I have shares in MCZ bought it back in summer. was given an alert that this will be a good Christmas time holiday play. I use a trading system I call MOM/MA and I use 28 days for the MA. Yesterday it gave me the buy signal and even though their isn't no recent news other than earnings that was on Nov. 3rd I suspect that it might be the reason and with holiday's around the corner this might be the beginning of their first run up before Christmas.
Here's profile and recent chart. I use the MACD box below chart for my buy signals. Using 28 days for my MA when black line goes sbove the the blue line that is my buy signal. But you have to watch this stock. Over the summer I have watched it many times go in the .80 range and drop back to the .60 range. So this might be a fake run up for now. But it's a sign of what's to come.

I don't know much about TA, but this looks like it may be ready for another leg upward.

I have played MCZ more than once for the Christmas holiday play. This stock is in bullish upward trend. It just crossed ove the MACD centerline. They are estimating in April when earings come out it will be @1.80. It will steadly go up till then with maybe a few pull backs. The closer it gets to Christmas the higher it will go then it will probably pull back till it gets closer to earings. I bought shares back when they were @1.00. Today they are in th 90's so i'm almost in positive territory again and I will sell mine @1.50 for a 50% gain. That is my trading plan. If you get in it depends on how long you want to wait to seek the gain you want.
MCZ is going on my watchlist, coming off a "W" bottom and consolidating in a bullish pennant.
p.s. la-onda, can you edit your initial post so that instead of "VLTR & MCZ" it just says "MCZ"? Seems this thread is mostly about MCZ.

TA expert, please help on MCZ.
Just my opinoin
This stock will move up slow. It's a Christmas Holiday play stock and the big payday will be when it gets closer to earnings sometime around March or April and should be around 1.80 or higher by then. Look at how the volume is beginning to pick up even though the price goes up a little and then stabilizes for a while but if you notice each time price goes up the volume increases and doesn't drop back down to much just like the price. Investors are grabbing the shares before the earnings date now because once their is a hint about how much they are generating from the holidays this stock will begin to climb higher than it is now.
As I said this is just my own opinoin, it may even be after Christmas before the price will begin to show the holiday results. The TA you read was from Nasdaq stock consultant that wasn't me I'm far from being a TA expert this is one game I think you will never learn it all and you will always learn something new
Goodluck trading :)

Hot on the heels of its recent success, Gametrak: Real World Golf in the UK, In2Games announces the completion of a major fundraising, global expansion plans and first details of new Gametrak titles.
Real Word Golf uses the Gametrak system to track your swing, in real-time, into the game – which has made it the only golf title in recent years to challenge EA's Tiger Woods in terms of sales and critical acclaim.
"The moment golfers have been eagerly anticipating...makes previous hit games like Tiger Woods look about as realistic as Space Invaders"
Mail on Sunday
In2Games has stepped up production of the Gametrak hardware to ensure sufficient stock availability for Christmas and beyond.
"We've been delighted with the success of Real World Golf to date, and would like to thank our retail partners, developers Aqua Pacific and our distribution partners Mad Catz" commented Elliott Myers, MD of In2Games "We look forward to an exciting Christmas – we expect Real World Golf to be a major hit with consumers and retail this holiday season."
2006 will see Gametrak hit the US, with Real World Golf on PS2, Xbox and PC slated for a Q1 release.
Alongside Real World Golf's success comes the completion of a major funding round, and the first details of forthcoming Gametrak games – bowling, basketball, first-person shooter and party game compendiums from In2Games, plus baseball from Mad Catz are all planned for 2006 release.
"Real World Golf has shown that direct motion capture gaming has captured the imagination of gamers and non-gamers alike," added Chairman Mark Strachan. "By bringing Gametrak's unique, immersive gameplay to a whole host of genres and platforms in 2006 and beyond, In2Games will change the way we play - forever."
One hot game makes the company a star, 2 hot games make the company a heavy weight player. Be ready to see MSFT, SNE, ERTS, TTWO etc. to make buyout offers once the games hit! IMO

EBITDA, a non-GAAP measure (defined as earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization), was $0.4 million in fiscal 2008 first quarter compared to EBITDA of negative $0.4 million in fiscal 2007 first quarter. A reconciliation of EBITDA to the Company's net loss on a U.S. GAAP basis is included in the financial tables accompanying this release.
Sales and marketing expenses in the fiscal 2008 first quarter were $1.7 million, or 11.9% of net sales, compared with $2.5 million, or 14.0% of net sales, in the same prior year period. For the quarter ended June 30, 2007, general and administrative expenses were $2.8 million, a 44.3% increase from $1.9 million in the prior year period. Research and development expenses increased to $0.3 million during the first quarter of fiscal 2008 compared with $0.2 million in the same quarter of fiscal 2007. The loss before income taxes for the quarter ended June 30, 2007 was $0.1 million, as compared to the loss before income taxes of $1.2 million in the prior year first quarter.
Fiscal 2008 First Quarter Highlights:
-- Operating loss in this seasonally slowest quarter narrowed from $1.2 million in Q1 '07 to a first quarter record of $0.2 million in Q1 '08;
-- Achieved record quarterly gross margin of 32.1%;
-- EBITDA rose to $0.4 million compared to a negative EBITDA of $0.4 million in Q1 '07;
-- Continued geographic diversification as European sales rose 69.4% from year ago levels to $4.2 million reflecting increased demand for new console products as well as increased sales to several key customers;
-- Increased penetration into the current generation console marketplace as sales of products and related accessories for Xbox 360(TM), Playstation(R) 3 and Wii(TM) accounted for 46% of the Company's net sales as compared to 11% in the prior year period and 39% in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007;
-- Continued efforts to maintain strong balance sheet as net working capital increased to $14.6 million from $5.5 million (165%), net debt (outstanding bank debt less cash) was reduced by $10.7 million (97%) and inventory was further reduced by $0.3 million (2%) from the same period in fiscal 2007;
-- Continued to align current and upcoming Mad Catz products with professional sports leagues and highly-anticipated software releases:
-- Entered into license agreements with Microsoft and
Bioware(R) to produce a new line of customized accessories
to support the highly-anticipated upcoming launches of
Halo(R) 3 and Mass Effect(TM) video games;
-- Entered into a license agreement with Ubisoft to produce a
new line of customized accessories to support the
highly-anticipated upcoming launches of Assassin's Creed(TM)
and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction(TM) video games;
-- Entered into a license agreement with the National Hockey
League ("NHL") to produce branded controllers and related
accessories; and,
-- Renewed and/or expanded license agreements with the major
sports leagues including the National Football League
("NFL"), National Basketball Association ("NBA") and Major
League Baseball ("MLB").
Commenting on the results, Darren Richardson, Mad Catz' President and CEO, stated, "During the first quarter, Mad Catz continued to see the benefits of our initiatives to add higher margin products and selectively eliminate existing products while improving operating efficiencies. Despite the fact that year-over-year net sales decreased due to contributions from Real World Golf sales in the prior year first quarter and ongoing effects of the console transition, we were able to achieve record gross margin levels of over 32% fueled by the continued elimination of select low margin product placements, lower inventory levels and decreased distribution costs. As a result of our improved operating efficiencies we were able to make meaningful progress toward profitability during what is seasonally our slowest quarter, and posted break-even EPS versus a $0.02 per share loss in the year-ago period.
"In addition to our progress over the past several quarters in driving operating efficiencies, we've also developed and acquired rights to an entertaining and diverse set of upcoming products. Mad Catz now has license agreements in place to create customized products and accessories for attractive brands including each of the four major sports leagues as well as agreements to produce accessories to accompany the launches of some of the most highly-anticipated software titles of the upcoming holiday season including Halo 3, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction. In addition to these entertainment and sports licenses, we are diversifying our product offerings via adjacent categories and we plan to launch our proprietary AirDrives personal audio hybrid earphones utilizing the InAir(TM) Technology this fall. We are very excited by the prospects for this innovative technology as it creates a unique opportunity for listeners to integrate music into their every day activities, eliminating the need to choose between music and social interaction. Further, a recent study conducted by the San Diego Hearing Center demonstrates that AirDrives are the first earphones approved for all-day listening in accordance with House Ear Institute and Occupational Health & Safety Administration (OHSA) standards. We believe these health and safety benefits augment AirDrives' distinctive appeal."
Mr. Richardson concluded, "With our seasonally slowest quarter now behind us, the benefit of a broad portfolio of licensed brands and continued penetration into the current generation console marketplace, Mad Catz is poised to enter what will be an important holiday season. We are entering this period with improved levels of operational and working capital efficiency as well as early sales momentum of products and accessories for the current generation consoles. While we will continue to feel the effects of a difficult operating environment related to the prior generation of consoles, we believe we are well-positioned to take advantage of the opportunities ahead as the installed base of current generation consoles continues to grow. We are also continuing our ongoing efforts to expand our portfolio of relevant licenses, broaden our offerings into adjacent product categories and develop attractive hardware-software bundles, and we look forward to reporting our progress on these efforts as we seek to increase shareholder value throughout the remainder of the fiscal year."
Mad Catz Acquires Joytech(R) Assets from Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc.
Friday September 7, 8:45 am ET
Acquisition to Strengthen Mad Catz' European Market Position
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. (AMEX/TSX: MCZ), a leading third-party interactive entertainment accessory provider, announced today that, consistent with its strategy to further diversify Mad Catz' products and geographic distribution capabilities, it has acquired assets and assumed certain liabilities of Joytech from Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO - News) for approximately $3.7 million.
Joytech manufactures third-party video game peripherals and audiovisual accessories with retail distribution in Europe and North America. The addition of Joytech personnel will allow Mad Catz to initiate a European product development effort and bolster Mad Catz' sales team. The European market has been a key growth driver for Mad Catz and this acquisition reinforces that strategic initiative.
Mad Catz anticipates that the acquisition will add at least $10 million in annual revenue, leverage Mad Catz' existing infrastructure, add several new customers and products and expects the acquisition to be accretive within the first year of completion. The Company intends to finance the acquisition through a combination of cash on hand and borrowings under its existing credit facility.
Commenting on the transaction, Darren Richardson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mad Catz, said, "This transaction is consistent with our strategy to continue to grow profitably, in part by diversifying our product line-up and geographic reach. Joytech's strong presence in Europe and growing presence in North America are expected to complement our current operations and further enhance our worldwide distribution network enabling Mad Catz to more efficiently deliver a larger portfolio of innovative gaming accessories to our customers worldwide.

Bullish Video-Game Forecast
Wedbush Morgan Securities
WE EXPECT AUGUST U.S. RETAIL videogame console software sales data to be released after market close on Thursday, Sept. 13. We forecast sales of $445 million, up 12% compared to last year's $399 million.
Our estimate reflects $310 million in sales contribution from new platforms ([Sony's] PlayStation 3 (PS3), [Nintendo's] Wii, [Microsoft's] Xbox 360, [Sony's] PlayStation Portable (PSP) and [Nintendo's] DS) and current generation software sales of $135 million.
Sales growth over the last 12 months was a robust 16%, with last month up 11%. However, we expect more modest sales gains through the summer, as comparisons got tougher in June and remain tough until the holidays.
We estimate sell-through of 420,000 Wii, 240,000 Xbox 360, and 150,000 PS3 hardware systems. Our forecast assumes PlayStation 2 software sales of $107 million, down 31% compared to last year and much weaker than the last three month's average of -20%, but consistent with our full year projection.
We expect August sales to be driven by new releases: Electronic Arts' Madden NFL 08, Nintendo's Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Take Two's Bioshock along with continued sales of Activision's Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80's Exp and Guitar Hero 2, Electronic Arts' NCAA Football 08, and Nintendo's Wii Play. We expect Xbox 360 hardware and software sales to increase over prior months due to the Xbox 360 price cuts.
We continue to expect contribution from next generation software sales to grow on a year over-year basis throughout 2007, more than offsetting modest declines in current generation software sales.
We expect major share price appreciation for the major video game publishers by the end of the year as investors gain confidence that the next generation console cycle is in full swing, and recommend that investors accumulate Activision, Electronic Arts, GameStop, THQ, and Ubisoft Entertainment shares at current levels.
Although we do not expect another PS3, PSP, or 360 price cut this year (nor one for the Wii), we think a cut for the PS2 or DS is possible. Any hardware price reduction could serve as a catalyst for sales growth later in the year.
We think that Sony's recent announcement of an IPO for its financial services unit (with an estimated $3 billion in proceeds) could forebode another PS3 price cut early next year. We believe that the company is interested in subsidizing sales of the console in order to stabilize its market share in the games market and grow its lead in the high-definition DVD market. We expect a price cut no later than April, likely to $399 for the 80-gigabyte model.
We expect PS2 software sales strength to persist throughout 2007, due to a blockbuster lineup of licensed movie-themed games released over the last few months, with year-over-year software sales declines of no more than 35%. We expect sales strength during the holidays with the release of the movie DVDs.
We expect software sales growth to remain at low-to-mid-teen rates in September (in spite of a 29% year-over-year comparison). Should we be right, we think that investors' concerns about a secular shift away from video games will subside, and we expect the U.S. publisher stocks to continue to appreciate.

1. Profile
Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. (MCZ), together with its subsidiaries, engages in the design, manufacture, marketing, and distribution of accessories for video game platforms in the United States. Its products include video game controllers and accessories, such as control pads, steering wheels, joysticks, memory cards, video cables, light guns, dance pads, microphones, car adapters, and carry cases. The company also markets game enhancement software and publishes video games. Mad Catz Interactive markets its products in the United States, Canada, and Europe. The company was founded in 1989.
2. Stock Price History
2.1. Chart since IPO
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=40245;image)
I guess there's some anomaly in this chart back in 1999, since in stockcharts.com I see the company's IPO at around $3.5 in November 1999.
MCZ fell 90% from the early 2000 high of $3.5 to the April 2001 low of $0.30. Then a recovery began which took the stock to a high of $1.98 in August 2001 (a 560% advance in just 4 months). It's interesting to note that the company's fundamentals justified these wild moves, because revenue shrank from $72 M in 2000 to $55 M in 2001. Then it rebounded to $85 M in fiscal 2002 (which started in April 2001) and the company returned a $0.02 EPS for the year. The stock price moved as expectations changed.
But then the market thought that a $1.98 stock price was too high for just $0.02 in EPS (the P/E ratio was 99) and the stock fell back down to a low of $0.43 in early 2003 (here the P/E was a more normal 21.5). Then another recovery phase and another dip back down to values below $0.5.
The 2nd big advance phase began in mid 2004 and lasted until early 2005. This was a 325% rise. Again, it was fully justified by the fundamental landscape, because EPS rose from $0.02 in 2004 to $0.08 in fiscal 2005 (which ended in March 2005). However, because the company couldn't sustain profits and indeed posted a ($0.12) loss per share in fiscal 2006, the stock fell 84% to $0.30, its all time low. This was in August 2006.
Now, one year later, MCZ closed at $0.99. The company reported EPS of $0.07 in fiscal 2007, so the trailing P/E is 14, which is moderately attractive.
2.2. Short term chart
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=40246;image)
In mid May, 2007, MCZ started a meaningful 100% plus rally. There weren't any news to justify the change, I guess it was just that the stock was too cheap. Earnings were out on August 14 and the market wasn't particularly interested, even though they were positive from a gross margin basis, as the company achieved a record 32% gross margin. Sales were down 19.6%, as expected.
I view the results as positive because MCZ's problem isn't the level of sales, but its low margins. The company is now a $55 M market cap company.
Technically, as we look at the chart since the IPO, it sure looks like another cyclical downturn is happening that will only stop, as usual, at around $0.30. However the short term chart shows support at the 200 days SMA.
3. Fundamental Analysis
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=40247;image)
As you probably know my valuation model has 4 variables, which are the white lines, the yellow lines are known facts and the dark yellow lines are calculated automatically by Excel.
1) Dilution Factor
Historically, and for the past three years (http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/invsub/results/statemnt.aspx?Symbol=mcz&lstStatement=10YearSummary&stmtView=Ann), there wasn't any share count increase in MCZ, so I considered just 1% as the dilution factor (1.01 on the model).
2) Revenue CAGR
Since revenue in the fiscal 1st quarter of 2008 fell 19.6% from the year ago levels, I think revenues will be about 15 - 20% lower three years from now than what they were in fiscal 2007. This means fiscal 2010 revenue of about $85 M and 0.95 as revenue CAGR in the valuation model.
3) Net Profit Margin
Net profit margin was 3.7% in fiscal 2007 and I expect it to expand to about 7% over the long term. I don't think MCZ has a business model that will bring it more than 10% net profit margin, there's intense competition in its space and it has no pricing power. Except perhaps for the its new product, the Hybrid Earphones, but they will be selling for such a high price ($99.99), I don't know if there will be strong demand for them. It's an open question.
4) EPS multiple estimate
Here I put the Toys & Games industry average P/E, which is 17.9 (http://finance.yahoo.com/q/co?s=MCZ).
5. Conclusion
The valuation model results tell me MCZ is undervalued, but not extremely attractive, with an expected share price CAGR of 25%. The optimal selling price (the price at which the share price CAGR falls below 16%) given by my valuation model is $1.25, that is, about 26% higher than the current share price, which is attractive, but not enough to buy for a concentrated portfolio like the Main.
Overall I think this stock moves wildly with changes in EPS, but I don't see EPS growing much more than the $0.07 the company reported in 2007, unless there's a fundamental change of some kind, like truly innovative products. The hybrid earphone is a good promise, but I would wait to see if it sells or not. As for the rest of the product portfolio ... I don't find it particularly interesting.
My current opinion on MCZ is moderately positive. Good luck if you own it and please let me know if there's new, relevant, information.

Mad Catz Could See Increased
Sales on Halo 3 Debut
As many know, gamers have fairly deep pockets and are very
willing to dig into those pockets for some of the most popular
titles. The crowds that amassed for the newest Xbox a couple
of years ago and the PlayStation 3 last year display the fact that
when there is something new in the gaming world, the fanatics
will go to any length to acquire the product.
Well, the latest product to hit the shelves will be Halo 3. Its predecessors have been the staple in
the Xbox's line of games. When Halo 2 was released in the late fall 2004, it managed $125 million
in sales within a day of its arrival. Many analysts were predicting some $200 million in sales the
first week for Halo 3.
The release could have a trickle down effect in the small cap space. Mad Catz Interactive, Inc.
(MCZ) could receive attention from traders and possible be lumped in as a 'Halo' play. The Company
designs and markets a full range of accessories for video game systems and publishes
video game software, including the GameShark brand of video game enhancements. Mad Catz
has distribution through most leading retailers offering interactive entertainment products.
In May, the Company announced that it had entered into an agreement with Microsoft to produce
faceplates featuring characters from the Halo 3 video game. Currently, the Company has those
faceplates for sale on its website in an accessories bundle which includes an additional controller
and earpiece for $69.97 or singular for only $29.97.
The faceplates are somewhat similar to the faceplates you'll find on cellphones which can be
snapped into place with the user's favorite team, color, or any other picture imprinted onto the
phone cover. These faceplates for the Xbox also come with side stickers to fully cover the Xbox
with the user's desired theme.
The Company also recently expanded its license agreement with the NFL whereby it produces
customized NFL team controllers and other accessories for the PlayStation(R)2, PlayStation 3,
Xbox, Xbox 360, PSP, Nintendo DS Lite, and Nintendo Wii gaming consoles. The new agreement
expands the original 2004 license agreement between Mad Catz and the NFL to allow the
Company to distribute licensed products in Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom, in addition
to the U.S.
Also of note is Mad Catz latest acquisition. On September 7th, the Company reported that it had
acquired assets and assumed certain liabilities of Joytech from Take-Two Interactive Software,
Inc. (TTWO) for approximately $3.7 million.
Joytech had been a wholly owned subsidiary of TTWO and was one of the largest manufacturers
and distributors of third-party video game accessories. All Joytech products are designed and
built in-house, providing gamers with high-quality products for all the gaming consoles, as well
as PCs, at competitive prices. By acquiring the Company, Mad Catz diversified its geographical
locations since Joytech has its headquarters in Windsor England and could attempt to capitalize
from its recent license expansion with the NFL in the United Kingdom.
In any event with the Halo 3 debut, the Company could see increased attention as a sympathy
type play, though the faceplates won't be a very large part of their overall sales. The Company
has made strides becoming more geographically diverse and has cleaned up its balance sheet in
past quarters, and with that in mind, investors would be wise to watch.
MCZ is looking good today. Volume and price are increasing.

MCZ: MDB Capital Ups to Buy from Neutral; Sets Tgt @ $2; Analyst Notes
Thursday , November 29, 2007 11:26ET
Issuer: Mad Catz Interactive, Incorporated (AMEX: MCZ)
Analyst Firm: MDB Capital Group LLC
Ratings Action: UPGRADE
Current Rating: Buy (from Neutral)
Target Price: $2.00
Analyst Comments: The firm notes that video game industry fundamentals continue to show increasing strength; PS3 hardware sales have increased 298% since November 2 when the 40GB $399 PS3 version was introduced in North America and the price of 80GB PS3 was reduced to $499 (from $599). They also view the recent acquisition of Saitek, a UK-based, leading maker of PC game controllers and accessories very positively, as it reflects MCZ's commitment to growth and expansion beyond its traditional video game console controllers and accessories products. The acquisition is expected to be accretive in FY08 and beyond. The Saitek acquisition significantly increases the Company's size and scalability and expands its product portfolio and geographic reach. The firm continues to believe that MCZ will introduce a Wii controller in calendar 2008, enabling the Company to capitalize on the strength of Wii sales.
QuoteThe valuation model results tell me MCZ is undervalued, but not extremely attractive, with an expected share price CAGR of 25%. The optimal selling price (the price at which the share price CAGR falls below 16%) given by my valuation model is $1.25, that is, about 26% higher than the current share price, which is attractive, but not enough to buy for a concentrated portfolio like the Main.
The valuation model got it right on this one. MCZ was cut in half since November. I continue to find MCZ's products not very inspiring. How are those earphones selling? They were very expensive, if I recall correctly, $100 a piece.
