Here's why ANGN may provide an excellent short term trading opportunity:
1) Market cap is just $14.98M, with just 3.61M shares outstanding.
2) Revenues in 2005 were $23.8M, and this is a Medical Instruments and Supplies company. Its industry has an average price to sales ratio of 4.03, where as ANGN's price to sales ratio is 0.63.
3) Revenues have been growing, from $13M in 2002, to $18M in 2003, to $20M in 2004 and now $23.8M in 2005.
4) After this revenue growth and not so much cost increase, the company announced yesterday its first ever profitable quarter, with $0.08 in EPS. There is reason to believe the previous trend will continue and profits will be maintained and grow from this point.
5) The current ratio is 3.44, so the company's balance sheet seems healthy.
If ANGN breaks $4.63 on the upside, as I think it will, I believe ANGN can easily double from current levels over the short term.
I'll buy ANGN for the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio around today's open.
Angeion Corporation Reports Fourth Quarter Profit and Third Consecutive Year of Double-Digit Revenue Growth
Monday , January 09, 2006 17:39 ET
SAINT PAUL, Minn., Jan 09, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Angeion Corporation (Nasdaq: ANGN) today reported results for its fourth quarter ended October 31, 2005. Total revenue increased by 10.7 percent to $6.7 million for the three months ended October 31, 2005 compared to $6.0 million for the same period in 2004. Net income for the three months ended October 31, 2005 was $298,000, or $0.08 per share, compared to a net loss of $203,000, or $0.06 per share, for the same period in 2004. Net income for the three months ended October 31, 2005 included a $38,000 loss from discontinued operations while the net loss for the three months ended October 31, 2004 included a $551,000 loss from discontinued operations.
For the year ended October 31, 2005, total revenue increased 14.9 percent to $23.8 million from $20.7 million for the same period in 2004. The net loss for the year ended October 31, 2005 was $919,000, or $0.25 per share, compared to a net loss of $2.3 million, or $0.64 per share, for the same period in 2004. The net losses for the years ended October 31, 2005 and 2004 included losses from discontinued operations of $229,000 and $901,000, respectively. Overall increases in operating expenses for the year reflect planned investments in personnel and marketing programs to support growth in all of the Company's products.
"We are pleased with our fourth quarter performance; it is representative of a continuation of our trend of year-over-year revenue growth. The fourth quarter 2005 was our sixth consecutive quarter of double-digit year-over-year revenue growth," commented Rodney A. Young, President & Chief Executive Officer of Angeion Corporation. "The success of this most recently completed quarter can be directly attributed to our increased field sales efforts targeted toward generating hospital and physician's office sales of our cardiorespiratory diagnostic products. In addition to notable hospital and physician's office sales, the growing awareness and acceptance of our New Leaf products sold into health and fitness clubs demonstrated significant growth," stated Young.
"Fiscal year 2005 was an important year for both cardiorespiratory diagnostic and New Leaf products," continued Young. "We successfully implemented several strategic initiatives in our fiscal year 2005 resulting in the following noteworthy achievements:
-- Our cardiorespiratory diagnostic product sales grew by more than three
times the growth rate of the hospital and physician's office markets;
-- We successfully launched five new cardiorespiratory diagnostic
products, including the new Ultima Series;
-- We expanded our penetration in the physician's office market with our
Ultima Series products;
-- New Leaf products sales grew significantly as we expanded into new
health and fitness clubs in the United States and added distribution in
Canada and the United Kingdom;
-- The number of clients purchasing the New Leaf Personal Active Metabolic
Assessment, a meaningful indicator, more than tripled over 2004 levels;
and
-- In June 2005, we settled the legal dispute with ELA Medical. Although
we are continuing our claim against our insurance carrier, we have
significantly limited our legal expenses going forward."
Young went on to state that Angeion's corporate business goals for 2006 included:
-- A fourth consecutive year of double-digit year-over-year revenue
growth;
-- Introduction of new cardiorespiratory diagnostic products;
-- Continuation of the expansion of our domestic and international sites
offering New Leaf Active Metabolic Assessments;
-- Expansion of the New Leaf products for weight management, exercise and
athletic performance;
-- Continuation of efforts to recover the ELA Medical settlement costs and
related expenses from the insurance carrier; and
-- A drive toward achieving and sustaining profitability.
A detailed discussion of the Company's financial position and results of operations is contained in the Company's Form 10-KSB for the year ended October 31, 2005 and Forms 10-QSB for the quarters ended January 31, 2005, April 30, 2005 and July 31, 2005.
Hi,
i will be just a litte careful with ANGN when we draw his technical profile...Indeed, we can see on chart a double bottom pattern and price has reached his theoric target at about 4.10...Moreover, indicators like RSI shows us pric is overbought...So i am confident on this stock for short-long term period (fundamentals) but i prefer to buy on a pullback. Perhaps i am wrong ! ;)
Have a good day and good trades. :)
I've been studying ANGN for the past 2 hours and it really looks like a nice stock to hold for the long term at this point. I still can't explain howcome the market cap is so low, just $14.33M, but no doubt it is.
I see no outstanding options problem, no litigation problem (there was, but it's solved now), no liquidity problem. I wonder if the following has anything to do with such low valuation on ANGN:
«By approving the Plan on October 24, 2002, the Bankruptcy Court also approved the Company's Amended and Restated Articles of Incorporation (the "Articles of Incorporation") and Amended and Restated Bylaws (the "Bylaws"). The Articles of Incorporation granted the Creditors' Committee, formed under that Plan of Reorganization (the "Creditors' Committee") the right to designate four directors at any time. By its terms, this right terminated on the earlier of: (i) January 1, 2006 or (ii) the date on which the former holders of the Company's 7½% Senior Convertible Notes due April 2003 collectively owned less than forty percent of the outstanding shares of common stock. Until this right terminated, the Company was required to have at least one director serving as a Designee of the Creditors' Committee. In addition, the Company was limited from engaging in certain transactions without the approval of the Designee. The Designee of the Creditors' Committee was Jeffrey T. Schmitz. The right of the Creditors' Committee expired on January 1, 2006. Mr. Schmitz resigned as a director of the Company on January 5, 2006.
«In addition, under the Bylaws, for a period of three years after the end of the fiscal year in which the Plan was confirmed or until November 1, 2005, no purchase of the Company's common stock could be made by any beneficial owner of 5% or greater of the Company's common stock (or any person who would become a 5% or greater owner as a result of the purchase), unless the transfer was approved in advance by the Company's Board of Directors. Further, each person that was a beneficial owner of 5% or greater of the Company's common stock immediately following confirmation of the Plan was prohibited from transferring more then 60% of the holder's common stock during the two-year period after confirmation, unless the transfer was approved in advance by the Board of Directors. Both of these limitations on the purchase and sale of the Company's common stock have expired.»
Nobody could own more than 5% of the company without their consent? Anyway, this thing has just expired ... it can be the explanation for a very low valuation on ANGN.
I like the sector the company is in, especially the New Leaf products (http://www.newleaffitness.com/), which seem to be selling very well.
The company expects 2006 to be a profitable year (its very first), and probably there won't be any dilution to EPS, as the company's balance sheet and cash position is quite strong.
I'm used to see many penny stocks with a larger market cap than ANGN and with absolute corrupt business models, many times without any revenues. ANGN had $23.8M in revenues in 2005 and it shows double digit revenue growth for 3 years now.
Perhaps it is a liquidity issue, average volume is very low on this stock. It can dry down to almost nothing. But one thing is for certain: ANGN is extremely undervalued here, with just $14.3M in market cap.
It wouldn't shock me to see the stock double in a week or so. If we surpass that $4.63 resistance level it is all blue skies.
We'll see, for now I'm not worried about today's small decline, probably it is just that pausing day before the bulls charge again.

Yes, volume is very low on this stock. But that doesn't mean it won't rise a lot from the current price. I bet if the stock breaks $4.63 on the upside every day trader will show up to trade this microscopic cap with attractive fundamentals.
I'll continue holding ANGN whatever happens.

Those are good news la-onda, an insider buying the stock after such great run up means he believes it will go even higher short term (I also believe this).

Yes Jimbo, but those are old news ... perhaps not many people noticed those results and the market still needs to reflect those on the company's valuation, which is extremely low at this point.
I don't know if there is any Nasdaq stock with a lower market cap than ANGN, anybody knows?
I think the stock is setting the stage for a powerful jump above $4.63 for a big spike up (volume was higher on Friday that on Thursday). I'll continue holding ANGN.
Hi David,
As mentioned in one of the other threads this is a great pick! Funny it hasn't caught the interest of the 3 SOF community but I guess that is only a matter of time.
This is a great turn-around story that will trade much higher when the broader market "discovers" the value.

Yes Michael, without a doubt ANGN is a jewel waiting to be found by the investor community. I bet that if the stock breaks $4.60 on close with volume above average people will finally notice it. It is just a matter of time ...
This stock's daily volume is too low to buy any meaningful amount of shares.
If I buy $29,000 worth of this stock, it is about 7k shares and this may push the stock much higher.
Also, if I sell it later, that may push down the stock price.

I did not buy it for this very reason.
David,
Does the lack of volume concern you? I've noticed that many great stocks often remained unnoticed and so remain undervalued.
Thanks,
Gary

shawFund,
if you were to buy / sell when there is a lack of volume why don't you do it in small blocks instead.......... ;)
In that case you will not push the price too much up or down. Of course you will have to pay more commissions but if you believe the stock is going higher they will be well paid later :D
Good luck.
Hi Jimbo and Shawfund,
From your messages I assume that you agree that ANGN has significant potential. Having that in mind I find the fact that 20 000 shares can move the share price significantly quite appealing.
Mike
It's nice to be able to wait for volume but if/when significant volume arrives you usually have to pay a significant premium. For comparison purposes, see FORD chart below from Nov 04 - Feb 05.
I'm in at 4.05 as of last Friday.
Bought today.
Goodluck all.
Let's get it on!!!!! ;) ;)
What I see ANGN:
It is in bullish break-out pattern.
But I will pass it due to low volume.
Right now the market is still quite bullish and there are many better stocks to own, specially semi and tech stocks such as:
CRAY, ATML, ONNN, RFMD, LTXX, VTSS, BRCD, ARBA, BBC.

I agree with Michael, volume isn't a problem if one has a strong fundamental case on the stock. That's because with a strong fundamental case you won't be trading on technical signals up and down. You'll just wait for the market to recognize the value, no matter what the short term share price is.
I have a strong fundamental case on ANGN, so I'll continue holding and waiting.
Still no news and no movement on ANGN. Just to remind us, I leave here the company's guidelines for 2006:
«Young went on to state that Angeion's corporate business goals for 2006 included:
-- A fourth consecutive year of double-digit year-over-year revenue
growth;
-- Introduction of new cardiorespiratory diagnostic products;
-- Continuation of the expansion of our domestic and international sites

Just $15.27M in market cap and profitable. Patience will pay on ANGN. I'll continue holding.
Nothing happened that could change my opinion on ANGN. I'll continue holding the stock, still expecting a bullish breakout of the $4.63 resistance level.
Weird open today. Right after it opened it dropped into a 3.50-3.70 trading range for a brief time and then popped back up. Very odd behavior. I will chalk it up to ANGN being so lightly traded.

Yes, big movements on ANGN on just 37,800 shares traded. I own this stock due to fundamentals, not technicals.
Perhaps we'll need another quarterly earnings release for ANGN to attract attention and make another 50% move on the upside. I'm more than willing to wait ...
We had some news yesterday that may spark interest in ANGN today: Angeion Corporation Announces Release of the New Leaf EnergySmart(TM) Online Nutritional Health & Tracking Program (http://www.marketwatch.com/tools/quotes/newsarticle.asp?siteid=mktw&sid=1299014&guid=%7B7376E49A%2D12ED%2D48ED%2DB088%2DFC9C14D6C40B%7D&symb=)
This is really an interesting company, taking personal health management into a new level.
Fundamentally we know it is very undervalued (market cap is just $13.82M) so it is just a matter of time for investors to take it higher.
Well, just 13,200 shares traded yesterday, but it rose 6.79% ;D There are only 3.61 million shares outstanding so that explains a lot (it also tells us the company isn't selling many shares in the open market, it can't !).
$4.63 is so close on the chart, isn't it? Just one more push and ANGN will be in all time high territory. I bet that then everybody will try to jump on board and the share price will explode higher, because there are just a few shares available.
Unfortunately ANGN is still trading in the $3.40 - $4.63 range. Perhaps it will attract investor's attention only when it reports 1st quarter earnings (calendar November, December and January), but I don't expect that before April.
Anyway, the company posted 9 cents of net profit per share in the fiscal 4th quarter. If that can be sustained (I believe it can) the company will earn 36 cents in full year 2007 and the earnings multiple would be 10.2, which is attractive for a company growing revenues at double digits.
Also net margin is still just 4.48%, I believe the company will improve this as revenues grow.
I'll continue holding ANGN.
Today's chart on ANGN looks better than the previous chart, which was a bit scary. If we notice, the stock is making higher lows. Higher lows and equal highs make an ascending triangle formation, which is a bullish chart pattern.
Probably we'll need some more positive news to make this trade work. When a positive news kicks in and this starts to move with volume, traders will look at the market cap and they will be :o
Then the stock will shot up 50% or more. We just need patience. I need patience. Many years day trading futures made me very sensitive to pain, with no waiting capacity. But I guess I'm learning :)

Hello voova99 :)
Well, ANGN only had 1 profitable quarter in its history, which was the last quarter ending October 31. Gross margin was 53% and net profit margin was 4.48%, indeed a low number.
But net margin can rise in the near future, in fact, let's see how the gross margin behaved in the past:
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=15533;image)
As we can see, gross margin is slowly getting better on ANGN (now at 53%) and the company just turned in its first ever profitable quarter. Even if there's no growth, the stock's earnings multiple is just 11 at this particular moment, which is cheap. But I believe in the company's products and services and I think it will manage to continue growing.
Technically we're also making progresses, as ANGN was able to close slightly above the descending trendline of a symmetrical triangle pattern.
I'll continue holding ANGN.
Probably ANGN will report earnings only in April, so there's a long wait between here and then. Since the stock has low liquidity, I expect it to move sharply only when there's news available.
I'll wait for that quarterly earnings release with patience, at this moment technicals are mixed to bullish.
I'll continue holding ANGN.
Nice volume yesterday of 34,900 shares on ANGN ;D
I can say it is above average. I also like the little white candle at the end of the day. Come on, everybody knows this will break $4.63 on the upside, what are we waiting for?
I have time to wait, at least until I'm full invested ... (and I'm only about 40% invested at this hour, shame on me :-[)

It looks like some people really lost patience on ANGN, as the stock was down a lot during the day. But, surprise, surprise, it ended at the high of the day, again, on above average volume of 40,700 shares traded. The candlestick left on the chart strongly suggests higher prices to come.
Someday we'll all wake up and see ANGN break above $4.63 and never look back. That day is now closer and closer.
Slowly, but surely, ANGN is coming back. Now that the general market dived, perhaps people will have time to notice the extreme undervaluation of this company, with just $14.65M in market cap, profitable and showing double digit revenue growth.
I'll continue holding ANGN, expecting a breakout of the $4.63 level to new all time highs.

ANGN: Receives Positive Ruling in Insurance Coverage Case
Monday , February 27, 2006 08:45 ET
Angeion Corporation (ANGN) announced, that in an Order dated February 17, 2006, Judge David S. Doty of the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota granted, in large part, Angeion's motion for summary judgment in the pending lawsuit Medmarc Casualty Insurance Company v. Angeion Corporation, ELA Medical, Inc. and ELA Medical SA.
In summary, the Court ruled that:
-- The June 2005 settlement between Angeion and ELA Medical under which
Angeion agreed to pay ELA $1.4 million to settle the claims arising out of
the recall of Angeion's implantable cardioverter defibrillators ("ICDs")
was reasonable, non-collusive and made in good faith;
-- Medmarc has a duty to indemnify Angeion for the $1.4 million
settlement, plus interest from June 30, 2005;
-- The Court stated that 32 of the 160 ICDs that were explanted did not
meet specified voltage levels to warrant recall and therefore the "device
costs" and "ELA expenses" associated with those 32 ICDs were not covered by
the policy. The Court stated it could not make a specific determination
with respect to that portion, if any, of the $1.4 million settlement that
pertains to device costs and ELA expenses with respect to those 32 ICDs.
This matter, therefore, remains subject to future determination by the
Court or resolution by Angeion and Medmarc.
-- Angeion is entitled to recover from Medmarc costs and fees in the
amount of $49,353.10 incurred in defending ELA's claims.
On August 25, 2005, the Court had found that Medmarc had a duty to defend Angeion and had breached that duty.
On June 30, 2005, Angeion had entered into settlement agreements with ELA Medical, Inc. and ELA Medical S.A.S. (together "ELA") that ended the legal dispute and lawsuit by ELA against Angeion and resolved all litigation and other issues between Angeion and ELA related to recall of the ICDs and reimbursement of expenses incurred by ELA. Under the terms of the settlement agreement and release regarding LYRA ICDs, ELA agreed to settle its $2.0 million plus cross-claim against Angeion in return for an Offer of Judgment on ELA's cross-claim in favor of ELA and against Angeion in the amount of $1.4 million. The judgment was subsequently entered by the Court and has been satisfied by Angeion.
Thanks for posting the news la-onda :) It wasn't very significant for the stock price, which is still waiting for more information (or, in this case, publicity).
I'll continue waiting and holding ANGN.
Also, nothing happened since my last update on ANGN. Probably earnings will be out just in April, and often these low liquidity stocks only get investor's interest at such occasions.
I'll continue holding, though.

As we thought, ANGN just needed publicity to go up ... up 13% as I write :-*
Still just a $15M market cap, so this can make a huge run. I'll look for the complete 10-K report, since I don't understand why revenues grew from $6.654M to $6.933M, and earnings per share declined from $0.09 to $0.05 on a sequential basis, particularly since they say the gross margin improved:
«Gross margin improved to 51.2 percent up from 46.4 percent in the first quarter of 2005»
Perhaps there was a special tax charge or whatever. I'll wait for details, as the stock is set to break $4.63 on the upside. Go ANGN, go !!!
I have sold ANGN today. It has like most of David's pick been a great investment.
I am sure this company has a great future ahead of it and I am also sure that i will be a happy ANGN shareholder again but I have one problem. The management keep saying that they are working
Quotetoward achieving and sustaining profitability.
What exactly do they mean ??? having in mind that they have now been profitable in two quarters are they not sure that the next quarters will be profitable. I don't know but I don't want to hold this stock if they post a loss. I might want to buy it though because in the long term I believe in the business model.

I agree Michael, those are strange words. Since the company is profitable now for two quarters in a row, why do they say they want to achieve profitability?
Anyway, revenues for the fiscal 1st quarter were $6.933M. If we annualize this we get $27.73M. The market cap is still just $16.11M, so the stock trades at a revenue multiple of 0.58. But, the Medical Instruments and Supplies industry trades at 4.13 times revenues.
So, even if ANGN posts a quarterly loss, the stock is still very undervalued.
Although I feel it can go down short term, as you say, «I believe in the business model» and I'll continue holding ANGN.
I'd like to start my first update on this trade with a little quote from David's first analysis on this topic:

If ANGN breaks $4.63 on the upside, as I think it will, I believe ANGN can easily double from current levels over the short term.
Well, ANGN closed today at $4.90 after a nice run on Friday's breakout.
The long term chart (semi-log) looks great, having an ascending channel going on, and the stock going forward. The short term chart looks great as well, now with this breakout... there is only one thing missing here, which is publicity... ups... I mean Volume :-)
Michael may have a point here, there was no need for the management to say such low confidence things, and they may need some PR experts.

I'm enjoying the stage of this trade, and I'm not setting a stop right now... I'm very curious if the volume will show up on this breakout level. (It is although possible and probable, from a technical point of view a new re-test on the $4.63 breakout level which will do no harm in my opinion).
We are holding ANGN !
G, do we have a target for this winner? running for 6 straight days on thin volume.
Thanks ! ;)

I would point $7.00 as a target (mid term), from a technical point of view, if you look to my second chart on the last update, $7.00 is the upside of the ascending long term channel.
But off course, I dont expect that to be achieved with out some correction in the middle.
regards,
Another big white candle confirming this stock is willing to go further...
The only issue is the volume, which is low... But volume is always a relative factor, ANGN is a low volume stock, and today's volume was 3 times its average, so we can say that volume is supporting this move, even being just 140k, volume is increasing.
This stock needs some publicity... or maybe not... price is developing on the right direction, technicals are great, and I see no upside for now (except $7.00, on the long term chart provided).
In case of price correction, the $4.63/$5.00 level should provide some support, and we are not seting any stop for now.
We are Holding ANGN.
Best regards,
ANGN volume was really low today :o Well this is a undiscovered micro cap...
The only reason for this update is that we'll be setting a stop @ $4.50 for profit protection. This stop is a little below the short term support ($4.63), giving plenty of room to this trading plan.
Best regards,
elite G,
Is ANGN forming the G pattern ;D ;D ;D >:D
Thanks

Nope B sorry :) The g-pattern requires violent volume!
ANGN still looks good though. ;)
ANGN has been trading very low volume for the last few days; today's session was not very interesting, and maybe ANGN needs to consolidate its recent breakout before further moves.
We are keeping our stop level @ $4.50, and Holding ANGN.
Some good news for ANGN today:
- Angeion Reports Sales Success in the Clinical Research Market (http://biz.yahoo.com/iw/060322/0114221.html)
The stock reacted well, but volume was low again (the average).
We are keeping our stop level @ $4.50, and Holding ANGN.
Not a particular good session for ANGN today, with some selling pressure motivated my the general market behaviour on FED's rates.
Although ANGN did not broke its technical pattern yet, and we'll stay with our previous plan:
Hold ANGN with a stop @ $4.50
Please pick stocks with good liquidity.
The average volume for this stock is only 56K and only few thousand shares traded last few days.
If we sell it, this stock may get crashed.
Feeling good about keeping this one at the moment. Anybody else still holding other than me?
hey Oicpinoc - I'm still holding too. Been long since 4.04. Triangle breakout today, though it was only on average volume so can't be sure it's the real deal.
You can thank me guys - I held until Thursday!!! :( Lol.
better than the general market ;D
Implied target for the ascending triangle breakout is approx $7.25. Still holding my position bought in January. May add to it tomorrow.
I have been watching ANGN for a few days now.. I really would like to get in but I am to much of a chicken because of the general market.. good lluck all... I think it is very bullish....

Yep, and what about EliteG, any news?
No, haven't heard anything. I was worried that the workload he was under on 3sof would prove to be too much. It was either that or he is absent for personal reasons, as people say.
