NanoViricides, Inc. to Tackle Asian Bird Flu
Monday October 3, 1:19 pm ET
WEST HAVEN, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 2005--NanoViricides, Inc. (Pink Sheets:NNVC - News), today announced that it is moving rapidly forward with its strategy for combating Avian Flu. "If our FluCide-I influenza drug meets the initial expectations, we can modify it very quickly to develop a nanoviricide against the avian flu," explained Dr. Diwan, President, "We simply reset the nanoviricide's target to H5N1, the bird flu virus!" The Company has scheduled high-level meetings in December with Vietnam's senior government officials and scientists regarding avian flu. "This invitation by the Vietnamese government gives us an enormous advantage over most other companies, including large cap biotech firms," said the CEO, Eugene Seymour, MD, MPH. The Company anticipates having preclinical data available to share on its Flucide-I influenza (nanoviricide) drug and considers this a unique opportunity to access the wealth of information available in Vietnam on bird flu.
Appluad. I will keep on close watch. Bird Flu is the topic of the day.
This one will break out soon! It is a pure tech play..make that biotech.

Breakout......
We're having a retracement on lowered volume so thats a good thing. Todays close was at .38 which is the beginning of the gap open. So the gap hasnt necessarily been broke yet. A close below .38 would be the bearish signal. So thankfully the bulls held up today and sustained enough strength to not fill the gap. Hopefully we will see another rally tomorrow.

Today a case of the Bird flu showed up in Russia, tomorrow could be a big day as well as many more big days to come with likely to inevitable spread of the bird flu virus for the bird flu stocks. Hopefully one of these companies companies finds a reliable vaccine so they can save millions of lives, as well as make us some money :)
Heres the PR:
Bird flu detected in birds near Moscow
Deadly strain also found in second location in Romania
LONDON (MarketWatch) -- The bird flu virus has spread to western Russia, with the deadly H5N1 strain reportedly detected in initial tests in the Tula region south of Moscow, where hundreds of birds have died.
The Russian daily Vremya reported that 247 chickens, geese and ducks on a farm in the Russian village of Yandovka had died due to a severe viral infection between Friday and Monday, according to a report on The Wall Street Journal Web site.
The case, if confirmed, would be the first in European Russia, the Journal reported. The disease had been registered in six regions of Siberia and the Urals region.
And the virus has also been detected in a second location in Romania, the BBC reported on its Web site.
Samples from the village of Maliuc tested positive for the virus. It follows an outbreak in Ceamurlia de Jos, also in Romania's Danube delta.
The spread comes as the European Union begins a two-day exercise to test readiness to deal with a major health crisis, the BBC reported. The E.U. said the exercise was planned 18 months ago, long before the current outbreak of bird flu.
At least 60 people in Asia have died after contracting flu from birds infected by H5N1, but scientists say the disease does not appear able to spread between humans.
The Journal report also said China has confirmed a fresh outbreak of avian influenza in birds in the northern province of Inner Mongolia. Tests confirmed the outbreak at a rare-bird farm in the village of Tengjiaying, near the province's capital of Hohhot northwest of Beijing, was the deadly H5N1 strain, state-run news media reported.
The outbreak has been controlled and hasn't spread to any new locations, the reports by China Central Television and the Xinhua News Agency said

Also here is the artical that Nanoviricides was featured in the Nanobiotech News Report on 10/12/05. A very intersting read.
By Steve Lewis
NanoViricides, Inc. (Pink Sheets:NNVC.PK),
which is about to begin animal trials of its FluCide-
I influenza drug, plans to rapidly modify the drug
to develop a nanoviricide against the Avian flu.
The company's key intellectual property is a nanomaterial
that contains an encapsulated active pharmaceutical
ingredient and targets it to a specific
type of virus.
The Avian flu so far has been found typically
in poultry throughout Asia. However, the continued
increase in outbreaks has led to mounting
global alarm for the potential spread of a pandemic
influenza outbreak among humans. As of
yesterday, the World Health Organization
reported 117 confirmed cases of Avian flu and 60
deaths in Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia.
The flu has the capability of killing one in
every two people it infects.
The FluCide-I studies will be conducted "in a
world-renowned institution in Boston," says Anil
W. Diwan, PhD, president of Westhaven, CT-based
NanoViricides. They are scheduled to start this
week, with the first phase slated to last four to six
weeks. "Hopefully, we will have sufficient success
that tells us what changes need to be made, and by
the second or third time around we'll be there,"
says Diwan. "Then, we simply reset the nanoviricide's
target to H5N1, the bird flu virus.
"We want to create the first viricide," he continues.
"We believe we have it, but we won't be
sure until we go through animal and human trials.
Nevertheless, we are optimistic." Diwan notes that
previous work in the lab has yielded "Certain
kinds of proof of principal."
Viricides differ significantly from vaccines,
Diwan stresses. "If the therapeutic vaccines are like
putting the garbage out to the curbside, FluCide is
like throwing wastes into the toilet wherein they
are automatically washed out to treatment centers,
digested to safe materials, and then disposed of
into general bodies of water," he explains. "This is
a very significant difference."
A viricide is a specially designed, flexible,
nanomaterial that contains an encapsulated active
pharmaceutical ingredient and targets it to a specific
type of virus, like a guided missile.
A short step to H5N1?
Diwan says that if the FluCide-I trials are successful,
it will not be that difficult to create a vaccine
for Avian flu. "FluCide-I is based on targeting a certain
virus surface protein at a site that is known to be
substantially conserved across all types and strains
of influenza, including A, B, C types, as well as subtypes
including H2N1 and H5N1," he explains.
"Thus FluCide-I, as is, should have substantial effectiveness
against H5N1, though it is not necessarily
the best nanoviricide we can make against H5N1.
That will be the goal of AviFluCide-I."
While FluCide-I shares certain features with
Roche's oseltamivir (TamiFlu) and GlaxoSmithKline's
zanamivir (Relenza), it also has some advantages,
says Diwan. "Unlike zanamivir and
oseltamivir, drugs which partially block the virus
exit from cells after it has already made thousands
of copies in each cell, our approach is to simply
attack the virus particle itself, before it infects and
has a chance to replicate," he says.
Certain vaccines, such as the usual influenza
vaccine, are not therapeutic; rather, they are
intended to elicit the body's immune response
ahead of time so that antibodies to the virus will be
created, notes Diwan.
Another vaccine approach is that of giving to
an already infected patient certain portions of the
virus, modified with immune activators, which are
supposed to cause the body's immune system to
create a stronger defensive response.
"Most viruses have various mechanisms that
suppress the body's immune response - the
NanoViricides developing therapeutic,
preventive vaccine for Avian flu
immune activators make sure that it is activated,"
Diwan explains. A related approach, which is very
old, is to actually recover antibodies from another
infected patient and infuse them into a given
infected patient, to bolster the level of antibodies
(gamma globulin therapy). "All of these therapies
depend upon the body's immune system to be in a
very good state, and require the body's immune
system cells to participate in clearing up the infection.
The antibodies only 'tag' the virus to identify
it to the defense system," he notes.
"The public literature routinely confuses these
together, however, the differences are vast," he
continues. "FluCide is a fully contained 'militarystyle'
machine; it does not require the body's
immune system to participate at all. Where vaccines
fail routinely, we believe nanoviricides can
still be designed to work."
FluCide is expected to work via multiple concerted
mechanisms, he adds. "We believe that it
first binds to the virus particle like a Velcro tape,
rather than through a single point attachment like
other influenza drugs," Diwan says. "We believe
that this causes FluCide to completely envelop and
engulf the virus particle, so that it can no longer
infect a cell. FluCide then fuses with the virus coat,
thereby destabilizing the virus particle and forcing
it to fall apart, in a truly military-like approach."
Since H5N1 is a systemic infection, NanoViricides
is developing a two-pronged approach: prophylaxis
and treatment. A bronchial aerosol will be
developed that will work primarily to protect people
who may be at risk of exposure, and an injectable
will be made to treat patients who already have an
infection. A higher strength bronchial aerosol will
also be made available to treat patients.
How soon?
It's difficult to say how soon NanoViricides
would be able to develop the Avian flu vaccine, but
Diwan is confident it will be much faster than the
typical four to six years required for fast-track
development. "When we begin our preclinical
studies, we will be evaluating FluCide-I in mice
infected with normal flu, and also AviFluCide-I at
the same time, if possible," he says.
In addition, the company has scheduled highlevel
meetings in December with Vietnam's senior
government officials and scientists regarding
Avian flu. "This invitation by the Vietnamese government
gives us an enormous advantage over
most other companies, including large cap biotech
firms," says NanoViricides CEO, Eugene Seymour,
MD, MPH. "The company anticipates having preclinical
data available to share on its Flucide-I
influenza drug, and considers this a unique
opportunity to access the wealth of information
available in Vietnam on bird flu."
"Vietnam wants to make sure it is safe in animals
and humans, and then start using it; that
will only be clear after conversations with them,"
says Diwan. "These things are strongly governed
by the World Health Organization, but if the
world really needs it, we will be ready. We will
make it available if someone wants it, with the
stipulation that it has not gone through the full
regulatory processes. This has been done before."
Diwan says he believes that the FluCide nanoviricide
will be far more effective than TamiFlu, for
both prophylaxis and treatment.
A potential bonanza
It is clear that if any one company were to
develop a highly efficacious vaccine against Avian
flu, the financial rewards could be enormous.
"Just as penicillin brought on a major revolution
in antibiotics, the first viricide will create a
similar revolution," Diwan predicts. "Just imagine;
a vaccine that attacks and destroys the virus
particle itself."
NanoViricides went public earlier this year
when it was acquired by Miami-based EDot.com,
Inc. (See NanoBiotech News, July 13, 2005, p. 1.) The
company has a full license to TheraCour technologies
for developing nanotechnology-based targeted
anti-viral therapeutics.

NNVC's price action made a bounce of an ascending trendline making it 3 touches for a confirmed trend. Also its low of the retracement to .30 acted as prior support from early july. Hopefully we will see some higher prices in the near future so i can make my money back >:D and then some ;D . I still have no response from IR about the progress of the companies OTCBB approval.

NNVC the next GOOG!! Quite possible. I hear it is THE nanomedicine company. There was a lot of buying today based on a reco from a paid service! I think OTCBB may be round the corner!
Man i've been waiting for another day like this to come Grin . Im finally profitable on this trade again, well for now at least Wink . There was another gap open today starting at .35, Im thinking we won't see it drop back down that point for a while now. But one thing i would like to see is a break of that descending trend line thats following the volume down. Increased price action with falling volume usually means a trend is running out of steam. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Today's price action is gonna bring attention back to trading interest. How about another rally tomorrow breaking that descending line on volume eh?
Good luck everyone who is holding.

'G' pattern in the making for NNVC. If it crosses 60 cents and reaches 65, then it should reach a buck!

NanoViricides Has Begun Preclinical Studies For Their First Anti-Viral Drug Targeted Against Bird Flu; Studies Are Being Conducted at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a Teaching Hospital of Harvard Medical School
WEST HAVEN, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 31, 2005--
NanoViricides, Inc. (Pink Sheets:NNVC), today announced
that it has commenced preclinical studies for its anti-viral drug
FluCide-I(TM). The studies are being conducted at the Beth Israel
Deaconess Medical Center, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical
School, under the direction of Dr. Krishna Menon. Dr. Menon, the
Company's Chief Regulatory Officer, explained that nanoviricides are
complex materials. "We have started working on the basic safety of the
polymer under a maximum tolerated dose protocol in mice. In the second
part we will study the ligands that target FluCide-I(TM) to H5N1 and
common influenza viruses. Thereafter, we will study the efficacy of
FluCide-I(TM) itself against H5N1 and common influenza."
Dr. Anil Diwan, President, explained that, "if successful, the
relevance of nanoviricides can be compared to the discovery of
Penicillin, the very first bactericide. Prior to antibiotics,
bacterial infections were treated with patient isolation, chicken soup
and Vitamin C. Current anti-viral medicines can at best only partially
inhibit the virus from multiplying in the human body. Although we
cannot make claims of certainty yet, after we get good results from
these studies we will be able to say that we have developed a true
virus killer."
The Company is encouraged by the recent statements from high level
international officials and health ministers of different countries
concerning the urgency of developing effective vaccines and treatments
and believes that a rapid regulatory approval of FluCide-I(TM), is
possible should these studies be successful.

NanoViricides Collaborates with Vietnam Government to Develop Drug To Treat Bird Flu Virus
Monday January 9, 8:00 am ET
Company to receive H5N1 (Avian Flu) biologics from Vietnam
WEST HAVEN, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 9, 2006--NanoViricides, Inc. (Pink Sheets: NNVC - News) announced today the results of the company's recent trip to Vietnam.
Company officials met with senior officials in the Ministry of Health which resulted in the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with governmental agencies responsible for the prevention and treatment of the H5N1 virus. The MOU calls for the government to supply biological materials to Nanoviricides, Inc., which are needed to rapidly develop a drug treatment for avian flu (AviFluCide-I(TM)). The Company believes that other than the US Centers for Disease Control and an international organization based in Europe, no other government or company has been granted access to certain of these biologics.
"Our approach is virus-specific therapy. Having unique access to the H5N1 virus enables us to develop drugs that act directly against this particular virus, whereas other companies are developing drugs against common influenza virus and hoping that some of them may also work against H5N1," said Dr. Anil Diwan, President of Nanoviricides.
Terms of the MOU also call for the collaborative development of a treatment for rabies, a generally fatal disease. The MOU allows these governmental agencies to have an exclusive license to use these drugs for the Vietnamese market.
Eugene Seymour, MD, MPH, CEO of Nanoviricides, Inc., says, "The MOU with Vietnam is a landmark agreement. It will enable Nanoviricides, Inc. to pursue its goal of having AviFluCide-I(TM) tested in overseas facilities, because the company now has access to the current H5N1 strain of the virus. Our operational plan calls for testing to be completed in the next twelve weeks." Dr. Seymour added, "Our system is also perfectly suited to deal with certain potential bioweapon viruses such as Ebola and Marburg. To our knowledge, we have a major head start in the area of targeted anti-viral therapies.
Other Company news:
The Company has issued a "stop transfer" on approximately 3.8 million shares and options held by a former officer and the individuals involved with the "shell company" Edotcom.com, prior to its merger with NanoViricides. The Company will be seeking official and judicial relief as well as seek monetary damages for the harm caused to the Company. The Company will update its shareholders in a separate press release on this matter to be released within the coming days. These actions will help the Company complete its audit and become a reporting company. It is management's goal to meet the requirements necessary to be listed on a major exchange.

A message that I have service for on NNVC
Another strong day from NanoViricides (Pink Sheets: NNVC) , which added 45% on heavy volume of 3.5 million shares. Months back in Sleuth ("Two Tales of One Company," Sept. 6, 2005), I talked about anchoring, one of the many mistakes we as human beings -- and investors -- make consistently:
"We anchor ourselves to short-cut problem-solving, looking upon new information as a piece of the puzzle of what we already 'know,' rather than reanalyzing the problem in its new entirety."
At its most basic, as I've written in the past, all investment decisions are bets. Thus, the question is: Would I bet $2.13 -- the current price -- on this company, if I were "reanalyzing the problem in its new entirety" -- i.e., looking at it -- and the people behind it -- with fresh eyes, as if for the very first time. Well, I did that, and if I'm to be completely honest -- and can somehow put aside its robust performance thus far -- the fact is I would pay $2.13 for this stock. I might regret not having found it earlier, but at a couple, three dollars, it would be an easy bet for me.
If I'm to be completely fair in taking a stab at some kind of initial price target for NNVC, and base that target on a comparison to BioCryst, I really should back out BioCryst's recent deal with Roche, which is probably worth $150 million or so of its market cap. The resultant adjusted market value would be in the neighborhood of $300-320 million. For NanoViricides, that would mean a share price of $3-3.20. It's at that point that I might call NNVC a "hold" instead of a "buy."
It just keeps moving on.....

NanoViricides, Inc. Achieves Broad Success in Initial FluCide-I(TM) Anti-Influenza Studies
Monday March 20, 7:30 am ET
Company Says That Nanoviricides(TM) is Now a Proven Platform To Attack Bird Flu
WEST HAVEN, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 20, 2006--NanoViricides, Inc. (Pink Sheets:NNVC - News), today announced it has received additional results from its FluCide-I(TM) efficacy studies performed at a major US research facility. On the basis of these data, Dr. Krishna Menon, the Company's Chief Regulatory Officer, said that the drug candidate tested was worthy of filing an Investigational New Drug Application (INDA) with the FDA. "The results were so positive that with an appropriate dosage protocol, it may be possible to save human lives even in bird flu cases using this test nanoviricide itself," suggested Dr. Menon.
According to the company's President, Dr. Anil Diwan, "The study involved our nanomicelle to which a broad-spectrum, anti-influenza test ligand (virus targeting molecule) was attached. This combination of a micelle and ligand is called a nanoviricide(TM). While the objective of the study was to prove that the core technology worked, the results clearly exceeded our expectations. We feel that we have in development the world's best anti-influenza drug in our hands!"
In a Fast Protocol study, mice were infected with high levels of a human influenza virus. These levels resulted in an untreated survival period of only seven (7) days. A sub-group of these mice were treated with the test nanoviricide 24 hours after infection. The survival time of treated mice was increased significantly at relatively low and safe dosage levels. The safety of the dosage used was confirmed by gross histology as well as microscopic examination of a number of organs and tissues. These results suggest that the dosage can be increased several fold without significant adverse effects and that these higher dosage levels of our nanoviricide(TM) may already be capable of saving human lives in H5N1 bird flu cases.
"We can now say that the nanoviricide is a proven platform," stated Dr. Eugene Seymour, the company's CEO, "and believe that we can take any enveloped virus and attack it by attaching the right ligand (virus targeting molecule) to the nanomicelle. For instance, we can attack multiple subtypes of influenza by using a broad-spectrum ligand, as we have recently proven, or we can attack a specific virus subtype, such as Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and H5N1, with precise ligands that are intended for greater efficacy and specificity." Dr. Seymour also stated that "although the possible extent of any future bird flu pandemic is not at all clear, emergency preparedness purchases by agencies worldwide have been in several billions of dollars. More importantly, the market for a true targeted anti-viral for human influenza is enormous considering the tens of millions of cases diagnosed just in the US and Western Europe alone. Tens of thousands of people die of human influenza year after year."
The truly unique aspect of the technology is that once a drug to attack one virus is created, developing a new drug for another virus involves only changing the targeting molecule, not necessarily the underlying nanomicelle. This novel feature enables us to either respond to a mutating virus or else go after a completely new virus in a relatively short period of time. The Company is currently developing drugs against avian flu (H5N1), emerging highly pathogenic avian influenza threats (HPAI such as H9N2), common influenza, and rabies. The Company plans to develop additional drugs against HIV and Hepatitis C in the near future. "Our goal is to file two INDAs with the FDA within the next 12-18 months," said Dr. Seymour.
