But then agian, he's had 3000 shares of Costco for how long? :)
long term picture - it looks outstanding!
Ascending triangle testing breakout levels. Look at the equivolume bars on the chart also. Very nice find with this one. Should move higher as oil hovers near $70 - You definately have my blessings with this trade.
Happy Trading,
Cal
Up almost 1.00 already! Woohoo! >:D
Saw PEIX mentioned in Fortune magazine as the only pure-play pubicly traded ethanol stock. I am surprised to see the stock is still in a nice trading range and not up a gazillion percent like so many stocks are by the time they get mentioned in a periodical. Love the volume profile of the last 3 months, and love what they do and Bill Gates' investment in them. I think PEIX could be a $20 stock in 2006 and I'm looking to buy tomorrow. Seems like a good candidate for the 3SoF buy and hold porfolio as well.
Im already in .... up 10% now. When the ascending triangle breaks this is going to fly!
I had to chase it this morning when it gapped up, but I got my shares and they're up 10%+ now. Ascending triangle breakout is complete.
Calven, let's raise a glass of ethanol and toast to our good fortune!!
This is going to really run now! Its on everyones radar screen...and once oil works its way back up who knows....
Up 25%+ now...
PEIX ON FIRE! >:D
I said PEIX could be a $20 stock this year. What I meant to say was PEIX could be a $20 stock this week GO PEIX!!!!!!

Pacific Ethanol Stock Up Ahead of Speech
Tuesday January 31, 1:42 pm ET
Pacific Ethanol Shares Rise to New 52-Week High Ahead of State of the Union Address
NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Pacific Ethanol Inc. surged to a new 52-week high on Tuesday, ahead of President Bush's State of the Union address, which is expected to include a statement of support for greater use of ethanol.
In midday trading on the Nasdaq, shares of the Fresno, Calif. company jumped $3.14, or 24 percent, to $17.78, after earlier hitting a new 52-week high of $18.14. Shares were trading at more than eight times their average volume.
Over the past year, shares previously traded between $7.06 per share and $14.90 per share.
In his speech to Congress, Bush is expected to talk about alternative energy sources and tout his administration's work in that field for the past five years. He's also expected push for new technologies and more fuel from cleaner sources such as ethanol and hydrogen.
Ethanol is a fuel additive made from fermented corn that allows cars to run more cleanly.
In a note to clients, analyst Paul J. Resnik of JM Dutton Associates cited the expected mention of ethanol in Bush's speech, along with increasing interest from American automakers and the news media as a catalyst for the stock, which added $2.41, or 20 percent, in Monday's session.
Resnik also pointed to the lower-than-projected cost of corn, the primary input cost for ethanol, and continued progress of the construction of Pacific Ethanol's plant in Madera, Calif., which is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter.
Separately, the company said it received commitment letters for up to $34 million in debt financing for the construction of the plant.
Who will supply the corn for this ethanol project?
Why the largest grower of corn in the world is ADM.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=ADM
Great chart and a lot less volatile than an energy stock. And if the Ethanol idea does not fly, there is always popcorn, corn flakes, corn dogs, corn-on the cob.................
+30% today
+58% total!!!
PEIX is on fire!
>:D
Looks like tomorrow is going to be another great day for this stock. Pres. Bush mentioned ethanol at least a couple of times during his state of the union address tonight.
Am I reading this AH quote correctly???
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=PEIX
WOW! Already 20$
>:D
Selling half my PEIX @ 17.43
PEIX -It's down, but I could not stand the idea of Bill Gates getting any richer.
I did some homework yesterday- HERE are some interesting stocks that are ethanol related. Remamber, PEIX and YOLLF.pk have no earnings, so here are some real ones:
MGPI - remember this from the Adkins craze - they are one of the biggest alcohol distillers in the US
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=mgpi
STKL - Bush spoke about Switch Grass - this company works with it
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=stkl
IMCO - they make parts that convert engines to use ethanol.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=imco
Ethanol is corrosive to engine parts. Also, the MPG you get is less!
Maybe when Bill Gates liked the ethanol concept, people thought it was great. As soon as President Bush said he liked it, everyone hated it.
Jimmy Carter will be talking about Gasahol again this week
Snowcat - thanks for doing that DD. I'll keep those three on my radar as well as ADM. ADM was mentioned in the Fortune article where I found PEIX, but it's not as sexy as PEIX. But if it'll make me money though, that's sexy to me.
MGPI is a stock I played almost two years ago during the Adkins fad. Did pretty well on it, almost a double.
QuoteAs soon as President Bush said he liked it, everyone hated it.
Typical sell the news. I didn't think that would happen in this case, but it did. Calven, nice exit on those half shares. I think PEIX will get to $20 in the next couple months and I really like the chart so I will hold.
Will likely buy more shares should it go down another 10%
Had to take some profits after I saw a gap down...
LT - This will still go over 20$ in 2006
Heck of an ascending triangle on the 1-min chart with the top of the line at 17.00. It's been trading in the 16.95-16.99 range for several minutes. EDGX on the ask with "154" shares offered at $17 (154 = 15,400 shares).
No sooner had I hit the "post" button then those 15,400 shares got gobbled up and PEIX went over $17. I had set a stop limit order to buy if it broke $17.01 with a limit at 17.05. Filled at 17.05, sold at 17.75 about 15 minutes later. I love hitting a quick trade like that. $140 profit. That's lunch money for the rest of February!
PEIX back in play. Almost hit $20 today. Maybe it goes over $20 tomorrow $-) Nice breakout of the bullish pennant.
updated charts 8)
Bummed I missed this move today. I set an alert for $22.50 but when it went off I passed on buying. I bought just before the close. That was kind of dumb since it was an emotional buy. If we get a "gap and go" with big volume I'll hold, otherwise will sell at the open.
Wow!
I started this thread end of November. Did a quick trade, took it off the radar and missed the big move.
Congratulations to those that stuck with PEIX. For some of you, a double from the $ 12's.
RealDeals21, thank you for bringing it back to my attention.

I would recommend keeping an eye on these ethanol producers that may intend to have an IPO in the near future. I personally have emailed every producer that is not either publicly traded, or not traded in the major markets to find out about IPO's. Most if not all will tell you no, but for every company it is an option. Especially when it comes to raising capital for expansion.
Other than that, the following companies are more than promising but over due time and go long with these. These are in the mix with ethanol producers.
GSHF and VRDM

CLME Colusa Biomass Switchgrass to ethanol
GSPI Green Star Products Owns two ethanol plants but I am pressing the company for info about these plants to see if they have any plans for them.
IESV Intrepid may, upon getting investors to join in, produce ethanol out of Idaho. But again, they need capital.
XLPI with the ethanol adapter and lube for E85. This stock will become big due to areas that are big into E85. This is a go long stock.
Green Energy Corp.'s (GEYC.PK) patented gasification technology converts biomass to a synthetic gas that can be burned to generate electricity, reformed to produce ethanol or used to feed solid oxide fuel cell. (Dutch) Hildebrand, chief engineer of Green Energy Corp.

Thanks for the Ethanol list Snowy. The OTC and pink sheet stocks are ones to keep an eye because if Ethanol plays get crazy in the next year or two (they've been hot but not bird-flu like crazy), those stocks will get lots of pump action. I've bookmarked this page so I won't lose your list!

3 employees. do they get healthcare benefits?
They get all the grain al-ki-hol they can drink.
All an efficient ethanol plant needs is 3 people. One to make the doody, one to shovel it into the machine, and one to open the spigot and get the ethanol. (they have to hire someone else if they plan on selling it and making money).
Gates and Branson need one more partner, maybe Trump.
Like with the bird flu, the rising tide lifts all boats.....
Someone must have thought ERS makes ethanol +3!!
Check out Snowcat's Hot Stocks thread for a great article on XTHN - up 16% today - they can convert all organic waste (garbage and doody and paper pulp and orange peels) into ethanol! No shit!
hey Snowcat - the momo players from the bird flu plays seem to be migrating to ethanol. I'm in GSHF, which I like because it holds stakes in the other little greenies like VRDM and INSQ. So GSHF should be a good proxy whenever those li'l fellas makes a move. A nice run seems to be underway that could continue for a few months. Wait till the dumb money gets here - the people who were buying GNBT at $5 or STTK up near $2. When they arrive (late as usual) we should see some crazy spurts.
I'm thinking of getting some ADM. It's probably the most legitimate play. At $36 it's not going to get the attention of the ethanol chasers, which means its more ripe for a solid and steady increase in pps. It's the type of stock that will goes to the 50's and you wonder "when did that happen" because it's so slow and steady.
Cramer said yesterday that he was glad a caller sold some of her PEIX that has been up rapidly. I am up 50% and I think it can do more. But there is plenty of branching out you can do.
Lucas - ADM is the 800lb gorilla. And they are the largest producer of corn & Ethanol in the US. It is a good bet.
However, corn is expensive, that is why the little guys and the companies that claim that they can produce ethanol from any organic substance, like XTHN are getting a lot of play.
Another company I mentioned that is hot today is DDSU.ob.
THIS company has a process that nano-izes organic material so it can be more efficiently broken down and distilled into ethanol.
They have an incestuous relationship with XTHN.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=DDSU.OB
They have 4 employees - a good sign - one to ring the register.

Fuel additive? Yet no product. They were up yesterday on a purchase of their "product" by the DOD. The govt has a mandate that all their vehicles must meet clean air an milage standards.
I bet they filled a military Humvee with gas, then put in their additive. When everyone was asleep, they added more gas to the Humvee - and kept doing this every day for a week. the Humvee got twice the mileage as b4!
Then they stopped putting in the additive, but every nite for a week, they siphoned gas out of the Humvee, and mileage dropped substantially.
The DOD was amazed, declared the fuel additive a miracle and placed a big order for 80 pints.
President Bush then presented ODB (Old Dirty Bastard), lead singer of NWA (Niggaz With Attitude), with the Medal of Freedom.
time to buy in again??
more than a 50% correction (ouch!) in the last 1 month....today, it bounced off from the previosu resitance level of around $20 bucks (that was broken to the upside in March) (see chart).
nice bullish harami formed today on above average volume.
thoughts please? i'm thinking of loading up on this one for a run to atleast $25 - 30 bucks .
thanks! ;)

NEW YORK, October 6 (newratings.com) - Analysts at Soleil Securities Group downgrade Pacific Ethanol Inc (ticker: PEIX) from "buy" to "sell."
The target price has been reduced from $34 to $10.20.
:o
I think Bill Gates' investment in this stock might be a write off for him if he takes a loss !
Alternative energy sector stocks have been moving up recently. If PEIX can break through solid resistance at $20.00, this could see some nice gains.
Just bought in on Friday.
I like this setup and I like the industry this company is in. Short term, I see this hitting 20 very easily. Good luck all.
WOW :-\
What bad timing I have! :'(
Don't own this one, but has anyone noticed this lately?
Chart looking very good, I think.
Yeah Sully, I been watching too. I'm not good at catching V bottoms like the one PEIX had. Ethanol should get a boost from $100 oil. Maybe it will be back in vogue again this spring and summer. Also watching ADM, the 800 lb gorilla in the space, which has a nice chart. I see $60 for ADM this year.
