Unico, Inc. Announces Interim Summary Report on Analysis of Diamond Core Samples From Drilling Program at Deer Trail Mine
By Market Wire
Last Update: 10/19/2006 9:02:52 AM Data provided by
SAN DIEGO, CA, Oct 19, 2006 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- Unico, Incorporated (UCOI), a natural resource company in the precious metals mining sector, today announced results from an Interim Summary Report submitted by Behre Dolbear and Company, Inc., which is providing geological and analytical services at Unico's Deer Trail Mine in Marysvale, Utah.
The report from Behre Dolbear states:
"Unico, Incorporated drilled 7,235 feet of BQ diameter core at various inclinations and azimuths from four drill stations in the Patrick Thomas Henry (PTH) adit at the Deer Trail Mine from December 2004 to April 2005. At that time, the core was not logged in detail and no analyses were done. Table 1 summarizes the drilling statistics. The station locations are defined based on the approximate footage from the PTH adit portal.
Behre Dolbear & Company (USA), Inc. (Behre Dolbear) contracted with Unico in March 2006 to geologically log the core, select intervals for analyses and assays, supervise the sawing of the selected intervals, submit those samples to a laboratory for analyses, opine on the mineralization observed, and provide technical advice to Unico. Between March 23, 2006 and October 6, 2006, Behre Dolbear logged in detail 4,429 feet of core from the eight holes indicated in Table1. A total of 550 samples totaling 611 feet of core containing trace to significant mineralization from six of the holes (UDDH 1, 5, 9, 11, 12, and 13) has been selected, sawed, submitted for analyses and assays, and the results received and evaluated. Analyses are pending from 228 samples from 385 feet of core in UDDH 3. UDDH 4 has been logged, but sample intervals have not been selected.
ALS Chemex (Chemex) did the analyses and assays at its laboratory in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Sample preparation, analyses, and assays were done as requested by Behre Dolbear using Chemex's standard protocols. Gold was determined by fire assay with an atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) finish. All samples were also analyzed for a 34-element suite of major and potentially significant trace elements using an aqua regia digestion and an emission spectrographic scan. Chemex's quality control-quality assurance system complies with the requirements of the international standards ISO 90001:2000 and ISO17025:1999.
The Pennsylvanian Callville Limestone is the host of the mineralization in the holes logged by Behre Dolbear at the Deer Trail Mine. Behre Dolbear has logged over 4,400 feet of core that traverses the various lithologies of the upper 700 feet of that formation. This detailed logging has resulted in the recognition of ten previously unrecognized informal members and/or other subdivisions that will enable future work to place the mineralized horizons in the vicinity of the mine into stratigraphic perspective.
The mineralization in the Callville Limestone typically consists of stratabound narrow conformable bands of semi-massive to massive sulfides separated by relatively long intervals of weakly mineralized to barren rock. Ore minerals include sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite, and tetrahedrite-tennantite. Where the significantly mineralized zones are thicker, the mineralized bands are closer together.
Based on the analytical results received to date, Behre Dolbear combined 33 continuous assay intervals from six holes into gross assay intervals ranging from 2.3 feet to 95 feet in length, uncorrected to true stratigraphic width. Intervals within the gross intervals were combined into 113 detailed intervals based on their grades."
Mark A. Lopez, chief executive officer of Unico, Inc., commented, "While this interim report only reflects a portion of the work that Behre Dolbear has included in its Interim Summary Report we are very pleased with the results so far. Additional information from the interim report is planned for a subsequent announcement in the next several days. The additional information includes the weighted average grades from the best intervals in each of the six holes analyzed.
"We appreciate Behre Dolbear's willingness to provide this information, so that Unico shareholders can be informed of the initial work by Behre Dolbear at the Deer Trail Mine. It shows well for the progress thus far that Behre Dolbear would provide the information in this report rather than waiting for the final summary report to release any results," Mr. Lopez added.

Unico, Inc. Announces Mineralization Results From Interim Summary Report on Analysis of Diamond Core Samples From Drilling Program at Deer Trail Mine
Thursday , October 26, 2006 08:55 ET
SAN DIEGO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 10/26/06 -- Unico, Incorporated (OTCBB: UCOI), a natural resource company in the precious metals mining sector, today announced additional information from an Interim Summary Report submitted by Behre Dolbear and Company (USA), Inc., ("Behre Dolbear") which is providing geological services at Unico's Deer Trail Mine in Marysvale, Utah. This report, which encompasses only a portion of the total holes that will be ultimately analyzed in the Final Summary Report from Behre Dolbear, includes the best intervals of mineralization for each hole analyzed thus far and provides values of gold, silver copper, lead, and zinc.
The report from Behre Dolbear states:
"The best intervals based on thickness and grades in multiple metals in the six holes from which analyses have been received are listed in Table 2.
Table 2 shows that significant mineralization in most of the holes is confined to relatively narrow intervals ranging from 1.0 feet to 10.6 feet. The thickest intercept with significant mineralization is in UDDH 12 at 55.2 feet. The intervals are uncorrected for the true widths of the intercepts and will all be thinner than stated, some possibly as much as fifty percent thinner. Overall, silver contributes the most value of the metals in Table 2 with zinc second and gold, copper, and lead contributing subordinate values. In some of the intervals, the silver and gold are high but the base metals are low. Copper contributes more value than zinc in some of these intervals. Only one of the intervals (UDDH 11 at 105.0 to 110.6 feet) has high values in all of the metals. The highest gold and silver values are in UDDH 1 (5.273 ppm Au=0.167oz/t Au; 366.9 ppm Ag= 10.71 oz/t Ag), and UDDH 11 (4.564 ppm Au= 0.133 oz/t Au; 585.1 ppm Ag= 17.08oz/t Ag).

There is potential for an economic deposit at the Deer Trail Mine if the metals occur together in significant grades and in widths (generally greater than 10 feet) that are adequate for mining. Additional work is required to determine if those conditions exist. Before additional drilling is done, the results of the logging, analyses, and observations by Behre Dolbear should be combined with the data and results from previous work to develop a three-dimensional model of the deposit. Development of that model will require data from surface and underground mapping, previous mining, and drilling from this and previous campaigns. All of this data on lithologies, structures, mineralization, and alteration must be put together on maps and cross sections to build the model. Based on that model, the geometry (true widths and lateral extents) and grades of the mineralization as currently known will be indicated and decisions can be made if additional drilling has the potential to define economically mineable mineralization. It has not been determined if there is adequate data available from previous work to construct a good model."
Wayne Ash, President of Unico, Inc., commented, "The information in the Interim Summary Report is precisely what we were looking for from these initial holes. The report shows that in the holes analyzed thus far, there is at least one mineralized area of considerable thickness, UDDH 12, and that there are smaller thicknesses of higher-grade ore, such as the gold and silver occurring in UDDH 1 and UDDH 11. The results to this point have confirmed our expectations, and we look forward to the completion of the analysis of the data and the final report from Behre Dolbear."
Mark A. Lopez, chief executive officer of Unico, Inc., stated, "With the work completed thus far, we are well on our way to establishing new paths for future mining potential at the Deer Trail mine. This initial data will only enhance the direction of our exploration plans and help to define new areas of targeted interest never known to exist.
"We appreciate the insight and continued efforts by Behre Dolbear and await their additional reporting and analysis on this phase 2 program. Their consulting views are extremely important to us, and we are very encouraged by their interest in our project," added Mr. Lopez.

Unico, Inc. Reports Additional Reconstruction of the Mill and Processing Facility at the Deer Trail Mine
Wednesday, November 01, 2006 09:00 ET
SAN DIEGO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 11/01/06 -- Unico, Incorporated (OTCBB: UCOI), a natural resource company in the precious metals mining sector, today announced additional progress on reconstruction at the mill and processing facility at the Deer Trail Mine in Marysvale, Utah.
A new photo gallery showing the recent construction has been added to the "Media" section Unico website at www.unicomining.com/news/othermedia.php. Among the pictures added to the new reconstruction photo gallery are several that show placement and assembly of equipment at the facility, construction of a new building that will house the thickener tanks and filtration, surveying of the existing tailings pond, and installation of electric and control panels for the facility.
Jean Duvall, the millwright contracted to inspect the ball mill and supervise improvements, is on site to oversee the parts installation and completion of the ball mill. New rubber ball mill liners, which replaced the worn-out steel liners, were fabricated, delivered to the site and will be installed by representatives from Weir Minerals North America Rubber Engineering (www.weirminerals.com) who are also now on site at the Deer Trail property. Rubber liners tend to last two to three times longer than steel liners and will provide several additional advantages, including an expected 15% reduction of the company's electric bill and allow the ball-mill to run much more quietly, enhancing mill communications and the environment.
The screening of stockpiled material at the upper Deer Trail Mine is continuing, and the screened material is being moved to the mill in preparation for further processing. The stockpiled material comes from approximately 20,000 tons of material, which was mined over several decades in the first half of the 20th century. In total, the company has identified approximately 80,000 tons of material from this area, which it plans to screen and process at the Deer Trail mill facility. Historically, the material mined in this area has contained economical values of both gold and silver.
Both the screening operations and the reconstruction of the mill and processing facility is being undertaken so that Unico's wholly owned mining subsidiary, Deer Trail Mining Company, Inc. can begin processing the stockpiles of material on site and start producing concentrates to sell in fulfillment of a five-year purchase contract with PGM, LLC, a private subsidiary of Polymet Corporation.
"The upgrades being made to the mill and processing facility at the Deer Trail Mine are expected to improve the facility's efficiency and performance by removing outdated equipment and parts and replacing them with technologically superior ones," stated Mark A. Lopez, chief executive officer of Unico, Inc. "We are pleased with the reconstruction efforts thus far and are looking forward to the completion of the mill facility and establishing revenues from its operation."

Unico, Inc. Announces Purchase of Main Transformer for Electrical Substation at the Deer Trail Mine
Monday , January 22, 2007 08:47ET
SAN DIEGO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 01/22/07 -- Unico, Incorporated (OTCBB: UCOI), a natural resource company in the precious metals mining sector, today announced that the company has purchased the main transformer for its new electrical substation at the mill and processing facility at the Deer Trail Mine in Marysvale, Utah.
The General Electric transformer was purchased from Denver Magnetic, Inc. and delivery is expected within the next three weeks. In the interim, the substation site will be prepared for the grounding circuits and concrete foundation.
The primary voltage of the transformer is 46,000 volts, which will be provided to the Deer Trail Mine from PacifiCorp, which operates in Utah as Rocky Mountain Power. The secondary voltage of 12,470/7,200 will be sent to the mill by direct burial cable. The 12,470 voltage will then be further reduced to the required 480 volts required to operate the mill. The availability of additional voltage allows for the planned future expansion at the site, including larger crushing equipment, an additional ball mill and power to operate mining activities as needed.
"We are pleased to have purchased the main transformer for our new substation, since this is a critical component of the facility," stated Mark A. Lopez, chief executive officer of Unico, Inc. "With reconstruction of the mill and processing facility at the Deer Trail Mine in the completion phase, we are also focused on having the power requirements for the site in place, so that processing operations can begin as soon as possible."
Unico's wholly owned subsidiary, Deer Trail Mining Company, Inc., has contracted with BNA Consulting, Inc. (www.bnaconsulting.com), a major provider of electrical consulting services in Utah and surrounding states for 35 years, for a broad range of engineering services related to the construction of the substation. BNA's procurement services include assisting in locating the best quality electrical equipment possible, including starters and other required electrical components. The design and completion of the new substation itself is expected to provide substantial cost savings as a result of lower energy costs and greater reliability, and the use of good quality equipment is expected to reduce equipment costs by approximately 40%.
BNA recently finished the new building lighting and basic electrical schematic and is currently completing the engineering work for the new substation. Installation of the necessary service panels and fixtures is expected to begin immediately. The electrical panels will be temporarily connected to a generator at the Deer Trail site to assist with ongoing construction until the substation is complete.
BNA has proposed locating the new substation within 600 feet of the Deer Trail mill, directly adjoining the Rocky Mountain Power substation. This location will reduce the cost of the overhead line drop and the number of poles required to transport the higher voltage of 46,000 volts to the newly acquired transformer.

BNA consulting is finalizing the blueprints for the new substation and construction is expected to begin shortly. With the completed blueprints, the ground will be prepared and leveled and a concrete foundation will be poured for the main transformer, which is now ready for delivery to the site.
"We have been extremely fortunate and have experienced good weather conditions this winter at the Deer Trail Mine," said Mark A. Lopez, chief executive officer of Unico, Inc. "Since the beginning of the year, there has been consistent progress on the reconstruction of the mill and processing facility, and the recent work in both the main mill building and the new building have taken us further through the completion phase of this project.
"As we continue to complete our work in those buildings, we will also focus considerable attention on the construction of the new substation, which will provide power to our reconstructed mill and help it to run in a more cost-effective manner. We are pleased with this progress and look forward to reporting additional milestones in the next several weeks," added Mr. Lopez.

SAN DIEGO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 03/26/07 -- Unico, Incorporated (OTCBB: UCOI), a natural resource company in the precious metals mining sector, today announced that Behre Dolbear and Company (USA), Inc., a preeminent mining industry consultancy firm that is providing geological services at Unico's Deer Trail Mine in Marysvale, Utah, has completed its logging and splitting work on core samples taken from the underground diamond core drilling program conducted at the Deer Trail Mine in 2005.
The final core samples have been bagged and tagged under the supervision of Behre Dolbear's consulting geologist Alex Scarbrough and shipped to the ALS Chemex lab in North Vancouver, British Columbia for assay. A Final Summary Report will be completed and submitted to Unico by Behre Dolbear.
Photographs of the bagged and tagged samples have been added to the core logging and splitting photo gallery on Unico's website at www.unicomining.com./news/gallery.php?category_id=35.
In the final round of core logging and splitting work, sample intervals were logged from the following holes UDDH #8, 0-565 feet UDDH #10, 0-459 feet, UDDH #6, 0-409 feet, and UDDH #2, 0-654 feet. Sample numbers, sample intervals, and lithologic and mineralogic descriptions were entered into the spreadsheet templates for the logged holes. In addition, sample intervals were marked on previously logged UDDH #4 in preparation for splitting.
A total of 298 samples encompassing 863 feet of core from six holes (UDDH #2, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 10) were shipped from Richfield, Utah to ALS Chemex in North Vancouver, B.C. Behre Dolbear supervised the splitting, participated in the tagging and bagging, prepared the sample submittal sheets, and shipped the samples.
Behre Dolbear also completed the following tasks while the core splitting was being completed: 1) Tabulated bedding angles to core axes for composited intervals in holes UDDH #1, 3, 5, 9, 11, 12, and 13 for calculation of true thicknesses; 2) Revised stratigraphic nomenclature and edited text describing stratigraphy for a report; and 3) Assembled data and began drafting geology and history of the Marysvale District and the Upper and Lower Deer Trail Mines, including production and grade of the latter, for a report.
Behre Dolbear will draft a complete report on the logging and analytical results of the thirteen Deer Trail holes when the analyses from the six holes conducted by ALS Chemex are received and evaluated.
"We are pleased that the final shipment of core samples have been sent to ALS Chemex for assay and look forward to the Final Summary Report from Behre Dolbear," commented Mark A. Lopez, chief executive officer of Unico, Inc. "The information in the Final Summary Report is expected to assist in our efforts to broaden our exploration plans and establish new paths for future mining potential at the Deer Trail Mine, and we await the additional reporting and analysis.

Unico, Inc. Announces Purchase of Additional Transformers for Electrical Substation at the Deer Trail Mine Thursday , March 29, 2007 11:25ET SAN DIEGO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 03/29/07 -- Unico, Incorporated (OTCBB: UCOI), a natural resource company in the precious metals mining sector, today announced that the company has purchased two additional transformers as part of the new system that will supply electrical power to the mill and processing facility at the Deer Trail Mine in Marysvale, Utah. The two additional transformers will reduce the voltage from the main transformer to power the equipment in the mill facilities and provide electricity for lighting, the on-site laboratory facility and the offices. Both transformers were purchased from West Coast Switch Gear, Inc. (www.westcoastswitchgear.com), a manufacturer and distributor of all levels of power distribution based in Cerritos, California. The primary voltage of the main transformer is 46,000 volts and will be provided to the Deer Trail Mine from PacifiCorp, which operates in Utah as Rocky Mountain Power. The secondary voltage of 12,470/7,200 will be sent to the mill by direct burial cable. The larger of the two transformers purchased from West Coast Switch Gear will reduce the 12,470 voltage to the 480 volts required to operate the mill. The other transformer will reduce the remaining power to 208 volts to power the lighting, the on-site laboratory facility and offices located at the Deer Trail Mine site. The availability of additional voltage allows for future expansion at the site, including extra power to operate mining activities as needed. The two additional transformers will be installed close to the mill facility, where ground is currently being leveled for a concrete foundation. The site is expected to be ready in approximately two weeks and delivery of the two transformers is expected shortly thereafter. "We are pleased to have acquired these two critical pieces of equipment, each of which will perform a very important function related to the flow of electrical power for the operation of the mill and production facility at the Deer Trail Mine," commented Mark A. Lopez, chief executive officer of Unico, Inc. "With the purchase of the main transformer and its expected near term delivery, followed by the purchase of these two additional transformers, we are looking forward to having the power requirements for the mill in place very soon." The two additional generators were identified by BNA Consulting, Inc. (www.bnaconsulting.com), a major provider of electrical consulting services in Utah and surrounding states for 35 years. BNA has contracted with Deer Trail Mining Company, for a broad range of engineering services related to the construction of the substation. Thursday , April 19, 2007 08:55ET
SAN DIEGO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/19/07 -- Unico, Incorporated (OTCBB: UCOI), a natural resource company in the precious metals mining sector, today announced the addition of a new photo gallery on the company's website, www.unicomining.com, which shows recent progress of reconstruction work at the mill and processing facility at the Deer Trail Mine in Marysvale, Utah. The gallery can be found by visiting the "Multimedia" section of the Unico website at www.unicomining.com./news/othermedia.php.
Included in the new gallery are photographs of the delivery of recently purchased electrical panels and the Genie articulating man-lift with a 60-foot reach that will be used in the construction of the fine ore bin upper deck and other high structures at the site. Four electrical control panels and one switching center with a stop/start motor control center (MCC) were delivered. The pre-assembled two-sided control panels are expected to expedite installation and reduce time and labor requirements. Now that the panels have arrived on site, they will be wired and connected to supply power to pumps and other key equipment in the mill and processing facility.
The filter bags used for the Eimco filter in the new mill building are also shown in the gallery. The filter bags were ordered from National Filter Media of Salt Lake City, Utah, and there are several pictures showing the filter bags installed on the filter sectors. With installation of the filter bags on the filter sectors now completed, the filter sectors are expected to be installed on the Eimco filter within the next week.
The new photo gallery also shows the installed cross braces that support the upper mezzanine floor plate and the floor plating that was recently installed. There are several pictures of the installed steel supports for the upper concrete floor above the conveyor pump slot.
In preparation for the delivery of new screens for the screening plant that were ordered from Kimball Equipment (http://www.kimballequipment.com/) of Salt Lake City, a significant amount of time and effort has been spent servicing the Cat Loader and hard-facing the Loader bucket and the Case Excavator bucket. The photo gallery shows the hard facing that has been completed.
"This is one of the largest photo galleries, in terms of the number of pictures, that we have added to our website since we launched the Multimedia section of the site," said Mark A. Lopez, chief executive officer of Unico, Inc. "Unico management considers the photo galleries an important communications tool for the company, and this gallery again shows that there is a significant amount of work being done in a variety of areas at the Deer Trail Mine property. We anticipate additional pictures of further reconstruction progress in the coming weeks as the Deer Trail Mining Company moves closer to completion of the facility and the start-up of processing operations."
