STEM should breakout and head much higher .. this is a decent swing trade
Hi Guys,
This stock has been down for 3 days in a row and yesterday it gapped up with the increase in volume. It also has broken out the 1st resistance, which is 4.24.
Do you think it is at uptrend now? Please advise buy setup if any....many thanks in advance.
STEM group is good when the momentum traders are falling out for it. You can make more money on ASTM then on STEM or GERN. However, if there is any news about any in the group, the whole 'speculative' group moves. You can put CCEL along with ASTM, STEM and GERN on your watch list.
STEM and ASTM are both good plays right now. They go hand in hand.
With all the talks in Washington and state governments actually begin to dole out money for the industry.

By the way, I'm betting on Arlen Specter to sway enough of his cold-blooded Republican colleagues to override this first ever veto by Bush, the most anti-life President in history.

It was a good close.

Any buyout rumor going on? It just ain't slowing down.

That dump and then the level 2 window almost halted my computer. Couldn't find any bad news. Hope it was just good ol' profit-taking...

GERN, STEM, ASTM, CBAI.
Watch the stem cell stocks, the Senate majority leader has changed gears and now says he's for financing more stem cell research .
Bill Frist is an asshole. But I thank him for his flip-flop anyway.

Will Congress get the super majority to override Bush's first veto ever? No one can say for sure yet. But the polls suggest a favorable outcome.

GOP leader says he'll back stem cell bill
Pro-life surgeon breaks with Bush on research financing
- Sheryl Gay Stolberg, New York Times
Friday, July 29, 2005
Washington -- In a break with President Bush, the Senate Republican leader, Bill Frist, has decided to support a bill to expand federal financing for embryonic stem cell research -- a move that could push it closer to passage and force a confrontation with the White House, which is threatening to veto the measure.
Frist, a heart-lung transplant surgeon who said last month that he did not support expanding financing "at this juncture," is expected to announce his decision this morning in a Senate speech. In it, he says that while he has reservations about altering Bush's 4-year-old policy, which placed strict limits on taxpayer funding for the work, he supports the bill nonetheless.
'Policy should be modified'
"While human embryonic stem cell research is still at a very early stage, the limitations put in place in 2001 will, over time, slow our ability to bring potential new treatments for certain diseases," Frist says, according to a text of the speech provided by his office. "Therefore, I believe the president's policy should be modified."
Frist's decision will undoubtedly change the political landscape in the debate over embryonic stem cell research, one of the thorniest moral issues to come before the Congress.
The stem cell bill has passed the House but is stalled in the Senate, where competing measures are also under consideration. Because Frist's colleagues look to him for advice on medical matters, his support for the bill could break the Senate logjam. It could also give undecided Republicans political license to back the legislation, which is already close to having the 60 Senate votes it needs to defeat a filibuster aimed at blocking it.
But the move could also hinder Frist's own political prospects. The senator is widely considered a potential candidate for the presidency in 2008, and supporting an expansion of the policy will put him at odds not only with the White House but also with Christian conservatives, whose support he will need in the race for the Republican nomination.
"I am pro-life," Frist says in the speech, arguing that he can reconcile his support for the science with his own Christian faith. "I believe human life begins at conception." But at the same time, he says, "I also believe that embryonic stem cell research should be encouraged and supported."
Despite Frist's speech, the issue of embryonic stem cell research will not come to the Senate before September, because proponents of the various measures have not been able to agree on when and how to bring them up for consideration. But Frist says he will continue to work to bring up all the bills so senators can have a "serious and thoughtful debate."
Genetic building blocks
Human embryonic stem cells are considered by scientists to be the building blocks of a new field of regenerative medicine. The cells, extracted from human embryos, have the potential to grow into any type of tissue in the body, and advocates for patients believe they hold the potential for treatments and cures for a range of diseases, from juvenile diabetes to Alzheimer's.
But the cells cannot be obtained without destroying human embryos, which opponents of the research say is tantamount to murder.
"An embryo is nascent human life," Frist says in his speech. "It's genetically distinct. And it's biologically human. It's living. This position is consistent with my faith. But, to me, it isn't just a matter of faith. It's a fact of science."
On Aug. 9, 2001, in the first prime-time speech of his presidency, Bush struck a compromise: He said the federal government would pay only for research on stem cell colonies, or lines, created by that date, so that the work would involve only those embryos "where the life or death decision has already been made."
The House-passed bill would expand that policy by allowing research on stem cell lines extracted from frozen embryos left over from fertility treatments that would otherwise be discarded. Its chief Republican sponsor in the House, Rep. Mike Castle of Delaware, has said he believes the bill meets the president's guidelines, because the couples creating the embryos have made the decision to destroy them.
In his speech, Frist seems to adopt that line of reasoning, harking back to a set of principles he articulated in July 2001, before the president made his announcement, in which he proposed restricting the number of stem cell lines without a specific cutoff date. At the time, he said the government should pay for research only on those embryos "that would otherwise be discarded."
When Bush made his announcement, it was widely believed that as many as 78 stem cell lines would be eligible for federal funding. "That has proven not to be the case," Frist wrote. "Today, only 22 lines are eligible. Moreover, those lines unexpectedly, after several generations, are starting to become less stable."

First successful clone of a dog sends STEM flying at the end of the day with volume. Maybe a gapper tomorrow. Scientists say a dog is the most difficult animal to clone. Good luck guys!
anyone still in this?
I just did a day trade. I don't know if I should stay in it overnight...so I sold.
In at 3.77$, tomorrow should be good as Bush will officially announce on tv more money for stam cell research or something like that?! :)

STEM CHART ANALYSIS
It's been awhile since the last post in this thread so it's time to refresh it. >:D
STEM hit it's high back in August 2005 (6.58) and since then it's been sliding down all the way to 3.4 in December where it found the bottom (RSI shows oversold territory).
Looking at the chart I see a triangle formed with higher lows and lower highs with narrowing range. MACD is turning positive and RSI has plenty of room for a nice breakout.
The main ingredient we need here is volume. When volume comes in I expect a natural upside break out of the current range with 200 day MA resistance and after that the old high.
I also expect ASTM news will help STEM like it did in the past.
This is all my humble opinion and everybody is invited to give different opinions.
STEM either broke or is breaking out of a symetrical triangle....
STEM definetly broke out....high volume backing it up. Anyone else in on this one?

Friday's closing chart....... "Happy New Year" !
Shorted STEM yesterday, I'm playing this one as a 'sell the news' type of trade.
It went up back so fast on the prospects of yesterday's house vote on the stem cell bill and its deemed for a good drop.
The bill was passed but not with the 2/3 majority vote needed to override Bush's impending veto.
Looking to cover between 2.90 and 2.80.
Just covered 2.84....took longer than I thought.
Wait for the next pullback for entry.
