I like their purchase of Copernic and if they work it right they could get back to their highs.
I tried the Copernic desktop search and it is better then google for desktop.. if they can incorporate into their Internet search they can probably find some business

This one doesn't make a whole lot of sense to us, but just passing it along since it moved the stock earlier (MAMA now up 45%).
I believe MEM is a benefactor of mama. I would watch that one too, to see if it reacts. Just a tip. I used to own mem and I know they have interest. Now at 1.02.
GOAM also flying - great day trade

Mamma.com (formerly Intasys) has all the questions and all the answers for its Internet customers. In 2004, the company sold its Intasys Billing Technologies subsidiary -- which offered billing and customer care systems for utility, e-commerce, and telecom firms -- to focus exclusively on its Internet media operations. Mamma.com provides Internet surfers with a search engine to navigate the Web, and it offers online direct marketing services and technologies. After a stint as a technology incubator, Mamma.com restyled itself through investments in small, Canadian wireless communications and e-commerce companies.
Mamma's revenue increased from 04's revenue along with its total net income. They have increased their cash position to almost about $24 million with a book value of $2.18 and total cash per share at 1.996.

Bouncing off DOUBLE BOTTOM ;)
Terliso, you still need to tell me how do you get those historical charts from www.stockscharts.com without being a premium service subscriber. I don't need it, since I have Metastock, but I'm sure many people here would like to know how you do it ...
I'm thinking of making an "in-depth" analysis on MAMA.
Yes, I tried to post it last night @ INTC thread but the 3SOF site went down :(
Ok...I'll post it later how to do it i'll just have to go to the GYM for a while ;)
1. Introduction
MAMA came up on my automatic technical filter as a short term bullish stock. Since there was some interest on the 3 Stocks on Fire community on the stock I thought I should make some technical and fundamental tests on it. I'm getting back in shape to manage the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio.. If you want to receive our free newsletter with updates to this analysis and other unbiased analysis on stocks, please register (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=register).
2. Profile
Mamma.com, Inc. (MAMA) provides search technologies for Web and desktop space through its Web sites, mamma.com and copernic.com. Its mamma.com, a metasearch engine for the Internet, enables in finding and gathering relevant required information. The company also provides online marketing solutions to advertisers, providing keyword and graphic ad placement through its Mamma Media Solutions brand. Mamma.com, through its Copernic Desktop Search product, develops search solutions that enable the searching of files, emails, and email attachments stored on a PC hard drive. It operates principally in the United States, Europe, and Canada. The company was incorporated as Quartet Management, Ltd. in 1985 and changed its name to Health Care Products, Inc. in 1987. Later, it changed its name to Celltech Media, Inc. in 1994; to Smartel Communications Corporation in 1995; to Intasys Corporation in 1996; and then to Mamma.com, Inc. in 2004. Mamma.com is based in Montreal, Canada.
3. Technical Analysis
3.1. All History Chart
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=27657;image)
This isn't a good looking long term chart for MAMA. Don't you think MAMA was ever at $350, and more important, don't think the company was worth $350/$2.28 = 153 times more in 1993 than now. That reasoning is incorrect, because most probably MAMA's capital was divided in less shares back then than it is now. We'll get to that in a moment.
3.2. Medium Term Chart
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=27658;image)
When a stock is down a lot you need to use semi-log scale on your charts. This medium term MAMA chart shows the stock is still in a downtrend. The descending trendline is coming around $3. Note as the 200 day SMA (blue line) still has a negative slope.
3.3. Short Term Chart
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=27659;image)
The short term chart looks a lot more compelling, with an ascending triangle formation. The stock needs to close above $2.31 to make a clear technical buy signal.
4. Fundamental Analysis
4.1. Number of Shares Outstanding
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=27660;image)
Every single year folks, every single year MAMA increased the number of shares outstanding. Going back to what we were discussing in the beginning of this article, in December 1994 MAMA share price was $30 and the number of shares outstanding was 96,000, so the market cap was $2.88 M. Now the stock closed at $2.28, it has 14,340,000 shares, so the market cap is $32.69 M. So, the share price is 92% lower, yet the company's value is 1000% higher.
This is what dilution makes to investors. Do you think MAMA will stop diluting shareholder value in the short term? If it doesn't, the stock will go down even with improving fundamentals.
By the way, let's make some more fundamental tests.
4.2. Liquidity
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=27661;image)
I don't know how they got all that cash in 2004, but they're burning it at a fast clip. When they run out of cash, guess what they will do? Sell shares to get some more cash to get going with this money losing company for some more time.
Anyway, I would be glad to know what happened in 2004 for them to have $27.5 M as cash and cash equivalents in the balance sheet. Anyone knows? Thanks.
4.3. Revenues
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=27662;image)
Revenues are shrinking over the last two years. The expectation for full year 2006 is $8.4 M, so MAMA's revenue multiple is $32.69 M/$8.4 M = 3.89. The industry average is 1.44, so MAMA looks expensive using exclusively this criteria.
4.4. Profits
(http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=27663;image)
In 12 years of history as a public company, MAMA had 11 losing years and just one small profit in 2004. It will lose almost $6 M this year. If there was no stock market, MAMA would be out of business long ago. With the $8.4 M in revenues they'll probably have in 2006, they would need to profit $2.18 M (this is a 26% net profit margin) to justify the current valuation. Instead MAMA will probably lose about $6 M.
5. General Overview
There's an informative article on Motley Fool about MAMA, which you can read here: Fool's on MAMA (http://www.fool.com/News/mft/2006/mft06101004.htm?logvisit=y?logvisit=y&source=estmarhln001999&npu=y). The article explains why the company had so much money in 2004 and why it is running out now.
The latest frenzy around MAMA comes from this: "Mamma's Copernic desktop search feature was incorporated into Time Warner's new OpenRide software platform for AOL."
I don't think this will change the company's future or financials. More, I bet MAMA's management is using the current rally to do what it always does when it has a chance, dilute shareholder value by selling shares in the open market.
I don't rule out a rally to $3 on crazy speculative buying, but the risk on a play like this is very high, the stock can fall 50% or more from current levels in a month or two (actually, it was 50% below just a month ago).
6. Trading Plan
My trading plan on MAMA is to stay out of it.
I'll be analysing stocks all month long in November, as I prepare to start co-managing the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio. If you want to keep up and receive analysis on your mail box, please register (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=register).

Sorry David but my plan for this stock is to get some shares on monday (if no gap up) simply because I got attracted in the short-term technical side.
--- the last time MAMA traded above 50sma weekly scale was back in 2003 & I believe the safer entry is now.
I respect & missed your analysis that was great fundamental analysis David ;)
HAHAHAHA terliso you sly devil you >:D Much applauds for this insider info ;)
I don't necessarily need it that much because i use metastock but its great cause now i can look at other things like longer history of commodities and indices's since i don't have that kind of data in my metastock package.
Gratitude From Mr. Fous ;)
Wow, amazing information Terliso, thanks a million ! I agree with fous, always wanted to see long term charts of commodities, sector indices and treasury bonds, to name a few. Let me applaud you again :D

Did you buy it Terliso? It's finding it hard to stay above $2.31, momentum is faltering ... support at $2.01 on the downside, if that breaks I would run like hell. Good luck :)

I Bought MAMA now, breaking out from Ascending Triangle ;)
Congrats Terliso, your magic lines are doing it again. ;) >:D
I still don't like MAMA because of the poor fundamentals, but since you're in it I sure would like to see it run to $3. As a bull you want a close above $2.31.
15 minutes to go let's see if MAMA will close above $2.31

Jesus, what an incredible rally MAMA had today. It was because they announced they made a video search engine, which is cool :) It completely changed the company's perspectives (at least it made those speculative heads dream high). But the balance sheet is still very weak and revenues almost non-existing. Anyway, if studying the balance sheet and the income statement was all there is to know about stock speculation this would be a very boring world, I'm happy it isn't !

You're right, from now on the T3ML strategy should be know as «Terliso's Magic Setup», and we should send a message to Mr. Bulkowski to update his «Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns» to include this pattern ;) (I'm sure he would do it if we gather some backtest tracking study)

Just bought in MAMA mia at 4.45. Not the greatest price but if you think it's just going to keep going up, it doesn't matter what price you get in at. ;D
Could this just be the very start of the MAMA mia run??? I hope so. Terliso's 3 Magic Line is in play...........woot woot!
We had a small pullback yesterday. I don't think the momentum is quite gone yet. As you can see from the 5day chart, it but went back to test the support line and bounced up. Good so far.
MAMA mia looking good!! Momentum is not over yet. Testing the resistance level and I'm hoping it will pass it. This will confirm that the T3ML is still alive and well. Good luck all.
Aw man.............I got stomped out at 4.75 (just below previous breakout resistance). Made a profit nonetheless. Trying to buy back at 4.35.
I got back in this one on late friday.
Nice ascending triangle formation. Watch for a breakout above 5.25 or so. If it can break that, this will look very good after that and T3ML lives on. I'll put a stop below the support line. Good luck all.
Ohhh my MAMA, why did i leave you...... :( :(

Wow...MAMA just ran 20% plus in 20 minutes from about 6.20 to 7.90.
I cannot understand this. Currently at 7.40.
Got Orphan Drug designation for its smallpox drug. 7 years of

My sentiments exactly!! MAMA mia!!!
Lesson #1: A stock that has run a lot can still run some more.
I need to start learning this rule because MAMA came up on my scan Monday night and I considered buying it but didn't because I thought it had already run too much :-[ Boy was I wrong. Anyone have any idea what it'll do from here? Up AH too.
MAMA is just crazy!!!
I bought it last week at $3, the day it broke out, and oh... if I had just only held on!!! Have been in and out of it several times since, always making solid gains, but if I had just held on tight I would be up 150% on my original investment of siginifcantly more shares!! Still up 67% on my original purchase, while working to protect profits, so not to unhappy.
Anyway, I can't figure this out, MAMA has traded double its float basically every day since this breakout, it really doesn't make sense how much longer this can continue, I was sure when it failed at the 6.50 level today that it would be done for, but no!!
I guess the rule to remeber is: the trend is your friend. MAMA has shown a clear ascending trend throughout this move, at which it has found support (and provided good buy ops) several times. Seems simple, but when you have an established trendline, hold it till it breaks!!! However now we get into silly country as MAMA went balistic in the last half hour or so. It could keep ripping tomorrow or pull back some. I would watch for that trendline support to come into play at some point, unless another pattern emerges.
Is it safe to say yet MAMA is out of control? No way can it maintain current levels of $8+. If I were long right now, I'd be running as far away as I could.
Tried to short at $8.50; no hope >:(
This is it for MAMA, BIGGER volume & a Doji...that's the top IMHO ;)
Mamma.com Stock Up, Analyst Urges Care
Thursday December 21, 5:30 pm ET
Mamma.com Shares Continue to Rise, Analyst Urges Investors to 'Tread Carefully'
NEW YORK (AP) -- Mamma.com Inc. shares rose again Thursday as investor enthusiasm for the search engine's new video feature showed little signs of waning, but an analyst called for caution on Wall Street.
The Montreal-based company's stock price has more than tripled in the nine days since the video search function was announced. The stock -- which traded at 86 cents in late summer -- hit a 52-week high of $8.60 on Thursday.
"We urge investors to tread carefully as the stock appears to have detached from fundamentals," wrote Merriman Curhan Ford analyst Richard Fetyko in a research note.
Fetyko pointed out that with the stock price so high, the total value of Mamma.com compared to its annual sales -- a commonly used valuation measure -- is approaching that of U.S. search industry leader Google Inc.
"While the video search functionality is an attractive feature and could help increase consumer traffic to the Web site, we do not expect that to have a material impact on revenues."
The analyst wrote that he expects Mamma.com's fiscal 2006 revenue to fall 16 percent to $8 million year-over-year, and remain flat in fiscal 2007.
Shares of Mamma.com rose 64 cents to $7.95 on the Nasdaq
I am out and clear of MAMA for now, made my final trade yesterday and will see how it reacts to the trendline I posted previously. Personally I get the feeling MAMA is headed for a big crash, but we shall see.
EDIT: Here's the intraday with the trendline. The original trendline is in dark blue, a secondary steeper trendline in light blue. Looks like MAMA will be flirting with it at the open....
MAMA hit and reacted to the ascending trendline. Was forming a falling wedge on the 5min chart that it has broken out of. Now I'm not saying its a buy - yesterdays island top looks awfully menacing, but it may show some positive action from here. Too dangerous for me to play right now, but a stop right below this trendline would give decent protection.
company has no earning........ better be careful. sell when earning comes out.

Gapping up heavy, currently trading at about $5.90. Major resistance at 6.00, support around 5.50. Although it is unclear whether we may see a gap to crap on this one, I reckon if it powers through 6.00 early, it could be in for a major run as day traders jump all over it. Already well ofver a million shares traded, so it looks like it will be one of the stocks of the day.
Hi Scottishtrader,
This is definitely under my radar (Daytraders).
It has to show strength above 6.00 or wait for it to tank and buy close to support.

Hi there!
what do you think about MAMA?I think it looks good.
thanks
yes it does, but please, before starting a new thread, do a search (just put MAMA into the search bar at the top) and you will find the MAMA thread that details ongoing discussions about the stock.
Thanks!
Ol' MAMA is up to her tricks again. Big volume breakout, this time on speculation that they will be acquired by Google. Apparently this was reported on CNBC this morning, and by the looks of it the speculation may actually have some validity, or at the very least lets hope enough for a multi-day run. I really hope that MAMA doesn't just slide back down once again, as I'm getting a bit tired of that old ploy. got in at 5.50 - really not a great entry, but I know I need to work on these breakout entries, as I always seem to jump in right before it tops out!!
Looking for a move above $6 tomorrow - if we get it, it would certainly bode well (provided we don't gap up there first thing - UGH!!)

thanks
unfortunately not. We got an uglly candle and I got stopped out this morning. I think MAMA is really too much of a 1 day mom stock to paly any more. The ir no trend, just single big volume days that immediately sell of, and I don't think it is worthwhile holding on and just waiting for the next one.
Unless MAMA can actually develop a trend, I'm staying well clear from now on.
