Hello Weightlifter,

I would be a bit careful with DSTI. Look at the chart below.

The stock climbed to point A with enormous volume. Then it took a 2 month correction and is back at testing the highs. But there's less volume at this attempt. This shows me fewer people believe the stock will advance, there's less money betting on that outcome.

So this $8-$9 level might be the high for the medium term ... but you know, the charts don't predict the future, but they can give you indications of what investors are thinking.

DSTI is one of my favorites, along with ENER.
I believe in their strong potential, especially looking for the long term.

Good luck with your trading.

There are better picks on this site  with lower risk, in that range.  Pehaps this stock will go up over time, but who wants to wait that long and how long will that be?

When the market is up this week, but still light volume, we have to be careful with stocks that are not showing bullish behavior.  Volume is key to a move up past resistance.   It may go up with low volume, but can it sustain that and is it real?  I am not sure.

That's just my personal opinion.  Good luck trading.

stocky - I will take half out at the first sign of weakness, and let the rest ride out for the moment.  Protective stop starting out at a lil under $10. If it does jump a lot, I do daytrade my swing positions sometimes.  I will sell just before a whole number like 20...and look to buy in the dips.  Mental barriers on this one would be 12.50,15.17.50,20 at this point.

Weighlighter - just awesome  8)

Post by: calven on June 09, 2005, 06:10:30 PM
Kicking myself for not pulling the trigger earlier. I had a target buy at $6.25-6.50 but it obviously didnt get that low...

Looking to get back in around the low 9.00's if i get that opportunity. Could possibly see more rally tomorrow morning after a sell off at the open. Good momentum here. Riskly play to buy in tomorrow after a 60% run today.

I can't predict the initial sell off tomorrow but DSTI being a low float stock, there will be eager buyer at the very first dip and thats the precise reason that you did not saw any meaningful dip today. Also there are some traders who jump the stock at open. This usually lead to gap up. If the crude futures more rises for tomorrow then you can see more of the action in all energy related stocks.

I agree, even if it's hard to let it slide.

Found a nice quote:

"SPIR Picking Up Upside Momentum

Upside momentum is picking up in Spire Corp (Nasdaq: SPIR) again today (+24%) as traders see the company as a secondary play to solar energy play, DayStar Technologies Inc (Nasdaq: DSTI), which has been on fire  lately. (see our 06/10 note) "

From: StreetInsider.com

Nice to see solar-stocks move! They are volatile, so watch out!

One of my favorites, ESLR, up 8.25% today.

I would appreciate komments to this... :)

Double Bottom (Reversal)
The double bottom is a major reversal pattern that forms after an extended downtrend. As its name implies, the pattern is made up of two consecutive troughs that are roughly equal, with a moderate peak in between.

Although there can be variations, the classic double bottom usually marks an intermediate or long-term change in trend. Many potential double bottoms can form along the way down, but until key resistance is broken, a reversal cannot be confirmed.

It is important to remember that the double bottom is an intermediate to long-term reversal pattern that will not form in a few days. Even though formation in a few weeks is possible, it is preferable to have at least 4 weeks between lows. Bottoms usually take longer than tops to form and patience can often be a virtue. Give the pattern time to develop and look for the proper clues. The advance off of the first trough should be 10-20%. The second trough should form a low within 3% of the previous low and volume on the ensuing advance should increase. Volume indicators such as Chaikin Money Flow, OBV and Accumulation/Distribution can be used to look for signs of buying pressure. Just as with the double top, it is paramount to wait for the resistance breakout. The formation is not complete until the previous reaction high is taken out.

Updating DSTI as it appears to be bouncing off of a bottom. Was a 20 minute daytrade for me, in at 2.90 and out at 3.15 for a quick 8.6%.

Oh well...we'll try again next week.

UPDATE 1-DayStar restructures debt, to raise additional capital
Fri Jan 19, 2007 4:00pm ET160

Jan 19 (Reuters) - DayStar Technologies Inc. (DSTI.O: Quote, Profile , Research) announced a series of moves to restructure its finances, including the transfer of a $15 million senior convertible note to a new investor and a $5 million equity raising.

The moves triggered a 15.3 percent rise in the solar cells maker's shares to $3.31 on Nasdaq.

DayStar said it entered into an agreement with an investor under which the original investor will transfer the debt, a Class B warrant and the associated rights of each to the new investor.

Hi, kslifka.

I think the stock surged ON the news, and THEN had a sell-off.

Really not so strange, as it has had some turbulent days.

I like the re-structuring, and hopefully that will give the company some room to work again.

The president is supposed to give a speak early february (i think it is?) and it should give a good boost to all alternative energy stock.

Have a good weekend.

Looks like DSTI is starting to look real good and in a bullish light. Nice uptrend despite the massive sell off this past week. I know it's been said that alternative energy is a game not to be in but how can one look at this and argue? Solar stocks have been hot this past couple weeks. Is this a blip or a sign of a trend to continue? Any thoughts?

I own a little of DSTI.  I know it's expected that energy demands will go down as the global economy slows.  This should drop  the Price per Barrel of Oil.  I'm not sure how much of an effect it will have on alt. energy plays.  Solar and Wind seem to be the safer plays since the technology is all ready there.  Many solar companies revenues have been picking up as governments in Europe, China and some localities in the U.S. have been converting to solar power.

As far as DSTI.  I will sell at the 200dma as resistance or a drop below the 9ema...which ever comes first ;)

I have purchased and sold this so many times over the last 18 months, I guess this time I was a nervous nellie. I have never lost $$ on this stock but there is always a first. I never thought to use a 9ema to track this. It seems to be a great gauge of when to sell this one. I just made a bad intra day trade on Friday so I may have to have a much higher bail out than the 9ema. I timed it wrong and bought a bunch at 5.21. Man what a bone head move. I hope DSTI saves me.  8)

The Head and Shoulders bottom is referred to sometimes as an Inverse Head and Shoulders. The pattern shares many common characteristics with its comparable partner, but relies more heavily on volume patterns for confirmation.

As a major reversal pattern, the Head and Shoulders Bottom forms after a downtrend, and its completion marks a change in trend. The pattern contains three successive troughs with the middle trough (head) being the deepest and the two outside troughs (shoulders) being shallower. Ideally, the two shoulders would be equal in height and width. The reaction highs in the middle of the pattern can be connected to form resistance, or a neckline.

The price action forming both Head and Shoulders Top and Head and Shoulders Bottom patterns remains roughly the same, but reversed. The role of volume marks the biggest difference between the two. Generally speaking, volume plays a larger role in bottom formations than top formations. While an increase in volume on the neckline breakout for a Head and Shoulders Top is welcomed, it is absolutely required for a bottom.

Head and Shoulder Bottoms are one of the most common and reliable reversal formations. It is important to remember that they occur after a downtrend and usually mark a major trend reversal when complete. While it is preferable that the left and right shoulders be symmetrical, it is not an absolute requirement. Shoulders can be different widths as well as different heights. Keep in mind that technical analysis is more an art than a science. If you are looking for the perfect pattern, it may be a long time coming.

Analysis of the Head and Shoulders Bottom should focus on correct identification of neckline resistance and volume patterns. These are two of the most important aspects to a successful read, and by extension a successful trade. The neckline resistance breakout combined with an increase in volume indicates an increase in demand at higher prices. Buyers are exerting greater force, and the price is being affected.

Traders do not always have to chase a stock after the neckline breakout. Often, but certainly not always, the price will return to this new support level and offer a second chance to buy. Measuring the expected length of the advance after the breakout can be helpful, but don't count on it for your ultimate target. As the pattern unfolds over time, other aspects of the technical picture are likely to take precedent. Technical analysis is dynamic, and your analysis should incorporate aspects of the long-, medium- and short-term picture.
