rule here I might have to pull the sell trigger anytime.

David:

DPH will go up for mid-term gain.  Just loaded it up at $4.54.

Title: Again in the black on DPH
Post by: David Randolph on June 03, 2005, 05:19:54 AM
... maybe the break of a golden rule will bring me profits this time, which is always a dangerous psychological thing to happen. There are thousands of ways for a man to get lost in the stock market and it all starts when he breaks a rule (supposing he has rules).

So I'll protect my brain - and my wallet - putting an automatic stop loss on DPH. If the stock closes below $4.12 I'll sell that close, at any price and at any time.

Considering the upside I still hope that gap area will be reached.

I believe by looking at the curve that it should go up next week.
Title: Yesterday's doji candles ...
Post by: David Randolph on June 05, 2005, 04:22:19 AM
... shows there's some indecision from players on DPH. Volume was a bit weaker than normal. Decision will come Monday for the short term but I'll stick to my plan and don't think too much about this stock.

The stock game is a simple game. It is a dangerous thing for a man to think or try to know too much.

That doji candle was saying DPH needed more consolidation. As I said I don't want to think too much about this stock, I have my trading plan and I'll stick to it.

... I'm glad I didn't thought much about the stock or perhaps I would had sold it  ;D

$5.91 - $6.28 is the target area.

Bullish white candle on DPH. I wish she closes above $4.59 so I can trust that she's not only closing that minor gap. Again thinking too much. I have my trading plan stated above and I have nothing to do with this stock except following the plan.

DPH is away from the target area and away from the stop level. No brainer here. Holding the stock.

David, can a newbie ask a question of you? I don't even know enough to know if it's a dumb one. Is the chart you last posted showing a "teacup" pattern? If you have the time, would you tell me why it is or isn't? Thanks in advance. I have learned a ton in the last few weeks, using this site, and Yahoo's glossary of trading terms. If I run into something I don't understand, I just look it up.(and who said Yahoo was TOTALlY worthless?-lol) I'm SO glad I found this site.

Hello wheezledick !

I believe you're going to be disappointed with this but I don't know what a «teacup» pattern is  ???  So you should look on that great Yahoo website for that  ;D

Ask all you want, I know a few things about the stock market ...

Considering DPH, these news came out yesterday during the session, I've heard them even on TV:
Delphi execs resign; audit on track (http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story.asp?siteid=mktw&guid=%7B536377D2%2DF1CA%2D4E92%2D9574%2D417D47E91F06%7D&)

The stock went down on the news, but not so much as one might expect. I'm sticking with my plan and not paying too much attention to the news flow or minor technical information like the one we had today.

I'll sell if the stock closes below $4.13 or at the gap zone at $5.91-$6.28.

Sorry, I think I meant a cup and handle pattern. lol

Even a cup and handle pattern, I don't know what that is  ::) But I never needed it anyway, so ... but when you find out what that is please tell me, ok? Thanks  ;)

Moving on to DPH, I'm loving the market action. We get bad news and the stock doesn't go down, it even rises. That's a mighty powerful bullish setup. There's not much more thinking or analysis to do, this stock is going higher.

I'm not so confident about DPH as I was yesterday. I really don't know at this point, I didn't appreciate the general market action. But I'll try to keep my initial plan, try not to think too much and follow the rules.

David, here's what I found on "cup and handle patterns".

http://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/cupandhandle.asp

To my greenhorn eyes, it looks like maybe this is what's going on. Do you think that "patterns" such as this are legitimate buy or sell indicators? The method seems to be somewhat related to pattern charting, like the candlesticks. Thanks for piddling with a beginner. I don't want to appear to be slobbering all over you guys with the praise thing, but the fact that I haven't read a single post on this entire site where you chided or talked down to a member or guest for their inexperience. Actually, just about everyone here is civil, straight-up, and helpful. To me, that is primary to the results of your performance, which incidentally sure don't suck either.  ;D

Thanks wheezledick, it looks like you're right, DPH is showing a cup and handle pattern. And yes, I find technical patterns a reliable source of accurate trading signals.

Yesterday Deutsche Bank upgraded DPH: Delphi surges on Deutsche Bank upgrade (http://www.marketwatch.com/news/newsfinder/pulseone.asp?siteid=mktw&dateid=38517.5494969907-836688942&)

The GM rise of late should help DPH reach that gap zone we're waiting for ...

Hello,

Iam very new to this so bear with me, after watching and comparing Visteon's activity for the last year from internally within the company, and comparing the synergy between both parts suppliers with their host company GM and Ford. I dont see why delphi will not return to the 10 marker it rode for a very long period of time, considering I think Visteon provided a mirror image with its surge from 3 to 8 approximately in such a short period of time. Basically, the circumstances delphi is facing, visteon is as well, however visteon sold back 13 facilities to FORD which 2 were key earners,(strongly believe Visteon will file BK in the next year and be the first of the spinoffs to die). However, Delphi's financials are much stronger than Visteon could of dreamed to be. My theory is GM will continue to aide delphi as did ford, and it would appear the momentum is upon us. Am I way off base, thx Dave.

One step more to the gap zone. Thanks for the nice research david10773  :)

We've had these news from Delphi yesterday:

Delphi Completes $2.8 Billion Refinancing Plan (http://www.marketwatch.com/tools/quotes/newsarticle.asp?siteid=mktw&sid=129959&guid=%7B7D003A54%2DC12A%2D4650%2D9C1B%2D46A59D9ECFD0%7D&symb=)

DPH had a low volume pullback derived from this news: GM falls as union deadline blurs (http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story.asp?siteid=mktw&guid=%7B3EA96E1F%2D1EB7%2D4893%2DB2B0%2D18DEF1E07116%7D&)

Volume was much weaker than in the advancing days and the stock came back at the end of the session. The $5.13 level was held on close so we continue to have a bullish behavior at DPH ...

DPH didn't react too badly to this downgrade: KeyBanc cuts GM, Ford, Delphi and Visteon on UAW talks (http://www.marketwatch.com/news/newsfinder/pulseone.asp?siteid=mktw&dateid=38520.3464718056-836882538&)

I would like to see another leg up in DPH for it to runaway from the $5.13 old resistance, now support. Still waiting for that gap zone to take profits.

DPH closed below support at $5.13, so I'm selling the stock at today's open.
