Got the pick from the Stock Picking Board, eliteG gave it (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=546.new#new) (but the responsability is all mine).
Looking for two more on that board !
::)
Would you believe that I sold DSTI yesterday at $7.11? >:(
I have been holding it for months, and finally got fed up.
At least I got into something else that's moving upward: WFR. ;D
I do believe that there are a lot of $ to be made in Alternative Energy.
Applauded both you and eliteG. Whats the target in your mind for this?
cumulina, you got to learn something out of this: buyback a stock you've sold if you conclude that you were wrong about selling.
I should have said this immediately after your post but I hesitated. Look at what I've done with ECST: bought at $4.20 and sold with a 10% loss. Then the stock shot up again, and I bought it back at a much higher price, at $5.25. Now the stock is at $5.65 and rising ... I have an open profit of almost 8%.
I'm not saying for you to buy now that DSTI is up 56%, but you should learn how to recognize mistakes and correct them promptly. That applies to when we buy and the stock goes down (mistake) or when we sell and the stock shots up (mistake). If we buy and the stock goes down we must sell to correct the mistake. If we sell and the stock goes up we must buy to correct that mistake.
But now forget about this stock, the market will always be there and oportunities like this show up almost every day ... you take care cumulina :-*
good pick ,any body folowing GEOI ,ABLE and how high will dsti go ,and why did you pick that particular stock
Our user members gave me dozens of picks to consider. I've analyzed about 40 of them. I choose this pick from eliteG because:
1) Volume above average
2) White candle (last price above the open price)
3) Bullish trend
4) Breakout to new 52 week highs
Please read this post: How to find stocks on fire (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=505.0)
Thank you !
Dear David.
Don't you think that I'm banging my head against the keyboard in frustration over having sold DSTI?
I'm learning, I'm learning! I promise! ;D
Untill DSTI presents itself a little lower, I'll hang on to the other good A/E shares I have.
ESLR and ENER are also worth looking at. (I'm keeping those!)
One I'm watching also is: SPIR - it have had some trouble, but seems to be getting back on track. Still low volume though.
Have a good evening.
cumulina, I'm sorry if I'm a bit annoying, but I have to say this clearly:
Your mistake wasn't selling DSTI. Your mistake was not buying it back immediately when you perceived you were wrong about selling. I would have sold with you too. But I would have bought it back, altough at a much higher price (I know this is so hard, but it usually pays)
Specially psychologically it pays. Instead of banging your head against the keyboard you're in the stock hoping it will go higher ... and it usually does. You come out of this stronger than ever. Don't miss the next chance to do this, I know it is very hard, specially when you have a fundamental, not technical, background.
I've learned it from day trading the DAX futures. You can't imagine how a man must change perspective and fight to beat that game.
Considering DSTI, I'll sell at today's open. The stock rose 61% after passing through the former highs and enormous short covering hit the market. The news is out, I don't know if it will rise further but I'll take my profits today, DSTI is not a stock to move 61% in one day and continue that move, I believe.
Just let me thank again eliteG. This man caught the essential of the game of speculation. With the right diversification he will definitely prosper. Just beware of the common mistakes a man does, and watch their brothers, sisters and cousins ... they never tire and are always on the hunt for your money.
No, you are not annoying :-*
Good for you w. the fine profit on DSTI.
My hat off for eliteG!
It'll be fun to watch the action today.
I can promise you that I'm paying more attention to things now.... ;)
Thank you cumulina ;)
Thanks David ;)
Lets see what DSTI dishes out today...a gap down that recrosses the high would look very strong IMO.
Just one perfectionist call: a gap down only occurs when the open is below the previous day's low. You don't believe a gap down will occur in DSTI, do you? I guess you meant: «if the stock opens lower ...»
I agree with you, a lower open may set the stage for a advance to positive territory on the intraday, that's when I'll sell.
Good luck eliteG, and thanks !
To me a gap down is simply when the price opens lower because a gap forms on most intraday charts...I have also begun calling it a gap down when it opens within the body on a day chart.
This is definately gonna be one to watch...I wonder how it will act on dips.
Rock and roll, Randolph ;)
Sold DSTI @ $11.30
Damn it, looks like I sold too soon ... that's life.
Just putting today's trades on the homepage and I'll head to the beach with my kid, really don't like to be watching the intraday when I have such pleaseant alternatives 8)
See you later :)
wow she's still going..1/2 out @ 12.20...love trailing stops ;)
have a great day David...this was an excellent trade no matter how you look at it. :)
just looking at DSTI's business characteristics as well as its trading patterns this may turn out to be short/long term value. 8million in diltion potential just around the corner (to raise capital of $60M). Question for u trading gurus; does dilution events influence ur trading decisions?
I am pasting a chart of HANS which has similar business characteristics (not in the same business!) and may have similar trading characteristics. Also while trading, can I compare 2 stocks in 2 different industries i.e HANS vs DSTI?
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=HANS&t=5y&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=
I've made a terrible mistake when I considered that DSTI couldn't move very fast. I've made a two day trade in it (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=547.0), back in the beginning of June (following an eliteG recommendation - he's the Man), and sold it with just 21% profit if I remember correctly.
But DSTI has a very low market cap of just $57M, although the stock is currently trading around $16 a share. Given the astonishing volume I expect DSTI to step on new ground above $17 this week:
With oil price so high no surprise DSTI products are getting more interest and demand:
«Daystar Technologies, Inc. (DSTI). The Group's principal activity is to develop thin-film, copper-indium-gallium-selenide solar cell, known as a CIGS solar cell, for the direct conversion of sunlight into electricity. It is also developing a high-volume manufacturing process that could reduce the cost of solar cell production and reduce the cost of solar electricity. The Prototypes of CIGS cells, produced in batches in the laboratory, have been used on a test basis by the United States Air Force Research Laboratory and Dutch Space B.V. The Group, through its subsidiary, DayStar Solar LLC, resells and installs solar electricity systems for residential customers in northern California. The Group operates in the domestic market.»
(This analysis was part of the Top 10 for Tuesday (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=1436.msg8539#msg8539) thread. At the end of the thread I've decided to buy DSTI (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=1436.msg8646#msg8646) for the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio)
I've started this new thread so later I can update the DSTI analysis everyday after the close until I sell the stock.
I guess I was wrong about the short term on DSTI. I could have bought this much better :-\
Anyway, I'll design a simple trading plan for DSTI:
1) Cut the losses if the stock closes below that blue short term ascending trendline, which today will stand at $13.72.
2) Sell with a profit if we get a breakout at the technical target of that supposed breakout, which is $16.89-$11.57 = $22.21
Again, the same trading plan on DSTI:
1) Cut the losses if the stock closes below that blue short term ascending trendline, which today will stand at $14.45.
2) Sell with a profit if we get a breakout at the technical target of that supposed breakout, which is $16.89-$11.57 = $5.32+$16.89 = $22.21
its on the move dont know why ???
Amazing breakout on DSTI, and the technical target of this breakout is $24.87 :o
Definitely holding DSTI !
The breakout didn't hold ... but the uptrend is still in place, so I'll continue to hold DSTI, hoping for a decisive push higher !
The ascending trendline support for DSTI is today at $15.34. The stock apparently made a false breakout, and that's not good. But the trend is more important than short term signals, that maybe are just noise. And the trend is strongly bullish, so I'll hold DSTI.
DSTI made it's fourth trip to support and it is now absolutely ready to shoot for a higher stage. The stock climbed about 1% in after hours trading.
I'm getting a bit worried about DSTI. That false breakout was no good. And it is possible for we to have some kind of double top in the making.
I'll give just one more chance to DSTI, today the stock can't go down, or I'll sell at tomorrow's open.
The trades in DSTI today was weird!
What can be going on with this stock ???
Is it manipulation, or what?
Yep a false breakout for DSTI and it broke 9ema support but found it at the 33ema. It's progress seems to go in spurts of nice white candle 4 day or so pullback nice white candle. I was caught off gaurd by the depth of this pullback and I didn't have the right stop in place, else I'd be out by now. But I am still in and will watch Tuesday action to see, if it doesn't consolidate or form a white I'll probably be selling.
What an ugly and bearish day on
DSTI. Promised a bullish breakout and made this horrible technical bearish signal.
No doubt I'll be selling at today's open. Well, chasing stocks higher doesn't always work, like it did with VPHM and DCEL. I'll take my loss and move on.
On the last analysis I said:
QuoteI'm getting a bit worried about DSTI. That false breakout was no good. And it is possible for we to have some kind of double top in the making.
I'll give just one more chance to DSTI, today the stock can't go down, or I'll sell at tomorrow's open.
My mistake was to say sell only at today's open, because this stock is so momentum driven that a break of the ascending trendline, even just on the intraday, would bring in a lot of sellers with big profits on their hands to take.
So, when I'm suspicious about a stock I should sell at the minimum technical signal, not wait for the confirmation on close.
great trade and exercise of disipline . DSTI dumped as CAFE news of formal SEc investigation came out . All the big runners dumped on the news , CTTY,DSTI etc. Guess they were afraid the same fate could occur with any super high flyer imo.
The success of strategy is not based on a signal trade.
I'm into this stock at 13.90 on the pullback. When you look at the small float (2.4m) and 28% short interest, it's not hard to see how the MMs moved this down.
Class A Warrants are redeemable next week, so when those sell, I see a floor around 13.70 and the buyers coming back in.
Thoughts?
I made a killing off DSTI from 10.50 and sold at 14.75.
Back in now at $14 and I'm pretty sure there will be another spike to $16 at some point in the future. If not, this area seems like a pretty lolw risk area to hold.
DSTI up 5% this AM.
Was oversold and should run up this week ahead of their earnings announcement.
May be a good time to jump back on the short term train
Closed up 10.76% for the day - great momentum for the rest of the week as it leads into it's 10Q release on Monday.
There really is a perfect storm brewing for this stock: oversold condition, the Energy Bill Signing, and now a short squeeze (28% of float as of July 12) as they lead into earnings.
I'll watch the momentum and as it reaches a crescendo and sell by close Friday.
Lots of alternative energy stocks did great today.
I'd love to buy DSTI again, couldn't get in today, though.
I'd also be a bit wurried about holding over next week...
I'll hope for a dip later, I think. ;)
Cheers.

As would I, hence my plan to sell by Friday.
Based on today's action I'm thinking a good sell target is around $16.30 though the action may dictate otherwise.
I'll be back in when the action settles, as I believe this company has great long term potential
Today some pep-talk about DSTI:

And it seems like it will open with a gap up...
Looks like an interesting day!
I bought in at 13.60 this morning, and it's already over 14.-
Nice!
It's DSTI-time again! ;) I bought back in at 10.13 today.
Today's news:
DayStar Technologies Honored With Frost & Sullivan`s 2005 Technology Innovation of the Year Award
October 25, 2005 08:31:31 (ET)
HALFMOON, N.Y., Oct 25, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- DayStar Technologies, Inc. (DSTI, Trade), a developer and manufacturer of proprietary high performance photovoltaic (PV) products, announced today that Frost & Sullivan has selected the Company as the recipient of its 2005 Technology Innovation of the Year Award. The Award recognizes DayStar's significant contributions toward the commercialization of CIGS (copper-indium-gallium-diselenide) photovoltaic cells.
"We are honored to be recognized for our innovative development and contributions to the photovoltaic market," said Dr. John Tuttle, President and CEO of DayStar Technologies. "This Award further validates our technical achievements and ongoing dedication to reach gigawatt scale production of Photovoltaic Foil(TM) and deliver on the promise of pervasive solar energy."
Frost & Sullivan has recognized DayStar for its pioneering efforts toward new research resulting in innovations that have or are expected to bring significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption, change and competitive posture.
"DayStar's innovative approach has the potential to meet the three primary desired attributes of solar cell technology: performance/reliability, form-factor (flexible/durable/lightweight) and cost. Many other solar cell technologies meet only one or two attributes," said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Viswanathan Krishnan. The Award will be presented at the Frost & Sullivan 2005 Best Practices Awards Banquet on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 in Miami, Florida.
For long - time - investing I can't reccommend DSTI!
But for the active trader, there are many good reasons to keep it on the watchlist.
DSTI is at it AGAIN! :D
The topic title "A real mover" still applies to DSTI, but now it is DOWN big time!
This have in the past been a momentum-stock, and is on many watchlists. Any movement (like today's) could send it up.
So today I went "bottom-fishing". >:D Bought at 3.69 >:D
I don't expect DSTI to reach former hights right away, it's having some real problems. (Something with money, loan or something-or-other... Hopefully one of you bright minds on this board will try and check it out for me!)
But I do see the company trying to fight it, and I have for a long time been interested in solar-energy.
From http://smallcap.seekingalpha.com/article/22495 I got this:
DayStar Technologies: A Rock Bottom Stock That Will Bounce Back
Posted on Dec 15th, 2006 with stocks: DSTI
Rick Dean submits: DayStar Technologies (DSTI) is an emerging developer and manufacturer of low cost, high efficiency thin film solar cell products that convert sunlight into electricity. The firm manufactures thin film solar cells which are attached to metal foil using a process originally developed for manufacturing computers. DayStar's products are marketed as an alternative to conventional silicon wafer cells. The company claims its proprietary manufacturing process will lower production costs and make large-scale deployment of solar energy feasible.
DayStar has a producing factory and its now shipping solar cells to customers. According to a recent press release, the company recently retooled its manufacturing process and increased efficiency by 60 percent. About 1700 Gen II solar cells are being produced per week.
DayStar has completed buildout of a new facility where 15 engineers and technicians are working on the initial design of a new Gen III product line. Once financing is in place, the firm estimates the Gen III product will begin shipping in one year.
DayStar has established a number of strategic alliances. Among these is a $1 million funding grant from the U.S. government for a project to research "Lighter Than Air Vehicle" applications.
Last month, the company hired Stephan DeLuca to replace DayStar founder John Tuttle as CEO. Tuttle will reportedly continue as chairman.
Blazing trails into the future is a costly proposition and DayStar needs cash to advance its agenda. Cash burn accelerated during the last quarter as capital expenditures rose to pay for ramping up its manufacturing operation. In addition, a steep decline in DayStar's stock price has forced the firm to escrow $3 million to satisfy lender terms.
Of course, DayStar's deflated stock price is the reason why DSTI turned up in one of my "rock bottom" screens. The stock hit a 52-week low of 4.67 on Wednesday. The stock had traded at a 52-week high of $15.75 in February. The 50-day moving average is 6.07 and the 200-dma is 9.10. DSTI closed yesterday at 4.69.
Last month, DayStar announced plans to put its financial house in order. Cost cutting measures are being implemented and the firm has hired Tejas Securities Group as a financial advisor to explore funding opportunities and other strategic alternatives.
Before the market opened Thursday, I reported that the technical indicators I follow suggest DSTI has hit rock bottom or is close to it. Two of three indicators that were sharply declining had leveled off, and the third was a few days shy of reversing into an uptrend. I also reported that I did not own this stock, but if I saw evidence of a confirmed bottom in the next day or two, I would likely "go fishing" and try to snag some shares at or near $4.58.
When the market opened Thursday, trading in DSTI was choppy and I began to see signs of a double bottom forming. This would set the stage for another down day. I lowered my buy target to $4.26 and decided to go fishing. The stock hit a new 52-week low of $4.25. My order filled at $4.26, a penny above the low. Which means, in the interest of full disclosure, I am now long in DSTI.
With rock bottom stocks, a confirmed bottom will typically be followed by a bounce. This is even more likely with double bottoms, and I expect DSTI will behave accordingly. The classic swing trade is buy on a dip, sell on a spike, and bank the profit. But as I reported earlier, I may hold DSTI a while, as I think it could rebound back above its 200-day moving average by spring or summer, provided, of course, that the company secures additional funding.
I like solar -- or, rather, I like the idea of what it could become over time. Cheap oil is a thing of the past, and that fact makes development of alternative energies not only more commercially viable but a must, unless industrialized nations are planning to revert to horse and buggy travel and candlelight. The fact that pro-green Dems will take control of Congress next month should also bolster the prospects of solar energy and various other alternatives to the world's finite supply of fossil fuel.
Doing just fine.... :D
Is this stock in the same category as ESLR? I see this thing tanking all the time and wondering when a good time would be to start seriously looking at this stock? Where is the bottom on this thing? I can't see much good about it but I remember making great money on this early last year on 2 separate occassions and would love to again soon. Any ideas?
lancefur: Do you have some kind of magic fingers???
DSTI is up 18-20% this morning!
;D >:D ;D

Nice catch Lancefur. I thought less was a falling knife when I saw your post yesterday. However with yesterday's candle it looked like it was ready for a rebound...but up 50% wow.... :o
I had been watching this one since last year waiting and waiting. Call it a gamble but I invested $10k yesterday. Guess who's happy today? Wish I would have had more to invest but most of it is tied in the 3SOF portfolio. I didn't see it falling much farther despite all the dumpers on yahoo.
Nice job...nice profit. I just noticed on the daily chart DSTI put in a double top.
Don't know what you have in mind but you may want to consider selling and buying back lower. My opinion.

I already sold everything with the same idea in mind but not sure what a double top means? I just used my gut on the purchase of this stock since I liked the way the chart was looking and have been familiar with the company for a while. I got out with a 53% profit though. I hope it tanks tomorrow so I can buy in cheaper like I did last night when I did my initial post.
Here is a double top on the daily chart.. ;)
So a double indicates a potential downward trend again with a great opportunity to buy in at a lower price and still make some coin on this? Or if my question is poorly worded, what does a double top tell the investor/trader?
Intra -day double top indicates resistance for the day.
Awesome. I love this sight. I learn a lot everyday that makes me a better trader. At least a more knowledgable one, maybe not better. ;D
This had a nice drop today. Could be a ready for a good long next week with congress having meetings about solar energy. Who knows. Any opinions?
I bought yesterday and lost some but looks like a good bounce back today? Wondering if we have seen the lows and this is reaady for a run. It seems to have tested the 10MA so wondering if this thing will just fly up and away and say, buh bye now. ;D
Now that I typed that, watch it fall. :o
I haven't heard any news, but something is brewing, I think.
I only have DSTIZ, and they are up 39.72% now.
DSTI has so far hit 3.45 but it looks like it is taking a breather right now.
This stock is looking like a day traders dream recently. I wonder if it's going to have any upward consistency soon? Probably not. I am still holding and still making money. I am still not sure what's driving this beyond the State of the Union buzz about alternative fuel energy. I have seen some stuff but not sure if that would have this much of an impact.
Ah - if only I was any good as a daytrader! :-\
I am holding DSTI still - hoping for a continued good surge.
Reason for last weeks move:
Jan 19 (Reuters) - DayStar Technologies Inc. (DSTI.O: Quote, Profile , Research) announced a series of moves to restructure its finances, including the transfer of a $15 million senior convertible note to a new investor and a $5 million equity raising.
The moves triggered a 15.3 percent rise in the solar cells maker's shares to $3.31 on Nasdaq.
DayStar said it entered into an agreement with an investor under which the original investor will transfer the debt, a Class B warrant and the associated rights of each to the new investor.
Prior to the transfer, the company will make a payment to the original investor, in the form of cash and shares, which will constitute as payment in full for all amounts of principal and interest currently due.
Principal and interest payments to the new holder of the debt will resume with the first principal payment due on Feb. 19, the company said in a statement.
The company also said it agreed to sell 2.5 million shares at $2.00 a share to another group of new investors. (Reporting by Jennifer Robin Raj in Bangalore)
OK, intraday charting on DSTI. This 15 minute chart gves us a good idea of the recent action on DSTI (man I wish I'd seen this before!!!) We can see that it moves VERY explosively. If you are aiming to buy a breakout, forget about it unless you are extremely quick. Has to be about anticipating what the next move is going to be, as well as support/resistance levels where it should base and break out.
As we can see, after the initial breakout from $2 on the 11th, it made a double top (actually almost looks like a triple top) as ksflika pointed out and then started pulling back giving up a signifiacnt proportion of its gains. However the pullback formed a falling wedge, which based at $2.50, where it struggled for the rest of the 16th. Come Jan 17th, Bang!! off to the races again. This time topping out at 3.45. From this top it formed a channel pullback, and again you would be looking for basing action to demonstrate the next support level, which it found at 2.75. On Friday it broke out from here again, first hitting 3.45 resistance, pulling back a bit and then going for another thrust up to 3.71. It couldn't hold this level and pulled back, but so far, 3.18 has held.
Looking at this intraday chart, I think that 3.45 is important resistance, as is 3.71, friday's high. It would be nice to see 3.18 hold, but if it decides to make another pullback, it looks to me like it may come back down to 3.00 or even 2.92-2.94, before basing and making another breakout. That is, if it continues this pattern. The 5 minute chart makes me think it might also be putting in the right shoulder of an H&S top.
If you already have some, make sure you lock in profits to protect against a significant downside move. If you are looking for entry, watch for low volume basing suggesting it has found a support level, on either the 5 or 15 minute charts. I would just be careful here, as it has already made a very significant move in the last few trading days and may need some consolidation in this range before heading higher. But you never know in these crazy markets, you just have to do your best to read the situation as it stands.
Nice, ScottishTrader.
Now - here is a story that'll make all solarstock owners go absolutely GA-GA!
Wal-Mart's Solar Energy Vision
The retail giant recently issued an RFP, or request for proposal, to install solar energy systems on its stores in five states -- the largest procurement of solar ever proposed. Bids are due on January 5, hence the end-of-year scrambling.
http://makower.typepad.com/joel_makower/2006/12/walmarts_solar_.html
The result of this is supposed to be announced feb. 28 I think.
Also, tuesday President Bush is going to speak:
In the clearest sign the White House is responding to international and domestic pressure to act on climate change, Tony Snow, White House spokesman, yesterday said that in the president's State of the Union on Tuesday Mr Bush would seek to "balance the needs of security and, at the same time, also the environment. And you can expect him to make that linkage in the speech."
http://www.ft.com/cms/s/c26cae10-a765-11db-83e4-0000779e2340.html
One should really keep an eye on alternative energy stocks in the near future.
Absolutely Cumulina.
Have a look at Sunpower (SPWR) I have a thread on it here at
http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=7420.msg78328#msg78328 (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=7420.msg78328#msg78328)
Is looking pretty good right now. I do like solar companies a lot (my dad started a solar heating company in the 80s), but most of them have been getting creamed over th last 6 months or so. The exception seems to be SPWR (althoguh I haven't had too much of a look into the secotr, though I know you like it too ;))
Back to DSTI, I just noticed it got hammered in the aftermarket on Friday, and is down over 11% at 2.95. Will be interesting to see tomorrows action, whether that 2.92 level will hold or not
(http://hotstockland.eu/dsti220107.jpg)
Looks like a breakout of the bullish wedge
looks like that 2.95 AH close was an anomaly on Friday. DSTI back in range, currently 3.12-3.14 PM

Well, it was clearly a manipulative AH session. Stock takes off on huge relative volume, dragged down on 61K shares. My guess, an attempt to get some cheap shares.
Last trade 3.20
It's down again today and not sure if I should sell it all and hope to buy back in. I jhave held this for a few days now and getting nervous. There doesn't seem to be a consistent pattern although the last couple days, one it's up, the next it's down.... I might want to see if an up day tomorrow happens and sell then but who knows. Still a very volatile stock to own and could get creamed but so far I have rebought this for a 5th time and for a 5th time, still making money. <crosses fingers>
I wouldn't be in any hurry to sell DSTI...especially with the State of the Union speech coming up tomorrow. You may very well see a bounce after the speech, as alternative energy (i.e. wind, solar, biofuels) are likely to be mentioned.
Wooo doggies...DSTI's so hot right now ::) And the RSI's just NOW approaching 50!

DST looking good once again. Some resistance at 3.50 area, but I like it. Jumped in this morning.
Does anyone think that today's spike is taking into account what the content of the State of the Union has in it in regards to alternative energy? Or would one expect that the rise today will continue tomorrow as a result of the speech? I know it's hard to say since I have been in this for the 2nd time this month but this thing still makes me nervous with the heavy ups and downs.

Yes...I do believe some of DSTI's rise today is because of the State of the Union Address tonight. I've played alternative energy's before the state of the union before and they always drop the following day before close.
DSTI may have other things in the pipe...Techninally it will have a tough time with 3.90....and I would not want to see it drop below that ascending line or else it will go back to test $2. Just my opinion.
I thought so. This stock seems to always hit this resistence and cannot fight it's way above. I think I will hold into tomorrow and hope this thing gets slugged out of the park and we see a serious rise in DSTI and ESLR as I currently hold both.

I sold my DSTI today.
Thought about holding overnight to get a possible pre-market gapper after the speech tonight. I would have then sold pre-market tomorrow. Good luck what ever you decide to do.

Bush Seeks Cutback in Gas Consumption
Tuesday January 23, 11:03 pm ET
By Ken Thomas, Associated Press Writer
Bush Asks Congress to Help Nation Reduce Its Gasoline Consumption During the Next 10 Years
WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush on Tuesday asked Congress to help the nation reduce its gasoline consumption during the next ten years, outlining an energy plan that would seek increased fuel economy standards from the auto industry.
"It is in our vital interest to diversify America's energy supply -- and the way forward is through technology," Bush said in his State of the Union address before Congress.
Bush's proposal would raise the fuel efficiency of passenger cars and light trucks by an estimated 4 percent annually, a move which brought questions within the industry and among its supporters in Congress.
Rep. John Dingell, the Michigan Democrat who leads the House Energy and Commerce Committee, said the plan, which would seek a 20 percent reduction in gas consumption by 2017, would require a thorough examination, and following what the "doctors of medicine say: 'First do no harm.'"
"I'm going into this thing with an open mind. I'm going to listen to everything they say, but this thing drips questions," Dingell said.
Ziad Ojakli, Ford Motor Co.'s group vice president for government affairs, said the automaker would support "equitable" reforms to the fuel economy system for passenger cars established by the government.
Josephine Cooper, Toyota Motor North America's group vice president for government and industry affairs, said the automaker "supports the direction of these goals."
General Motors Corp., meanwhile, said in a statement that it would try to ensure that "any fuel economy increases are technically achievable and do not compromise safety, performance, or limit consumer choice."
Environmentalists noted that the proposal could lead to an average fuel economy of 34 miles per gallon in vehicles by 2017, but it would not require the industry to increase the fuel economy of their new cars.
Instead, it would seek increases beginning in model year 2010 for cars and 2012 for light trucks, leaving open the possibility of future increases if Congress provides more flexibility in the regulation.
"This will only be a breakthrough if the president and Congress work together to pass a law guaranteeing that this goal becomes reality, while avoiding loopholes and escape clauses," said David Friedman, research director for the Union of Concerned Scientists.
Bush was "focusing on the wrong solutions when the right ones are easily available," such as fuel economy standards of 40 miles per gallon, said Dan Becker, director of the Sierra Club's global warming program.
Bush's plan would sharply increase the amount of ethanol and other alternative fuels that the federal government mandates must be produced, accounting for three-quarters of the displaced gasoline by 2017.
The proposal would set the amount of ethanol and other alternative fuels to be blended into the fuel supply at 35 billion gallons by 2017, up from 7.5 billion gallons in 2012. The standard would be expanded beyond ethanol to include oil alternatives such as biodiesel, methanol, butanol and hydrogen, officials said.
In June, the heads of GM, Ford and DaimlerChrysler AG said by 2010 they would double their production of "flexible fuel" vehicles capable of running on ethanol blends of 15 percent gasoline and 85 percent ethanol.
The Detroit automakers have produced more than 5 million of the flex-fuel vehicles and said they could build about 2 million annually by 2010.
Industry officials have said they remain hamstrung by a lack of fueling stations that offer ethanol blends. Less than 1 percent of the nation's 170,000 gasoline stations offer E85; most are located in the Midwest.
The remainder of the reductions in gas consumption would come from raising fuel economy standards for passenger cars and seeking further increases for pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles and vans.
Revisions to the program for new car fleets would be difficult because Congress has denied the administration the authority in the past and many lawmakers representing auto workers remain worried it could lead to job losses among struggling domestic automakers and suppliers.
"The whole thing comes down to jobs. You can't just impose this kind of regulatory concept on a company that is coming out of a difficult period," said Rep. Joe Knollenberg, R-Mich.
DaimlerChrysler AG's Chairman Dieter Zetsche, in a speech at the Washington Auto Show before Bush's address, said the current system -- called the Corporate Average Fuel Economy -- ran counter to the principles of a free market system and presented major challenges for the industry.
"American policy-makers must adopt a new and unique formula that fits here, a formula that encourages more technologies and more choices -- and with incentives that build momentum in the market," Zetsche said. "Higher CAFE alone simply won't get it done."
Mike Stanton, president and chief executive of the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers, said the proposal was "very, very aggressive" and the industry's ability to meet new fuel economy demands would depend upon the amount of lead time given to automakers and how quickly they could implement fuel-saving technologies.
The Transportation Department already has revamped the rules for pickups, SUVs and minivans, creating a sliding mileage scale that is based on a vehicle's size. The overall standard was increased slightly; smaller vehicles now must meet higher mileage requirements than larger ones. The biggest SUVs were exempted until 2011.
Bush wants the same ability to reform mileage rules for passenger cars, which today must meet a fleet average of 27.5 miles per gallon, a standard unchanged in two decades.
Automakers have been largely supportive of the changes to the light truck program, which is based on the vehicle's size, because the system has been based on scientific study and flexibility. Some consumer groups and environmentalist have said the system could provide incentives for automakers to build larger vehicles subject to lower standards.
The proposal includes a system of trading or "banking" credits to meet new standards, which could lead to Detroit's automakers buying fuel credits from Japanese automakers such as Honda Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp., which have higher fleetwide fuel economy levels.
If I was paying attention yesterday I should have sold at 3.50 but now have inserted a stop at 3.20 to take a 25% profit this go around. Not as good as the 53% last time but this seems to be the only one I have gotten right the last couple weeks. :( I need another one of these that is ripe to rise.

BUYINS.NET: DSTI Has Been On BUYINS.NET Naked Short List For 13 Consecutive Trading Days2/12/2007
BUYINS.NET, www.buyins.net, announced today that these select companies have been on the NASDAQ, AMEX and NYSE naked short threshold list for 13 consecutive trading days: DayStar Technologies Inc (NASDAQ: DSTI). For a complete list of companies on the naked short list please visit our web site. To find the SqueezeTrigger Price before a short squeeze starts in any stock, go to www.buyins.net.
Regulation SHO took effect January 3, 2005, and provides a new regulatory framework governing short selling of securities. It was designed with the objective of simplifying and modernizing short sale regulation and providing controls where they are most needed. At the conclusion of each settlement day, data is provided on securities in which: 1) there are at least 10,000 shares in aggregate failed deliveries for the security for five consecutive settlement days, and 2) these failures constitute at least 0.5% of the issuer\'s total shares outstanding. Regulation SHO mandates that, if a clearing agent has had a fail-to-deliver position for 13 consecutive settlement days, that clearing agent, and the broker/dealer it clears for, must purchase securities to close out its fail to deliver position.
DayStar Technologies Inc (NASDAQ: DSTI) engages in the development, manufacture, and marketing of Photovoltaic Foil products that convert sunlight directly into electricity. The company specifically developed a thin-film solar cell based upon the copper-indium-gallium-selenide semiconductor material system, commonly known as CIGS. It manufactures CIGS solar cells, which are deposited on flexible metal foils using production processes adapted from computer component manufacturing. As an alternative to wafer-silicon solar cells, CIGS solar cell has mechanical flexibility and durability. DayStar Technologies was co-founded by Eric Cole and John R. Tuttle in 1997. The company is headquartered in Halfmoon, New York. With 7.39 million shares outstanding and 1 million shares declared short as of January 2007, the failure to deliver in shares of DSTI has not been resolved and a buy-in is imminent.
About BUYINS.NET
WWW.BUYINS.NET is a service designed to help bonafide shareholders of publicly traded US companies fight naked short selling. Naked short selling is the illegal act of short selling a stock when no affirmative determination has been made to locate shares of the stock to hypothecate in connection with the short sale. Buyins.net has built a proprietary database that uses Threshold list feeds from NASDAQ, AMEX and NYSE to generate detailed and useful information to combat the naked short selling problem. For the first time, actual trade by trade data is available to the public that shows the attempted size, actual size, price and average value of short sales in stocks that have been shorted and naked shorted. This information is valuable in determining the precise point at which short sellers go out-of-the-money and start losing on their short and naked short trades.
BUYINS.NET has built a massive database that collects, analyzes and publishes a proprietary SqueezeTrigger for each stock that has been shorted, www.buyins.net/squeezetrigger.pdf. The SqueezeTrigger database of nearly 1,200,000,000 short sale transactions goes back to January 1, 2005, and calculates the exact price at which the Total Short Interest is short in each stock. This data was never before available prior to January 1, 2005, because the Self Regulatory Organizations (primary exchanges) guarded it aggressively. After the SEC passed Regulation SHO, exchanges were forced to allow data processors like Buyins.net to access the data.
The SqueezeTrigger database collects individual short trade data on over 7,000 NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ stocks and general short trade data on nearly 8,000 OTCBB and PINKSHEET stocks. Each month the database grows by approximately 50,000,000 short sale transactions and provides investors with the knowledge necessary to time when to buy and sell stocks with outstanding short positions. By tracking the size and price of each month\'s short transactions, BUYINS.NET provides institutions, traders, analysts, journalists and individual investors the exact price point where short sellers start losing money.

In this ascending triangle scenario, would the upwwards breakout occur tomorrow or within the next couple days? I see that is is assumed to occur tomorrow but would like to gain more insight before I commit again. I haven't lost on any trade I have made with this stock and I feel it coming again where I should buy into again.
Look forward to opinions.

All solar stock (the ones that I know of) are doing great today.
I wonder if it has been FSLR's impressive rise that has given a lift to the rest?
Or are there some solar-news that I missed?
I hold both DSTI and DSTIZ.

This and ASTI have moved nicely the last week or so. I wonder if this is now the time to really be heavily invested in this stock? Nice short term run and have traded it once and made a quick 8% but with it so irregular, makes me nervious. Now looking at what ASTI did today....wow. One would think this is where the longs should be for the time being.
nice breakout on DSTI!!! but it hit resisance at 5.30 today. Not sure but I think it could pull back form here. Missed this run, but good call waxweazle
thanx scot..
now we hit the Downtrend and couldn´t break it so we go down @ under 4.5$ adding worstcase 4$ than next try to break the downtrend
Adding TIME chart looks nice
break the uptrend on end of day than sell
(http://hotstockland.eu/boardcharts/DSTI090307.jpg)
hmm... a gap higher on Monday would give a real nice morning star candle pattern. Interesting...
Personally I'm amazed at how quickly DSTI made its pullback after hitting 5.30 resistance. I made a speculative purchase last week at 4.30, but closed my position after the bounce up to the 4.40s when it started coming down again. If it opens up tomoroow it might be worth getting in for a bit again.
3.94 looks to be the pivot from the 30 minute chart, which would give DSTI a break out of that recent downward channel and above resistance coming off the lower rail of the falling wedge. First targe for me on a breakout would be to horizontal resistance at 4.45. If it does this, I would like to see 3.80 hold, which would give a risk of just over 4% on the trade, vs a 12.5% reward if the 4.45 resistance target gets made. Not bad.
Saying all that, I think the daily chart tells a slightly different story. Waxweazle, you have used a log chart in your analysis, which is totally reasonable, but I prefer to use a regular chart, especially for short term purposes. Both are ok, they just tell slightly different stories in terms of where important support/resistance may be.
The Jan-Feb ascending triangle breakout put a $5 target IN PLAY which got made at the beginning of March - this also formed a move above the channel which I have drawn slightly differenly from yours, because of the scale. Since then DSTI has been pulling back in a falling wedge, testing 3.60 support on Friday. If DSTI is really bullish, we could see a gap up reversal on Monday, and I still think the 3.94-96 level will be the pivot for this move. The falling wedge breakout (on a break of 3.96) would put a target of:
5.29 - 3.61 = 1.68 + 3.96 = 5.64 IN PLAY (as Melf likes to say)
Obviously there are hurdles before it gets there (most notably horizontal resistance at 4.45-50 and at 5.30 and the top of the channel, which I see coming in at 4.75 currently). However there is also a chance that DSTI still wants to fake a few more people out here and test breakout and channel support at 3.50. So that's where I stand. I'll be keeping an eye on DSTI and will look to buy either on a break of 3.96 or if I get an opportunity between 3.50 and 3.65 in the next day or two.
yep nice Scot looks ready
:o
I was unfortunate to buy near the resistance at 5.21 almost 2 weeks ago. :'(
I didn't get out like I said I would but now as I am 26% down in 2 weeks. I am now at a point where I agree with this post. This is the first time I have been losing money on this stock and I am highly convinced that I can make this back in a short amount of time. I will follow scot's technicals on this and get out if he feels it is going now where. I called the 50% gap up earlier this year and see that a small up tick should happen this week.
8)
hey wax,
I think both of us are probably pretty happy on our read of DSTI. I averaged in at 3.87 yesterday (an early low buy and a buy on the break of 3.96). Currently looking good today with a breakout from 4.20, and test of 4.30. I think we will see DSTI push back over 4.50 agaiin in the next day or two... maybe even today! I'm going with the semi-log as well for now on the channel. I think I like it better too. Good call ;D
When you look @ my chart you can see the stock hit the upertrendline @ Thrusday and now i think we will go down a little to get a breath.. and than up again :)
Moving today !! A real MOVER !!! :o :o
