1) Taseko Mines Ltd. (TGB)

2) Reason Behind this pick:

--- TGB just made new high recently
--- Chart pattern indicates a Strong Upward Trend.
--- Relative Strength is Bullish.
--- Prices just staying above the 13 day EMA, & that exactly what i want to stay bullish in the stock.
--- Up/Down volume pattern indicates that the stock is under Accumulation
--- Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD) indicates a Bullish Trend

Quote from: Terlisa on January 18, 2006, 12:31:14 AM
***TGB in the making*** ----- just like EGO, http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=3906.0

As i look deeper on the chart of TGB, i get more excited ;) so i bought back my shares today ;)
I have bought TGB couple weeks ago & sold it before the pullback & now it's coming back with more higher volume (record volume) ;) :D ;D

--- The company's cash & revenue has increased
--- & the total Cash from operations decreasing

A rectangle is a chart pattern that contains price movements between two parallel lines. they usually horizontal but can sometimes slant up or down. You need at least four points to draw a rectangle: the upper line connects two rally tops, and the lower line connects two bottoms. these lines should be drawn through the edges of congestion areas rather than across the extreme highs and lows.

As you can see from the chart below, Bulls obviously won the battle within the Slant Down rectangle pattern & back by high volume... I believe TGB will make new highs in the coming days & weeks ;) GOODLUCK!!!!

1)   Stock Pick: -------------- DROOY  Drdgold Ltd (NASDAQ SC

2)   Reason behind this pick

Same as last contest, I keep rating DROOY as a strong buy in this month. we are clearly in a gold bull market that is already out performing all the other market sectors, and 2006 should be a great year for precious metal.

Dollar Gold have enjoyed consistent rising during past weeks and even months, however, Rand gold showing relative weak at this point. The chart shows that it is going to break out to the all time high, properly within several weeks. with such an action of gold bullion, I believe that South Africa gold stocks are likely to produce a far superior performance to their North American counterparts for the next phase.

From TA side: Elliott moves in a series of repeating five waves with a corrective wave in between each set of five waves. when the market entered wave 3 we can expect fireworks on the upside. That is exactly where we are on the JSE Gold index at this point of time.

GFI/HMY currently leading the break out all the way. but undervalued DROOY might have greater potential at this time. The breakout of the reverse head and shoulders pattern, with neckline resistance at $1.5-$1.6, already indicated a short term target $2.50 minimum. if we can take off the resistance around $2.4-$2.5, the sky will be limit ...

3) TA chart indicates breakout with volume

ENDWAVE (ENWV)

2)
UNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Endwave Corporation (Nasdaq: ENWV - News), a leading provider of high frequency RF modules for telecommunications networks, defense electronics and homeland security systems, today announced that it expects to report fourth quarter 2005 revenues of approximately $13.0 million, compared with $14.3 million in the prior quarter and $11.4 million in the fourth quarter of 2004. Revenues for 2005 are expected to be approximately $49 million, an increase of more than 45% from $33.2 million in 2004.

"During the fourth quarter, we incurred delays in some telecom orders until early 2006 which led to a quarter over quarter decrease in our telecom revenues," said Ed Keible, Endwave's CEO and President. "We are pleased to report, however, that revenue from our non-telecom business is anticipated to grow more than 20% from the third quarter of 2005, and to more than double for the year. Endwave Corporation (ENWV) signed a long-term purchase agreement with its largest customer, Nokia Corporation(NOK), covering the terms and conditions of the sale of various Endwave transceiver products to Nokia. The purchase agreement is effective as of January 1, 2006 and provides a continuous bridge from the previous multi-year purchase agreement between the companies, which concluded on December 31, 2005. The purchase agreement does not provide for an expiration date and may only be terminated by either party upon 18 months' prior written notice or upon the occurrence of certain events listed in the purchase agreement.

My Pick:
XDSL, Mphase technologies inc.

Why?:
XDSL is a company in the nano tech world. They recently made a magnetometer in conjunction with Bell labs. This magnetometer is the size of a penny and it can detect magnetic fields. It is 1000 thousand times more sesnsitive than a radar detectos used at airports. The uses for this magnetometer are endless. This is a highly speculative play but it's the kind you need to pick in order to win a short contest like this, so I believe it will go up I just hope it's quick enough to win the contest!

Ok, scratch the previous pick! I forgot I can't pick penny stocks. Sorry Ramsburg.

My picks is (for real this time, hehe) WPCS

Wpcs is in wireless technonolgy, they have contracts with the government, hospitals and many local governments entities. I'm picking WPCS for its potential to rise  because it is a small cap company that has rising revenues and is very profitable. The stock recently bounced off its 20 dma here, so I'm hoping for a uptrend to start here off that bounce. Here's the chart:

1) UTSI  - UTStarcom Inc.

2) News out of India and China recently indicate that UTSI is ready to recover. Strong insider buys in the last few months in the $8.50 range show good confidence, and IPTV is a hot sector overseas. This stock historically lays a flat line for stretches, then breaks. It's been flat for about 3 months now and is ready to break with more positive news. Good luck all.

Title: Re: The pick is DOX (Amdocs Ltd.) for 3rd Edition
Post by: fill_the_gap on January 20, 2006, 09:32:00 AM
Good Morning !

This will be my first time in the contest.  Fousc's interview was great and it got me excited to play.  Most of my trades are in the OTC market.  I had to scramble to pick a (normal and rational company (non OTC)   ;D) to enter in the contest.  Being that I gravitate towards competition, I cannot miss out on this round of the game.

The list that I considered was DOW, CHK & DOX.  I am going with DOX.

The link provides the most recent chart.
http://stockcharts.com/def/servlet/SC.web?c=dox

* Some people were playing DOX into the rumor of a deal with Sprint-Nextel.  They were correct.  A preliminary deal was confirmed this week.  I was hoping to get this in as a play into the rumor as DOX rose quite a bit on the news.  So will people now sell DOX off back into the high $ 20's ?  It remains to be seen.  The chart is quite interesting.  The plan is that all of the gaps do not get filled on a retrace.  Perhaps the volume and interest generated with the Sprint-Nextel deal can justify the gap up in price.  Aside from the deal, DOX had a record quarter that was recently reported (information is below my commentary).  The guess is that DOX will pullback from some traders exiting near term.  The most exciting part would to be in last place heading into the end of the Stock Picking Contest.  Then on the last day an influx of volume and buying to move it well above the buy price and winning by a tiny percentage. :o  We will see.  Regardless, DOX is one to watch moving forward.  The Sprint-Nextel deal will add much revenue, profit and record quarter growth moving forward.

Enjoy the game & Good Luck  !  We cannot let Fousc repeat.   ;D

SATC - SatCon Technology Corp

Reasons:
1)  Just going with the flow.  SATC is in the right sector.  Alternative energy has been a very hot sub-sector.  The California Public Utilities Commission approved the California Solar Initiative, a comprehensive proposal that provides $2.8 billion in incentives toward solar development for the next 11 years.
2) Is this overpriced:  No  Is it underpriced: No  However, this sector is subject to plenty of speculation
3) Are the fundamentals improving and likely to continue:  Yes, revenues have been steadily increasing and without R&D costs, the company is close to break-even.  I expect margins to improve as demand for like products spikes.
4)  Is it technically sound?  It's ok, but not a screaming buy.  However, the high volatility and low market cap can send this north-bound fast.  Downside potential is not that significant.
Hopefully, it will bounce off the 9-day moving average after the contest starts.

1)My Pick is  MMUS MAKEMUSIC INC (NasdaqSC)

2) Reasons: a)The recent news that the next version of Finale®, the award-winning music notation software, will be released as a Universal application. "Universal" refers to the fact that it will run natively on both Power PC- and Intel-based Macintosh computers. Finale will also continue to support current Windows operating systems; b) the recent breakout of down channel with rising volume
c) the actual new up trend, after a salutary pullback on 61,8% fibonacci level,

1 Me pick: AVII

2 Why?

Good news out today, stock jumped a sexy 28% plus. Normally I wouldn't throw money at a pick right after a big up, but it's had great accumulating support and today had record volume at something like 35x avg.

News:

"AVI BioPharma (AVII:Nasdaq - commentary - research - Cramer's Take) surged 40% after the drug developer said that three independent labs confirmed that the company's Neugene drug showed efficacy in preclinical experiments against multiple strains of influenza, including the bird flu strain H5N1."

I'm also not a big bird-flu player, but that sounds pretty nice to me.

Other notables: broke past 52 week high, great trading support, and I think it will continue to climb into double digits. Basically it's one of those try to stop a running train trades. Rally around the flag, or castles in the sky.

Go AVII!

OK im going with cray again  :-*   she bounced crazy the week the contest ends, still has a gap to fill that would bring us in at 100% , and its going out da park in my portfolio. Volume is up as you can see, and the whole tech sector is doing pretty good this month. See you in the winners circle. Unless my wife makes a pick ughhh shes like amazing.

DESC

It's really, really cold here in Kansas City, and Natural Gas prices are at record highs.
so while I'm shivering, I'm thinking Alternative energy stocks make a really good play.

Tops on my list of AE stock has and will continue to be DESC

Distributed Energy Systems Corp. engages in the creation and delivery of products and solutions to the to the decentralized energy markets. The company''s subsidiary, Proton Energy Systems, Inc., engages in the development of technology related to hydrogen production and fuel cell applications. Distributed Energy''s another subsidiary, Northern Power Systems, Inc., engages in the design and integration of projects with an array of technologies, including renewables, combustion, and batteries. It also develops, manufactures, and installs utility grade wind turbines. Its products include EPC services, integrated power systems, on-site power systems, and on-site renewably powered systems. Northern sells its products to domestic and international customers. Distributed Energy Systems Corp. was formed in 1996 and is headquartered in Wallingford, Connecticut.

From a fundamental viewpoint they have achieved profitability this year and the CEO has stated they will continue to grow without dillution of the stock. For the year, DESC is up over 300%.

This pick got Wolf Waved in the last contest but now looks to challenge it's all time high in January

On Tuesday 1-24-06 the energy services company said it expects 2005 revenue to be about double 2004 revenue of $22 million. It also said it expects fourth-quarter results to be better than its year-earlier loss of 11 cents a share.

IVAN- Ivanhoe Energy
I'm going to go with basically the same strategy as last time.  Follow the volume.   I like the oil sector play.  I like the fact that they are in Calif., China, and they have this heavy to light oil conversion technology.  I like the fact that it has retraced for a couple days and I'm hoping to get a good fill price.

BBI - Blockbuster...

Bottom fishing. Broke the long term downtrend...long term descending wedge breakout.  Also has a huge short interest - www.shortsqueeze.com - 25% short % of float. Stock has been beaten up over the past year. Shorts could create a bottom. Institutional interest is still there also...MACD also indicates a possible bottom w/breakout potential.

Very speculative...suits the contest very well

Pick:
[HDY] Hyperdynamics Corporation

Analysis:
The main reason for me picking HDY is because i like the chart. Volume has been staying above average for a good amount of time over the last few months as well as breaking out of a nice looking symmetrical triangle. The day after the breakout of the triangle price action HDY shot up 27% on good volume showing the the market acknowledges the pattern. So im following the markets confirmation and entering into HDY for the contest on monday morning.

My pick is RNAI- Sirna Therapeutics, Inc

RNAI has several drug candidates in clinical and preclinical trials. Recent milestone payments from Eli Lilly and other collaborative agreements with major pharmecutical companies are very encouraging.

RNAI has pulled back from it's recent rally and I believe this stock has more upside left in it, positive update or news may come out soon.

Sirna Therapeutics, Inc., a biotechnology company, develops therapeutics based on RNA interference (RNAi) technology. The company offers RNAi-based therapies for various diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD), hepatitis B and C, dermatology, asthma, Huntington's disease, diabetes, and oncology. It primarily develops Sirna-027 product, a chemically optimized short interfering RNA for the treatment of AMD. Sirna-027 is in Phase 1 clinical trial. The company has strategic partnerships with Eli Lilly and Company, Targeted Genetics, Archemix Corporation, and Protiva Biotherapeutics. Sirna Therapeutics has an agreement with Allergan, Inc. to develop Sirna-027, a Phase I drug to treat age-related macular degeneration.

HEB
Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company, engages in the clinical development and manufacture of drugs for the treatment of viral and immune-based chronic disorders. Ampligen is an a phase 3 trial that I am suggesting may be approved in short order for another treatment of HIV and related diseases. Also, Biotech stocks in general are in favor in the market at present.

1)   Stock Pick

BCON - Beaconpower

Beacon Power is focused on the development and deployment of sustainable energy storage and power conversion solutions. These include photovoltaic (solar energy) inverters, as well as flywheel-based energy storage solutions. Our goal is to further the use of environmentally sound energy-related technology to deliver improved performance and long term value for all company stakeholders. With increasing global awareness of sustainability and related environmental issues, Beacon Power provides high-performance clean alternatives to conventional energy technologies.

2)   Reason behind this pick

- Oil is rising; Alternative Energy is top !
- Chart is shaping up. We recently had a triangle breakout at 1.93.
- Moving against the trend (This friday Nasdaq bloodbad...Bcon was up 1.9%)
- Solar related plays will boom this year
- Bcon is in a longterm up trend and consolidated since 2-3 months. With some news in next weeks this should put the Bcon engine on and rise over the resistence of 2.35.
- The Industry Prepares for Expansion. The California Public Utilities Commission passed the California Solar Initiative (CSI), an historic plan that allots USD $3.2 billion for solar energy rebates in the state for the next 11 years, providing for the installation of approximately 3000 MW of solar energy. Bcon is also a good pick for long term; as future growth with the approved initiative is very much guaranteed for the future. Risk and reward should be very good.

TOP INSTITUTIONAL HOLDERS entered the market (good sign, the investment community sees potential in the future energy market)

1)   SUF(SULPHCO INC) ;)

2)   The reason for my pick is simple, when the chart is on fire, it takes a alot of effort to cool it off. :-*
The chart looks bullish with strong trending up and with steady increasing volumes to support it.  Another strong point is that while overall market head down south in da big way this past week, SUF continues to show strength with big rallies.  Due to the fact that it has something to do with oil & gas. It is a development stage company, engages in the development and commercialization of technology for upgrading and desulfurizing of crude oil and petroleum products. Its Sonocracking process is based upon the use of ultrasonics that include the application of energy and frequency sound waves to effect beneficial changes, such as reduction in the weight percentage of sulfur, as well as a reduction in the parts per million of nitrogen in the chemical composition of crude oil. The company's target customers include crude oil producers and refiners. SulphCo has a collaboration agreement with ChevronTexaco Energy Technology Co. to develop and commercialize Sonocracking ultrasound technology; and a joint venture with Trans Gulf Petroleum Co. to implement SulphCo's Sonocracking desulfurization technology within and outside the UAE. ;D

3)   SUF 3 month chart & its incredible 3 year chart, BREAKING OUT!>:D

Stock pick: RITA (Rita Medical Systems)

The reasons for my pick are totally technical, not fundamental.  I'm basically a short-term technical trader and don't pay a lot of attention to fundamentals.  The stock just broke through the double-top resistance on increasing volume.  I just noticed this stock today when I was looking for a stock breaking out and possibly starting a new uptrend.  I use trend-following as my main technique.  It has been the most successful for me over the 9 months I've been trading.  The MACD is bullish, and the ADX looks like it's on its way up, which would indicate that a trend is in place.  I consider it a trend, even though the ADX is only 20, because it's been bouncing between the 5EMA and the upper bollinger band, even poking through it, which indicates strength.  I'm probably going to buy some of this on Monday.

My pick is Arena Resources, Inc. Ticker ARD. Its listed on AMEX.

1. Fundamentally. The Next UPL.
This one seems to be next UPL [I always doubted its EPS near 50s and was always wrong to underestimate the growth story. Heck I am not repeating the mistake this time]. ARD is one of the fastest growing companies according to IBD. Though it has already booked gains of nearly 300% but I think there is more to come.
Revenue (ttm):                   19.45M
Revenue Per Share (ttm):   1.914
Qtrly Revenue Growth (yoy):   215.40%
EBITDA (ttm):                   13.92M
Qtrly Earnings Growth (yoy):   316.90%
Profit Margin (ttm):                   38.03%
Operating Margin (ttm):   61.24%
Total Debt (mrq):                   400.00K
Shares Outstanding:                   13.06M
% Held by Insiders:                   17.07%
Market Cap (intraday):                    471.54M
Forward P/E (fye 31-Dec-06):   20.40
Mean Recommendation:               1.0

2. Technically: FAST and FURIOUS.
This is one of the best technical play beating both 50 and 200 days averages and trading above its 52 week high. Trend is a friend in play here.
52-Week Change:                   282.01%
S&P500 52-Week Change:   8.02%
52-Week High (20-Jan-06):   36.10
52-Week Low (21-Jan-05):   8.98
50-Day Moving Average:   29.12
200-Day Moving Average:   21.45

3. Speculatively. BLACK GOLD.
There is a mismatch in energy demand and supply. Fast growing economies and delicate international conditions are just the right reasons to bet that crude is heading North or even if it flirts with 70s, its going to put lot of value in the whole Energy sector.

Below is the stock chart showing strong, steady ascend to clear blue skies.

1)   COGO - COMTECH GROUP Inc.

2)   Comtech Group Inc is a leading design solution provider that serves the wireless, telecom equipment and home entertainment industries in China. The Company reported back in November 31% year to date revenue growth. Cash and equivalents increased from $5.0 million in December 2004 to $33.1 in November 2005. Its subsidiary, Comtech Wireless Ltd, also singed a contract with China Telecom. On the same month JMP Securities analyst Krishna Shankar upgraded the stock to "strong buy". In December 2005 Maxim Group initiated Comtech with a "buy" rating.  Most recently Comtech said it has acquired 51% stake in Huameng Engineering Service Ltd. for $2.5 million cash. It also added on its press release the following:

"Comtech expects Huameng to generate meaningful revenue in 2006, and more importantly through Huameng, Comtech will be receiving recurring service revenue with a gross margin over 40 percent, which is significantly higher than the company's current blended margin. The recurring service revenue should improve Comtech's overall margin, visibility and further diversify revenue streams."

3)   On these news the stock broke through $6.66 resistance point on high volume. The short and long term indicators are bullish. The next resistance point is $8.14. With the healthy pull back this past week COGO should now move upwards. The upcoming earnings report should provide a solid idea of where the stock is heading though.

TVIA - TVIA Inc

TVIA is a small cap semiconductor player in a hot end market - Designs, develops and markets display processors for the interactive-television market and HD and SD LCD TVs. They IPO'd in the tech meltdown and their stock has never recovered to IPO levels since. Seem to have some strong management in place with growth and profit goals key to their approach. After double bottom about 9 months back volume and price has increased nicely. Recent trading on strong volume has seen an attempt at new 52 week high (following big pullback during Q4), although as yet only a spike test was achieved. Weekly MACD signals a buy and my thought is it will either blast through the 52 week high zone or create a double top and falter. This is also an earnings play as results are due in early Feb and thought is TVIA may be making traction against bigger competitors.
I have TVIA as a current trade in my own portfolio as my buy was triggered as it created a new 52 week high last week.

My pick is: GOOG

Somebody must have the dullest stock out there! -

The co doesnt need much introduction, i guess

Friday there was a huge sell off, on news and bcz there was a sell-off. GOOG will not stay long under 400 i think - when the indicators turn, shorts will cover - so perfect timing.

VICL - Vical Inc.

Vical has been somewhat of a disappointment the past year but hopefully 2006 will be the year I was looking for last year. They engage in the research and development of biopharmaceutical products for the prevention and treatment of serious or life-threatening diseases. The company focuses on the development of biopharmaceutical product candidates based on its patented deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) delivery technologies - which could turn this company into a cash cow!.

It also develops various DNA-based vaccines and therapeutics for the prevention or treatment of infectious diseases, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. Vical primarily develops its cancer immunotherapeutics, Allovectin-7 and IL-2/Electroporation, as well as a plasmid DNA vaccine for cytomegalovirus. Allovectin-7, which completed its Phase II clinical trials, is a plasmid/lipid complex containing the DNA sequences encoding HLA-B7 and ß2 microglobulin, which together form a Class I Major Histocompatibility Complex antigen. Allovectin-7 is being developed as a treatment for metastatic melanoma, a form of skin cancer. IL-2/Electroporation program that is in Phase 1 clinical testing is a gene-based, electroporation enhanced delivery of interleukin-2, or IL-2, a potent immunotherapeutic agent, as a treatment for solid tumors, with an initial indication in metastatic melanoma.

Vical also develops an anthrax vaccine, which is in Phase 1 clinical testing. The company was incorporated in 1987 and is based in San Diego, California.

I really shouldn't be doing this but I'm going to pick the same stock for the third consecutive contest.  Sorry!   :-\

1)   Stock Pick
ASTM - Aastrom Biosciences Inc.

Aastrom Biosciences, Inc. (NasdaqSC: ASTM) is developing patient-specific products for the repair or regeneration of human tissues, utilizing the Company's proprietary adult stem cell technology.

2)   Reason behind this pick

ASTM is a great company with big potential in the near future.  Their technology uses a fascinating idea in that it uses a person's own stem cells (from bone marrow) to treat severe bone fractures, vascular diseases, jaw bone reconstruction as well as spine fusion.  It has many clinical trials actively going on in both US and in Europe.  Soon they will be opening a manufacturing site in Europe and hoping to rake in big bucks.   Good luck to everyone!

Recent deveopments:
Dr. Armstrong (CEO) recently notified that Aastrom that they should currently seek a new CEO.  However, he will remain chairman of the board of directors.  I really don't know what to make of this news.............to me, it either means that he is stepping down cause Aastrom's technology has been proven and that they are ready for the next stage in the company which is commercialization OR there is really something bad happening within the company that haven't been announced.  Anybody have a take on this??

Aastrom also recently announced the addition of a new director to the board of Directors.  Here is some news on the new addition:

Zerbe Joins:
Robert L. Zerbe, MD, joins the board
April 3rd, 2002

Synaptic Pharmaceutical Corp.

Synaptic Pharm Acquired:
Synaptic Pharmaceutical Completes Its Merger With A Subsidiary of H. Lundbeck A/S

Acquired:

January 5, 2006 [can't get link, you can fin it]

Zerbe joins Corgentech:
AlgoRx and Corgentech Announce Addition of Ninth Board Member to Proposed Board of Directors for Combined Company
SECAUCUS, N.J. and SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Nov 15, 2005

Corgentech Upgraged:
Corgentech upgraded to "market perform"

Wednesday, December 21, 2005 7:51:46 AM ET
Piper Jaffray

Corgentech acquires AlgoRx prior to upgrade:

Lastly: Zerbe's own company recently merged with Hormos Medical Corporation in Finland

Aastrom's pps have not been moving up or down in either direction.  IMO, this company will make a move soon whether it's in the positive direction or the negative direction.  Hopefully not the latter.

VRSO - VERSO TECH INC (NasdaqSC)

I`ll  try again with VRSO, it was up 41% the other day on this news:

Verso Technologies Inc., a maker of telecommunications equipment,
on Thursday said it expects fourth-quarter revenue to grow as much
as 25 percent due to a sales shift toward higher-margin products.

The company estimates revenue will range from $9.4 million to
$9.5 million, compared with year-ago revenue of $7.6 million.
Chief Executive Monty Bannerman said he expects the company to post
"solid revenue growth in 2006 and show operating margin improvement
as Verso continues to focus its sales effort on higher gross margin
applications, coupled with continued tight management of operating
expenses."

Verso plans to report results for the fourth quarter on Feb. 22.

Then perhaps  it`s my turn to get an interview with 3STOCKSonFire ?

My pick for this round is a small cap called AERTA.
AERTA manufactures and markets composite building materials that can be used as an alternative to traditional wood products for certain applications in the construction industry.

Fundamental reason:
The company has been doing very well recently. 2004 their net income was 1.5 millions but so far for 2005 their net income is about 3.4 millions (4 quarter excluded). Recently they announced that  unaudited gross sales for the quarter ended December 31, 2005 were $24 million, up 55% over gross sales of $15.5 million for the quarter ended December 31, 2004.
There was some insider buying late November.

Technical reason:
Recently the stock advanced more than 40% (in less than two weeks) but last Friday they had a very welcomed pullback (with RSI over 85). So I expect it to start climbing soon (maybe this is not a fast enough climber for such a short time frame...).
If it breaks 2.50 I think we could be in for a ride. ;)

MYGN - Myriad Genetics

Myriad Genetics is a leading biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of novel healthcare products. The Company's lead drug candidate, FLURIZAN™, is currently accepting enrollment for a Phase 3 clinical trial in Alzheimer's disease. This compound is also being studied in a Phase 2b clinical trial for prostate cancer therapy. Myriad has a full pipeline of preclinical drug candidates in development and recently started Phase I human clinical trials for two additional cancer drugs, MPC-6827 and MPC-2130. The Company markets hereditary cancer predictive medicine tests to determine the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, colon cancer, endometrial cancer and melanoma skin cancer in individuals with a family history of cancer.

This is an interesting biopharm play with lots of research into cancer and alzheimer's disease.  As positive news continues to come out regarding the current clinical trials, expect nice increases in share price.  I won't bet on winning this contest, but this is definately one to keep your eye on.

I almost re-entered my last contest choice SMSI but decided to take on:
My pick: MEMY
A past 3stocksonfire pick. This company developes drugs for nervous system disorders. Has 5 drugs in clinical & preclinical stages. Has agreements with F. Hoffman LaRoche, Amgen, and Stanley Medical. Big Insider purchases in Sept. Recent Institutional buy interest +3.8 mil shares. But it's the current TA that has me interested. MACD- Bullish; Strong uptrend: Relative Strength-Bullish; Up/Down volume shows stock under accumulation; 50 day MA-Bullish. Friday's close highest since Oct 5th 2005. Broke 2.50 resistence. Closed above 200 day SMA. Close above 3.25 could be hugh. Earnings should be out during contest period but I'm looking for more trial results. If I get them I might finish this race.

My pick for the third contest is TMTA.  Good MACD with solid bounce off of 200 dma a couple weeks ago and a break of the 50 dma and a descending wedge.  Also had a golden cross a few months ago.  Has solid support at 1.40 and 1.25 and little resistance until 1.80 or 1.85.  Some solid volume recently.  Good upward movement over past few weeks with no earnings to ruin it.  Recent news has been neutral and fundamentals are improving with very little debt.  Hoping the trend continues and looking for a move towards 1.80 during the next month before any pull back.

I dont know what happened but I posted my pick : MPET and nothing was posted, so here I go again.

My pick is MPET: Magellan Petroeum Company. It has to be OIL; consider BMD again after 60 minutes tonight, and NENG my last pick which would have put me into Top 3 if I had one more week, but for rocket fuel I pick MPET this time.

MPET is:

Magellan Petroleum Corporation engages in the exploration, development, production, and sale of oil and gas reserves. The company, through its subsidiary, Magellan Petroleum Australia Limited, owns interest in various properties, including Mereenie Oil and Gas Field, Palm Valley Gas Field, Nockatunga Oil Fields, Dingo Gas Field, Browse Basin, Maryborough Basin, and Cooper/Eromanga Basin in Australia. It also holds interest in various oil and gas properties in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. In addition, the company has a 2.67% direct interest in the Kotaneelee gas field in the Yukon Territory of Canada. Magellan Petroleum Corporation was incorporated in 1957 and is based in Hartford, Connecticut.

MPET owns 55% of MAG in Australia; MAG owns 30% of Udacha JV which is closing in on 2.3 NEW miilion barrels of oil any day. Udacha drilling is to 2775 m, and they are at 2188mm tonight. If this hits big it will be int he next few days (may even be tonight so I may be to late by the AM as opening wil pop), but given the oild situation I have to go with this, I expect to get to $3 this week and $4 before contest end to break out over July 2005 highs. Also, largest volume since ept 2005 on Friday with sharp move up to close at 2.23, up .31 on Friday. The chart speaks for itself.

My Pick: BDCO

Name:    BLUE DOLPHIN ENERGY COMPANY

Reason:  BDCO is in the business of oil & gas and I would say is highly speculative, so this selection is purely technical.  Since october has a major descending trend line which broke on jan. 17.  And is doing a minor uptrend during this year.  Last friday had a great 8.66 % move with important volume (I hope that tomorrow the open price be with gap down  ;) ;D).  The MACD is ready to cross the Zero line and the EMA (13) was crossed too.  Also the 1 year chart is showing a symetric triangle almost ready for a better break out.

See the 6 and 3 months charts:

TranSwitch Corporation designs, develops, markets and supports highly integrated digital and mixed-signal semiconductor solutions for the telecommunications and data communications markets. The company's mixed-signal and digital design capability, in conjunction with its telecommunications systems expertise, enables the company to determine and implement optimal combinations of design elements for desired analog and digital functionality.

I am jumping on the same horse again. Similar to the last time I picked it, it has rising bottoms, higher lows with volume support. This indicates that the optimism is still there. It has again broken through a small rising wedge and with the pull back on Friday it should be a better buy point than Dec 12 was. Majour resistance at $2.01. The earnings and conference call comes on Jan 25th. Hopfully it is all green lights and it goes throught that resistance and on to last Junes highs of $2.50. Or dare I dream higher?????

In real life I would never buy 2 days before earnings, learnt that leason long ago. But in this contest you have to go for the fences. Too many good chartwatchers out there.

Good Luck

My pick is WGATE

I'm bottom fishing with this one. The chart shows a triple bottom. That could mean right here and now is a good entry point. The chart also shows a descending triangle, so it might be safer to wait for a close above the descending trendline. However, I don't have the luxury of waiting since I have to submit a pick before the open tomorrow! The last two times WGAT fell to this level the stock rallied hard, so I'm placing my bet it happens again.

The 'E' at the end of WGAT's ticker is because they haven't filed their Sept 30 10-Q. I hope they get their filings in order in the next month, as that could boost the stock price and help me in this contest.

WorldGate Communications, Inc. (WGAT) engages in the development, manufacture, and distribution of video phones for personal and business use. The company primarily offers Ojo video phone, which is useful for video calls, ordinary voice only calls, as well as voice over Internet protocol calls.

Other stocks I considered for this edition of the contest: UDRL, DOC, CUP, TIII

My Pick:  HANS

Reason:  Hanson Natural Corp has been a stock on fire for a long time.  In fact, the long term chart shows that it has gone vertical!  Accelerated revenue growth and other strong fundamentals have kept people coming to the stock even through downturns in the market.  Even Friday saw only a 1.3% decline in the stock while the broader markest sold off.  I also looked at TIII but picked HANS because of the continued outstanding revenue growth, the fact that they report earnings during the contest and the high short interest which should result in a nice squeeze play before contest end.  The last time this broke $100/sh it consolidated for a couple of months so this may not be on fire for a week or 2 but I'm counting on a kick early to mid February as earnings release approaches.

Avanex Corp.  (AVNX)

My Pick is Avanex - after a very strong run in December when the share price more than doubled, and had a brief spell on 3SOF for a good run, AVNX gave up a chunk of its gains after announcing at the beginning of Jan that Q2 revenues would be below expectations.  Since this announcement AVNX has been trading within a 1.00-1.20 range - I think that this news is now priced in, and should not provide any seriously bad surprises.  AVNX is a turnaround play in a strong industry - just look at recent moves by competitors such as JDSU - with expectations of losses decreasing over the next few quarters and achieving profitability by the end of the year.  There were previously some concerns about delisting from the NASDAQ due to the share price dropping below $1, but I see solid suppport around $1, so not too much downside risk.  I wouldn't be surprised to see AVNX break 1.20 again in the coming month and make a run towards recent highs just below 1.50.

IPIX    IPIX Corporation

This used to be named Internet Pictures - they make software and sell cameras for the real estate market to do virtual tours of homes and for the security market. They are not making a profit yet and this is a technical play as it has broken out of a 6-month downtrend after showing positive MACD divergence for three months. This was all set up but broke a little too soon for contest but has pulled back so lets give it a try.

Last Thursday when bin Laden released his tape stocks like this and TBUS made a big day trade gain and that is not really good for the chart as when the day traders exit the stock drops. They stock made its first target in just 2 days because of this so got oversold fast. Perhaps in the month it will have time to consolidate and make a new move to the first target and maybe a break higher.

At the moment the stochastics are above 80 and RSI hit 70 so was overbought. If buying it for your own account see how this consolidation behaves and note support now at about $2.

1) UMC   UNITED MICROELECTRONICS

2) United Microelectronics Corporation operates as a semiconductor foundry in Taiwan. It manufactures integrated circuits for fabless design companies, integrated device manufacturers, and system companies operating in various industries, such as communication, consumer electronics, computer, and memory.

Reason for pick:
Volume steadily increasing.
Uptrend since making a bottom in late October.
Two tries at breaking through 200 day ma - third time should be a "charm".
Slow stochastics show it 80% oversold therefore good entry point.
20-Jan-06   Goldman Sachs   Upgrade from In-Line   to Outperform
Semiconductor sector should strenghthen and the big two Taiwan companies are undervalued here.

1) Analyst's Intl. Corp.   (ANLY)

2) I believe analyst has reached a solid base with good growth potential from here. They have just fallen this summer after a failed merger attempt and are in the process of regaining some footing. The industry is in a good position for consolidation and Analyst has had a relatively strong history.

3) Chart

My pick: DIET

Explanation: DIET and NTRI were basically equal size competitors 6 months ago. At that time NTRI initiated a food delivery service and revenues increased almost 5 fold (the stock price rose about 4 fold). At the 5th of January 2006 DIET also started its food delivery service and I believe it will achieve about the same results as NTRI, or better.

Technically, the stock is enjoying an ascending trend. DIET is my pick for the Stock Picking Contest, wish me luck  :)

NEXM - NexMed

This stock has reached a double bottom and seems to be bouncing back.  It has been in a descending trend for about 4 months now.  And now it is making a comeback.  Recently announced on Jan 12 that it just named a new CEO.  I guess ppl are looking for a turnaround.  I expect it to continue to break out of a descending wedge.  VOlume has really picked up over the last few days to give it some momentum.

Profile. - NexMed, Inc., a pharmaceutical and medical technology company, engages in the design, development, manufacture, and commercialization of therapeutic products based on proprietary delivery systems

SCU (Storm Cat Energy)

Storm Cat is a fundamental play, which I believe is going to rise sharply as the price of natural gas sky rockets, and we realize that there is a significant supply problem.

The Company:

The company is focused on Coal Bed Methane (CBM), a gas derivative of coalfields. This provides an alternative method of getting natural gas, and should get a lot of attention as the natural gas crisis unfolds.

Storm Cat has an all star management lineup, and I truly believe that they are dedicated to seeing Storm Cat emerge as a significant player in the natural resources arena.

From the company website:  http://www.stormcatenergy.com

Storm Cat Energy is a rapidly growing exploration company focusing on developing unconventional natural gas reserves globally. Our mission is to create value for our shareholders by applying strong technical expertise to strategies that will unlock substantial natural gas resources in areas where production can be achieved quickly and efficiently.

Storm Cat Energy Corporation was founded expressly for recovering liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons from unconventional reservoirs. By definition, these tight sandstones, coal seams, and organic rich shales need artificial stimulation in order to produce economic quantities of petroleum. Importantly, these reservoirs have been neglected in many parts of the world for decades. Consequently, numerous and substantial business opportunities exist as many companies do not have adequate knowledge in order to cope with unconventional reservoir behavior. These unconventional hydrocarbon sources require extensive technical knowledge from both geological and engineering perspectives, and by careful design, Storm Cat has assembled a technical team second-to-none in, at least, North American petroleum circles.

Storm Cat's technical program is and always has been threefold;  1 - acquire low-risk producing properties in already-proven unconventional reservoir regions for much-needed cash flow,
2 - participate/operate in moderate risk endeavors, in which, by definition, chances are good for ultimate success, and
3 - initiate higher risk, high-reward projects for purposes of exponential company growth, starting with our recent and exciting new CBM contract with the Petroleum Authority of Mongolia.

We are pleased the low and medium risk endeavors are being avidly pursued especially in terms of outright purchase of producing properties, or in forming a joint venture with other companies. The low risk program is being pursued within the continental United States, where unconventional production is already well-established from coal seams (coalbed methane) or is growing rapidly in terms of gas shale recovery. While the purchase price of these properties remains high due to the current petroleum demand and concomitant pricing, Storm Cat has a great deal to offer in terms of technical help for potential partner companies not possessing the same degree of expertise.

Storm Cat staff has targeted moderate risk opportunities in western Canada where several companies possess significant acreage holdings in Alberta and British Columbia, but again, have a very inadequate background in comprehension of these complex reservoir types. Storm Cat's Calgary office is approaching several such companies currently, and we expect to finalize one or more formal agreements shortly.

Management's objective is to create value for shareholders through a focused strategy of acquiring large scale undeveloped unconventional gas properties and applying state of the art technologies in view of establishing significant long term resource base of natural gas. Importantly, one of management's goals is to operate obtain one of the industry's lowest and most efficient cost structures.
Further, Storm Cat's corporate strategy is to focus on enhancing the value of quality exploration properties with a view to joint venturing certain properties to third party companies. Joint ventures will be utilized to increase our exposure to success, but only at the optimal time so as to maximize shareholder value.
The financial statements of the company are available on the website sedar.com, a website developed by the Canadian Depository for Securities to make public securities filings easily accessible.
