TQNT - TriQuint Semiconductor Inc.
Sector: Technology
Industry: Semiconductor - Integrated Circuits
mkt cap: 745.78 Million
Profile: TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc. supplies modules, components, and foundry services to communications companies worldwide.hmm?
Website: http://www.triquint.com/
Reason for trade:
- Technical breakout with volume(charts below).
- Support close by.. able to place tight stop.
- Earnings Run Trend(April 17-27..uncertain)
- Semiconductor sector may be getting strong again.
- Qtr revenue growth seems strong.
So here we have a semiconductor with a rectangular breakout on strong rising volume. Earning are soon and so we are looking for an earnings trend run( a price rise before earnings are out) We plan to be out of this position before earnings. The semiconductor sector may be heating up and this stock is first out of the gate. ;)
We will buy TQNT @ mkt open.
Applaud G, for your persistence and great work. Keep them coming.
Good pick.
Semi and tech stocks will start its run the next few weeks.
Many companies will report good earnings.
I bought many semi stocks last week. Top ten performers are:
1. TXCC
2. EMKR
3. SWKS
4. AXTI
5. LSCC
6. CTLM
7. QUIK
8. HLIT
9. PMCS
10. ACTS
There are many others: ATML, ASTSF, VTSS, BRCD, SUNW, ... just too many.
I guess you have TQNT and MSPD but CNXT and OMNI also similar setups that also have broken out recently
We bought TQNT @ 5.33.
i'm in. I like it. Thanks G.

In as well at 5.31
Looks like another pivot bounce ( hoping) ::)
In at $5.27 and target is for a 10% gain in April. If it has 10% gain, will not let the profit gone.
Look at the chart, this stock usually traded in a channel. Hardly go straight up.
Good entry: $5.05.
It is one of the dream stocks for day traders.
Also, metal stocks and gold stocks are still very hot and should be the top choices for 2006.
We have EZM and had TGB (a mistake to exit).
China's demand for resources are very very strong mainly for the hot housing sector.
As the average income for most Chinese gone up sharply in recent years, they want to have a better living. Better home is their top choice. Home contruction comsumes a lot of materials and this drives copper, aluminum, ... price up sharply and the trend will keep up for at least most of this year.
Other hot stocks in material sector: KRY, VGZ, GRZ, WTZ, GLG, HL, ... just name a few.
update TQNT:
Semis and the market sold off Friday but TQNT remains high in the price pattern. An aggressive trendline(magenta) may provide strong support. The psych number 5 should also help out. Lets see TQNT move out this week.
We will hold TQNT unless it closes below 4.8.

Position: bought TQNT @ 5.33 on 4/07/2006

update TQNT:
TQNT, the semis and the market all moved heavily downward. It is time to sell. The timing on this earnings run was off. I tried to catch a semiconductor rally before there was one :-X.. lesson learned(price = ow). Although TQNT remains above our intended exit we do not want to hold a spot in our portfolio with this weak sector.
We will sell TQNT in the morning.
TQNT is looking heathy....:D

TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc. Announces First Quarter Revenue Growth
Tuesday April 25, 4:05 pm ET
HILLSBORO, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 2006--TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc. (Nasdaq:TQNT - News), a supplier of high performance products for communications applications, today reported its financial results for the quarter ended March 31, 2006.
Summary Financial Results and Highlights for the Quarter Ended March 31, 2006:
Revenues from continuing operations for the first quarter ended March 31, 2006, totaled $87.9 million, an increase of 31% from the first quarter of 2005 and an increase of 4% from the previous quarter.
Net income for the first quarter of 2006 was $2.2 million including equity compensation expense of $2.3 million. Earnings for the first quarter of 2006 were $0.02 per diluted share. Our results for the quarter ended March 31, 2006, reflect the effect of the adoption of Statement of Financial Accounting Standards ("SFAS") No. 123®, which became effective for our company on January 1, 2006. Excluding our SFAS No. 123® expense of $2.3 million, our earnings for the quarter ended March 31, 2006, improved to $0.03 per diluted share.
Gross margin for the quarter ended March 31, 2006, equaled 30.3%, including equity compensation expense, and 31.1%, without equity compensation expense, up 2.4% from gross margin of 28.7% in the fourth quarter of 2005. This increase was primarily due to yield improvements.
Operating expenses for the first quarter of 2006 were $25.4 million including equity compensation expense of $1.5 million. Excluding equity compensation expense, our operating expenses for the first quarter of 2006 were $23.9 million, an increase of $2.2 million from the fourth quarter of 2005. The increase was due to increases in research and development spending of $1.8 million and sales, general and administrative spending of $0.4 million.
Cash, cash equivalents and short and long term marketable securities were $392.0 million as of March 31, 2006, compared to $406.7 million as of December 31, 2005. Cash flow from operations for the first quarter of 2006 was $1.6 million. During the quarter we repurchased $4.7 million of stock, made a $3.8 million payment related to our 2005 acquisition of TFR Technologies, Inc., and acquired $10.4 million in capital assets. Depreciation and amortization expense was $8.0 million. EBITDA was $9.2 million and pro forma EBITDA, excluding equity compensation expense was $11.5 million.
We continued our strong bookings during the quarter with a book-to-bill ratio of 1.2 to 1.0 for the quarter ended March 31, 2006.
Commenting on the results for the quarter ended March 31, 2006, Ralph Quinsey, President and CEO, stated, "In the first quarter of 2006, we reached the high end of our revenue guidance and exceeded our earnings guidance. The favorable results validate our progress towards our long term goals of innovation, profitable growth and market share gains in our target markets. Due to our new product success our revenue outlook for 2006 is improving. I am also pleased to report that we have received the Preferred Supplier Platinum Award from Lockheed Martin. This prestigious award is made only to Lockheed Martin suppliers who distinguish themselves by meeting some of the most stringent performance criteria in the aerospace industry. We are honored to be a recipient."
Outlook for the Second Quarter of 2006:
Revenues for the second quarter of 2006 are expected to increase 8% to 10% from the first quarter of 2006 due to increased sales of wireless phones and broadband products. Gross margin is expected to improve due to increased capacity utilization and yields partially offset by increased operating expenses. We are projecting earnings per share for the second quarter of 2006 to range from $0.01 to $0.02 per diluted share including equity compensation expense of approximately $2.6 million. Excluding equity compensation expense charges associated with SFAS No. 123®, we are projecting earnings of $0.03 to $0.04 per diluted share.
Outlook for 2006:
Revenues for 2006 are expected to increase 34% to 37% over 2005 revenues. Earnings per share for 2006 including equity compensation expense are expected to be $0.08 to $0.13 and $0.16 to $0.20 excluding equity compensation expense.
Tomorrow should be an interesting day.....
Happy trading..

This tread seem to be the most recent one .
TQNT : I bought this stock yesterday @5.09 because of all the excellant news that's been coming out about them with a new up grade on Feb 9th from buy to market perform and another on same day from hold to buy.
It is now set up to possible breakout out if it can get above 5.28 and 5.45 resistance and stay to confirm breakout with no resistance from above. Yesterdays close was 5.15 I might see the breakout next week. As life gives us certain duties that comes first I'm not going to be able to watch the market today . I don't think this one will be one for a quick play but a play to use trailing stop loss and look for breakout .
