Title: AMD
Post by: shawFund on August 28, 2005, 02:38:41 AM
Since it reached year high of $24.95 last December, it pulled back but steadily returned its uptrend again.

It formed an ascending trendline and is ready to break-out it and year-end targer: $30

See chart

AMD's Opteron dual core 64-bit chip has made great inroads against Intel, AMD is targeting 12% market share by year's end.

October 10 earnings are expected to beat estimates, and rumors abound regarding new dual core and quad core Opterons that will far outstrip Intel's dual core 64-bit chip XEON, shipping for the first time later this month (they claim)

AMD is closely allied with SUNW, so it may follow her up.

I want to cut back on bullish plays, but this one looks hard to resist.

Haven't pulled the trigger, thinking about it.

Okay...if Tuesday gives us a decent candlestick, today's doji will be revealed as a Morning Star.

I'm in.

robt,

I really enjoy your posts.  Applause.

October 10 earnings are expected to beat estimates

If earnings meet expectations, I'm wondering if AMD will rally early, then go back and fill the 23.01-23.20 gap on a "sell the news."   ???

The analysts made two horrible calls on AMD in January, and one good one in August. (see chart).  It's interesting to watch these guys.  The first bad call was EXACTLY the morning after AMD broke a H&S top.  The second bad call was EXACTLY the day before the big gap down when the company warned.

Kinda fishy  ::)

They seem to know that they're "caught holding" in a technically vulnerable stock (or they know that an earnings warning is coming out), so they upgrade the stocks, then unload them.  Same kind of upgrade nonsense in STX last month, EXACTLY the day after STX broke support.  Pump and dump.

Good call out of Lehman in August, though.  At least somebody is legit.  ;D

QuoteAMD is closely allied with SUNW, so it may follow her up.

I like SUNW here if I can get it near the little Ascending Triangle re-test at 4.00-4.01.

I'm overbuying moderately, so I can easily take profits early without worrying about a top, then keep an eye on the tape for the optimal exit for the remainder. But I think the choppiness in AMD since mid-Sept has left it in fairly strong hands who aren't likely to get panicky.

Ignore the crappy chart below! AMD is currently halted for earnings; they have announced a blow-out quarter, more than double the mean estimate of 8c/share -- 18c per share on record-breaking revs of $1.523 billion.

After recent disappointment with the action in DESC, PTN and KFX, I was feeling a little shakey about today's action in AMD -- it traded down all day, reaching a low of 22.70. However, when it turned sharply upward at the close, I steeled myself and increased my holdings a moderate amount -- enough to salve my DESC wounds...

As I write, trading has resumed. The current AH price is 23.90 and heading UP.

addendum: the conferenvce call hasn't started yet, and already trading has lost a lot of steam...Wall ST. was disappointed by AAPL toay, and that seems to be dragging down all tech.

damn you, AAPL!  >:(

BLOOD IN THE STREETS!

Beaten up before earnings, and beaten MORE after "blow-out" numbers!

God, was this a wrong trade!

I sold @ 22.08, shares I bought at 23.50 average.

Late trading found AMD down to 20.86, where I bought again.  Closed at 21.00, a 10% punishment for blow-out numbers.

Here's the UGLY picture...

ouch robt,

sounds like you've had as rough a ride as me lately - bought into AAPL yesterday with exactly the same result - I suppose I was lucky in that they rebounded hard in PM today, and have held well so far.

Not good though, need to seriously re-think my trading plans AGAIN as everything I touch seems to nose dive, killing any gains - DESC, OMNI, HEB, CGMI, have all given up gains to tank.

Seems like breakouts are breaking down all over the place right now  >:D

Maybe David can give us some light  ???

I'm shopping for more short positions.

AMD yielded a bit of a bounce, not as healthy as AAPL's. At 9:35 I closed at 21.30, happy to see that much after yesterday's bloodshed.

It closed the day a bit better, at 21.63. Below is a 15-minute chart of the day.

If you're holding shares in this you will want to be watching very close. MACD is in a negative convergence , usually that is a sign that stock might be ready to start its downward trend.
Goodluck trading :)

I see the BB width continues to squeeze. The price is moving to upper band. MFI > %50 (slope goes from negtive to positive)  Looks good. Still waiting for news. Bot some calls to bet on breaking up.

Hi,

I give almsot every time reasons for buying or selling a stock..Sometimes, i don't have enough time or personnal reason. At each trader to find all what he wants in my topics.

Reasons :
1. Support/Resistance : near resistance at 27-28
2. Bollinger Bands : 2 days ago Price close above upper bands and yesterday price close under Upper bands
3. Candlestick : Bearish Engulfing Pattern
4. Oscillators : Overbought (Cf. %D + Williams)
5. retracement : between 50% and 61.8% fibonacci retracement of the last minor uptrend
6. Market direction : Major DOWNTREND
7. Reward/Risk ratio : great -> few risk for possible great profit. Stop-loss at 28.13 and target at 21 - 17. Price close at 26.53.

distrust :
Volume are high on the last minor uptrend

I hope i help you for AMD and my last topic... :)

Hi,

I have sell some shares of AMD...It is like BSX...You can see on the chart my entry price at 26.3...For comments go to the BSX topic or have a look on the chart

Stop-loss at 28.20..

I post this topic because AMD as still a good potential..

I have 3 profit targets and only one is effective

1. Money management protection rule : 24.30. OK

2. support at 21.14

3. Final at 17 (help to calculate my reward/risk ratio = 7.53...With a such good ratio i prefer to have 3 profit targets than 2 as usual..)

Good trades

AMD taking a beating the last weeks and months. Currently AMD does not have competive CPUs and a nice next generation video cards. I suspect AMD will drift lower and bottom sometime in the next few months. AMDs new line of CPUs is coming out in a few months as well as there next generation DX10 video card. Once these products hit the shelves and we can get an idea of how well they perform and what the consumers think of them (it may be a good time to buy into AMD then.)

Wow, AMD is in a rut... broke all levels of support on the year that i can see!  Anyone playing this one?  Seems like a good short with a stop if it enters that gap at 16.45...  but the RSI at 22 shows so very oversold perhaps wait for a small bounce to then short....  Anyone long on AMD here??

Title: Re: AMD - ready to break-out
Post by: nullzero on February 01, 2007, 03:51:27 AM
I wouldnt short AMD at these levels. AMDs next product line is on its way soon. If the new lineup shows better performance then its rival Intel we may see a rally. This may be speculation but I believe AMD is busy working on a multi core CPU with a built in GPU on one of the cores, intergrating both computer processing and graphics processing into one chip can give AMD a advantage in the intergrated systems market. Laptops and small devices like cell phones would benefit greatly from this with the performance and power consumption.

I think we may see a strong rebound at the support in the 14s. I would be a buyer very soon, espically with the new wave of buying needed for running Vista. Graphic cards will be in higher demand as well, since Vista will require more robust graphic solutions to run it. I would wait about 2 months to see if this bottoms out a good time to buy would be when we get the results in from AMDs next generation cpus and video cards.

I am watch AMD stock too, but considering the price war between Intel and AMD, it is certain that AMD's profit margin hurts more. It is going to be a ver tough Q1 2007 for AMD and the stock propaby will lost 14 if Q1 loss widen. if it losses 14.05, the next level is 10.67

I used to work in the semi industry, and had a coworker who was very knowledgeable about what is called "FIB circuit edit".  It is key to design cycles, and INTC is way ahead of AMD in this area he says.  He told me just today he still thinks AMD is way behind here, and that any rally that AMD might pull off would be short lived.  He was short the stock recently and covered for a profit.

On the other hand, stocks move 40% or more with the market, and semis seem to be in bull mode again since last week...

My 2 cents:

I work in semis...
No technical jargon.

AMD is behind until it launches Barcelona processor this year and again takes lead for next 1 year.. Technically, whatever 3SoF community says about the stock price is correct. Its all relative when you want to enter into the stock. ( Before launch or lot earlier than launch or after the launch)..

The tie-ups with OEMs will start working better too...
Title: AMD on Rebound - again?
Post by: LiveLife on May 10, 2007, 10:22:33 AM
AMD has been falling since February of 2006 with a rebound effort in Jul-Sep 2006.

AMD is on the rebound again with INTC showing signs of life.  ;)

Could $13 be the bottom for AMD?

I have traded AMD several times before and if a new bottom has been established, AMD may have some gaining room.

- Ramsburg/setravis, I did a search before posting but AMD threads are already in the "Previous" threads.  If AMD continues the rebound, could you bring the AMD thread back to "Current" threads?

Hey LiveLife,

Nice call on AMD - if it breaks 14.75, it should run up to the bottom of that gap at 16.50, at least that would be the technical target of th W bottom reversal.  Volume has been very solid the last 2 days too.  Positive divergences on MACD and RSI also sugest it is time for a rebound, and the semis have been hotting up lately so this could be good for a nice little move here.  I'll be watching on Monday for that 14.75 breakout.
