GS CleanTech Acquires Exclusive Rights to Proprietary Gasification Technology for Ethanol Production Industry
Thursday July 27, 8:00 am ET
GS CleanTech's Ethanol Technologies Dramatically Increase Fuel Yield Of Corn
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 27, 2006--GS CleanTech Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: GSCT - News) today announced its execution of an agreement with ZeroPoint Clean Technology, Inc. for the exclusive rights to distribute and use ZeroPoint's proprietary gasification, gas to liquids and fuel reforming technology in the Ethanol Production Industry.
ZeroPoint's Biomass Gasifier is designed to standardize variable biomass feeds and optimize high yields of high-quality syngas in real-time with greatly increased capital and operating cost efficiencies at smaller scales as compared to traditional gasification technologies. The syngas output of ZeroPoint's gasifier can either be used to generate electricity in a standard gas-fired generator or catalyzed into liquid fuels such as ethanol or diesel substitutes with the Fischer-Tropsch process.
David Winsness, GS CleanTech's president and chief operating officer, said that "We believe that the ZeroPoint technology is the most effective commercially viable technology available for gasifying biomass. The technology is modular and capable of small and large scale applications. It is flexible and can readily accommodate increasing and variable capacities with variable feeds, and it can be manufactured with rapid delivery cycles. For GS CleanTech, the ZeroPoint technology adds significant additional capability to our clean fuel technology program."
Biomass Gasification and Synthesis Gas
When biomass is heated with little oxygen needed for efficient combustion, the biomass breaks apart into its molecular constituents, or it gasifies, into a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen gas called synthesis gas, or syngas.
This is similar to the process that occurs with wood in a fireplace. As the wood becomes very hot, it gives off its volatile gases - syngas - and it falls apart into a relatively low volume of ash. Because there is an open flame and ample free oxygen, the syngas emitted by wood in a fireplace combusts immediately and produces fire.
Gasification converts carbonaceous materials into syngas, and a biomass gasifier is a system that can gasify biomass such as wood waste, municipal waste, or agriproducts into syngas.
Importantly, syngas produced in a biomass gasification process can be converted into liquid fuels and other products through a catalytic chemical reaction called the Fischer-Tropsch process.
To date, the most significant resistance to wide-scale use of biomass gasification has been the requirement to customize gasifiers for the specifics of each individual application. This is because different forms of biomass have different sizes shapes, densities, moisture contents, cellulosic structures and gasification and devolitization characteristics. Customization requirements and the practicality of gasifying variable feeds have typically constrained gasifiers to larger scale, capital intensive designs.
3.9 Gallons of Clean Fuel Per Bushel of Corn
GS CleanTech is currently focused on delivering its technologies and process innovations to the Ethanol Production Industry with a view towards maximizing the yield of corn-based ethanol production.
Traditional ethanol processing converts each bushel of corn, which weighs about 54 pounds, into about 18 pounds of ethanol, 18 pounds of carbon dioxide, and 18 pounds of distillers dried grains (DDG), which contain about 2 pounds of fat. This corresponds to a corn to clean fuel conversion efficiency of about 33%, or about 2.8 gallons of clean fuel per bushel of corn. GS CleanTech's ambition is to increase this efficiency as much as possible.
GS CleanTech's patent-pending corn oil extraction and biodiesel processing technologies convert the fat in the DDG into a high grade corn oil that can then be converted into biodiesel on close to a 1:1 volumetric basis. This increases the corn to clean fuel conversion efficiency described above to 36%, or about 3.0 gallons of clean fuel per bushel of corn.
The ZeroPoint technology has the potential to add to the corn to clean fuel conversion efficiency by gasifying the remaining 16 pounds of defatted DDG in the above example and using the resultant syngas to generate electricity and to produce additional ethanol with the Fischer-Tropsch process.
Winsness added: "We believe that deploying the ZeroPoint technology in concert with our turn-key corn oil extraction and biodiesel processing technologies will potentially enable us to increase the corn to clean fuel conversion efficiency from 33% to more than 48%, or from 2.8 to more than an incredible 3.9 gallons of clean fuel per bushel of corn. We are very excited by the potential of this technology in our program and its ability to create additional opportunities for ethanol producers and their regional communities to maximize the clean fuel yield out of existing crops."

GS CleanTech Executes Agreement with Ethanol Producer to Extract Corn Oil for Conversion into Biodiesel
Monday July 31, 3:35 pm ET
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 2006--GS CleanTech Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: GSCT - News) today announced its execution of a definitive agreement with an ethanol producer to extract about 1.2 million gallons per year of crude corn oil from the producer's distillers dried grains for conversion into a biodiesel feedstock using GS CleanTech's proprietary corn oil extraction technology.
GS CleanTech's pricing model for its corn oil extraction technology is based on GS CleanTech's provision of turn-key extraction systems for no up-front cost in return for long-term agreements to purchase the extracted corn oil based on a fixed discount to prevailing fuel prices.
Under the terms of the agreement, GS CleanTech expects to generate an estimated $1.4 million to $1.8 million in annualized revenues by purchasing and selling the ethanol facility's extracted corn oil as a biodiesel feedstock.
"Our patent-pending Corn Oil Extraction Systems(TM) have been specifically engineered to help ethanol producers enhance production and increase revenues out of their existing crop in cost-effective and rapid ways," said David Winsness, GS CleanTech's president and chief operating officer.
GS CleanTech's Focus on Ethanol Production
Winsness added: "The increased yield per bushel may not seem like much, but it adds up. Our corn oil extraction program allows a typical 50 million gallon per year ethanol production facility to increase their revenues by about 3.5%. That works out to as much as $4.7 million in additional annualized sales. We are very excited by the new agreement with the ethanol facility and, with many more systems in our hard sales pipeline, we look forward to increased opportunities to help ethanol producers and their communities maximize their fuel yield out of their existing crops."
One Kernel to Two Fuels with GS CleanTech's Corn Oil Extraction Systems(TM)
Currently, the majority of ethanol production is based on a dry milling technique that utilizes more than 1 billion bushels of corn to produce 3 billion gallons per year of ethanol (Fuel #1). The dry mill process converts the starch from the kernel of corn into sugar and then the sugar into ethanol. The balance of the corn (non-starch components) then goes through a dewatering and dehydration process where the byproduct is sold as a commercial feed ingredient called distillers dried grain. DDG contains the majority of the corn oil that was present in the kernel. Today, the 1 billion bushels of corn currently used in the dry mill ethanol process contain roughly 300 million gallons of corn oil that is currently sold for about $0.035 per pound as commercial feed. GS CleanTech's corn oil extraction technology presents another option - cost effective conversion into biodiesel (Fuel #2).
GS CleanTech's Corn Oil Extraction System(TM) offers the following compelling benefits for ethanol producers:
Increased Revenue - The corn oil extracted is readily amenable to refining into biodiesel fuel which creates a new revenue stream for participating ethanol facilities;
Reduced Operating Costs and Emissions - Corn oil removal can improve drying efficiency by more than 10% with reduced natural gas or coal needs and reduced emissions (NOx, SOx, VOC, and CO2);
Low Operating Costs - The system requires less than $0.05 per gallon of corn oil produced;
High Recovery Rates - The technology is capable of recovering up to 75% of the corn oil within the DDG; and,
Increased Inclusion Rates - Corn oil removal can improve defatted DDG marketability and inclusion rates by reducing fat content.
Pictures and video of the GS CleanTech's corn oil extraction technology are available online at http://www.veridium.com/cornoil.php - this system is in use today and efficiently recovers corn oil from concentrated thin stillage.

Beautiful chart over the past week... Fighting the trend compared to other ethanol stocks (peix), thanks to their shareholder update. Imo this is an easy double... up 25% in past 2 days... I'm batting 1.000 with my VRDM/Gsct trades (3 for 3) and I'm in for 200k from 4.0 cents. Also feel that oil is short-term o/s and will bounce back to 70$... and gsct will also bounce.

Hey Setravis,
thanks for the compliment... for a while there I was thinking that I was talking to myself... anyway, everytime I get the urge to sell, I think about the initial run some months back... I bought at 7.0 cents and sold at 12cents like 2 days later... ARRRGGHH!!! only to have it run to 32 cents... I always sell too early.
yes, this may not have a straight line to 30 cents, but imo this is going to go much, much higher. I mean, this thing ran pretty much from 4 cents to 32 cents, back to 4 cents, essentially a 100% retrace. Then on the way up, this really has only bounced 3.5 cents or so... which is only 10% of the way back up...
If this bounces like 30% of the way back up (reasonable, imo) this will go up to 13 cents...
The other thing is that the volume on this stock is reasonable... even when the volume was low, I could still get in with a 10K$ position fairly easily... (average volume was in the 40-50K$/day... now in the 400K$-500K$ range...)
Imo makes this the perfect swing-trading vehicle to take advantage of the ethanol comeback.
g
p.s. you might get a slight pullback... but I doubt it ;D
we shall see...
Tomorrow should be great for all ethanol stocks...

Bush readies speech on ethanol, climate change
January 17, 2007
Source: Reuters
U.S. President George W. Bush's annual speech to Congress next week is likely to call for a massive increase in U.S. ethanol usage and tweak climate change policy while stopping short of mandatory emissions caps, sources familiar with White House plans said on Tuesday.
Bush's annual State of the Union address is expected to touch on key energy policy points, after Bush made the surprise pronouncement during last year's address that the United States is addicted to Middle East crude oil supplies.
A rising focus on "energy security" by both the Bush administration and Congress has added momentum to efforts to employ home-grown fuel sources like ethanol to reduce U.S. dependency on oil imports.
Following that theme, Bush is likely to call for more U.S. usage of home-grown supplies of ethanol, the sources told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
Iowa, which grows more corn than any other U.S. state, is also a key stop for candidates in the upcoming 2008 presidential elections. Ethanol is made from agricultural products like corn.
One source briefed by White House officials said Bush's speech on Jan. 23 could call for over 60 billion gallons (227 billion litres) a year of ethanol to be mixed into U.S. gasoline supplies by 2030.
That would be a massive increase from the 7.5 billion gallons (28.4 billion litres) of ethanol use by 2012 required by current U.S. law.
"I think it's going to be a big number," the source said on condition of anonymity. "It's in the ballpark of even above 60 billion (gallons) by 2030."
A White House spokesman declined to comment on the details of the speech.
POLICY ON GLOBAL WARMING
The White House on Tuesday confirmed that Bush's speech will outline a policy on global warming, but said Bush has not dropped his opposition to mandatory limits on heat-trapping greenhouse-gas emissions.
Some industry officials and media reports speculated that Bush would agree to mandatory emissions caps in an effort to combat global warming, reversing years of opposition to mandatory caps. But the White House denied this.
"If you're talking about enforceable carbon caps, in terms of industry-wide and nationwide, we knocked that down. That's not something we're talking about," White House spokesman Tony Snow said at Tuesday's media briefing.
Delaware Democrat Joseph Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, the panel's senior Republican, introduced a nonbinding resolution calling for the United States to return to international negotiations on climate change.
"It is critical that the international dialogue on climate change and American participation in those discussions move beyond the disputes over the Kyoto Protocols," Lugar said in a statement.
Britain's "The Observer" newspaper reported on Sunday that unnamed senior Downing Street officials said Bush was preparing to issue a changed climate policy during the State of the Union.
U.S. allies like Britain and Germany have pressed for a new global agreement on climate change to replace the Kyoto Protocol that expires in 2012. Bush withdrew the United States from the protocol in 2001, saying its targets for reducing carbon emissions would unfairly hurt the U.S. economy.
The speech is a moving target and White House officials are known to make last-minute tweaks.
Last year, White House political advisors added the "addicted to oil" remarks hours before Bush spoke.
Investors hope Bush will embrace biofuels in his speech.
"I would like him to set a very aggressive target for renewable fuels," top Silicon Valley venture capitalist Vinod Khosla told the Reuters Global Biofuel Summit on Tuesday

State of the union tonight, dont miss the ethanol train
Bush to call for curb in gasoline consumption
In speech, president hopes to balance Iraq policy with other initiatives
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16767118/
WASHINGTON - In his first State of the Union address to a Democratic-controlled Congress, President Bush is calling for Americans to slash gasoline consumption by up to 20 percent by 2017.
Bush envisions the goal being achieved primarily through a sharp escalation in the amount of ethanol and other alternative fuels that the federal government mandates must be produced. The rest would come from raising fuel economy standards for passenger cars, Joel Kaplan, White House deputy chief of staff, said in advance of Bush's Tuesday night speech to a joint session of Congress.
The president is proposing to set the amount of ethanol and other alternative fuels to be blended into the fuel supply at 35 billion gallons by 2017, up from 7.5 billion gallons in 2012. He also wants to expand the standard to include not just ethanol but a wide range of oil alternatives, such as biodiesel, methanol, butanol and hydrogen, Kaplan said.
Though some argue that such a drastic increase is unrealistic, Kaplan said the White House is banking on the new mandate -- which would need approval from Congress -- spurring investments in the industry and giving technological research a boost.
Rewriting mileage rules
The other piece of Bush's energy proposal is something he has unsuccessfully asked Congress for in the past -- the ability to rewrite mileage rules for new car fleets. The White House calls it a safe way to improve car mileage, but some critics suggest that it could instead spur automakers to produce more gas guzzlers.
The Transportation Department already has revamped its the rules for pickups, sport utility vehicles and minivans, setting a sliding mileage scale that is based on a vehicle's size. The overall standard was increased slightly; smaller vehicles now must meet higher mileage requirements than do larger ones. The biggest SUVs were exempted until 2011.
Bush wants the same ability to reform mileage rules for passenger cars, which today must meet a fleet average of 27.5 miles per gallon, a standard unchanged in two decades. He would include a system of trading or "banking" credits to meet new standards, Kaplan said
Ethanol stocks rally ahead of Bush speech
President to endorse a rise in ethanol use

Last Update: 4:14 PM ET Jan 23, 2007
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Shares of ethanol producers rallied Tuesday ahead of President Bush's State of the Union speech, in which he's expected to call for a big increase in the amount of ethanol that refiners mix with gasoline.
The president will propose a massive switch to renewable fuels such as ethanol and biodiesel in his address this evening, the White House said on Tuesday.
Bush's plan would cut gasoline consumption by 20% in 10 years, in part by bolstering production of renewable fuels. He will also ask Congress for the authority to set the corporate fuel-economy standard for cars and trucks, aides said.
The ethanol industry received a boost after Bush advocated alternative fuels in his 2006 State of the Union address.
Ethanol, an alcohol-based alternative fuel produced from starch or sugar-based feedstocks, has gained popularity in response to rising oil prices and concerns that the United States is overly dependent on imported oil.
"Bush's speech is significant to the extent that it continues to shed light on the ethanol industry and the alternative-fuel industry in general," said Emanuel Balarie, senior market strategist at Wisdom Financial Inc. "However, I am skeptical on whether or not we will see an immediate fundamental impact on the ethanol industry."
Ethanol stocks 'are momentum plays with generally mediocre financials and high valuations.'
— Dan Pickering, Pickering Energy Partners
Balarie said that the impact also would depend on whether the initiatives Bush proposes become reality.
Ahead of the presidential remarks, the stocks of ethanol producers surged. Shares of Xethanol Corp (XNL : xethanol corp com

Despite the day's rally in the sector, some analysts urged caution.
While alternative-energy stocks eventually have to become a bigger part of the world energy mix, these stocks "are momentum plays with generally mediocre financials and high valuations," wrote Dan Pickering, an analyst with Pickering Energy Partners in Houston, in a note Tuesday.
Alternative-energy stocks have declined between 30% and 60% since they last gained momentum last spring, he said.
Wisdom Financial's Balarie said that the demand for ethanol will undoubtedly increase in future years, but the rise will not necessarily take place overnight, since the industry faces challenges in infrastructure and logistics, among others.
"I do believe most of the speculative money that flew into the ethanol markets in the early part of the year will likely reenter, since prices have come off considerably from their highs," he added. "As such, I do expect this rally to continue but not to the degree we experienced in early 2006."
Ethanol is produced by converting crops into simple sugars. The crops include corn, sugar cane, barley, wheat, and biomass. Ethanol is then blended with gasoline to improve its emissions quality.
One blend, called E85, contains 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. Several auto manufacturers make flexible-fuel vehicles, which run on E85.

Bush to visit 3 places Wednesday that have 'something' to do with ethanol production..he will start his visits at Dupont in Wilmington DE & will visit 3 more places after Du Pont. guess who is a stones throw from these?yep GS cleantech..wouldn't that be a kick in the pants if he looked at GS cleantechs machine that turns animal fat into biodiesel!
Flanders,
Applaud for catching this before the big move today. I am in at .06 but a bit nervous since I missed most of the move today. May unload it quickly tomorrow depending on how ethanol stocks are acting as a group.
GSCT gapped up...on huge volume. Looks real good going into the close and will probably close at the high of the day. :o Broke the downtrend too..
GSCT is under the same umbrella as GSCR...which rose over 3000% the past two days. Also watch GSEG and GSHF.
