I just found this very interesting presentation on naked shorting (or counterfeiting), systemic market manipulation and the SEC's failure to do anything about it. It's a bit long (the main part is almost an hour) but it is very informative, and provides quite an eye opener into the underlying machinery of the markets, how hedges operate and their repercussions, and exactly why the SEC fails to do anything about it.
