Title: Short Picks - Down to the Ground.
Post by: eliteG on June 09, 2005, 12:58:45 AM
I'm gonna try posting short picks in this thread.   >:D  Lets see how they pan out.  Feel free to add on, comment, question whatever  8) its all cool.

*note:
my picks are completely technical chart based shorting, no news or story or earnings research, the only thing I watch is that <20% of float is shorted:
and the stock is not on hard to borrow list:
*also I try to pick only NASDAQ stocks

Here we go.  Down to the ground.  >:D >:D >:D

I'll watch your short picks with interest. I'm not a great shorter and tend to leave that to the following times-  a) Full on BEAR situations or b) when you have ridden a super momo stock up, sell your long position then short (should the chart indicate it's turning over). Being able to short is a great asset to have in any traders skill set. By the way, I like the black charts, I guess as a reminder to yourself they are shorts?

Aussie, I know you know your technicals.  Just look at some charts upside down and you're basically ready to short...lol.

Black charts for some variety...but thats a good idea.

Elite-
I must say, I love this idea. Especially for those of us who are not as adept at chart reading as you and some of the other lads. FWIW I think this mini bull run is about to fizzle, and that's a great time to start shorting stocks that are overbought . I also believe that far too many traders neglect this aspect of trading , because our natural instincts are to want a stock to move UP rather than down. If this market does start to turn down, shorting is THE safest way to make money.  Looking forward to more!

This is a great idea, specially for those (like me) who are scared to short. Maybe because  I got burned more times than I care to remember. Will help me positively.

Elite-

Have you given a look at AAPL? I shorted some recently and covered Friday for a small gain. It has that rounding top with crumbling-like weakness on the right side like I remember with ADCT some years ago. Characteristic of distribution, IMO.

Let me know what you think

PS I love the short thread inaddition to the long

"There is only one side of the market and it is not the bull side or the bear side, but the right side."
Jesse Livermore

Hi EliteG,

This quote from Livermore, just says that we should look into short investments just the same way we look to long positions ;)

Great initiative !

PS: About the black charts, I find them the best for technical analysis, I've been using them a few years ago ;)

gonna add CSGS, CNET and ALGN(again) to the possible short list(GNSS, APCS, CYBS on short watch too).  May not have time to get the charts up.  I will get a spreadsheet up and running to show the entry price and stops I am using.  Hopefully this'll end up..er down  ;) good.  Good trading everyone.   >:D

man thats a beautiful chart calven, but and its a big one...volume of 2300 on fridays session?.  Definately cannot short that.  I look for at least 300k when shorting and I prefer over 500k.  I'll definately watch it, though, thx.  ;)

:)  EliteG,

Thank you for all of your DD and charting expertise.   I like the chart formations of the stocks you selected for going short.

Of all the selections, I liked the CMVT as the stock for me to short tomorrow.  Stochastics are headed down and the Money Flow Index is falling pretty well.

If you look for "cooked-books"
If you look for companies that tend to "surprise" their investors
If you look for companies who's short interest increase by over 30% while the price increase
If you look for a company with a lot of "meat" to short (currently $31 --- target is around $10)

Then ... consider TARO!

pls check the following posts on TARO MB:

TARO looks like a great short.  thx - stockpicker(applauded).  I will add it to the list today but I wish it had more volume.

The stop in AAPL should show 37.55 and remains there for now.  I will change the stop lower today.

Everybody else heading down nicely.  >:D

Holding off PDLI at the moment.

Hi, eliteG

When I subscribed a couple of days ago, and I browsed through the board I was really impressed, and happy to see such a nice place (beside many other mud holes on the web).

However I saw only longs, nothing short.

As I am already long subscriber to shortpicks I had the idea to introduce to David or Frederick a board like "3stocksgettingcold" or similar.

Well, as you realized the Idea faster, the credit shall be yours.  :)
Please continue keeping posting. Its not all day sunshine.

I remember a saying in my circle:

Manchmal must'e auch mal short,
ansonsten sind die Mäuse fort.

(Sometimes you have to go short
otherwise your bugs will disappear)

Regards

andyman

Hey andyman  ;)

Thx, it takes some work.  Feel free to post short picks here and start your own list or even a new topic like this if you want.  Hope to hear some good plays soon.

An interesting saying...  ;D

Welcome aboard.   8)

I did not short TARO although it went down nicely.  It was a bad short picks day.  I'm going back to formula.  My belief is that there are always stocks to short.  Of course there are better times to do this at.  Will not be updating this for a while.  Who knows maybe I'llhave a new "formula" by next week.

Good trading,

In retrospect, PDLI looks like a complex head and shoulder formation preceded by a rectangle.  June looks like a pennant, a pullback, and a brakeout.  Chart formations haven't been working normally this year...this is not 2002/2003 for sure.
