NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Genta Inc. (GNTA) plans to ask regulators on Thursday to approve its cancer drug, Genasense, for the treatment of a type of leukemia.

The Berkeley Heights, N.J.-based biotech firm will begin filing a new drug application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, a process that should take about six months, Dr. Raymond Warrell, Genta's chairman and chief executive, told Dow Jones Newswires.

Genta also will announce Thursday that it has applied for approval with the European Medicines Agency to market Genasense to treat metastatic melanoma.

Genasense works by inhibiting a protein manufactured by cancer cells that is thought to reduce the success of chemotherapy drugs. Genta's FDA application proposes the use of Genasense in combination with chemotherapy to treat patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, or CLL, Warrell said.

The filings are crucial for Genta, Warrell said, coming a year after an FDA panel voted not to approve Genasense for the treatment of melanoma.

"This is the beginning of a new time for us," Warrell said.

Genta thinks recently released clinical data showing success using Genasense with chemotherapy to treat patients with advanced CLL will help convince the FDA to approve the drug, he said.

Although the FDA rejected Genta's melanoma filing last year, the company has since presented further data that it hopes will persuade the European agency to approve Genasense to treat that disease. Further, if the FDA approves the drug to treat CLL, Genta likely will ask the agency to expand the drug's label to include melanoma, Warrell said.

company reported earnings of $14 million, or 15 cents a share, for the first quarter, up from its year-ago loss of $12.5 million, or 16 cents a share. Revenue jumped to $18.5 million in the latest three months from $1.7 million in the same period a year earlier. The company said the performance reflects acceleration of its recognition of deferred revenue following the termination of collaboration agreements related to its Genasense injection with Sanofi-Aventis.

Hi julia, from the closing chart it looks very bullish to me.

Hope this makes sense(sometimes I don't  ;) )
The chart shows a narrowing range(fluctuation) in the stock which translates to consolidation(the triangle) which can be looked on as an energy buildup.  Then what got my attention is it showed strength(broke the consolidation) with volume.

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J., Sept 19, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Genta Incorporated (GNTA, Trade) today announced the presentation of results from extended follow-up of patients enrolled in the Company's Phase 3 randomized trial of Genasense(R) (oblimersen sodium) Injection plus chemotherapy for patients with relapsed or refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). In addition to the previously announced significant increase in major response (the trial's primary endpoint), the new data show significantly longer remission duration and significantly lower risk of relapse. The data were presented in New York at meetings of the International World Congress on CLL and also at the First Annual Meeting of the Oligonucleotide Therapeutic Society. Genta has initiated a New Drug Application for accelerated approval of Genasense in CLL. The Company has requested a meeting with the Food and Drug Administration to discuss plans for a confirmatory post-approval study.

In the Phase 3 trial, 241 patients with relapsed or refractory CLL were randomly assigned to receive fludarabine plus cyclophosphamide (Flu/Cy) chemotherapy with or without Genasense. The trial achieved its primary endpoint, which was a statistically significant increase in the proportion of patients who achieved a complete or nodular partial response (CR/nPR) (17% vs. 7%, respectively; P=0.025).

To date, 6 of the 8 patients (75%) who achieved CR/nPR with chemotherapy alone have relapsed compared with 5 of 20 patients (25%) in the Genasense treatment group. The median duration of CR/nPR was 22 months in the chemotherapy alone group; the median has not been reached in the Genasense group (P=0.03). All CR/nPR responses have been "durable" (i.e., exceeding 6 months duration).

"Extended followup has shown that most patients treated with chemotherapy alone have relapsed, whereas the remissions achieved by adding Genasense are continuing to prove quite durable," commented Dr. Kanti Rai, the trial's Principal Investigator. "These emerging differences have translated into real clinical benefit for patients."

"These new data provide important supportive evidence of the substantial clinical benefit for patients who receive Genasense in addition to standard chemotherapy for their disease," commented Dr. Loretta Itri, President and Chief Medical Officer of Genta. "The NDA submission process remains on track for completion later this year, and we look forward to our discussion with FDA regarding our Phase 4 study proposal."

Safety

Grade 3 or Grade 4 adverse events that occurred during treatment or within 30 days from last treatment in an increased percentage of patients in the Genasense group included, but were not limited to, thrombocytopenia, nausea, and intravenous-catheter complications. Adverse events resulted in discontinuation of therapy in an equal percentage of patients in both groups. Nine patients in the Genasense group and 5 patients in the chemotherapy-alone group had adverse events that resulted in death, including two patients in the Genasense group who died from complications associated with tumor lysis and "cytokine release syndrome." Other safety information from the trial can be accessed at: http://www.genta.com/Genta/InvestorRelation/2004/press_20041206.html .

About Genasense

Genasense inhibits production of Bcl-2, a protein made by cancer cells that is thought to block chemotherapy-induced apoptosis (programmed cell death). By reducing the amount of Bcl-2 in cancer cells, Genasense may enhance the effectiveness of current anticancer treatment. Genta is pursuing a broad clinical development program with Genasense evaluating its potential to treat various forms of cancer. Genasense has received both Orphan Drug and Fast Track designations by FDA in CLL. The Company plans to seek "Accelerated Approval" for Genasense in CLL. Accelerated Approval requires the Company to conduct a confirmatory study in CLL, and Genta plans to discuss the design of this study with FDA.

About Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

CLL is the most common form of leukemia in adults. According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 8,000 patients will be diagnosed this year. More than 60,000 people in the U.S. currently have CLL. The disease arises in lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell that normally produces antibodies and serves important immune functions. Patients with CLL typically develop symptoms that may progress over a period of years, ultimately producing a generalized depression of immunity, marked increases in the size of spleen, liver and lymph nodes, and impaired production of other normal blood cells. Eventually, these problems may cause life-threatening complications, such as overwhelming infections and fatal bleeding. For more information about CLL, visit http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org .

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/051019/nyw061.html?.v=25

You can read it for yourself but the first link talks about Genta's drug that helps increase the effectiveness of radiation treatment of colon cancer.  The second link is a more detailed description of what the product does and the cancer it treats.  Colon cancer is the third most common type of cancer so any treatment that makes it easier to cause remission will be big.  This can be seen by the jump after the announcement on an announcement of a few positive tests.

Earnings on Nov. 7th (Monday)... expectations are -.09.

I got one right!  The arrow is right under the pop today.  If we get good earnings we should have a pop of 10-15%.  Check out yahoo message boards to see expectations and how good earnings have to be to get a great result.  I'll post the link in a little while for those of you who need it.

GNTA is looking attractive at these prices... Looking at the chart looks like a reversal is coming. 200 DMA is about to approach and looks like it may bounce off it. RSI is about to touch 20 looking at the charts GNTA loves to bounce off at or around 20 RSI. Comparing the MACD the last huge rally pattern looks a like.

Genta Submits New Drug Application to FDA for Its Lead Anticancer Drug Candidate; Shares Rise

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J. (AP) -- Genta Inc., a biopharmaceutical concern, said Thursday it finished filing a new drug application with Food and Drug Administration for its lead anticancer drug candidate, Genasense Injection.

The company's shares soared nearly 6 percent, or 7 cents, to $1.43 on the Nasdaq, where it has traded in a yearly range of 75 cents to $1.98.

Genta asks that Genasense, or oblimersen sodium, plus fludarabine and cyclophosphamide be used as treatment for patients with relapsed or refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia. The potentially fatal disease, which affects more than 60,000 Americans, stems from a problem in the lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell that normally produces antibodies and serves important immune functions.

The application was submitted for "fast track" and "accelerated approval," programs, designed to expedite federal review for drugs that address an unmet medical need.

If selected for priority review, Genta may receive approval within six months of the filing date.

I've got to targets set for GNTA. Will use MACD buy and sell signals. When first target of 1.65 is there I will see if MACD is still in upward bullish trend to hold but if it is going to show a curve possibly heading down then I'll sell but if it still shows an upward trend with no sign of turning then I'll hold and shoot for target of 2.00. This is my plan

Title: Re: GNTA
Post by: wrangler on January 02, 2006, 06:17:41 PM
This is just my opinoin
The new drug they are trying to get approval for has already shown to improve patients with certain types of cancer. Also as setravis has noted they are debt free which means they are doing something right. Most companys in this sector are high in debt for research only when they begin to make marketable products with FDA approval are they able to go from red to green. When conferance meeting is done on 01-04-2006 I think there will be the beginning of an uptrend that may last untill either FDA will approve or not. As long as the drug keeps getting positive results from the patients in clinical trials this stock will keep moving up and if the FDA does approve their is no telling how high it might go. I trade for the short term though and have set to targets I'm hoping for as long as one of them gets hit I'll be happy with that. Below articles are from biospace.com .

Genta Completes Marketing Authorization Application to EMEA for Approval of Genasense(R) plus Chemotherapy for Patients with Advanced Melanoma
Tuesday January 3, 8:03 am ET
Application Includes Extensive Data from Long-Term Follow-up of Patients in Large Randomized Controlled Trial

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J., Jan. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Genta Incorporated (Nasdaq: GNTA - News) announced that the Company has completed a Marketing Authorization Application (MAA) to the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) that seeks approval of Genasense® (oblimersen concentrate for solution for injection) in combination with chemotherapy for the treatment of patients with advanced malignant melanoma.

Genta expects that the dossier will be formally reviewed for validation at a meeting of the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) that is scheduled for January 23-26, 2006. Assuming validation, the initial review of the MAA would commence thereafter, and Genta would anticipate receiving consolidated questions from the Agency approximately 120 days later. The centralized licensing procedure provides a single marketing authorization that is valid in all 25 member states of the European Community. Review of the application is coordinated by the EMEA, and Spain and France have been appointed as rapporteur and co-rapporteur countries, respectively.

Genasense, Genta's lead anticancer drug, is a novel targeted therapy that blocks the production of Bcl-2, a protein that appears to be a fundamental cause of resistance to cancer treatment. By knocking down Bcl-2 in cancer cells, Genasense may enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy in patients with advanced melanoma.

"The European filing represents an important step toward our goal of advancing care for cancer patients who have significant unmet medical needs," commented Dr. Raymond P. Warrell, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Genta. "The near simultaneous submissions of regulatory filings for different indications in the U.S. and Europe are impressive accomplishments that confirm the expertise and dedication of the Genta team in advancing therapy for patients. We believe that Genasense represents a breakthrough treatment for patients, and we look forward to continued dialogue with regulatory authorities in Europe."

Conference Call to Discuss Worldwide Regulatory Filings

The Company's management will hold a conference call for investors to provide an update on regulatory and corporate activities on Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at 9:00 AM ET. The conference call can be accessed live as follows:

    US/Canada Dial-in:     (877) 634-8606   Passcode: Genta Incorporated
    International Dial-In: (706) 679-3140   Passcode: Genta Incorporated
    Live audio webcast:
     http://www.genta.com/genta/InvestorRelation/events.html.
Audio replay will be available approximately two hours after the completion of the call and will be archived for 30 days.

MAA Efficacy Data

The MAA is principally based on long-term data derived from the largest randomized controlled trial that has been conducted in patients with advanced melanoma. In this trial, which was conducted at 139 sites in 9 countries, 771 patients were randomly assigned to receive chemotherapy with dacarbazine (DTIC) alone or in combination with Genasense. The MAA is comprised of the updated final analysis of this trial, which includes data from 24-months of minimum follow-up on all patients and has demonstrated the following results based on an intent-to-treat analysis:

    Endpoint                 Genasense/DTIC            DTIC             P
    Overall response                  13.5%            7.5%          0.007
    Complete response                  2.8%            0.8%          0.03
    Durable response                   7.3%            3.6%          0.03
    Progression-free survival, median  2.6 mos.        1.6 mos.      0.0007
Overall survival, median           9.0 mos.        7.8 mos.      0.077

Prior to randomization, patients were prospectively stratified according to certain risk factors, including elevated blood levels of an enzyme known as LDH - a factor that previous studies have shown is associated with poor outcome. The updated analysis has shown that LDH was the sole stratification factor significantly associated with a treatment interaction effect. When the treatment effect was tested by LDH level, the efficacy of Genasense was significantly superior for all major efficacy outcomes in patients who had normal LDH at baseline, a group that comprised approximately two-thirds of patients in the trial (N=508). In this group, the following efficacy results were observed:

    Endpoint                 Genasense/DTIC            DTIC             P
    Overall response                  17.2%            9.3%          0.009
    Complete response                  3.4%            0.8%          0.04
    Durable response                   9.6%            4.0%          0.014
    Progression-free survival, median  3.1 mos.        1.6 mos.      0.0007
Overall survival, median          11.4 mos.        9.7 mos.      0.018

    MAA Safety Data
In the randomized trial, the most frequent serious adverse events that occurred in greater than or equal to 5% of patients were fever and disease progression (6.2% vs. 2.8%, and 5.1% vs. 4.7%, respectively, for Genasense/DTIC compared with DTIC alone). The most frequent Grade 3 or 4 adverse events that occurred in greater than or equal to 5% of patients were neutropenia (21.3% vs. 12.5%), thrombocytopenia (15.9% vs. 6.4%), leukopenia (7.5% vs. 3.9%), anemia (7.3% vs. 4.7%), and nausea (6.7% vs. 2.5%). Although there was an increase in discontinuations due to adverse events in the Genasense arm (19% vs. 11%), there was no difference in the number of fatal, treatment-emergent adverse events (i.e., events that lead to a death on study or within 30 days from last study treatment). In the MAA, these data have been supplemented by substantial additional safety data derived from patients who received Genasense in other clinical trials.

About Malignant Melanoma

Malignant melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer. Melanoma is responsible for more than 90% of all skin cancer deaths. The European Network of Cancer Registries estimates that more than 60,000 cases of melanoma are diagnosed each year. The incidence of this disease is increasing by approximately 4 percent annually in the U.S., where it is the number one cause of cancer deaths for women aged 25 to 29. Genta Files for Genasense OK in Europe
Tuesday January 3, 9:05 am ET
Genta Expects European Regulators to Begin Reviewing Genasense Application Within Month

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J. (AP) -- Biopharmaceutical company Genta Inc. said Tuesday it expects European regulators to begin reviewing a marketing application for its skin-cancer treatment later in the month.
The company said it completed the application for its Genasense cancer drug to treat advanced skin cancer, and expects the European Medicines Agency to begin validating the application at a meeting in late January.

Genta said it expects to begin receiving questions from the agency about 120 days later. Approval by the agency would apply to all 25 member states in the European Union.

Genasense acts by blocking a protein that helps cancer cells resist chemotherapy drugs.

The company filed an application with the Food and Drug Administration Dec. 29 for the drug to treat chronic lymphocytic leukemia, a cancer that attacks white blood cells.

Genta shares rose 7 cents, or 4.8 percent, to $1.53 in premarket activity.

That's correct, this thread was started first. The Stock Pick made by Ours,
on 09 May 2005. This is the thread that I have been posting my comments to since I took a postion in the stock.

When Adam started that thread of his on GNTA. It went like this.....

« on: September 20, 2005, 11:33:57 AM »
GNTA is this a buy 1.62??
Is this a buy

Instead of starting a new thread he could have place that question of his to the thread that was up and running. If traders post to the thread that already exist that keeps all our comments in one thread with lot's of info at the tip of your fingers.
I think stocks here with more that one thread should all be merged with the first thread that was started. Some have so many threads started, a lot of times I have to find the thread that I was posting my comments to. I have seen traders here post a comment about a stock. And the next day if they have something else to say about the same stock, they will start another thread with just that one comment. If all of our comments here are kept on one thread on a certain stock pick, then you can see the history of a pick all in one place. IMHO.....

Analysis of Genasense(R) Trial Confirms Major Efficacy Variables in Patients with Advanced Melanoma
Thursday February 2, 8:00 am ET
Multivariate Analysis Presented in Paris Defines Role of Prognostic Factors in Largest Randomized Trial

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Genta Incorporated (Nasdaq: GNTA - News) announced the presentation of analyses that confirmed the major efficacy variables from the Company's randomized Phase 3 trial of Genasense® (oblimersen) plus chemotherapy in patients with advanced metastatic melanoma. The data were presented in Paris, France at the 17th International Congress on Anticancer Treatment by Dr. Alexander Eggermont from the Daniel den Hoed Cancer Center, Erasmus University, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Dr. Eggermont is the current president of the European Organization on Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC).

Recent studies conducted by the EORTC and other groups have shown that elevation of serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), a routine blood test, is the most powerful predictor of poor outcome in patients with advanced melanoma. The Genasense study -- the largest randomized trial ever conducted in patients with advanced melanoma -- randomly assigned 771 patients to receive standard chemotherapy using dacarbazine with or without Genasense. Prior to randomization, patients were stratified on the basis of performance status, sites of metastatic disease, and baseline levels of LDH.

Consistent with prior studies, the multivariate analysis confirmed that each of the three stratification factors was significantly correlated with survival in the Genasense trial, whether examined alone or in a Cox multivariate model. However, LDH was the only factor that showed a statistically significant interaction with treatment. Furthermore, the analysis also showed that Genasense was significantly superior to chemotherapy alone in major efficacy variables after accounting for prognostic factors. The maximal benefit of Genasense was observed in patients without elevation in baseline LDH, a group that comprised approximately two-thirds of the study population, or more than 500 patients.

The analysis of this trial with a minimum follow-up of 24 months on all patients comprised the basis of a Marketing Authorization Application (MAA) that has been submitted to the European Medicines Agency (EMEA). A summary of safety and efficacy data from the MAA can be viewed at the Company's website: http://www.genta.com . An earlier analysis of this trial based on a minimum followup of 6 months comprised the basis of a New Drug Application in the U.S. that was withdrawn by Genta in 2004.

Clinical Benefit Analysis of Genasense plus Chemotherapy Reported from Phase 3 Trial in Patients with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
Wednesday February 15, 8:00 am ET

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J., Feb. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Genta Incorporated (Nasdaq: GNTA - News) announced the presentation of data regarding clinical benefit from the Company's randomized Phase 3 trial of chemotherapy with or without Genasense (oblimersen sodium) Injection in patients with relapsed or refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). The data were presented by Dr. Jef Jones from the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX at the Tenth Annual International Congress on Hematologic Malignancies in Whistler, British Columbia.

In this trial, 241 patients were treated with fludarabine plus cyclophosphamide (Flu/Cy) with or without Genasense. The primary endpoint of the study was to increase the proportion of patients who achieved a complete or nodular partial remission (CR/nPR). The study prospectively defined disease-related symptoms that included fever, night sweats, fatigue, abdominal discomfort or early satiety due to enlargement of liver or spleen, and impaired cosmesis or mobility due to enlarged lymph nodes. "Durable symptom- free benefit" was defined as a period of relief from disease-related symptoms that lasted a minimum of 6 months. "Complete clinical benefit", calculated in patient-months and dating from the onset of CR/nPR to relapse, was defined as the period during which patients were free of all disease, without these symptoms, and with recovered blood counts.

The trial met its primary endpoint: the addition of Genasense increased the proportion of patients who achieved CR/nPR from 7% in the Flu/Cy-only arm to 17% in the Genasense arm (P = 0.025). The duration of CR/nPR was significantly longer in patients treated with Genasense compared with patients who received Flu/Cy only (median = not reached vs. 22 months, respectively; P = 0.03).

At baseline, 83% of patients in the trial were symptomatic. Irrespective of treatment assignment, the proportion of patients who achieved durable symptom-free benefit correlated with the degree of response (CR/nPR = 94%; partial response [PR] = 59%; less than PR = 6%) (P < 0.0001 for CR/nPR vs. others). For both treatment groups, patients who achieved CR/nPR had a median of approximately 11 months longer duration of symptom relief compared with patients whose best response was PR. At last analysis, the duration of complete clinical benefit was 383+ patient-months in the Genasense group compared with 136+ months in the Flu/Cy-only group. Additional safety and efficacy information about this trial can be viewed at the Company's website: http://www.genta.com.

"The analysis from this large, prospective, randomized trial reconfirms what has been intuitively understood by oncologists and hematologists, namely that the achievement of complete remission is highly beneficial for patients with leukemia," said Dr. Loretta M. Itri, Genta's Chief Medical Officer and President, Pharmaceutical Development. "We look forward to improving on these results when we extend the use of Genasense into studies of patients with less advanced disease."

Nine patients in the Genasense group and 5 patients in the chemotherapy-alone group had adverse events that resulted in death, including two patients in the Genasense group who died from complications associated with tumor lysis and "cytokine release syndrome." Other safety information from the trial can be accessed at: http://www.genta.com/Genta/InvestorRelation/2004/press_20041206.html.

update:

Eradication of Minimal Residual Disease Reported in Patients with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Treated with Chemotherapy Plus Genasense(R)
Saturday , June 03, 2006 08:30 ET

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J., June 3, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Genta Incorporated (Nasdaq: GNTA) announced the presentation of data showing that its lead anticancer drug, Genasense(R) (oblimersen sodium) Injection, induced remissions that were associated with elimination of minimal residual disease (MRD). These results were assessed by flow cytometry when Genasense treatment was employed in combination with fludarabine plus cyclophosphamide or rituximab (Rituxan(R); Genentech/IDEC) in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Data from these studies were presented today at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in Atlanta, GA.

Flow cytometry is a laboratory method whereby small numbers of leukemia cells can be detected that would otherwise be missed by conventional techniques. Under certain circumstances, the elimination of MRD has been proposed as a surrogate marker for other measures of patient benefit.

In the Phase 3 study, 241 patients were treated with fludarabine plus cyclophosphamide (Flu/Cy) with or without Genasense. This randomized trial met its primary endpoint: the addition of Genasense increased the proportion of patients who achieved CR/nPR from 7% in the Flu/Cy-only arm to 17% in the Genasense arm (P = 0.025). With 24 months of minimum followup, the duration of CR/nPR was significantly longer in patients treated with Genasense compared with patients who received Flu/Cy-only (median = not reached vs. 22 months, respectively; P = 0.03). Flow cytometry measurements for MRD were available for 21 of 28 patients who achieved CR/nPR: 16 of 20 patients on the Genasense arm and 5 of 8 on the Flu/Cy-only arm. Data presented today showed that 69% of CR/nPR patients in the Genasense group showed no residual disease by flow cytometry compared with 40% of CR/nPR patients in the Flu/Cy-only group.

In an ongoing Phase 2 study evaluating the safety of combining Genasense with fludarabine plus rituximab (FRG), 18 of 24 patients have achieved CR/nPR or partial response, including 5 of 5 previously untreated patients and 13 of 19 previously treated patients. Preliminary results from this study indicate that 2 patients (one from each group) have also shown no evidence of MRD by flow cytometry.

Hy,

and possibly more sell-off may come if the 50 day MA can't hold according to article

http://stockonthemove.blogspot.com/2006/...

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Experts advising federal regulators will case votes next week that could make or break a small biotech specializing in cancer drugs, but the vote may not mean that much to the world's biggest drugmaker, Pfizer.

Genta Inc. (up $0.06 to $1.86, Charts), a biotech based in Berkeley Heights, N.J., is hoping that the cancer drug experts recommend its experimental leukemia treatment Genasense for approval by the Food and Drug Administration. The advisors' vote is a non-binding suggestion to the agency - not a final decision - but it is important because the FDA usually follows the advice of its advisory panels.

If the FDA experts recommend Genasense for approval on Sept. 6, and if the agency approves it in late October, Genta's stock could jump and the new product could bring in tens of millions of dollars in annual sales, according to Brian Rye, analyst for Janney Montgomery Scott.

While that's modest for a new drug, it could be crucial to a small biotech like Genta.

If Genasense is approved, it would be used in combination with chemotherapy as a treatment for a type of cancer that causes bone marrow failure and can spread. But the regulatory process has not gone smoothly for Genasense, so Rye is cautious about the biotech's prospects going forward.

"To be sure, an investment in Genta is not for the faint of heart, as all eyes are focused squarely on a single drug, Genasense," he wrote in a note earlier this month.

Rye wrote that Genta stock price is trading for less than $2 a share, making it "appropriate only for speculative accounts with a high tolerance for risk and price volatility."

The analyst rates the biotech a "neutral," even though he estimates that Genasense annual sales could exceed $100 million by 2008 and the stock price could jump to $3 a share.

While $100 million is a paltry sum for the largest drug companies, it would be a major windfall to Genta, which reported $446,000 in sales during the first half of 2006 from its single product, Ganite, an injectable drug to treat high calcium levels in the blood related to some forms of cancer.

Rye wrote that Genta "still needs to prove that it can successfully navigate the regulatory waters," noting that Genasense received an unfavorable vote from cancer drug advisers for a separate indication - treatment of malignant melanoma - in 2004.

"If these efforts are unsuccessful, the company's very ability to survive beyond the next year or so can be called into question," wrote Rye.

Ren Benjamin, analyst for Rodman & Renshaw, also rates Genta as a "neutral." His advice for investors is: "Don't get into the stock before the [panel] meeting."

Benjamin said a negative vote could drive the stock below 50 cents a share, noting that Genta was valued at $8 a share before its unfavorable vote in 2004.

"It's something that investors should watch, and watch from the sidelines, and learn from," he said in a phone interview. "If [the vote] is positive, investors may miss the initial bump up in valuation, but they will have the added confidence, and plenty of time, to ride the stock further."

A company spokesman was not immediately available to comment on Genta's viability based on the success of Genasense.

Now, I'm waiting,
But this could be the better investment of the year if the FDA is ok with genasense !!!

What are your thoughts ?

If it gets a run on Tuesday I may sell half...  the technicals do not seem to mean anything here but it is still above the double bottom support of 1.28...  if that breaks down on Tuesday may sell half as well
tough call here

strange chart for the last days.......

A tale of 3 drugs - and 1 biotech
Future of biotech Genta could be determined by vote of experts advising the FDA.
By Aaron Smith, CNNMoney.com staff writer
August 31 2006: 10:20 AM EDT

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Experts advising federal regulators will case votes next week that could make or break a small biotech specializing in cancer drugs, but the vote may not mean that much to the world's biggest drugmaker, Pfizer.

Genta Inc. (up $0.06 to $1.86, Charts), a biotech based in Berkeley Heights, N.J., is hoping that the cancer drug experts recommend its experimental leukemia treatment Genasense for approval by the Food and Drug Administration. The advisors' vote is a non-binding suggestion to the agency - not a final decision - but it is important because the FDA usually follows the advice of its advisory panels.
fda_food_drug_admin.03.gif

A company spokesman was not immediately available to comment on Genta's viability based on the success of Genasense.

ooops...down big 50%....and nothing has been decided ! but with waiting....

WASHINGTON, Sept 5 (Reuters) - U.S. Food and Drug Administration staff on Tuesday questioned the benefits of Genta Inc.'s (GNTA.O: Quote, Profile, Research) experimental drug, Genasense, for patients with a type of blood cancer.

In a summary prepared for an advisory panel that meets Wednesday, the FDA staff said 10 percent more patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia responded to chemotherapy when Genasense was added, but the difference "is of questionable clinical significance."

Adding Genasense also "appears to add to the toxicity of the treatment," the FDA staff said.

FDA Panel Votes Against Leukemia Drug
Wednesday September 6, 2:48 pm ET
FDA Panel of Cancer Drug Experts Says Leukemia Drug Shouldn't Be Approved

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A proposed leukemia drug should not receive federal approval, government advisers recommended Wednesday.
Genasense is proposed to be given along with two other medications to patients with the most common adult form of the blood cancer, according to manufacturer Genta Inc. But a Food and Drug Administration panel of cancer drug experts recommended against approval in a 7-3 vote.

The FDA isn't required to follow the advice of its advisory committees, but usually does. The Berkeley Heights, N.J. company said it expects to hear from the FDA by Oct. 29.

"We remain committed to the development of this agent and will continue working with FDA regarding their review of this application," Dr. Raymond P. Warrell Jr., Genta's chief executive officer, said in a statement.

Earlier, FDA reviewers said that more leukemia patients responded to chemotherapy when the Genasense is added to their treatment mix, but cautioned that the overall difference is of "questionable clinical significance." Adding the drug also appears to increase the toxicity of the treatment, the FDA said.

Genta previously sought FDA approval for Genasense in treating advanced melanoma. In 2004, an outside panel of FDA experts voted against recommending the drug be approved for that use. The company then withdrew that application for the drug, also known as oblimersen sodium.

You still in this one???  or got back in again?  Have been holding a bit from last week at .80, and now the placement is closed (also at .80) it looks like it is getting a bit of momentum again today.

From the breakdown last week after they made the stock offering, i see a symmetric triangle consolidation on the 30 min chart that has just broken to the upside.  The target of this triangle measures to .95.

I know this one is very risky, but I am willing to hold out for a move to 1.00.  at least for now...

Hi Setravis,everybody

Genta found a nice support between 0.70 - 0.8.

Note this in your agenda :

The Company requested a meeting with the FDA and submitted additional data analyses in support of the NDA. On October 30, 2006, the Company announced that the FDA determined that the new information constituted a major amendment to the NDA and extended the review period for ninety days to January 29, 2007

If the FDA is ok...this could be a really big gainer !

clinical benefit correlates with major objective response (GNTA) 0.65 : Co announces the presentation of data that support major objective response as a key endpoint for clinical trials in patients with relapsed or refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia. The analyses derive from the co's pivotal Phase 3 trial of chemotherapy with or without Genasense Injection, co's lead anticancer drug. Results of these analyses show that CR/nPR was associated with both durable and complete relief of CLL signs and symptoms. By contrast, the relief observed in patients who achieved only partial response was significantly inferior and less sustained. Moreover, patients who failed to achieve at least a PR derived very little benefit. Co says the investigators concluded that lack of disease progression absent achievement of a major objective response was not associated with important clinical benefit in this population. The data were presented Monday at the annual meeting of the American Society of Hematology. 8)

Genasense(R) Data in Melanoma to be Presented in Opening Session at First Worldwide Melanoma Center Meeting of the European Association of Dermato-Oncology
Wednesday September 5, 8:00 am ET
Barcelona Hosts Key Investigator Meeting for European Participants in Phase 3 AGENDA Trial Targeting Biomarker-Defined Population

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J., Sept. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Genta Incorporated (Nasdaq: GNTA - News) announced that data from the Company's Phase 3 trial of Genasense® (oblimersen sodium) plus chemotherapy would be presented at the opening session of the first Worldwide Melanoma Center Meeting organized by the European Association of Dermato-Oncology (EADO). Genta, which is a Silver Level sponsor of the EADO meeting, will also host its key investigator meeting for European participants in the Company's ongoing Phase 3 trial of Genasense in advanced melanoma. The Genasense clinical results will be presented by Dr. Claus Garbe, who is Chair of the Congress, and Professor of Dermatology and Head of the Division of Dermatooncology, Department of Dermatology, University Medical Center, Tubingen, Germany. The EADO, which is the lead international cooperative group for the current Phase 3 trial, is meeting this week in Barcelona, Spain.

The new Genasense trial, known as AGENDA, is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in which patients are randomly assigned to receive Genasense plus dacarbazine (DTIC) or DTIC alone. AGENDA is designed to confirm the safety and efficacy of Genasense when combined with DTIC in patients who have not previously received chemotherapy. The trial will accrue approximately 300 patients who have been defined using a biomarker and will be conducted at approximately 100 sites worldwide, including North America, Europe and Australia. Patient enrollment into AGENDA has been initiated.

About Genasense in Advanced Melanoma

Genasense, Genta's lead anticancer drug, is a novel targeted therapy that blocks the production of Bcl-2, a protein that appears to be a fundamental cause of cancer treatment resistance. By knocking down Bcl-2, Genasense may enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy in patients with advanced melanoma. Genasense in melanoma has Orphan Drug designations in Australia and the U.S., along with Fast Track designation in the U.S.

In its initial Phase 3 trial, Genta performed the largest randomized controlled trial that has ever been conducted in patients with advanced melanoma. In that trial, 771 patients were randomly assigned to receive chemotherapy with DTIC alone or in combination with Genasense. A scientific article that describes efficacy and safety results from this study can be accessed at: http://www.jco.org/cgi/content/abstract/JCO.2006.06.0483v1.

In that trial, patients were prospectively stratified according to levels of a blood enzyme known as LDH. Further analysis of this study showed that maximum benefit accrued to patients whose LDH biomarker did not exceed 80% of the upper limit of normal. Efficacy results in this group of 274 patients, which are the focus of the confirmatory AGENDA trial, are displayed in the table below. (The hazard ratios indicate that the addition of Genasense to DTIC was associated with a 42% reduction in the risk of disease progression and a 36% reduction in risk of death.)

Shares of Biotech Genta Climb on Trial Launch for Oral Drug to Treat Bone Disease

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Genta Inc. rose sharply Monday after the biotechnology company said it started the first clinical trial of its oral drug to treat bone disease.
Genta said the first cohort of six volunteers has been treated with single doses of G4544 without experiencing significant side effects.

G4544 is a tablet formulation of the injected drug Ganite, which Genta markets for treatment of a form of cancer-related hypercalcemia, or high blood calcium levels.

The initial clinical study of G4544 in humans will examine safety and pharmacokinetics, or how the body uses the drug.

The study also will seek to establish bioequivalence with Ganite, the company said. Bioequivalence is a regulatory requirement that the active ingredient of a drug be absorbed and metabolized in the body in about the same amount, over about the same time, as the active ingredient of a brand name drug, like Ganite.

Genta also said the Food and Drug Administration allowed an investigational new drug exemption for G4544.

The news sent shares of Genta up 8 cents, or 6.3 percent, to $1.36 in midday trading at more than quadruple their average daily volume. The stock has traded between 75 cents and $6.60 in the past year.

Genta Initiates First Clinical Trial with New Oral Drug (G4544) to Treat Bone Disease
Monday September 17, 8:05 am ET
IND Allowed by FDA for Bioequivalence Program Starting in Normal Volunteers

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Genta Inc. (Nasdaq: GNTA - News) announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has allowed the Investigational New Drug (IND) exemption that was submitted by the Company for its new drug known as G4544. In addition, Genta also announced that the first cohort of 6 normal volunteers has been treated with single doses of G4544 without experiencing significant side effects.

G4544 is a new tablet formulation that enables oral absorption of the active ingredient contained in Ganite® (gallium nitrate injection), a drug that is marketed by Genta and approved in the U.S. for treatment of cancer- related hypercalcemia that is resistant to hydration. The initial clinical study is a dose-ranging, single-dose evaluation of G4544 that will examine safety and pharmacokinetics of G4544 in human subjects. Genta is the IND Sponsor and is directing the clinical development program.

"The active ingredient in G4544 has shown a consistently high level of clinical activity across a range of skeletal diseases," said Dr. Raymond P. Warrell, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Genta. "Heretofore, an inconvenient dosing schedule has precluded broader use of the IV drug, which may now be resolved with the new oral formulation. We believe that emerging safety issues, such as osteonecrosis, that have been associated with the major competitive drug class of bisphosphonates, can be avoided with G4544. From a regulatory standpoint, we seek to establish bioequivalence to our IV drug, while conducting the additional preclinical and clinical studies to develop repeat-dose programs that may lead to rapid approval in hypercalcemia. We also foresee the potential for subsequent approvals in other diseases, such as non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, bone metastases, Paget's disease, and osteoporosis. Genta plans to manage the G4544 development program in oncology, and we intend to seek a partner for clinical programs in metabolic bone disease."

Gallium-Containing Compounds

G4544 is one of a class of gallium-containing compounds that were originally developed by the U.S. National Cancer Institute. In investigational studies, high doses of gallium nitrate demonstrated consistent antitumor activity in patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. However, experimental work by Genta personnel and others established that lower doses of gallium directly inhibited calcium release from bone, principally by decreasing bone resorption and possibly by also stimulating bone formation.

Many diseases are associated with accelerated bone loss, including osteoporosis, cancer, and Paget's disease. In some diseases, the rate of loss is slow and subtle, while in others the rate is rapid and acutely life- threatening. In osteoporosis, the most prevalent bone-losing condition, the process of bone loss extends over many years before the disease becomes evident. Conversely, in cancer-related hypercalcemia, bone loss is so rapid that it overwhelms the kidney's ability to eliminate calcium from the blood, and this condition can quickly become lethal. In patients with cancer-related hypercalcemia who were resistant to hydration, randomized double-blind trials have been conducted with Ganite compared with calcitonin and with two bisphosphonates (etidronate [Didronel®; Proctor and Gamble] and pamidronate [Aredia®; Novartis, Inc.]).

About G4544

G4544 was developed to enable extended administration of the active ingredient in Ganite, which may greatly improve patient convenience and avoid the current need for intravenous pumps or hospitalization. The initial focus of clinical studies with G4544 will be to establish its bioequivalence with the intravenous product, potentially enabling rapid regulatory approval of the oral formulation. Genta holds or has exclusively licensed the intellectual property related to G4544.

Buying here !
Stocks under $1.00...but too many times I have seen them reach $1.00 again !
Looks oversold, positive money flow increasing, MACD reversing, all looks good, shows good support at 0.80...Should go up without news, and surge on speculation of European approval

Looks to have found some good support @ the $1 area...
Where she took a nice bounce off the 13-day MA !
Now we have broke back above the 50-day MA...nice volume in this process.

Genta's Phase III melanoma study receives positive review from DMB
Tuesday , September 16, 2008 08:47ET

Sep 16, 2008 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- US-based biopharmaceutical company Genta has announced that the independent data monitoring board for Agenda, a Phase III trial of the company's lead oncology product Genasense injection, has completed its review.

During its review, the data monitoring board (DMB) evaluated safety data from the study and conducted an analysis for futility. With more than half of the initially planned number of patients now enrolled, the board recommended that the trial continue to completion of full enrollment.

Agenda is a Phase III, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial that is intended to support global registration of Genasense for patients with advanced melanoma.

The study is designed to confirm certain safety and efficacy results from Genta's prior randomized trial of Genasense combined with dacarbazine in patients identified by a biomarker who have not previously received chemotherapy. The co-primary endpoints of Agenda are progression-free survival and overall survival. A total of 300 patients are expected to enroll in Agenda.

Loretta Itri, president of pharmaceutical development at Genta, said: "We remain quite pleased with the high investigator enthusiasm for Agenda. We currently anticipate that accrual will complete in the first quarter of 2009."
