Title: I'll try to turn $5000 into $50,000
Post by: Terliso on November 28, 2005, 08:01:21 PM
Edited:

Ok, the journey continues taking $5,000 out part of my portfolio & I will try to turn it into $50,000

Trading Strategy (combination):
1.) My "3 Magic Lines" (50sma, 200sma, 200ema) accompanied with Big volume
2.) For safer play & possible BIG return, will pick stocks that the MACD lines are          above zero on the daily & weekly scale as much as possible.
3.) Trendlines & 9sma
4.) Charting Analysis
5.) MACD Histogram & some indicators

6)  L (A) from bottom to B then P or (A to P then B) <-----Daily chart
7.) Bouncing Price above A, B, P <----daily chart & MACD still above zero WD
8.) My "Black Candle Gap-Up" theory (huge volume) -- pullback or not.

I'm going to take a position in a stock one at a time, ($5000 1 stock). When $10,000 reached that is going to be 2 stocks to buy, $15,000 3 stocks & so on... I can go Long, Short (from 5 to up), Day-trade, & sell my holding on the spot (either gain or loss) if there is good trading opportunity spotted. I'm going to buy stocks that traded on Amex, NYSE, Nasdaq & OTCBB but no PINK .... ;)

Commission 9.95/trade
Don't mind number 6, 7 & 8 I just put them there so I won't forget ;) :D ;D

TRADING PSYCHOLOGY:

Your feelings have an immediate impact on your account equity. You may have a brilliant trading system, but if you feel frightened, arrogant, or upset, you account is sure to suffer. When you recognize that a gambler's high or fear is clouding your mine, stop trading. Your success or failure as a trader depends on controlling your emotions.

When you trade, you compete against the sharpest minds in the world. The field on which you compete has been slanted to ensure your failure. If you allow your emotions to interfere with your trading, the battle is over.

You are responsible for every trade that you make. A trade begins when you decide to enter the market and ends only when you decide to take yourself out. Having a good trading system is not enough. Most traders with good systems wash out of the markets because psychologically they are not prepared to win.

Been watching you're post and charts and I say you have a good chance. I've started two threads simular to the same. I've only got two years experiance and have learned it's not easy trying to learn stock trading. Hopefully when one of my threads make a sell my next picks will be using better judgements from what I have learned so far on 3SOF. Looking forward to you're post. Know I will learn a lot from you to. I applaud you. :)

Hey Terlisa good luck for sure,

I see you quoted Elder, I have Trading for a Living and Come into my Trading Room permanently on my trading desk for reference.
You mentioned your strategy was buying using trendlines and indicators (RSI), which is a very sound approach.
OPXS also a good stock, however you really should have expected the code red as you have bought quite a way above your own trendline and natural for it to try and come back to that line.
The weekly chart on OPXS looks great.
Good luck

You are right Aussie ;) I quoted it from "TRADING FOR A LIVING" good book ain't it?....
I'm going to quote some more from the book if i read something that will benefit for 3SOF community :D

I'm still not satisfied with that OXPS RSI staying @ .70 level.. we've seen RSI that goes above .80ish & even .90ish just like what happening right now in ATML...
So for bullish stock like OXPS (HOLD) i'll sell it if it close or below 24.40.

My second pick to this $50,000 journey is SIRI - Sirius Satellite Radio Inc.
this is also my pick in the contest... So Let's get it on!!! ;)
setting a limit order @ 7.90 3 ticks ahead from the close yesterday @ 7.87

(if it executed on monday)
630 shares @ 7.90 = $4,987
Cash: $93
Comm: -$30 Total

Copy & Paste:
Coverage initiated on Sirius Satellite by Citigroup to "Buy", with that high volume today looks like some big news is coming that will rocket SIRI to new highs.. & looking at the chart below i'm seeing a 3rd wave up in the sky before the end of this contest... :D ;D :D ;D

And one more thing, i think SIRI will be more profitable over the next year, as more subscribers will be joining ;)... Nobody want to missed out the famous Howard Stern's impending move to Sirius in early 2006... I myself planning to buy the unit & subscribe to Sirius at very cheap price. From my point of view, satellite Radio is advancing pretty quick & i have a feeling this is going to be huge in years to come... Compare iPod (Apple) & Sirius Satellite Radio <--with Sports brodcasting especially football, Howard Stern etc, etc. all in one unit detachable from your car to anywhere..

... And also, Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. the number 2 U.S. player, teamed up with closely held Standard Broadcasting Inc. and the publicly owned Canadian Broadcasting Corp. to launch Sirius Canada. (wow) that would be great, more subscribers meaning more revenue. ;) GO SIRI!!

On the second chart below, there is Inverted Head & shoulders pattern which is also a bullish sign & i think the third wave is possible ;) Just maybe, time will tell!! :D ;D :D ;D

I wanted to buy more but I didn't have any more fund..
By the way, I bought SIRI with you but it's not doing well..  :-\.
Well, I'll keep track of your update.
Thanks.

I know, they upgrade SIRI 2 days ago to "BUY" then downgrade today to "SELL" ...what the ****  :-\

So for SIRI, i'll hold for now

Hi terlisa
I think the downgrade has something to do with them allowing Howard Stern to broadcast with a contract. There is suppose to be some kind of boycott. Don't know all the details just heard bits and pieces on CNBC. I believe it has to do with the Christian channels that was added in Dec.

Hi Terlisa,

Siri is a good company, I played it more than 2 years ago at that time Siri was less than a
bulk. I don't think by holding Siri you could turn 5k to 50k short term. better drop it and
pick up something else.

Good luck and wish you success.

It is not easy even to make money in stock market. I will be very satisfied if I can make 30% per year.

I just set up a short term trading account and my target is 6-8% per month. But I failed the first month, only 5% gain. Let us see what I can have the second month.

As for SIRI, I think that you need to set up stop-loss order after you took a position. The maximum loss should be 7% so you can reserve your capital and stay in the game.

SCON is not a good choice. There is no market for their products.

If you want 10-bag gain, look for VHPM, NTRI, TIE, IIJI, AOB, ... type of companies with exporing earnings growth.

I have a trading plan for SIRI, & this is what I care ;)
As long as i don't see any reason to sell, why sell? - (HOLD SIRI)

Hey Terelisa,

I have been following this thread since its start (and my start in the forum), I thought finally someone who isn't trying to pump some penny stocks.

I am an infant in the world of stocks (been following it for less than 3 mos), and even I know the golden rule... "cut your losses".

When Siri didn't give what you predicted based on charts, why didn't you sell it?  I mean you are mostly buying it on Tech analysis (and not so much on fundamental), why wouldn't you sell the moment your chart didn't comply with your prediction?  What was your plan?

We all make mistakes, or even with flawless analysis, sometimes it just doesn't go our way.  I think it's best to admit that and go for the next one.  we don't have to be winners in EVERY single trade.

It's a shame that this thread is almost dead now, I would have followed you closely ... and I also think by holding on to this, you have missed on some great opportunities the past week...

In any case, Good Luck and I hope you make your 50 K.  Ocassionally I will be visiting this site and see what's going on... I really liked you... Clean and honest stuff.

SMTC Swings to Fourth-Quarter Profit

SMTC Swings to Fourth-Quarter Profit As Sales Rise

NEW YORK (AP) -- Canadian electronics maker SMTC Corp., whose products are used in servers, networking devices and communications products, posted a fourth-quarter profit Monday, reversing a year-ago loss.

The company earned $1.4 million, or 10 cents per share, compared with a loss of $3.2 million, or 22 cents per share, a year ago. The recent quarter's results included an income tax benefit of 4 cents per share, and the year-ago quarter's loss included restructuring and other charges of 8 cents per share.

Sales jumped 21 percent to $58.1 million from last year's $48 million.

SMTC's shares surged 67 cents, or 33 percent, to $2.70 in after-hours trading, after closing up 17 cents, or 9 percent, at $2.03 on the Nasdaq.

For the full year, the company posted a loss of $112,000, or a penny per share, compared with profit of $618,000, or 5 cents per share, in the prior year. Sales fell nearly 7 percent to $228.8 million from last year's $244.6 million.

"Following a lengthy period of declining revenue and operating losses, SMTC reversed this trend in 2005 showing significant improvement across all metrics," said Jane Todd, senior vice president and chief financial officer, in a statement. "Our annual performance in 2005 reflects somewhat lower results than 2004, the result of higher but declining revenue in the first two quarters of 2004."

In this thread i will use Charting Analysis, Indicator (RSI) Relative Strength Index & Trendlines to buy stocks... i'm going to buy only 1 stock at a time, ($5000 1 stock). When $10,000 reached that is going to be 2 stocks to buy & so on... I can go Long, go Short, Day-trade, Swing-Trade & sell my holding on the spot (either gain or loss) when there is good trading opportunity spotted. I'm going to buy stocks that traded on Amex, NYSE, & Nasdaq (No OTCBB & PINK).... Pray for me ;) LET'S GET IT ONNN!!!!! :D

P.S. I may lose my whole investment here and i'm prepared for that, but i'll try it anyway ;) if you don't risk your money you are not making money.

Hi,  I dont know about just putting all the 5k in at once.  Since thats all your investing I would put in 35% increments.  the stock could go down.  So i think averaging down is a good idea if your putting all 5k in one stock...jmo..I wish you the best of luck...and thanks for your research.

Ok, the journey continues taking $5,000 out part of my portfolio & I will try to turn it into $50,000

Trading Strategy (combination):
1.) My "3 Magic Lines" (50sma, 200sma, 200ema) accompanied with Big volume
2.) For safer play & possible BIG return, will pick stocks that the MACD lines are         above zero or looks like turning above zero on the daily & weekly scale as            much as possible.

I'm a bit surprised you didn't wait to see if it's going to pull back to 9EMA which is what you suggested for SIGA. Not following your own suggestions? :)

You were right OSM I should have waited a little bit but anyway I'm hoping for a bounce from the middle of the white candle of last week precisely at $2.01 ;)

I  bought AVSR yesterday at 2.16.  It needs to move very soon.  It's getting very close to the $2.01 this morning.

I never like those long wicks on the candle sticks, but in AVSR has such a low float that the price can fluctuate wildly.

Price is coming up on the 9sma support as well as todays bullish inverted hammer candle, this might be where avsr forms its base.

Applauds and again good luck on your trading goal  8)

Wondering about your thoughs on this AVSR??   ???

Thinking it needs to pop on either the 9ema 1.83 or at least the 1/2 way point of the bollinger bands today at 1.77.

Do you notice if your 3 magics work better on different volume positions?  Nailed CHTR, still curious to see how AVSR plays out.

I was surprised to see you out of CTDC, i still fell we will see your target at 9.3-10 this year... Hmmm.
You might like EGHT

CHTR run so well, pullback might be around the corner though ;)

Thanx Terliso, I should take time to proof read before i post :)  But look at the AVG vol difference on CHTR and AVSR...  But like G said once good chart patterns work for all priced/volume stocks.

YES i believe it is time to short some, probably jumping the gun, but here is my short list of sort ideas:  AAPL, GS, SHFL, KSS, AEOS, AKAM  Had a nice short of CMI last week but covered too early.

Good trading to ya

Thanx Terliso
Interesting, I shorted DVAX as it broke 6 today, in at 5.98, with a target to fill the gap...  Hmmm i remember you thought it might when i was long on it, out of that with about 5%  For DVAX i may get stopped out quickly as i put a tight one at 6.11, will see.

Some chater about the REIT sector, very over weighted currently, I shorted some VNO today

Agree on ACOR i tried a few days ago but Fidelity has none to short... go figure, None on NVEC or CROX either.... I figure that the big boys with deep pockets short these fast flyers and low floaters early on knowing that they will hold a loss for some time but will get it back, then there are none for us retailers to short... thoughts?

IHR Hmmm different strategy here??  Seems to be bottoming to me, Low PE, MACD is turning up,  are you waiting for it to give up the 20ema and ma??

STEC  You nailed this on on the up side, did you try shorting it already?  Seems ripe to go to the mid 6's at least, will see if any available in the AM

KNOL Seems toppy with a target of 8.34, but could also have based nicely for an earnings jump...  hmmm so many ways to look at a chart  :)

some of these have earnings calls soon would you hold short for news?

Cheers Joe

wanted to discuss some low floaters here, seems to be proper thread >:D

markets are continuously on mood of taking low floaters up one by one.played some of them.
what are opinions about possible next rockets?

there are CTTY, SIMC, SPNS on my radar.

1. CTTY possibly acting like GOAM
2. SIMC flag forming + profitable
3.SPNS seems to be turnaround story after years of lagging.

This news is going to push up the price today

Section 1               Registrant's Business and Operations
Item 1.01               Entry into a Material Definitive Agreement
License Agreement with Tandberg

On February 15, 2007, Avistar Communications Corp. and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Collaboration Properties, Inc. (CPI), announced that they had entered into a Patent License Agreement with Tandberg ASA, a Norwegian corporation, Tandberg Telecom AS, a Norwegian corporation and Tandberg, Inc., a Delaware corporation.  Tandberg ASA, Tandberg Telecom AS and Tandberg, Inc. are collectively referred to herein as Tandberg.

Under the license agreement, Avistar and CPI granted Tandberg and its subsidiaries a license, to all of CPI's patents, patent applications and patents issuing therefrom with a filing date before, on or within 10 years of the date of the agreement.  Also under the license agreement, Tandberg granted to Avistar and its subsidiaries, including CPI, a license to all of Tandberg's patents, patent applications and patents issuing therefrom with a filing date before, on or within 10 years of the date of the Agreement.  The cross-license covers a broad range of existing and follow-on products of Avistar, CPI and Tandberg.

The license agreement also provides that CPI will dismiss its lawsuit against Tandberg, filed on May 12, 2005, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California regarding Tandberg's alleged infringement of three CPI patents, and Tandberg will dismiss its lawsuit against Avistar, filed on January 30, 2006, in the Eastern District of Texas regarding Avistar's alleged infringement of three Tandberg patents.

The license agreement includes mutual releases of the parties from claims of infringement and other claims arising from, included in or relating to, the litigation between the parties or otherwise accrued prior to the date of the license agreement.  As partial consideration for the licenses and releases granted under the agreement, Tandberg has agreed to make a one-time license payment to Avistar of US $12.0 million.  The net proceeds to Avistar under this license agreement are expected to be reduced by Avistar's and CPI's accumulated contingent legal fees, and current quarter legal expense of approximately $5.0 - 6.0 million.

Wow, AVSR got its cage rattled Friday (as did the markets) anyone following this low vol stock?  I am still holding some as i see nothing that is poor news, they are increasing their territory and most numbers look OK.  I wish that i had a fishing order in at .60 on friday...  wondering if the 1.10 support will be regained any time soon or we are in for a ride down?
Any thoughs on this one.

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/071108/nyth185a.html?.v=1   this is the company responce to the delisting notice..  it does not say that they are going out of their way to avoid it so it looks like we are headed for the OTCBB.     Tempting to buy more down here but will wait for an apparent bottom which hopefully has been put in in the .50's but could see it much lower.  At this point a true speculation, value play to see if they survive to thrive.  My 2 cents
cheers Joe
