INTC is called higher on MER's recommendation to buy it ahead of earnings, but this isn't a stock that I want to buy.
It essentially has had a Parabolic Rally from the late April low to the July high, which was an Abandoned Baby Island Reversal, followed by a Parabolic Return to the area where the rally began.
During the Parabolic Rally, the only area of base building was during June. Not much. You can see from the chart that once the Abandoned Baby Island Reversal was put in, INTC pretty much came straight down, with just a few rallies of short duration. One rally was trying to hang on to June horizontal support; another was a rally back to the broken 200DMA.
The reason that I mention this is that the NASDAQ Composite currently is where INTC was in late August, when it broke June support, tried to hang onto that level, then tanked.
I'll post the NASDAQ chart next.
The NASDAQ Composite closed below its June low yesterday.
In addition to that, it has broken below its downward sloping channel, which is now resistance, and it has closed below its 200DMA for two consecutive days.
If the NASDAQ trades higher here, scrambles to get back above resistance, then fails and breaks below yesterday's low, this sure is going to look like a H&S top, especially if we can't get above 2106, the high of the left shoulder.
Note that the rally off the late April low up to this level was parabolic, like INTC, and we saw in the chart above what INTC did after it broke down below its comparable June low.
Just a "heads up."

On October 13, MER recommended that we buy INTC ahead of earnings, a stock that has shown leadership on the downside, in a weak market that had just broken a channel to the downside, and that had just broken 2039 support.
??? ??? ???
INTC got the usual pop out of the recommendation, as did the rest of the market, but here's where the INTC rally left the NASDAQ at yesterday's close, ahead of INTC's earnings: stopped at DOUBLE resistance at 2074 on both Monday and Tuesday, with a Bearish Hangman on Monday, and Black Candlestick yesterday.
QuoteThe reason that I mention this is that the NASDAQ Composite currently is where INTC was in late August, when it broke June support, tried to hang onto that level, then tanked.
The NASDAQ is weak, technically, and is indicated lower at the open on INTC's earnings. It looks vulnerable for a number of reasons, some of which are:
1. It was bearish to break below the August-October channel of lower highs and lower lows.
2. It was bearish to break June 2039 support.
3. It was bearish to fail on Monday and Tuesday at DOUBLE resistance at 2074.
4. INTC has been showing leadership to the downside and is indicated to lead the market down at the open.

Still looks vulnerable.

Calven,
Boy, I can't either. I've been watching INTC closely in an effort to determine if the breakdown from a H&S Top in the SMH was for real, or a "Bear Trap."
With that move in INTC, from making a new low for the move two days ago, to gapping above that twice validated down trendline yesterday, the breakdown in the SMH sure is looking like a Bear Trap.
INTC could shoot higher from here, after having been in such a steady decline, but often when stocks break out above a steep sloping down trendline like INTC did yesterday, they pull back toward the breakout.
Yesterday, INTC got to within a penny of the October 18 high (green dotted horizontal line). I'd like to see it pull back from that and form a little Inverse H&S, or "walk down the down trendline" and form a double bottom, then break out above 23.98-23.99 (green dotted horizontal line).
Thanks for the post, Calven, and for your nice chart. Applause.
I would agree with your analysis (applause). You are right...after such a long decline INTC is likely to close that small gap above the trendline. Wouldnt be a buyer quite yet but as you say once it "walks down the trendline" and attempts to fill this position becomes real attractive.
This position looks outstanding to the longer term investor. 23.00- 23.5 is a great entry from my perspective...
I would expect a short term target of 26 to be easily reachable...
Gotta love good old INTC
Target sell posted....

Intel Announces 25 Percent Cash Dividend Increase and
Authorizes $25 Billion in Share Repurchases
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 2005 Intel Corporation today announced that its board of directors :o has approved a 25 percent increase in the quarterly cash dividend to 10 cents per share beginning with the dividend that will be declared in the first quarter of 2006. :o The Intel board also authorized the :o repurchase of up to $25 billion in shares of common stock under the company's ongoing stock repurchase program.
" Intel's investments in R&D and capital are enabling the company to post its third consecutive year of double-digit revenue growth," said Paul Otellini, Intel president and CEO. " At the same time, we are returning record amounts of cash to our stockholders with one of the highest dividend yields in the technology industry and one of the largest share buyback programs of any company. Today's announcement signals our confidence in the growth, earnings and cash generating potential of our business."
Intel began paying a cash dividend in 1992 and has paid out approximately $5.8 billion to its stockholders over the past 52 quarters. Intel cash dividends for 2005 will total approximately $2 billion.
Since the company's stock buyback program began in 1990, Intel has repurchased approximately 2.5 billion shares for about $49 billion. For the first three quarters of this year, Intel repurchased over 300 million shares at a cost of approximately $7.5 billion, which compares to $7.5 billion in repurchases for all of 2004, the previous record for a full year. The average number of Intel common shares outstanding declined by over 10 percent from their peak during 1998 to approximately 6.1 billion as of the end of the third quarter of this year.
As of the end of the third quarter, approximately 313 million shares of stock remained available for repurchase under previous authorizations expressed in share amounts, representing approximately $7.8 billion of stock at the current stock price level. The board's authorization to repurchase up to $25 billion in shares includes this $7.8 billion of shares available for repurchase under previous authorizations.
Risk Factors Regarding Forward-Looking Statements
The statements in this document that refer to plans and expectations for the fourth quarter, the current year, 2006 and the future are forward-looking statements that involve a number of risks and uncertainties. Dividend declarations, the dividend rate and the scope of the stock buyback program are at the discretion of Intel's Board of Directors, and plans for future dividends and buybacks may be revised by the Board. Many factors could affect Intel's financial results which could potentially impact Intel's dividend and stock buyback programs, and variances from Intel's current expectations regarding such factors could cause actual results to differ materially from those expressed in these forward-looking statements. Intel presently considers the factors set forth below to be the important factors that could cause actual results to differ materially from Intel's published expectations. A more detailed discussion of factors that could affect Intel's results is contained in Intel's SEC filings, including the report on Form 10-Q for the quarter ended Oct. 1, 2005.
-- Intel operates in intensely competitive industries. Intel's
results could be affected by the demand for and market
acceptance of Intel's products, manufacturing yields and the
availability of sufficient inventory to meet demand, pricing
pressures and actions taken by our competitors, the timing of
new product introductions and the timing and execution of the
manufacturing ramp. Factors that could cause demand to be
different from Intel's expectations include changes in
customer order patterns, including order cancellations,
changes in the level of inventory at customers, and changes in
business and economic conditions.
-- Intel's results could be impacted by unexpected economic,
social and political conditions in the countries in which
Intel, its customers or its suppliers operate, including
security risks, possible infrastructure disruptions and
fluctuations in foreign currency exchange rates.
-- Intel's dividend and stock buyback programs could be affected
by changes in its capital spending programs, changes in its
cash flows and changes in tax laws, as well as by the level
and timing of acquisition and investment activity.
-- Intel's results could also be affected by adverse effects
associated with product defects and errata (deviations from
published specifications), and by litigation or regulatory
matters involving intellectual property, stockholder,
consumer, antitrust and other issues, such as the litigation
and regulatory matters described in Intel's SEC reports.

NEWS OUT
Intel Moves Up Release of Multi-Core Server Processors :o
11/11/2005 Electronic News
Originally planned for release early next year, Intel Corp. bumped up the release of its first dual-core, hyper-threaded processors for servers with four or more processors, the company reported today.
The processors, which began shipping today, deliver what the company says are record levels of performance and are aimed at multi-threaded applications such as software for databases, supply chain management and financial services.
The Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor 7000 is shipping today with speeds up to 3GHz and a 667MHz dual independent system bus. The new processors fit into Intel's existing platforms using the E8500 dual-core chipset that shipped earlier this year.
Early next year, Intel said it would ship new versions of the chipset and processor to support an 800MHz dual independent system bus.
The platform shipping today includes DDR2 memory, PCI Express, advanced reliability features, and hardware-enabled support for Intel Virtualization Technology, designed to provide hardware support within the processor for virtualized server applications to make them more reliable, robust and efficient. Intel said it is also working with the industry to turn on this capability via a BIOS switch early next year.
Intel-based servers with dual-core technology will further increase the IT efficiency and system utilization for VMWare customers, said Brian Byun, VP of technical alliances for VMware, in a statement.
Virtualization is the killer application to harness the increased power of multi-core processors across a broad range of enterprise workloads, he explained.
VMware said it would deliver enhanced product capabilities through the hardware virtualization support enabled in IntelÂ's latest dual-core Intel Xeon processors.
Servers based on the Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor 7000 sequence are expected to be available from system manufacturers worldwide beginning today.
Looking ahead, Intel plans to deliver Tulsa, a 65nm dual-core Intel Xeon processor MP with a larger 16MByte shared L3 cache for servers with four or more processors, in the second half of next year that will fit into the same systems as the dual-core Intel Xeon processor 7000 sequence announced today. Tulsa is set to begin shipping to customers for evaluation by the end of the year, Intel said.
Last month, Intel added a new processor family for 2007 to the Xeon roadmap, codenamed Caneland, planned to include a quad-core processor, codenamed Tigerton, based on Intel's next generation micro-architecture. The Caneland platform is designed to deliver higher performance through a high-speed interconnect, an interface connecting each processor directly to the chipset, Intel said.
In addition, the Caneland platform is expected to implement an upcoming memory technology, called fully-buffered dual in-line memory module and will include four memory interconnects that take advantage of the increased capabilities of the technology, Intel concluded.
Intel looks pretty good. Good break from a descending pattern with crosses over the 50 dma and 200 dma on good volume. As long as it doesn't drop below the 200 dma at 24.80 today, it still has the potential to run up to around 27.50-27.60. Good gap above 200 dma and positive MACD that looks like it's starting to top out. RSI is moving towards overbought but I still think INTC has about 10% left in it. Today might be a good opportunity to get in for a quick run up. Here's the chart:
WOW and ;D NEWS
14/2005 03:15:32 AM EST
CNET Networks
Intel is expected to launch new processors on Monday starting with its Pentium line that have the ability to subdivide tasks in a hardware feature called Virtualization Technology--or VT. :o
While VT is currently found in some of Intel's Xeon processors, this is the first time that the chipmaking giant has extended the technology to the desktop.
VT makes it easier to run multiple operating systems or applications in independent partitions or "containers" on the same chip, said Chad Taggard, Intel's director of technology marketing.
Intel is currently offering two chips with VT enabled. The 672 and 662 are currently shipping in desktops being offered by Asian PC makers Acer, Founder, Lenovo and TongFang. The Intel processors are priced at $605 and $401 respectively, in 1,000-unit quantities.
Beyond the single-core Pentium 4, Intel is expected to enable its dual-core Pentium D to run VT in the first quarter of 2006. By the first half of next year, Intel expects to fill out the rest of its product line including its next-generation Xeon and Itanium server processors as well as its Pentium M for laptops, Taggard said.
"We are starting out with releasing VT on a single-core Pentium because some government and IT agencies have standards that do not validate dual core as of yet and we want them to still take advantage of virtualization," Taggard said.
In the consumer space, Taggard said the VT technology could prevent some basic computer foul-ups.
For example, playing games or chatting through instant messaging with friends could be partitioned on a separate section of the computer, Taggard said.
"And when the machine turns off, that personal information is destroyed and does not carry on to the other partition," he said.
Online banking could also improve because a partitioned interaction would be erased after use rendering some spyware ineffective.
For dual-processor servers, VT support will arrive with the Dempsey dual-core processor due in the first quarter of 2006. AMD plans to introduce its equivalent technology, code-named Pacifica, in the first half of 2006.
"A company can update a PC's security software or other applications in the background without the user having to stop their work," Taggard said. "Each client could have a partition so that virus updates could be handled as the problem arises. Businesses can better protect themselves from viruses by filtering network traffic through a separate partition before it reaches the user."
The feature improves the performance and flexibility of software such as VMware's ESX Server, Xen and Microsoft's Virtual PC. All three companies have lent their support to Intel's endeavors, Taggard said.
The feature is one of the chipmaking giant's extensions sometimes referred to as a "Star Ts" or *Ts, Taggard said, which Intel plans on combining. Intel's VT is expected to compliment another Intel technology--Active Management Technology--on dual-core Intel business processors code-named Averill, later in 2006.
Hey wax!
Sorry i took so long to get back to you i've just been really busy with school latley so ive been short on time and basically have only had time to focus on the stocks i was interested in. But things are coolin off now in school so feel free to ask questions any time.
My take on INTC:
Looks like consistent PR's have been the arms and legs of this last rally. Would have been a great entry point to hop in on a break of the descending trendline. Price action bottomed out at 23.53 which was near the projected target that the head and shoulders pattern gave so that could have been another indicator to get ready to hop in. The low of the neckline of the head and shoulders pattern is likely where the strongest resistence is gonna be at 25.73. As you can see it looks like price action is slowing down as it approaches this area. RSI is overbought as well so this could be the beginning of a retracement, how far it will drop i dont know. As far as INTC going to 30 i think price action is gonna have to break 25.73 before 30 is a question. As far as right now being an entry point would probably be a bad idea IMO. I don't like chasing rallies, and even more importantly, I dont trade stocks that are over $5 ;D .
Hope i was of any help wax weazle......
good luck on your trade, feel free to ask any more questions.

What is your price target for Intel???
In the next 2 weeks and in the next 2 month.
::)
Intel profit up but sales and forecast misses !!!
Intel reported its fourth-quarter today after the bell and according to report the profit rose 16% but its sales fell short of Wall Street's expectations due to lower-than-expected shipments of desktop computer chips. Intel earned $2.5 billion, or 40 cents a share, compared with $2.1 billion, or 33 cents a share, in the same period last year. Sales rose 6% to $10.2 billion but missed the expectations of analysts. Analysts estimated Intel would earn 43 cents a share, excluding stock option costs. Intel didn't say how much option costs impacted results. Its first quarter sales forecast was also below Wall Street's target, so bad news for the chip sector.
Tecnical Indicators for Intel : MACD + RSI + Fullsto - Bearish
Supports : 24.74 ; 23.79 ; 22.65 ; 22.45 :o
I am only worry about the rivals AMD and INTC. Previously, AMD is always cheaper than the INTC, but hence look at now, AMD share price grows a lot. This indicator suggests that there must be 'something' going on or some reason why this share price for AMD is now higher than INTC.
??? ??? ???
But INTC so far I knew this instrument, they always have negative reports every Q1, but will be rebounding for the next quarters.
Intel dropped about 10% yesterday. Earnings significantly increased but missed wall street's target. IMO, the market clearly overreacted and the stock will be back up trading at or above $25 in a few weeks. Makes for a solid swing play.

hey all,
here are the 3month charts for Yhoo + Intc w/ macd, rsi, vol, 10day, 50day.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ta?t=3m&l=on&z=m&q=l&p=m10%2Cm50&a=m26-12-9%2Cr14&c=&s=intc
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ta?s=YHOO&t=3m&l=on&z=m&q=l&p=m10,m50&a=m26-12-9,r14&c=
now imo, the chart indicates that both stocks are oversold. e.g. rsi = 20ish, huge sudden decline, look at the accompanying volume w/ the decline.
intc had suffered some bad news from headlines indicating slower growth and faster amd growth. however, i feel that amd's stock is way to overbought and intc oversold. lets not forget how big intc is relative to amd. amd can capture some desktop chips but the mobile/laptop chips still all belong to intc.
as for yhoo, its fundamentals arent really changed, it didn't post fantastic/great earnings but that is largely not its fault, more like the sector, look at goog.
in conclusion i think these 2 stocks are oversold. they at least a couple percetanges more. but their charts are something i have never seen b4 or have any experience with. so any experts out their, plz give ur 2 cents and discuss whether now is a good buy point or if it might continue to fall.
tyvm,
I bought INTC at 22.40 on the same idea, and I think it's going to bounce back relatively soon.
AMD is doing very competitively, and they pose a pretty nasty threat to INTC, but I jumped in for the swing. I wouldn't be surprised to see INTC hop back up to 26 dollars a share in the near future.
hi all, objective of this thread is to determine whether INTC + YHOO is bottoming out and could perhaps yield a 10% ish return in a 1-3month period.
here're the 3month, vol+macd+rsi 10day&50day chart for INTC and YHOO
intc:
yhoo:
it's freaky how similar they look eh? both had a approx 15% drop in price recently. since growth investors create tops and value investors create bottoms. the drop in price comes with growth investors shedding shares. however i think the prices for both stocks should be approaching their bottoms now as value investors start picking up these 'relatively' cheap companies.
here is my take on the INTC situation. wall street has for a long time underestimated AMD. therefore, recently when it came to its realization, it drove AMD stocks soaring 60% in 5month's time. wall street thinks the line is in place for amd now, but i think its quite out of wack, amd is overvalued/overpriced. whereas for intel, things are not positive but certainly isn't as bad as what wall street thinks.
this is what i mean by overvalued/undervalued
INTC p/e is 11 indus avg p/e is 30. EPS Growth (ttm) is 21% -8.24%
AMD p/e is 115 indus avg p/e is 30. EPS Growth (ttm) is 51% indus avg is -8.24%
debt wise, both companies are approx indus avg. but i dont think this is very significant since it's not likely either is going to go bankrupt.
Intc's profit margins are better than AMD's
INTC net profit Margin (ttm) is 22.32% indus avg is 11.95%
gross profit Margin (ttm) is 59.37% indus avg is 47.20%
AMD net profit Margin (ttm) is 0.69% indus avg is 11.95%
gross profit Margin (ttm) is 40.90% indus avg is 47.20%
with that in mind, if you look at the technicals, and use technical analysis on the charts to pick an entry point, i think that entry point should be some where around now. RSI is approx 20 (which indicates oversold) MACD took a sudden dive. volume is slowly settling down and seems to be returning to normal.
nothing on the calender really since jan17/18 was when both companies released Qports.
*********
YHOO's case follows the same undervalued arguement so i'll just shorten it.
p/e is 27.47 indus avg is 51.76
eps growth (ttm) is a bit better than indus avg 121% to 88.29%
revenue growth is approx equal to indus avg 39.28% to 40.81 %
profit margins are good, Gross profit margin (ttm) is 61.35 to indus 46.03% net profit margin is 33.78 to 15.87%
conclusion:
intc and yhoo are pretty much unrelated companies but i talk about both together because i tink its a good buying opportunity for both right now because wall street overreacted to some headlines. however, i'm just a novice myself so if i made any mistakes, or totally missed the mark in this write up, plz let me know!

I actually bought 700 shares of INTC at 21.53 for the same reasoning. I believe the stock alone has been hit with tons of downgrades in jan, fear of loosing shares to AMD, potential bankrupcy, etc. and the market has been dragging it down. With very low expectations, going into next earnings season pressure will be focused elsewhere. Basically I feel its oversold, regardless I have to hold for 3 months due to trade restrictions from work. I'm actually looking into YHOO as well, alot of negativity in that sector. I'm trying to lower risk by opening positions at seperate time frame. GL with trading all!
-Brian
I thought INTC would bottom out around 22, so I bought it there, but unfortunately it's been getting hit pretty roughly since it's "Overselling". I definitely believe that it can swing back, and it probably will, it just may take awhile getting there because of recent news and setbacks.
And to put it all into perspective:
INTC not long ago broke its 14-year trend line so in most cases not such a good place to buy. Of course for a quick scalp one can buy at any point for a bounce but I prefer to buy ones going up or at a trend line bounce not break down.
INTC http://tinyurl.com/bfvs6
We may still have some more rally left but the NASDAQ is weak and it is close to a 4-year market cycle top. If it plays out like usual then we will top out in here and drop until Oct-Nov. Then if lucky get one more rally which could put in a final bull market top if this one is not it.
As for YHOO I would wait and see what happens when it get the the 200-day EMA at about $28.50 as that is also a 38% retrace and it may bounce there. If not then 24 and 19 are other supports as chart shows. It may be more clear by the time it gets to the 200-day.
YHOO http://tinyurl.com/brm38
Both of the stocks could probably be shorted with stops above their broken trend lines but thinking there still may be one more market rally this month I am not shorting anything except day trades.
Hi guys, i think the large institutional sellers are about done selling the stocks since for the past 3days, the volume has been pretty consistent and price has been quite stable.
for intc:
since the above chart will change w/ each market day, i'm talking about feb 6, 7,8
so
Open High Low Close Volume
8-Feb-06 20.83 20.84 20.54 20.69 77,626,359
7-Feb-06 20.62 20.94 20.52 20.67 95,298,200
6-Feb-06 20.85 20.85 20.50 20.61 66,858,200
i dont want to pull up all the numbers but basically i think the market has finished factoring in the recent bad news, so basically the stock is no longer as volatile and dangerous as last week. however, the direction of the stock price now depends on any new company headlines or the condition of the whole market.

A month has passed since my last post on this stock. Wow, can any stock have more negative attention? Not even GOOG... 9 of the last 10 analyst opinions has been a downgrades... O what!! Lower revenue guidance?? Tell the market something that we don't know and expect. P/E at 14.5, P/B at 3.35, 12.77B in cash, Dividend yield at 2%. What do you guys think?

Its at is low. 19.60 What u guys see? A great in point?
I have been observing Intel for a few months, but somehow I feel it didn't find its supporting line or its bottom and that's why the chart hasn't been moving very strong. As probably everybody knows, intel is providing Apple with chips as well and I was assuming that this partnership will boost up the value of the stock traded !!? While many other companies have seen an increase of their paper, intel's 1 year return was -12.95%. I was hoping if anybody know what might be the reason for the sideward movement of intel. I am new on 3sof and really enjoy reading posts and topics. Thanks everybody and have a nice weekend :)
ANYONE who wants to make any money...INTC is one of the best investments outhere....

FYI -- Wall Street Analyst Quotes about AMD vs. Woodcrest/Core.
(Note: At its analyst mtg. yesterday, AMD put up foils showing Woodcrest at a 28% power disadvantage relative to Opteron based on questionable analysis -- strong support from the server team allowed us to mount a Blackberry campaign to educate analysts as they prepared their reports. While many analysts have good things to say about AMD, their attempts vs. Woodcrest / Core have been impacted. For some reason, their stock is down 3% -- not what one hopes for after such an event.)

Joe Osha, Merrill Lynch
Overall, it's hard to criticize anything that AMD is doing, and if we were in management's shoes we would be doing the same thing that AMD is. The problem is that Intel is no longer asleep at the switch, and is getting ready to offer products that compete effectively with AMD across most of AMD's lineup. It's not clear to us that AMD is equipped to withstand that competitive pressure without seeing financial performance deteriorate. We reiterate our sell rating.
David Wu, Global Crown Capital: "Lies, Damn Lies, and ..."
We were perplexed by AMD's performance-per-watt leadership claim as 1) AMD deliberately compared its Opteron to Paxville (soon-to-be 2 generations old) and avoided Intel's extremely competitive Woodcrest processor that will be launched in a few weeks; 2) AMD again decreased Opteron's total system power consumption by ignoring North Bridge components and increased Woodcrest's by doubling the number of memory slots (16 FB-DIMMs instead of a typical 8 FB-DIMMs for DP). According to trusted 3rd party reviews, Woodcrest DP system consumes roughly 20% less power and outperforms at least 20% at the same time .... The new platforms that AMD announced (4x4, Torrenza, Trinity, and Raiden) do not have firm delivery dates .... Our investment thesis is that Intel will recapture market shares in volume server and the desktop markets from new product launches in Jun06/Jul06 and should have product superiority for at least 4 quarters. We recommend buying the stock before market share shifting significantly in INTC's favor starting 3QCY06. Roadmap comparison: AMD will not have competitive microprocessors in the desktop, DP server and the workstation markets until their first quad core processor Deerhound in 2HCY07.
Hans Mosesmann, Moors & Cabot
Rather than comment on various benchmarks Intel has released based on real world applications (where Woodcrest has a 13% - 18% edge in power), AMD preferred to compare Projected (theoretical) Platform Power Consumption using maximum power specs in the calculations, which we dare say is ripe for debate. In AMD's example, Opteron trounces Woodcrest by some 28% less power though in reality we don't believe all system components would run at max power simultaneously. As an example, the memory subsystem would not be running at max power when the CPU is running at max power. AMD failed to include the power used by a PCIe bridge and doubled the content of the Intel system memory (above average configurations). We are sure that critical observers can also make the same arguments on configurations of both systems to prove their side of the argument; our point is that to make the case in the performance/watt discussion, why not put a real AMD Opteron system vs. a real Intel Woodcrest system and prove the point. Or at least make the case that last week's benchmarks from Intel are suspect in some way or fashion. In summary, the real world comparison of these server systems would not only be intellectually more powerful in proving a point, it also would limit observers, such as ourselves, who are starting to get a sense that AMD has been caught flat footed on how to position its product line to Intel's Core.
AMD WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STAY A HEAD OF INTC FOR LONG. AMD IS GOING DoWN...GO INTC
I read and bought into INTC a week ago. As i expected INTC is finally waking up. AMD is down for the second day on a row while intc is up. THe tide is shifting. INTC BACK TO $25.
Will be interesting to see what happens with intel over the next little while with the introduction of Core 2 the replacement for the Pentium chip. So far all great reviews. Intel reports tomorrow so it shall be interesting to see their growth outlook. Good luck to any holders if indeed there are any here.

Intel's Core 2 Duo Unanimously Praised, Gives Intel Performance Crown
Category: Industry Buzz - July 18, 2006
By David Walker
It's been quite a while since anyone has been able to say this, but Intel is now the performance king in the consumer market - taking the lead from the long-standing leader AMD. Intel's new Core 2 Duo lineup has not only wrestled away the performance crown, but according to CNET, praise for the new chips has been unanimous. Topping AMD's fastest processors by over 20% in some tests, even the mid-range Intel Core 2 Duo chips (the E6700 and E6600) outperformed AMD's FX-62 chip in several benchmarks. The Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme - a chip geared towards the enthusiast and hardcore gamer market - easily leaves behind AMD's top offerings.
Intel's surge to performance supremacy is also coupled with a significant change in thermodynamics. In the past, Intel's Pentium 4 and Pentium D chips were characterized by their extremely high temperatures and equally appalling wattage requirements. The Intel Core 2 Duo changes that trend as well, and according to ZDNet, Intel didn't just improve - it has bested AMD and by a wide margin. AMD, not being blind to having lost the performance crown, has responded by saying that they will soon cut prices on their high-end X2 processors to remain the better pricing bargain against Intel's new processor series. Now that Intel is back in the game, computer users can look forward to the price cuts and increased performance that AMD and Intel will no doubt engage in over the next few years.
Intel has taken a lot of heat over the last couple of years as AMD has taken over a vast amount of their desktop market, a place they could not be touched in previous times, and this has hurt Intel more than they will ever admit. AMD actually beat them at their own game, changed the way they name and design CPUs, and released their FX brand, which out performed the Intel solution almost across the board. The AMD FX62 was the fastest Dual-Core CPU on the market until this release and it makes me proud of AMD for finally getting their act together as a major force in the Industry.
Intel on the other hand has soured me with a few CPUs that ran so hot that nothing short of a liquid cooling system could keep them from massively overheating and shutting down my PC. This area alone is a strange turn of events as AMD traditionally was the guy who had the hot CPUs, but until Conroe, AMD has had the cooler running CPUs as Intel's high-end Pressler's ran at least 20 Celsius hotter than a comparable FX CPU. This is really the main reason I think Intel has taken such a hit in the desktop retail market. Let's just face it heat is the enemy, and when your CPU is so hot that standard cooling becomes beyond obsolete there is a big problem to the enthusiasts user base. I mean c'mon out of the box temps running at 55-59 C is one hot CPU.
I believe those days are over with the release of the Conroe series as their new CPUs run at a lovely 25 Celsius running under a full load, which is actually lower than a human's body temperature of 98.6 Fahrenheit. The new FX62 runs at about 32-35 C using stock cooling, that although not too hot is still hotter than the new breed of Conroe's by a small margin. From what we have seen of Conroe so far, Intel is ready to kick ass and take names again in the CPU arena and offer no apologies. Today we take a look at two of the top end offerings in the new Core 2 and Duo lineup, the X6800 and E6700 CPUs. Gone now are the old-school naming conventions used in previous years as Intel has also abandoned the name game that used core speeds as the CPU name. Today's CPUs get lovely names like the X6800, which sounds like an ATI card, the E6300-6700s, sounding like motherboards, to the 805-945 CPUs that do not generate in my opinion catchy names, but hey I liked my CPUs when they had a simple Intel 3.4GHz EE or 3.8GHz P4 nomenclature. Beyond opinion and rhetoric though Intel has done a great job and I feel that this will be their redemption to their loyal fan base of users. Follow along and see what's under the hood of Intel's new Conroe series, I think you will like what you see.
Intel's New Core 2 Duo Processors Run Blazingly Fast in PC World Tests
PCs with new 'Conroe' chips decisively outscore AMD-based rivals in our tests.

Power to Spare
Our motherboard Core 2 Duo test setup consisted of an Intel 975X Express board, 2GB of DDR2-667 memory, a pair of SATA hard drives configured in a striped array, and an nVidia GeForce 7800GT-based graphics card. We swapped first a 2.93-GHz Core 2 Extreme X6800 chip and then a 2.67-GHz Core 2 E6700 chip into that setup to generate scores we could compare directly to an otherwise identically configured system featuring AMD's new DDR2-capable AM2 platform and its top-of-the-line FX-62 processor.
Both of the Intel setups bested the AMD-based system on every test in our WorldBench 5 suite as well as on every one of our gaming tests (see chart below). The improvement on WorldBench 5's multitasking tests, which involve running a Web browsing session in Mozilla while encoding a file with Windows Media Encoder, was particularly dramatic. You'll also see notable gains in Photoshop and similar graphics applications.

Chart of INTC
In late July, Intel posted its lowest sales and profit figures since 2004 and offered a weaker-than-expected sales forecast for the quarter ending in September.
Shares of Intel were up 1.7% at $19.91 in pre-market trading Friday. They closed Thursday at $19.57, down 27 cents, well off the 52-week high of $27.49.
Already, Intel has unveiled plans to eliminate 1,000 management positions worldwide, and the chipmaker sold off its struggling cellular processor line to Marvell Technology Group. More layoffs and asset sales had been expected once Intel Chief Executive Paul Otellini completed his top-to-bottom review.
The latest job reductions are likely to weigh heavily on marketing staff, according to CNET, which reported the job cuts could reach 10,000. The Journal reported the job cuts could reach 20,000.
Chuck Mulloy, an Intel spokesman, would not comment on what he characterized as speculation, The Journal reported. Yet Mulloy indicated that results of an internal efficiency study, under way since the spring, would at least be announced by the end of September.
"We have committed to reporting on the restructuring before the end of the third quarter," The Journal quoted Mulloy as saying. "We are on track to do that." See more technology coverage. End of Story

Semiconductor sales hit all-time high
By Chris Nuttall in San Francisco
Monday Oct 2 2006 17:15
Sales of semiconductors worldwide have reached an all-time monthly record of $20.5bn, according to statistics from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).
The August figures also showed strength in the microprocessor segment dominated by Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) and Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE:AMD) , with unit shipments up 5.6 per cent on the previous month.
Analysts at Bank of America said the momentum was partly driven by price-cutting by Intel and AMD over the summer "which, coupled with resumption of seasonal build for PCs, bodes well for continued growth in this segment".
Citigroup analysts said microprocessor sales were up 16.5 per cent in the third quarter to date and the figures supported their raised estimates for Intel and AMD. They said average selling prices increased by a third in August "supporting our view that pricing has stabilised . . . and easing investor concerns of a [microprocessor] price war".
But average selling prices were down 18 per cent on a year ago, reflecting the strong competition between Intel and AMD.
Merrill Lynch analysts pointed out that microprocessor bookings "grew an impressive 86 per cent month-on-month . . . it's clear that August benefited from pushed-out demand from earlier in the year".
George Scalise, SIA president, said there had been relatively strong sales across a broad range of semiconductor products, reflecting healthy end markets. Sales were up 2.1 per cent on July and 10 per cent on the $18.6bn recorded in August 2005. The previous record monthly sales were $20.4bn in November last year.
"Sales growth was led by [dynamic random access memory chips], which increased by 7.5 per cent from July and by 31.5 per cent from August 2005, an indication that PC sales remained strong," he said.
Well of course earnings could eat this chip but I am hoping otherwise. We are coming up on the golden cross and I'm thinking maybe then a push up to $23.00 and then a gap fill would be nice!
Good trading to all!

When do they report?
Interesting chart. The Rectangle Target of 20.92 MADE, then we went into an Ascending Triangle, iwith the highs slightly above that, at 20.95 and 20.98.
I thought that maybe Goldman's taking INTC off its "Conviction Buy" list on Wednesday might be a problem, but that turned into the 4th Data point (low) for the Ascending Triangle, prior to yesterday's breakout. That puts Target: 21.73 IN PLAY, but unfortunately, just like the Rectangle breakout, that doesn't give us anything extra. 21.94 has been IN PLAY since the August 28 W-Bottom breakout.

1. Introduction
I'll apply my method of using both technical and fundamental inputs to get a feel on Intel's share price direction. I'm a firm believer that a successful investor needs to know what he's doing and why he's doing it, but at the same time and above all, respect the market's opinion.
As you'll see, I start this analysis with my mind completely open to all possibilities. As I get information I start to develop an opinion on the stock and end with an objective trading plan.
I hope you enjoy :) If you do and want to receive subsequent updates on this analysis, as other comprehensive analysis on different stocks, please register (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=register).

3. Technical Analysis
3.1. All History Chart
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=27584;image)
I'm sure you like these very long term charts. It's a pity www.stockcharts.com only gives users access to 3 years of data, isn't it? I think it's hard to make meaningful studies on stocks with such limited data.
Anyway, INTC was an incredible stock to own until early 2000. Since then it collapsed 70% and stayed down. From this information you know INTC was a market darling in the past, and usually these stocks find it hard to comeback to new all time highs, because of the overhead supply.
3.2. Medium Term Chart
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=27585;image)
The medium term chart on INTC is bearish to neutral. There's strong resistance around $24 and $30.
3.3. Short Term Chart
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=27586;image)
Actually INTC is at a critical point on the short term chart today. It is important, from a technical perspective, that it comes back to finish in the green today, or it will break a short term ascending trendline on the downside.
The 50 day simple moving average may provide the support for a late day rally. Bulls are hoping for this outcome.
Generally the technical picture isn't attractive. It looks like there may be some bounce from current levels and a bull run to medium term resistance levels, but the risk on the downside seems greater at this point. Let's check the fundamentals :)
4. Fundamental Analysis
4.1. Number of Shares Outstanding
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=27587;image)
INTC is aggressively reducing its number of shares outstanding and this is a bullish development. The company is buying back shares it sold to the public in the past and this has a positive effect on Earnings Per Share. Also, the share price needs to rise just to keep the same market cap, as market cap = share price*# outstanding shares.
The current market cap is $118.1 B.
4.2. Liquidity
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=27597;image)
This latest quarter the current ratio, which is the ratio between total current assets and total current liabilities, fell below the crucial level of 2. INTC's balance sheet is getting weaker.
4.3. Revenues
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=27598;image)
Intel's revenues grew every year since 1994 until 2000. Then there was the 2001 hangover and a fall in annual revenues from $33.73 B to $26.54 B. 2005 marked the all time high in revenues for INTC, but analysts are estimating slightly lower revenues for 2006 and 2007. I wonder why is that. Because of competition from AMD?
Anyway, INTC's revenue multiple is 3.31 against an average Price to Sales Ratio for the semiconductor industry of 2.6.
4.4. Profits
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=27599;image)
There's been steady earnings growth since the debacle of 2001, but analysts are a bit pessimistic about 2006 and 2007, even though they've been revising their estimates higher for 2007 and the 4th quarter of 2006. Perhaps this is a bullish factor.
The Price Earnings Ratio for 2006 currently stands at 24, for 2007 it stands at 18. The sector's average earnings multiple is 23.5, so INTC multiple is about average.
5. General Overview
As we've seen, the technical picture on INTC is mixed to bearish. In terms of the fundamentals, I truly enjoy the reduction in the number of shares outstanding, but I also note that the balance sheet got a bit weak on the 3rd quarter. After the 2001 downhill, INTC's revenues and earnings are coming back in full force, surpassing it's all time highs set in 2000.
But analysts are somewhat conservative for the remainder of 2006 and 2007. I believe there's room for positive earnings surprises on INTC going forward.
Globalization is making the world grow at rates not seen since the 1960's. INTC is a global company and will definitely benefit from the world economy growth, as more and more of the 3 billion people from the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) suddenly come to the market buying the expensive goods we've become used to in the past 25 years or so.
6. Trading Plan
I'm preparing myself to manage the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio, a $325,000 portfolio that started in April 2005 with $100,000. This portfolio is organized to have a maximum of 15 different stock holdings, and although I'm moderately bullish on INTC, I don't think it is one of the top 15 stocks in terms of risk/reward available in the market.
Will work to find more attractive plays. Don't forget to register (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=register) so you can receive the 3 Stocks on Fire free newsletter. Thank you !

Well, I have a paid service, but it is very cheap, just $5 a month to get all the fundamental information I need on user friendly tables. You can get the service at www.alphatrade.com.
But I also subscribe to their quotes and news services, I don't know if you can subscribe just the "Fundamentals" or you need the full package. My package costs $40 a month, but it's worth it.
But there's no historical information on the number of shares outstanding, I get it by dividing the net income number by the earnings per share number, since EPS = Net Income/# outstanding shares => # outstanding shares = Net Income/EPS.
Yes, you have this information for all US traded stocks, OTCBB stocks included (but no Pink Sheets).

The 34/55 RSIs came into Bullish Synchronicity on Friday. The high Friday was 20.69, so that's the "buy pivot." A print of 20.70 today is a technical Buy Signal from that indicator, so that looks good.
INTC is currently just above it, at BID 20.72...ASK 20.73

Bought back my shares of INTC this morning, at 20.55, after it reversed off the morning low at 20.32, and went green. Stop: 20.31. Risk: a loss of 1.2%.
Sold ½ my INTC at 21.13. Gain: 2.8%.
Sold it to defend against this being nothing more than a gap-filling rally, back to the bottom of this broken Symmetrical Triangle.
INTC has been bullish and MADE 3 upside target, so my trading thesis yesterday was that this Symmetrical Triangle "morphed" into a Bull Flag at the 50DMA (see the chart that I posted yesteday).
If my thesis about the Bull Flag is incorrect, I still will manage a gain on this trade if I'm stopped out for a 1.2% loss on the other ½ position.

INTC has been bullish and MADE 3 upside target, so my trading thesis yesterday was that this Symmetrical Triangle "morphed" into a Bull Flag at the 50DMA (see the chart that I posted yesteday).
INTC also put in a W-Bottom at the 50DMA. Yesterday was a DOUBLE breakout:
21.18 - was a breakout of the W-Bottom. 21.96 is IN PLAY
21.51 - was a breakout of the Bull Flag/Bull Channel: 22.03 and 23.21 are IN PLAY.
Even if this turns out to be a Double Top, INTC has done a beautiful job coming out of that W-Bottom in late August:
1. Our 3 upside pattern targets MADE
before earnings, so that wasn't a worry.
2. The 50DMA not only was support on the selloff after earnings, as it "should be," INTC validated the 50DMA as support TWiCE, and in the process, put in a nice little "W"-Bottom, which is a fractal (repeating pattern) of the original Bullish W-Bottom that broke out on August 28.
3. INTC opened yesterday at 21.17 exactly, which was the pivot of the "W"-Bottom, filled all but three cents of the little opening gap, then broke out of the "W"-Bottom AND broke out of the Bull Flag/Bull Channel.
The only thing that I might like better than this chart, is the fact that Thomas Weisel, Goldman and Merrill Lynch all DOWNGRADED this stock, but INTC continued to act bullish, just as the patterns indicated.
It reinforces, "Ignore those men behind the curtain. They're no more wizards than we are." :D
Sold another 25% of the postion at 22.03. Gain: 7.3%

Sold another 25% of the postion at 22.03. Gain: 7.3%
25% of my long position remaining.
INTC has come back into the Bull Flag Channel, and closed just above its 50DMA, at 20.92. I'll sell the remaining 25% of my long postion at 20.75, if it gets printed, for a 1% gain on that portion.
That will give me another winning trade in INTC: 3½% for this one.

The low was
20.76, so I'm still 25% long.
The close was three cents above the 50DMA. INTC needs to rally back out of the channel to put the 23.21 target back IN PLAY.

INTC got slammed in AH after releasing this bad news http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070116/earns_intel.html?.v=16
I like to see how this effects tomorrow trading on tech stocks and the nasdaq.
I don't think things are so bad for Intel this quarter. They have cut costs to compensate for lower margins which are still 49%, not too terrible and core is just kicking in. Their currently trading this morning at around 21.30, I hope this can form a good base for a 6 month push up to $27. Its a long term play no doubt but it's fun to watch whats going on between them and AMD.

I believe it's time to climb. JMO
We shall see.

Some of my stocks are kinda "hanging on the edge."
I think I need INTC and IBM to save the market!
I expect good things from INTC, we just need good guidance on the worldwide growth story.
so i just heard this interview about intel (intel interview (http://"http://tv.wallst.net/referral/roz_e123/3-minute-press")) and apparently they're going to be working with dreamworks. big news.
according to the interview dreamworks is apparently going to be doing all of their films in 3D starting...i believe next year (they have some film in the works already) and in order to make this work for their company, so that they have the best technology to get the work done in a timely manner, they've selected intel to upgrade their systems
i think this is going to make intel's stock rise as dreamworks is big name in the film industry and this news is fantastic
INTC (intel) trading on the nasdaq at 19.87 today with a 52 week range of 18.05 - 27.99, this might be a low point but there stock has already gone up .25% today and rising.
this stock might be a bit pricey for you if you're used to penny stocks, but with this news, intel seems like it might be a good investment right now
what do you think?
SEMICONDUCTOR HOLDERS CLEAR APRIL HIGH.......
The ability of any stock index or group to clear its April high is a sure sign of strength. In case you haven't noticed, the Semiconductor Holders are doing just that today. I point that out because, up until a couple of months ago, chip stocks were market laggards. Chart 1, however, shows that's no longer the case. Not only is the SMH clearing its April, high, but the SMH/SPX ratio (below chart) has been rising since early September. A number of individual stocks in the group have hit new 52-week highs including (in order of size) Texas Instruments (TXN), Analog-Devices (ADI), Altera (ALTR), Linear Technology (LLTC), Broadcom (BRCM), KLA-Tencor (KLAC), and Novellus (NVLS). One of the biggest chip stocks (which is often viewed as a group bellwether) is Intel which has been a group laggard. But it too is is starting to look a lot stronger. Chart 2 shows Intel trading at a new three-month high after clearing a six-month down trendline and its 200-day moving average. The strong upturn in semiconductors also carries good news for the broader market since it's a big part of the technology sector. And the market is usually stronger when the technology sector (and the Nasdaq) are leading it higher. Another heavily weighted chip stock, Applied Materials, has also just cleared its 200-day line (Chart 3).
