Title: ALTI
Post by: badesrini on June 16, 2005, 11:46:35 AM
Looks like will go to $3.50 - $4.00 with heavy naked shorts squeeze.

I'd be very careful with ALTI.
I was in for the second half of "The big jump!", and didn't get out quick enough.

:-\

If they come up with some real good news it'll probably make another move like that, so I'm always watching it.

I don't know about HYGS - it seems that fuelcells are getting more and more interesting.

I bought some BLDP myself today. I'd also like to get FCEL.

Cheers.

I've been watching this for months.  Frustrating to say the least.  May even put you to sleep.

If there's news, it will rise but never seems to sustain the increase.  I see it go up in pre-market, opens higher, then falls.

Volume up today for some reason.

If there's ever a BIG battery deal for their nanotechnoilogy, then it will be a winner.  Just a matter of time...

ALTI moves a lot - sometimes!

They have a CC today, released some news, and (last I checked) good trading over yesterdays close!

I'm going to sacrifice one of my "brick-shares" to be able to go with the flow.

Cheers!

Maybe it was a good thing you didn't get it today, David.

Is there such a thing as a reverse "Midas' touch"?
If there is, I think I've got it.  ::)

When I bought at 3.06 this morning, I felt lucky.
It closed at 2.87. Not feeling quite quite as lucky.

Oh, well.

Apparently there was no earthshaking news today.
I guess that I'll spend some time tending the garden instead of sitting in front of the computer biting my nails  ;)

Probably you have the right approach: Buy the thing, and then go do something else for the rest of the day.
Family, and all that other important stuff.

The stocks WILL cycle, so my next big excercise wil be PATIENCE!

Love this site and all the good folks on it.

Cheers!

I don't know of any news, have been searching.

I even went to the yahoo-board (YUCK!) but the guesses there are as good as yours and mine.

The theory I liked the best though, was that somebody leaked some news  ;)

This have been sitting so quietly for so long, that it's not even funny!

If that's so, tomorrow will be a good day!

Please post if you find some news (or good rumours!)

Cheers.

I've searched all over and can't find any news. I bought this a while ago on the last upgrade at 3.12 and missed getting out even quite a few times, so i just dumped most of my shares at 3.38. Still holding a few in case it really breaks out.

Just bought at 3.11.  Thanks, Cumulina and Setravis for the charts (both applauded).

I like yesterday's thrust higher.  I like today's pullback to recent highs, and to the top of the Ichimoku Kumo (cloud).

My stop is a close below 2.86.  Risk: A loss of 8%.

ALTI currently is BID 3.10...ASK 3.11

Thanks for the encouraging analysis  ;D

I'm sitting wurrying - hoping that I didn't do a stupid thing by not selling with a mini-gain (1%  ::) )

There are so many people who has ALTI on their watch-list, that if it makes a stir - it turns out to be a leap. It would be nice with a bit more stirring, though!

Quite a different thing: Has anybody been watching ISRG today?  >:D
Who said big guys can't jump?
Somebody on a yahoo-board mentioned it, saying that THAT'S a short-squeeze!
Glad I don't know how to short!

I just wanted to add, that I recieved 9 (Nine!) notifications on ALTI this morning, one of them reads:

8:02am 08/12/05
Altair Nanotechnologies surges as revenue jumps 226% (ALTI) By John Ittner
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - Altair Nanotechnologies' [ s: alti] shares rose 8.2% to $3.29 in pre-market action on Instinet early Friday after reporting that second-quarter revenue grew 226% to $530,000. The company said it lost $1.9 million, or 3 cents a share for the quarter. In the year-ago period the company lost $2.2 million, or 4 cents. Altair also received an order for 2,200 pound order for lithium titanate spinel electrode nanomaterials from Advanced Battery Technologies Inc. (ABAT) Altair makes advanced ceramic nanomaterial technology products.

I added the glowing  ;)

Just bought at 3.11.  Thanks, Cumulina and Setravis for the charts (both applauded).

I like yesterday's thrust higher.  I like today's pullback to recent highs, and to the top of the Ichimoku Kumo (cloud).

Thanks for being on top of that, Cumulina.  Applause.

ALTI has been finding support at both the up trendline, which now is validated, and at the bottom of the Ichimoku Kumo (cloud), which should, and did, act as support.  I like that.

What I don't like too much is this big gap up.  ALTI tends to open near its high, then profit-taking sets in (black candles).  Technically, ALTI breaks out here on a print of 3.35, but I'm not inclined to trust that this is going to be a "gap and go."  The news doesn't sound that good, does it?   ;)

I suspect that it will be a "gap to crap," so I'll sell at least half my position this morning, and I'm leaning toward selling it all.  I'll post my decision.

Thanks again!

Sold it all at 3.30.  Profit: 6.1%.

I posted the following in the TASR folder regarding limit vs. market orders and thought that I'd also post it here as a "real life" example of trading decisions that we  all have to make, beyond our technical and fundamental analysis.  If I had placed the wrong type of order, I would have given back ALL of my profit as of the last trade in ALTI at 3.11, which was the price I paid for the stock:

"... there are situations in which you should use a market order.

One good example was the sale of ALTI that I posted in that folder this morning.  The stock was indicated to open at the top of the Symmetrical Triangle, and if it did open there, I wanted to take my profit and get out.  I suspected a "gap to crap."

By the time ALTI opened, the indication had dropped a little to BID 3.31...ASK 3.32.  The trendline is at 3.35.  I thought about waiting for it to open and then trying to sell it closer to the trendline at 3.35, but decided that it likely would drop real fast if I was right about the "gap to crap" open.   I had 5,000 shares, and I didn't want to fool around trying to guess what limit price to enter.  If I had put a 3.35 limit for example, often they won't fill it, and you sit and watch the stock tank, and watch your profit slip away.

I've had that happen MANY times.  They keep dropping the BID...ASK below your limit price, or if you're trying to buy, they keep raising the BID....ASK above your limit price.

With ALTI, there were relatively few fills higher than my 3.30 fill.   ALTI made its high for the day in the first five minutes of trading.  It's now trading at 3.11, where I originally bought it.   If I had entered a limit order that didn't get filled because the stock dropped so fast, I would have lost all of my profit, even though I "got it right" about the "gap to crap."   Believe me,  I'd be very frustrated that I had entered a limit order.

In a situation like ALTI this morning, don't hesitate to SELL AT MARKET."

Here's the "gap to crap" in ALTI:

Just wondering how many people are still in this if any?  Looking around I found the following on a news/alert site.  Perhaps this is an entry point?

============
Altair has shown upward momentum today, trading up 16% with an unusually high volume. The company announced earlier this week that they will be holding will host a project update conference call. The call will be held, October 5, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. Shareholders and members of the investment community are invited to participate in the conference call. The conference call dial-in number for both U.S. and international callers is +1 973 935 2981. Today's increase in demand is a result of the investors anticipation of the results of this conference call.

Briefing com showed the following upgrade on Sept 19 and I have found that if the stock does not rally that it is still good to watch as they can have delayed reactions. Whatever - sometimes upgrades are also made so that brokers can sell - but here is what was said:

"Altair Nanotechnologies: Believe shares could move up on potential deal announcements; $4 tgt - WR Hambrecht (ALTI) 2.59 : WR Hambrecht thinks ALTI could move up as potential deal announcements roll in over the next few months. Firm says there could be two announcements before the early October quarterly update; one on NanoCheck and one in the Life Sciences area. Firm's recent visit to ALTI's headquarters has given them more confidence in their Buy rating thesis. Believes ALTI-based hybrid battery could be sooner than expected, and says the hybrid market is taking off and automakers are talking to Altair about a midrange battery with less performance improvement but hitting the market soon. Firm notes this would involve replacing only the anode and leaving the cathode alone. Long-term investors should build positions now as they believe 2006 estimates are conservative. Reits Buy and $4 tgt."

A Picture's Worth a Thousand Words
By Seth Jayson (TMF Bent)
September 22, 2005

Is this the kind of cutting-edge research lab you expect from a self-proclaimed nanotech leader that was (earlier this year) worth several hundred million dollars? In the words of one of my waggish colleagues who spent years of his life in the pharmacology lab, that lab's got "less equipment than a high-school chemistry class." Open-toed, high-heeled shoes in the research room? What kind of important experiment is being conducted with that red fluid in the center? Is this all play-acting?

I don't want to oversnark this, but I think this is a fair question, especially because Altair Nanotechnologies (Nasdaq: ALTI) produces a lot of fluff, and it has a long history of generating more enthusiasm than earnings.

In recent weeks, reality has begun to creep back into the share price at Altair, which earlier this year shot up to more than $6 a stub after a press release purported to describe a breakthrough in its lithium-battery technology. Said breakthrough has thus far produced only an R&D agreement with an undercapitalized Chinese battery company that plans to try and sell its wares to the manufacturers of electric cars. And we all know how many of those there are clogging the streets and highways.

Its greatest success this year was securing a load of cash through a private placement, shortly after the PR and investor overreaction sent the stock through the roof. Since then, it's been the same old thing: promises of great potential for products and processes. If these great products and processes ever reach market, they'll have to compete with established products made by established companies such as Genzyme (Nasdaq: GENZ), DuPont (NYSE: DD), and Lyondell Chemicals (NYSE: LYO).

Not that this doesn't make for great drama. In addition to the recent exit of the firm's independent auditor, there are lawsuits and ex-insiders posting their not-entirely-sanguine thoughts on the company on public message boards.

There's a lesson here, Fools. What goes up like a rocket eventually rains down like meteoric shrapnel, especially when the only fuel to keep things afloat is overhyped hope. The next time a "big news" press release rolls out, take a deeper look. Start with that picture.

And here is a link to the photo, that got The Motley Fool so upset...

http://www.altairnano.com/Inside_the_Lab.html

...but the stock IS a day-trader favourite. Just keep your eyes on it!

From briefing.com:

"The test results demonstrated that the performance of these lithium ion battery cells exceed the system-level power requirements set forth by the U.S. Council for Automotive Research FreedomCAR Energy Storage System Performance Goals for hybrid electric vehicle, as well as those requirements published by major U.S. automakers," said Evan House, Ph.D., Program Director, Altairnano's Advanced Materials & Power Systems business unit.

Full Press Release :

Altair Nanotechnologies Lithium Ion Battery Cells Exceed HEV Power Requirements of U.S. FreedomCAR (http://biz.yahoo.com/iw/060117/0106527.html)

"RENO, NV--(MARKET WIRE)--Jan 17, 2006 -- Altair Nanotechnologies Inc. (NasdaqSC:ALTI - News) today announced that its battery research and development team successfully completed a testing program for lithium ion battery cells containing Altairnano's nano-structured lithium titanate electrode materials.
"The test results demonstrated that the performance of these lithium ion battery cells exceed the system-level power requirements set forth by the U.S. Council for Automotive Research FreedomCAR Energy Storage System Performance Goals for hybrid electric vehicle (HEVs), as well as those requirements published by major U.S. automakers," said Evan House, Ph.D., Program Director, Altairnano's Advanced Materials & Power Systems business unit. These power requirements can be viewed at: www.uscar.org/consortia&teams/consortiahomepages/con-usabc.htm

The battery cells using Altairnano's nano-structured lithium titanate electrode materials in battery cell tests developed for HEV applications demonstrate a useable state-of-charge range twice that of conventional nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries presently used in hybrid electric vehicles. Nano-structured lithium titanate electrode materials offer a near-term promise of lithium ion batteries that exhibit rapid charge and discharge, longer cycle life and more inherently safe performance than either currently available nickel metal hydride or lithium ion batteries. These results support the feasibility of a power lithium ion battery pack half the size of those currently being tested for HEV applications.

We believe this phase of our testing program provides enough data to demonstrate that lithium-ion batteries utilizing our nano-structured battery electrode materials can have both the energy and power densities that exceed those of the nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries currently being used in HEVs," commented Altairnano President and CEO Alan J. Gotcher, Ph.D. "In our meetings with members of the automotive industry in the U.S. and abroad, we have been told that power-based lithium-ion batteries with the ability to discharge and charge rapidly, combined with greater cycle life and abuse tolerance, are desirable for the future of hybrid vehicles.

"This assessment," continued Dr. Gotcher, "was validated in the October 24, 2005, issue of Automotive News, when Japan's largest maker of nickel metal hydride batteries, used by Ford Motor Company and other carmakers of hybrid vehicles, stated that the future belongs to lithium-ion batteries. This sentiment was echoed in the article by Sanyo Electric Company, Toyota Motor Corporation, General Motors and Ford Motor Company executives."

The power of Altair's cell was first demonstrated and published in the September 2004 edition of the advanced energy industry standard, Journal of Power Sources. In that paper, authored by Dr. Du Pasquier and colleagues of the Rutgers University Energy Storage Group, battery cells using Altairnano's nano-structured battery electrodes demonstrated a three-minute full recharge and more than 9,000 cycles of sequential three-minute, 100 percent, recharges and discharges, validating the superior cycle life characteristics of Altairnano's nano-materials, when compared to traditional lithium ion batteries with a cycle life of 300 to 500 recharges and discharges.

The battery testing programs for applications targeting HEVs and electric vehicles are underway at a specially equipped facility located in the company's corporate headquarters in Reno, NV. Located in Anderson, Indiana, Altairnano's battery product application labs, with rapid prototyping and battery testing capabilities, is expected to be fully equipped and operational and to have its first battery cells manufactured by the end of January."

Bingo sebfr, dunno if you or anyone else is still in ALTI but have been keeping an eye  on it since it exploded the other week - has had a nice pennant accumulation over the last several days.  Then I had a look at it late in the day, and it was looking quite bullish forming an ascending triangle and pressing the HOD at 3.24.  Sniffing something I jumped in and then went home....  only to find it had EXPLODED right after I bought in :o

Unbelievable ;D ;D

Now does anyone have any idea why it exploded like this - surely it can't be purely technical, can it???
Lovely charts though - will see how it looks come Monday.  If it has this kind of momentum, it could easily push $4 first thing. :D

Applaud Scottish. Excellent timing :)

Nice move in the last hour of the trading day. I was a bit late so I missed it  >:(.
It's looking good and if it can pass the medium term resistance at $3.73, surely we'll see $4+  ;)

Keep it on watch list for Monday.

Good luck  :)

Just to add another chart, if you are playing this, watch out for the long term resistance zone above $4, as can be seen on the 3 year weekly chart, as well as the  medium term resistance Jimbo mentioned.

Also, a nasty mention from the Motley Fools on Friday may have an impac come mondayt:
http://www.fool.com/news/commentary/2006/commentary06012709.htm?source=eptyholnk303100&logvisit=y&npu=y

I think it could get volatile on Monday - despite positive continuation breakout of the pennant am seeing this as a quick trade for now.

Altair Nanotechnologies Reports 133 Percent Revenue Increase for Fiscal 2005
Friday , March 10, 2006 10:55 ET

RENO, NV, Mar 10, 2006 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- Altair Nanotechnologies Inc. (NASDAQ: ALTI) today reported financial results for its year ended December 31, 2005.

Altairnano reported revenue of approximately $2.8 million, a 133 percent increase, when compared to revenue of approximately $1.2 million for fiscal 2004.

"We are pleased with our financial results and revenue growth for fiscal 2005," commented Altairnano Chief Executive Officer and President Alan, J. Gotcher, Ph.D. "Revenue from contracts and grants increased 92 percent, while revenue generated from commercial collaborations increased more than 49 percent during fiscal 2005. Sales of battery electrode materials and thermal spray materials drove product revenue from $7,503 in fiscal 2004 to approximately $149,000 in 2005."

Dr. Gotcher continued, "We are experiencing solid business development progress with the advancement of our battery initiative, testing of our thermal spray nanoparticles, expansion of our pigment platform, and ongoing development of Renalan, our pharmaceutical product for the treatment of elevated phosphate levels in companion animals. We expect a number of commercial opportunities in these markets to begin producing recurring and sustainable revenue during 2006."

The net loss for fiscal 2005 increased by 43 percent to approximately $10 million, or a net loss per share of $0.17, versus a net loss of $7 million, or a net loss per share of $0.14, for fiscal 2004. The increase in expenditures is associated with increased efforts in product development, marketing and sales initiatives.

"During 2005, our operating expenses increased due in part to additional laboratory facilities in Reno, Nevada, new manufacturing operations in Indiana, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and non-cash charges such as stock option compensation expenses," commented Altairnano Chief Financial Officer Edward Dickinson. "In support of our growth strategy and development plans for fiscal 2005 and 2006, these increases are due in part to the investment in our battery initiative and increased business development efforts."

Dickinson continued, "Net cash used in operations averaged approximately $556,000 per month for the first three quarters, and approximately $942,000 per month during the fourth quarter, as we hired additional personnel and continued to increase investments in product and business development."

As of December 31, 2005, Altairnano's balance sheet was strong, with a cash position and short term investments of approximately $23 million, compared to $7.4 million at December 31, 2004. With the exception of a $3.0 million promissory note to acquire its Reno, Nevada facilities, the company has no debt of consequence.

Dennis - the problem with NAPS is there are a ton of bagholders who bought between $4 and $5 on that huge gap day at the end of January. NAPS is just reentering that territory. Not sure what's driving ALTI. Probably typical speculation/rumor that drives most stocks. Maybe a month from now the stock will be at $8 and we'll know why it went up.

Dennis,

It looks like a technically-driven rally, meaning that the "momo  boys" (momentum players) came in when key resistance levels got taken out.

[I'd like to see ALTI take out near-term resistance (3.79) today, then take out the top of the pattern, at 3.97-3.98, over the next few days.

3.79, and then the top of the Ascending Triangle pattern, at 3.97-3.98 were key resistance levels.  3.80 got printed very early in the session, but then ALTI backed off from there.  When the stock came back and took that out to the upside later in the session, the "momo boys" came in.

That rally took ALTI up to next resistance, at 3.97-3.98.  When that got taken out to the upside at 3:15PM, we not only had breakouts above TWO key resistance levels, it also was a technical breakout above a two-month Ascending Triangle pattern.

The technical traders recognized that fact and jumped in, thus "a technically-driven" rally.  Volume was 3 time average daily volume (100 day).

Vic,

I don't make too much of it.  ALTI ran to 4.19 early, then topped with the NASDAQ.  I would like to have seen the 3.97-3.98 breakout area hold as support, but it looks okay, especially given the down market today.

BTW, I'm using the ascending line of the Ascending Triangle as my stop.  Today, it's at 3.467, just below this week's 3.50 low, prior to the pattern breakout.  The trendline rises 0.0107 per day.

EDIT: It would be nice to see a weekly close today at 3.97-3.98, or better.

Anyone have additional thoughts on ALTI's action today.  I bought in this afternoon after it seemed to recover from the 3.9's and seemed back on it's way up above 4 for good.  I bought in on the (confirmed?) ascending triangle breakout.  I am a little dissapointed it didn't continue up - but often after a breakout a stock will re-test the breakout line.  If it holds, then will proceed up with the breakout.

Any thoughts on ALTI's breakout strength and support levels?

Thanks,
Jason

Vic,

Stocks "know" when we buy them.  As soon as we do, they do NOTHING.  Or, tank.  ;D

Quote
I have a total of 6K shares averaged at $3.98.

ALTI had a bullish DOUBLE breakout on January 17, on huge volume.  From December 28 to February 2, the stock rallied 106%.  After a rally like that, it's good for it to consolidate before continuing higher (Ascending Triangle...continuation pattern).

We're supposed to BUY breakouts of those patterns.  We got a breakout, and you're in at the top of the pattern.   You've got a good entry.   Now, plan where you're going to put your stop in case we've got a false breakout, and plan where you intend to take profits.

Quote
wish me luck...it's Friday!!! yipppeeee... :D

And, with a little bit of luck, the trade will work out.  GOOD LUCK!!  ;D

Jason,

The breakout was confirmed by the close above the pattern on Thursday, which put our upside target IN PLAY.

Quote
I am a little dissapointed it didn't continue up

Me, too.  Let me find that sad face up on the toolbar.   :(

Friday's close back inside the pattern puts the upside target ON HOLD, and if we go back below the Ascending Triangle, the upside target is CANCELLED.  Where's that angry face?

>:(  >:(  >:(

Quote
- but often after a breakout a stock will re-test the breakout line

Yes, or re-test something else inside the pattern, which we'll discuss.

Quote
If it holds, then will proceed up with the breakout.

Yep.  If we get above 3.98, our upside target will be back IN PLAY.

Quote
Any thoughts on ALTI's breakout strength and support levels?

The breakout strength was almost too good.  I said to Boatguy on Thursday morning that I'd like to see near-term resistance at 3.79 get taken out, and then the top of the pattern at 3.97-3.98 get taken out.  I didn't mean all in one day!

The volume on Thursday was 3 times average (100 day), which was fine.  But, often when we take out TWO resistance levels that quickly, it gets "called back" for a re-test.   Given the Inverted Hangman that we got on Friday, it's looking likely that we're going to re-test the breakout above 3.79, to see if "former resistance now is  support."

The highs in the final week of March were 3.79...3.78..3.76...3.79...

We weren't able to knock that out.  So, the stock went down and tested the ascending line.
We got lows of 3.50...3.50...3.52...3.50...

A little Rectangle pattern there: 3.50-3.79.  The top of that pattern, or near the top,  "should be" support now, on a re-test.  If we go much below 3.79, I would consider that real sloppy action, technically, and would be a bit concerned (we need a face on the toolbar with the guy biting his fingernails).

If we go back to the low of the Rectangle pattern at 3.50 (it was support on March 29, March 30 and April 4), we also would be back to where our ascending trendline comes in next week.   That would go beyond sloppy technical action.  We would be in danger of having the Ascending Triangle pattern INVALIDATED, if we break that ascending trendline.

A break of the ascending line would require us to look shocked, confused and hurt, that Ms. Market would abuse us so cruelly.

:o  ???  :'(  >:D

The ascending line (stop loss) data points for next week are:

April 10 - 3.479
April 11 - 3.490
April 12 - 3.500
April 13 - 3.511

Melf Elf,

Great analysis!  Thanks for your thorough thoughts (say that 3 times fast)  :D

Would a failed breakout be considered when the pps drops back below the top line of the triangle, and therefore back into the triangle - causing a sell?  Or would a failed breakout be if the pps drops back down through the top and then also down through the bottom ascending line of the triangle?

If the answer is the first option, then is it generally ok to still hold your position and wait a little longer for the real breakout to occur?   ???

Thanks for any additional input.

Jason

Jason,

Thnak through throats..thnak through throats...thnak through throats  ;D

No.  The breakout becomes "suspect," and the upside target no longer is IN PLAY.  The target goes ON HOLD until the stock breaks out again.  During the time that the stock is back below the breakout, and thus, "suspect," we have to try to determine if its something more than that, i.e. an impending failure.  I'll give you an example of that below, using Chesapeake Energy (CHK)

Quote
Or would a failed breakout be if the pps drops back down through the top and then also down through the bottom ascending line of the triangle?

Yes.  That's confirmation that the breakout was a failure. Again, we'll look at CHK (below).

Quote

Coming back inside the pattern doesn't necessariy mean that the breakout will end up a failure, so it's okay to "hold your position and wait a little while longer for the real breakout to occur", as you suggest.   But, personally, I'm not real patient sitting around with a stock that has fallen back below a breakout.

"Successful trades usually work out right from the start (or close to it)"

"Be patient with your winners.  Be very impatient with your losers."

Let's look at CHK now.

It had an Ascending Triangle breakout on January 30.  On January 31, nice upside follow-thru!   February 1, a Bearish Engulfing pattern that reversed the prior day's bullish candlestick, and the stock closed back below the breakout.

Curses!  (We need a face on the toolbar that obviously is shouting obscenities, but our sensitivities aren't offended because we can't actually hear anything untoward).

Look at the next 3 sessions, the low of which was 33.17, where I have the red Stop sign.  CHK tried to get back above the breakout, but on the fourth day, that failed, and CHK took out that 33.17 low.  (more inaudible shouting of obscenites).

As we can see from the subsequent action, selling the break of that 33.17 low was a very good exit.  CHK later broke below the Ascending Triangle pattern, and then tanked to 27.75.  YUK.

Anecdotally, look at what CHK is doing in the current time-frame.  It's doing it again!!.

CHK broke out of another Ascending Triangle on March 29, and as of Friday's close, it's flirting with breaking below the ascending line of that pattern.  Very irritating.  Very irritating!!

Melf Elf...excellent analogy as always using CHK...

But one thing I'd like to suggest on your chart usage is this - the analysis would be more complete, or should I say...your charts would be more complete giving us a truer pciture...if they showed the volume too....sometimes, false price breakout patterns can be explained well with an accompanying volume action....low volume price breakouts are more often than not, false breakouts.

and in that regard, I think ALTI did have a true breakout on Thursday on large volume...

anyways...good night now!  :)

Vic,

Thanks for the good suggestion, and you make a very good point about volume.   Applause.  CHK didn't have good volume on either breakout.  The chart still intrigues me, though.  Lots of patterns.

Unfortunately, if I show volume, I have to show you all of the "title bars" from the any other indicators that I'm looking at, and it makes it next to impossible to see the chart and read any annotations.   If I close the other indictors (hit the "X"), I lose the indicators, and I also lose all of the work that I've done on them.  I can manually "remove title bar" from each indictor and then "reinstate it" later, but it's time-consuming to do that, just to show a chart.

Below is an example of what you'd see if I show you volume, without closing other windows (and losing them), and without manually moving all of the annotations on the chart so that you can read them.

and in that regard, I think ALTI did have a true breakout on Thursday on large volume...

Yes, it would seem so.  We'll see.  Because I can't show volume (without having the title bar problem),  I try to mention volume in the text of my post, like ALTI breaking out on 3 times average daily volume (100 day) on Thursday.

Yesterday, we discussed:

1. Breakouts that are "suspect," when the stock closes back below the breakout.

2. Where support is in ALTI:

a. The top of the Rectangle, at 3.79
b. The ascending line, at rought 3.48-3.50 for the coming week.

3. Being impatient with losers.

Take a look at CEM (chart below).  It had a Symmetrical Triangle breakout.  Volume wasn't good, but it headed toward the target that was IN PLAY.

On September 16, however, CEM closed back inside the Symmetrical Triangle.  'We have a problem, Houston."

On Septermber 19, however, CEM found support, smack on the ascending line of the triangle. so "all is well," and we're not stopped out.

CEM - September 20, 2005
Title: Re: ALTI may be interesting today

In my view, what would have been particularly painful about having been long CEM when it crashed, was the fact that it found support on the ascending line of the Symmetrical Triangle, the day before it crashed.

It looked like "all was well."

But, we also would have known that, "We've got a problem, Houston," when CEM closed back below the breakout of the Symmetrical Triangle.

Among technicians, there's an "old saw":

"First the chart...then the news," meaning that first, you'll see it in the chart (bullishness or bearishness), then later on, what you're seeing in the chart will be borne out by the news.

That can get into a bit of "TA snobbery."  While the chart very often DOES telegraph what we later find out in "the news," that certainly isn't always the case.

In the case of CEM, the stock did find support on the ascending line the day before the crash.  So, "could it" have gone the other way, and broken out again to the upside?

Certainly.

Was the chart "predicting" a crash?

Certainly not.

It only was telling us, by closing back inside the Symmetrical Triangle, that "We had problems, Houston," and unless/until CEM broke out again, back above the Symmetrical Triangle, "We had problems, Houston."  In other words, we had been warned.

All by way of saying...I'm not going to be real patient with ALTI.  If this gets sloppy, specifically, if ALTI closes back below the top of the rectangle (3.79), I will sell it for a small gain.

I'm lousy at "predicting" anything.  I only will know that a close below 3.79 will mean to me that:

1. The Ascending Triangle breakout above 3.97-3.98 didn't hold.

2. Thursday's breakout above the top of the Rectangle (3.79) didn't hold.

I will have had TWO warnings that, "We've got a problem, Houston."  I will want out.

One last point.  On September 20, when CEM gapped down at the open, I would have sold it on a market order, no questions asked, and that ALWAYS will be my response to a gap down like that, right or wrong.  And, I wouldn't "double down," and try to catch a piano that just was thrown from the top of a builidng, either.  That, generally, isn't a good strategy.

Stocks that crash like CEM did generally take awhile to recover.

MelfElf:

Two things to note on your CEM analysis and why TA may not have worked:

a.) No matter how much of a chartist/technician one is, I think it's fairly well agreed upon, and if not, certainly a lot wiser in my opinion...."TO NEVER RELY ON CHARTS RIGHT AROUND EARNINGS TIME"...in this case, if I knew CEM was gonna release earnings tomorrow, I would definitely not place my bucks on what the chart looks like or what it's trying to say...I've seen many times when a chart looks great, getting ready to breakout and everything...just before the earnings release...so it looks like earnings are gonna be good...but earnings come the next day...and the thing takes a big hit...especially stranger when companys does sound positive on many respects and still the market "doesn;t get what it wants"...

I'm willing to bet that in many such charts that are close to a breakout....if only the earnings were not released close to such a breakout pattern on the chart....the breakout in fact might have occured....you know what I mean?

In other words.....when it comes to charts and earnings....one can never predict which direction the chart will go right after the earnings release...no matter how good or bad the chart looks

b.) In the CEM chart that you posted...it's actually interesting because...when you first posted about support on ascending triangle, and then showed the breakdown the next day...I was wondering...WHY? but then, when I read the fact about earningsd being released that day...I understood the story and why the chart moved the way it did.

In fact, I DO BELIEVE the chart in this case was pointing to a poor earnings...contrary to what you have said about support on ascending triangle, because:
     -  the support you saw from the ascending triangle was just from one day's action...many times, it;s not uncommon to look for action on a couple of follo through days and see if the support is being retested, etc. in other words, based on one day' action of support at ascending triangle is not as "strong an indicator" as compared to the several days preceding the "ascending triangle support day" which showed the stocks falling in price, breaking previous support levels etc....my opinion - the several preceding days of negative price action is greater indication of something "ominuous" as compared to the "one signe day's action" showing ascending triangle support.

Hope you get my point even though I may not hav explained it as concisely as I had wished.

NOTE:  recent exampels that come to mind where the chart was looking posied for a breakout....but earnings happened and the stock either fell through or nothing happened ...DIET and HOM...i've seen several others...but just cannot recall any right now.

After having my shre of nightmares holding stocks thru' eanings, I've completely sowrn off that path aaround7-8 months ago. I feel better now, especially when I see some message boards getting all gaga over earnings period, I try and tell them not to hold thru earnings, they curse me off, and come earnings day, everyone is wondering what happened...and they try to "search desperately for positives" as to why the stock will go back up, after unfortunately becoming bag holders.

Vic,

In the case of CEM, it was an earnings warning "out of the blue."  The crash was on September 20, 2005; earnings weren't reported until October 27, 2005.  Interestingly, when earnings were released, the stock actually made a secondary low at 9.92, then rallied almost parabolically to 13.53, for a gain of 36.%.  They sold the warning...then bought the actual release of earnings.

Almost the reverse of "Buy the rumor...sell the news."  The bad news already was factored in.  They bought the earnings news, rather than sold it.

But, your point is well-taken about how perilous it can be, holding a stock through earnings.

Quote
I've seen many times when a chart looks great, getting ready to breakout and everything...just before the earnings release...so it looks like earnings are gonna be good...but earnings come the next day...and the thing takes a big hit...especially stranger when companys does sound positive on many respects and still the market "doesn;t get what it wants"...

I agree.  Earnings, or any news for that matter, is a "wild card," and anything can happen.  It's a case of when "the fundamentals trump the technicals."

Quote
I'm willing to bet that in many such charts that are close to a breakout....if only the earnings were not released close to such a breakout pattern on the chart....the breakout in fact might have occured....you know what I mean?

Yes, I do know what you mean, and that's why I say that if I'm staring at a gap down opening, I sell at the market, no questions asked.  What had looked like an upside breakout developing has turned into a breakdown.  SELL.

Quote
In other words.....when it comes to charts and earnings....one can never predict which direction the chart will go right after the earnings release...no matter how good or bad the chart looks

I have to agree with you.  Unless one is psychic.   :D

Anything can happen on news.  Where TA can help us, is that we can know whether or not the reaction to news expressed meaningfully in the chart.  Was key support violated?  Did the stock break out to the upside on volume, in response to the news?

Quote

That was my point, really.  The break back inside the pattern was the "We got problems, Houston!"  The bounce off the ascending line "looked safe," and it actually could have turned out to be safe, had the company not warned, but the over-riding factor in the case of CEM, or in any other stock that has closed back below a breakout is: "We got a problem, Houston!"  That doesn't necessarily mean a failure, but "we've been warned" when a stock does that.

Hope you get my point even though I may not hav explained it as concisely as I had wished.

You made your point very well.

Other 3SOF members have sworn off holding through earnings, too, and it isn't a bad idea at all.  I take it on a stock by stock basis, personally.

Unfortunately, that's part of learning the game.  Looking for excuses.  Pointing out how wrong the market is.  Clinging to any piece of anecdotal evidence that suggests that the stock will go right back up.

"Bear markets descend on a cushion of hope."

Sometimes, stocks recover quickly from a technical breakdown, but that isn't the norm, especially when they tank on heavy volume.

By the way, I misundersttod  you on CEM...thought earnings were actually released that caused the breakdown...didn't realize it was an unexpected earnings warnings PR.

Since I got a computer and Metastock about ten years ago, I haven't read many recent publications.  I think Alexander Elder's Trading For A Living might have been my last purchase.  Metastock has plenty of stuff to keep me busy, like that Ichimoku Kinko Hyo indictor that fascinates me so much.  That one is my favorite, I think.

I've given away most of my stock market books, but I liked:

1. Martin Pring on Market Momentum  - Martin Pring

2. Fibonacci Applications and Strategies For Traders: Unveiling The Secret of the Logarithmic Spiral -

3. Japanese Candlesticks and Charting Techniques - Steve Nisson

I think I was the first person in line at the bookstore, the morning it came out (1991)  :D

4. Technical Analysis Explained - Martin Pring

5. Profiting In Bull And Bear Markets - Stan Weinstein

I like it for its simplicity: The Four Stages of the Market.

Just a few that I liked.  Or, that I still can remember.   ::)  ???  :D

You might want to try "googling" stuff, too.  I've found a lot of very interesting reading doing that.

A mission should anyone choose to accept.  Find the outfit that sells ALTI at 4.19.  See who it is and try to figure out how many shares they have flaunted on the open market.  Thanks.  I want know who is the ALTI ax.  Then find out where they are buying.

Melf Elf and Vic,

Good job on all the dedicated and well articulated dialogue.  If we had a little face that was "applauding" I would insert one here.

Vic, you wrote:

Well, I was recently burned by CMT for the exact same reason.  I went long and very soon afterward, the earnings came out.  Well, you see the large red candle.  That we me trying my hardest to get out!  >:(   <= his face isn't mad enough to describe how I felt that morning.  Anyway, I share your feelings about holding over earnings.  I didn't know earnings were coming out for CMT at that time or else I may have bailed early.

PS, I'm fairly new posting here, how do you insert quotes???   ???

I hope the link below shows the CMT chart I was referring to.  If not, I apologize.

Jason,

On this post that you're reading right now, there's a quote tab at the upper right.  When you finish reading a post, if you want to respond to something in it, hit that quote tab.  That will open a reply page for you, as well as quote the entire post.

You can delete everything in the post, except the part that you want, by highlighting those parts with your cursor, then hitting your delete key.  Be sure to leave the top line that is in brackets: [quote author=mitchjas link=topic etc...and leave the "close quote" at the bottom of what you're quoting.  (That has the word quote in brackets with a slash).  Then type your response and hit "post" as usual.

RE: ALTI...our Ascending Triangle breakout was above 3.97-3.98.  Yesterday, ALTI rallied to 3.97 then sold off to test 3.79 support at the top of the rectangle (3.50-3.79).

We will refrain from sticking our tongues out at ALTI for finding  resistance at 3.97.  We wouldn't want to seem unsupportive of a stock that we own.

:P  :P  :P  :P  :P

I wonder if Frederick could arrange, not only faces on the toolbar, but also arms, some of which are quite good at throwing tomatoes.  Juicy ones.

ALTI <<< Splat! Splat! Splat!

The test of the top of the rectangle, at 3.79, was okay.  Yesterday's low was 3.76, and ALTI scampered out of there and closed at the upper end of the day's trading range, at 3.86.

My plan still is to have a gain on this trade, so I'll exit on any late day weakness below the top of the triangle (3.79).

The bottom of the rectangle (3.50) and the ascending line (3.49 for today) "should be" good support for anyone wanting to use that as a stop.  It's a "logical stop," and also a "double stop" (the bottom of two patterns...the Ascending Triangle and the Rectangle).  "Everybody" knows it, though, so be aware that a stock can tank fairly quickly if that kind of support breaks.

Meanwhile, we'll think positively, that the top of the rectangle (3.79) will be support.  ;)

Liquid Stick,

That's an interesting perspective, looking at the 3.72-3.74 highs of the "real bodies."

It's consistent with what some technical analysts feel, that the open and close are what is important.  Some go as far as to say that "everything in between is just noise," but I don't agree that.

Looking at the open and close certainly has some merit, though, which you've demonstated very nicely.  Applause.

I take both into consideration when looking for price fluctuations using tweezers (a japanese candlestick term).  Meaning where the trend gets pinched.  Did you see the cahrt i posted for why ALTI stopped at 4.19.?

LS

I also don't always agree with the close and open being the only items of importance.  I do believe that they carry the most weight.  However, if all we take into consideration are the open and close.  We wouldn't have hammers, or dragonflys, rickshawmen, shooting stars or gravestones.  The wicks are important, as well.  They are full of information, they speak of confusion.  If, your opponent is dazed and confused as to direction you now possess an advantage.  Typically, when there is confusion and the confusion is resolved.  You know how to respond.  ALTI broke at 3.72 last week.  I bought at 3.73 and knew it was a mover.  The ironic twist is that i discovered the 4.19 pinch on the ALTI monthly chart.  Which occured before i knew of the movement to that level.  I logged into my account and ALTI was at 4.07.  I figured i had time before it hit 4.19 and that the stock had not traded at that level.  The lo and nehold i looked at the high of the day and it had already come to pass.  Pinches can be a very valuable asset.

Sold ALTI at 3.78.

It rallied to 3.90 this morning...now back below 3.79.  I don't like the weakness, epecially with the NASDAQ up a little, so I'm not waiting for a print of 3.75.

The low so far is 3.77.  ALTI currently is BID 3.79...ASK 3.80.

thanks for clarifying MelfElf.

Even though I'm highly frustrated by the action tosay, the only reason I'm holding is because of the lack of volume....

I'm leaning towards tinking this is a declining handle formation on low volume...usually it is followed by a breakout on high volume...hoping to see just that pretty soon.

ALTI is holding up.  The low is 3.76 again, and I like the fact that a lot of other NASDAQ stocks, like TFSM, ALGN, COSI and ATML, are looking much, much  better today.

Good luck!

Liquid Stick,

Technically, I agree, but it also didn't give me enough reason to want to hold it when it acted weak this morning, and went back below 3.79, so I decided to take the profit.  Management decision.  There were stocks that I liked better.

ALTI really is playing with my emotions...I happened to see the last 1 hour of trading...so many close calls...the last 5 minutes had this thing running a few cents in a hurry...broke $3.80 to close at $3.81

volume was incredibly low indicating little buying or selling interest.

news of some sort will kick this back into motion, support still in the mid $3.7's

i know this will go back higher, but I lack patience holding stocks,  >:(  because I'm more of the trading kind  8)...max. 3 days to a week and I sell. i bought this on Thursday near closing hours will see how tomorrow holds!  :-X

good luck to those still holding... ;)

Vic,

I can relate.  I also get impatient when a stock gets sloppy like this, trading and closing for four days back below the 3.97 - 3.98 breakout.

That said, ALTI is hanging in there.  Interestingly, the Kijun-Sen (solid red line) has been at 3.77 for the past four days.  The low the past three days is 3.76.

The 13/21RSIs have come into synchronicity.  Any positive close today will give those a bounce higher, but you also want to see the buy pivot of 3.91 (a penny above yesterday's high)  then see the stock back above the 3.97-3.98 breakout.  I'll show you that next.

LS,

Yeah, it does, except one of the primary characteristics of that pattern is successively higher lows on Day 2 and Day 3, intimidating the shorts a little, having them thinking that it's all done on the downside, and that the stock is going to turn higher.  Repeating those lows of 3.76 and languishing down there most of the day didn't have the right feel to it.

Still, ALTI does look okay.  I like the fact that it hasn't closed below 3.79.  It will be fun to see how your 3.83...3.80 works out today.  Regardless, I've enjoyed your work on ALTI.  Applause.

Good luck, guys!

vol. now at 210K with price at $3.88.

It's nice sometimes to be wrong.  I was simply applying the same price pattern behavior of the last 3 days to what would happen if it were to follow down the same path today.  At the same time i said to myself if it deviates from that pattern.  Then a new pattern will emerge.  We now have a breakout of the pattern created in the last 3 days of trade.  Right now we have a 3 line strike.  Close at or above 4.03 and we have a 5 line strike.  Which increases the likelyhood of a  small gap up Monday morning with a slight pullback and then a run (ala CPST).  YOu can check the CPST pattern i through up in the LIqud Stick list.  If, we don't get a weekly open above this weeks close, I become immediately skeptical.  The best way to resolve indecision (confusion) for a long is for a gap up on the weekly.  If, it does gap up Monday morning.  Then i have to hold the remainder of the week.

kinda closed weak IMO...but overall, glad to have a green day after 4 consecutive red days (all of them, right after I bought in  >:()

Anyways...good to see RSI is trending back up...but I must say this stock's been testing my patience...I should have just set a limit sell order at a tick above $4.00 and left it there...instead, I keep thinking everytime it breaks $4.00, it's gonna go ahead to test $4.19...but thatt has not happened.

Looking for a green day Monday too, the stochastics are pretty close to turning back up again....news should give this a strong kick in the ass to propel ahead.

have a good easter everybody!  :)

Soon as the day was done and i looked at the last line.  I recognized it as an inverted hammer.  Then i searched inverted hammer and found some wierdo's site.  That stated something to the effect of inverted hammers are a sign that short covering is occuring.  So, if, one forms check to see the short interest on the stock.  So off to finance.yahoo.com and look at the short interest.  Well whoop de shit.  Not much there, but then i hit the message board and someone posted a link that stated ALTI no longer availbable to be shorted.  So, I don't know.  But, if you look at the weekly and look back several weeks ago you'll see what happened after an inverted hammer showed up there.

Given the number of smites you've received, that's understandable.  I don't know what the smites are about, but I suspect that it's about your attititude, as Vic said.

Quote
I am trying to learn you how to fish.  But, you still want me to hook your worm!

Vic wasn't asking you to hook his worm.   Vic has been doing his own due diligence.  He only made a suggestion.

QuoteJust wanted for once someone to look for themselves without need to illustrate the obvious.

Sometimes, what is obvious to one person isn't obvious to another person.  You certainly aren't in any way obligated to explain anything beyond what you want to explain, or beyond what you feel like explaining.

I think that members are wanting to "follow along" with what you are saying, and that you might be misinterpreting that as "they want you to hook their worm for them."  They only want to "be on the same page with you," so that they can understand what you and saying, and then can feedback to you, or have a discussion with you.

Quote
Or throw up some charts for me.  So, we can digress into stocks.  Not this frivolity.

Vic has thrown up some charts.  So have other members.  None of us wants this "frivolity" any more than you do.  Yes, let's focus on stocks.  We aren't competing with each other.  We're sharing information, and we're trying to help each other out.

I'd like to see all of those smites you've drawn disappear, and I think that other members would, too, if you'd be willing to recognize the fact that we only want to share with you, and that we're not asking you to do all of the work for us.

Happy Easter to you, as well. LS.

I sure would.  I especially enjoy your creative/experimental approach to your charting.  Applause in advance for the effort.

BTW, on Friday, ALTI got a bounce higher out of synchroncity, and the "buy pivot" of 3.91 got printed.  Even though ALTI eased off from 4.04, and closed a penny below the "buy pivot", at 3.90, it looks good.  I also liked the fact that Friday's "real body" bullishly engulfed Thursday's "real body."

The upper wick is tall, so I view it as maybe an "unconventional" Bullish Engulfing candlestick.

Sometimes, when a stock closes like that, just a hair below the buy pivot,  it's "champing at the bit" for a gap up opening the next session, above the prior day's high (4.04), as you suggested it might do next week.  The stock's behavior on Friday is at least supportive of that possibility.

enough of that however...and back to ALTI.

bullish engulfing is one of the strongest reversal patterns in my opinion, stronger than any hammer or doji....and i do like thrusday's action...

keep an eye on PTSC....i threw in a few comments on that board and i think monday will be a follow thru day to tell us if it has bottomed out or if there is more downside....it's currently at $1.03, down from the recent high of $2.20's.

Ishmael,

Only people who have a high tolerance for being irritated to death, watching ALTI trade above and below the 3.97-3.98 top of the Ascending Triangle for days on end, still have their hooks in this worm.

>:D  ;D  >:D

If you're long, FWIW, the Bullsih Falling Wedge target of 4.42 still is IN PLAY, and The Bullish Ascending Triangle of 4.89 went back IN PLAY at yesterday's close.

Additionally, the 13/21 RSIs had another bounce out of bullish synchronicity yesterday, and gave a "buy pivot" signal at 4.00, a penny above Tuesday's high of 3.99, both are which are slightly above the top of the Ascending Triangle at 3.97-3.98.  I'll show you that chart next.

MACD also kicked higher yesterday, from above its signal line.  Chart after the RSIs.

It's either a bad tick, or they really nailed somebody at the open, because it came back down into the 4.20s.  I hope that it's a bad tick, and that they take it off the charts, because a blg black candlestick that opened way-y up there at 4.50 isn't going to look good on the daily chart.

Alister,

ALTI got an upgrade from Maxim (never heard of them) this morning.  Scottrade shows the news at 10:18AM, but ALTI shot up before that, shortly after 10AM.

The top of the channel comes in today at 3.7105, so it would be good to see a close above that.  Volume is very good, at better than 3 times average 100 day, so far.

Basis the intraday chart, ALTI is re-testing the 3.71 breakout right now (see next post).

Good luck!

AeroVironment, Altair Nanotechnologies, Go Green Holding and Micro-Vett Announce a Successful, Multiple Fast-Charge Demonstration of an All-Electric Delivery Vehicle in Oslo, Norway
Tuesday October 9, 7:30 am ET
Medium Duty, All-Electric Transport Vehicle Travels over 300 km in a Single Day

RENO, Nev.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AeroVironment, Inc. (Nasdaq: AVAV - News), Altair Nanotechnologies Inc. 'Altairnano' (Nasdaq: ALTI - News), Micro-Vett, SPA and Go Green Holding AS, today jointly announced the successful public demonstrations of the All-Electric Fiat Doblo to government officials and potential commercial customers in Oslo, Norway. On October 2nd, half-way through an ongoing 60-day demonstration, the Micro-Vett Fiat Doblo, a regular size 5-seat station wagon vehicle, powered by a custom 18 kWh Altairnano high performance NanoSafe® battery pack, traveled 300 kilometers (186 miles) in an urban delivery circuit. The custom battery pack was fully recharged in less than ten minutes a total of three times using AeroViroments' high voltage, 125kW rated, rapid charging system. The vehicle will be driven an estimated total of 7,500 kilometers during the 60-day demonstration period, which translates to an annual equivalent use of 45,000 kilometers.

The Fiat Doblo is designed both as a commercial medium-duty transport vehicle, as well as a regular size family car. Micro-Vett has been converting standard vehicles to electric drive for the past 20 years, and today, they have a wide range of passenger and utility vehicles available for sale. Go Green expects to ship up to 20 Micro-Vett vehicles with Altairnano's 18 kWh NanoSafe® battery packs to customers in the next several months, and an additional 250 vehicles are planned for shipment in 2008. Altairnano offers a range of NanoSafe® battery packs for all-electric vehicles requiring from 10 to 35 kWh of energy storage.

"This alliance of innovative companies is a powerful combination that is committed to providing clean transportation on a global platform," said Asbjorn Slordahl, Go Green Holdings' chief executive officer. "With battery packs from Altairnano, and fast-charge infrastructure from AeroVironment, these roadway-ready, all-electric vehicles converted by Micro-Vett and distributed by Go Green are a powerful example of what happens when you combine the right technology, with the right providers, at the right time."

"This is a key step forward in demonstrating the viability of all-electric vehicles, and the fast charge infrastructure necessary to enable their practical use," said Joe Edwards, vice president and general manager of AeroVironment's Energy Technology Center. "This demonstration proves that the technology to deploy electric vehicles for everyday use is available and ready. Our PosiCharge® fast charge technology has demonstrated itself to be reliable for the daily operation of thousands of heavily used, low voltage electric industrial vehicles throughout North America and increasingly in Europe, Australia and Asia. Using PosiCharge® to support high voltage electric vehicles is a natural extension."

"This public demonstration in Norway demonstrates another all-electric vehicle platform that is powered by Altairnano's unique lithium Titanate NanoSafe battery pack product line. The NanoSafe® battery packs are safe, powerful, fully rechargeable in less than ten minutes with rapid charge systems, have long life and operate in extreme temperatures," said Alan J. Gotcher, Ph.D., Altair Nanotechnologies, Inc.'s president and chief executive officer. "With more than 1,700 electric-powered vehicles in the country, Norway is taking a proactive approach in the adoption of all-electric vehicle technology and products. Our innovative battery technology, which is capable of thousands of re-charge cycles, provides a necessary ingredient for the adoption of EVs around the globe."

"Micro-Vett has been manufacturing electric vehicles since 1987 and so we constantly follow energy accumulation systems evolution, from batteries to fuel cells," said Massimiliano Di Gioia, Micro-Vett Vice President. "Until now we've seen some developments, but Altairnano's fast charge batteries have the potential to revolutionize electric vehicles and also the automotive industry. It was very exciting to see Doblo's charge level indicator going up visibly in Oslo. With Altairnano's fast charge batteries, we can overcome the primary electric vehicle limitation because we can achieve refuelling times comparable to those of gasoline-powered vehicles."
