Welcome to our board LuxAA,

Nice pick to a debut post ;)

SONS has a pretty looking chart, and I agree with your target an trading plan.

About the inverted H&S, I'm not quite sure you have a regular pattern there.

Title: SONS play on VOIP tech sector
Post by: SmartWrasse on September 27, 2005, 04:24:04 PM
I am long SONS from the low 4's.  It has been volatile.  I don't know how I would have traded it this year so I just hung on.  There has been some recent support I think because of a rumor of BLS as a customer.  Hopefully, voice over internet will be a big deal and this company should profit well from that.  How long it will take I have no idea, and I am not a techie in this area (I'm a biotechie)

I'm also in from the low fours and bought again when it broke 5.

In my opinion ist is a bit of a buy on the rumour sell on the news. Earnings will be there in a short time and they will be good but the real news should be a big big big contract but if they get that contract......I dont know.

Well October really sucked for the SONS longs.

The stock appears to be moving up from a bottom yet again.  Earnings are reported next week, and there is good news with a contract win Deutsche Telekom

http://biz.yahoo.com/bizj/051102/1185653.html?.v=1

The company is big in Asia (esp Japan) as far as VOIP sales, and now moving in Europe.

Good luck to us Nightbreed.  The way this thing moves around we may need luck.

Sonus Networks Continues to Lead the Japanese VoIP Market
Tuesday December 20, 8:30 am ET
Sonus Growth in Japan Continues Dramatic Increase

CHELMSFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 20, 2005--Sonus Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONS - News), a leading supplier of service provider voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure solutions, announced today that market research firms Synergy Research Group and Infonetics Research have reported that Sonus is leading Japan's migration to VoIP with key customer deployments throughout the telecommunications, cable, Internet Service Provider (ISP), and wireless industries.

"Sonus' leadership position in the rapidly growing Japanese market is a testament to the Company's vision, our ability to execute, and our commitment to this important region of the world," said Hassan Ahmed, chairman and CEO, Sonus Networks. "Asia-Pacific has been one of the first regions to embrace the benefits of VoIP and harness the power of these technologies to deliver innovative services to consumers, and Japan in particular has accelerated its migration to an all-IP infrastructure. As a company, we are dedicated to ensuring our customers' success as they extend their service capabilities in Japan and throughout Asia-Pacific."

A recent report entitled "Q3 2005 Service Provider VoIP Japan Market Shares," issued by Synergy Research Group, reveals that based on revenue Sonus is the clear leader in the carrier VoIP market in Japan with total media gateway market share of 61.1% and dominates the high density media gateway industry with 81.1% of the total market.

"Sonus' performance in Japan is truly impressive," said Jeremy Duke, president and CEO, Synergy Research Group. "Sonus' first mover advantage, sophisticated field-tested technology, strategic partnerships, and the expertise of its professional services team have earned Sonus a highly respected position in the Japanese market and this is reflected in their substantial market share position."

Infonetics Research also released its third quarter market share analysis, which shows Sonus substantially increasing its market share in the total Asia-Pacific region due to its success in Japan. Infonetics named Sonus as the market share leader in both the total carrier-class media gateway and high density gateway revenue.

"Sonus has an enviable position of being firmly entrenched in Japan's VoIP industry, particularly in the Voice over Broadband (VoBB) market," said Teresa Mastrangelo, analyst broadbandtrends.com. "With nearly 10 million subscribers, Japan continues to lead the world in VoBB subscribers, and shows no sign of slowing down. Over the past 12 months, Japan's VoBB subscribers have grown 39 percent. Sonus' success in this region is a significant indicator of the Company's ability to deliver reliable solutions capable of scaling to meet the demand of one of the world's fastest growing markets."

I like the potential of SONS in the Japanese market, esp when Japan is very bullish right now.

I [email protected] on 12/23, stock is coming off bottom, not much risk here I believe.

I have been in it before.  broke even.  Management has been a problem.  They will not give guidance.

Great positive comments in the earnings call in the summer, and then almost nothing on the most recent earnings call.  May be losing sales to LU and others, but I think they will make money and grow.  Too small a company for total solution that an LU could offer, but they apparently have the best VOIP switches.

Title: Technicals vs Fundamentals on SONS
Post by: David Randolph on December 27, 2005, 12:08:18 PM
1. Profile

Sonus Networks, Inc. (SONS) is a leading provider of voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure solutions for wireline and wireless service providers. With its comprehensive IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) solution, Sonus addresses the full range of carrier applications, including residential and business voice services, wireless voice and multimedia, trunking and tandem switching, carrier interconnection and enhanced services. Sonus' voice infrastructure solutions are deployed in service provider networks worldwide. Founded in 1997, Sonus is headquartered in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. 2. Technical Analysis

2.1. Long Term Chart

The long term chart shows one of those «fallen angels» of the tech bubble. I wonder if the number of shares outstanding in SONS has remained stable since 2000, probably not.

2.2. Medium Term Chart

The medium term chart shows a lower highs pattern, which is bearish. Significant support for the stock may come in at prices around $3.20 - $3.30.

2.3. Short Term Chart

The short term chart shows SONS is in a declining trend. The descending trend line is standing at $3.88. There is a big gap opened at $4.55 - $4.88.

Exclusively from a technical standpoint an investment or trade in SONS should be avoided since the stock is on a downtrend.

3. Fundamental Analysis

3.1. Outstanding Shares

Solely based on this information I wouldn't consider an investment in SONS shares. The share count has grown in every year of SONS's existence and that means fundamentals can improve and yet the stock price goes down anyway. Market cap rises even though the share price may decline.

At this moment the market cap is about $950M at this point, quite rich.

3.2. Current Ratio

The Current Ratio shows the company has enough working capital to fund operations for the foreseeable future, since this ratio is above the minimum 2 threshold.

3.3. Revenues

Despite of all the news buzz, revenues are expected to decline in 2005 in comparison with 2004. The P/S Ratio is 7.66 compared with the industry's P/S Ratio of 2.27.

3.4. EPS

A big part of the «EPS recovery» can be more attributable to the increase in the share count than to actual performance from the company. EPS is expected to decline from last year's $0.10 to $0.02 this year.

For SONS to have an industry average P/E of 26, the company would need to have net earnings of about $36.53M, that is $0.144 in EPS, if the share count remains the same. With 2005 estimated EPS of $0.02 SONS has a P/E of 185  :o

4. General Overview

Technicals and fundamentals on SONS are bearish, despite of the recent news and press releases from the company:

Press Releases about Sonus Networks Inc (http://www.marketwatch.com/tools/quotes/news.asp?siteid=mktw&sid=177600&property=sid&value=177600&symb=sons&doctype=2007)

I will avoid the stock until something material is changing or about to change. A good fundamental development would be if the company stops selling shares in the open market, or even buying back some of the shares issued and outstanding.

Small Cap Profile: Sonus Networks (SONS)

[BRIEFING.COM -- Robert J. Reid] Sonus Networks is a name that looks interesting given its solid growth, profitability and strong market position in the VoIP infrastructure market, especially at the high end of the market. The co has announced a number of deals recently, including Cingular and Ulticom. With the stock approaching a new 52-wk high, it looks like an interesting name on today's pullback. (more)

Cup with Handle (continuation) pattern....... :P
The Cup with Handle is a bullish continuation pattern that marks a consolidation period followed by a breakout. It was developed by William O'Neil and introduced in his 1988 book, How to Make Money in Stocks.

As its name implies, there are two parts to the pattern: the cup and the handle. The cup forms after an advance and looks like a bowl or rounding bottom. As the cup is completed, a trading range develops on the right hand side and the handle is formed. A subsequent breakout from the handle's trading range signals a continuation of the prior advance.

As with most chart patterns, it is more important to capture the essence of the pattern than the particulars. The cup is a bowl-shaped consolidation and the handle is a short pullback followed by a breakout with expanding volume. A cup retracement of 62% may not fit the pattern requirements, but a particular stock's pattern may still capture the essence of the Cup with Handle.

More on the Cup with Handle here....

Sonus Networks "buy"

Tuesday, September 19, 2006 8:07:03 AM ET
Brean Murray, Carret & Co

NEW YORK, September 19 (newratings.com) - Analyst Eric C Buck of Brean Murray maintains his "buy" rating on Sonus Networks Inc (NU4.FSE). The target price is set to $6.50.

In a research note published this morning, the analyst mentions that the company's recent agreement with EMBARQ is expected to help Sonus Networks to capitalise on smaller opportunities and to lead to the dissolution of some international partnerships. Sonus Networks' efforts with Motorola appear to be ramping well and direct initiatives with other large domestic carriers might generate better results, the analyst says. The management appears confident regarding the company's visibility and its underlying business, Brean Murray adds.

Or.... :D

On this 2 year chart,
Ascending Triangle (continuation) pattern.....
The ascending triangle is a bullish formation that usually forms during an uptrend as a continuation pattern. There are instances when ascending triangles form as reversal patterns at the end of a downtrend, but they are typically continuation patterns. Regardless of where they form, ascending triangles are bullish patterns that indicate accumulation.

Because of its shape, the pattern can also be referred to as a right-angle triangle. Two or more equal highs form a horizontal line at the top. Two or more rising troughs form an ascending trend line that converges on the horizontal line as it rises. If both lines were extended right, the ascending trend line could act as the hypotenuse of a right triangle. If a perpendicular line were drawn extending down from the left end of the horizontal line, a right triangle would form.

In contrast to the symmetrical triangle, an ascending triangle has a definitive bullish bias before the actual breakout. If you will recall, the symmetrical triangle is a neutral formation that relies on the impending breakout to dictate the direction of the next move. On the ascending triangle, the horizontal line represents overhead supply that prevents the security from moving past a certain level. It is as if a large sell order has been placed at this level and it is taking a number of weeks or months to execute, thus preventing the price from rising further. Even though the price cannot rise past this level, the reaction lows continue to rise. It is these higher lows that indicate increased buying pressure and give the ascending triangle its bullish bias.

Title: Re: SONS play on VOIP tech sector
Post by: setravis on October 09, 2006, 11:05:20 AM
Or... ;)

On this 3 year chart,
Symmetrical Triangle (continuation) pattern......
The symmetrical triangle, which can also be referred to as a coil, usually forms during a trend as a continuation pattern. The pattern contains at least two lower highs and two higher lows. When these points are connected, the lines converge as they are extended and the symmetrical triangle takes shape. You could also think of it as a contracting wedge, wide at the beginning and narrowing over time.

While there are instances when symmetrical triangles mark important trend reversals, they more often mark a continuation of the current trend. Regardless of the nature of the pattern, continuation or reversal, the direction of the next major move can only be determined after a valid breakout.

Edwards and Magee suggest that roughly 75% of symmetrical triangles are continuation patterns and the rest mark reversals. The reversal patterns can be especially difficult to analyze and often have false breakouts. Even so, we should not anticipate the direction of the breakout, but rather wait for it to happen. Further analysis should be applied to the breakout by looking for gaps, accelerated price movements, and volume for confirmation. Confirmation is especially important for upside breakouts.

Prices sometimes return to the breakout point of apex on a reaction move before resuming in the direction of the breakout. This return can offer a second chance to participate with a better reward to risk ratio. Potential reward price targets found by measurement and parallel trend line extension are only meant to act as rough guidelines. Technical analysis is dynamic and ongoing assessment is required. In the first example above, SUNW may have fulfilled its target (42) in a few months, but the stock gave no sign of slowing down and advanced above 100 in the following months.

Title: SONS analysis
Post by: David Randolph on December 12, 2006, 01:19:45 PM
1. Introduction

I read this thread, and saw my bearish analysis (unfortunately the charts were lost when we changed the server) on SONS back in December 2005. I was wrong, since the stock is up 77% so far in 2006.

My main concern back then was the company's history of diluting shareholders value, since the share count rose every year. Also I was concerned about a very high earnings multiple. I think I missed the big VOIP picture back then.

Let's make a new analysis to have a fresh new opinion on the stock.

2. Profile

Sonus Networks, Inc. (SONS) engages in the development, marketing, and sale of Internet protocol multimedia subsystem-ready voice infrastructure products for the deployment and management of voice and data services over carrier packet networks. (complete profile here (http://finance.yahoo.com/q/pr?s=SONS))

3. Technical Analysis
3.1. All History Chart

SONS rose a lot after the IPO in 2000 and then collapsed like most tech related stocks.

3.2. Medium Term Chart

The stock has been trading in a wide range for the past three years or so. Maybe the current run up will make it rise over the $7.02 resistance level, that would be very significant from a technical point of view.

3.3. Short Term Chart

The short term chart on SONS is clearly bullish. Volume was very high on the way up in November. Let's make some fundamental tests.

4. Fundamental Analysis
4.1. Number of Shares Outstanding

You can see why I was worried about dilution about a year ago. Until that point the share count increased every year.

Actually the "current" count on the graph isn't really current, because the company didn't file forms 10-Q for Q2 and Q3 (because it is voluntarily reviewing its historical stock option grant practices and may restate results).

So, as of April 30, 2006, there were 252,505,040 shares issued and outstanding, and that's the latest share count we have. But I can assume the company isn't diluting shareholders value anymore, because they bought back some shares in Q1 and the company is profitable now.

The current market cap is $1.66 B.

4.2. Liquidity

SONS balance sheet looks healthy, with a current ratio (current assets/current liabilities) of 3.15.

4.3. Revenues

There's strong revenue growth since 2002. The 2006 expected revenue multiple is $1.66 B/$265.35 M = 6.26. The Business Software & Services industry average is 2.18, but we know SONS is growing faster than the industry (78% vs 12%)

4.4. Profits

The company is expected to report 2006 EPS of $0.15 and 2007 EPS of $0.21. The current Price to Earnings Ratio is $6.58/$0.15 = 44.

This looks very high, but EPS growth from 2005 is expected to be 400%, so, perhaps not so expensive after all.

5. General Overview

I'm a believer in VOIP and SONS is the world market leader with a 29% market share, so I find this stock interesting. On the Q3 results press release (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/061106/nem037.html?.v=61) they said the following:

- «Third quarter net income increased meaningfully from the second quarter
      of 2006»

Now, what does "meaningfully" means? Especially when the company didn't report Q2 numbers ???

I need to listen to the 3Q conference call to get more information ... perhaps EPS will be significantly higher in calendar 2006 than analysts are estimating, so the earnings multiple would be much more attractive.

I'll get back to this thread when I gather more information on the stock. If you would like to receive my analysis and stock market thoughts on your mailbox, please register (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?action=register) a Free 3SOF account.

WESTFORD, Mass., Feb 01, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Sonus Networks, Inc. (SONS, Trade), a leading supplier of service provider Voice over IP (VoIP) infrastructure solutions, announced today that the first IMS Forum Plugfest(TM), hosted by the IMS Forum (www.IMSForum.org) and held last week at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Lab in Durham, N.H., demonstrated the strength of Sonus' IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)-ready solutions. Sonus Networks participated in all of the Plugfest's rigorous tests, which validated the interoperability capabilities of Sonus' IMS-ready core trunking solution. Sonus' leadership in IMS is a critical advantage as network operators globally deploy IP-Voice solutions that comply with emerging IMS standards to deliver next-generation services.

"Sonus IMS solution moves the industry beyond the hype to actual deployments that reduce costs and provide a platform for the rollout of advanced services," said Steve Edwards, Chief Marketing Officer, Sonus Networks. "Plugfest is one of the industry's first forums that depicts the real value of IMS. Sonus showcased the value of IMS during this groundbreaking testing session and is very pleased to have demonstrated the breadth and strength of the Sonus IMS solution in an open testing environment."

The IMS Plugfest included tests of multi-vendor 3GPP environments, multi- domain VoIP calls, and integrated SIP Application Servers with multiple IMS cores. The tests accessed the Sonus IMS-ready core trunking solution, which is comprised of Sonus' GSX(TM) Open Services Switch for Media Gateway Control Function/Media Gateway (MGCF/MGW), the SGX(TM) Signaling Gateway, and the PSX(TM) Breakout Gateway Control Function (BGCF). The Sonus HSX Home Subscriber Server (HSS) and the SRX Call Session Control Function (S-CSCF) forming the IMS SIP core were used in all test cases. Sonus was the only vendor to demonstrate complete Public Switch Telecom Network (PSTN) inter- working capabilities and was the only vendor to supply a commercially- available HSS based on open standards.

The Sonus IMS-based solution tested at the Plugfest is the same platform currently available for deployment in customer networks today. The solution provides multiple real-world benefits in the immediate-term, such as its sophisticated traffic management and routing policies, while providing the foundation needed to support the development of future IMS-enabled services and applications.

"The exciting promise of IMS is the ability for network operators to deliver innovative, revenue-generating, next generation services such as presence-enabled and location-based services, video on demand, and fixed- mobile convergence. To get to that point, though, we first must have a core reference architecture that embraces the principles of IMS to create a seamless multi-vendor environment," said Michael Khalilian, IMS Forum President & Chairman and Pervasip Corp. CTO. "The IMS Plugfest was a breakthrough event in terms of putting IMS products to the test and accelerating the adoption of IMS-based solutions industry-wide."

Additional Plugfest events are scheduled for Q2 2007, and will focus on multimedia services in an IMS environment. More information is available at www.IMSForum.org.

Analyst Upgrades Sonus on Growing Demand
Wednesday October 17, 12:03 pm ET
Analyst Upgrades Sonus Shares on Strong Product Demand, Increased Orders, Going Into 4th-Qtr

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Sonus Networks Inc. rose Wednesday after an analyst's upgrade of the stock on strong product demand and growth predictions.
PiperJaffray analyst Troy D. Jensen raised his rating on shares of the company, which makes products for voice over Internet protocol, or VoIP, networks, to "Outperform" or "Buy" from "Market Perform" or "Hold" and his price target to $8 from $6.50.

"We continue to believe Sonus is one of the best positioned companies in the VoIP equipment market and the company's dominant position in high-density media gateways is a clear reflection of its superior technology," Jensen said in a client note.

Demand for Sonus's products has grown this period, and the company continues to place orders with suppliers and manufacturing partners, both of which should fuel fourth-quarter growth, Jensen said.

The company's share of the "broader VoIP Media Gateway market" -- 19.3 percent or $62 million -- means it is the top performer in the market's high-density segment, with 29.2 percent share, Jensen said.

The Westford, Mass.-based company is scheduled to report third-quarter earnings after the market closes on Nov. 8. Analysts expect third-quarter profit of a penny on revenue of $75.8 million.

For the fourth quarter, Jensen said revenue could "easily" surpass $100 million, though a high number of competitors in a relatively narrow sector could hinder progress toward that goal.

Shares of Sonus rose 69 cents, or 11 percent, to $6.95 in Wednesday morning trading.

WESTFORD, Mass., Nov 08, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Sonus Networks, Inc. (SONS, Trade), a leading supplier of service provider IP-voice infrastructure solutions, today reported its financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2007.

Revenues for the third quarter of fiscal 2007 were $76.6 million compared with $75.5 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2007 and $76.0 million for the third quarter of fiscal 2006. The Company reported a net loss on a GAAP basis of $26.8 million, or $0.10 per share, for the third quarter of 2007, compared to a GAAP net loss of $7.0 million, or $0.03 per share, for the second quarter of 2007, and GAAP net income of $14.4 million, or $0.06 per diluted share, for the third quarter of 2006.

Revenues for the first nine months of fiscal 2007 were $223.2 million, compared to $200.5 million in the same period last year. The Company's GAAP net loss for the first nine months of fiscal 2007 was $37.7 million, or $0.14 per share, compared to GAAP net income of $29.1 million, or $0.11 per diluted share, for the first nine months of fiscal 2006.

The Company's results include stock-based compensation and related expenses, other costs related to the stock option investigation and subsequent restatement such as withholding tax adjustments and professional fees, and amortization of intangible assets totaling $11.2 million in the third quarter of 2007, $18.8 million in the second quarter of 2007 and $4.7 million in the third quarter of 2006. These charges totaled $43.8 million in the first nine months of 2007 and $10.1 million in the first nine months of 2006. The Company's 2007 GAAP results also include $40 million of expense related to the November 7, 2007 settlement of litigation.

"Sonus delivered a solid quarter, further strengthening the Company's leadership position in this exciting market," said Hassan Ahmed, chairman, president and CEO, Sonus Networks. "We recorded revenue slightly ahead of our outlook, launched important new technology into the market, strengthened our executive team and, perhaps most importantly, won a significant position in the world's largest all-IP network, BT's 21CN."

"We have demonstrated the ability to deliver IP-voice traffic seamlessly, provide end-to-end IP-based voice communications networks and deploy advanced features and applications, all while supporting many of the world's largest operators. This new way of communicating is going to shape our daily lives and make them more fulfilling, exciting and manageable. The decisions major network operators are making today reflect their commitment to this new communications paradigm, and as these investments are expected to drive ongoing growth in our business," continued Ahmed.

In a press release issued today, Sonus announced that BT Group, one of the world's leading providers of communications solutions and services, has selected Sonus as an official 21CN vendor to supply an Access Gateway Control Function (AGCF) capability to support BT's 21st Century Network programme (21CN). The Sonus solution will enable communications providers to interconnect with BT's 21CN and leverage its next-generation capabilities to provide converged multimedia services to end user customers.

Resolution of 2004 Class Action Lawsuit

On November 7, 2007, the Company reached an agreement to settle litigation against the Company and certain of its former and current officers alleging violations of federal securities laws in connection with the Company's 2004 restatement.

Pursuant to the settlement, which is subject to court approval, the Company has agreed to pay $40 million to the shareholder classes in the case. The Company has recorded a $40 million charge and related liability in the third quarter of fiscal 2007 for the full amount of the settlement.

The Company has approximately $15.3 million in insurance coverage that could be used to help offset the costs of this litigation as well as other litigation pending against the Company and certain of its current and former officers and directors. Due to ongoing discussions with its insurer about the extent of the insurance coverage available for, and current uncertainties about the outcome of, the other pending litigation, the Company has not yet determined how much, if any, of this insurance coverage will be allocated to the 2004 restatement settlement. In the event that the Company ultimately determines that some or all of the $15.3 million of available insurance will be utilized towards this settlement, the Company would record a gain in that subsequent reporting period for the amount of the insurance proceeds allocated to the settlement.

Customer Announcements

Demonstrating the success of Sonus' end-to-end IP access solution, Carphone Warehouse Networks, a subsidiary of the Carphone Warehouse Group, celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Group's free TalkTalk Broadband service built on its Next Generation Network using the Sonus platform. The network currently supports in excess of 600,000 subscribers and is expected to reach nearly one million households as part of Carphone Warehouse Group's initial deployment by the end of its 2007/08 financial year.

Industry Leadership

Sonus' track record for technology innovation and its position as one of the industry's most trusted providers of IP-voice and multimedia services once again earned the Company market share leadership. Independent market researchers reported that Sonus increased its market share in the second quarter of 2007.

-- Infonetics Research, a leading independent research firm, published a
report naming Sonus a leader in key segments of the IP-voice market
worldwide and in North America.  The report also reflected Sonus'
recent focus on growing its position in EMEA, noting that the Company's
market share position increased 50% over the previous quarter.
-- Synergy Research Group, a leading independent industry research firm,
reported Sonus grew its leading market share position to 29.2% of the
high density gateway market.  This achievement was during a time when
several operators delayed capital spending decisions.  Sonus extended
its leadership by capturing a higher percentage of the overall market
and growing revenue 17.8% in the first half of 2007 compared to the
       first half of 2006.
-- iLocus Research reaffirmed Sonus leadership in minutes of IP voice
traffic, noting that Sonus carries approximately 4 out of 10 long
       distance IP voice minutes.

"It started simply with connecting a call over an IP network, but sparked a revolution as operators around the globe began investing in creating the world's most advanced IP networks. To be successful, network operators need a superior innovation partner to drive the possibilities in communications to the next level. Innovation is critical, and that is one area where Sonus has always excelled," said Ahmed. "Sonus shares with its customers a vision for the transformative power of IP, and we're dedicated to helping our customers deliver a new communications landscape that blends traditional communications with new levels of richness, mobility, and tools for improving users' lifestyles."

SONS declined a lot since my latest analysis, as expected by my valuation model. The catalyst for the fall was the following news:

• SONUS NETWORKS INC Files SEC form 8-K, Results of Operations and Financial Condition, Financial Statements and Exhibi (http://biz.yahoo.com/e/070726/sons8-k.html)
EDGAR Online (Thu, Jul 26)

On this day SONS fell 16.5% with a whopping 64 million shares traded.

Sonus Networks Shares Popped: What You Need to Know...

Although we don't believe in timing the market or panicking over market movements, we do like to keep an eye on big changes -- just in case they're material to our investing thesis.

What: Sonus Networks (Nasdaq: SONS) popped 29% in intraday trading today after delivering better-than-expected fourth-quarter earnings and 2011 guidance.

So what: Profits have been a sometimes thing for Sonus, and it badly missed consensus EPS estimates in the third quarter. Revenue in the fourth quarter grew 21% from the year-ago quarter, a huge surprise compared to the consensus forecast of essentially flat revenue.

Now what: Guidance for 2011 calls for revenue growth of 6% to 14% and suggests the year could be slightly profitable on a GAAP and non-GAAP basis. A stronger product portfolio is driving both the recent growth and management's confidence in the coming year. That said, guidance does not give any reason to suggest 2011 EPS will come close to justifying the current stock price.
