Looks good...solid breakout on 3 year chart from a falling wedge consolidation. Nice macroeconomic niche that they are in....The computer-based home entertainment is only in it's infancy.

Seems like getting to 6.5-7 area wouldn't be a problem...

Remain calm. The fundamentals are very sound.  Net Tangible Assets is increasing steadily each quarter.  The Enterprise Value is only $44MM! because of no LT debt and cash in the bank.  Revenues are growing rapidly.  Fundamentals and low float 9.5MM outstanding means this could rocket much higher, especially on the IPOD/PSP hype.

Like I said, try to remain calm.

Title: HAUP $5.7 ..DEAL WITH REPLAY TV WILL BE HUGE!!!
Post by: hauppycamper on November 27, 2006, 03:44:29 AM
Last week's furious HAUP rally could accelerate as details of the Replay TV and other OEM deals become clearer highlighting the huge potential packed on this little giant.

http://stockcharts.com/gallery/?haup

HAUP's deal with ReplayTV could be a big deal....and it appears that it is also a BIG DEAL for D&M Holdings, a japanese multi-billion dollar conglomerate that owns Replay TV. D&M focuses on the home media/entertainment segment.. D&M owns industry flagships such as Denon, Marantz, McIntosh, Boston Acoustics, Snell Acoustics, Escient, and Replay TV.

Replay TV is a big part of D&M current and future growth plans. So much so that D&M mentions Replay TV, and Hauppauge Digital, on page 34 entitled "Growth Opportunity" of its 58-page November 16, 2006 "FY2006 Interim Financial Results." Why would D&M mention this opportunity if it did not mean some serious growth potential?

Here is the link for D&M's PowerPoint presentation....look for "Latest Presentations" in the middle of the page.

http://www.dm-holdings.com/eng/ir/

Now take a look at Replay TV's website....look for the title "How do I Control it?".....and you'll see Hauppauge's name prominently displayed.

http://www.replaytv.com/tv_on_my_pc.asp

As it does every year at this time of the year, HAUP (Hauppauge Digital, Inc.), is starting a rally that usually lasts until February (see chart above):

This year HAUP started to go up sooner than usual because of stronger than expected 3Q 2006 results. The uptrend was temporarily broken, but last week it regained most of what was lost on relatively high volume.

Expected HAUP catalysts for the next few weeks besides the Replay TV bonus:

* HAUP usually unveils several new products at this time of the year. The CEO already said that will release several new products in coming days/weeks. A product release a year ago lifted the stock 45%.

* 4Q 2006 and FY 2006 earnings to be released in December will show a 20 - 30% year over year revenue increase per CEO's comments last month during the annual meeting. Net income reported for the first 9 months of 2006 is 25c/share, almost doubling the 14c/share reported for all of 2005.

* HAUP usually goes up big during the Consumer Electronics Show held yearly in early January in Las Vegas, Nevada.

* HAUP reports its biggest quarter of the year in February. The first quarter of every year reflects Holiday sales. This year the company expects strong sales of some of its key products.

Interestingly, on 11/20 CEO Plotkin filed that he has acquired 200,000 HAUP shares at $4.96. He now owns 958,000 HAUP shares....or about 10% of all outstanding shares.

This year HAUP is stronger that ever:

- Highest revenue and net income in company history for first 9 months of 2006. Revenues of $76M in 9 months compared to $78M the previous year. Nine month net income of 25c/share compared to 14c/share for the previous year.

- 90c/share cash

- Zero long term debt

- Strong and diverse array of quality products gaining market share worldwide thanks to the simultaneous boom of HDTV, broadband usage, and computer power.

- Strong already in the US and Europe. Gaining market share in the lucrative China/Asia market

- Many recent OEM deals with quality companies like Microsoft, etc.

Even after last week's gain, HAUP is only trading at an undervalued P/S ratio of 0.6......Projected 2006 revenues of $90M+ and less than $60M market cap!!!!

Last month Kenneth Plotkin, the Company's Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer, President and Chief Operating Officer said that the Company expected net sales in excess of $90 Million for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2006. He also said that based on certain sales channel market information currently available to the Company, sales of the Company's WinTV-HVR 950 hybrid video recorder product were expected to be relatively strong for the upcoming holiday season. As a reference, revenues for 2005 were $78M.

The Hauppauge WinTV HVR 950 is a small, compact USB device that is capable of viewing and recording both SD and HD TV. The HVR 950 is that it is a self powered USB device. It does not need an external power source to operate, and also comes with a small TV Antenna that is capable of receiving SD (NTSC) and HD (ATSC) over-the-air signals. It is also capable of receiving other NTSC signals, which allows one to view the cable at one's residence.

In the most recent 10Q, the company stated: .."Our R&D departments in New York and Taiwan have been teaming together to deliver an impressive series of new products, including two new multimode TV tuners, the triple TV format WinTV-HVR-3000 and the quadruple TV format WinTV-HVR-4000. The WinTV-HVR-4000 is Hauppauge's first product with high-definition satellite TV reception. In addition, two new dual tuner digital TV receivers, the WinTV-NOVA-T-500 and the new WinTV-NOVA-T-USB2 diversity digital TV receiver, were introduced. Together, the R&D team is scheduled to introduce 20 new products in fiscal 2006."

Monzoni007,

Each member is permitted to post under one name only, so "Hauppycamper" has been banned, and you are on probation for pumping HAUP under two names.

Your posts on HAUP aren't without merit, but you make statements that show signs of "pumping" the stock, which isn't permitted at 3SOF.  For example:

Quote from: hauppycamper on November 27, 2006, 03:47:46 AM
As it does every year at this time of the year, HAUP (Hauppauge Digital, Inc.), is starting a rally that usually lasts until February (see chart above):

That clearly is inaccurate.

The past two years, the "Pump Phase" lasted only until December 21, 2004, and December 22, 2005, well ahead of February.  HAUP then entered the "Dump Phase," and went down roughly 50% on both occasions.

You either are pumping and hyping this stock, or you don't know how to look at a chart.  The fact that you created another screen name to post on this stock leads me to conclude the former.  If you continue to pump this or any other stock, you will be banned from 3SOF.

WARNING TO 3SOF MEMBERS:

HAUP, like other "Pump and Dump" stocks, has some nice runs to the upside, but also some big downside when the "Pump Phase" ends.  This is a very illiquid stock: 30-day average volume only is 59,000 shares.  Normally, when you want out of these stocks during the "Dump Phase," you get whacked on the spread between the Bid and Ask.

Be very careful playing these illiquid issues.

Great surprise earnings today. 1st 4Q profit in company history. 4Q is the weakest quarter for HAUP.  This is the second surprise in a row and that's why i believe that investors are finally realizing that HAUP has finally turned the corner and that we should expect profits every quarter.

HAUP's strongest quarter (1Q) will be reported in February. That one will break all previous records revenue and incomewise.

My estimates:

1Q 2007 revenues: $30 - $40M

1Q 2007 Net Income: 25 - 30c/share

FY 2007 revenues: $110 - $130M

FY 2007 net income: 50 - 60c/share

With this type pf growth, HAUP should go from a P/S of 0.7 to a more reasonable value of 2 for a profitable and growing company with a niche in a growing technological area......and having a strong balance sheet and low float.

My 2007 target: $20+ by summer 2007

My guess is that HAUP will rally like it did in early 2004 when it went over $10.

The big difference is that this time it will likely stay above $10 because it has the fundamentals to support higher valuations and it's growing profitably at a very healthy rate

Newbie here. I saw a reference to this site at the Yahoo HAUP board. The post mentioned that a threat started by David Randolph contains excellent DD on this company. I tried to access that post by my request was denied. What do I need to do to be able to get in that section? Is it my browser that is not compatible? What is it??.....TIA for your help.

I also appreciate the info provided in this thread because I am planning on investing on HAUP on behalf of my investment club. We plan on buying 20K shares on Tuesday.

Why do you continue to post the same "pump message" on this site in regards to HAUP.   This is not the Yahoo board.  When you do this you only keep more people away from the stock.  You sound worse than a used car salesman, we get the message, HAUP is improving and its action will speak for itself.  You sound like someone who is dying to get out of the stock because you are underwater.  Enough is Enough!

Hauppauge TV Anywhere: Slingbox killer?

Related entries: Peripherals
Hauppauge TV Anywhere: Slingbox killer?

Telly addicts rejoice:

Hauppauge (pronounced hop-pog, apparently) has just joined the ranks of Sling Media and Sony in making a TV 'place shifting' device. Like the Slingbox and LocationFree, the Hauppauge TV Anywhere package makes it possible to watch your own home television from just about anywhere in the world.

It's not as clever as the Slingbox or the slightly inferior LocationFree. It's basically just an ordinary Hauppauge WinTV-PVR USB2 external TV tuner with Orb software pre-installed. As you may already know, Orb lets you stream the signal from your TV card (any with an MPEG-2 decoder will do) to a second Web-enabled device.

Though it's not as elegant a solution, the TV Anywhere package does some things its rivals can't. The accompanying Orb software lets you view still images, watch stored video, listen to audio and access your bookmarks at home from anywhere.

HAUP and ORB Networks have issued several joint PRs in recent months. Here is an interesting commentary from a third party:

Live TV, music, video and pictures on your mobile device with Orb

In a remarkable software-based media anywhere solution, Orb Networks has provided over the last year or two the technology base to let you watch your home media content wherever you happen to be. And thanks to a shift in their business strategy, you can do this all for free. Music, video and pictures from your home can be available to you whether you are waiting at the airport, sitting in your car, or stuck late at the office.

While Orb has established the technology and infrastructure to enable successful media streaming, this is just the beginning. For example, as the company grows their customer base, they have plans for targeted advertising that would enhance your experience rather than dominate it, and additional partnerships, all funding this free service in the future without becoming intrusive.

Some of Orb's recent advances include the following:

* Orb is now bundled with Hauppauge's WinTV products in the U.S. as well as in the UK.

* Orb 2.0 is in beta and nearly ready for general release (before the end of the year). The new version will bring a smaller, optimized 10MB client and brings improvements in functionality, features and an interface upgrade.

* Nokia N80 Internet edition phones will be shipped with an Orb bookmark.

The potential seems virtually unlimited, and if Orb continues to catch on, there will be much more to come. So far, over 1.5 million hours of media have been streamed by Orb customers. If you want to jump into the future of enjoying your content anywhere, be sure to give Orb a try.

No need to pump HAUP(at least not here at 3SOF), the chart speaks for itself.
By doing so you may be turning away others from buying in.
A simple constructive comment or chart update would do just fine.

HAUP will rally at the end of the day and into tomorrow IMO.  With CES show in Vegas next week, HAUP could be a big gainer next week and beyond. Remember, record 1Q 2007 earnings are expected 6 weeks from now.

Right now HAUP is undervalued  trading at 0.6 P/S and growing at 20%/year. Net income in 2007 could reach 50c/share for the first time in company's history with all the big OEM deals that HAUP recently inked.

Four New Vista Compatible Products for Analog and Digital TV Reception Introduced at CES

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hauppauge Digital, Inc., the world's leading developer and manufacturer of analog and digital video, TV, and data broadcast receiver products for personal computers, has launched a line of four new TV tuner products specifically designed to support Microsoft's Vista Media Center and to take full advantage of Vista's exciting TV features.

After five years in development, the Windows Vista launch is finally at hand and eager PC users will want to make the switch as quickly as possible. When they do, Hauppauge is ready to support Vista Media Center with its new line of TV tuners for PCs and laptops, to ensure a seamless transition to the most advanced home entertainment system. The comprehensive new selection of four tuners will allow Vista users to watch, record, and play back analog NTSC, European DVB-T digital TV and North American high definition digital ATSC TV, combining WinTV's well-known quality and convenience with the cutting-edge Vista Media Center application.

The new WinTV products for Vista Media Center are:

    * WinTV-NOVA-TD-500--For the European and Asian markets, WinTV-NOVA-TD-500 is a dual tuner digital DVB-T TV tuner board that can be used in either a dual tuner or diversity configuration. Diversity uses two tuners to give better digital TV reception on a single DVB-T digital channel, while the dual tuner mode enables you to watch one digital TV channel while recording another digital channel.
    * WinTV-HVR-1800--For the North American market where the ATSC digital TV transition continues, WinTV-HVR-1800 is a PCI Express TV tuner for receiving analog cable and high definition ATSC digital TV. In a half-height PCIe board, WinTV-HVR-1800 has separate tuners for analog NTSC and ATSC digital TV. With Vista's Media Center application, you can watch a cable TV channel while recording high definition digital TV from another channel.
    * WinTV-HVR-1600--This is an analog cable TV and high definition digital ATSC PCI TV tuner for Vista PCs. On a single full-height PCI board, WinTV-HVR-1600 has separate tuners for analog NTSC and ATSC digital TV. With Vista's Media Center, you can watch an analog TV channel while recording high definition digital TV from another channel.
    * WinTV-HVR-1500--A dual format hybrid analog and high definition digital 54 mm ExpressCard TV tuner, WinTV-HVR-1400 brings NTSC analog and high definition ATSC digital TV to laptop computers running Vista's Media Center in North America. Watch and record either analog or high definition digital TV on your Vista Media Center PC.

Hauppauge's new Vista compatible TV tuners join WinTV-HVR-1100, WinTV-PVR-150, WinTV-PVR-500 and WinTV-PVR-USB2 as Vista Premium certified products, giving Hauppauge the most complete line up of Vista Premium TV receivers in the world.

Four New Vista Compatible Products for Analog and Digital TV Reception Introduced at CES

CES IS ICING ON CAKE...REAL REASONS WHY HAUP WILL BE $15 IN 2007

$98M in Revenues...25c/share net income...Growing at 20%/year....$1/share cash...No debt.....$67M market cap....4.5M share float.

.....and HAUP's P/S ratio is less than 0.7!!!....comparables are trading between 1.5 and 4.5

When HAUP reports 1Q 2007 earnings during the 3rd week of February it will likely report revenues in excess of $30 for the first time. 1Q net income will likely exceed the total fiscal 2006 net income of 25c/share.

Here is 2006 record/surprise earnings report summary (reported on December 26):

** Sales increase of 24% leads to record fiscal year sales of $97.7 million (compared to $78.5M in 2005).

** Net income increases by 74% for fiscal 2006 (25c/share vs. 15c/share in 2005).

** Cash increased from $7.9M in 2005 to $9M in 2006 or $1/share

** ZERO long-term debt

RECENT OEM AGREEMENTS THAT WILL FUEL HAUP'S FUTURE GROWTH

HAUP and Orb Networks have a strong partnership. Orb is now bundled with Hauppauge's WinTV products in the U.S. as well as in the UK.

Orb provides the technology base to let you watch your home media content wherever you happen to be. Music, video and pictures from your home can be available to you whether you are waiting at the airport, sitting in your car, or stuck late at the office.

The potential seems virtually unlimited, and if Orb continues to catch on. So far, over 1.5 million hours of media have been streamed by Orb customers

Replay TV and HAUP are now teaming to go after TIVO and others in the sector. Replay TV provides the software and Hauppauge provides the hardware and additional software. Together they provide more flexibility and power than TIVO, including the use of mobile devices, and a fraction of the TIVO's cost.

Replay TV is owned by multi-billion dollar entertaiment/consumer electronics' giant D&M Holdings. D&M owns industry flagships such as Denon, Marantz, McIntosh, Boston Acoustics, Snell Acoustics, Escient, and Replay TV. D&M Holdings acquired Denon and Marantz in 2002; McIntosh in 2003; Replay TV in 2004; Boston Acosutics and Snell in 2005.

COMMENTS FROM CEO PLOTKIN REGARDING HAUP'S MOSR RECENT FINANCIAL RESULTS:

"We believe that our sales increase for the year was due primarily to the growing acceptance of TV as part of the PC multimedia experience, a market we serve with our WinTV-PVR, WinTV-NOVA and WinTV-HVR products.

Helping the sales increase in the quarter was growth in sales of our digital TV tuner receivers for PCs and notebooks plus sales growth of TV receivers for Media Center PCs. In addition, we saw a turnaround in European sales when compared to the previous year's fourth quarter.

During the quarter, we started shipping the WinTV-HVR-950 "stick", our hybrid dual format TV tuner for North America plus the new quad format WinTV-HVR-4000 designed for the European market. The WinTV-HVR-950 stick is a pocket sized, external TV receiver which allows for the viewing of ATSC high definition TV plus NTSC cable TV on your PC or laptop. The WinTV-HVR-4000 is Hauppauge's first product with high-definition satellite TV reception.

For the fiscal year, strong sales of our TV receivers for Media Center PCs plus sales of newly introduced digital TV receivers contributed to a 24% annual sales growth. By keeping corporate expenses under control while we increased our R&D budget, we were able to see a 74% increase in net income and also introduced a record number of new products."

As those of you who read this folder and the 3SOF Picks portolio know, I didn't like the "Pump and Dump" history in this stock, and I also don't play stocks that are this thinly traded.

But, since David and Michael looked into the fundamentals, and since David selected it for a 3SOF Pick, I took a look at it this weekend and was glad to see that it's doing well.

Two observations:

1. Head & Shoulders Top

I mentioned Friday morning in the ONT folder about the takeout of the Right Shoulder of the H&S Top in HLIT, which David also has selected for the 3SOF Portfilio.

It turns out that there's an excellent example of that in the HAUP chart, only its a DOUBLE H&S Top!  See the two necklines?

When the Right Shoulder of a H&S Top is taken out to the upside, that can very nice because, for one big reason, it presents a problem for anyone who shorted the pattern, thinking that it was bearish, which it often is.

In the case of HAUP, we can see that when the second neckline got put in at 4.68, the pattern was looking pretty ugly, and that anyone short was understandly licking his chops, in anticipation of the breakdown.

When the 5.47 high of the Right Shoulder got taken out to the upside...

Uh-oh-h....Shorts Beware...  >:D

When the 6.10 high of the Head got taken out to the upside...

Uh-oh-h...Shorts are forced to "Buy To Cover" because who knows how high its going when resistance is taken out.

:o  :o  :o

To measure the pattern target, you take the 6.10 high, substract where the lower neckline was when that high was made, the ADD that to 6.10, rather than subtract it, if the pattern had broken down.

The print of 6.11, a penny above the 6.10 high, put 7.65 IN PLAY, which MADE on January 8.

2. Bearish Wolfe Wave

A Bearish Wolfe has "Lead-In" Rally to Data Point #1 (blue).

It has an upward bias, making "higher highs and higher lows," which typically is bullish, but in this case it isn't.  It's very much like a Rising Wedge, and it's also "terminal," like a Rising Wedge, if it gets broken to the downside, meaning that the rally is over for the short-term, and possibly longer.

One of the "tells" in a Wolfe Wave pattern is that the stock has a false breakout of some kind to the upside at Wave 5.  It might even close above the top of the pattern, but then it comes back inside it, and then breaks below the pattern.

In this pattern in HAUP, there are FOUR tags of the top of the pattern, so the stock is responding to it.

Since there was a bullish outcome to what appeared to be a very Bearish H&S Top, there's good reason to suspect that HAUP might put on the booster rockets, and take off to the upside out of what appears to be a Bearish Wolfe Wave.

If, however, there's an upside fakeout here, at Wave #5, and HAUP then breaks below the pattern, that suggests a bearish outcome.

In that event, the downside target at Wave #6 is derived by connecting the high of Wave #1 and the low of Wave #4.

Just something to watch, for anyone interested.

I'll post the MACD chart next.

At the 6.10 high of the H&S Top in October, there was a Negative Divergence in the MACD Histogram which resulted in a 23.3% decline in HAUP before it recovered, and took out the 6.10 high to the upside.

During the current Bearish Wolfe Wave formation there is a DOUBLE negative divergence here at the top of the pattern, at Friday's 7.90 close, which is another indication to be watchful for a false breakout here, at Wave 5, or no breakout at all.

A strong "turn on the booster rockets" white candle or two to the upside here would be nice.

Hmm...  Intersting, Melf.  I am not totally convined by the WW formation, mainly because as you have drawn it on the daily chart, the support and resistance lines are not converging, which I thought was an important part of the wolfewave pattern.  Also, I'm not convinced we have seen the point 5 upside fake-out yet (maybe that was your point, to watch out for it).  Anyway, I think that having a look at the 30 minute chart for HAUP is also quite informative.  I'll  put in 2 charts that show slightly different timescales, and also have slightly different trendlines, which give slightly different interpretations to the current situation.  Despite being relatively thinly traded, HAUP has been responding well to support and resistance, as can be seen below.

In the first chart, which is a 30 minute chart dating back to the beginning of December (for some reason my 60 min chart just comes up with points, and looks a mess) I have drawn in an ascending channel with parallel support and resistance, that HAUP has been traversing.  I think the point to note here is that HAUP has been spiking outside the top of this channel lately, which could be suggestive of a point 5 WW fakeout.  I put the target of this "channel WolfeWave" around 6.20 right now (will have to go and have another look, but I'm not sure whether WWs can form in parallel channels). However, if the price breaks down, it could also find support at the base of the channel, forgoing the WW target.  I also currently see horizontal support kicking in at 7.65, 7.25 and 6.50.  The second point to note is the steeper ascending support line formed after the early Jan 6.50 reversal, which I'll discuss below (and can be seen more clearly on the second chart).

The second chart is also a 30 minute chart but over a slightly shorter timespan.  We can clearly see a clear rising wedge formation, with 3 (possibly more) hits on each rail.   The main difference between the charts is that the rising wedge resistance line is a bit different to the channel resistance line in slope and connection points, but to me it looks valid.  Right at the end of trading on Friday, HAUP tagged the support rail, and bounced off it again.  Both the daily and intraday charts show $8 as clear resistance, and it seems obvious that if HAUP were to break above $8 this week, it would probably run another 5-10%, if not more.  A breakdown from the rising wedge could send HAUP down to test $6.50 support.

Also on the 30 minute chart, a pair of smaller ascending triangles can be seen over recent trading, again with clear $8 resistance.  The smaller one gives a technical target of 8.34, the larger one gives a technical target of 8.77.  It remains to be seen whether these short term patterns will resolve themselves to the upside with a break of $8 this week (probably Tuesday) or the rising wedge formation will take control, sending HAUP back down to test the base of the channel.

However, as I see it, the chains have been set.  A break above $8 should send HAUP to new highs.  A break below 7.75 will more than likely lead to a drop of 10% or more.  I intend to set my trading plan accordingly, with a stop just below this level.  I like HAUP, and I do think we could see new highs, but I have already been swung out of it twice, because of its volatility (and setting my stops too tightly).  My current entry price is 7.60, and I don't intend to come out of this trade with a loss.  Any other comments are, as always, appreciated.

Here you can find more info about positive and negative divergence, it's doesn't necessarily has to be about a crossing of the 2 lines but it's about lower highs, ... :

http://stockcharts.com/education/IndicatorAnalysis/indic_MACD1.html (http://stockcharts.com/education/IndicatorAnalysis/indic_MACD1.html)

A negative divergence forms when the security advances or moves sideways and MACD declines. The negative divergence in MACD can take the form of either a lower high or a straight decline. Negative divergences are probably the least common of the three signals, but are usually the most reliable and can warn of an impending peak.

Maxi,

Yes, I'm referring to the histogram, that it was weaker at Wave #3 than it was at Wave #1, and that on this push higher in the MACD itself to Wave #5, the histogram Double Topped just below where it was at Wave #3, and then ticked down on Friday.

Se7en,

Thanks for that.  Applause.

Yes, MACD often acts as a lead indicator, in this case, warning of impending weakness as it did at the 6.10 top last autumn, but PRICE has to confirm that weakness.

Scotsman,

You've got me there.  I don't think that they have to converge, but we won't worry about it because Wolfe Wave targets, lke anything else, don't always get MADE.

The important thing is to watch how the stock responds to the support and resistance that you've mentioned, particularly to anything that looks like a Wave 5 fakeout, with the MACD warning of the possibility of impending weakness.

Quote
Also, I'm not convinced we have seen the point 5 upside fake-out yet (maybe that was your point, to watch out for it).

Exactly my point.  Watch out for it.

The set-up for a Wave 5 fakeout on technical weakness is there, but HAUP just as easily could put on the booster rockets, and accelerate to the upside, as I said.

Very nice job on your analysis, Scotsman.  Applause.

Short-term, HAUP is responding to the technical weakness, and broke below a Descending Triangle this morning, which has a QUADRUPLE top at 8.00.  That needs to get taken out to upside, obviously.

The pattern break puts 7.43 IN PLAY as long as HAUP trades below the pattern, or until 8.00 is taken out.

Trust HAUP to get hopping just when I hopped off  ???

Had to clear out some positions, and HAUP looked a bit weak there, on really low volume, so I got out at 7.77, only to come back later and see it had blown through $8!!!

Oh well, it will probably continue on from here, now that key $8 resistance is broken, but to be honest, HAUP traded a little too thinly for my liking, resulting in big potential swings, but really hard to read on days like today when volume is so low.

Scotsman,

The late day rally sent HAUP right to the top of the channel again,  which was at 8.202 yesterday.  That's the 7th candle to hit that trendline, or very close to it.

The high was 8.24, which was a technical breakout, but the close was 8.16, four cents back below the breakout.  The tail of the candle was a bit short for a Bearish Hangman, but close.

The top of the channel comes in today at 8.2454, right at yesterday's high, so HAUP is well-positioned for either the breakout, or the Wave 5 fakeout.
???  ::)

I hope that it's the breakout for 3SOF members who are long it, and not the fakeout like we had at the top in GIGM, in late September (next post).

Those of you who were long GIGM in the 3SOF Portfolio last autumn will remember the intraday upside fakeout on September 21, to 12.55, and the close of 12.38, exactly on the top of the channel.

The next day was a Bearish Engulfing pattern.  Six sessions later, GIGM was down 28% from the 12.55 high.

Just an example of the kind of thing to watch for.  Good luck, everyone!

hi,
it made this candlestick pattern
lets see if ths follows through.

Three Outside Up Bullish
Pattern: Reversal
Trend: Bullish
Reliability: High

How to Identify it

A bullish Engulfing pattern occurs in the first two days
The third day is a white day with a higher close than the second day
What it Means
This pattern is a more reliable addition to the standard Engulfing pattern. The third day is confirmation of the bullish trend reversal.

They sure aren't making this one easy for you guys, are they?  :P

The early morning Channel breakout got to a high of 8.47 at 10:00AM.  Support on the selloff was 8.06, which was fine.  That was above the tops of the Ascending Triangle, at 8.00...8.00...8.00...8.00.

The second rally attempt was lower to 8.43, then a selloff to 8.12.  HAUP is at 8.12 again, on a Symmetrical Triangle breakdown in the intraday chart.

A close near here would be:

1. The Wave 5 fakeout/breakout possibility that we've discussed, if it closes below 8.25, similar to what GIGM did in this morning's chart.

2. A Bearish Inverted Hangman in the daily chart.

3. A Bearish reversal, if it closes in the red.

Good luck, guys.  I'd like to see you at least get a close above the channel, at 8.25 or better.

Hauppauge tuners are now a standard in many OEMs products and services ranging from AAPL, IBM, PCs, MSFT, ReplayTV, and many others.

They were great. I bought a bunch at $3.44. My average now is $3.92 and I could not be happier. I own 52K shares an I am keeping them until they go to $6+. This is a great buyers market if you have the cash.

HAUP WILL REPORT EARNINGS IN LESS THAN 3 WEEKS. I EXPECT STRONG EARNINGS DUE TO THE GREATER THAN EXPECTED MSFT VISTA UPGRADING AND WEAK DOLLAR SINCE MOST OF HAUP'S SALES ARE OUTSIDE OF THE US

HAUP had a nice 12.2% jump yesterday without any news that I know of. Technically the stock is still not out of the woods, as you can see in the semi-log scale chart below.

The latest "fundamental" information we got was that Bjurman Barry & Associates sold their whole stake in HAUP (http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/930803/000093511307000035/sc13g0930a.txt), which was 558,500 shares (5.765%) in the beginning of the year (http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/930803/000093511307000003/sc13g01.txt).

Hmm, now I see the September quarter results were not out yet, so HAUP is late ... don't know why ... ah, ok, that's because the fiscal year ends in September 30th, 2007, so the company has more time.

HAUP is currently a $40 M market cap company with fiscal 2006 sales of $97 M. EPS in 2006 was $0.24 and I see what, $0.36 in fiscal 2007, so the stock is trading at 11.2 times earnings.

Some people on Yahoo's message board (http://messages.finance.yahoo.com/Stocks_%28A_to_Z%29/Stocks_H/threadview?m=tm&bn=8307&tid=51838&mid=51838&tof=6&rt=2&frt=2&off=1) seem excited about some of HAUP's new products. This is a stock to keep under the radar, especially if they can surpass the expectation of IP TV making its products obsolete in the future.

The strongest quarter from a seasonal standpoint is the December quarter, or the fiscal 1st quarter. Perhaps it would be a good idea to buy before the earnings announcement, but I guess everybody already knows about this seasonality, so it wouldn't work ... and Q2 2007 revenue and EPS were lower than in Q2 2006.

I'll keep studying HAUP, good luck if you own it.
Title: Re: HAUP
Post by: David Randolph on November 28, 2007, 11:18:19 AM
Hmm, the possible explanation for yesterday's 12.2% move on HAUP came out today, with forms 4 filed with the SEC (http://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?company=&CIK=haup&filenum=&State=&SIC=&owner=include&action=getcompany) showing two insiders bought 5,000 shares each at $3.6.

I wonder if somebody got the information yesterday and how. Perhaps the brokers saw who was buying and also bought some ... anyway, probably Q4 results or Q1 2008 results will be good, or else why would insiders buy? Well, it was just a $36,000 investment, not a big deal.

I wonder what Michael thinks of all this, he knows HAUP fairly well ...

from fous TTT:
HAUP made an impressive move from a technical standpoint today up over 17% on heavily increased volume to breakout from a double bottom pattern in the face of the bear making it appear that this stock is back in favor of the bulls. HAUP reported an increase of 58% in net income over fy 06 with .39 eps excluding tax deference and fully diluted compared to .24eps in 06′. HAUP has been growing at a substantial rate as the previous year of 05′ they reported just .14eps fully diluted. HAUP also stated that they have purchased 142k shares on the open market in the third and fourth quarter as part of a stock repurchase plan.

At the current price of 4.96 HAUP is undervalued as its trading below the Computer Peripherals industry average P/E of 21x earnings while HAUP is at a low 13.4x earnings giving them a current fair value around $8/share. As HAUPS earnings grew 71% in 06′ and 58% in 07′, I think we could conservatively say that HAUP will be able to grow at least 40% into 2008 which would give them an estimated .51 eps for 2008 or a very attractive forward P/E ratio of 9.72x compared to the 21.7x average multiple. Given this information we could give HAUP a future fair value within its industry around $11.06/share which entail upside potential of 123% given todays closing price.

Overall HAUP looks like its in a position  to make a continuation on the long side with multiple aspects for speculation including a bullish breakout, positive growing fundamentals, low valuation, and a stock repurchase program. I want to be long

HAUP has been doing well, I just want to know what happened in point 1 in the chart below:

• Hauppauge Digital Reports Fiscal 2007 Fourth Quarter and Year End Results (http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/071227/20071227005080.html?.v=1)
Business Wire (Thu, Dec 27)

58% earnings growth in 2007 and the adjusted trailing p/e is now $5/$0.37 = 13.5.

Fundamental metrics look attractive, but I'm not a big fan of the business, because of IPTV.

Good luck if you own this one :)

HAUP had a volume spike on Wednesday, I want to know what happened:

• Hauppauge Digital Reports Fiscal 2008 First Quarter Results (http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/080213/20080213005403.html?.v=1)
Business Wire (Wed, Feb 13)

Positive results, however the following sentence probably put the brakes on any rally:

«Mr. Plotkin also stated "Because our products are strongly oriented toward the consumer market, the effect of the economic downturn in the United States will likely have a negative impact on our North American sales. The extent of this downturn is difficult to predict at this time."»

The 4th quarter is seasonally the strongest and that's behind us, so ... probably HAUP won't go anywhere for the next few months, unless there's new information.

Since my last comments on HAUP the stock went down roughly 50% and then it got too cheap and had a 50% rebound.

There aren't any analysts covering the company, but it earned EPS of $0.51 in fiscal 2007. It remains to be seen how HAUP will do in 2008, in this weaker economic environment, at least from the US consumer perspective. The CEO raised those yellow flags:

Quote«Mr. Plotkin also stated "Because our products are strongly oriented toward the consumer market, the effect of the economic downturn in the United States will likely have a negative impact on our North American sales. The extent of this downturn is difficult to predict at this time."»

There was an interesting press release out:

HD Video and Internet Services from the PC to the Living Room (http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/080306/20080306005364.html?.v=1)
Business Wire (Thu, Mar 6)

This is an interesting offer ... DIVX, I wonder, how's that stock?
