Mitsubishi Gas Chemical farms into Ivanhoe Energy's Sichuan Gas Project in China
Tuesday January 3, 8:16 am ET
BEIJING, China, Jan. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Ivanhoe Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: IVAN and TSX: IE, IE.U), indirectly through its wholly-owned subsidiary Sunwing Zitong Energy Ltd., has farmed out 10% of its exploration and development contract for the Zitong Block in China's Sichuan Basin to Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. of Japan.
Mitsubishi will pay Sunwing US$4 million for a 10% interest in the project, subject to approval of the farm-out by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and PetroChina Company Limited. Mitsubishi has the option to increase its participating interest to 20% by paying US$400,000 plus costs per percentage point prior to any discovery, or $8 million plus costs for an additional 10% interest after completion and testing of the first well drilled under the farmout agreement.
"The agreement with Mitsubishi provides additional funding to continue our exploration drilling activities in the Sichuan basin," said Leon Daniel, Ivanhoe Energy President and CEO. "The US$4 million that we will receive under the agreement will be used toward drilling our second exploratory well in the basin in 2006."
Sunwing has a 100% working interest in a 30-year production-sharing contract with CNPC, signed in September 2002, to commercially develop the Zitong Block. Sunwing and Mitsubishi will receive approximately 75% of any net project revenues before payout and approximately 45% after payout. PetroChina, a subsidiary of CNPC, may elect to participate, through a working interest of up to 51%, in any development of the project.
Ivanhoe Energy was obligated to conduct a minimum exploration program during the first three years of the Zitong Block contract ending December 1, 2005 (Phase 1). The Phase 1 work program included acquiring approximately 300 miles of new seismic lines, reprocessing approximately 1,250 miles of existing seismic and drilling 7,000 meters (22,966 feet). The first well, drilled earlier this year, reached a total depth of 9,022 feet. Based on log analysis, no commercial volumes of hydrocarbons were conclusively detected and the well was suspended.
Ivanhoe Energy has completed Phase 1, with the exception of drilling approximately 13,800 feet. Ivanhoe Energy has received approval from CNPC for an extension to May 31, 2006, and CNPC has advised they will grant an additional six-month extension if additional time is required, to fully evaluate and drill a second Phase 1 exploration well. Following the second Phase 1 exploration well, a decision will be made jointly with Mitsubishi on entering the next three-year exploration phase.
The Sichuan Basin, in Southwestern China approximately 930 miles southwest of Beijing, is the country's largest gas-producing region - with a natural gas resource potential estimated by Chinese officials to be 260 trillion cubic feet. There is a strong and growing market for natural gas in Sichuan, with approximately 120 million people living within the basin. An existing gas transportation grid is close to the project and a major natural gas trunk line, with initial capacity in excess of 200 million cubic feet per day, recently was completed to transport gas from the Sichuan Basin to Eastern China. Under existing delivery contracts, the wellhead price of gas destined for residential and commercial consumers is currently regulated in the range of US$2 to US$3.25 per thousand cubic feet; however recent announcements by the National Reform and Development Commission of the Chinese government indicate that natural gas prices in China will be deregulated in the near future.
Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. is a diversified Japanese natural gas, chemicals and advanced materials company with operations around the world. Mitsubishi's 2004 net sales were US$3.2 billion, its total assets were US$4.1 billion and it had over 4,400 employees worldwide.

Ivanhoe Energy's Revolutionary Heavy-to-Light Oil Process Achieves Performance Goals as Commercial Tests Begin
Tuesday January 17, 8:43 am ET
BAKERSFIELD, CA, Jan. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Ivanhoe Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: IVAN and TSX: IE, IE.U) announced today that its revolutionary field- located heavy oil upgrading Commercial Demonstration Facility (CDF) in California has successfully achieved a number of important performance goals culminating in an extended run last week. The successful extended test follows a period of continual incremental enhancements to the CDF over recent months, during which the CDF was operated utilizing a variety of crude oils and operating criteria. Ivanhoe Energy will now begin testing crudes from potential partners with an initial focus on heavy crudes from California and Western Canada, including bitumen from Canada's Athabasca Tar Sands region.
"Following our acquisition of Ensyn Group Inc. and the heavy oil upgrading technology (HTL) in April 2005, we have successfully executed an extended program of technical and operational enhancements to the CDF," said Leon Daniel, Ivanhoe Energy's President and CEO. "These enhancements will allow us to proceed with the design and construction of crude-specific and site-specific full-scale 10,000 to 15,000 barrel per day facilities. We have a number of interested potential partners from around the world, including from the significant Athabasca tar sands region of Western Canada, as well as California, and we look forward to testing their crudes and working toward commercial agreements. We will provide details of our progress and arrange tours of the CDF as we move forward."
The CDF runs to date have successfully demonstrated a number of commercial configurations and processing alternatives, including both once-through and recycle modes of operation. A number of progressive HTL process enhancements have been validated during the CDF test program, including flue gas sulphur capture, heavy metals capture, and acidity reduction.
The CDF, the first of its kind in the world using Ivanhoe Energy's new proprietary heavy oil upgrading technology, is located in Aera Energy LLC's (Aera) Belridge heavy oil field near Bakersfield, California. Aera is a California limited liability company owned by affiliates of Shell and ExxonMobil.
Ivanhoe Energy's field located heavy oil upgrading technology has four key competitive advantages:
- It is field-located and effective at a relatively small minimum scale
of 10,000 to 15,000 barrels per day;
- The value of the upgraded liquid product means the producer is able to
capture the majority of the price differential between heavy and light
crude oil;
- The upgraded product is easily transported by pipeline without the
need for light blend oils; and
- The process generates significant on-site excess energy, replacing
natural gas for production of steam and/or power used in heavy-oil
recovery.
Ivanhoe Energy's HTL technology adds significant incremental value, flexibility, and risk avoidance to heavy oil producers in areas with existing infrastructure and alternative development options, such as Western Canada, and is also a unique option for the development of "stranded" heavy oil or tar sand deposits that cannot be produced due to lack of on-site energy or transportation challenges. Ivanhoe Energy's business plan is focused on the development of reserves and production, and intends to use its HTL technology as a critical, value-added tool in this regard.
Ivanhoe Energy is an independent international oil and gas exploration and development company building long-term growth in its reserve base and production. I forgot about the call yesterday so saw no reason for such a big move today other then momo - shorted here at 3.60. will keep tight stop in case it runs again but soon it will have to pullback as no contracts out as far as I see.
Totally agree metro..
I shorted @ 3.18 since I got a bit after the market opened (west coast, too damn early).
I was going to short it in the premarket but I would have to get up at 5 for that!
Got out just in time, wonder whether this is for real or just a joke. But I have to admit it was fun while it lasted. Can't wait for the next run.
It seems support at $2.5, I will buy some here. Any idea?
I have to agree with you. If any more news comes out this thing is going to fly. Would be nice to be a fly on the wall.

Ivanhoe has recently expanded it's partnership with China's state owned CITIC Group
IVAN has taken over a major oil field in China in exchange for stocks.
Ivanhoe is also in an ideal position to expand in the Tar sands region in Canada with it's heavy to light crude technology.
With the current push by President Bush to minimize dependents on MidEast oil, Ivanhoe could be a significant player with this technology.

I am glad that I bought it Friday based on the chart.
With today's news, the stock will not go down for sure. The company has just announced positive result for their heavy-to-light oil convertion technique.
The commercial value for this technique should be huge.
The company actually gave a very good earning report last quarter - almost break-even.

Closed gap. Up from here. Maybe :P
Alister,
The bottom of the channel comes in today, March 9, at 2.733. The slope is 0.02278, so add that amount each day. That trendline has been validated by a third tag, so I'd look for the exits if it looks like it's going to tank below it, or close below it.
The third tag of the bottom of the channel violated it by two cents intraday, but then it ran to the top of the channel, so you don't want to get jiggled out of it on a "slight" violation. That's always a judgment call on those intraday penetrations.
Using the same slope of 0.02278 to create a top for the channel that is exactly parallel, the tag of the top of the channel on Monday exceeded it by less than a penny, indicating that the stock is responding with sensitivity to the parameters of the channel.
The top of the channel comes in today, March 9, at 3.3306. Add the 0.02278 each day.
The reversal candlestick in IVAN is reminiscent of a discussion that we had yesterday morning in the MCU folder. Your reversal candlestick in IVAN also was on the heaviest volume day for the move in the stock; 78 million shares.
IVAN looks to be ratcheting its way higher in this channel, working off that overhead supply.
Good luck. Hope you make a bunch, and if you don't, you already have made a bunch in this stock. Applause.

This candlevolume chart gives a better depiction of that.
"Weak-handed" longs who bought at or near the opening of that big black candle got stuck at the top, and many of them are selling into rallies within this channel (sorry, the trendlines of the channel get screwed up on the Candlevolume chart).

After breaking 2.73 support, IVAN "dropped like a rock," as you say, on volume, because the validated channel support was broken.

IVAN UPGRADED !! ;D ;D ;D
Jefferies upgrades IVAN to Buy from Hold and raises their tgt to $4 from $1.65 based on its Heavy-To-Light (HTL) Heavy Oil upgrading technology. They believe IVAN will leverage this proprietary process into Joint Ventures with operators with significant proven heavy oil properties, which could ultimately represent $14.67 per share of Present Value. The firm notes in order to prove commerciality of the HTL process, Ivanhoe built a 1,000 Bopd test facility in Aera Energy's Belridge Heavy Oil field, located near Bakersfield, California. After performing a successful test run on California Crude, the firm says Ivanhoe is now focused on performing longer test runs for potential partners utilizing both Heavy California crude and Athabasca Heavy crude (Bitumen). The firm says implementation of the H.T.L process can increase the present value of a standard 30,000 bopd heavy oil project by $860 mln. They believe Ivanhoe can leverage its proprietary H.T.L process into gaining ownership of between 25% and 35% of a new Heavy Oil project -representing between $342-$479 mln of present value net to Ivanhoe for each project. Based on the assumption that crude oil averages $65 and IVAN enters into five agreements, the firm says this could represent $3.5 bln of present value to IVAN, or $14.67 per share.
I believe that it is time to give IVAN some attention again. I see a double bottom forming and a good entry here in 1.40's with a tight stop at 1.24 if the reversal does not pan out. But the entire energy sector is turning around from its beating and the shoulder season for lower energy demand is ending. I am a bag holder here but will look to average down monday but stop these shares at 1.24.
It was just listed on the toronto exchange, good news for a solid company.
thoughts on IVAN??
cheers Joe
I'd suggest wait for the price to come back above 9sma at least in the weekly chart for safer play ;)
Thank you Terliso, I see that 9ma about 1.60, we may hit that soon if we get some VOL, I will be watching monday and decide when i see if Ivan gets any buyers. thanx joe
PS are you still holding some CTDC target 9? thoughts on DVAX, i am thinking we will see 8 before we see 6.. hmm will see Nice call on FLE, are you still holding for 8.3 or sell? I like EGHT and GNBT as well
I'm still holding CTDC & sold FLE below below my target price.... about DVAX i'm concern about the RSI in the weekly chart it's so narrow as you can see it's now pointing down, I think DVAX will go down & possibly fill the gap... IMHO
Hey guys, glad to see IVAN is getting a bit of attention. Just had a look at it while looking for possible bullish reversal candle patterns... we have had 2 morning stars (the last one of an inverted hammer) in the last couple of weeks, suggesting that it wants to reject a further downward move, at least in the short term....
Longer term, IVAN has been in an extended downtrend after the huge rally at the begining of the year. To me it looks like an extended falling wedge that is starting to narrow, and may be ready to reverse - signals include a bullish positive divergence between the share price and both MACD and RSI in the last 6 weeks. Also i like those recent candles. The 13 EMA has been constraining most of this downward move and now sits right at 1.40, which is obvious short term resistance. If IVAN gets a break of this resistance, it could test the top of the pattern around 1.48 and a breakout from this level (aqnd the pattern may set up a move to next obvious resistance at 1.87.
Good luck joet, I know you are in this one, I will keep it on my radar... ;)
Well, I knew I shoulda bought IVAN yesterday, as everything looked ripe for a reversal, but I got caught up in a few other things and it slipped past me (must havebeen the lack oif early action). It closed well at 1.48, and I rectified my mistake this morning.
Already IVAN is acting well this morning - volume coming in and price above 1.50... smells like a breakout to me!!! Targets... 1.68 and 1.82
Howdie Scotts and company
I did jump in at 1.41 yesterday... with a tight stop, and it is working out so far. (yet i am also bag holder, so averaged down. I like your targets at resistance points, would you call this a "falling Wedge breakout"? I am poling folks on their Strategy, Do you sell as a rule when a target is Made?
I liked that it held a gained a small amount today in a poor day for the overall market. Any idea what the Float is on IVAN? It is one of the few on a primary Exchange that i have noticed that does not list its Key Statisics on the Yahoo site!
I believe Energy sector will see some new life now that the shoulder season is ending (although i got stopped out on my VLO position that i was playing a W pattern...
OMNI sure is doing well, hope ou are in that one
Cheers Joe
Hey Joet,
I still can't believe that I sold OMNI last week around 8.30, when it broke down from the 8.60s, only to reverse immediately after hourse, making a big gap up and continuing to rip. That was a fakeout that well and truly trapped me, and when I realised I was wrong, I didn't jump back in and chase it!! Aaarrggghhh!!!!!
As for IVAN, I really liked the volume yesterday morning, and things looked all good with the rest of the market selling off, but it did pull back some during the rest of the day. I would call it a falling wedge (almost) breakout -- I put descending resistance at 1.50 for yesterday, and the high of the day just peeked above the upper bollinger band. For this play I am looking for a short term gain - max 1 week, and depending how things pan out will aim to sell at first resistance/50MA which comes in the 1.65-1.68 range. I am using the 13 ema to support this move, as this sems to have held down the price during the previous downtrend, so a close below the 13 ema will be my signal to sell. As I mentioned before, the positive divergence between MACD, RSI and price in the last 2 months suggests to me the price wants to move higher, and a target around 1.80 should (hopefully) get made.
But saying that its early days yet and we still don't have a breakout confirmation, just a nice reversal candlestick pattern (something like a ladder bottom http://www.candlesticker.com/Cs85.asp)
As far as the float goes, Quote.com states it at 183.7M, with 241.17M total outstanding.
Anyway, that's my trading plan on this one, quite often I don't have such a specific trading plan, but I need to work more on this, as it leads me to being excessively reactive (hence the sell on OMNI, despite having an ideal trading plan there that I didn't follow :-\). And after all, trading plans can always be revised/modified as the action evloves...
Good trading joe!!
Hey Joe,
Well I certainly didn't expect IVAN to hit my first target quite THAT fast!!!
Big volume day yesterday with a clear break out of the descending channel, but no news to be found, although it is possible that the move was associated with huge news for Ivanhoe Mining (IVN) which announced $1.5bln investment yesterday - even though they are completely unrelated companies!!!
Given yesterday's strength, I held on to my shares as I expect we sould see some continuation, however, I wasn't too keen on the weakness at the close yesterday. I want to see IVAN move solidly into the 1.60s, showing continuation strength today. if it starts to look like its languishing, I will probably close out my position, take the small gain and move on. Only interested in short term holds right now.
Good luck though!!

Scotsman,
Nice call. Applaud.
Sorry that I'm late reading this folder, and that I missed this nice trade.
IVAN had a Bull Flag breakout, printing above 1.4212 on Monday. The first target was the top of the Bull Flag, your
1.68, which made yesterday, for a 17.5% gain from the breakout print of 1.43. Nice!
The next target is
1.85 IN PLAY from the measured move off the breakout:
Math:
1.68 - High of the Bull Flag
1.25 - Low of the Bull Flag
1.68 - 1.25 = 0.43 points added to the breakout above 1.42 + 0.43 =
1.85 IN PLAY
If IVAN rallies to that level, the low of the last Bearish Symmetrical Triangle was
1.82, so that could provide resistance. In a situation like that, I often will sell 1.80..1.81, figuring that the target might not get MADE. Depends on how trading is going at the time, but I'll get out near there.
You could be right about the rally having to do with some confusion with Ivanhoe Mining, but it certainly was warranted, technically, based on the Bull Flag breakout, and the breakout the same day above the down trendline (blue) off the June high. There were five hits to that trendline, so it had some significance when it finally got taken out, coincident with the Bull Flag breakout.

That's very well said, Scotsman. It's so easy to fall victim to our emotions in trading, that it helps a great deal to have a trading plan, as you say. Enter here. Stop loss there. Take profits when targets get MADE. Done.
And, as you say, we can re-evaulate as the trade evolves. Example: Did some trendline get violated, or am I just reacting to the "noise?"
Good luck to you and Joe with IVAN. ;)

IVAN is doing a crazy ivan!!! :o :o :o
Currently up over 20% today and acting like it has more in the tank. Not sure whats driving this bu th volume is huge! Bust through 1.68 without much trouble at all.
Bought some a couple days back at 1.33, hope you got some Setravis. These bottom formations are starting to work out pretty well for me! :D
hi probably a little late to the party for me . the 200 ma looming
what do you think,
maxi
I don't really know, its a tough call. It has really ripped today, but it could keep going tomorrow. I mean look what it did last January!!! Short term, I think 2.05 and possible 2.30 is doable, but if you look at the longer term chart, IVAN has a history of big fast moves. If it breaks above 1.82, which is the closest overhead resistance, I would consider that very bullish, and we could see another 30% off that. Suppor looks to come in at 1.68 and 1.60, so a buy around here with a stop below one of these might give a reasonable level of rsik (below 1.60 it would be about 10%). I'd dip a toe in and see how it comes out tomorrow, it could reverse from here or it could gap n go. Really not sure what is causing this move yet.
Edit: While I was typing IVAN dropped down but looks like it wants to find support in the 1.60s - for a speculative trade, at 1.66 where it is now, I think it ain't bad with a stop just below 1.60.
IVAN has made a strong bounce North here from this,

Ivan looks like it could be a very good looking stock.
Could work its way to the 3's?
That's just my feeling, but what do I know, ???

Ivanhoe Energy 2007 First Quarter Results and Operations Update.......
VANCOUVER, May 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Ivanhoe Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: IVAN and TSX: IE) will today file its Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q for the quarter ended March 31, 2007.
Highlights
We made good progress this past quarter consistent with our focus on building a heavy oil development and production company based on our proprietary, patented HTL(TM) heavy oil upgrading technology.
- Cash flow from operating activities remained positive for the tenth
consecutive quarter, generating US$2.6 million, which is used
primarily to fund our HTL business.
- We signed an agreement with INPEX CORPORATION, Japan's largest oil and
gas exploration and production company, to jointly pursue the
opportunity to develop a large heavy oil field in Iraq that Ivanhoe
Energy believes is a suitable candidate for its HTL technology. This
agreement calls for a payment by INPEX to Ivanhoe Energy of
US$9 million.
- We signed an agreement with a significant Western Canadian oil sands
producer for a joint feasibility and testing program using our
proprietary HTL technology for the processing of a unique heavy oil
stream from the Athabasca oil sands region of Western Canada.
- We successfully completed key performance tests at our Commercial
Demonstration Facility (CDF) in California in preparation for the
design of full-scale commercial facilities.
- We sanctioned the construction of a Feedstock Test Facility, a small,
highly flexible HTL unit that will provide a cost-effective and
flexible testing facility for third party crudes.
HTL Business Development Activities
Ivanhoe Energy and INPEX CORPORATION, Japan's largest oil and gas exploration and production company, signed an agreement to jointly pursue the opportunity to develop a heavy oil field in Iraq that Ivanhoe Energy believes is a suitable candidate for its HTL technology. The agreement provides INPEX with a significant minority interest in the venture and requires a payment by INPEX to Ivanhoe Energy of US$9 million as a contribution towards Ivanhoe Energy's past field studies and related costs. The agreement calls for these funds to be paid in the second quarter of 2007. INPEX has expressed an interest in supporting the development of the HTL technology and indicated that the technology is expected to have the potential to improve the economics of heavy oil production the world over.
Ivanhoe Energy and a Western Canadian oil sands producer have signed an agreement to pursue a joint feasibility and testing program using Ivanhoe Energy's proprietary HTL technology on a unique heavy oil stream from the producer's Athabasca operations. This potential new application of the HTL technology is another example of the flexibility of our proprietary heavy oil upgrading technology. The application contemplated by this test program compliments our main strategy of deploying our HTL technology as a strategic tool to acquire and develop heavy oil reserves.
HTL Technology Development Activities
Four successful runs at the CDF were performed over the past quarter, processing California vacuum tower bottoms (VTBs). Ivanhoe Energy's primary goals were achieved in all runs, namely the confirmation of yields and product quality compared with previous pilot data, as well as proving out our new high quality processing configuration. The recent CDF runs have successfully demonstrated the technical capability of this facility. In addition, a new sampling system was installed and tested this quarter. This sampling process allows us to obtain more accurate product samples at multiple points during individual test runs, and with shorter run times.
Ivanhoe Energy has initiated the design and construction of an additional HTL facility, the Feedstock Test Facility (FTF). The FTF is a small, highly flexible state-of-the-art HTL facility which will permit more cost-effective screening of feedstock crudes for current and potential partners in smaller volumes and at lower costs than required at the current test facility and will incorporate all of the recent improvements identified during CDF operations. As we continue to advance our technology, this unit will form an integral part of the ongoing post-commercialization optimization of our products and processes.
Ivanhoe Energy is proceeding with preliminary, non site-specific engineering related to the first fully commercial HTL facility, supported by the recent successful CDF runs. The FTF will provide additional data and will support the detailed engineering process once the first commercial target location and crude has been established. The FTF, costing approximately US$7.9 million, will be completed in early 2008, and be commissioned soon thereafter. Ivanhoe Energy is in discussion with several parties who have expressed an interest in participating in the co-development and cost sharing of the FTF. The location of this facility will be determined in the near future.
Cash flow from operating activities remained positive for the tenth consecutive quarter, generating US$2.6 million. Our existing production in the U.S. and China continued to fund the business and technology development expenses associated with the planned deployment of our HTL technology. Our loss narrowed from the fourth quarter, primarily due to a non-cash impairment of our China oil and gas properties of $4.7 million that was incurred in the fourth quarter of 2006. Revenue decreased as production volumes fell slightly and average oil prices were lower.
Liquidity and Capital Resources
On March 31, 2007, our cash position was US$10.8 million. Operating activities provided US$2.6 million in cash for the first quarter of 2007. Capital investments for the first quarter of 2007 were US$5.3 million.
On April 19, 2007 we announced an agreement with INPEX CORPORATION under which Ivanhoe Energy will receive $9 million. We expect to receive the funds in the second quarter of 2007

Ivanhoe Energy Successfully Demonstrates Final Key Commercial Configuration of Heavy Oil Upgrading Technology
Wednesday June 6, 8:00 am ET
High Quality "Recycle" Configuration Applicable to Bitumen from Athabasca Oilsands
BAKERSFIELD, CA, June 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Ivanhoe Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: IVAN and TSX: IE) President and CEO Joe Gasca and Chief Technology Officer Dr. Robert Graham today announced the successful demonstration of the third and final processing configuration to be tested at the company's heavy oil upgrading (HTL(TM)) Commercial Demonstration Facility (CDF) in California. Completion of the successful test positions Ivanhoe Energy to proceed with the design and construction of full-scale, commercial HTL facilities.
The latest demonstration used a "Recycle" configuration, which is one of the operating modes that can be used to produce a "High Quality" upgraded product. High Quality modes typically would be applicable to bitumen production, wherein higher levels of upgrading and viscosity reduction, as well as significant by-product energy, are required. Bitumen production in the Athabasca oilsands in Western Canada is expected to be the most significant market for this mode of HTL operation.
This is the third processing configuration to be successfully demonstrated at the CDF. Ivanhoe Energy has previously announced successful demonstrations of a High Yield mode, where liquid yields are maximized, as well as a "Once Through" High Quality configuration that, similar to the Recycle High Quality configuration, emphasizes product quality and on-site energy production. The three configurations may be used independently, or in various combinations, to match processing modes to feedstock characteristics and production goals.
The most recent run used California vacuum tower bottoms (VTBs), which have an API gravity of 5.6 degrees. California VTBs are heavier than Athabasca bitumen, which typically has an API gravity of approximately 8 degrees. The properties of the upgraded oil produced in the Recycle High Quality configuration will be released as appropriate along with additional test run data. The next test run, scheduled for this quarter, will process Athabasca bitumen that has been provided by a major international integrated oil company.
"This successful demonstration of the Recycle mode complements other HTL configurations previously demonstrated in our California CDF. Ivanhoe Energy now has the full suite of tools to progress to full-scale commercial facilities in a number of markets around the world, especially where fuller upgrading and higher levels of on-site energy is required. The Athabasca oilsands represents the primary market opportunity that requires the configuration announced today," Joe Gasca said.
Dr. Robert Graham added, "This successful demonstration of the Recycle configuration fulfills the primary technical objectives that Ivanhoe Energy established for the CDF. This latest configuration provides us with significant flexibility to tailor our process to specific business opportunities. Future CDF operations will be deal-driven and will focus on the testing of heavy crudes in support of project development in Western Canada and around the world."
Ivanhoe Energy's proprietary, patented HTL(TM) heavy oil upgrading technology produces lighter, more valuable crude oil from heavy oil and bitumen at lower costs and in smaller-sized plants than conventional technologies. The process also produces by-product energy that can be used to generate steam or electricity.

Hi Setravis,
You beat me posting IVAN being active in the premarket by a few seconds.
I have this and DNDN on my watchlist today. :)
Makes me wish I bought that at 1.73. Still hesitant to hold overnight.
Will be watching market direction today.

Will it go past 2.28 today?
That is up to the market. ;)
Fibonacci numbers are all over the place.
It depends what points the trader uses.
Here's a projection that uses 2.10 as high and 1.75 as low.
The 1.27 retracement is 1.655 which is closer to the previous daily significant swing low at 1.65.
Using the 52 week high and low, this is what I came up with:
1.74 is a 0.618 retracement.
Recently touched the 1.62% retracement of the 15 minute opening range at 1.86.
Currently, the 5 minute chart is showing price above the 8ma with a positive MACD near zero.
1 minute stochastics is still overbought.
I wonder where price will be when the 1 minute stochastics become oversold with time and sales printing a lot of green.
If the 1.86 support doesn't hold where would the next buy target be?
Assuming that the support and resistance level is a given, the next step would depend on the trader's emotion for the battle of fear and greed.
Here are potential Intraday support and resistance levels if the 1.86 support is broken.
IVAN is having a good month... In since March 11 @ 1.60
IVAN: Reaches New 52 Week High on Higher Crude Prices
Tuesday , May 20, 2008 17:59ET
Tuesday's session saw oil reach another new high as the futures for June delivery hit $129.31. July crude was up to $128.78 while July Brent was up to $127.33. Causing some of the price spike was Boone Pickens prediction that oil will continue to rise, possibly to highs of $150 a barrel this year.
Pickens noted that the elevated oil prices were being driven by depletion in supplies around the world and not being driven by speculators as many have maintained. With expiration on Tuesday and the price hitting another high, his claims could very well be substantiated.
With Goldman's claim of $140 plus and Pickens' prognostication of $150 by the end of the year, the investor may be getting a bargain with oil at $129. With that type of price, many small cap oil names were again, coming into play. Ivanhoe Energy (IVAN) was one of those names.
The Company is an independent international heavy oil development and production company focused on pursuing long-term growth in its reserves and production using advanced technologies, including its proprietary heavy oil upgrading process (HTL(TM)).
Last week, the Company reported earnings of a loss of 3c per share versus a loss of 3c on revenue of $11.2 million in the first quarter against, $9.26 million in the comparable quarter.
The Company first made headlines in January of 2006 when they announced the development of technology to reduce the viscosity and, in turn, reduce the price of harvesting heavy crude from the ground. In a press release on January 17th, the company reported the achievement of performance goals in a commercial test of their "revolutionary" process of turning heavy crude to light crude.
To get an idea of the history, the company stated that the process wasn't in fact proprietary, but was an adaptation to existing technology that their acquired company, Ensyn Group, started studying back in the 80's and patented. The patents are now solely owned by IVAN.
Since mid February, shares have rallied from lows below $1.40 to highs of $2.50 on Tuesday before closing at $2.41, up over 6% on the day. With the price of oil continuing to rise, the payoff for refining the heavy crude to light will grow.
Ready to take a long term run...
The run that started in 2007 sputtered, this time it will not!
Looking over the past 5 yrs, this company had an incredible initial stock price rise as a whole bunch of buyers were pretty excited about the prospects of this company. Then after the long retreat, I think people just lost interest and now it really seems to me that Ivanhoe's business is getting a stronger foothold in the industry, and it truly seems that the original reasons for investor interest are starting to bear fruit.

Shares of Ivanhoe Energy have been in an uptrend ever since the stock tested its 200-day moving average for support in late April. Since then the stock has run up from the $1.80 level to more than $3 in the first few days of June.
