Title: SFE
Post by: cmshop on June 15, 2005, 05:21:14 PM
SFE is trading at 1.20 (14% up) in AH now. Tomorrow should be big run up. It is reported that several insiders bought it yesterday. Any idea? (A good play? how to play with it?  )

Looks like today's print of 1.71 above the 1.70 G-Spot is a buy, but eliteG is the expert on that.  I don't know if the volume during Stage 1 was enough to qualify.

I don't like the dip back below the 1.58-1.59 top of the Ascending Triangle after the breakout, but it's back above it, so that looks okay, too.

SFE currently is BID...1.67...ASK...1.68.

Just got filled at 1.59, the top of the Ascending Triangle.  Stop is a close or obvious late day tank below the last low of 1.47.  Risk: loss of about 8%.    If SFE closes below the Ascending Triangle breakout again, AND closes below the last low, that's all the risk I want.

SFE currently is BID: 1.59...ASK: 1.60

Catrader,

My purchase at 1.59 was predicated on SFE being able to establish support at the re-test of the Ascending Triangle, or at least being able to hold above the prior low of 1.47.

The re-test didn't hold, and 1.47 has been violated intraday, so this isn't looking good.  MACD also ticked below its signal line yesterday.  Support "could be" at the up trendline on the chart above (now about 1.30) or at the 50DMA (now about 1.36), but I'm not going to sit here guessing where support is while I'm losing money.   ???

I don't like the way SFE is acting, but I'll stick with my plan, which is to limit my loss to about 8%.  I'll hold unless it closes below 1.47 (or obvious late day tank).

SFE currently is BID 1.48...ASK 1.49

Sold it because I don't like the way it's been acting, Catrader.  It didn't hold the top of the Ascending Triangle where I bought it two weeks ago.  The prior low of 1.47 got violated intraday.  And, today, if finally gets back above the 1.58-1.59 area (top of the Ascending Triangle on chart above), but not much buying interest.

For me, it's a case of "Knowing what you know now, two weeks after you bought it for 1.59, would you buy it now, if you didn't own it?"  No.  It still could do fine, but it doesn't interest me.
I didn't sell it because of anything particularly negative (like CRYP, dang it!)  I've held it at a loss for two weeks, and decided to get out whole.  Good luck if you decide to hold it.

A BUY rating was issued by CJR Securities today...up 12.32% on the day...volume up about 4x normal. Broke confidently through the 200-day MA today...cruising higher !

SFE was so beaten down, that the "sell" rating was like kicking a dead horse to try and kill it  ;D thus it had minor impact. I have also heard that an influential newsletter is steering its readers into SFE under the pitch that it's like buying into young, developing hi-tech and bio-tech companies long before they go IPO. That is an interesting way to look at things, and certainly holds some truth to it.

Legg Mason Shares Plummet on High Volume After Profit Warning

NEW YORK (AP) -- The following companies were showing unusually heavy volume in trading Wednesday on the NYSE around 2 p.m. Higher-than-normal volume can indicate increased activity by institutions such as mutual funds and insurance companies. Upward stock movement on such volume can show increased confidence among investors, while selling can signal further downward pressure on a stock.

Legg Mason Inc. shares surged to trade on almost 8 times its usual volume to about 11.7 million shares, after the asset manager warned its third-quarter earnings will widely miss analyst expectations.

Shares fell $17.80, or 17 percent, to 87.51.

Shares of Cabela's Inc. traded 1.1 million times, from a daily average of 218,400, after well-known stock picker Jim Cramer recommended shares of the hunting and fishing equipment retailer Tuesday on his CNBC program, "Mad Money."

Shares rose $1.15, or 4.9 percent, to $24.60.

Safeguard Scientifics Inc. shares changed hands more than 1 million times, compared to a daily average of 290,200, after CJS Securities initiated coverage at "Buy." Safeguard invests in life sciences and information technology ventures.

Shares added 23 cents, or 11 percent, to $2.34.

Shares of Jacuzzi Brands Inc. swelled to trade more than 10.4 million times, compared with an average daily volume of about 350,700, after the whirlpool bath maker agreed to be bought out for $990 million.

Private equity firm Apollo Management LP also agreed to take over $260 million in debt, for a total deal value of $1.25 billion, or $12.50 per share.

Shares rose $1.67, or 16 percent, to $12.02.

E-Trade Financial Corp. shares traded with unusually high volume, with 19.6 million shares changing hands after Bank of America Corp. said it will offer 30 free online trades a month to certain clients. The news caused shares of online brokerages such as E-Trade, which make money off trading fees, to decline.

E-Trade shares fell $2.13, or 8.7 percent, to $22.33.

Clarient Reports 2006 Third Quarter Results
Wednesday October 25, 4:00 pm ET
Third Quarter Revenue Increases 86 Percent Compared to Prior Year

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Oct. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Clarient, Inc. (Nasdaq: CLRT - News), a premier technology and services resource for pathologists, oncologists and the pharmaceutical industry, today announced financial results for its third quarter 2006. Total net revenue was $9.1 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2006, an increase of 86 percent compared to $4.9 million for the prior year's third quarter net revenue. This represents the fourth sequential quarter of double-digit revenue growth for the Company.

Commenting on the third quarter results, Clarient's President and CEO Ron Andrews said, "Our third quarter results reflect the continued strong momentum of our new business strategy. We are consistently focused on improving our top line growth, with this quarter's revenue growth of 86 percent compared to the third quarter of 2005 being the best in the Company's recent history. This momentum has been fueled by our Services business which has posted double-digit sequential increases in each quarter since we launched the business in the second quarter of 2004."

Net loss attributable to common stock for the third quarter of 2006 of $4.0 million translated to a net loss per share of $0.06 compared to a net loss of $0.08 per share for the same period of the prior year. Net loss for the current quarter includes share-based payment expense of $0.3 million or less than $0.01 per share, due to the implementation of SFAS 123® which was not reflected in the results of the prior year.

    Financial Highlights
    * Services group revenue, net of contractual discounts, was $7.9 million
in the third quarter of 2006, compared to $3.0 million of net revenue in
the same period last year, an increase of 162 percent.  Sequentially
this represents a 25 percent increase over second quarter 2006.

    * Technology group revenue was $1.2 million for the third quarter of 2006.
This represents a 37 percent decrease compared to the same period last
year, and an increase of 5 percent compared to the $1.1 million reported
in the second quarter of 2006.  During the quarter, the Company
completed the initial software package and the first shipment of
ACIS III units.  The Company expects ACIS III to fully launch in the
fourth quarter of this year.  ACIS III will be the latest product
offering in the Company's product line of Automated Cellular Imaging
System (ACIS®), and its features include increased imaging resolution
with a new digital camera, faster scanning speeds, and a user interface
designed to make laboratory workflow more effective.  During the
quarter, the Company also completed the acquisition of substantially all
of the assets of Trestle Holdings, Inc., which adds an additional
product line and complements the Company's current proprietary ACIS®.

    * Overall gross profit in the third quarter of 2006 was $4.2 million,
compared to $2.0 million in the same period last year.  Gross margin in
the quarter was 46 percent, compared to 41 percent in the third quarter
of 2005.  The improvement in gross margin was even more substantial for
the Services business, rising from 23 percent in the third quarter of
2005 to 45 percent in the third quarter of 2006.  The Company's overall
improvement in gross margin was achieved in spite of a decrease in gross
margin in the Technology business to 53 percent for the quarter from
70 percent for the same period of the prior year due to the continued
      transition to third party distribution.

    * Operating expenses were $7.8 million in the third quarter of 2006, an
increase of 25 percent compared to $6.2 million in the third quarter of
2005.  On a sequential basis, operating expenses for the third quarter
increased by 2 percent.  The increase in operating expenses from 2005
was principally due to incremental share-based payment expense from the
implementation of SFAS 123®, the increase in facility expenses due to
the transition to the new facility in Aliso Viejo, CA, and development
costs related to ACIS III.  Despite these increases, operating expenses
as a percentage of net revenue declined in the quarter.

At September 30, 2006, the Company's cash equivalents and restricted cash were approximately $2.6 million, compared to $2.3 million at the end of the second quarter ending June 30, 2006. Cash increased from the equity financing received from Safeguard Scientifics in connection with the acquisition of Trestle Holdings, Inc. and borrowings on our revolving line of credit and under the new $5 million accounts receivable line the Company secured in the quarter. Cash was reduced from the loss from operations, the acquisition of Trestle Holdings, Inc., capital expenditures, and debt repayments. The Company once again achieved record cash collections from its Services group for the quarter through streamlining its processes and the overall growth in the business.

Commenting further, Andrews said, "The continued sales growth from our Services business indicates that Clarient is executing on its strategy to provide unparalleled service to our customers. The third quarter shipment of the ACIS III training systems represents the first component of the market launch of this exciting product and is a testimony to our ability to develop innovative technologies in the growing cellular imaging business. While ACIS III development expenses continued to impact overall expenses in the third quarter, our operating expenses as a percentage of sales are coming down as we absorb our growth within our current infrastructure. The completion of the accounts receivable credit facility provides additional short-term working capital we need to fund our growth, and the acquisition of the assets of Trestle gives us important new additions to our already strong portfolio of cellular imaging technology. With our transition to our new laboratory facility and corporate headquarters behind us, and ACIS III development costs close to completion, we expect to experience continued revenue growth and focus on the bottom line to begin to reduce our operating losses."

Clarient will discuss third quarter 2006 results on a conference call and live webcast at 5:00 PM EDT today. Call information is available at http://www.clarientinc.com/investor.
