Top 5 Pharmaceutical Company Signs Five-Year Extension of Services Agreement with Simulations Plus
Monday February 12, 9:15 am ET
Contract Signals Long-Term Demand for Simulations Plus' Software and Consulting Services
LANCASTER, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX:SLP - News), a leading provider of software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, today announced that a top 5 pharmaceutical company has signed a five-year extension to a master services agreement with Simulations Plus.
Ron Creeley, vice president of marketing and sales for Simulations Plus, said: "This contract extension adds to an agreement signed two years ago to provide consulting and software training services on demand for this large pharmaceutical customer. Although revenues from this agreement are expected to be modest in comparison to our software sales to this client, we believe that the agreement demonstrates the demand for our expertise in training for users of our software and consulting services. This company, whose name I can't reveal because of contractual obligations, seeks assistance from Simulations Plus' scientists when they're faced with particularly difficult projects involving complex oral absorption/pharmacokinetics during preclinical and clinical development."
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, added: "This customer is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, and was not only one of our earliest GastroPlus(TM) software customers but, in fact, was the source of our first study contract about eight years ago. Our close relationships and collaborations with the scientists in this customer's U.S. and European R&D sites have helped us to better meet their needs and to advance the state-of-the-art of our software. The fact that this agreement has been renewed and extended for a longer period than the previous agreements is a clear indication of the confidence and satisfaction placed in Simulations Plus scientists to provide valued assistance in software training and consulting activities."

Key Investment Considerations:
We are maintaining coverage of Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX: SLP) with a Speculative Buy recommendation and increasing our twelve-month price target to $10.80 per share from our prior price target of $8.15 per share. The increase in our price target is due to the growth prospects we anticipate for fiscal 2007 and 2008.
On February 26, 2007, SLP updated fiscal 2007 net sales guidance at its annual shareholders meeting. Management is estimating that fiscal 2007 top line results should increase by at least $2.0 million versus fiscal 2006 results, reaching approximately $7.850 million for the twelve month period ending August 31, 2007. On February 12, 2007, Simulations Plus announced that a top five pharmaceutical company signed a five-year extension to a master services agreement. This is a contract extension that adds to an agreement signed two
years ago. Based on updated public guidance from Management for fiscal 2007 and current licensing trends and renewals, we are adjusting our forecasts for fiscal 2007. Our net sales and net income forecasts are $7.846 million and $1.571 million or $0.18 per diluted share, respectively. Our prior forecasts called for net sales and net income of $7.241 million and $1.311 million or $0.15 per diluted share, respectively.
We are adjusting our estimates for fiscal 2008. Given current licensing trends, renewals, and potential for new customers, our revised net sales and net income forecasts are $9.695 million and $2.405 million or $0.28 per diluted share. Our prior forecasts called for net sales and net income of $8.270 million and $1.950 million or $0.23 per diluted share.

Simulations Plus Reports Second Quarter FY2007 Financial Results
Tuesday April 10, 9:15 am ET
First Six Months' Revenues up 73% and Earnings Jump 1384%
LANCASTER, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX:SLP - News), a leading provider of simulation and modeling software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, today reported preliminary financial results for the second quarter of its 2007 fiscal year (2Q07) ended February 28, 2007.
Ms. Momoko Beran, chief financial officer of Simulations Plus, stated: "Consolidated revenues for 2Q07 set a new record for any quarter at $2,534,000, an increase of 71% from $1,482,000 in the second quarter of fiscal year 2006 (2Q06). The previous quarterly record (4Q03) of about $2,100,000 included a 3-year contract for $1,200,000 that was booked up front. We now book revenues ratably over the life of the license/contract by billing our customers annually, so 2Q07 revenues are based only on revenues earned within 12 months. Revenues from pharmaceutical software and services were up 105% to $1,808,000 from $884,000 in 2Q06. Revenues for our Words+ subsidiary for 2Q07 increased 21.4%, to $726,000 from $598,000 in 2Q06. Consolidated gross profit increased 80.6% to $1,977,000 in 2Q07 from $1,095,000 in 2Q06. R&D expense increased 80.8% to $216,000 in 2Q07 from $120,000 in 2Q06, primarily due to expansions within our Life Sciences staff. Consolidated SG&A increased 36.1% to $936,000 in 2Q07, compared to $688,000 in 2Q06; however, as a percentage of sales, SG&A decreased from 46.4% to 36.9%. Major expense increases were selling expenses, such as commissions to dealers and trade shows, as well as printer/copier rental, salaries, and payroll-related expenses such as health insurance and payroll taxes, which outweighed decreases in professional fees.
"Net income before taxes for 2Q07 increased 185% to $856,000 from $300,000 in 2Q06. Second quarter earnings were impacted by a provision for income taxes of $188,000 that will not actually be paid, but rather will be a write-off from our deferred tax asset. EBITDA increased 148% for the second quarter to $1,120,000 or $0.12 per fully diluted share, as compared with $451,000 or $0.06 per fully diluted share for the second quarter of FY2006. Consolidated net earnings for the quarter increased 169% over last year's second quarter to $668,000, or $0.07 per diluted share based on 9,014,825 shares, as compared to $248,000, or $0.03 per diluted share for 2Q06, based on 8,180,450 split-adjusted shares. Thus, earnings per share increased by 144%, as compared to the analyst's estimate of 67%, even with the increase in number of fully diluted shares of over 10%. Cash increased by $1,534,000 to approximately $3,219,000 during the first six months of FY07."
Ms. Beran continued: "For the first six months of FY2007, consolidated revenues set a new six-month record at $3,990,000, an increase of $1,690,000 or 73.4% from $2,301,000 in the first six months of FY2006. Revenues from pharmaceutical software and services were up 143% to $2,632,000 from $1,083,000 in 2Q06. Revenues for our Words+ subsidiary increased 11.5% in the first six months, to $1,358,000 from $1218,000. In the first six months, consolidated gross profit increased 89.1% to $2,992,000 from $1,582,000; R&D expense increased 84.4% to $400,000 from $217,000, primarily due to expansions within our Life Sciences staff, and SG&A increased 28.6% to $1,693,000, compared to $1,316,000; however, as a percentage of sales, SG&A decreased from 57.2% to 42.4%. Major expense increases were for the same reasons described above for the second quarter.
"Net income before taxes for the first six months of FY2007 increased 1498% to $950,000 from $59,000. The first six months' earnings were impacted by a provision for income taxes of $209,000 that will not actually be paid, but rather will be a write-off from our deferred tax asset. Consolidated net earnings increased by 1384% to $741,000, or $0.08 per diluted share based on 8,812,656 shares, as compared to $50,000, or $0.01, based on 8,107,420 split-adjusted shares in the first six months of FY2006. Shareholders' equity at the end of the first six months was $6,607,000, an increase of 16.5% from $5,669,000 at the beginning of the fiscal year."
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, said: "To say that we're pleased to report these results is an understatement. Halfway through the year, revenues are already about $1.7 million ahead of last year. This is most of the estimated increase of $2 million revenues for the entire year that we provided in our latest guidance. We plan to update our guidance after the end of the third quarter. Our cash position is excellent and we continue to be debt-free. We're seeking acquisition opportunities, and we're usually in discussions with one or more potential candidates; however, there can be no assurances that we'll proceed with any of them. We have just submitted a second $100,000/6-month Phase I Small Business Innovation Research proposal to the National Institutes of Health, and we're told that the outstanding review we received on the $100,000/6-month proposal we submitted in December means it is very likely to be funded in June, but of course, there are no guarantees."
Woltosz continued: "Clearly, the excitement level is high at Simulations Plus, and the recognition we've received both in the industry and in the stock market over the last four months is satisfying. Recent scientific publications by both universities and our customers attest to the industry-leading position we enjoy with our major software products. We continue to believe that we are in a period of growing recognition on the part of the pharmaceutical industry that software tools like those provided by Simulations Plus are not a luxury; rather, they are an absolute necessity that repay their investment quickly and many times over."

I made a video analysis on SLP, here it is:
SLP is quite an interesting company with an healthy balance sheet, but it seems overvalued to me, trading at 13 times 2007 expected revenue and 75 times 2007 EPS.
It was a great buy at $5 - $7, but I believe it will have a serious correction now. Can be wrong though.

Key Investment Considerations:
We are downgrading our rating from Speculative Buy to Neutral on Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX: SLP), pending updated Management guidance. This is expected to occur upon SLP's third quarter 2007 earnings release during early July 2007. Between January 3, 2007 and April 25, 2007, in excess of three times the float or 11.170 million shares have traded. The heavy volume coincided with upward share price momentum. During the same time period (January 3, 2007 and April 25, 2007), SLP share price was as low as $5.05 and as high as $16.48. We believe price consolidation is likely over the next quarter or so. On April 10, 2007, the Company announced that second quarter fiscal 2007 net sales increased by 71% to $2.534 million versus $1.482 million in the same period last year. Net income increased to $0.668 million or $0.07 per diluted share versus $0.248 million or $0.03 per diluted share in the second quarter of fiscal 2006. Based on results for the first half of fiscal 2007, we are adjusting our net sales and net income forecasts to $8.505 million and $1.844 million or $0.21 per diluted share, respectively. Our prior forecasts called for net sales and net income of $7.846 million and $1.571 million or $0.18 per diluted share, respectively.
We are adjusting our estimates for fiscal 2008. Given current licensing trends, renewals, and potential for new customers, our revised net sales and net income forecasts are $10.545 million and $2.750 million or $0.30 per diluted share. Our prior forecasts called for net sales and net income of $9.695 million and $2.405 million or $0.28 per diluted share.

oversold imho
Q3 results should be out soon
yahoo MB quotation:
First of all there is no requirement for a company to provide any discussion associated with a Q release. The only legal requirement is that they file the financial results with the SEC by the required date. I think that's no later than 45 days after the end of the financial reporting period. If the end date falls on a week end or holiday the requirement is the next business day.
A form 8k is not required. Form 8k's are filed when there is relevant information that needs to be made available to stock holders. This is the formal way to communicate that a material event has or is expected to take place. The reason you see 8k's associated with earnings is because companies usually announce their earnings via a press release. Press releases are not considered formal announcements so an 8k is filled with reference to the press release. Press releases are not required so if there is no press release than the 8k is not required either. In other words, the 10Q which is the financial paperwork describing the results is the only requirement. Walt is a nice guy so he usually gives us a press release so that we have stuff in plain English on how things are going.
On guidance. At the last conference call Walt said that he is EXPECTING to provide revised guidance AFTER the end of the Q ending in May.
Two very meaningful points here... EXPECTING... This means that he hopes and plans to do so. He did not provide a guaranteed statement saying that it is for certain that he would.
Second: He said that this EXPECTATION should be AFTER the end of the Q3 ( At the end of May ). So... He did not say he would provide guidance at the end of May... He said he EXPECTS to provide guidance AFTER the end of May. That should be interpreted as follows: Maybe sometime after the Q is over.
Here is the text that he read during the CC:
http://sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1023459/000101968707001191/slide6.jpg
Now the good part... It will be a great Q with a fantastic future. No one else is doing what they are doing. The drug industry realizes that they have to quit using the brute force method for inventing new drug molecules and SLP has the stuff that will put them light years ahead. If you are in the drug discovery business and you find out that the FDA has purchased SLP software what brand software are you going to go out and buy??? It's gonna be OK... Hold your shares.

Simulations Plus Reports Third Quarter FY2007 Financial Results
Tuesday , July 03, 2007 09:15ET
LANCASTER, Calif., Jul 03, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX:SLP), a leading provider of simulation and modeling software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, today reported financial results for the third quarter of its 2007 fiscal year (3Q07) ended May 31, 2007.
Ms. Momoko Beran, chief financial officer of Simulations Plus, stated: "This quarterly report has come together more quickly than is customary. Part of the reason is that some information we need is now available more quickly in electronic format, while another part is that due to my travel schedule and also the schedule of our auditors, extra effort was made to complete certain tasks early. The result is that we were able to complete the 10Q much faster than normal. I hope future 10Q's will be released earlier than they were in the past, but I cannot guarantee it. Our next report will be our annual report, which requires considerably more preparation than the quarterly reports, so I don't think it will be released much earlier than it has been in the past."
Ms Beran continued: "I'm very pleased to report that consolidated revenues for 3Q07 set a new record for any quarter at $2,631,000, an increase of 47.1% from $1,788,000 in the third quarter of fiscal year 2006 (3Q06). The previous record for any quarter was last quarter (2Q07). Revenues in that quarter were $2,534,000, which included large pharmaceutical software licenses from two customers that accounted for about $1 million in revenues. In contrast, 3Q07 did not include any such large orders. Revenues from pharmaceutical software and services were up 51.3% to $1,659,000 from $1,097,000 in 3Q06. Revenues for our Words+ subsidiary also set a new record for any quarter at $972,000, an increase of 40.6% from $692,000 in 3Q06. Consolidated gross profit increased 53.6% to $2,080,000 in 3Q07 from $1,355,000 in 3Q06. R&D expense increased 91.0% to $227,000 in 3Q07 from $119,000 in 3Q06, primarily due to expansions within our Life Sciences staff. Consolidated SG&A increased 11.3% to $885,000 in 3Q07, compared to $796,000 in 3Q06; however, as a percentage of sales, SG&A decreased from 44.5% to 33.6%. Major expense increases were selling expenses, such as commissions to dealers and trade shows, investor relations, accrued bonus to officers, salaries, and payroll-related expenses such as health insurance and payroll taxes, which outweighed decreases in equipment rental and professional fees.
"Net income before taxes for 3Q07 more than doubled, with an increase of 118% to $1,003,000 from $460,000 in 3Q06. Third quarter earnings were impacted by a provision for income taxes of $221,000 that will not actually be paid, but rather will be a write-off from our deferred tax asset. Consolidated net earnings for the quarter also more than doubled with an increase of 103% over last year's third quarter to $782,000, or $0.09 per diluted share based on 9,180,629 shares, as compared to $386,000, or $0.05 per diluted share for 3Q06, based on 8,226,066 split-adjusted shares. Thus, earnings per share increased by 80%, even with the increase in number of fully diluted shares of almost 12%. Cash at the end of the third quarter was $3,038,000, with accounts receivable of almost another $3 million. Current assets were about $6.5 million, and current liabilities were less than $0.9 million, for a very healthy current ratio of about 7.3."
Ms. Beran continued: "For the first nine months of FY2007, consolidated revenues set a new nine-month record at $6,622,000, an increase of $2,533,000 or 61.9% from $4,089,000 in the first nine months of FY2006. These nine-month revenues exceed any previous entire fiscal year. Revenues from pharmaceutical software and services were nearly doubled, up 96.9% to $4,291,000 from $2,179,000 in the first nine months of FY2006. Revenues for our Words+ subsidiary increased 22.0% in the first nine months, to $2,330,000 from $1,910,000. In the first nine months, consolidated gross profit increased over $2 million, or 72.7% to $5,072,000 from $2,937,000; R&D expense increased 86.7% to $627,000 from $336,000, primarily due to expansions within our Life Sciences staff, and SG&A increased 22.1% to $2,578,000, compared to $2,112,000; however, as a percentage of sales, SG&A decreased from 51.7% to 38.9%. Major expense increases were for the same reasons described above for the third quarter.
"Net income before taxes for the first nine months of FY2007 more than tripled, with an increase of 276% to $1,953,000 from $519,000. The first nine months' earnings were impacted by a provision for income taxes of $430,000 that will not actually be paid, but rather will be a write-off from our deferred tax asset. Consolidated net earnings also more than tripled, with an increase of 249% to $1,523,000, or $0.17 per diluted share based on 8,893,882 shares, as compared to $436,000, or $0.05, based on 8,104,960 split-adjusted shares in the first nine months of FY2006. Shareholders' equity at the end of the first nine months was $7,682,000, an increase of 36% in the first nine months from $5,669,000 at the beginning of the fiscal year."
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, said: "When we reported the record second quarter, I wondered if we'd be able to beat it in the third quarter, knowing that we would not have the benefit of the two large orders that came in during the second quarter. I'm happy to report that not only did we beat it, but after three quarters, revenues are already almost a million dollars more than all of last fiscal year. Our cash position remains excellent and we continue to be debt-free. We're actively seeking acquisition opportunities; however, there can be no assurances that we'll proceed with any of them. We have received our first SBIR grant in the life sciences, and we have another proposal in review now."
Woltosz continued: "Simulations Plus is strong and getting stronger. We are experiencing continued growing demand for our products and services, and we continue to enjoy an outstanding reputation for high quality and attention to customers' needs. Our trailing twelve months revenues are now $8.4 million, and trailing twelve months earnings are over $0.19 per share. We expect to provide updated revenue guidance in our conference call, which will be on Thursday, July 5, 15 minutes after the market closes."
Q3 is excellent.
I think that nobody anticipated Q3 to be so strong! This means that
the products are gaining traction on the market. Q4 is expected to be
even stronger.
This company is way ahead of its own expectation and its stock price
is down from its top in April (healthy correction). As this company
is stronger than it was in April, I expect this stock to challenge
again its previous top. Today we're at $11.89, so we have a nice run
up until $16!
To state it differently, this stock has anything but good news, a low
float (3.64m), no debt, good cash flow, increasing revenues and net
income and a cheap price! As there has been a recent market
correction due to the past growth, there is no risk of further down
side.
The analyst covering this stock will have to upgrade his rating of the firm in the next days.
awesome, upgrade is coming soon ;)

chart:
This company is undervalued at current prices.
Something has changed in SLP. For the second consecutive quarter this
company is making more money in one quarter than in an entire fiscal
year!
For example,
2005 net income for the full year: 0.26 million.
2006 net income for the full year: 0.68 million.
In Q3, SLP made 0,78 million. That's 3 times more than for the full
year 2005 and 15% more than the full year 2006. In only one quarter!
The best is still to come as sales will continue to grow, may be even
stronger than before.
That's why I think that the current prices barely reflects the
company's current value (it is therefore undervalued) and by no mean
reflects its future value.
It is probably a very good time to accumulate at these low prices
before the analyst update SLP's valuation and the price go up again.
You could ask me: so why is the stock down? It is down because 3
months ago the stock price was too high. At that time, nobody believed
that Q3 could match Q2'results as Q2 incorporated several major deals.
Hence the drop. However, the unthinkable happened. Without any major
deal, Q3 beat Q2. This means that something on the business side has
changed. The consequence is that, at current prices, SLP becomes
undervalued again.
Had SLP missed Q3 entirely, shorting might have been correct. Shorting
this stock now is silly.
It is clear that now the upward potential is far greater than the
downward potential.
Q3 CONFERENCE CALL QUOTES
The CEO start by reviewing the different programs and gives an update on them.
ADMET Predictor:
"Revenues for ADMET Predictor has been growing nicely"
"ADMET Predictor is the most accurate on market"
Expanding the product to predict a standard test required by the FDA
The 100k grant is only the first step. The total amount could be up 750k in the future. CEO says that there is a "high probability" that SLP can get it. The money SLP get for free is some money they don't have to take out of earnings.
"the quality speaks for itself"
"rated number one in accuracy"

DDDPlus
"ACCEPTANCE IS ACCELERATING NICELY"
"other development activities that I won't discuss right away for COMPETITIVE REASONS"
GastroPlus:
"industry GOLD STANDARD"
"by far the industry's most advanced and wildly used simulation of oral absorption"
"very very satisfying"
"3 out of our 4 programs will have MAJOR NEW RELEASES IN THE COMING WEEKS"
about consulting contracts:
"consulting contracts continue to be a growing part of the business"

"WordPlus had a record quarter, We're very happy to see that"
"We don't want that cash just sitting there, WE'RE GOING TO PUT IT TO WORK"
"we believe this is an EMERGING HIGH GROWTH MARKET"
"pharmaceutical industry ADOPTION OF SIMULATION AND MODELING IS ACCELERATING"
"the growth has been tremendous, now a 0.17 EPS for 3 quarters. Analyst predicted 0.18EPS for the year"
debt free, strong cash position, world class scientific team
--- questions
revenue guidance "still early in fourth quarter and as most people know who's followed this for a while many sales seems to happen in the last couple of weeks"
"we're going to be a VERY CONSERVATIVE we're going to predict at least 2.9 million over last year in revenues. We feel that's a SAFE PREDICTION".
"I wouldn't give a number that I feel I could not beat."
My take on this: he should give a guidance that is not accurate. Some bashers on the yahoo board are using this to make it look like SLP has no future. This is highly dishonest and far from what has been said in the conference call.
Question about contract services:
how many contract this year compared to last year and for next year?
Answer: "momentum is continuing, we're getting unsolicited calls"
"2 or 3 contracts on-going constantly now"
Some contracts are short (a few weeks) and SLP makes 30k on them. Some contracts are much larger and take many month: 6 figures contracts (several 100k, no specific numbers).
"attracting some very talented people"
CC conclusion:
"I'm optimistic because I see that THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY IS TURNING TO SIMULATION AND MODELING MORE AND MORE AS A STANDARD PART OF RESEARCH."
"I think that managers have realized that PRODUCTIVITY OF THESE TOOLS IS SO HIGH THAT THE COSTS OF THE TOOLS IS ACTUALLY MORE THAN PAID for by savings of time and costs in other areas."

Key Investment Considerations:
We are upgrading our rating on shares of Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX: SLP) to Speculative Buy from Neutral, primarily due to excellent fiscal third quarter 2007 results, as well as expected positive growth trends over the next twelve months. We are setting a twelve-month price target of $12.75 per share based on our sales, EBITDA, and earnings per share forecasts for fiscal 2008.
On July 3, 2007, the Company announced that third quarter fiscal 2007 net sales increased by 47.1% to $2.631 million versus $1.788 million in the same period last year. Top line growth was led by pharmaceutical software sales, which increased on a year-over-year basis by 51.3%. Net income increased to $0.782 million or $0.09 per diluted share versus $0.386 million or $0.05 per diluted share in the third quarter of fiscal 2006.
Based on results for the first nine months of fiscal 2007 and Management's public guidance, we are adjusting our net sales and net income forecasts to $8.891 million and $2.041 million or $0.23 per diluted share, respectively. Our prior forecasts called for net sales and net income of $8.505 million and $1.844 million or $0.21 per diluted share, respectively.
We are adjusting our estimates for fiscal 2008. Given current licensing trends, renewals, and potential for new customers, our revised net sales and net income forecasts are $11.100 million and $2.790 million or $0.30 per diluted share. Our prior forecasts called for net sales and net income of $10.545 million and $2.750 million or $0.30 per diluted share.

Simulations Plus Releases ADMET Predictor(TM) Version 2.3
Tuesday , July 24, 2007 09:15ET
LANCASTER, Calif., Jul 24, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX:SLP), a leading provider of simulation and modeling software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, announced that it has released the next major upgrade to its industry leading ADMET Predictor software.
Dr. Robert Fraczkiewicz, team leader for ADMET Cheminformatics, said: "This new release, called version 2.3, adds both more accurate predictive models as well as a list of new features that have been inspired by user feedback and our own internal use of the program. ADMET Predictor already enjoyed best-in-class status by achieving number one ranking in every published comparison study for software that predicts properties of molecules from just their structure. In version 2.3, we have retrained all models with an enhanced set of molecular descriptors, resulting in even more accuracy in our predictions."
Ron Creeley, vice president of marketing and sales for Simulations Plus, added: "Sales of ADMET Predictor have been growing steadily over the past few years. We believe the integration of ADMET Modeler(TM) into ADMET Predictor last year as a single package and our unique position as number one in each of the independent comparison studies have been major contributors to increased interest in the program."

Simulations Plus Releases Unique DNA Mutation Predictor
Thursday , July 26, 2007 09:15ET
LANCASTER, Calif., Jul 26, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX:SLP), a leading provider of simulation and modeling software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, announced that it has released a unique new predictive capability as part of its new ADMET Predictor(TM) Version 2.3.
Dr. Michael Bolger, chief scientist for Simulations Plus, said: "One of the FDA-required tests for any new drug is for the potential to cause mutations in the DNA of various strains of salmonella. Salmonella is not just a single bacterial form; rather, there are thousands of different strains. In the past, we and others have built our predictive software models on data sets where the mutagenicity data were pooled for all strains. Simulations Plus' new predictive capability is not just one model, but a series of models based on data for ten different strains of salmonella. After months of work, we've developed a capability for predicting whether a particular new drug-like molecule is likely to cause mutations in any one of these strains. The overall predictive accuracy is improved with this approach over models built on pooled data for different strains."
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, added: "Our ability to create these new software models comes from a database we acquired as part of our Bioreason asset acquisition in November 2005. One of the many assets we acquired was a proprietary database of over 5,000 compounds with specific data for mutagenicity for ten different strains of salmonella that had been developed by scientists at Bioreason. We believe this mutagenicity database which we now own is unique, and that our new predictive capability is also unique, further enhancing our best-in-class structure-to-property prediction software, ADMET Predictor."

U.S. FDA Expands Simulations Plus Software Licenses
Wednesday, August 29, 2007 09:15ET
LANCASTER, Calif., Aug 29, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX:SLP), a leading provider of software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, today announced that it has received a purchase order from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for additional licenses for the Company's GastroPlus(TM) simulation software and new licenses for the Company's DDDPlus(TM) software as well. DDDPlus is the world's only in vitro dissolution software for the formulation scientist.
Ron Creeley, vice president of marketing and sales for Simulations Plus, said: "These software licenses are in addition to the GastroPlus license announced last January. We're excited that FDA scientists will have both GastroPlus and DDDPlus to assist in their simulation and modeling activities. GastroPlus continues to enjoy 'gold standard' status in the pharmaceutical industry, and DDDPlus remains the only software of its kind. Industry licenses for both products have increased nicely during this fiscal year."
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, said:
"As we noted in January, the FDA's position in advocating for better simulation and modeling tools was expressed in its well-known white paper entitled, 'Innovation or Stagnation, Challenge and Opportunity on the Critical Path to New Medical Products' released in March 2004. In it, the FDA stated: '. . . a new product development toolkit - containing powerful new . . . methods such as . . . computer-based predictive models . . . is urgently needed. . . . The medical product development process is no longer able to keep pace with basic scientific innovation. Only a concerted effort to apply the new biomedical science to medical product development will succeed in modernizing the critical path.'"

U.S. National Institutes of Health Licenses Simulations Plus' ClassPharmer(TM) Software
Thursday , August 30, 2007 09:15ET
LANCASTER, Calif., Aug 30, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX:SLP), a leading provider of software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, today announced that it has received a purchase order from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) for its best-in-class ClassPharmer software product.
"It's been a busy final week of our fourth fiscal quarter. This license for the National Institutes of Health follows the announcement yesterday of the FDA licenses for GastroPlus(TM) and DDDPlus(TM), and it adds another important government agency to our list of customers," said Ron Creeley, vice president of marketing and sales for Simulations Plus. "We believe these agencies serve as trend-setting organizations and examples to companies who work in pharmaceutical research and development."
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, said: "We acquired ClassPharmer 3.5 and ChemTK(TM) almost two years ago, and merged them into the new ClassPharmer 4.X versions. The dramatic improvement in performance of the new version has caught the attention of chemists worldwide, and ClassPharmer is now a major contributor to our revenues and earnings. We have evolved its capabilities into molecule design as well, with the release earlier this year of the R-Table Exploder feature. Together with our ADMET Predictor(TM) software, the combination now enables chemists to evaluate molecules they have already synthesized, as well as to automatically generate new molecules and evaluate them for a variety of important properties. We believe our continuously evolving capability to design new molecules in conjunction with ADMET estimation is an effective formula for fueling the growth of Simulations Plus."

Simulations Plus Reports Fourth Quarter and Fiscal Year 2007 Preliminary Revenues
Thursday September 6, 9:15 am ET
Another New Record Set for Quarterly and Annual Revenues
LANCASTER, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX:SLP - News), a leading provider of simulation and modeling software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, today reported preliminary revenues for the fourth quarter and for the entire fiscal year 2007 (4Q07 and FY07) ended August 31, 2007.
Ms. Momoko Beran, chief financial officer of Simulations Plus, stated: "Because we expect that it will be late-November or so before we can file our 10-KSB, we want to provide what information we can now for our investors regarding our performance for the 4th quarter and the fiscal year. The complexities of tax accounting and other factors mean we will not know exact earnings until the 10-KSB and all audits are completed, but at least we can provide information regarding revenues at this time."
Ms. Beran continued: "I'm very pleased to report that consolidated revenues for 4Q07 set a new record for 4th quarters at $2,170,000, an increase of 22.8% from $1,767,000 in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2006 (4Q06). The previous record fourth quarter was in FY03 when we booked a large three-year global pharmaceutical software license up-front. As we announced about two years ago, we no longer book multi-year licenses up-front, so this new record was achieved without the benefit of any such large order. Fourth quarter revenues from pharmaceutical software and services were up 38.5% to $1,395,000 from $1,007,000 in 4Q06. Revenues for our Words+ subsidiary were $775,000, an increase of 2.0% from $760,000 in 4Q06.
Ms. Beran continued: "For the entire fiscal year, revenues grew 50.2% to $8,792,000 from $5,855,000 in FY06, slightly exceeding our guidance of at least a $2.9 million increase in revenues over last fiscal year. Revenues from pharmaceutical software and services increased 78.5% to $5,686,000 in FY07 as compared to $3,186,000 in FY06. Revenues for our Words+ subsidiary increased 16.4% to $3,106,000 from $2,669,000 in FY06. The Company is financially strong, with over $4 million in cash at this time, and we remain debt-free."
Ron Creeley, vice president of marketing and sales for Simulations Plus, added: "As revenues grow year after year, it becomes more and more difficult to sustain a particular growth rate, much less to increase it, yet FY07 demonstrated sustained accelerated growth. This fiscal year, our customer base has grown from approximately 50 companies to approximately 80 companies. Increased orders from new departments within larger companies have also contributed to our growth, with almost every large pharmaceutical company increasing the number of licenses for Simulations Plus software, as well as a greater number of consulting contracts and our SBIR grant from the National Institutes of Health."
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, said: "It goes without saying that we're extremely pleased with our 50% revenue overall growth and 78% growth in pharmaceutical software and services revenues over last year. It is especially notable that this growth rate was achieved without the benefit of a single acquisition during the fiscal year. We had hoped to complete one or more before the end of the fiscal year, but that didn't happen. Nonetheless, our discussions are ongoing with such candidates for both the pharmaceutical and the disability sides of our business. This has been an exciting year in so many ways - strong sales, an ever-expanding world-class team that is innovative and dedicated, and an ever-growing list of outstanding collaborations with both government agencies and academia that we believe are crucial to our strategic growth initiatives."

Simulations Plus Announces Stock Dividend
Thursday September 13, 9:15 am ET
Board of Directors Approves Two-for-One Stock Split
LANCASTER, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX:SLP - News), a leading provider of simulation and modeling software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, announced today that its Board of Directors has approved a two-for-one split of the Company's common stock. The total number of authorized shares remains at 20 million. Each shareholder of record at the close of business on the record date of Monday, September 24, 2007, will receive a stock dividend certificate of one additional share for every outstanding share held on the payment date of Monday, October 1, 2007, with fractional shares rounded up to the next whole share. Trading will begin on a split-adjusted basis on the ex-dividend date of October 2, 2007. In accordance with the terms of the Company's Stock Option Plans, employees with stock options will benefit from the split by receiving twice the number of shares at one-half the exercise price for options granted prior to the record date.
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, said: "This dividend forward split will result in the total number of outstanding shares, including all possible options that may eventually be vested, of slightly over 19 million shares, with the public float increasing from about 4.16 million shares to about 8.3 million shares. We believe that increasing the number of shares in the public float is likely to increase liquidity and narrow the typical trading range for our stock, although there can be no assurances that either of these will happen. The board of directors has decided that a stock dividend is appropriate at this time because of our demonstrated sustained growth and our expectation that this will continue."
from IBD:
Simulations Plus Chief Executive Walter Woltosz has a name for his company's marketing strategy. It's called"Head Man Selling." In this case, Woltosz is the head man. He leads Simulations'SLP sales team and has only one marketing rep backing him up.
The company makes and sells predictive software for biopharma research and educational software for the disabled. Its scientists, 14 of whom have Ph.D.s, handle some of the salesworkas well. With only 40 people on the payroll, Woltosz decided to eliminate
themiddlemanto get customers. Simulations Plus has sent speakers or presenters to more than 40 major scientific meetings worldwide in the last three years. Those conferences give the company "a first hand sense of clients' wishes," Woltosz said. "We want our scientists not in here writing software. We want the mout there." They also travel to customer sites
to see what it's like to work in labs at drug giants such as Pfizer PFE, Eli Lilly and Bristol-
Myers. To boost its presence, Simulations recently added more scientists to the payroll. That was a good move, says analyst Howard Halpern of Taglich Bros., which does business
with Simulations Plus. "The increase is important since they all have the potential to bring
in new customers due to their knowledge and interaction," Halpern said.
THE FINANCIALS
Simulations has grown sales at least26%over the last five quarters.
The surge has come from a variety of sources, Halpern says, including "increased licenses from new customers, new modules to existing customers, expansion of additional licenses to renewal customers, and increased use of the company's contract services."
Sales gained 47% to $2.6 million during the fiscal third quarter, which ended in May. Profit doubled to 4 cents a share.
Halpern, the sole analyst following Simulations Plus, expects the company to post earnings of 23 cents a share for fiscal 2007, which ended in August. He sees profit of 32 cents for fiscal 2008.
International sales contributed 38%of the total during the first nine monthsof fiscal 2007.

Simulations was founded in 1981 and began working on software for biopharma research in 1996. Woltosz got the idea for predictive biopharma software while in the aerospace industry, where he worked on simulations for rocket motors and launch vehicles.
Simulations' software helps biopharmascientists quickly and cheaply predict potential new compound and drug behavior. The idea is to speed up drug development by obviating
dead-end lab work and clinical trials.
The company counts the top 25 biopharma firms as customers.
Pharmaceutical software provides 51%of revenue.
LOOKING AHEAD
Simulations Plus has $4 million in cash. That's enough to acquire new technology, Woltosz says. "We're in negotiations for acquisitions on both the pharma and disability side."
His goal is annual sales growth of 70% to 80%for the biopharma business and 50% for the company as a whole.

Simulations Plus and Enslein Research Sign Agreement
Thursday , September 20, 2007 09:15ET
LANCASTER, Calif., Sep 20, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX:SLP), a leading provider of simulation and modeling software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, and Enslein Research, Inc., of Rochester, New York, announced today that they have signed a collaboration agreement that will provide Simulations Plus with exclusive access to a database of metabolism measurements for an important group of Cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes that are involved in the metabolism of a large number of drug-like molecules.
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, said: "In our work with Enslein Research for over a year, we have combined the strength of our modeling methods in ADMET Predictor/Modeler with the meticulously detailed metabolism data that Dr. Enslein and his team have assembled from the scientific literature. The combination of their unique data set with our modeling methodologies resulted in a predictive model for the most prominent enzyme for human drug metabolism, known as CYP3A4. A major pharmaceutical company conducted a blind test on part of this model earlier this year using data from their own compounds where the metabolism had been measured, and the response was that this was indeed a very useful model. We are now in the process of building additional models for several more enzymes from this data set. The ability to predict metabolism for CYP enzymes will be an exciting addition to our ADMET Predictor capabilities."
Dr. Enslein added: "We have been pleased to work with the scientists at Simulations Plus for almost a year and a half on this very challenging problem of predicting metabolism kinetics from molecular structure. A few companies offer predictions for metabolism that only provide an indication of whether or not a new molecule is likely to be metabolized by a particular enzyme. Our data and models go further to estimate the rate of metabolism. With an estimated rate, a scientist can decide, for example, which of two molecules that are both likely to be metabolized by a particular CYP enzyme would be better to take forward into development. Without rate, the two could appear to be equal. Having this kind of quantitative estimate should provide yet another way to eliminate problem molecules early in the discovery process."
Ron Creeley, vice president of marketing and sales for Simulations Plus, said: "The resulting models from this exclusive agreement will be embodied in an extra-cost 'Enslein Metabolism Module' in our best-in-class ADMET Predictor software. Under the terms of the agreement, revenues received from licenses for this additional module will be shared with Enslein Research. Based on the encouragement we received from our large pharmaceutical company test, we believe that this will be a module that will be in wide demand. The cost of measuring metabolism in the lab is significant, so we expect this tool will help to lower costs and save time by identifying molecules that are likely to have very high rates of metabolism, and so would be undesirable compared to others with lower metabolic rates."
from TA perspective, tomorrow will be interesting imho...

I recommend right now in Emerging Growth is Simulations Plus (SLP). This is a very small outfit based in Lancaster, CA that makes computer programs that simulate absorption and pharmacokinetics for orally dosed drugs. Their programs are godsends for many medical professionals.
Yesterday, shares of SLP closed at just $4.62. Don't let this low price fool you. The stock is up 60% for the year. Best of all, the company is practically ignored by the major Wall Street brokerages. Some people think that's a bad thing. Not me—I love finding great stocks before the crowd. For the most recent fiscal year, revenues at SLP jumped 50% and the company is financially sound. There's zero debt and over $4 million cash. I rate Simulations Plus a strong buy up to $8 a share. But I should caution you that I also rate it as an aggressive stock which means that it's highly volatile. If you can stand the daily zigs and zags, then SLP is a great stock to own.

Simulations Plus Provides Preliminary Guidance for Fiscal Year 2008
Tuesday , December 18, 2007 09:15ET
LANCASTER, Calif., Dec 18, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Simulations Plus, Inc. (AMEX:SLP), a leading provider of ADMET absorption simulation and neural net structure-to-property prediction software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, today provided gross revenues guidance for its fiscal year 2008 (FY08) ending August 31, 2008.
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, said: "We hoped to complete at least one acquisition before the holidays so we could issue guidance that would include the effects of that acquisition. Unfortunately, it's taking longer than expected. So today we are providing guidance that reflects the growth we currently expect to achieve without acquisitions. Investors should note that this does not mean we no longer expect to complete them - the two we've discussed previously are still on the table. We believe they are both moving forward to completion early next year, although there can be no assurances that either one will be completed."
Woltosz continued: "Without acquisitions, we are forecasting an increase in gross revenues of at least $3 million for the fiscal year. We're basing this estimate on several factors: the growth we achieved in our pharmaceutical software and services business last fiscal year, the number and quality of leads we're working now compared to last year at this time, new product offerings nearing release, our general impression of the state of the pharmaceutical industry with respect to adoption of modeling and simulation tools, and our expectations for growth in our Words+ subsidiary."
Ms. Momoko Beran, chief financial officer of Simulations Plus, added: "We're pleased to report that preliminary first quarter revenues were $1,976,000, up 35.6% from $1,456,000 during the first fiscal quarter of FY07. Revenues from pharmaceutical software and services increased 74.5% to $1,438,000 from $824,000 in the first fiscal quarter of FY07. Revenues from our Words+ subsidiary decreased 15% to $537,000 from $632,000 in the first quarter of FY07. This would have resulted in a small decrease in consolidated first quarter revenues without the large pharmaceutical software order that came in the second quarter last year, but was received in the first quarter this year at the customer's request. We are encouraged to note that revenues from the pharmaceutical side of the business would have set a new first quarter record even without this early large order."

Simulations Plus Reports First Quarter FY2008 Financial Results
Monday January 14, 9:15 am ET
Revenues Increase 36%, Earnings Increase 232%
LANCASTER, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Simulations Plus, Inc. (Nasdaq:SLP - News), a leading provider of simulation and modeling software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, today reported its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2008 (1Q08) ended November 30, 2007.
Ms. Momoko Beran, chief financial officer of Simulations Plus, stated: "Consolidated revenues for 1Q08 were $1,984,000, an increase of 36.2% from $1,456,000 in the first quarter of fiscal year 2007 (1Q07) and a new record for first quarters. A large pharmaceutical software order that had been received in the second quarter last year came in during the first quarter this year; however, pharmaceutical revenues would have exceeded last year's first quarter even without that order. First quarter revenues from pharmaceutical software and services increased 74.5% to $1,438,000 from $824,000 in 1Q07. First quarter revenues for our Words+ subsidiary for 1Q08 decreased 13.8% to $545,000 from $632,000 in 1Q07. This decrease was due to our inability to ship Say-it! SAM Handheld Communicators during the first quarter after the supply of the previously discontinued PDA was exhausted, and before the new design was ready for release at the end of the quarter.
Ms. Beran continued: "Consolidated gross profit increased 47.6% to $1,498,000 in 1Q08 from $1,015,000 in 1Q07. R&D expense increased 23.0% to $226,000 in 1Q08 from $184,000 in 1Q07, primarily due to expansion of our Life Sciences staff. Consolidated SG&A increased 22.9% to $930,000 in 1Q08, compared to $757,000 in 1Q07; however, as a percentage of sales, SG&A decreased from approximately 52% to approximately 47%. The major increases in expenses were travel, investor relations, accrued bonus to the corporate Secretary, salaries, and payroll-related expenses such as health insurance, 401K, and payroll taxes, which outweighed decreases in commissions, telephone, supplies, and printer rental.
"Net income before taxes for 1Q08 increased 332% or $311,000 to $405,000 compared with $94,000 in 1Q07. First quarter earnings were impacted by a provision for income taxes of $162,000, of which $37,000 was accrued as a payable. Consolidated net earnings for 1Q08 tripled to $243,000, or $0.013 per diluted share, as compared to $73,000, or $0.004 per diluted share for 1Q07, even after allowing for a 7.8% increase in the number of fully diluted shares. Cash at the end of 1Q08 was $4,584,000, up more than double from $2,103,000 at the end of 1Q07. We believe shareholder equity is one of the best indicators of a company's growth. Our shareholder equity at the end of 1Q08 increased to $8,075,000, up 40.3% from $5,755,000 at the end of 1Q07, and up 5.3% from $7,665,000 at the beginning of the fiscal year 2008."
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, said: "Simulations Plus continues as a financially strong, steadily growing, debt-free company with best-in-class products and outstanding customer relationships. Our Life Sciences team continues to grow and to receive recognition from our industry peers worldwide. Our subsidiary business struggled a bit during the first quarter with the inability to accept orders for our handheld communication system, but our new design has now been released and shipments have been going out the door since the last few days of the first fiscal quarter. Going forward this fiscal year we are optimistic about our prospects for continued strong growth. We're also optimistic about our $750,000, two-year, Phase II follow-on Small Business Innovation Research proposal to the National Institutes of Health, and we expect to be announcing some important new collaborations in the near future. We continue to work hard to identify, research, and close strategic acquisitions that will strengthen both the pharmaceutical and the disability products businesses, and we hope to be able to announce results in the near future."

Question-and-Answer Session
Operator
(Operator Instructions) We will go first to Mr. Howard Halpern at Taglich Brothers.
Howard Halpern – Taglich Brothers
I'll dive in on a little bit about the shift in the revenues from the second quarter into the first quarter. Based on what you are seeing because last year in the pharmaceutical software area you did about $1.8 million in revenue. Do you believe that you will be able to grow that number even with that shift?
Walter S. Waltosz
I am not sure where your $1.8 million comes from. Last year we did over $5 million in pharmaceutical.
Howard Halpern – Taglich Brothers
No, for the second quarter.
Walter S. Waltosz
Oh, for the second quarter. Well we haven't said anything publicly about the second quarter but, the second quarter is looking very good at this time. I will leave it at that.
Howard Halpern – Taglich Brothers
Okay, so then with just my general math calculations and I know there's seasonality in the quarter, based on the first quarter increasing by $3 million year-over-year on a whole. On average you have to do in excess of $3 million dollars per quarter. Do I have that math correct?
Walter S. Waltosz
Yes. We did just under $9 million last year. So, we would have to do just under $12 million and in order to that we would have to be up on average $750 per quarter.
Howard Halpern – Taglich Brothers
I know that the third quarter normally tends to be seasonally strong based on past history at least.
Walter S. Waltosz
First quarter is almost always is the lowest. Not always but almost always the lowest.
Howard Halpern – Taglich Brothers
You know I think we have talked about it before but, the consulting contracts it is sort of getting your name out there and it is almost as good as marketing too. Have you seen recently conversions into customers buying the product?
Walter S. Waltosz
Yes. That's the good news and the bad news. The good news is that when they do license the product it becomes renewed year-after-year. The bad news is that we lose the consulting income. You can't have both. Once you teach them to use the product on their own then they are off on their own. It's a very good entrée, it's a good point you make there. Once we work with the customer and they see, not just what the product does but the thinking process and how to apply it to different kinds of analysis then they get comfortable with it and they start to think, "Well gee, why should we pay these guys to consult? We'll just license the software and do it ourselves." And, that is a good thing.
Operator
We have a question now from Dick Mills a private investor.
Dick Mills – Private Investor
Kind of almost a trivia question, I guess, the year ending August, why did you do that? And, have you considered going to a calendar year ending in December?
Walter S. Waltosz
Well when we started Words+ in 1981 we incorporated in September of that year and so we made that the beginning of our fiscal year and we just kind of stuck with that ever since. When we founded Simulations Plus we incorporated Simulations Plus in July of that year so we said, "Hey we're coming up on the fiscal year beginning for Words+. Let's just make them the same." There are some advantages, we end up hitting our auditing firms when they are not as busy as we would if we used the calendar year and everybody's doing there tax returns at the same time. We have a little bit of advantage that way. But, that is really why, it just kind of was tradition from 1981 with Words+.
Operator
(Operator instructions) We will go next now to Mr. Frank Gristina at MicroCapital
Frank Gristina – MicroCapital
I was hoping you could help those of us that are trying to drive revenue by explaining, I guess, in the Simulations revenue, what percent of that, you have been doing this for quite a while, what percentage of that would be renewal of licenses versus new seats sold? Is that something you can give us color on?
Walter S. Waltosz
Let me check with my CFO. Do you have an estimate for new licenses as opposed to renewals approximate in terms of revenue? She says it's probably our marketing and sales department that would be the better one to reply to that. But what you can typically see from year-to-year our renewals are very, very high. They are well over 90% typically. We do give a renewal discount but, in the majority of cases that I have seen, even with the discount we end up with a higher license fee because more seats are added or more software licenses are added for different programs that weren't licensed in the first year. So by and large the growth that you see, I would say that the new licenses taken by existing customers probably balances out the renewal discount to some extent. So, most of what you see in increases is going to be from new business from companies or department within very large companies that were not licensing software the year before.
Frank Gristina – MicroCapital
Okay. Just in terms of you have so many different products with different price points, is there any way that you can either give us an idea of how many active licenses you have, in terms of seats? Or, kind of an average AST for the difference seats?
Walter S. Waltosz
It is a little difficult to do that because some of the licenses are site licenses and so they're essentially unlimited, as many people that want to log on. But I would say what I tend to count is number of customers and even that is a bit misleading because Pfizer or GlaxoSmithKline or Lilly; any of the large companies count as one customer and yet they may have four, five or six sites and each site they may have 10 to 50 people working on projects that use our software. But, I would say it is probably reasonable to say that there are around 100 companies total, somewhere in that neighborhood and probably I am going to guess 500 users overall. Just to pull a number out of the air.
Frank Gristina – MicroCapital
Okay. I will take your guess out of the air over mine. And then, can you just in terms of the market size, again you are adding products and that is going to open up new markets but, I mean if you have 100 companies doing R&D and using these different seats what do you think the real addressable market is in terms of how many companies could you sell one or all of these products to over the next five years?
Walter S. Waltosz
Yeah, that is something that we, over the years we have kind of hesitated to answer but I think our confidence is building now because we are seeing so many of these smaller companies coming in now for initially for consulting work or sometimes coming right into a software license. Companies that we may not have even heard there name a year or two ago and now we have a relationship with them and these are world wide. These are in Asia, Europe and the United States.
Years ago we looked at something called the Atlas Directory, I have referred to it before in conference calls and there were 3,600 or something like that, firms that were in businesses either biotech or drug delivery and formulation companies or actual drug companies. And so if you count all of those and figure probably 20% maybe would be a reasonable number that might end up being able to use one or more of our software products you would see that we have just really scratched the surface. We have a long way to go. Now, the size of the company does make a difference but what we have found now is that the smaller companies are beginning to realize that these in silico tools are tremendous equalizers. They can develop analysis or design new drugs almost as fast as the big guys if they have the right piece of software and the expertise and the computing horsepower to run the programs. I think that is why we are seeing more and more adoption of the in silico or the computer based methods by the smaller companies. They are finally recognizing that it is not really an expense it is something that pays for itself.
Frank Gristina – MicroCapital
Great and last question, I mean when you think about you just said 20% of the directory.
Walter S. Waltosz
That came out of the same air as the other number.
Frank Gristina – MicroCapital
You would think that those are companies that are actually doing drug research and development. Out of that Atlas I imagine there are companies that probably don't develop or try to formulate new drugs. Is that how you are getting the 20%?
Walter S. Waltosz
Yes and that is a totally, totally wild guess. I can't substantiate that at all. It's just a feeling that when we look at all the companies that we see, you see a lot of companies that are supplying different kinds of equipment or supplies and stuff and obviously they are not going to use this type of software. But, just kind of a gut feel just looking at companies names that pop up in the different newsletters that I get, I would say about a fifth of them maybe are the ones that would be doing the kind of work where if we can convince them, they would be potential users of software.
Operator
We go now to Fred Milligan at Sanders Morris Harris
Fred Milligan – Sanders Morris Harris Group Inc.
With capitalized computer software development costs and the amortization of that, how much does that come to in a quarter? And could you break that up because potentially helps in regards to determining cash flow.
Walter S. Waltosz
[Inaudible] capitalized software developing costs per quarter. I am asking my CFO now if she has got that handy. I am finding that on the computer here. While she is looking that up let me point out for those that may not be familiar with this, when you develop new software tools some of the work that we do is ordinary maintenance, bug fixes or minor improvements and that is expense. When you are developing a new capability either within an existing program or brand new program, if it's a new capability once management has established that what you are doing is technically feasible, you know it can be done you just have to do it then, you can begin to capitalize the labor and so it becomes a capital asset. Until the time that that new capability is offered for sale and then you begin to amortize that and you can't capitalize that anymore unless you are developing something else that is a new capability.
You also have in this category acquired capitalized software development costs. So, when we did the Bioreason and Sage Informatics acquisitions in the fall of 2005 there was a certain amount of a couple $100,000 or so as I recall that also went into that capitalized software development asset. And, those began to be written down right away of course because as soon as we acquired the products we were selling them. So, we have in the asset itself right now we have a mix of both labor of our own that is capitalized and then the Bioreason acquisition capitalized assets.
So, for this quarter we looked at about $106,000 for Simulations Plus for the pharmaceutical side and about $10,000 for Words+ as the amortized part of the capitalized software development cost.
Fred Milligan – Sanders Morris Harris Group Inc.
Is that a [inaudible] quarter?
Walter S. Waltosz
Yes.
Fred Milligan – Sanders Morris Harris Group Inc.
Okay. You mentioned the R&D credit, tax credit that you get. What does it amount to roughly?
Walter S. Waltosz
Well it depends on the year and it depends on the law. They change the law every time they renew it. The house HR 2138 I think it is, that is under consideration now has proposed to make it up to 20% and permanent.
Fred Milligan – Sanders Morris Harris Group Inc.
20% of the R&D expenses?
Walter S. Waltosz
That would be 20% of the R&D expenses over a base. So, you have a base that you calculate. Originally, I think the base was calculated based on several years back in the 1980's if you were in business then, if not then you used an average over a certain period of years since you had started your business. But, the law changes every time they renew it and we just have to wait. Again, it is expected they always have done it for 25 years but more than half the time they have been late.
Fred Milligan – Sanders Morris Harris Group Inc.
On another subject, would it make any sense you mentioned consulting and actually over the last few years consulting has become a bigger part of the story, actually. Does it make any sense to break that out in terms of what the consulting fees are on a quarter-by-quarter basis?
Walter S. Waltosz
We haven't thought about that. You mean just for reporting purposes?
Fred Milligan – Sanders Morris Harris Group Inc.
You know for reporting to shareholders.
Walter S. Waltosz
I will talk with our CFO about that and see if it makes any sense.
Fred Milligan – Sanders Morris Harris Group Inc.
That would give you some idea as to the potential coming out of it.
Operator
(Operator Instructions) Walter it appears that we have no further questions this afternoon. Sir, I would like to turn the conference back to you for any closing or additional remarks.
Walter S. Waltosz
Okay well just to remind everyone I do use PowerPoint slides as a set of speaking notes for the conference call and if you would like a copy of those you can request those either by calling the company or just send us an email at

Key Investment Considerations:
We are reiterating our Speculative Buy rating on shares of Simulations Plus, Inc. (NasdaqCM: SLP), as we are forecasting positive growth trends for fiscal 2008 and believe those trends will continue into fiscal 2009. We are lowering our twelve-month price target to $5.00 per share versus our prior target of $6.40 per share (primarily due to a contraction of multiples).
Our price target is based on our sales and EBITDA forecasts for the next four quarters.
On December 11, 2007, SLP announced that a top three pharmaceutical company issued a purchase order to renew their global software license and to convert it from a single year license to a multi-year license. Management stated that it believes this multi-year multi-site renewal commitment confirms that this company has embraced SLP's technology so
that their research scientists will use the software for another 3 years. On January 14, 2008, the Company announced first quarter fiscal 2008 net sales increased by 36.3% to $1.984 million versus $1.456 million in Q1 of fiscal 2007. Top line growth was led by pharmaceutical
software sales, which increased on a year-over-year basis by 74.5%. Net income increased to $0.243 million or $0.01 per diluted share versus $0.073 million or $0.00 per diluted share in the same period last year.
We are adjusting our estimates for fiscal 2008, given current licensing trends, renewals, potential for new customers, growth of contract services, and Management's public guidance. Our revised net sales and net income forecasts are $11.819 million (prior was $11.540)
and $2.303 million or $0.12 per diluted share (prior was $2.275 million or $0.12 per dilute share. Also, we are issuing our initial forecast for fiscal 2009, which calls for net sales of $15.335 million and net income of $3.235 million or $0.17 per diluted share.

from yahoo:
Paul is a SLP stock holder since right after the IPO in 1997. Here
are his notes as posted on Yahoo... I did not attend.
Friday February 29th, 2008
Twas a beautiful day in Lancaster, CA.
There were no major revelations nor did Walt touch on the Q2 earnings.
He seemed even more careful than usual to avoid any topic that was not
clearly public information.
The slides he spoke from were very detailed and he said they would be
available from the company.
I jotted a few notes... but because of the slides I didn't take a lot.
1. The grant is looking good with a possible 750K over two years
available.
2. DDD Plus is taking hold and showing Q over Q increases.
3. Gastro Plus is working on adding eye drug dosing, nasal spray, oral
cavity absorbtion, and drug-drug interaction. I couldn't specify
exactly where each one is in the process.
4. The consulting service is very productive. It is leading to
licenses being sold, and improvements to the software. Walt outlined
the benefits of the sciense team working with the product on real
world applications and with varying data sets. It helps them to
experience what is user friendly and what can be improved. It also
stretches them when they encounter challenges they haven't seen
before. And they help scientists who don't recognize a pattern that
the SLP folks do because they have used the software themselves.
5. The new Word PDA is on line and selling well. It is very colorful
and looks "cool." The casing is an "in house" design.
6. New companies are calling to get information. Existing companies
are expanding their licenses. For the sake of booking several larger
companies are seeking 3-5 year purchase orders. Still booked one year
at a time.
7. Aquisitions for both the Pharma and the Word side are being
pursued. Only profit showing business will be aquired. No details were
given or even hinted at.
8. Cash well above 4.5 million. No debt.
9. Important collaborations are still in the works.
10. Walt addressed the split and the drop in the price. The split was
to address the issue of liquidity for the funds, etc. Walt joked that
a reverse split probably wouldn't be a good idea. They are just
commited to moving the company forward and growing the business. That
will take care of the share price. He is also aware that the tax
glitch cost them some market momentum.
Conclusion: SLP is a growing, debt free company, with cash in the
bank. They have 14 PHD's who are building relationships throughout the
research industry and thinking of non pharma industries to penetrate
with their various products. As well as improving current products and
working on new ones.
There are many things in the works... Walt isn't specifying.
With the overall economy taking a whipping it is evident that SLP is
growing and solid. The forward looking P/E is much lower than the
highs of this past year. I left the meeting with a very optimistic
sense of this companies future.
One of the intangibles I took away was Walt sharing how scientists
from companies around the world have personal relationships with the
SLP PHD's. They email questions, concerns, suggestions, etc. I know
for myself that support is a huge factor when I am frustrated with my
computer. How much more does it mean to a scientist in Japan, England,
etc. to email a question to SLP and have another PHD shoot back an
answer? That is just one of the strong "vibes" that you get from
sitting at the shareholder meeting. There is a credibility to what
these people are doing that the stock price doesn't reflect.

Simulations Plus' CEO Addresses Investor Inquiries
Friday , March 07, 2008 09:15ET
LANCASTER, Calif., Mar 07, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Simulations Plus, Inc. (Nasdaq:SLP), a leading provider of software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, today provided an update on the company's operations and financial status in response to numerous investor requests in light of the current stock price.
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, said: "It is not our policy to issue press releases in response to market fluctuations. However, the recent market activity has prompted a significant number of investors to contact the company requesting a public comment, so we are making an exception at this time.
"First, let me say that there is no adverse event or condition within the company that has precipitated the recent Simulations Plus' stock price decline. We continue to aggressively pursue our growth strategies which include the acquisitions we have mentioned in earlier public statements and major updates to three of our pharmaceutical software products: GastroPlus(TM), ADMET Predictor(TM), and ClassPharmer(TM). The updates to these three programs, which continue to be the leading software of their kind in the industry, are on schedule and include significant capability enhancements. Simulations Plus is a growing company with proprietary technologies that serve the pharmaceutical industry where we believe growth opportunities abound. The application of simulation and modeling technologies in the pharmaceutical industry is decades behind other industries, and this provides the opportunity for us to fill what we believe is a severe unmet need."
Ms. Momoko Beran, chief financial officer of Simulations Plus, added: "Although second quarter results will not be reported until April, I can say at this time, in spite of the large software reorder that was received in the first quarter of this year rather than in the second quarter as it was last year, our pharmaceutical software and services revenues and the company's total revenues made up for a large portion of that order. As a result, for the first six months, revenues are ahead of last year's first six months. Final numbers will be provided in the quarterly report which we expect to be released not later than April 14. The company's cash has now increased to over $5.5 million and of course, we remain debt-free. We have hired a tax consultant and preliminary indications are that we may have overestimated our tax burden for this year, and that we may recover tax credits from previous years, although there can be no assurances at this time that either will materialize."

Simulations Plus' Software Selected Application of Choice by Premier Pharmaceutical Company
Thursday , April 03, 2008 09:15ET
LANCASTER, Calif., Apr 03, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Simulations Plus, Inc. (NASDAQ:SLP), a leading provider of software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, today announced that the pharmacokinetics, dynamics, and metabolism science board at a top three pharmaceutical company named its GastroPlus(TM) software an "application of choice." The client also issued a purchase order for additional software licenses at several of its research sites, which expands the number of users in their existing global multi-year software license agreement that began in December 2007.
Ron Creeley, vice president of marketing and sales for Simulations Plus, said: "This is a clear indication of the acceptance of Simulations Plus' software at the highest scientific and business levels of this top three company. Our achievement of designated vendor status with this company means our software is more widely available to research scientists at the organization, and streamlines purchasing procedures whenever the company obtains products or services from Simulations Plus."
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, added: "As pharmaceutical companies face a significant number of patent expirations in the near future, there is a need to become more aggressive in research and development to fill the pipeline, sometimes with reduced R&D staff. Productivity tools like GastroPlus(TM), ADMET Predictor(TM), ClassPharmer(TM), and DDDPlus(TM) leverage the expertise of the industry's scientific teams. We believe that the difficulties facing some parts of the pharmaceutical industry will result in greater use of such tools as managers realize that the savings in time and money that can be achieved through their application vastly exceeds the cost of obtaining and learning to use them."

SLP: Receives Purchase Order from FDA to Renew Sim Software License
Wednesday, April 09, 2008 09:20ET
By Michael Cavallaro,
[email protected]Simulations Plus, Inc. (NASDAQ:SLP) has received a purchase order from the FDA to renew one of the licenses for the Company's GastroPlus simulation software and to add the newly introduced ADMET Predictor Module for GastroPlus. Ron Creeley, vice president of marketing and sales for Simulations Plus, said: "This module will allow FDA scientists to load molecular structures directly into GastroPlus, which will then automatically invoke the ADMET Predictor Module to calculate the inputs needed by GastroPlus to simulate absorption for each of the molecules. The ADMET Predictor Module calculates these properties from molecular structure with the same top-rated structure-to-property prediction engine used in our full-version ADMET Predictor program, providing best-in-class estimates for physicochemical and biopharmaceutical properties for each molecule. GastroPlus takes these predictions and automatically builds a database with supporting tables to save scientists considerable time and effort."

Simulations Plus and Northeastern University to Collaborate on Solubility Measurements
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 09:15ET
LANCASTER, Calif., May 28, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Simulations Plus, Inc. (NASDAQ: SLP), a leading provider of simulation and modeling software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, announced that it has signed an agreement with Northeastern University to fund a research project that will measure solubilities in biorelevant fluids.
Dr. John Crison, director of life sciences for Simulations Plus, said: "The solubility of new drug molecules is usually measured in laboratory experiments either in pure water or in buffer solutions. These are not the same as the fluids in the gastrointestinal tracts of humans or other animals, and it's important for scientists to know what level of solubility to expect when drugs are dosed in animals and humans. In fact, one of the critical inputs to our GastroPlus(TM) software is the solubility of the drug at different values of pH. For ionizable compounds, the solubility can change by many orders of magnitude as pH changes. GastroPlus accounts for this by calculating the change in solubility as pH changes in different parts of the gastrointestinal tract."
Dr. Crison continued: "But pH is only one factor affecting solubility. Fluids in the human gastrointestinal tract contain a number of substances that can also affect solubility in complex ways. This study will measure the solubility of approximately 200 different drugs in simulated gastric fluid (SGF), fasted state simulated intestinal fluid (FaSSIF), and fed state simulated intestinal fluid (FeSSIF). These simulated biorelevant fluids include representative amounts of other substances that influence in vivo solubility."
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, added: "Solubility is a major concern in the development of many new drugs, so we're very pleased to begin this collaboration with Dr. Rebecca Carrier and her lab at Northeastern University. Dr. Carrier was formerly at Pfizer and while there she developed considerable expertise in the study of solubility and dissolution. We believe that with the data that will be generated from this study, we will be in a better position to estimate the solubility and dissolution of new drug molecules in various parts of the gastrointestinal tract. We also expect to build a model to adjust solubilities measured in typical lab experiments to those that would be experienced in vivo, and to include that model as another valuable prediction in our ADMET Predictor software. This is the first such investment we've made. We're looking for other such investment opportunities to further the science in our field while enhancing our products and services."
Ron Creeley, vice president of marketing and sales for Simulations Plus added: "In addition to the value provided to our own software and services, the unique database that will be developed under this collaboration will be a product in its own right. We believe many companies will be interested in licensing the database in order to better understand how in vivo solubility differs from that in buffer solutions. Especially for the many smaller companies who would not want to invest the entire amount needed to complete such a study, licensing the results for a much lower price will make economic sense."

Simulations Plus Releases Major Software Update for Its Top Rated Predictive Software
Wednesday, July 02, 2008 09:25ET
LANCASTER, Calif., Jul 02, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Simulations Plus, Inc. (NASDAQ:SLP), a leading provider of simulation and modeling software for pharmaceutical discovery and development, announced that it has released Version 3.0 of its best-in-class ADMET Predictor software for predicting properties of molecules from only their structures.
Dr. Robert Fraczkiewicz, team leader for ADMET (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion and Toxicity) Cheminformatics for Simulations Plus, said: "This major upgrade to ADMET Predictor provides 14 new predicted properties as well as new retrained models for our previously top-ranked predictions. New predictions include eight models for metabolic inhibition and five for intrinsic clearance that were added to our previously released Enslein Metabolism Module. The initial Enslein Metabolism Module predicted rate of metabolism by certain enzymes, but not the potential for inhibition of metabolism that can cause significant drug-drug interactions with other drugs that are metabolized by the same enzymes. We've also added a new environmental toxicity prediction based on data originally generated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency."
Dr. Fraczkiewicz continued: "In ADMET Predictor 3.0, we've incorporated the innovative technology we developed under last year's SBIR grant and subsequent internal R&D to rapidly calculate partial atomic charges. ADMET Predictor's new partial atomic charge calculations provide over 50 new descriptors that serve two purposes. One is to train mathematical models that correlate predicted properties with descriptors. The second is to provide a new visualization tool that lets chemists see charge distributions of various kinds directly on a drawing of the molecule - an important tool that gives chemists insight into why molecules behave the way they do and how to modify their structure to achieve certain goals. In the past, calculating these charge descriptors would have required as much as a day or more per molecule. Our breakthrough methodology calculates these charges at the rate of hundreds of thousands of molecules per hour, with a similar level of accuracy."
"In addition, we improved ADMET Modeler to better select descriptors during model building," added Dr. Fraczkiewicz. "This resulted in new models with significantly fewer descriptors, an important development because models that cover the widest range of new chemistry are generally those with the smallest number of descriptors. Another enhancement to ADMET Predictor is the addition of a state-of-the-art graphics engine called Miner3D(TM), which allows the scientist to visualize multidimensional relationships among properties and descriptors quickly and conveniently."
Walt Woltosz, chairman and chief executive officer of Simulations Plus, said: "In silico (computer) property predictions provide chemists with the fastest possible means of filtering out poor molecules from large molecular libraries as they search for new medicines, and now ADMET Predictor's top-ranked predictions are better and cover even more properties than previous versions. The tight integration we now have between ADMET Predictor and our ClassPharmer(TM) software product means that the de novo design capabilities of ClassPharmer will now also be enhanced, allowing chemists to automate the generation and screening of new molecular structures to a new level. The potential number of new drug-like molecules is said to be more than the number of grains of sand in the world, yet most of them will never become drugs because of undesirable properties. ADMET Predictor and ClassPharmer are at the forefront of their technologies for increasing the productivity of pharmaceutical scientists in this exceedingly difficult task."
