This has peaked my interest enough to take a position this afternoon. Here it is, a slow week with many MM's gone for the holiday. In addition the market mood is negative and this issue has been in a downtrend, oversold with poor volume .... and now this. A spike in volume on no news, on the last trading day of the year. If not the MM's then who is providing the volume? And of course why? A new order, a new infusion of capital, a new product, a new change in management? It certainly is an interesting speculation. Interesting enough for me to take a position and wait around for the first week of the new year for some follow thru. We just came thru a 23,000 share sell order at 3:10 pm only to recover in less than 20 minutes to the 3.60 level. Yes very curious indeed. Thanks for catching this one Setravis and by all means enjoy the New Year celebration.
This is one theory I came up with... NOTE: (1) ~15% of float was sold short as of November 10th. (2) They issued new shares and warrants on December 1st. (3) The float is fairly small.
If I were a big investor I know I will have some amount of new shares and warrants to get more at a certain price. I could sell short a bunch of the shares leading up to the placement, driving the stock price down significantly (remember, low float). I am now sitting on cash from short-selling ... oh, let's say 200,000 shares at around $5.00+/share. Because the stock price is now way down, I get MORE shares for my money (average cost of shares = $3.94). This happens because the warrant conversion price and stock purchase price is usually based on the average stock price over a given period (and I have lowered that average stock price by selling short). So now I own a bunch of shares at $3.94 each.
At some point I need to cover my short, so I use 200,000 of those new shares I have to cover. Who cares if the stock is up at $10... I really only paid $3.94 for those shares! So I've made $5 - $3.94 = $1.06 per share... a cool $200,000 profit. Plus, I now am sitting on a bunch more shares at a cost of $3.94 each.
Lemme see....
1. If the stock price is now $10, I've made a profit of $6.06 per share... about 54%... not bad. Plus I've LOCKED IN the $1.06 per share profit (+27%) I made from selling short those shares at ~$5 in the bank since October (that I bought for $3.94). That money has been in the bank since October as well :) Not bad.
2. The investors probably know the company is worth at least as much as it was when they started short-selling shares :)
3. BUT... let's say I didn't take this short-selling strategy. I would own FEWER shares at a price of $6/share.
Let me see.... immediate 27% return with money in the bank (pre-investment) and a bunch of shares at $3.94 each.... versus owning FEWER shares at $6 each... hmmmmmmmmm :)
Went into that extended downtrend,
Seem to have lost track of this stock.
But look at her now !
Moving with outstanding volume.
Interesting little technology shop based in Redmond ,Washington.
Worth a shot ! Volume is building, at this level could be only a day or so and this will be a buy.

Memory Pharmaceuticals, Littelfuse, Dura Automotive and Microvision Trade Heavily
NEW YORK (AP) -- The following companies saw unusually heavy trading volume Thursday on the Nasdaq around 3 p.m. Higher-than-normal volume can indicate increased activity by institutions such as mutual funds and insurance companies. Upward stock movement on such volume can show increased confidence among investors, while selling can signal further downward pressure on a stock.
Memory Pharmaceuticals Corp., which develops drugs to treat memory and cognitive problems, saw trading surge to 1.7 million shares from an average daily volume of 410,000.
The company wants to issue 5 million shares to certain institutional investors at $1.11 each, it said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The plan requires approval from shareholders.
Shares added 21 cents, or 9.2 percent, to $2.38.
Fuse maker Littelfuse Inc. saw its trading volume surge after issuing disappointing guidance, blaming seasonality, inventory corrections, acquisition integration and manufacturing transitions. But the company also said third-quarter profit doubled due to higher revenue.
Trading volume surged to 1.2 million shares from an usual average of 192,000 shares, while the stock lost $3.30, or 10.1 percent, to trade at $29.26.
Dura Automotive Systems Inc., maker of driver control systems, saw its trading volume increase more than 6 times to 2.9 million shares. Late Tuesday the company said it received court approval of certain bankruptcy motions. The Nasdaq plans to delist the stock Nov. 8.
Shares lost 2 cents, or 3.8 percent, to 45 cents in afternoon trading.
Microvision Inc., a maker of tiny imaging and display systems, traded unusually heavily after the company said it will partner with an unnamed major Asian consumer electronics manufacturer to develop a high-volume manufacturing design for one of its display engine products. The product can be used in mobile phones, the company said.
More than 2.3 million shares changed hands, compared with usual average volume of 370,000 shares, and added 53 cents, or 25.2 percent, to trade at $2.63.

Microvision Higher On Greater Backlog of Development Contracts
Has continued to jump higher. The move higher today, however, is attributed to the backlog of development contracts that was announced in the latest 10Q.
The backlog of development contracts as of September 30, 2006 was $6.8 million compared to $4.6 million at September 30, 2005. Of the current development contract backlog, $5.3 million is scheduled for completion during the next twelve months. The remaining $1.5 million is scheduled for completion over the subsequent five months, through February 2008.
Last week, the company entered into a join development agreement with an Asian consumer electronics manufacturer. However, the name of the Asian manufacturer and other terms of the deal were withheld due to confidentiality reasons.

Hey Setravis, only just realised you have an MVIS thread on the go, great stuff. I won't start a new one ;)
I entered MVIS today $2.75. I am trading MVIS using my STEPS rules. http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=7595.0
Aussie,
Great Pick! I entered this morning at $2.73 / share.. never expected such a rapid rise.. did see that MDB Capital initiated this am with a $6 target if the company can demonstrate shortly an OPERABLE IPM design in the new micro-form factor.

Nice entry Dory, my entry was based on the reversal seeming to have fully confirmed on the ascending trendline (multiple touches) after previous small reversals failed in the pullback phase. Looks like todays volume and movement confirms.
Moving my stop to $2.68 (volume backed intraday pierce or close) also being just below the low of todays candle and around 1.25x ATR (basically quite safe unless we get a failure of this days candle / action).
Finally looks like 50sma will cross 20osma on Monday which is another confirmatory tick in the box.

If you would have started a new one ,"I would have just had to merge it!" ;D ;)
I have been reading your thread every "STEP" of the way. Great stuff down under :D
Keep up the great work there !..........Applaud 8)
MVIS had a look at the breakout area on Monday, but got sent back from the $3.25 resistance zone. This trade is pretty much risk free (barring catastrophe news or something) as my stop sits just below entry, so I'll leave as is for now after all I only opened a position in Friday and nothing new has developed to change my entry reasons.
Good Luck
I like the chart guys, looking for an entry hopefully around 2.90
A low volume indecisive support testing day, which most significantly for me closed above $3 again. Also we got that golden 50 / 200 cross.
I am still expecting upward movement from here. I am not changing my plan as yet.

Microvision initiated with "buy"

MDB Capital Group
NEW YORK, December 11 (newratings.com) - In a research note published on December 8, analysts at MDB Capital Group initiate coverage of Microvision Inc (MVIS.NAS) with a "buy" rating.
The target price is set to $6.
Again an indecisive day with a >$3 close. $3.25 is indeed a tough line to crack. The more it gets hit the stronger it will get. So need to watch potential failure there carefully. I am moving my protective stop to my entry price $2.75 (volume backed intraday pierce or close below).
Otherwise no change to plan. Still expecting upwards movement through resistance.

Microvision To Demonstrate Breakthrough Ultra-Miniature ''Thin Mint'' Candy Sized Projection Display for Mobile Devices
Thursday January 4, 9:00 am ET
Company to Unveil Tiny Display Module During Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Microvision (NASDAQ:MVIS - News), the global leader in light scanning technologies for display and imaging products, announced today that it will unveil and demonstrate during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas an ultra-thin, miniature full-color projection display that is small enough to be embedded in portable hand-held devices including mobile phones. The miniature projection display prototype, based on Microvision's proprietary Integrated Photonics Module (IPM), has been developed in collaboration with one of the Company's high volume manufacturing partners to position Microvision to deliver mobile users worldwide a large screen viewing experience inside a thin and sleek portable package.
Source: Microvision
· View Multimedia Gallery
"Small, two inch displays that are common to mobile devices such as cell phones are barriers to growth of exciting mobility markets, because they limit the user viewing experience," said Alexander Tokman, President and CEO of Microvision. "Our projection display solution is expected to eliminate this bottleneck, benefiting consumers, mobile operators, content providers, and consumer electronics OEMs. As our display is further optimized for high volume manufacturing, OEMs are expected to create a new generation of mobile devices with powerful projection display capabilities. Content providers should benefit by expanding their portfolio of visually rich content and application services. Mobile operators should benefit from an enhanced user experience by increased adoption of mobile data services such as mobile TV. Consumers should be able to obtain a radically new viewing experience by projecting photos, videos, movies, and TV from personal mobile devices onto virtually any surface for entertaining and sharing with friends and family -- whenever, wherever."
The image produced by Microvision's display is extremely sharp and vivid whether being projected to view an image the size of a laptop screen or further away to view an image the size of a big screen plasma TV. Currently measuring a slim 8 mm this extremely small display package, about the size of a "thin mint" chocolate candy or the generation two iPod® shuffle, has been dramatically miniaturized to 1/10 the size of the company's original prototype shown in June 2006 at the Society for Information Display. The Company and its high volume manufacturing partners will continue to develop this exciting technology into products that are expected to meet very aggressive market requirements for size, power, cost, and performance.

BusinessWeek Online positive.......
BusinessWeek Online reports Microvision (MVIS) is in talks with major cellphone makers for partnership deals. "The mini projectors created tremendous buzz," says Peter Conley, managing director at MDB Capital Group. "The market for the laser-based displays in micro form is huge, as the cellphone market is still basically untapped," he says. Joel Achramowicz, an analyst at MDB Capital, rates the stock a buy and expects Microvision to partner with a handset maker by summer. He sees the stock doubling in a year.

Microvision Showcases New Pico Projector Display Engines for Mobile Devices at Society of Information Display Annual Conference
Tuesday May 22, 9:05 am ET
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Microvision, Inc. (NASDAQ:MVIS - News), a global leader in innovative ultra-miniature projection display and image capture products for mobility applications, announced today that it plans to unveil new advancements in its proprietary ultra-miniature display system, called PicoP, at the Society of Information Display (SID) annual conference in Long Beach, California, May 22 - 25, 2007. Microvision expects to showcase multiple projector model prototypes representing the recent PicoP advancements it has made in collaboration with several of the Company's high volume manufacturing and key component supply chain partners.
For the first time Microvision plans to demonstrate a PicoP projection system based on its newly developed wide-angle MEMS scanner. The wide-angle MEMS based PicoP projector has nearly twice the projection angle compared to earlier versions, creating a full-color image with a viewable area that is approximately four times as large and that diagonally is almost twice as long as images created by its predecessors, while still maintaining its small and sleek form factor. The new PicoP prototype delivers WVGA resolution (854 x 480 pixels) in a 16:9 aspect ratio, thereby providing a DVD-quality viewing experience from a package that is expected to be only 7 mm thick.
"We learned a great deal about the potential usage models for PicoP based projectors after polling our customers through direct user focused studies," stated Alexander Tokman, President and CEO of Microvision. "This customer feedback led us to the development of the new device that is expected to provide an enhanced user experience without compromising the original tiny form factor and low power requirements."
"The wide-angle PicoP display reflects a significant advancement since the Consumer Electronics show in January," continued Tokman. "It demonstrates a continuous advancement of the PicoP technology and a design that is flexible enough to incorporate laser light sources from multiple global supply chain partners."
About PicoP:
PicoP is an ultra-miniature projector capable of producing large, high contrast, color rich, high resolution images. It is expected to be small and low-power enough to be embedded directly into mobile devices, such as cell phones. Its "infinite focus" operation naturally lends itself to mobile applications. PicoP is being developed to address a large market opportunity that derives from consumers' desire for a better viewing experience than currently is available from traditional small displays on mobile devices. Other potential display applications include tiny projectors embedded into or used as accessory displays for mobile devices such as personal media players, gaming devices, laptops, DVD players and digital cameras. The company is also seeking to leverage the PicoP into vehicle displays, including automotive and aerospace head-up displays, as well as wearable full-color displays designed as fashionable eyewear.
About Microvision: www.microvision.com
Microvision provides a display technology platform designed to enable next generation display and imaging products for pico projectors, vehicles displays, and wearable displays that interface to mobile devices. The company also manufactures and sells its bar code scanner product line which features the company's proprietary MEMS technology.

Microvision Signs Agreement with Motorola to Develop Pico Projector Display for Mobile Applications
Tuesday July 24, 6:01 am ET
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Microvision (Nasdaq: MVIS - News) today announced that it has signed an agreement with Motorola to develop pico projector display solutions for mobile applications leveraging Microvision's ultra-miniature laser based display engine, called PicoP(TM).
Tiny laser-based projectors are expected to enable a "big screen" viewing experience from mobile devices. By projecting content displayed on the device screen onto a wall, object or even a curved surface, mobile users could easily share Websites or multimedia applications such as movies, personal videos, mobile TV, photographs and presentations with friends or business colleagues.
"Motorola is committed to driving technology innovation that will enable the next generation of great consumer experiences," said Rob Shaddock, CTO, Motorola Mobile Devices business. "Working together with Microvision, we are pursuing ways that projection technology can redefine how mobile consumers view and interact with the media they take with them."
"With its slim form factor and low power requirements, Microvision's PicoP projector is optimized for the mobile environment," stated Alexander Tokman, President and CEO of Microvision. "We believe that our unique display technology, combined with Motorola's focus on delivering cool experiences, would allow mobile users to enhance their viewing of information and entertainment."
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, however the companies revealed they will work together initially to integrate Microvision's latest PicoP projector inside a functioning mobile device for demonstration purposes. This prototype handset will utilize Microvision's new, WVGA (854 x 480 color pixels) wide angle scanner, first demonstrated in May 2007 at the Society of Information Display annual conference.

Goodbye to Squinting at Mobile Phone Displays, Hello to...Pocket-sized Laser Projectors
REDMOND, Wash., Mar 28, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Microvision (MVIS, Trade) invites attendees of CTIA Wireless 2008 to test-drive its palm-sized, ultra-thin mobile laser projector prototype, code named SHOW(TM), at Booth 4411, from April 1-3 in Las Vegas.
Based on the company's PicoP display engine technology, SHOW has already attracted the interest and joint development initiatives of mobile handset device manufactures, carriers and content providers. As either a mobile device accessory--or embedded module in a handset--mobile devices that integrate Microvision's PicoP display engine into their products will be able to project any kind of digital content in a large, full-color, high-resolution format onto any surface.
"No more squinting at images and text on small mobile device screens. Consumers want a great big display that lets them project and share TV, digital photos, movies, and games--as well as browse the web--directly from their cell phones and other mobile devices. We invite CTIA attendees to experience the difference that a pocket-sized projector can make," says Alexander Tokman, president and CEO of Microvision.
Microvision will also demo at CTIA another laser-based product--its pocket scanner called ROV. An affordable Bluetooth-enabled barcode scanner for mobile workers, the ROV scanner delivers data directly into business applications on users' laptops, mobile phones, and PDAs.

Projectors to Magnify Cell-Phone Cinema
Thursday April 3, 2:38 pm ET
By Peter Svensson, AP Technology Writer
Beam It Up: Tiny Projectors to Magnify Cell-Phone Cinema
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Recognizing that it's not much fun to watch movies on a tiny cell phone, a number of companies are racing to develop gadgets that project what's playing on the small screen onto walls, table cloths and other handy surfaces.
"Pico projectors" that are small enough to carry around in a shirt pocket are expected on the market later this year. Eventually, the technology will be tiny enough to be built into phones and portable media players, the companies say.
Microvision Inc., a small Redmond, Wash., company, was at the CTIA Wireless industry show this week to demonstrate a prototype of its projector. It's about the size of two full-size iPods, but by the time it goes on sale later this year, it should be about 30 percent smaller, said Russell Hannigan, the company's director of projector product management.
In a darkened room, the prototype beamed out surprisingly bright, crisp and large video from a connected iPod Nano: With the projector held 6 feet away from the wall, the image measured 6 feet diagonally and was as sharp as a DVD.
On the brightly lit showroom floor, the image was less impressive, but projected on a piece of paper held a foot away, it still made for a nice alternative to the iPod Nano's screen, which is slightly larger than a stamp.
The technology differs substantially from standard projectors: Microvision's unit shines red, green and blue lasers on a rapidly moving, 1-millimeter square mirror, which "paints" the picture line by line, so fast that it blends into one image.
Hannigan said it's highly energy-efficient and allows the company to dispense with the fans and vents that standard projectors have. The goal for the first projector is a 2.5-hour battery life.
Microvision Chief Executive Alexander Tokman expects the projector to sell for $300 to $400 through its partners, of which Motorola Inc. is the only one he was allowed to identify.
The company is also working on a projector so small that it can be built into cell phones, at least the more bulky models. That could be available in the second half of 2009. Because a cell phone already contains a battery and some of the other electronics that are necessary, this unit can be simpler and cheaper -- Tokman estimates it would increase the price of a cell phone by $100.
"The two things people are buying now are cell phones and big-screen TVs," Hannigan said. "This brings those two together."
3M Co. and Texas Instruments Inc. also have prototypes of pico projectors, and may be bringing them to market soon.
Another competitor is Alcatel-Lucent. Randy Giles, director of optical subsystems at the company's Bell Labs research arm, was at CTIA demonstrating a small projector that showed Disney's "Fantasia" from a Nokia N95 phone. The image was smaller and appeared dimmer than Microvision's, but Giles said a prototype that's 14 times brighter is in the lab. He too expects projectors to be built into handsets next year.
Alcatel-Lucent's projector uses lasers, like Microvision, but is otherwise more conventional, using a technology that's similar to liquid-crystal displays to block or let the light through to the screen.
So who would buy a pico projector? Microvision's Tokman said its research indicated that teenagers would be the big market.
"They would rather shut themselves in a dark room and project movies on the walls," he said. "They prefer this to spending time with their parents."

Microvision Reports First Quarter 2009 Results
Financial Results
For the three months ended March 31, 2009, the company reported revenue of $951,000 compared to $1.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2008 and $2.6 million for the first quarter of 2008. As of March 31, 2009, the backlog totaled $617,000 compared to $1.2 million at December 31, 2008 and $1.8 million at March 31, 2008. The decrease in revenue is primarily attributed to lower backlog at the beginning of 2009, which is a result of the company's strategy to focus most of its resources on commercializing PicoP products and decreased purchasing volume as a result of global economic conditions.
The company reported an operating loss for the quarter ended March 31, 2009 of $9.1 million compared to $10.2 million in the fourth quarter of 2008 and $7.1 million for the first quarter of 2008. The year-over-year increase is primarily attributable to lower revenue in 2009 and increased headcount and other research and development costs associated with the company's preparation for initial commercial introduction of its PicoP accessory product. The company took a number of steps to reduce its operational expenses and cash usage in the first quarter of 2009 and expects to see additional impact from those reductions in the second quarter of 2009 and beyond.
The company reported a net loss of $8.9 million, or $0.13 per share, for the quarter ended March 31, 2009 compared to $9.9 million, or $0.15 per share for the quarter ended December 31, 2008 and $5.0 million, or $0.09 per share, for the first quarter of 2008.
Net cash used in operating activities was $8.8 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2009 compared to $8.9 million for the fourth quarter of 2008 and $5.3 million for the first quarter of 2008. The company ended the quarter with $19.1 million in cash, cash equivalents, and investment securities.

PRINCETON, N.J., Aug 05, 2009 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Next Inning Technology Research ( http://www.nextinning.com ), an online investment newsletter focused on semiconductor and technology stocks, announced it has updated outlooks for Microvision (MVIS, Trade ), Diodes, Inc. (DIOD), Maxim Integrated Products (MXIM) and Microchip Technology (MCHP).
Editor Paul McWilliams has helped his subscribers generate huge returns on undervalued tech stocks in 2009. Out of the 80 stocks highlighted in his Undervalued Tech Stocks reports, 23 have produced returns greater than 70% and 12 have more than doubled year to date. All of these were ranked as either good "strategic" or "speculative" buys. The average return for all stocks ranked as either "speculative" or "strategic" buys was 66%, more than ten times the meager 6% return realized on stocks he suggested that investors avoid.
When asked what he saw differently, McWilliams said, "Picking the trend change was easy; there were very clear indicators we would see a rally start the week of March 9(th). However, picking the best stocks to own and those that should be avoided requires knowing not only the companies and the quality of their management teams, but understanding trends in technology well enough to explain them in simple terms."

McWilliams covers these topics and more in his earnings preview:
-- Does McWilliams think this is the year that things come together for
Microvision? With the stock up 80% from when McWilliams alerted Next
Inning readers that at least one of the final pieces of the Microvision
story would come into play later in 2009, does he think it's time
to take some profits or that there is plenty more to come?
-- Diodes Inc. is up more than 330% from where McWilliams called it a buy
in a December 1st special report. Has Diodes run too far too fast or
does McWilliams see the stock continuing to move higher?
-- Maxim has moved up 60% since December when McWilliams called it his
"favorite tech sector dividend play." Does McWilliams
continue to see Maxim's dividend as a safe, steady payout? Is the
stock poised for further appreciation?
-- With near-term expectations set very low, is there a good chance that
Microchip will beat its calendar Q2 consensus and guide above the Q3
consensus?
Founded in September 2002, Next Inning's model portfolio has returned 204% since its inception versus 11% for the S&P 500.
