Point Therapeutics Announces Positive Interim Results at American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting from Phase 2 Talabostat Advanced Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Study
Monday December 12, 10:01 am ET
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 12, 2005--Point Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:POTP - News) presented positive interim results, exceeding the company's targeted 20% response rate, in their ongoing Phase 2 study of talabostat in combination with rituximab, a monoclonal antibody, in patients with advanced chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in a poster session at the American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting in Atlanta, GA.
This single-arm trial evaluates talabostat in combination with rituximab in up to 54 evaluable patients with advanced CLL who have failed fludarabine and/or rituximab. Thus far, 36 patients have entered the study and 31 meet criteria for evaluability (at least six days of talabostat with a post-baseline assessment by the investigator). 66.7% of the patients in the study are Rai Stage IV, the most advanced CLL patient population. Investigators have reported clinical responses in seven of 31 evaluable patients for an overall response rate of 22.5%. One of the seven responses is awaiting follow-up assessment to confirm the response. Five of the seven responses were observed in patients who had previously not responded to or had relapsed following prior treatment with rituximab-- suggesting that the addition of talabostat is providing additive activity. Importantly, three of these five patients had not only failed fludarabine and rituximab, but had also failed prior alemtuzumab treatment--the only approved agent in fludarabine failures.
Responses are evaluated based on the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Working Group Guidelines for CLL, which is the standard used in measuring treatment effectiveness in CLL. The most frequent adverse events are those commonly reported with rituximab, including nausea, fever, difficult/labored breathing, fatigue and itching, with the exception of peripheral edema, which is associated with talabostat. The trial is continuing to enroll and all patients will continue to be followed for durability of response, progression-free survival and survival.
"I am very pleased that we are continuing to see positive results in this trial," said Dr. Khuda Dad Khan, a lead investigator in Point's CLL trial at Indiana Oncology Hematology Consultants. "Patients who are refractory to fludarabine are among the toughest patients to treat because of the advanced stage of disease and minimal treatment options. The only approved treatment option for these advanced patients is often difficult to tolerate, and rituximab is used empirically as an alternative to this treatment. The fact that the addition of talabostat to rituximab is demonstrating positive results-- especially in patients who had failed rituximab in the past--is very exciting. The toxicity profile is low and because talabostat is orally administered, it's easy for patients to take at home--a convenience they like. I believe talabostat has the potential to become an important treatment option for advanced CLL, especially for patients who have exhausted other choices," concluded Dr. Khan.
"These positive interim results in our CLL trial continue a very productive fourth quarter for Point," said Don Kiepert, President and CEO of Point Therapeutics, Inc. "In October, we initiated our first Phase 3 trial in non-small cell lung cancer after a successful End-of-Phase 2 meeting with the FDA. Over the last two months, we have presented positive results from three of our Phase 2 talabostat trials at major scientific conferences--non-small cell lung cancer, single-agent melanoma, and now these latest positive findings in CLL. Earlier this month, we also completed a follow-on offering, raising net proceeds of $25.5 million. We look forward to continuing this momentum in the first quarter of 2006 and anticipate making a decision about next steps for our Phase 2 CLL trial during this timeframe," concluded Kiepert.
This trial is partially funded through an Orphan Products Grant from the Food and Drug Administration, Office of Orphan Products Development. Orphan Products Development grants are awarded by the Food and Drug Administration to encourage clinical development of products for use in rare diseases or conditions, usually defined as affecting fewer than 200,000 people in the United States.

DARA BioSciences and Point Therapeutics Announce Merger Plans
Wednesday October 10, 8:00 am ET
RALEIGH, N.C. & WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DARA BioSciences(TM), a privately held development-stage pharmaceutical company, and Point Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: POTP - News), a biopharmaceutical company, today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement to merge.
Pursuant to the merger agreement, DARA will merge with a subsidiary of Point, with DARA surviving as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Point. After giving effect to the merger, DARA stockholders will hold 96.4% of Point's outstanding shares of common stock on a fully-diluted basis, and Point will change its name to DARA BioSciences, Inc. and be based in Raleigh. The acquisition is intended to be a tax-free reorganization under Section 368(a) of the Internal Revenue Code and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2008.
The combined company plans to evaluate and prioritize its potential research and development programs. DARA and Point's combined R&D assets for the development of therapeutics are focused in the areas of metabolic diseases, including Type 2 diabetes, neuropathic pain, dermatologic disorders, and oncology. A recently signed license agreement with Bayer Pharmaceuticals grants DARA exclusive worldwide rights to a series of patents and compounds for the treatment of metabolic diseases, including Type 2 diabetes and dyslipidemia, expanding DARA's current product candidate pipeline for metabolic diseases. DARA is also developing a novel therapeutic candidate for the treatment of chronic neuropathic pain in cancer patients, a program that is currently in a Phase 2 clinical trial.
Commenting on the announced merger plans, Richard A. Franco, Sr., DARA's President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, "All parties involved believe this to be a logical and productive course of action given the potential synergies of combining Point and DARA. We believe this transaction provides an exciting opportunity for the stockholders of both companies to realize value and liquidity from this combination."
"We are excited about the opportunity to merge with DARA," said Don Kiepert, Point's Chairman and President. "The combination of Point and DARA will give our stockholders an opportunity to retain an equity interest in a stronger company with a broad and attractive portfolio of potential products."
Point and DARA believe that the proposed merger will qualify as a "reverse merger" under NASDAQ Marketplace Rule 4340. As a result, although Point's common stock is currently listed on NASDAQ, DARA intends to file an initial listing application and satisfy all requirements for initial listing, subject to the completion of the merger and NASDAQ approval. As previously announced on September 17, 2007, Point received a determination letter from the staff of The NASDAQ Stock Market indicating that Point's securities are subject to potential delisting from NASDAQ. The staff determination was based on the fact that Point does not currently meet the $1 minimum share price requirement for continued listing on NASDAQ and that Point's recent cessation of its clinical and research operations renders Point a "public shell," or non-operating company in the opinion of the staff. Point has requested a hearing before a NASDAQ Listing Qualifications Panel and intends to seek continued listing of its common stock pending the completion of the merger, subject to NASDAQ approval.

Price is going to pop again and again. Look at the chart. Here is why its going up:
Stock is POTP---POINT THERAPEUTICS (but read on>>there is a surprise)
Here is the rub....you're not investing in this company
There is a reverse merger that is happening with the below company--DARA BioSciences
This is where you want to do your research--http://www.darabiosciences.com/
It's late...so here is the skinny
First read this----
Founder and Co-Chairman of the Board
Nationally featured by such renowned publications as The Wall Street Journal and Fortune magazine as an authority on his industries, Mr. Gorlin founded several highly successful biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in the last 25 years. Those companies include Hycor Biomedical, Inc., Theragenics Corporation, CytRx Corporation, Medicis Pharmaceutical Corporation, EntreMed, Inc., Surgi-Vision, Inc., DARA BioSciences, Inc., and Medivation, Inc.
This is the guy that Founded and leads the company...very important you remeber him and google him
THIS GUY IS THE REAL DEAL
Google all the companies in the above paragraph...as you can see all are successful..some INCREDIBLY so
Now he has this company Dora...and he feels this is the right time to take it public
He finds a company that is virtually a shell..on the verge of BK
He does (doing) a reverse merger (here is a link to find some quick facts and advantages ESPECIALLY IF YOU BUY A COMPANY WITH LOSSES (CAN YOU SAY LOSS CARRYFORWARD ;>) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_merger
Oh did I mention that POTP..this stock is on NASD (not OTC)
and Steve..sorry Mr Gorlin...is VERY wealthy..has (as you can see) GREAT experience taking and running publicly traded companies
One of his holdings is one of his companies MDVN..here is SEC excerpt
a) The aggregate number of shares of the Common Stock beneficially owned by the Reporting Person is 2,818,607, which represents beneficial ownership of the Reporting Person of approximately 23.6% of the Common Stock
Worth a cool 63MILLION in that co ALONE
OH did I meniton MDVN has a 600MILLION market cap and NEGATIVE revs..never made a penny and only 27M sharesOS!!!!!
Why is that significant...BEACUSE IT PROVES HE HAS THE FUNDING TO CARRYOUT BUS GROWTH With no dilution and HE HAS SOME SERIOUS CONNECTIONS AND MARKET TRUSTS HIM TO BRING HOME A WINNER
OK---Here is my summary
Reverse merger to go through Next Jan (2.5 months)
He wants to keep the stock listed on Nas (so price to keep it on needs to be over 1.00 and I am sure he wants it much higher)
Instituions know and love this guy (check out MDVN) http://finance.yahoo.com/q/mh?s=MDVN
the stock just rose alittle over 1000% BUT THIS IS A REVERSE MERGER...not like you are buying into a stock that went up on good news...this is more like owning ERF and Motorola buys them..so don;t let the increase fool you AND EXPECT A BIG DOWN TREND
TOday on level 2, at then end of the day there was over a 1 Million buy order at .36..stock rose to .37 on that last minute pressure and is in .38 in after hours (which I really don't trust afetr hours too much..but something to note)
After the hUge increase you would expect a down day...and it was most fo the day..until the end..pretty incredible
I am looking for .30-.50 range...then as it gets nearer to Jan and or if there is some progression news on the merger...we climb to the 1.00 plus area
Then who knows
Only 40 Million shares on this
And last but not least---DoRa just got an announcement (on Oct 10 in the SEC filing but just released in a PR on the 17th as they just announced the merger on the 10th)---they just got a lisc agreement with ...with...I won't ruin the surprise..here is the link http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/071017/clw008b.html?.v=1
i HAVE BEEN RIDING THIS STOCK AND HAVE BEEN BUYIN BIG TODAY AND LOOK TO DO SO
ENJOY...and DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!!!!
lylakaveli,

All history on a stock pick in 1 thread is awesome. ;)
Just trying to get threads together,so we don't have a numerous amount floating around on the same stock. :( ::)
Thank You....and good luck with all your trades....make some $$$ ;) ;D
POTP prime for buying today.
Check it yourself.
MACD indicates heavy accumulation, big money sneaking in gradually. Poor volume on this day of correction. Not even half of Fridays bull run. Good sign.
Trading above its 50ma and 50ema.
%k is above the %d in the stochastics which currently reading 50%, neither overbought nor oversold.
This is a great risk reward entry currently for POTP because we're talking about a run up to $1 before the merger. Only risk the money you're able to part with and you might be nicely surprised because each time the big boys decide to take a bite, the stock gaps up :)
It is about to pop 10 cents. Just watch in a couple of days :)
Notice the behavior of the stock when its gets pulled down. The volume is very weak on down days because nobody wants to sell except for a few profit takers. MM's are trying their best to depress the press so as to get in while the getting is good. There is underlying accumulation as the MACD shows clearly.
Note this one last thing, for the last couple of weeks, the price will gap up after a couple days of down trading on low volume. And the volumes on those up days to say the least, is incredible. This stock will be at 50 cents plus by the end of the week.
Currently a very strong buy. Just watch the action tomorrow morning.
After hours trading of almost 5%! Here is the gap up and then zoom to the moon. Take a look at the chart and you will see this behavior.
Wish we didn't have to but panic selling has currently made this stock oversold and now is very attractive buy. Personally purchased more at .31
Never has dropped more than a nickel each down day so its up from here.
This a great trading stock. if you don't believe me just look at the recent activity. If you buy right now in the low .30's you have a great chance of catching the next pop which this stock is doing over and over again to the high 30's and low 40's. I've loaded up the last run at .32 cents and sold off at .39 overnight! loading up again not that were staring at the low 30's again and its acting just like it did last time. It is consolidating at higher levels and the lows never go pass 30 cents. beautiful. GL
Testing the 30's again and holding strong!
I'm watching the chart very closely and there is a lot of strength building that will lead to a great days end. This has happened once before when I traded the stock in the beginning when it was down 3 cents and then suddenly ends the day green up 2 cents. Heavy insider accumulation looks like and the MM's hold the price down until the end of the day after buy up everyone shares that go shook out by an adverse move. 30 cents is as low as they are willing to buy at for whatever reason. From their they aggressively buy it back up. I watch the numbers all day and see exactly when a certain support comes in. I would not be surprised if we end positive for the day and see an after market rise. :)
Buying pressure has started!
currently trading sideways. I have a limit out at 30 and am not able to get any. selling pressure is dissipating and is primed for a pop. The next pop will keep this stock above 40, Happy trading.
What you have to say now. Its 0.27$. do u still feel it will go up tp 0.40
yes I still do! The reason is that you can trade this stock for quick profits or you can hold until the merger. Most investors time frame is too short. This adverse turn will hurt the account for the short term but it was grossly oversold at 27 cents and have since bounced back to 28. Let me just say that of course I could be wrong and I will eat it if I am, but currently I am very bullish on this stock.
mee holding to...
lets see what happens

to determine the value of DARA. Lets do a backward calculation based on a current average price of $0.40 per point share with a total of 46mil shares, that works out to be approx $18,400,400. And this value is suppose to match the equivalent of 3.6% of the value of the new company, so if we use $18,400,400 divided by 3.6%, that works out to be $511,111,111. Meaning that the new company has to worth at least $511 million such that it will match a current point share of $0.40. So do you think that the new company worth $500 over mil? if its not, then each point share that we are currently holding will be north of 40 cents. GL
volume is good for this stock in comparison to the humdrum days when it couldn't even break 1 mill. We are moving out of the oversold area which is exactly the safest buying point because this is where the trend changes and the momentum heads north. Our 50 ma is still in an upward trend and we're still trading above it, perfect. The only unhealthy thing i see here is the MACD which looks like it will need a couple of days to correct itself.
From a chart perspective we bottomed out with a reversal doji, which will be confirmed today when we close in the green. All in all, this is the stock to buy :)
Check the techs. Nice.
Strong support at 24 right now as we're trying to move north of the oversold position. Why got dragged down by the rest of the NAS yesterday with that ugly ugly market.
We are in the oversold area once again.
The last time we were here I bought half my holdings worth at this level and averages down. It then promptly went up to 29 cents.
As long as we are oversold at the low 20's there is a heavy upswing.
Don't forget that this merger will happen and management has to make sure this stock is much higher than it is now. GL
