Good morning !
I'm about to sell GOAM, as I've explained on the daily newsletter. That will leave about 33% of capital available to buy a new stock on fire, so please, bring me good suggestions :)
I guess my daily capacity is about 20 new stocks, so, you know, the first 20 stock symbols I get as a reply to this post will probably be the ones that will be covered.
But you can continue talking about stocks and trading strategies all day if you please. This is your thread !
Thanks for your participation :)
SCUR beats consensus, guides higher. wish I'd bought more. As MF says, this could be the stock to own in 2007. Looks good for tommorrow.

Technically, the medium term trend is still bearish but the resistance only comes at around $12.5, so plenty of upside. The short term chart below shows the possibility of a reversal island, from bearish to bullish.
Fundamentally:
- Market cap is $538 M. Develops network security solutions that allow organizations to exchange critical information safely with their customers, partners and employees;
- Balance sheet: ugly, negative working capital of $29.4 M. Long term debt of $110 M;
- Revenue trend: Nice, growing every year since 1999. $174.6 M revenues in fiscal 06. Price to sales ratio is 3.08. The industry average is 1.71. Looks rich;
- EPS trend: awful, ($0.76) EPS loss in 2006.
- Guidance: Non GAAP income of $0.03 - $0.04 per share in Q1 2007. That gives me about $0.12 EPS for a full year (non GAAP). And that means an earnings multiple of 70.
I don't know what Motley Fool sees in the company, but I don't see anything that leads me to buy the stock. I dislike it.
Good luck, though :)
LMRA on fire. Just dont bet too much on this, but its still one of the best one when it gets going.

Unfortunately it is heading south now, declining 7% as I write. It hit the $0.0175 resistance level earlier in the session (at least according to my quote machine). The medium and long term trends are bearish.
Fundamentally:
- Market cap is $1.2 M. Engaged in the research and development of bio-terrorism detection devices
- Balance Sheet: very bad, negative working capital of $3.33 M. Needs to keep selling shares in the open market to survive
- Revenue trend: Just $111 K in revenues over the past 5 quarters
- Losing half of its market cap every quarter
Needless to say I'm not buying this stock, but thanks for the suggestion :)

HAYZ
The long term trend is now bullish, and so is the short term trend. The stock today opened with a big gap up, and it may come down to close that gap, depending on the significance of the news that made it gap up.
Fundamentally:
- Market cap is $206 M. A supplier of wheels, wheel-end attachments, aluminum structural components, and automotive brake components
- Balance sheet: weak, with a current ratio of 1.41 and long term debt of $667 M
- Revenues are stable around $580 M a quarter. Price to sales ratio is very low at 0.08. The industry average is 0.52
- Losing big money every quarter, for the past 4 quarters. Lost $59 M in Q3 alone
The news today is:
• Hayes Lemmerz Announces Additional Initiatives Aimed at Streamlining Its North American Businesses (http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/070202/nyf038.html?.v=74)
PR Newswire (Fri 6:54am)
They're selling some divisions and closing facilities to pay down debt. I don't think that changes the fact that they're losing big money, due to intense competition from foreign manufacturers.
I'm not a fan, this news might already have been discounted by the previous 200% rise in just 2 months or so.
Good luck :)

Hi David! I'm not sure. I guess you analyzed TGX. Which is the link?
Thanks!
TGX, what a run, certainly on fire(http://mdteague.com/JumpnFLame)
Some fundamental considerations:
- Market cap of $150 M, a Medical Appliances & Equipment company;
- Balance sheet: very strong !
- Revenue trend: positive and accelerating;
- EPS of $0.11 in Q4, going up from $0.05 in Q3. But that was because of a special tax gain of $1.8 M, otherwise EPS would have been $0.05, the same as in Q3.
- Annualize $0.05 EPS and get EPS of $0.20 for a full year. PER is about 24, and the industry average is 38.
TGX looks undervalued here, it can go up 60 or 70% more just to be valued in line with its industry.
SIMO is doing great. 600 M market cap. I know it's more than your limit, but I think it's interesting!!

Potentially a $20 stock? Recently moved to the Nasdaq? That might explain the recent increase in volume, the stock almost had no volume until 2007 began.
Technically it has a resistance at its all time high of $13.48. Not on fire today, trading just 67,000 shares and below the open as I write, after a small gap up at the open.
Fundamentally:
- Market cap is $207 M ... develops, engineers, manufactures and sells a wide array of customized linear motors and other special motors
- Balance sheet is very strong with $61 M in cash
- Revenue trend is extremely positive. Revenues are growing 39% from 2005 levels
- Very profitable with a 43.6% net profit margin. Beating estimates by a wide margin, I expect EPS of $0.92 for the full fiscal 2006. That means the trailing earnings multiple is 13.4. If revenues grow 39% again in 2007 and the net profit margin is maintained at 43.6%, I see EPS of $1.4 for 2007, so the forward earnings multiple is about 9.
I don't know how they are able to be so profitable, but the fact is that they are. I think you're correct, I could easily see it as a $20 stock.
Not what I'm looking for the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/3stocksonfire_3sof.php), but it looks like a sound long term investment. Good luck :)
Well David, your success at 3SoF is great but even greater is the main portfolio.
Now let me share a secret here. I tried on my own to trade but I found that it saner to follow someone with proven record then to feed on own's ego. So today I gave up and bought AMKR, ARRS, DIET, OFI, WCG, XING, ZQK, besides I was already holding ASPV and CPNE.
I know some of these will go down some will up but I will stick to your buy/hold/sells. Thank you.

COGO .. a china play with sound fundamentals (or so I have heard....)
Technically COGO's chart is bullish on a long and medium term time frame. But not on fire today, as the stock is trading down 1.3% on the session on low volume.
Fundamentally:
- Market cap is $525 M, so above our maximum limit for the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio, as you can read on the FAQ (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=8739.0). The Company and its subsidiaries provide customized module design solutions to various manufacturers in China.
- Balance sheet is healthy. Current ratio at 3.75, no long term debt, $33 M in cash
- Revenue growth is strong. Revenue estimates are for $165 M in 06 and $204 M in 07. Price to sales ratio is 3.33, the industry average is 1.17.
- Expected EPS of $0.52 for 06 and $0.68 for 07. So trailing earnings multiple is 31 and the forward multiple is 24.
COGO shows attractive fundamental trends, but that's already discounted by the share price. It's priced in. Any small disappointment and the stock will tank.
I consider it fully valued, thanks for the suggestion :)
Hi - Let's try not to waste David's time with stocks that are not within the scope of the portfolio. ADM and ICE are both multi billion MC companies, and ADM for one, is definitely not on fire today. I suggest we all reread the FAQ and suggest stocks that fit the criteria!

You know you may be right but ADM was on fire yesterday and maybe by putting some of these stocks out here, they could be put to use in the main portfolio. ICE has more than doubled in 6 months with no signs on stopping and would be awesome for the main portfolio but it is also expensive too but he could just ignore it. I really don't care. Just takes seconds to ignore someones post and could have been just as easy for you to do the same. I have owned ICE since June 06 and I am not complaining in the least. Holding this sucker long term. If this hasn't been on fire, I don't know what has.

LMRA on fire. Just dont bet too much on this, but its still one of the best one when it gets going.
LMRA is below the open now, so not on fire. It is a $74 M market cap company, for just $2.4 M in revenues for the past 4 quarters, and it lost $11.6 M over those 4 quarters.
It went up in just a couple of weeks and now is taking months to come back down, but I guess that, with time, it will be a less than $2 stock again.
Can be wrong, though, thanks for the suggestion :)
I agree David. Bought SYX and MSI, but sold ZQK. Can only hold 10 in the portfolio [since 10% each of my nano portfolio].

Hi, David
Any comment on Zica, thanks
After a 61.8% Fibonacci retracement from its previous rally, ZICA is attempting to start a move to retest those highs at $2.85.
Let's see what fundamental analysis says about the stock:
- Technology company in the wireless space with $95 M of market cap;
- Balance sheet is weak with cash levels declining and a current ratio of just 1.4;
- Revenue trends don't show any growth;
- Losing about $2.8 M a quarter;
- The stock was up a lot in December 22 and 23, due to the following news:
• Zi Corporation Launches Qix with T-Mobile in the UK (http://biz.yahoo.com/iw/061222/0197905.html)
Market Wire (Fri, Dec 22)
The press release doesn't provide any financial details. I don't think the news is enough to turn fundamental trends around, and ZICA will need to dilute shareholder's value due to short term liquidity problems (their cash on hand isn't enough to sustain the losses of just one quarter, so they will sell shares through a PIPE placement or in the open market).
Therefore, my outlook on ZICA is unfortunately negative.»

Hi Lance - Didn't mean to get you riled up there, but me being able to ignore the post or not isn't the point. I know David will be more than happy to spend his time with your requests, but since they don't fit in this portfolio, we're essentially wasting his time that could be spent on more...fitting companies.

David would you like to look into MVIS potential?
I covered MWIS.OB on the 26th of January, when it was at $0.27, here's my take on it:
MWIS.OB 3 minute look:
http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docId=-5062009513515312685&hl=en
A lot of hype due to the deal with The Sun from England, but they already had a similar deal with the Times and only generated $499 K in revenues over the 3th quarter, so I don't think the news can support the current $34 M market cap for long.
Anyway, awesome trade for boatguy, good luck :)
Sorry MVIS or MWIS?

I probably should have bought it to the Main (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/3stocksonfire.php), but I don't fully understand the business model (I don't even know what "limb" means, let me see on the dictionary ... ok, now I know).
I like the stock, both from a technical and fundamental perspective, but I'm not buying it today to the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio. Volume is too weak for the magnitude of the move. But I'm pretty positive it will continue to trend higher over time, I just know if it won't pause for a couple of weeks around current levels.
Good luck :)

Let me put MVIS on the list, thanks :)
HOKU
David I like your stile.Even for the trading /3sof/ you are trying to find stocks with good fundamental not just p&d.
We're half way into the session and I made comments on 15 stocks so far: AMKR, SCUR, UDTT, HAYZ, IBIN, CLDN, ADM, TGX, RFSS, HRBN, COGO, LMRA, ZICA, MWIS and HGR.
I still have ONEV.OB, BRLC, AVZA, RSFF, SIMO and MVIS on my list.
From these the only one I'm considering is AVZA. But I wonder if there isn't a better bet outthere to buy today.
Let's spend the next two hours looking for stocks on fire, ok?
A stock on fire is:
- The market cap needs to be less than $500 M. Probably the smaller, the better
- Volume must be above the recent average (and above $500 K traded today)
- It must be showing a white candle, that is, must be trading above the opening level, telling us demand is outstripping supply
- It should be up at least 5%
So, here's what we're going to do. Just bring me symbols that meet these conditions for the next two hours. I won't cover them, will just look at them for myself, and will probably buy one of those. I'll make a full analysis for that one.
I want to buy 1 stock on fire today, thanks for your participation :)

David I like your stile.Even for the trading /3sof/ you are trying to find stocks with good fundamental not just p&d.
Thanks cramercramer. What is p&d?
I look for attractive fundamentals, not just technicals, because I don't like to lose money, being one of the last ones to buy, when people are already starting to dig the fundamental landscape and wondering if they shouldn't sell.
Here's how I see the stock's speculation game. A stock rallies. Cowboys go after it. And then calculus are made. If the calculus supports the move, it will move more. If not, it will fall back. Doing those calculus puts me in advantage when compared to the pure technical player, because he's just following momentum, but that keeps changing, even on an intraday basis, so he gets totally confused. Sometimes he wins, sometimes he loses. On balance, I don't think he makes any money, because he's just doing what everybody else is doing, but he doesn't know why, so he has weakest hands.
Anyway, let's look for stocks on fire ;)

I'm afraid of it, I think they're looking to dilute shareholder's value, because they're producing TV's at a loss, according to StockLemon (I know, I know, he has been wrong and right several times - totally wrong on SYX, for example).

Sure, read the first post of this thread (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=8864.msg86832#msg86832) ... damn it, I forgot to put it on the Trades thread, Ramsburg used to do that but he's on vacation, I'm so sorry :-X
Ok, fortunately GOAM is more or less the same price I sold, which was $8.23. Let me put it on the trades thread, thanks for the reminder, sorry for this.
It's Friday, very low day on the Market.
I see only SUF now for the play
apologies if someone already posted this.TWTR, an 150 store electronic seller, only have a 44m market cap. it is on fire today.
FBP up over 8% on high volume.

Yep, but I don't like SUF, read my take two days ago: http://www.3stocksonfire.org/trading/index.php?topic=8839.msg86462#msg86462
Besides today the candlestick pattern is a thrusting pattern, which is a bearish continuation pattern.
Bought AVZA on dip at 5.99. It's back to 6.10.
I think you have a good call on Brlc. What we see is totally a short squeeze.$2% of the float was shorted as of jan 9th.12000000 stocks approx we seen 4000000+ vol yesterday 5 mil. + today one more day of covering and we will probably be done.Earnings on the 8th.My guess is that the guidance will be not as good because of the profit margins.
What do you think of IVAN david?

Nice rebound play. It might run until the first resistance at $2. It looks cheap, but for a good reason, losing too much money because its not competitive enough against Wal Mart and others.
I could buy it, but it would be against the trend, and I can't betray that good old friend of mine.
Thanks for the suggestion though :)

Hi - Let's try not to waste David's time with stocks that are not within the scope of the portfolio. ADM and ICE are both multi billion MC companies, and ADM for one, is definitely not on fire today. I suggest we all reread the FAQ and suggest stocks that fit the criteria!
We're going for short term explosions here from small cap companies!
GLTA
You know you may be right but ADM was on fire yesterday and maybe by putting some of these stocks out here, they could be put to use in the main portfolio. ICE has more than doubled in 6 months with no signs on stopping and would be awesome for the main portfolio but it is also expensive too but he could just ignore it. I really don't care. Just takes seconds to ignore someones post and could have been just as easy for you to do the same. I have owned ICE since June 06 and I am not complaining in the least. Holding this sucker long term. If this hasn't been on fire, I don't know what has.
Hi Lance - Didn't mean to get you riled up there, but me being able to ignore the post or not isn't the point. I know David will be more than happy to spend his time with your requests, but since they don't fit in this portfolio, we're essentially wasting his time that could be spent on more...fitting companies.
I didn't mean to single you out either, there have been a multitude of requests everyday that are not quite what we're looking for, and I just wanted to point this out.
However, I still don't think we should mix ICE with FIRE ;D
Sorry, I was just trying to make a contribution but forgot the rules of the 3SOF so I do thank you for the reminder. ICE still might make a good pick for the MAIN though. You are right....when you mix ICE with FIRE, it melts. :(

What do you think of IVAN david?
IVAN = Too much market cap & losses for too little sales. I would sell on any rally if I had it, so I can't buy today.
ZAAP is rising a lot, but that's due to a stock dividend, I couldn't think of a more stupid reason for a stock to advance.
Why? Because the 10% stock dividend increases the share count by 10%, so obviously the stock will go down 10% to reflect the dividend.
In this case it will go more than that, because it has been moving up due to that dividend ... it's incredible how people are attracted by dividends, when they don't give anyone money. Even Buffet hates dividends.
Man its hard finding a good pick :P. BTW David excellent work on the CPNE pick its going higher by the minute its definately on fire!

Lol one stock on fire :P, SILC is doing good as well. Just GOAM was a little sour lost -4% on that but the SILC and CPNE gains nullify that lol.
Nice Work, David!! I like this form, and it is pretty easy to get used to. ;D

And how do you think of BHE? Thank You So Much.
David, I appreciate that you don't rush into stocks just to fill the portfolio. If you only have 2 stocks you like today then that is fine. We have many many days ahead of us to turn your $15,000 into $150,000! Please don't settle for any stock that you don't absolutely love because with 11,000 out there you will find them eventually, with patience. Great job, and this is a great learning experience!

Bought AVZA on dip at 5.99. It's back to 6.10.
It might be a good idea ... the best I've seen today. Let me make some comments on it.
Technically the stock almost touched its all time high of $6.56 today. It is doing a breakaway gap above the $5.24 resistance level, though. 9% above the opening price, I like that.
Fundamentally:
- Market cap is $96.9 M. The Company designs, manufactures, sells and supports advanced semiconductor capital equipment and process technologies for the global semiconductor industry and related markets.
- Balance sheet is acceptable
- Revenue trend is positive and accelerating
- EPS reported today for the fiscal Q1 2007 was $0.07. Good, but EPS for the fiscal Q4 2006 was $0.14, so net profit margin declined by a lot, even though revenues rose.
Today's rally would be more sound if it happened after fiscal Q4 results than today. There are mixed fundamental signals.
So, it can rise some more, but there are doubts, when people over the weekend make some calculus, perhaps they will come to sell on Monday.
Not a sure thing, unfortunately.
Good luck Rudy :)

Hi gix330 :)
Don't you even dare selling CPNE.OB before earnings. Just sit tight and let the profits run, you won't get all that many chances to get a fat profit. MT? What's that? (sorry, I'm a foreigner)
BHE? Please request an analysis on that one on another day, not on fire today, and market cap is already $1.4 B, so, too big for the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/3stocksonfire_3sof.php).
CLWT had a bounce off the 3 dollar low. It's 3.25 now but was around 4 bucks last week.Moves quickly

You're probably right trexkerry. You have a coolhead, like realcoolhead does, I appreciate your advice. Besides, it is Friday, and I'm kind of tired, so ...
You're also right because I don't like losses. Like Gordon Gekko on Wall Street says: "Nothing ruins my day more than losses" :)

Thank you, David. I think it is time for me to read all the FAQ before I make another post. :-X

Have a GRRRREAT Weekend !
MT = market take? I'm guessing as well, not familiar with MT...
David, I love this way of doing things that you started today... you give the criteria, we are the eyes, ears & legs to bring back possibilities then you decide which ones are best .. instead of having you spend a lot of time giving us analysis on stocks that you wouldn't want to trade yourself. If you don't mind doing the analyses, that's fine but I think your time would be better spent just quickly reviewing our picks, finding the best ones and only analyzing those.
Just trying to make sure you have enough time left over each day to enjoy life!

I already answered that one, no, DMRC volume = 187 K < 300 K (I should have written this criteria on that post, only remembered it after you guys started giving me low volume stocks).
If the volume is low, it means there's not much people participating, so the stock can be forgotten on Monday, it can rest for a week or two, regardless of fundamentals. We need a lot of volume because that way we know the stock will be talked about by many people, and that will attract even more people to it.
Not easy to find a pure stock on fire, especially on a Friday :P
I think OMNI is a very good play with $13 target

Doesn't meet the criteria today, because it is up just 1.23%.
I made an analysis on it which you can find on the Stock Picking board at HSOA's thread. Didn't like the stock, unfortunately.
A huge short position can make a stock run if there's a bullish catalyst, but it doesn't change the fundamentals of the company. Most stocks that go down from $20 to below $1 have huge short positions in them, but if bears are right on their fundamental reasoning, the market will ultimately pay them, not the bulls, who are wrong on their fundamental assessments.
In this the stock market is much different from the futures market ... it took me some time to learn that (more than a year).

Stupid question: when you say at least $500k volume
QuoteVolume must be above the recent average (and above $500 K traded today)
does that mean if a stock trades for $10 and trades 50k shares, then that is equal to $500,000? Or do you mean at least 500k shares traded overall (irrespective of stock price?)
Xide is atart running. But what about XIDEW? the same stock? Can start run any time
Wow wish I bought more CPNE! I have 4900shrs riding on it

There are two restrictions. That's because of pennies. Let me explain:
- Volume must be more than 300 K shares traded, to make sure you don't bring me boring stocks trading at $50 with 100 K shares traded. Those are trading $5 M , but they're not interesting anyway;
- Volume must be more than $500 K. That's because you can have a penny stock trading 100 million shares, but in dollar terms that's just a few thousand dollars, so I can't buy it.

Usually I don't like them under $0.01 (you know they can trade as low as $0.0001), but it depends on the volume traded in $ terms. If I see an OTCBB with more than $1 M traded it gets my attention, because that's enough money involved to be just a meaningless spike.

The lower the market cap, the easier it will be for a huge and fast move to unfold.
Because each dollar or cent of the share price represents less when the market cap is low. For one stock, $1 might mean a $1 M value creation. For another it might mean one thousand times more, that is, $1 B.
Yet, for you that own 500 shares, $1 are $500, it doesn't matter which of the two stocks you bought.
You're talking about $800 M companies. A 10% move there means a value creation of $80 M. Those $80 M of value creation in a $100 M market cap mean 80% for your investment, instead of just 10%.
An idea can be worth $20 M. That only makes a $800 M company move 2.5%, not even worth the effort. But the same idea on a $20 M market cap company might mean 100% on your money.
Of course, the higher the potential return, the higher the risk. But a high reward, high risk proposition is what the 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/3stocksonfire_3sof.php) is all about.
I think you get my point ;)
Have a great weekened as well David! Must give you praises again on the CPNE pick.
Thanks :)
The 3 Stocks on Fire Portfolio (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/3stocksonfire_3sof.php) rose 8.84% today to $24,654, up 64% from the initial capital of $15,000.
Still a long, long way from the $150,000 objective of this experience, which came from a debate at the Premium area of 3 Stocks (http://www.3stocksonfire.org/_advantages.php), about little capital trading strategies vs big capital strategies.
I'll have a very relaxed and fun weekend with my family, I wish the same to you all :)
