Market Pulse: N.A. Scientific: China OKs sale of cancer treatment
Tuesday September 20, 2:20 pm ET
By Gabriel Madway

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- North American Scientific Inc. said Tuesday that China's food and drug administration has granted its NOMOS radiation oncology division approval to sell Peacock, a serial tomotherapy system designed to treat various types of cancer with intensity modulated radiation therapy. The Chatsworth, Calif.-based company expects that sales in China could begin by the end of October.

I expect a surge as it goes above $4 later in the aft. as inst, $ will increase.

----NASI----

1)NASI just announced approval for its cancer therapy in the biggest most polluted cancer stricken country on Earth- China.

2) China health and technology stocks have been one of the hottest sectors in last few years- e.g. SINA, NTES, AOB.

3) NASI was forecasting cash flow neutral results for this quarter BEFORE China approval--NASI will now be CASH FLOW POSITIVE.

4) 70% of 12 million NASI float owned by Institutions and insiders, leaving "available" float of only 3.6 million.

5) NASI was $10 as recently as March 2004, and is now in FAR BETTER condition than it was then.

Revenues (Million $)
     2005 2004 2003 2002 2001 2000
1Q  8.16 3.36 5.14 4.94 4.32 4.00
2Q  9.14  3.48 2.90 4.96 5.06 4.44

Yr.  24.74 14.68 20.78 19.34 17.49

It took a nice jump from 2.5 to 4 and we wait for the sellers.  This is just a small position in my profile, but hope to see great news to come from this china agreement. As you can see from the above --- revenue is in a good upward trend.

I think there will continue to be profit takers, but once news of sells is announced, this one will hopefully show up on the 3stocks.-  that would be nice :)

Ya, i put in a market order the day it shot to 3.50 so that was just freaking great!!! but i did not  get rid of it, b/c there is just no way this is not going to see higher numbers in the future.  just depends on 1 month or 4.  But, i knew this going in, and I bought it on my sharebuilder as a large lump sum.  now that it is in its 2's sharebuilder allows me to make tue day deposits into different stocks, and NASI is one of them - so until the news comes out i will be buying every tue no matter what the stock price is.

I bought NASI at 2.82.

Applause to Puenthouse, tugsinav and Stocks2Watch2 for their work on fundamentals.

NASI is working on a "W" bottom.  It broke out above the middle of the "W" (3.62) on the September 21 gap day, and now has come down for five days in a row and has filled the top of the gap area.  This morning, it went down to a low of 2.68, then rallied back above unchanged, which I liked, so I bought it.

The volume on the big up day was over 12 million.  Today, it's only 160,000, so it's a low volume pullback to the gap.  I like that.

The 50-day Moving Average (green line) and the 200DMA (red line) are inverted, so this might take some time for them to right themselves, techinically.  The 50 should be above the 200.

For the target on the chart, I always use the most conservative number, so I used the bottom of the right leg of the "W" (1.90) rather than the bottom of the left leg (1.85).

Good luck to those long.  I like the story, and the chart's got a chance.

NASI currently is BID 2.78...ASK 2.82

Sold NASI at 3.02.  Gain: 7%.

Could run up as Stocks2Watch2 suggests (applause for the news posts today), but I sold at the Kijun-Sen on the chart (3.015).  I didn't have a particularly good entry at 2.82, so I took profits on today's 20%+ rally, and will look to re-enter lower, if possible.

Keeping an eye on NASI.  I'm surprised that the "China" play you guys mentioned has not caused this stock to go up recently.  This stock also trades below book and at under 2X sales. I suppose this is because it's net income is decreasing year over year.   Does anyone have the this story?

I still like it, as long as it doesn't bust my 2.37 stop!   >:D

We have a Falling Wedge breakout today.  It isn't the greatest pattern in the world, but we also broke above the recent high of 2.80.  Looks constructive.  That's the first "higher high" we've had since the September 21 top.  I like that.  We're there right now.

S2W2,

I'm still in NASI with a gain of 8.6% on the first two trades, but I'm close to getting stopped out here below 2.37, for about a breakeven on the three trades.

Much Ado About Nothing.  ;D

Based on the chart now, it looks like there's a good chance that NASI is going down to the lower rail, which is about 2.21, but I'll honor my stop and sell it if it closes below 2.37.  I'll wait to see the actual close and sell tomorrow morning if I'm stopped out.  It's so thinly traded (73,303 today), it tends to pop or drop at the close.

On my last trade, NASI closed at the last minute right on my 2.44 stop, then it rallied 10% over the next two days.

NASI currently is BID 2.33...ASK 2.35.  >:(

Good luck if you still have this one, and thanks for your help.

I like to see volume dry up on a pullback, but NASI went from 12,000,000 shares traded on September 21 to a trickle of a few thousand shares.  No interest.

Actually, that can be a real good thing if NASI can bounce off that lower rail on the chart I posted yesterday, then take out the top of the channel.

NASI bounced right near that rail yesterday; the low was 2.21.  The Bullish Engulfing candle yesterday is nice, so both of those look good, but terrible volume: only 58,000 shares.  :(

Watch the top of this channel, S2W2.  It needs to break out above that.  The top of the channel comes in today at 2.766.  Subtract 0.009 each day.  I hate to get back in this one since it's so illiquid, but if volume comes in, I might play it.

For the fourth time...   :( (We need an "Exhausted" face on the toolbar).  ;)

North American Scientific Reports Record Revenues of $32.2 Million for Fiscal 2005
1/9/2006 4:05et
CHATSWORTH, Calif., Jan 09, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- North American Scientific, Inc. (NASI):

-- Company Records $40.2 Million Impairment Charge For NOMOS Goodwill And Intangible Assets

-- Company Ships Serial Tomotherapy Products to China

North American Scientific, Inc. (NASI) today announced financial results for its fourth quarter and fiscal year ended October 31, 2005.

"Fiscal year 2005 was very challenging for our Company as we integrated NOMOS and realigned our organization to capitalize on future growth opportunities," said L. Michael Cutrer, President and CEO. "Due to delays in new product introductions and international registrations, the fourth quarter results were disappointing, but we remain confident that our new products and new markets will allow us to grow our revenue base.

"During the fiscal fourth quarter, we introduced our new serial tomotherapy advanced treatment solution, nomosSTAT(TM), which integrates our core serial tomotherapy delivery products with user interface controls both inside and outside the treatment room," continued Mr. Cutrer. "Interest in this affordable, new system appears to be growing, and we anticipate sales later in the year following the 510(k) approval from the Food and Drug Administration.

"In addition, we expect to continue our international expansion in Europe and Asia," Mr. Cutrer continued. "During our fiscal fourth quarter, we received approval from the People's Republic of China State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) to sell our PEACOCK(R) product, a serial tomotherapy system designed for the treatment of various types of cancer with intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). We shipped and delivered our first order following SFDA approval in our fiscal 2006 first quarter, and are pleased with the growth opportunities that this region represents. We are also pleased with improvement in brachytherapy sales in the second half of fiscal 2005, and look forward to new product introductions early in fiscal 2006. While last year was challenging, we believe we are poised for growth in 2006 and we are excited about our opportunities both domestically and internationally."

(NASI)
Opens Higher Following First
Procedure w/ClearPath-HDR
Shares of North American Scientific, Inc. (NASI) got an opening
boost in Friday's session after it announced the use of its
ClearPath-HDR device in a patient for the first time. For use in
Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation (APBI) treatment plans,
ClearPath-HDR combines the ease-of-use benefits of balloon brachytherapy
products with the customized dose planning benefits of the multi-catheter
brachytherapy procedure into one device. This combination also allows doctors to take advantage
of a shorter five-day APBI treatment plan, compared with the six to eight weeks required for
external beam treatment plans. In addition, ClearPath is implanted through a single incision and
is designed to minimize radiation exposure of nearby healthy tissue. The Company estimates that
the ClearPath systems will serve an addressable market of more than $500 million.
"This first human clinical experience with ClearPath-HDR is a significant milestone," said John
B. Rush, President and Chief Executive Officer of North American Scientific. "We believe our
ClearPath technology is favorably distinguished from other products on the market, including balloon
brachytherapy, interstitial catheters and external beam radiation due to its important benefits
to the patient and physician. ClearPath can make APBI a possibility for more patients that were
previously not considered good candidates for treatment with balloon brachytherapy products
due to breast size and/or tumor location. With its ease-of-use, functionality and few treatment
limiting requirements we believe ClearPath has the potential to encourage the use of APBI, a less

The new ClearPath-HDR device for treatment of breast cancer is, like its competitors, designed to
connect to a source of high-dose-rate radiation which is administered in a specially shielded room
in a hospital. It faces competition from Cytyc Corp. (CYTC), SenoRx, Inc. (SENO) and Cianna
Medical. The MammoSite RTS device from Cytyc, currently the market leader, uses a balloon and
catheter system to place the radiation source directly into the post-lumpectomy cavity. A device
developed by SenoRx also uses a balloon and catheter system to deliver the radiation dose. The
SAVI device manufactured by Cianna Medical does not use a balloon and is comprised of an
expandable bundle of catheters.
The primary competitors in the brachytherapy seed business include: Nycomed Amersham PLC
(through its control of Oncura), C.R Bard, Inc. (BCR), and Theragenics Corporation (TGX). Several
additional companies currently sell brachytherapy seeds as well. SurTRAK strands and
needles are subject to competition from a number of companies, including Worldwide Medical
Technologies, Inc.
