Title: ACLS
Post by: fous on January 17, 2006, 03:44:50 AM
Price action breaking out of a year long descending wedge, filling the gap, heavy volume, Morning doji star pattern. This is looking like a good buy for tomorrow morning.

Descending wedge breakout:

Morning Doji Star

Significance: bullish

Indication: reversal

# of candles: 3

Previous Trend: Bearish

The Morning Doji Star pattern is characterizes by 3 candles. The fisrt day is a long black candle reinforcing the already bearish downtrend. The second is gaps down and forms a doji candle, indicating confusion in the market and a reversal could be upon us. And finally the 3rd day forms a white candle whose closing price pushes well into the real body of the first black day that occurred in this pattern. A gap up on the 3rd day is preferred for an ideal bullish Morning Star pattern though is not required. Confirmation of this pattern is provided by a higher close on the 4th day.

Note: Candlestick reversal patterns are significantly more potent when occuring near areas of support and resistence.

This set up just got even better :D 3 white soldiers candlestick pattern.

3 White Soldiers

Significance: bullish

Indication: reversal/momentum

# of candles: 3

Previous Trend: N/A

The 3 White Soldiers pattern can be appear in all instances of the market. The prior trend to this pattern need not be bullish, bearish, or neutral for this pattern to be valid. 3 White Soldiers indicate extreme momentum in the market and indicates higher prices ahead. The pattern is characterized by 3 long white candles with the opening of each candle within the real body of the prior candle, or very close to within it. The closing price of the of all 3 candles are either at the high of the day or very close.

Note: Candlestick reversal patterns are significantly more potent when occuring near areas of support and resistence.

Where do you see it going from here. I see the new target is $10.

Well, maybe you and aix both are psychics, and having WW premonitions.  ;D

Looks like this might be a nice buy on a pullback to the gap and the 200DMA at 5.87-5.93, if we get it.

But watch yesterday's doji star - could signal the next leg as the last one did (perhaps not as reliable as the previous candle is not very long, but still).

Could also be a fake-out of the flag in continuation.  I really like the look of this one, and may get in if it is looking strong, otherwise will aim for an entry around 6.01

After putting in a Bear Flag, ACLS has been pulling back to 5.87-5.93.  Friday's low was 6.05.

Scotsman,

Hmm-mm...the Bear Flag target IN PLAY is 6.02.

If it's really, really bullish, it won't fill the gap.

My biggest concern about getting long ACLS is the fact that, like QTWW, it got smacked entering the Kumo (Cloud) the week before last, put in a Bearish Doji Star Hangman that week, then this week, it put in a Black Candle that gives the last three weeks the look of a Bearish Evening Star.  This week's close wasn't 50% below the close of the big white candle, though.

???  ???   ???

I'm thinking that maybe it will come down and tag the Tenkan-Sen at 5.77 for a gap filler, and  bounce off there.  (See chart, next post).

I don't like the 5.05 stop on the last chart.  Too much risk for me, but I like a "logical stop."
Maybe 5.34, the high before the breakout, or 5.50, the Kijun-Sen.

???  ???  ???

I'll have to give it some more thought.  I like the fact that an analyst upgraded ACLS to 10.00 (10.50?), which is up where the Wolfe Wave #6 target is.

It's really, really bullish. ACLS didn't fill the gap, and it's up 21% this morning, to 7.69.

This was my pick on the contest and see this stock making new high's.

Axcelis Technologies (ACLS:Nasdaq - commentary - research - Cramer's Take) also posted fourth-quarter results that came in ahead of expectations, sending shares up 23%. The maker of semiconductor processing equipment reported a loss of $1.3 million, or 1 cent a share, compared with a year-earlier profit of $7 million, or 7 cents a share. Excluding restructuring costs of $1.7 million, or 2 cents a share, the company would have earned a penny a share during the latest quarter. Wall Street expected a loss of 3 cents a share. The company's sales fell to $92.9 million from $94.5 million, but beat analysts' forecast of $90 million.
Looking ahead, Axcelis Technologies sees first-quarter sales of $90 million to $100 million. Analysts project sales of $90.4 million. Shares were trading up $1.46 to $7.82.

That's great, wrangler!  Applause.  I didn't get the price that I wanted.  I'm glad that you had it.

I'm a newbie at these Wolfe Waves that Calven has been teaching us in the Wolfe Wave folder on the Technical Analysis Board, so I'm interested to see if ACLS can make it to the target at Wave #6, which is at about 9.74 for today, February 13.  The target line rises about a penny each day.

Good luck with the contest.

G.,

After the wicked drubbing we've had in the market, and things breaking support in general (like the QQQQ), I'm looking for stocks that found support during the beating, and ACLS qualifies.

ACLS was a "fous" pick, and I noticed that it was a Bullish Wolfe Wave, although I don't have a lot of experience with Wolfe Waves.  Some of them have worked out well, though.

Here's that chart, which has a brief explanation of a Wolfe Wave, and the target line, which points to about $10.  Back in January or February, an analyst upgraded ACLS to $10.  It's in one of the folders, I think, on a Search.

I'll post a close-up chart next.

This chart on ACLS zeroes in on what happened after the Bullish Wolfe Wave Breakout:

1. Four days after it broke out of the Bullish Wolfe Wave, it had a nice gap up, then a little Bear Flag consolidation that I hoped would fill the gap, so that I could buy.  It didn't, and I missed it.

(I still want a "Curses!" face on the toolbar).  ;D  >:D

2. It gapped up on February 9 on good earnings, had a strong day, and continued to 8.20.  I don't know why it sold off so much from there.

3. After a fairly lengthy selloff that ended in a Bullish Fallish Wedge (pattern in purple), ACLS broke out it on May 4, then gapped higher on May 5 on a good response to earnings (do an ACLS search and read Perfect Sage's comments on earnings...I owe him an applause for that).

4. Gaps can be a pain in the you-know-what because they often get filled, as this earnings gap did in the recent general market Smackdown.  But, now all of the gaps are filled.

5. I very much like the fact that ACLS put in a low on a Bullish Hammer at its 50DMA on Wednesday, ahead of the rest of the market.  The 50DMA is above the 200DMA, so that's "good to go," along with the gap fills.

6. Basis the weekly chart, ACLS looks like it's putting in an Inverse H&S pattern, with a slightly rising neckline (I'll post that next, with the Ichimoku Kinko Hyo chart).

7. The Ichimoku Kinko Hyo chart looks to be shaping up nicely, which I'll explain in the next post .

8. MACD is above its signal line and above zero, and it kicked higher off the signal line on Friday (I'll post that chart after the Ichimoku).

Summary:

ACLS closed at 6.49.  The "logical stop" would be below Wednesday's Bullish Hammer, which was 6.03.  I'd use something right under the round 6.00, like 5.99...5.98...5.97 to give it some intraday "wiggle room."

On a 6.49...6.50 entry with, say a 5.98 stop, that's a risk of a loss of 8%.  I'm not sure that I want to be that generous.  I sold all of my long postions last Monday morning save one (posted in various folders...QQQQ...AAPL...FLWS...CHK...CPST), and I sold the remaining long on Tuesday.  But, I'm trying to be open minded.

;D

I might buy ACLS on a pullback to the top of Wednesday's Bullish Hammer low (EDIT: I meant high), which was 6.34.  Say, the high 6.30s.

I'm still ticked off at our IMOS.  That stock looked WONDERFUL, both technically and fundamentally.  It not only busted the 7.20 stop, it went to 6.13 on Friday.  Yeeesh!!  It recovered, though, and closed green.

Okay, on to the next charts...

For those unfamiliar with Ichimoku Kinko Hyo, don't be intimidated.  It's very simple, really.  It shows you "at a glance...the table of balance."

Is the stock above or below the Kumo (Cloud)?  That's the vertical lines.

We can see "at a glance" that for a long time, ACLS was below the Kumo (Cloud), so the trend was bearish.

On February earnings, ACLS went above the Kumo (Cloud), and since then, has been consolidating with it.  On May earnings, ACLS went above the Kumo (Cloud) again, and now is at the top of it, on a weekly Bullish Hammer (needs upside follow-through).

The "possible" Inverse H&S with up sloping neckine is circled in blue.
