This company makes large Flat panel tv's.  Small co. may have some deals working with big retailors to get their tv's in (ie. Best Buy).  This is pure Speculation, but today's volume says something.  Low float, move fast.

Syntax-Brillian Shares Up on 3Q Earnings
Friday November 3, 11:32 am ET
Shares of Syntax-Brillian Rise As Third-Quarter Earnings Beat Wall Street Forecasts

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Syntax-Brillian Corp. hit a new 52-week high in morning trading Friday, a day after the Tempe, Ariz.-based maker of high-definition televisions beat Wall Street forecasts for third-quarter revenue and earnings.

Syntax-Brillian shares made it as high as $7.95, before sliding back to $7.82, up $1.56, or 25 percent, on the Nasdaq. The previous 52-week high was $6.58.

Revenue in the third quarter more than tripled from the third quarter of 2005 as Syntax Groups Corp. added the operations of Brillian Corp. after their November 2005 merger.

Earnings of 7 cents per share widely beat Wall Street forecasts for per-share profit of a penny.

CIBC World Markets analyst Daniel M. Gelbtuch upgraded Syntax-Brillian to "Sector Outperformer" from "Sector Performer," with a price target of $10.

Gelbtuch said the company is picking up business from major retailers like Circuit City Stores Inc. and is poised to penetrate the European market with the acquisition of Vivitar.

Baird analyst Tristan Gerra said margins are improving because of growing consumer preference for large-screen televisions.

Rudolph Technologies Volume Soars After Earnings, Guidance Miss Wall Street Expectations

NEW YORK (AP) -- The following companies showed unusually heavy volume in trading Friday on the Nasdaq around 2 p.m. Higher-than-normal volume can indicate increased activity by institutions such as mutual funds and insurance companies. Volume soared to 3.6 million shares, compared to average daily trading volume of 270,000 shares.

Syntax-Brillian Corp. traded heavily after the Tempe, Ariz.-based maker of high-definition televisions beat Wall Street forecasts for third-quarter revenue and earnings.

Title: BRLC overbought but long term attractive
Post by: David Randolph on November 13, 2006, 10:56:13 AM
1. Introduction

Oh, I miss saffeysite1, what a wonderful trader he is. I just wrote him a private message to see if I get him back to writing on 3 Stocks on Fire. The man was in BRLC @$3  :) (well, then the stock went up to $6 plus, back to $2.5 and now almost $8 - amazing volatility).

This analysis is part of my daily study of three different stocks. I hope you enjoy  :)

2. Profile

Syntax-Brillian Corporation (BRLC) (www.syntaxbrillian.com) is one of the world's leading manufacturers and marketers of LCD and LCoS(TM) HDTVs and digital entertainment products. The company's lead products include its Olevia brand (www.olevia.com) of widescreen HDTV-ready and HD-built-in LCD TVs -- one of the fastest growing global TV brands -- and its next-generation Gen II LCoS(TM) 720p and 1080p rear-projection HDTVs for the high-end video/audio market. Syntax-Brillian's global supply chain, Asian operations, and North American sales channels position the company as a market leader in consumer and high-end HDTVs and digital entertainment products.

3. Technical Analysis
3.1. All History Chart

Nothing special on this all history chart for BRLC. The stock price is below its IPO price back in 2003.

3.2. Medium Term Chart

Jesus, this stock is up 300% in just 4 months :o. What a catch. It looks very overbought now, but who cares about that? It was overbought already at $6. Huge gap on the beginning of November, we'll get to that in a moment.

3.3. Short Term Chart

There's no doubt the trend is bullish. I really have to read the 3rd quarter numbers and put them into historical context to get a better feeling if the stock will continue to push higher or just correct to the ascending trendline.

4. Fundamental Analysis
4.1. Number of Shares Outstanding

Ouch, big dilution started on 4Q 2005. The number of shares issued and outstanding rose from 7 million in 3Q 2005 to the current 51,446,695. This alone makes the market cap grow seven fold without any share price appreciation. This happened because of a merger between
BRLC and Syntax, as you'll see below. Anyway, the share count has been rising rapidly over the last 3 quarters.

The current market cap is 51,446,695*$7.66 = $394.1 M.

4.2. Liquidity

These $27 M in working capital on the balance sheet mask a not so pretty reality. Check the inventory build up:

Green are inventories and blue are accounts receivable. As you see there was a build up in inventories in this latest quarter. Also, receivables are growing rapidly. The current ratio, which is current assets/current liabilities = 1.24, which is below the 2 minimum threshold level. But if we subtract from this the inventories and receivables the number gets a lot worse. But probably the inventory build up is the company preparing for the Christmas season.

4.3. Revenues

The November 2005 merger completely changed BRLC. Let me check the news for this information:

«On November 30, 2005, we completed our merger with Syntax Groups Corporation, a privately held California corporation ("Syntax"), whereby a wholly owned subsidiary of our company was merged with and into Syntax and Syntax became a wholly owned subsidiary of our company (the "Merger"). As consideration for the Merger, Syntax shareholders received 1.5379 shares of our common stock for each share of Syntax common stock held by them on November 30, 2005 (the "Exchange Rate"). In the aggregate, shareholders of Syntax received approximately 34.3 million shares of our common stock. The Exchange Rate was calculated so that former shareholders of Syntax owned approximately 70% of the fully diluted shares of the combined company at the closing of the Merger. Therefore, the Merger has been accounted for as a reverse merger wherein Syntax is deemed to be the acquiring entity from an accounting perspective. As such, the historical financial statements of Syntax became the historical financial statements of the combined company upon completion of the Merger.»

So, comparisons between what the company is now and what it was a year ago are futile. I should consider just the latest 4 quarters. Analysts expect sales in 4Q to come in at $186.33 M, which is 3.1 fold more than in the same period of last year. Indeed, sales are growing very rapidly on BRLC.

Estimates for the 12 months until Jun 07 are for $583.5 M in revenues, and for Jun 08 are for $797 M. The current market cap is $394 M and the industry's price to sales ratio is 1.22 (so, exclusively according to this, market cap should be about $711 M in Jun 07 to be at market average. This means an 80% rise in the share price (or say, 50% on the share price plus 30% on the share count looks more realistic).

Let's check the net income (now I'll forget about the period before November 05).

4.4. Profits

Please note that the last 3 bars represent the expectation for full fiscal years 2006, 2007 and 2008. For fiscal 2007, which ends in June 07, the estimate is for $0.48, so the current earnings multiple is 15.9. For Jun 2008, if estimates are met, the earnings multiple is 11.

5. General Overview

Man, this stock is hard to analyze. Analysts are seeing incredible growth here, and if they're right BRLC is trading at a huge discount.

Let's see, by parts:

- Technical analysis is very bullish, but the stock is up 300% in just 4 months or so. It may correct a chunk here.
- The increase in the number of shares outstanding is after all, normal. The big jump in the end of 2005 was because of the merger with Syntax, and the share count growth since then is the company financing itself to ramp up production, as demand is building.
- Probably the problems I see on the balance sheet are a seasonal thing. Inventories and receivables building up for the Christmas shopping season.
- Revenue and EPS growth is impressive, but even more impressive are estimates going forward

My general overview goes to this idea: wait for a pullback to get in. Probably the stock will come down to fill the gap at $6.38 or touch some of its ascending supports. I would buy then.

Pennant: A pennant is a small symmetrical triangle that begins wide and converges as the pattern matures (like a cone). The slope is usually neutral. Sometimes there will not be specific reaction highs and lows from which to draw the trend lines and the price action should just be contained within the converging trend lines.

Syntax-Brillian Swings to 1Q Profit
Syntax-Brillian 1st-Quarter Profit, Sales Beat Wall Street's Expectations

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- High-definition television maker Syntax-Brillian Corp. posted a fiscal first-quarter profit well above Wall Street's expectations Thursday, reversing a year-ago loss on surging sales.

For the quarter ended Sept. 30, the company earned $3.8 million, or 7 cents per share, compared with a loss of $658,000, or 2 cents per share, during the same period a year ago.

Revenue more than tripled to $87 million from last year's $27.4 million.

Analysts, on average, were expecting earnings of a penny per share on sales of $75.3 million, according to a poll by Thomson Financial.

The company's shares jumped $1.18, or 18.9 percent, to $7.44 in after-hours trading, after closing down 5 cents at $6.26 on the Nasdaq.

For the second quarter, Syntax-Brillian expects sales in the range of $160 million to $170 million, mainly from sales of LCD TVs. Consolidated revenue, including the operations of Vivitar, which the company recently acquired, is expected to range from $178 million to $190 million. Analysts are currently seeking quarterly sales of $150 million.

For the full year, Syntax-Brillian sees revenue of $490 million to $520 million, and including Vivitar, in the range of $565 million to $605 million.

This one had a strange response to earnings.
I see now that trying to let out news by these companies
is a delicate procedure that doesn't always get presented
according to plans. And then for investors not to look
at the balance sheet properly in making their investment
decisions on these companies makes me wonder
why they invest at all.
Wow...303% increase in revenue and this company goes down.

RESULTS...SURPRISE
Fiscal second-quarter net earnings of $14.8 million, or 25 cents a share. In the same quarter last year, the company posted a net loss of $1.23 million, or 4 cents a share. Revenue rose to $242.5 million from $60.2 million. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial had forecast a per-share profit of 24 cents on revenue of $241.8 million. For the fiscal third-quarter, Syntax-Brillian expects revenue of $160 million to $170 million, and for fiscal 2007, the company expects revenue of $650 million to $700 million

Nice pump today on CNBC on the money for BRLC. They had the CEO on and a few mins talking about BRLC and how their LCDs were selling out fast and the brand name Olevia has caught on with the consumers. I would jump in but there are somethings that worry me that can cause problems in the future for BRLC. Like price war cutting into profit margins and slowed demand for LCDs.

zacks report:
SYNTAX-BRILLIAN (BRLC)
Feb 13, 2007

Interestingly, earnings estimates have been moving up, which spells a buying opportunity. Over the past two months, this year's estimates have jumped 10 cents per share to 57 cents, while next year's numbers have risen 17 cents per share to 93 cents. The stock is also cheap at 9.3x next year's estimates, well below the long-term growth rate of 29.17%.

Full Analysis

Syntax-Brillian Corporation (BRLC) engages in the design, development, and distribution of high-definition televisions (HDTVs) in liquid crystal display (LCD), and liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) formats.

The company provides Olevia branded product lines, which include flat panel LCD models in diagonal sizes from 20 inches to 42 inches, and 65-inch Gen II LCoS Rear Projection HDTV for the high-volume home entertainment market; 42-inch and 47-inch high-end HDTVs for the home entertainment and home theater markets; and Gen II LCoS rear projection 65-inch HDTV for audio/video market.

BRLC took a hit despite reporting second-quarter earnings that exceeded estimates. The company came in with 25 cents per share, two cents ahead of estimates. Sales more than tripled to $242.5 million from $60.2 million. Looking ahead, however, Syntax-Brillian provided guidance below Wall Street expectations. The company forecast revenue between $650 million to $700 million for the fiscal year ending June 30 and third-quarter revenue between $160 million to $170 million.

I am extremely pleased with the performance of our team this quarter," said Vincent F. Sollitto, Jr., Chairman and CEO of Syntax-Brillian. "Revenue and earnings hit new records as sell-through of the Olevia brand at the retail level continues to exceed our expectations and we expand distribution into new national channels." Mr. Sollitto continued, "Further, the newest Olevia and Vivitar products introduced at CES were well received and we continue to enjoy excellent reviews of Olevia products."

Syntax-Brillian Rebounded From Day-Ago Plunge, Analysts Say Concerns Unfounded

NEW YORK (AP) -- Syntax-Brillian Corp. rose in early trading Thursday after analysts dismissed a day-old rumor that the company might stop key sales to a major vendor.

Shares of the Tempe, Ariz.-based company jumped 53 cents, or 11.6 percent, to $5.09, following a 16.5 percent plunge Wednesday.

The Wednesday selloff was prompted by an analyst note that said the company may stop selling its liquid crystal display high-definition televisions to Circuit City Stores Inc. The company responded by saying it remains committed to Circuit City.

On Thursday, Robert W. Baird & Co. analyst Tristan Gerra in a client note reiterated an "Outperform" rating with a $15 target price on shares, saying concerns over the company's Olevia-branded LCDs are unfounded.

The analyst said the company's LCDs outsell competitors' at Circuit City, while distribution of the Olevia product is likely to grow ahead.

"We continue to believe the distribution of Olevia TVs will continue to expand at new and existing retailers in the U.S., Asia, and Europe in the second-half of this year, as demand for the Olevia brand continues to be strong," wrote Gerra.

CIBC World Markets Corp. analyst Daniel M. Gelbtuch in a client note also said the concerns "are way, way off."

"We believe Monday's pressure was due to another competitor's suggestion that Sony's intent to sell entry-level LCD-TVs at Wal-Mart will likely damage Olevia's competitive position," wrote Gelbtuch. "We believe Sony's cost/markup structure will not compete with Olevia, nor is Wal-Mart a Syntax-Brillian customer."

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070614/syntax_brillian_out_of_the_gate.html?.v=1

--- Here is TheStreet.com take on this issue:

There seems to be a huge misunderstanding of Syntax-Brillian (BRLC - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr - Rating). Wall Street hates uncertainly and what's uncertain right now is whether it is pulling its flat-panel displays from Circuit City (CC - Cramer's Take - Stockpickr - Rating) stores.

The retailer is supposedly trying to find another flat-panel display maker, according to analysts, but Syntax-Brillian released a note later in the day that said it is fully committed to Circuit City. The stock fell 90 cents, or 16.4%, to $4.56 on these concerns. But demand is so huge for flat-panel displays that regardless of Circuit City, it probably would not affect BRLC's bottom line. This stock could pop right back to $5 on a snapback play.

BRLC Syntax-Brillian: Research reveals a huge demand backlog for Olevia TVs and ample production capacity - Brean Murray (5.14 +0.58) -Update-

Brean Murray notes that over the past two days, concerns over Circuit City (CC) phasing out Olevia TVs and Sony's (SNE) plan of selling TVs into Wal-Mart (WMT) have pressured BRLC. However, the firm's research confirmed that CC is not only continuing but also expanding orders for Olevia TVs for the remainder of 2007. Further, though they are unsure of SNE's pricing strategy for its line of TVs for WMT, their latest market comparisons reveal that SNE currently prices its TVs at nearly a 100% premium to similarly equipped Olevia TVs.

I certainly hope so ;D.  Well, I should have done a better job of buying this stock, I should have known that with friday profit taking it would close that gap.  Oh well, I think this is still a very good stock with a bright future.

In my opinion, anything under $5.5 is a major bargain. BRLC will start reverting the current negative trend this coming week. I expect a steady rise the next few months as the strongest season of the year start in July.

The low multiples have my interest and I'm watching. A retest of $4.50 and a hold of the double-bottom there could get me to pull the trigger. My biggest concern is that I've seen BRLC being pumped quite a bit in the past several weeks on various Yahoo message boards.

m2machine, Here is the info you posted about BRLC, you can copy this and repost as your own and I will delete this post.

BRLC HIGHLIGHTS

For the nine months ending March 31, 2007, GAAP net income was $21.4 million or $0.37 per share, compared to a net loss of $13.4 million or $0.35 per share in the year-ago period.

Revenue for the year-to-date period jumped 270% to $492.4 million from $133.2 million in the preceding year period.

Looking ahead for the fourth quarter, the company anticipates revenue of $190 million to $210 million, predominately from sales of LCD TVs. Six analysts have consensus revenue estimate of $182.19 million for the quarter.

For fiscal year 2007, Syntax-Brillian raised its revenue outlook to a range of $682 million to $702 million from its previous expectation of $650 million to $700 million. Six analysts have consensus revenue estimate of $678.66 million for the year.

One of BRLC's major analysts provided the following insight two weeks ago:

- Driven by strong shipments, higher ASPs and a robust gross margin, we anticipate Syntax-Brillian will handily beat current consensus 4Q 2007 revenue and EPS estimates of $192 million and $0.13, respectively. The quarter ends on June 30.

Accordingly, we are introducing our updated revenue and EPS estimates of $208 million and $0.16 for 4Q 2007 ending June 30, 2007. We are also issuing new calendar year 2007  estimates of $1.08 billion and $0.79, and calendar year 2008  estimates of $1.67 billion and $1.31.

In addition, as the company continues to accelerate its receivables collection, we project cash flows from operations will be noticeably positive in 4Q 2007. Further, our research reveals a huge demand backlog for BRLC's Olevia TVs and ample production capacity. As such, as the company deploys the cash it recently raised, we anticipate meaningful upside to our new estimates.

We reiterate BRLC as one of our top picks for 2007; our target price of $15 is based on the shares trading at less than 20x our 2007 calendar year  GAAP EPS estimate, or a modest 11-12x our calendar year EPS forecast.

The P/S ratio is well below 0.4 and the lowest compared to its peers trading at an average P/S of 2+

Six other analysts rate BRLC from "BUY" to "OUTPERFORM" with also double-digit PPS targets.

On May 30, 2007, BRLC announced that it had closed a public offering of 29.4 million shares at $5.75 for proceeds of about $143.3 million.  BRLC's cash now amounts to $2.5/share.  BRLC said it used about $20.2 million of the proceeds to pay back its debt and plans to use the rest to fund its business expansion.

Congrats to all who bought in June.

Things are looking bright with the latest revenue guidance for BRLC.

I jumped in after hours.

Syntax-Brillian Corp. (BRLC) said it raised its revenue outlook for the calendar year ending Dec. 31 to a range of $1.1 billion to $1.3 billion, up from $950 million to $1.1 billion previously.
The Tempe, Ariz.-based manufacturer of high-definition televisions cited "strong demand and the deployment of the proceeds of our public stock offering in May as well as the cash from the accounts receivable collections."
The company's fiscal year ended June 30.
Syntax-Brillian Corp. also reaffirmed expectations for revenue of $190 million to $210 million in the fourth quarter ended June 30; Wall Street's average view stands at $196 million, according to estimates compiled by Thomson Financial.
In addition, the company is projecting quarterly gross margins "within or above the top half" of the range of 15% to 17% previously forecast.
Syntax-Brillian anticipates reporting results for fiscal 2007 not later than the second week of September.
Shares of Syntax-Brillian lost 16 cents, or 2.8%, to end Friday's trading at $5.56.
Syntax-Brillian reiterated its outlook for its fiscal fourth-quarter revenue, expecting $190 million to $210 million.
The company also expects fiscal fourth-quarter gross margins to be at the high end of its 15% to 17% projection.

BRLC should go up tomorrow.  ;) 200dma and bottom of the gap may provide some resistance.

Yahoo states that 39% of the float is short.   :o

Shares Outstanding6:   62.78M
Float:                               39.35M
% Held by Insiders4:      34.94%
% Held by Institutions4:   48.60%
Shares Short (as of 12-Jun-07)3:   17.01M
Short Ratio (as of 12-Jun-07)3:              6.7
Short % of Float (as of 12-Jun-07)3:   39.00%

But I think BRLC will do well for the rest of the year with the CEO stating the demand is strong for their Olevia brand of HDTV.

Now that many Chinese are making some money they may looking  to buy these HDTVs going into the summer Olympics next year. :D

FORWARD P/E < 7.........0.4 P/S

BLOCKBUSTER QUARTER TO BE REPORTED NEXT WEEK.

GEORGE SOROS AND 43 INSTITUTIONS ARE NEW OWNERS....

ANALYSTS ESTIMATES: 260% REVENUE GROWTH 260% Y/Y...230% Q/Q...NET INCOME GROWTH 3000%+....2008 NET INCOME 83C/SHARE

7 ANALYSTS' AVERAGE PRICE TARGET: $14.4

BRLC is likely the most undervalued under $10 stock in the market today with a forward P/E of 7 and a P/S of 0.4 and growing at 200%/year

Last month BRLC upped its sales guidance to a range of $1.1 billion to $1.3 billion from its prior forecast of $950 million to $1.1 billion for CY 2007. This means that guidance for the next few quarters will be very strong

BRLC also maintained its sales forecast of $190 million to $210 million for the fiscal 4Q 2007 ended in June. Analysts predict quarterly revenue of $196.4 million and a net income of 12c/share.

Compared these results to revenues of $60M and a LOS of 25c/share in 4Q 2006

Also last month BRLC said the company collected $129.6 million from South China House of Technology. CFO Pratt said that South China now has no invoices past due.

This will boost cash flow significantly....a negative cash flow was a knock in the past and a major concern for longs and analysts.

As of the latest short count, over 50% of the float was short shares. I am sure that there was some short covering done yesterday during a terrible market and an obvious attempt to manipulate the stock.

Actually, the float might be even smaller that many think. There were 43 new institutions recently buying....George Soros recently announced BRLC ownership, and over 4M shares went to the Russell 3000 two months ago......

Hi all,
I'm new here.
I had been avg down this stock, but it keep falling down.
Felt something is not right and i think it went  down because investor lose confident on the figure which the company had post.
For rebound, maybe we had to wait untill the next quarter result, then all investor can clear all their douth.
But for one thing sure they just lauch their olevia in Singapore and the price is very competitive.
Anyone had any comment on this stock. ;)

I am not selling mine until after the 2nd quarter (the Dec quarter). I believe that the CEO purposedly set the bar lower to beat it handily and leave the shorts behind forever.

Nice to know that they started selling in Singapore. I was at a huge shopping mall in Babkok recently and I saw many olevia's at a clothing store replaying the company's offerings. The picyure quality was exceptional.

Time to get back into BRLC under $3 and ride this boat for about 2 quarters to get maximum returns.

The FOOL's perspective on BRLC's new business model makes a lot of sense. The link below if for The Fool's article on BRLC dated 11/29/2007.

China royalties will improve the botttom line while allowing BRLC to refocus its attention to the more profitable US/Europe/Latin American markets..

http://www.fool.com/investing/value/2007/11/29/syntax-brillian-is-a-hornets-nest.aspx

key portion of the article: (S-B = SYNTAX-BRILLIAN)

Fresh eyes

Sometimes, bringing a fresh pair of eyes to a company helps in seeing things more clearly. In hopes that such is the case today, here's my take on the new and improved S-B.

S-B's old business model consisted of building TVs and, in the U.S., selling them to Target (NYSE: TGT), Sears (Nasdaq: SHLD), and Circuit City, which then sold them down the line to the ultimate end users here. In China, S-B sold to a distributor called South China House of Technology (SCHOT), which in turn sold to local retailers, including Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) subsidiary Five Star Appliance. SCHOT sales constituted 48% of S-B's sales last fiscal year, making SCHOT the company's biggest customer by far.

Under the new model, U.S. distribution remains the same, but Chinese sales are undergoing a complete revamp. Instead of selling to SCHOT for resale to retailers, S-B will move to a licensing model with its "China-based distributor" -- an oblique reference to, I presume, SCHOT. S-B will license the Olevia brand name to SCHOT, which will then buy its own components and manufacture, advertise, and sell its own TVs -- paying S-B royalties for the privilege.

According to Wednesday's press release, the current quarter should see 200,000 to 210,000 units sold in China under the new arrangement, yielding between $2.75 million and $3.25 million in royalties for S-B. That works out to a royalty of between $13.75 and $15.48 per unit. In addition to the Chinese sales, S-B expects to sell another 250,000 to 275,000 units in the U.S. and other non-China countries.

Reviewing the numbers, we can see that most media outlets focused on S-B's prediction that with nearly half of its global market now moving to a royalty-based business model, "sales" in the coming quarter will range between $155 million and $175 million -- lower than analysts' predicted $303 million. This, according to the media, is bad news. But the way I look at it, it's not bad news at all. Quite the opposite.

Put aside the U.S. sales for a moment, and consider the margins that S-B will be earning in China. According to S-B's most recent 10-Q filing, "Average selling prices [ASP] for LCD televisions decreased ... to $556 per unit for the quarter." Now take the midpoint on S-B's predicted per-unit royalty ($14.61), and divide it by this ASP. What you get is about a 2.6% per-unit royalty. Royalties, traditionally being a high-margin revenue stream, could eventually help boost the company's margins.

Meanwhile, having freed itself from the day-to-day oversight of Chinese sales, management will be able to focus on its U.S. strategy. And considering the inroads Vizio has been making here (remember Vizio? This was a song about Vizio), the U.S. seems to be where management's attention is most needed.

Foolish takeaway

Estimates, schmeshtimates. What's important here is that S-B is focusing its attention where it's needed -- the U.S. -- while putting its China sales on a more profitable autopilot. That's good news for shareholders. Yesterday's sell-off was overdone.
