I now own an awful lot of ESLR (A lot for me, that is  ;))

I like solar.
The stock is not behaving spectacular in any way.
It's a purely emotional buy.
The only good reason I can find (justification) is institutions also showing interest:

BREAKDOWN

% of Shares Held by All Insider and 5% Owners:  2%
% of Shares Held by Institutional & Mutual Fund Owners:  48%
% of Float Held by Institutional & Mutual Fund Owners:  48%

I think they have a great product.
They are building a plant in Germany (One of the worlds biggest installers/buyers of solar-panels) together with a german company.
They have supply of raw materials secured for 1-2 years ahead...other manufacturers are not that lucky (clever?)
Alternative energy is on the move: wind, hydro, solar etc.

I can now only cross my fingers and hope... :D

Title: ESLR - One of my favorites.

Profile:

Evergreen Solar, Inc. engages in the development, manufacture, and marketing of solar power products worldwide. Its products include solar cells, panels, and systems. The company, through its proprietary String Ribbon technology, offers solar modules, which are used to generate electricity for on-grid and off-grid applications. These modules are designed for a range of solar electric power applications, including water pumping, communications, outdoor lighting, rural electrification, recreational vehicles, and stand-alone or grid-connected AC applications. The company sells its products through distributors, system integrators, and other value-added resellers. Evergreen Solar has strategic partnership with Q-Cells AG and EverQ GmbH. The company was formed in 1994 and is headquartered in Marlboro, Massachusetts.

I have owned some ESLR off and on for some years now. My belief in this company has increased, especially after their new partnership with Q-Cells in Germany, where solar-panels for producing electricity is BIG business.

Roughly you'll see a 30% increase in sales pr. year...and production costs are going down.

Now to today's item: Cramer has been messing with "my" stock! He gave it the thumbs-UP in his latest show, and just as I had planned to buy some more  ::)

ESLR is already up 10% in pre-market!

I guess I'll just have to wait untill another day to buy more... ???

Cheers.

Hmmm...nobody interested???

I sold ESLR yesterday at 9.35 - and that was too cheap.
Wanted to keep my profits.
Also...3Q is nov. 4th, and I've been burned before on earnings, lately CHK showing a great future, great earnings, lots of insiderbuys...and it behaved just awfull!

So I'll get back into ESLR after earnings, at whatever price I can get it at.

I'd also like for the frenzy to dissapear after Cramers mention of the stock! >:(

I'm not really clever enough to play his picks, I just wish he'd let "my" stocks alone.

Cheers.

You are probably right, la-onda. :D

I was very happy to pull some profit, though.

Right now I'm almost in the green again with my CHK, and ENER is doing fine today.

ENER (another favorite, as you might know) will come out with Q3 next week, and I shall step out of it momentarily also.

But I assure you: I'll be back in!

ESLR is growing rapidly, and once the factory in Germany is up and running, I think it'll be BIG.

ENER have so many different things going for it, that it will remain strong (I hope!)

By the way: DSTI is up nicely today too!

Good day for solar. 8)

Man Im hitting myself in the head.... Bought eslr back at 6.40s it started dropping sold at 6.20s and continued down to low 5s. I should of bought back in but was wary on the direction it was heading and felt would be alot of sideways trading. Now its over 11 dollars and looks like it will be in the teens within 1 month. Im going to get in possibly on the next pull back and ride it up., Once there new factory is up and running I wouldnt find it impossible for high teens by next year 2nd quater.

I like alternative energy very much (both as an investment and for environmental reasons).  I can feel good for owning it while profiting at the same time. (certainly better than owning Exxon or Lockheed Martin)

I'm currently holding DESC and considering diversifying into the sector.  So far considering ESLR, ENER and HW.

Cumulina and La-onda, you 2 seem to be the resident AE experts.  My knowledge of AE is limited.  I know that DESC primarily focuses on fuel cells.  I think Solar, nuclear, liquid coal, etc all seem to have promise.  What would u suggest as a good way to diversify for a long term investment?

congrats cumulina

Evergreen Solar (ESLR-$10.26-Buy) announced last night that it will restate its 1Q:05 and 2Q:05 quarterly statements due to certain incorrect classifications of its EverQ JV on the cash statement. While there is no P&L impact, certainly statements of "material weakness" and "control deficiencies" could weigh on the stock, although we believe our investment thesis remains intact and we would be aggressive buyers under $10.

ESLR explained that it incorrectly recorded capital contributions of about $3.8M by Q-Cells into EverQ as operating cash flows instead of investing cash flows. In addition, the company failed to record about $2M (related to a letter of credit for equipment purchased by EverQ) as restricted cash and account for the transaction as an investing cash flow. Following this discovery, the company has stated it has enhanced internal accounting reviews and procedures to ensure that information from EverQ is reported in a timely manner.

While this trivial accounting mistake is disappointing and has caused volatility, we would continue to be long-term buyers on this weakness, as we believe Evergreen remains positioned to deliver solid financial results (although numbers will be lumpy in the near term), driven by increased manufacturing throughput, future capacity expansions that deploy next-generation technologies, and additional benefits coming from normalized silicon pricing.

With a robust "sold-out" solar market that should continue to grow about 30% annually, attractive competitive positioning, significant margin leverage, and solid visibility into EPS growth, Evergreen remains a core holding for small-cap growth investors, in our opinion.

Our $15-$20 price target range is based on a multiple of 30-40x estimated 2008 EPS of $0.50.

SunPower Shines
Thursday November 17, 4:48 pm ET
By W.D. Crotty (TMFWD40)

The sun is shining brightly on the stock of solar cell manufacturer SunPower (Nasdaq: SPWR - News). The company's hot initial public offering (IPO), originally priced between $12 and $14 a stub, achieved a final IPO price of $18 a share.

Demand for the stock spilled right onto Wall Street, where stock opened at $28 a share. That's 55.6% higher than the IPO price and 100% above the high end of the initial pricing. Ultimately, the stock closed at $25.30, for a more humble 40.5% return. Not bad for a day's work.

SunPower now sports a $1.5 billion market cap, at least for the next 18 hours. What are investors getting for their money? There are nine-month revenues of $49.4 million that produced a loss of $15.2 million. There's also $138.6 million in proceeds from the stock's sale, with even more expected from the underwriters selling their overallotment of 1.155 million shares.

It blows my mind that on the same day investors traded SunPower to the moon, they've sent the stock's parent company, Cypress Semiconductor (NYSE: CY - News), down 1%. After the IPO, Cypress still owns 52 million shares and 98% of the voting rights at SunPower. At $26 a share, Cypress' stock is worth $1.35 billion; compare that to its entire market cap of $2.1 billion.

By spinning off SunPower, Cypress has unloaded a money-losing operation in need of cash. This should help Cypress with its long-term profitability, and all the IPO cash will certainly help SunPower. The newly separate company plans to triple its manufacturing capacity (using $45 million to $55 million of its IPO cash hoard), and it should have plenty of greenbacks left over to lower manufacturing costs and fund product research. The market sees all this and still sends Cypress down? Investors must have been blinded by staring at the sun.

Turning back to SunPower and its out-of-sight reception, investors should be cautious. This year has brought plenty of examples of IPOs that opened hot and fizzled in a matter of weeks. Investment bankers are paid a lot of cash to price IPOs at reasonable levels, which makes it unlikely that they missed SunPower's true valuation by such a wide margin. In fact, with competition in solar from giants like General Electric (NYSE: GE - News), BP (NYSE: BP - News), and Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE: RD - News), along with Lilliputians such as Evergreen Solar (Nasdaq: ESLR - News), it should only be a matter of time before this moon shot returns to the more terrestrial levels of its IPO pricing.

In my opinion, Cypress Semiconductor is the big winner here. Even at the IPO price, its stake in SunPower is now valued at a dazzling $936 million.

Evergreen Solar and Q-Cells Announce Partnership with REC
Monday November 28, 7:30 am ET
Leading Solar Silicon Supplier Joins EverQ Venture

MARLBORO, Massachusetts, & THALHEIM, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 28, 2005--Evergreen Solar, Inc. (Nasdaq: ESLR - News), a manufacturer of solar power products with its proprietary, low-cost String Ribbon(TM) wafer technology, and Q-Cells AG, the world's largest independent manufacturer of crystalline silicon solar cells, today announced a partnership with Renewable Energy Corporation ASA (REC), based in Hovik, Norway. The world's largest manufacturer of solar-grade silicon and multicrystalline wafers, REC is joining EverQ, a strategic partnership between Evergreen Solar and Q-Cells that is currently building a 30-megawatt solar wafer, cell and module manufacturing plant in Thalheim, Germany.

In conjunction with becoming a stakeholder in EverQ, REC has agreed to the long-term supply of solar-grade silicon to Evergreen Solar and EverQ. Under terms of the seven-year agreement, REC will initially supply Evergreen Solar with 60 metric tons and EverQ with 190 metric tons of solar-grade silicon annually. Additionally, REC will license to EverQ certain of its proprietary manufacturing technology. In exchange, REC will acquire a 15% ownership position in EverQ on a cost-of-capital basis. Following REC's initial investment, Evergreen Solar will own 64% of EverQ, Q-Cells 21% and REC 15%. The agreements contemplate that when REC establishes planned additional facilities for the production of silicon, it will offer to EverQ a second long-term supply agreement that would substantially increase REC's supply of silicon to EverQ. Should REC offer this second supply agreement, REC will be entitled to increase its ownership stake in EverQ to as much as one-third. The amended master agreement contemplates that Q-Cells will also be able to increase its ownership stake to one-third of EverQ.

"The addition of REC to the EverQ partnership is a landmark event for our joint venture and the entire solar industry," said Richard M. Feldt, President and Chief Executive Officer of Evergreen Solar. "At a time of potential silicon shortages and extremely high prices, EverQ now has an increased supply of silicon to facilitate rapid growth. Uniting REC's newly developed granular silicon with distinctive technologies from our three companies has the potential to dramatically reduce the overall cost of producing solar products and set a new worldwide standard for solar power."

Erik Thorsen, President and CEO of REC, stated, "Over the past three years, REC has made significant investments to develop a new process for making granular silicon for the PV industry. This product is an exceptionally good fit for the String Ribbon wafer manufacturing process. Because of global supply constraints, we expect the value of solar-grade silicon to remain at high levels for the next several years. We view EverQ, with Evergreen's wafer technology and Q-Cells' cell manufacturing capabilities, as an opportunity for REC to strategically leverage its future silicon expansion plans."

Anton Milner, CEO and a founder of Q-Cells, said, "REC's decision to join EverQ further validates the unique advantages that have been created by combining Evergreen Solar's String Ribbon technology with Q-Cells' high-performance solar cell manufacturing capabilities. Adding REC, a world-class silicon supplier, to the partnership will assist us in developing EverQ more rapidly and cost effectively into a world-leading supplier to the global solar marketplace. We believe EverQ's Thalheim facility will establish an ideal prototype that EverQ can replicate in emerging solar markets around the world."

The 30-megawatt Thalheim facility is currently under construction and is scheduled to commence full-scale operations by the summer of 2006. The German government is providing EverQ with grants totaling approximately $34 million to offset manufacturing facility construction costs, which are anticipated to be $75 million. The plant is expected to create between 350 and 400 new jobs in the Saxony-Anhalt region. Based on the initial success of the facility, EverQ will then evaluate the possibility of expanding the facility from 30 megawatts up to 120 megawatts of capacity.

Evergreen Solar Introduces Higher-Power Solar Panel
Thursday , January 05, 2006 07:30 ET
MARLBORO, Mass., Jan 05, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Evergreen Solar, Inc. (Nasdaq: ESLR), a manufacturer of solar power products with its proprietary, low-cost String Ribbon(TM) wafer technology, today introduced a 120-watt solar panel.
The new EC-120 is the latest in Evergreen Solar's Cedar Line(TM) of photovoltaic panels. With the same physical dimensions as the Company's current 110-watt and 115-watt panels, the new product delivers increased power from the same area. Through its patented String Ribbon technology, Evergreen Solar produces its panels using significantly less silicon than conventional production methods.
"This new Cedar Line model is our latest in a series of technology advances," said Dr. Terry Bailey, Evergreen Solar Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales. "Our EC-120 panel reduces installation costs for end users, making solar power more cost-competitive with conventional retail electricity."

Solar Power: Jim Cramer Anticipates Solar Play
Tuesday , January 10, 2006 08:51 ET
Jim Cramer suggested solar power investments if the California Public Utilities Commission decides to fund a nearly $2.85 billion solar power energy initiative. Among other things, the program will provide incentives to customer-side photovoltaics (PV) and solar thermal electric projects under 1 MW. The initiative calls for a $2.5B program for commercial and existing residential customers, and $350M for new residential building construction. While Cramer prefers ATS Automation (Canada), he also said SPWR, ESLR & STP could benefit. Other companies linked to the solar industry include DSTI, ENER, WFR & XSNX.

Hi, la-onda  :)

Yes, I'm in!

Funny you should ask, because I just got back in today at 12.14 (Stock unfortunately had Cramer's attention.  >:()

I've been out too long for my own liking, and was also hoping to get in on STP, but that ran away from me before I could get some funds scraped together.

Just wait untill ESLR announces the start-up of their German facility!  8) Then we'll really be in the green.

If I had more money, I'd be looking hard at DSTI and DESC also.

What is ENER up to? A "Cup-with-handle" pattern? Or is it too early to tell?

May all your stock stay green!  ;)

I want to get back into ESLR, just looking for an entry... Everytime I think ESLR is due for a 5-10% pull back it pops back up with a strong rally. Im seriously thinking about entering a position at 14... because im not sure if eslr will see lower then 13 again. Any opinions guys on eslr?

Evergreen Solar Announces $100 Million Sales Agreement with S.A.G. Solarstrom AG
Tuesday February 21, 7:01 am ET

MARLBORO, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 21, 2006--Evergreen Solar, Inc. (Nasdaq: ESLR - News), a manufacturer of solar power products with its proprietary, low-cost String Ribbon(TM) wafer technology, today announced that it has entered into a four-year supply contract with S.A.G. Solarstrom AG (S.A.G.), based in Freiburg, Germany. The agreement calls for Evergreen Solar to ship approximately $100 million of photovoltaic modules to S.A.G. over the next four years.
S.A.G. (Berlin: SAG - News) builds and operates solar power stations, and sells the generated energy to corporations and utility companies. S.A.G. plans to use Evergreen Solar's products to help satisfy the growing demand from those organizations. These products will be manufactured at Evergreen Solar's plant in Massachusetts and at EverQ's new 30-megawatt facility in Thalheim, Germany. EverQ is a strategic partnership between Evergreen Solar, Q-Cells AG of Germany and Renewable Energy Corporation ASA (REC) of Norway.
"This agreement with S.A.G. is in line with Evergreen Solar's plan to establish relationships with proven solar power leaders," said Richard M. Feldt, Evergreen Solar's president and chief executive officer. "Like our EverQ partners, S.A.G. has built an outstanding reputation in the marketplace, particularly in Germany. In this environment of surging demand for solar power products, we believe this will be a strong, mutually beneficial relationship for our two companies. The agreement also provides us with an opportunity to jointly seek additional ways to lower total system costs to the end-user."
Uwe Ilgemann, S.A.G.'s CEO, stated, "Evergreen Solar is emerging as a key innovator and manufacturer in the solar power market. We believe they will be a valuable long-term resource for us. We look forward to partnering with them in the years ahead to increase solar power's share of the energy market."
Title: TOP PICK new contract representing +60% sales increase
Post by: luka on February 21, 2006, 04:37:53 PM

The contract signed represents major impact on ESLR.

This contract 100 M USD in 4 years represents a turnover of 25 M USD/Year.

If you cnsider that in 2004 the sales were 24 M USD and in 2005 about 45 M USD the impact is an increase on sales of almost 60% (based on sales 2005)

realy a major contract !!!

UP trend is here to stay!

ESLR had a nice bounce at 12.53 on wednesday. After being extremely oversold I figured to play ESLR as a dead cat bounce. Bought in at 13.41 on wednesday and currently ESLR stands at 14.04 up 4% today. I think ESLR has a good chance of breaking resistance in the high 14s and heading to 15. Check out ESLR on monday see where this girl is going to go. >:D

I have been unable to follow my portfolio for some months this year ... and - looking at the chart of ESLR I missed out on some good trades!

Up to over $17  :o
Down to below $13  :o

I'm still in the green though (in at 12.14) and happy to see that it is climbing again.
And I'm holding... ;D

I'll add charts...

As solar power is a big interest of mine, I keep an eye on them...or at least some of them.

DSTI, ESLR and ENER have been around for a while, STP and SPWR has only been traded since late last year.

Maybe the attatched chart could interest some of you?

cumulina,

I just finished looking at ESLR and was going to do a search, and found your post right at the top of the page, 8 minutes ahead of me!  Weird, huh!?

ESLR completed a Double Top on March 20, putting 12.44 IN PLAY.  Wednesday's low was 12.53.

On the way to the target, ESLR broke decisively below a H&S Toip on April 11.  It's now back for a re-test of the broken neckline.

Former support right here at the neckline "should be" resistance now.

9.96 is IN PLAY as long as ESLR is below the neckline of the H&S Top.  It closed above it by a few cents, so the target is ON HOLD unless/until ESLR closes back below the neckline.

If ESLR can close above the 50DMA and the down trendline off the top (blue line), that would look better, but right now the chart looks bearish.  Just my two cents.  Good luck!

Monday is really going to be a big day to decide where this stock will go. Will it break thru the 50DMA or will it drop more or linger around in the 13s-14s. I have a feeling its going to try to break thru the 50DMA on monday hopefully its sucessful.

nullzero,

Yes, that would be a big plus, if ESLR can stay above the neckline, then get above its 50DMA and the down trendline resistance (blue line on my chart above).  It doesn't have to be on Monday, but soon.

:) :D

ESLR reports earnings on April 26.  If earnings were coming out Monday morning, this chart, with the stock sitting at a re-test of the neckline after a H&S Top breakdown,  looks poised to get whacked to the downside.

Some 3SOF members have sworn off holding stocks through earnings completely, given the pounding that they can receive if the market doesn't like it.  I don't blame them at all.   I take it on a stock by stock basis.   ESLR is one that I definitely would have sold on Friday, if earnings were being reported on Monday, just based on G.P.s (general principles).  The chart looks too dangerous.

"Discretion is the better part of valor."  ;)

ESLR needs to show some muscle and rally back into and through the right shoulder because former support (the neckline) "should be" resistance .

"Sell, or sell short, at known resistance," and we're right there at resistance, at Friday's close.

In addition to the H&S Top, we can see "at a glance" on the Ichimoku Kinko Hyo chart that "the table of balance" has shifted.  The Kumo (Cloud) is the vertical green lines.  It offers support or resistance.

We can see "at a glance" (it's a quick eyeball thing) that the Cloud (Kumo) has been below prices, offering support, since ESLR broke out of a Symmetrical Triangle in August, 2005.

When ESLR made a low of 9.95 near the bottom of the Kumo (Cloud) in December, 2005, ESLR took off again to the upside. (The H&S Top, incidently, put Target: 9.96 IN PLAY)

The Kumo (Cloud), however, didn't offer support on the H&S Top breakdown last week, and it's now above the stock, representing resistance.  We hear the expression "it represents an overhang on the market."  The Kumo (Cloud) can act very much like that.

Stocks have a much easier time rallying, like ESLR did coming out of the Symmetrical Triangle breakout in August, 2005, when there's no "overhang" on the stock.  ESLR was "soaring above the cloud (Kumo)," so to speak.  That no longer is the case.

That doesn't mean that ESLR can't rally through the Kumo (Cloud), of course.  It just means that we can see "at a glance" that the Kumo (Cloud) now represents some technical difficulty for the stock.

Kumo (Cloud) resistance currently is 14.675-15.77.

Good to see your charts and comments, Melf Elf.

I'm flipping coins to see if I should sell or hold - It might be a "sell" as I've never gained anything by holding a stock over earnings.

BUT: The new factory in Germany is beginning to produce solarpanels now, and there is no problems with supplies of silicon... soooo - It might be a "hold" also! This could be the time where the stock just took off, leaving me behind.... ???

I guess I'll flip some more coins! ;D

Glad to hear your views on this.

Cheers.

I don't see much chance of that, but I always can be wrong.

As far as the fundamentals that you mentioned are concerned, that "good news" very likely is more than priced into the stock.  The reason that I say that, is the fact that ESLR has rallied 800% in less than two years, but over the past five years, they've reported a loss every quarter.

That's an incredible rally, "betting on the come," meaning that investors have been willing to pay as much as 800% more for the stock than it was worth less than two years ago, predicated on the idea that  "someday" there will be earnings.

"We've already paid for good earnings.  What have you done for me lately?"

That's where the "counterintuitive" factor in the marketplace comes in.  Why do stocks sell off on good earnings?  Because stocks rally in anticipation of good earnings, and when the good news comes out, that good news already has been priced into the stock.   In that sense, it really isn't as counterintuitive as it might first appear to be.  The market is a discounting mechanism, generally said to anticipate about six months out.  ESLR has been anticipating for nigh on two years.

"Buy the rumor/anticipation of good earnings....Sell the good news."

April 26, ESLR is expected to report another loss of $0.14.  Let's say that the company reports much better than expected earnings...let's say, a break even quarter, beating The Street estimate by a wide margin.  That would be great news!

But, here's how that often plays out:

1, The stock gets called higher, and might even rally that day, and the next day.  But, then "reality" sets in.

2. The stock has rallied 800%, as I mentioned, as the "reality" is that, even though earnings might come out much better than expected, the company still hasn't reported a gain in any quarter these last five years.   In other words, shareholders already have paid for a great quarter, rallying the stock this much on no earnings.

The stock, in that sense, is "ahead of itself."

For the year ending December, 2007 the estimates of 11 analysts are all over the board, from a low of a loss of $0.17 to a high of $0.43.  The average is $0.02.  Not so great in terms of where the current price is, if ESLR reports only the average of $0.02 for the year in December, 2007.

3. The reality of the technicals often "kick in," and the technicals could trump any good fundamentals with a 3-month Bearish H&S top IN PLAY.   >:(

Good luck with whatever you decide, cumulina!  ;)

That down trendline came in today at 14.505.

The Cramer "BOOYAH gap" this morning was at 14.40.  I'd like to see a close near there, for a Bearish Doji Star below the down trendline (the blue one, again, at the top of this page)

ESLR currently is BID 14.42...ASK 14.44

nullzero,

ESLR's 50DMA was at 14.88 yesterday.  14.88 was a little double top today, but ESLR just broke through it, so you're probably right about 15.00.  I would peg next resistance at 15.05 - 15.25.

15.25 was the April 6 high, prior to the drop to 12.53 on April 12.

ESLR currently is BID 14.88...ASK 14.89, re-testing the 50DMA.

If ESLR can take out the top of the Kumo (Cloud), currently at 15.76, and the high of the Right Shoulder of the H&S top (15.79), I'll have to concede, and cover my short.

Risk: a loss of about 9% from my entry short at 14.48.

You're probably right on both of those.  Applause.

Sometimes the fundamentals trump the technicals, and this looks to be one of those cases, even though its unusual for a stock to break the neckline of a H&S top, like ESLR did, and then go up and take out the Right Shoulder (which is 15.79, in this case).

It happens, though, and that's why we use stops.  ;)

I thought about covering yesterday's 14.91 close, above the 50DMA, but decided to "play it out," to to the Right Shoulder (15.79).  Covering yesterday turns out to have been a good play, but we have to make choices without the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, don't we?

I'm always half-tempted to abandon a trade when I'm this close to being stopped out, but many times I've done that, and the trade would have worked out, if I had left it alone.

It sure doesn't look like this trade is going to work out, but I planned my trade...so, I'll trade my play.  Stop: above 15.79.  A 9% loss is acceptable.

nullzero,

If ESLR takes out this right shoulder, and it sure looks like it's going to (the high so far is just a hair below 15.79, at 15.75), chances look very good that it will go back to the high.

Then, if ESLR can take out the high of the Head, it could go a lot higher.  I don't see that real often, but it happens.

GIGM is a great example of that, and its H&S top was much smaller than the one in ESLR.

GIGM broke below a H&S top, then put in a "double neckline" at 3.90.  It quickly went back above the first neckline, so the downside target went ON HOLD, like ESLR, when it closed back above its neckline last Thursday. which I mistakenly thought was a bull trap.

Look how GIGM "strung it out" for awhile, back above the neckline, then it took out the Right Shoulder (4.96) on a gap up on March 20, successfully re-tested the 4.96 on March 22 (the low was 4.97).  Then it gapped up again, above the high of the Head!

When a stock does that, you can take the target measurement for the H&S Top (math is on the chart), and add it to the top of the Head for your target.

GIGM printed 7.30 this morning, just shy of the target.

Kinda kewl, huh?  8)

Now, if only I had been watching GIGM when it did that!   ;D  >:D

I might go back into ESLR today, alot of support in the high 14s it might bounce off again and head back into the 15s for a nice gain. A close above 15 would give me good confidence ESLR wants to go higher. Watching ESLR closely it seems little bearish atm... However for the long term outlook I can see ESLR at 20, with rising gas prices and more driving over the summer this is going to give a big boost in solar stocks. Not to mention ESLR will release PR soon when there new plant is fully opened and producing solar panels. 3-6 Month outlook looks good.

STP down -8% or so
ENER down about -5%

Solar energy is having a sell off today by big money. This pullback doesnt have anything to do with ESLR fundamentals or news about ESLR. This is a big signal to buy when the big money stops there sell off and a bottom is in.

nullzero,

So far, ESLR has bottomed within a penny of the Tuesday low, prior to the big run-up over 16.00.  If that holds, your rally looks good.

Volume was heavy on today's spikes down, though, and the stock has retraced two days of rally in half a day (this morning).

If 14.55 - 14.56 breaks, ESLR likely will fill the Cramer BOOYAH gap from Tuesday morning.

Good luck!

So far ESLR is holding up in the 14.90-15.00. Would love to see a strong push thru the resistance in the 15.00-15.04 area

Trading today is a little slow seems to be coasting alone in thg 14.90s-15.00s. Uptrend looks good to continue on monday.

EDIT: Just doubled my position bought 1000shrs at 15.05

I think a short term target of 16 is reasonable.

ESLR not looking good strong sell off after earnings release. Down over -6%, Watch ESLR closely next couple of days might be a good chance for a quick profit once it bottoms. I think the long outlook looks bad atm though. But you can make a quick profit on bounce I think. There is some strong support at 14.

nullzero,

You really had a nice entry and exit.  Applause.

ESLR put in a big reversal candle this morning, on heavy volume, and it just broke below last Thursday's 14.55 low near the close.  The preliminary close is 14.54.

Thanks melf, Im still new to the stock market been trading since july of 05 but seem to be doing good :). 3stocksonfire msg boards have been extremely helpful on learning more on trading and talking to other traders. On the ESLR reversal it looks like you nailed it on the head maybe a good time to get a short position; However I think there is still a chance to make some decent gains on the upside with catching some bounces on the way down. Im going to be watching ESLR like a hawk to see if there is some prime entry points.

Man Melf you seemed to have had bad luck with timming on ESLR...  The sell off on earnings just confirmed that it was on a downtrend.

nullzero,

Yeah, I was a couple days early.  ESLR already had broken the H&S Top when I shorted it.  I didn't think they'd be able to squeeze me on a takeout of the Right Shoulder, figuring there would be nervousness about being long ahead of earnings, but they did.

Curses!  Rotten devils.  ;D  >:D

any thought Melf on a good short target?

The H&S Top puts roughly 10.50 IN PLAY, but I wouldn't short into the hole here.

It's down 23.7% off the Bull Trap high of 16.25, so a big percentage of the gain on the short side already has been made.  In fact, I'd be covering some on the return to the 12.53 low if my short had worked out.

As I'm sitting with some pretty expensive ESLR right now, that little glimps of info was very welcome indeed.

I really can't get into my head why ESLR is being traded in this pricerange, while SPWR and STP is traded so much higher?  ???
Sure - there are many differences between the 3, but with ESLR having their supply of silicon secured till end of 07, the new facility in Germany beginning production, - I would imagine people fighting for the shares!

Evergreen Solar Stock Rises on New Joint Venture Partner, Analyst Upgrade

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of solar-power product maker Evergreen Solar Inc. rose in premarket trading Tuesday after the company said its EverQ joint venture has obtained enough supply materials to boost production capacity tenfold and an analyst encouraged by the news upgraded the stock.

Shares of the Marlboro, Mass.-based company gained 62 cents, or 5.5 percent, to $11.91 in premarket trading on the INET electronic exchange. Shares closed at $11.29 Monday on the Nasdaq.

After the close Monday, Evergreen Solar said Renewable Energy Corp. of Norway will supply EverQ with 7,400 metric tons of granular polysilicon over seven years, and will become a partner in the EverQ joint venture in exchange.

EverQ's plant in Thalheim, Germany, which produces solar panels, is expected to ramp production capacity to 300 megawatts by 2009, from 30 megawatts, thanks to the increased polysilicon supply.

ThinkEquity Partners analyst David Edwards upgraded his rating on the company's stock to "Accumulate" from "Source of Funds" and said the announced changes facilitate more rapid expansion of the EverQ joint venture than previously expected.

"Based on our increased confidence in the company's production ramp and the recent pullback in the stock, we are upgraded our rating," Edwards said in a client note.

EverGreen Solar Shares Rise As Analyst Upgrades Stock on Recent Silicon Supply Agreement

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of EverGreen Solar Inc., which manufactures solar cells, rose before the bell Thursday, as an analyst upgraded the stock.

Shares of Evergreen Solar gained 38 cents, or 3 percent, to $12.80 in premarket electronic trading. In a 52-week period, the stock has traded from $5.73 to $17.50. Shares of the company closed Wednesday at $12.42 on the Nasdaq.

Thomas Weisel Partners upgraded the stock on Wednesday to "Outperform" from "Peer Perform," encouraged by the company's secure silicon supply.

"We believe EverGreen Solar's recent agreement for silicon supply through 2014 removes a key uncertainty and provides greater visibility into our 2007 revenue forecast," analyst Kevin Monroe said in a client note.

On Monday, the solar cell manufacturer announced Norway's Renewable Energy Corp. agreed to supply its EverQ joint venture with 7,400 metric tons of granular polysilicon over seven years, beginning in 2008. Silicon is used to make solar cells.

nullzero,

I just looked at the ESLR chart for the first time in a few weeks and noticed that it got to within FOUR CENTS of the H&S Top target of 9.96 that was IN PLAY.

Salt to my wounds.   >:(  ;D  >:D

I still think that covering the short squeeze above the Right Shoulder was the right play.  Those can get ugly on the upside.  But, I shouldn't have been shy about shorting that second break of the neckline.  It was good for a 30% gain.

Coulda...shoulda...woulda...

I basically had it right about the H&S Top and the anticipation of "sell the news" on earnings.  It sold off a total of 38%.  But, I LOST 8 or 9% in the short squeeze!

Drat!  :(

The market keeps me humble, though.  ;D  >:D

Yesterday, the 34/55 RSIs came into Synchronicity, so a print today of 13.11, a penny above yesterday's high of 13.10, is a "buy pivot."

13.11 just printed.

A print of 13.21 would be a technical breakout of the Ascending Triangle (posted above).

Evergreen Solar "underperform," target price reduced

Wednesday, August 09, 2006 5:55:39 AM ET
RBC Capital Markets

NEW YORK, August 9 (newratings.com) - Analysts at RBC Capital Markets reiterate their "underperform" rating on Evergreen Solar Inc (ESLR.NAS). The target price has been reduced from $11 to $8.

In a research note published yesterday, the analysts mention that the company's total product gross margin is expected to decline to under 10% by the end of 2007. The analysts express their concern regarding Evergreen Solar's low-efficiency product leading to price weakness and higher total costs as compared to standard solar cells. The impact of silicon costs on the company's margins and restricted management transparency are likely to adversely affect Evergreen Solar's share price over the forthcoming 12 months, RBC Capital Markets adds.

Oliver,

If ESLR only trades sideways, MACD likely will cross above its signal line.  As soon as today.  Viewing that signal within the context of how the chart itself looks, would we want to take that MACD crossover as a buy signal?

Hi,

Yesterday a Black Spinning Top was formed. This represents complete indecision between the bulls and the bears. The end of the pullback ?

close at 10.13
target at 8.05
stop loss at 10.20

Reward/Risk ratio of  26.15 / 0.69 = 37.89..EXCEPTIONNAL  :D I we are wrong, it is not too hard for our portofolio but if we are in the good way, BINGO

ESLR represents my philosophy :
1. Determine major trend : BEARISH for Nasdaq
2. Have a look on minor trend : END of pullback
3. Select BEARISH stocks with low risk and good potential profit

ESLR failed at 10.42 last Friday on a Bearish Inverted Doji Star Hangman, within three cents of the bottom of the broken channel (pattern in purple), which came in at 10.4513.

It's currently at 9.49, down 9% from that failure at resistance.

The 7.99 target (bottom of the Bearish Rising Wedge) from the September 6 break of the pattern MADE yesterday, within one penny.  The low was 8.00 even.

ESLR has got a chance of a "W-Bottom" here, with the 7.99 - 8.00 lows in place, but 7.51 still is IN PLAY from the break of the Bearish Rising Wedge, and it's got momentum to the downside, closing near its low of the day and the week.

cumulina,

Good example of why I said on Friday in Melf's workshop, when ESLR was at 8.06, "Don't step over dollars to pick up dimes."

The 7.99 target MADE, and with ESLR down more than 50% since the Bull Trap high of 16.25 in April, it's a bit much for the shorts not to cover.  I suspect that a lot of yesterday's good volume was some short-covering by those who 'stayed too long at the fair" in their short positions.

If I remember correctly, yesterday's Bullish Engulging pattern also is one of Erik Hadik's Bullish 2-Close Reversals (TM): The stock makes a new low (the 7.90 low, yesterday), then rallies and closes above the prior two days' closes.  And, as you say, cumulina, the volume was good.

Quote from: Melf Elf on September 23, 2006, 04:30:44 AM

The lows are 7.99 and 7.90, but the "W-Bottom" still is a possibility.  It needs to take out 10.42.

Basis the Ichimoku Kinko Hyo chart, the Kumo (Cloud) is overhead resistance, at 9.25 - 10.75, and the 10.00 - 10.25 trendline (purple) that was resistance on the last rally attempt also comes in near the top of the Kumo (Cloud), so ESLR has got some work to do, to get through all of that.

Yesterday was a good start, though, with both the nice candle and the good volume.  We'll see if it's got legs.

Good luck, cumulina!

I suspect that a lot of yesterday's good volume was some short-covering by those who 'stayed too long at the fair" in their short positions.

The rally off 7.90 ended at 8.80, five cents above last support, at 8.75, which was the bottom of a Bear Flag/Bearish Rising Wedge.

"Former support 'should' act as resistance."  It did.

Quote
Yesterday was a good start, though, with both the nice candle and the good volume.  We'll see if it's got legs.

The return to today's low of 8.09 suggests that the rally to 8.80 was a short squeeze and a "momo" driven rally.

ESLR needs to hold the 7.90 - 7.99 "W"-bottom, then take out 8.75 - 8.80 resistance.

nullz,

Granted, ESLR certainly looks cheap in comparison to where it was at 16.00+ at the Bull Trap fakeout in April, but Tuesday's rally, then failure at DOUBLE resistance, doesn't look good.  And, we know that "cheap can get cheaper."

The bottom of the last Bear Flag was 8.75.

The down trendline (black) off the 10.42 high came in on Tuesday at 8.85.

Tuesday's high: 8.80 , smack in the middle of DOUBLE resistance.  >:(

So, what we've got is a stock that:

1. Is in a bearish trend

2. Failed it's first rally attempt off a possible "W"-Bottom at DOUBLE resistance.

3. Still has 7.51 IN PLAY

ESLR needs to take out 8.80, which also would take out the down trendline (black), and start to attack resistance.  Otherwise, it's in danger of falling of its own weigh, like FPP did this summer, since the path of least resistance is down.

I'll show you the FPP chart next, to illustrate my point.

nullz,

After breaking below a double bottom at 6.75, in May, FPP had a chance of a "W"-Bottom, at 4.80 - 4.81.  It's base was a little broader than the one now, in ESLR.

On it's first rally attempt, FPP failed at DOUBLE resistance: 6.04, and the 50DMA.

FPP now is at 2.69.  :(

You see why I say that ESLR needs to take out that 8.80 failure high, at DOUBLE resistance.

The 8.80 high is data point #3 on the down trendline, validating it as resistance.  Today's rally above it is a positive, and volume is decent.  A print of 8.81 would be a "higher high," and would another postive.

ESLR rallied only to 8.75 on the intraday trendline breakout (chart above). 8.75 was the bottom of the last Bear Flag, on September 12.  Selling came in on Friday right there, at resistance.

Follow-thru selling on the failure at 8.75 - 8.80 resistance, back to the Double Bottom, at 7.99 -7.90.

Triple bottoms in a bear trend are tenuous: "Three times, and through."  The technicals look weak (see MACD chart next post).  Bulls need to knock out that 8.75 - 8.80 resistance to get out of Harm's Way.

That proved to be the case this morning.  The Triple bottom broke just after the open, and the 7.51 target MADE, within six cents.

The first rally attempt off the 7.57 low, back to the Triple Bottom at 7.99...7.90...7.97 failed at 7.97.  Everything above the Triple Bottom is now resistance.   :P

Bulls could do with a Bullish Hammer/Bullish Doji Star today.

Thanks, Melf.

I bailed out of ESLR again.  :(

I'm holding on to some really bad loosers right now, and I don't need another!

Perhaps I should quit trading all together and go back to knitting sweaters!  ::)

Not quite as exciting, though...

I have this funny feeling that the market (especially energy and precious metals) are being manipulated in some way, but I'm not smart enough to see how it's done.
I'll be really, REALLY curious to see what happens around mid-november...

Now I'm down to only 4 different stock:

FPP :P
CHK ???

HDY >:D - my lottery ticket...

Good luck, all.

cumulina,

Applause for your decision.  Even if yesterday was a Bullish Hamme,r and even if ESLR rockets higher from here, over time, I think it's a good idea to sell a break of a triple bottom in a bear market.

For example, GV broke key support at 1.25 (it was a QUINTUPLE bottom!), rallied to 1.40, but now is at 0.93, down 25%, just from the break of 1.25.

Good for you!  If a trading plan goes wrong, dump it and take a small loss.

GG broke below an Ascending Triangle on August 31 on the announcement of the deal with GLG.  It re-tested the breakdown and failed right at the trendline, MADE the 24.07 target, then MADE the 20.85 target this morning.

Hopefully, you'll get a bounce.  Good luck!

ESLR rallied back to down trendline resistance, then the 7.51 target MADE exactly   this morning. That's the low so far.

Kinda fun when a number hits like that.  8)

Thanks for that news, Oliver.

ESLR rallied right to the top of the Falling Wedge (the black line coming off the April Bull Trap Fakeout), which also was the bottom of Kumo (Cloud) resistance, then the selloff began from the 9.80 intraday high.

More good news on October 18: Citigroup UPGRADED it to Buy.

The result was a "Gap To Crap" opening from 9.14 to 9.55, smack on resistance at the top of the Falling Wedge, and that was the exact high on the day.  The stock has been selling off since.

ESLR has come back to its 50DMA (8.83), so that could offer support here.  Technically, a breakout above the Falling Wedge "should" get ESLR back to the top of the last Bearish Rising Wedge, at 10.42, then possibly higher.

What would look better, though, is for the stock to go back down and fill the 8.21-8.30 gap from last Friday, or at least to the 8 and 22-days (solid green and solid red lines) then take out the top of the Falling Wedge.

The fact that our last downside target of 7.51 MADE suggests that the low could be in, at 7.27.  Targets don't always get MADE, but when one still is outstanding, it's a threat.  Those are out of the way now.

That 7.27 low "almost" was a 3-day Bullish Morning Star, too.  The third day's white candle wa shy of making it half way through the first day's black candle by only three cents.  That's another suggestion that ESLR might have put in a low.

The 34/55 RSIs also are acting well.  I'll show you that chart next.

Title: Re: ESLR - One of my favorites.
Post by: Melf Elf on October 20, 2006, 03:56:59 AM
For perspective, we can see that last winter, the 34/55 RSIs broke down from a Double Top.  After that, the stock rallied back above the broken neckline, and also rallied above the Right Shoulder, where I got caught in a short squeeze and had to cover for a loss.  :P

Notice that on that rally, however,  all the 34/55RSIs managed to do, was to come into Bearish Synchronicity (the 34 went up and back-kissed the 55), then it gave a sell signal by failing there.

And, speaking of failing...I failed to re-enter short, which would have been a great trade.  :P

From then on, this indicator has remained bearish, with a couple of little upside fakeouts along the way (just noise).

In the current time-frame, the 34/55RSIs not only have Double Bottomed, they've broken out to the upside, and the 34RSI has turned Bullish, by thrusting above its shadow, the 55RSI.

Just as it took awhile for the top to play out after this indicator broke down from the Double Top (we had to go through the short-squeezing rally above the Right Shoulder in the chart, into April earnings), this could take awhile to play out, as well.

For now, this is indicating Bullish.

heads up on ESLR - yesterday produced a nice hammer reversal candle, very nearly filling the recent gap (pre-gap high of 8.30, yesterdays low 8.34).  Could rally to test 9.50 level again from here (also convergence with Melf's longer term descending trendline).  Might not be a bad trade with a stop just below 8.30.

Good trading all

About Evergreen Solar, Inc.
Evergreen Solar, Inc. develops, manufactures and markets solar power products using proprietary, low-cost manufacturing technologies. The Company's patented crystalline silicon technology, known as String Ribbon, uses significantly less silicon than conventional approaches. Evergreen Solar's products provide reliable and environmentally clean electric power for residential and commercial applications globally. For more information about the
During the third quarter of 2006:
•   Product revenues increased 227 percent to $36.2 million from $11.1 million in the third quarter of 2005, with sales of product manufactured at the first EverQ factory - EverQ-1 - in Germany contributing approximately $25.4 million of the total revenue and over 22 percent gross margin, including 31 percent gross margin for the month of September.
•   EverQ-1 ramped to full production capacity in the third quarter. As a result, EverQ achieved profitability for the third quarter of approximately $2.3 million.
•   EverQ's second factory - EverQ-2 - broke ground in the quarter and is on track to begin production in the second quarter of 2007, and should reach full capacity by the end of 2007.
"Evergreen Solar continued to execute on all major initiatives in the third quarter," said Richard M. Feldt, President and Chief Executive Officer. "We completed the ramp to full production at the first EverQ factory one quarter ahead of schedule - progressing from groundbreaking to full capacity and profitability in 15 months. We finalized the long-term polysilicon supply, license and technology transfer agreements related to EverQ's partnership, subject to the receipt of regulatory approval. These agreements strengthen our ability to leverage the advantages of our String Ribbon platform. Reflecting the partners' confidence in our String Ribbon technology, we broke ground for the second EverQ factory well before executing the agreements for expanding EverQ." "In Marlboro, we made substantial progress on our Quad Ribbon furnace development to the point where we believe it is likely that the next EverQ expansion - EverQ-3 - will be designed around that new four-ribbon furnace. Additionally, we successfully introduced in Marlboro a new cell fabrication process that increases cell efficiency to just over 14.5 percent, which brings us very close to the industry median." "Third-quarter EverQ revenues exceeded our expectations as we quickly brought the full facility online," Feldt said. "In the fourth quarter, we will be converting the entire EverQ factory to thin wafer production. We believe the combination of this conversion with other manufacturing enhancements will enable us to improve our silicon productivity to less than six grams per watt by year end."
Third-Quarter 2006 Financial Results
Product revenues increased 227 percent to $36.2 million from $11.1 million in the third quarter of 2005, with sales of product manufactured at the first EverQ facility in Germany contributing approximately $25.4 million of the total revenue. Gross margin for the third quarter was 15.7 percent, compared with 10.4 percent for the third quarter a year ago and 4.1 percent for the second quarter of 2006. The increase in product gross margin was expected and primarily resulted from the incremental volume in EverQ production and sales. Net loss attributable to common stockholders for the third quarter of 2006 was $5.6 million, or $0.08 per share. This figure includes the write-off of manufacturing equipment obsoleted by the implementation of new technology at Marlboro amounting to approximately $550,000. This compares with a net loss of $4.6 million, or $0.07 per share, for the third quarter of 2005 and a net loss of $7.5 million, or $0.11 per share, for the second quarter of 2006. Evergreen Solar recorded equity-based compensation expenses of approximately $1.1 million during the third quarter of 2006.
Business Outlook
"Through the EverQ partnership, we have captured the initial promise of our String Ribbon technology and demonstrated that it is exportable, scalable and profitable - at 30MW," Feldt said. "As a result of our accomplishments to date, we have created a clear path to grow the EverQ business to roughly 10 times its current size, generating 300MW of solar production by 2010. Based on our technological capabilities and additional growth opportunities, we believe Evergreen Solar is strongly positioned to be in the forefront of helping the solar industry achieve economic parity with retail grid electricity."
2006 Guidance and EverQ Accounting Clarification
With the signing of the EverQ partnership agreements, and after receipt of German regulatory approval, Evergreen Solar, Q-Cells and REC will become equal partners in EverQ. As a result, all three partners will share equally in the net income generated by the partnership, and Evergreen Solar will adopt the equity method of accounting for its share of EverQ results. Evergreen Solar will continue to market and sell all modules manufactured by EverQ under the Evergreen Solar brand, as well as manage customer relationships and contracts. However, the Company will no longer report gross revenue or cost of goods sold resulting from the sale of EverQ's module production. Despite this change in accounting for product revenue, there will be no change in Evergreen Solar's economic value realized from the EverQ partnership - the Company will still report one-third of EverQ's profit. Evergreen Solar anticipates quarterly revenue from product manufactured at its Marlboro facility to continue in the $10 to $12 million range for the foreseeable future including the fourth quarter of 2006. The Company expects EverQ's fourth-quarter revenue to be in the $20 to $25 million range. Gross margin at Evergreen Solar's Marlboro facility will likely be in the range of 5 to 15 percent for the foreseeable future, as ongoing development of new technology initiatives in Marlboro will continue to consume capacity and limit gross margins. However, actual gross margins in Marlboro could vary widely from this range depending on the timing and extent of the deployment of new technology initiatives. For the fourth quarter of 2006, EverQ gross margin is expected to be sequentially flat compared with the third quarter of 2006, despite costs associated with the complete conversion to the thin ribbon platform, as well as other near-term technology enhancements.
2007 Guidance
In 2007, in addition to reporting revenue from its Marlboro facility, the Company plans to report additional line items for revenue derived from EverQ. Evergreen Solar will separately report the fees received from EverQ for the marketing and sale of EverQ modules by the Company. In addition, the Company will separately report revenues derived from payments by EverQ for the Company's R&D efforts on behalf of EverQ, and revenues derived from royalty payments for its ongoing technology contribution to EverQ. These EverQ-related revenues are expected to total approximately $10 million to $15 million in 2007. For 2007, Evergreen Solar expects revenue from EverQ-1 to be in a range of $100 to $125 million (assuming current exchange rates) as it completes the transition to the thin ribbon platform by the first quarter of 2007 and plans to add approximately 5 MW of incremental capacity at that plant by the second quarter of 2007. The Company anticipates that EverQ-2 will commence volume shipments during the second quarter of 2007, and should reach full manufacturing capacity by the fourth quarter of 2007. EverQ-2 is expected to generate revenue in the range of $60 to $75 million (assuming current exchange rates) in 2007. Although it will not be reflected in Evergreen Solar's reported revenue in the future, the Company believes that separately reporting the combined revenues of EverQ, which in 2007 is expected to be a one-third owned unconsolidated subsidiary of Evergreen Solar, with Evergreen Solar's own revenue is useful to investors as it shows the true market penetration of Evergreen Solar's String Ribbon technology. Combined EverQ and Evergreen Solar world-wide product revenue in 2007, which incorporates Evergreen Solar's proprietary String Ribbon technology, are expected be in the range of approximately $200 to $250 million.

Some of the thinking is that with elections coming up in the US on 11/7, the administration has been keeping down the oil prices.  If this is the case, then oil prices will resume their higher price after the election and alternative energy will once again be in vogue.

ESLR and SPWR are two to watch.  You might also want to look at the ethanol stocks, but with the high production costs, the inefficiency of the product and the destructive properties of ethanol (to an engine) it might not be the way to go.

ESLR is looking better by the day. If the democrats win the election we may see lots of money moving back into alternative energy. May buy ESLR next week, it looks like it has bottomed out.

I am also liking the look of ESLR at these levels.  Friday's doji is very interesting as it clearly defines support and resistance an should give us an indicator as to whether ESLR wants to rebound from these levels or put in a new downawrd move.  Friday's low was 7.87, a penny below thursday's low of 7.88.  The high was 8.19, exactly the same as Thursday's.  Technically, a print of either 8.20 or 7.86 would give us a fairly clear buy or sell signal.

More broadly, ESLR has been moving in an extended downward channel over the last 9 months.  We had a recent bounce off the bottom of that channel and an attempt to test the top of it which failed due to overhang resistance above 9.50.  It is entirely possible that ESLR will try and test the bottom of the channel again, however I think that is unlikely - there is a nice positive divergence in the MACD, and a look at the 2 year weekly chart shows solid support from the first 9 months of 2005 coming in around the 7.25 area.  Also, looking at the MACD histo and CCI on the weekly chart both show clear positive divergences, with the MACD histo about to cross into positive territory.

it is clear from recent PR that things are getting moving for ESLR, having recently garnered some big contracts, with the potential for more on the way.  The recent big gap up proved that there is real enthusiasm for this stock, and while they are still making a loss, revs are up significantly and I think there is clear potential for solar technology in the current energy concious environment.  I think solar is a great play, and ESLR is the kind of stock that I would like to have in my portfolio for ethical reasons (I know, ethical reasons don't necessarily make you money).  In the 80s my father ran a solar heating business in Scotland, and the panel he designed back then is still considered one of the most efficient solar hot water panels around.  In fact the company as it is now is in talks to be taken over by one of the larger energy companies in the UK.  I know that this is largely irrelevant to ESLR, but my point is that there is a real paradigm shift going on and big energy is definitely waking up to the importance of alternative energy in their energy production mix.

ESLR is already trading up at 8.38 in friday's aftermarket, so it will be interesting to see if this is sustained on Monday (an open above 8.30, the bottom of the recent gap would be positive).  20,000 shares traded in a bit of a flurry from 6:45pm, so possibly someone accumulating a block position after hours (not really sure).  But an opening around here would be a strong sign that Friday's doji is a reversal candle, and I would expect this move to run up to 9.50 at least.  Whether it breaks through this resistance remains to be seen, but what I would really be interested in is whether ESLR can break though the channel and above resistance at 10.25.

Well ESLR sure got a good bounce off that doji candle - big gap up and a huge volume day definitely suggests something is up.  I finally got my funds cleared half way through the day so picked up a small position at 8.57.  Looking to add to it in the next couple of days.  Price held up above 13ema and 20sma, looking for continuation above 50sma tomorrow.  ESLR needs to push back up above 9.50 before it starts to look really bullish.  For now my stop is just below the gap, at 8.17.

As much as I like ESLR, I'll have to give a caution here...ESLR has been "Cramerized" That would probably also account for the action today?

Cramer "Mad Money" Recap

On Friday's edition, Jim said to buy Wynn Resorts (WYNN) on Monday and sell it Tuesday after it reports. Cramer said he recommends this trade because some unofficial numbers came out from Macau, and if they are true, they could translate into big gains for Wynn. Cisco (CSCO) could report a "blowout" quarter next week, he says. He says it's a buy before it reports on Wednesday. He is also bullish on Four Seasons (FS) and Walt Disney (DIS) before each reports. He also favors AIG (AIG) due to the lack of hurricanes. Finally, he rates Evergreen Solar (ESLR) as an alternative-energy play Monday and says to sell on Wednesday.

Cramer was bullish on Yamana Gold (AUY), Mattel (MAT), Hasbro (HAS), Philadelphia Consolidated Holding (PHLY), Schering-Plough (SGP), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), AES (AES) and LSI Logic (LSI).

Cramer was bearish on Newmont Mining (NEM), Anthracite Capital (AHR), Pfizer (PFE), Oshkosh Truck (OSK), Qualcomm (QCOM), Applied Materials (AMAT) and Chico's (CHS).

Given the fact ESLR is in the same industry as DSTI which hit huge today, would one expect or assume a similar pattern? I would like to hit ESLR the same as I did DSTI but not sure of the long term growth for either. Anyone have an opinion?

ESLR has 2 factories I believe outputing products. It is also making money, while DSTI is still in a developement stage. So I would say ESLR is the safer investment of the two and a more solid company to invest in. I dont know how much lower ESLR can go it seems to be suffer from investors cutting their losses from last year and the oil dropping below $55 a barrel. I believe now is a good time to get back into ESLR (it is near the range before the run up happened.)

nullz,

Yeah, those factors have been hurting it, as well as the technical break of the Symmetrical Triangle, on December 7.

The 7.27 target MADE.  It didn't Double Bottom there though, and closed below it on Tuesday.  It's back above 7.27, and on a Bullish Engulfer, so we'll see.

Given the bearish patterns, failures at resistance, and the fact that all of the downside targets since the H&S Top last spring have MADE, I'd want to see ESLR do something bullish since 7.27 support was broken, and since 6.10 still is IN PLAY.

BTW, Needham made an untimely call for $12 in late November, when ESLR was at $9.  It would be interesting to know if that's still their target, with ESLR at $7.

ESLR remains in a downtrending channel.  Not looking too nice.  But it does look like it may have some support at 7.10, and may be trying for a W-bottom reversal here.  To confirm this interpretation it needs to get above 7.85 resistance, and ideally get back  into the $8 reange.  Might be a good entry here for bottom fishers.

Alternative energy is the future!!!! Own some early!!!

SPWR closed @46.49

STP closed @39.53

ESLR closed @10.11

WWAT closed @ .52

I like SPWR and STP the most because they're making money and growing really fast.

ESLR is a speculative play because it's unprofitable but revenues growing fast. Out of the 4 listed, this is the most expensive to own.

WWAT is a penny stock that is growing really fast and is expected to be profitable this year, with revenues of about 35 million. Besides OPBL (recommended around $5), WWAT is the second penny stock i feel comfortable recommending to you. I believe WWAT is on its way to $2 by the end of the year. The stock broke out on huge volume last friday.

The alternative energy theme seems to me to be the next huge growth area that could drive the next huge bull market for the next 5 -10 years. You can already see it. The revenue growth is tremendous, growing at least 200% over last year for the 4 companies listed above. What appears to be happening is that there is a stealth bull market in the alternative energy stocks that many investors haven't noticed. Well, guess what? It will only get bigger.

Do yourselves a favor if you don't believe it. Just buy a little of each and put them away for a few years.

ESLR has been showing nice continuation strength after the "gap n go" at the beginning of April.  Getting clear from the last 8-minth trading range.  Looks to me like ESLR could see upside resistance at 11.80-90, 12.40-50 and 13.20, at least from it strading range last summer.  All solar stocks have been on a real run lately, but it remains to be seen how long this can continue.  I jumped in at 11.08 earlier this week, and would like to see ESLR break into the $12 range in short order, though it might take a bit of consolidation around 11.80-90 before it can do so.

jeffries:
Event
We are assuming coverage of Evergreen Solar, introducing a HOLD rating, a $10 price target and estimates for 2007, 2008 and 2009. Our target is based on a sum-of-the-parts analysis.

Key Points
• Progress on Quad and US Expansion. Evergreen has made good progress on developing higher yield Quad ribbon wafer machines, which it will begin integrating into its new planned fabs in 2008. We expect the technology to help the company achieve its aim of $1.50/watt of cost by 2010. The elements of its US manufacturing expansion plan are also coming together well and Evergreen has just broken ground on its new facility in Devens, Massachusetts, which is targeted to come on line by the end of 2008. We believe that Evergreen as a company should reach net income profitability in late 2008 or early 2009.

• Equity overhang and net losses may cap upside. We believe most negatives have been absorbed into Evergreen's stock and that the shares have some upside from current levels, based on technology and manufacturing ramp progress. However, Evergreen intends to raise equity to fund the growth of its US operations, which we believe could create a "ceiling" on the shares for many months. Management has said it needs to raise approximately $200
million in new capital, probably in mid-to-late 2008 to build US production capacity to 500 MW by 2012. Once this dilution "overhang" is removed and investors begin to focus on 2009
earnings for valuation metrics, we would expect more potential upside in the shares. (We would expect investors to shift their valuation models to 2009 estimates by mid-2008).

• It's not just about silicon. Some investors believe that cheaper silicon could make ESLR irrelevant, since lower silicon usage is a key selling point of the company's technology. We believe that this point of view will eventually prove incorrect and that the important
question is whether or not Evergreen can quickly scale operations to build good, competitively-priced modules at a reasonable operating profit. Improvements in efficiency levels and the introduction of "lights out" Quad ribbon technology in new fabs should raise output per line and secure significant cost reductions that allow the company to post solid margins in a declining ASP environment.

Valuation/Risks

We use a sum-of-the-parts analysis to arrive at our $10 price target. We believe this method best captures the value from ESLR's disparate income and cash flow sources. Risks to our thesis include the ability to access the capital markets to fund growth needs, the continuation of PV subsidies and scaling risk.

Evergreen Solar Shares Up on UBS Rating
Thursday December 13, 8:17 pm ET
Evergreen Solar Stock Rises As UBS Analyst Initiates at 'Buy' Citing Potential for Growth

NEW YORK (AP) -- Evergreen Solar Inc. shares rose Thursday after UBS Investment Research initiated the solar cell maker at "Buy," saying Evergreen is well positioned for growth.

Its stock added 70 cents, or 4.9 percent, to $15.11 Thursday, down from an intraday high of $15.30. Most other solar stocks fell sharply as the broader market declined.

Evergreen's plans to quickly and sharply expand production through 2012 and its low-cost technology drove UBS analyst Stephen Chin's rating.

The Marlboro, Mass., company plans to expand production from solar panels with 15 megawatts of annual generating capacity this year to more than 100 megawatts in 2009 and 500 megawatts in 2012. Its proprietary "String Ribbon" technology require 3 grams of polysilicon per watt of energy, about half of the overall industry's level, Chin said.

Using less of the feedstock is key to lowering costs as polysilicon prices have surged on increased demand. Polysilicon now costs about $60 to $80 per kilogram compared with $30 per kilogram in 2005.

"We estimate that the solar module market can maintain its 46 percent compound annual growth rate through 2012 and believe Evergreen is well positioned, given its expected annual module production," Chin wrote.

Evergreen Solar signs 10-year supply agreement with Silicium de Provence
Thursday , December 13, 2007 18:49ET

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 14, 2007 (Thomson Financial via COMTEX) -- Evergreen Solar Inc. late Thursday said it has signed a 10-year polysilicon supply agreement with French company Silicium de Provence S.A.S. The agreement will supply Evergreen Solar with contracts for all the silicon it needs to meet its cumulative sales goal of more than 1 gigawatt of solar panels from 2008 to 2012, including over 500 megawatts of sales in 2012, the Marlboro, Mass.-based solar power products company said.

Shipments are expected to begin in mid-2010.

Shares of ESLR Spike on New Contract
Despite Dip in Oil

Thursday's session saw oil finally take a breath from the recent
rally though in overnight trade, crude reached highs over
$135 a barrel. With the International Energy Agency supposedly
reporting a report displaying a sharp downward revision
to their oil supply forecast, the price could begin to creep back
up in the coming days.
With oil still at elevated levels, one can assume that alternative sources of energy would be
in favor with investors and over the past month, that's has normally been the case. The Claymore
ETF TAN which is a collection of solar names started the month of May in the $25 area
before hitting highs of almost $20 on Monday but sank over 1.5% on Thursday. Most every
name in the industry was red besides one, Evergreen Solar Inc. (ESLR).
The Company develops, manufactures and markets solar power products using proprietary,
low-cost manufacturing technologies. The Company's patented wafer technology, known as
String Ribbon, uses significantly less polysilicon than conventional processes.
On Thursday, the Company announced it signed two new long-term sales contracts. Evergreen
Solar and German-based Ralos Vertriebs GmbH signed an agreement valued at approximately
$750 million for panel deliveries beginning in 2008 and extending through 2013.
Combined with another agreement signed last week with a United States-based installer,
Evergreen has new contractual backlog of approximately $1 billion.
The solar panels for these two contracts will be manufactured at the company's Massachusetts
facility, which will begin panel production in July, and represent approximately 35% of
the expected 160MW of annual production capacity at the facility through 2013.
In addition to these two new contracts, the Company has six other customer contracts with a
current total backlog of approximately $850 million, which will primarily be supplied by EverQ,
its German-based joint venture.
Following the news, shares spiked at the bell to highs over $12.00 before consolidating the
remainder of the day and closing at $10.94, up over 20%. Besides Thursday's gain, the name
had been somewhat left off of the solar rally that has taken place over the past two months.
Since mid March, names such as CSIQ, FSLR, EMKR, LDK, SOLF, SPWR, STP, TSL, YGE,
and ASTI have all seen huge gains but saw large pullbacks Thursday on the halt in oil price
spikes.
With the news, ESLR may attempt to catch the others and their recent gains. On the other
hand, if oil continues with more bearish action, the name could quickly give up Thursday's
gain. With that in mind, investors would be wise to watch.

notbeln, I went and pulled up the thread.
With so many shorts this thing is under pressure, but with $1 billion backlog, she'll be under accumulation too.
I like it... point & figure says buy.

Post by: setravis on April 23, 2011, 09:24:07 PM
MARLBORO, Mass., Apr 21, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Evergreen Solar, Inc. (ESLR), a manufacturer of String Ribbon(R) solar power products with its proprietary silicon wafer technology, announced today its ES-A and ES-E series solar panels are some of the first panels to be certified for ammonia gas resistance by TUV Rheinland.

The ES-A and ES-E series are high quality String Ribbon(R) solar panels offering exceptional performance, industry-leading environmental credentials and the ability to be installed in almost any climate or location. Back in 2010 the panels passed the rigorous IEC 61701 salt mist corrosion testing for PV panels. This newest certification confirms that the ES-A and ES-E series panels are now ideal for installations susceptible to potential damage from high concentrations of ammonia gas generated by livestock inside enclosed structures like barns.

"This ammonia gas resistance certification extends the ability of Evergreen Solar panels to be installed virtually anywhere that solar power is viable, and makes our powerful, environmentally-friendly solar panels available to more people," said Mike El-Hillow, Evergreen Solar's President and CEO. "These panels are already certified for use in climates which have snow or high winds as well as for installations susceptible to sea mist in coastal areas or on islands. We are now proud to have one of the first solar panels available in the industry tested by TUV Rheinland to meet the draft standard IEC 62716 certification. This feature is extremely beneficial for those customers in the agricultural industry particularly focused on raising livestock including pigs and cattle."

All Evergreen Solar String Ribbon solar panels are constructed using its proprietary wafer manufacturing technology which is the most environmentally-friendly process in the industry with virtually no wasted silicon. The carbon footprint of these panels is up to 30% smaller than that of its competitors. These solar panels also have the quickest energy payback, now as fast as 12 months for installed panels.
