FDA Advisers Consider At-Home HIV Test
Thursday November 3, 8:41 am ET
FDA Advisers Are Considering Whether to Allow a Do-It-Yourself At-Home HIV Test
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A government advisory panel is considering whether to allow the use of the first HIV test a person can take entirely at home, alone.
The possible availability of the test, which relies on a swab on the inside of the mouth, has raised concerns about the potential psychological impact on people who learn they have the virus with no doctors or counselors present.
The test, called OraQuick Advance, is made by OraSure Technologies Inc. of Bethlehem, Pa. It is already widely available in health clinics and doctor's offices, and the FDA is considering permitting it to be sold over the counter.
A person takes the test by taking a mouth swab and then inserting the swab in a vial of fluid that comes with the test. Twenty minutes later, the device would indicate whether it detects the presence of HIV-1 or HIV-2 antibodies inside cells picked up by the swab.
The test will not detect the virus if the person only recently acquired HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, because it takes several weeks for the antibodies to appear.
The company has not decided at what price it would sell the kits to consumers, company officials said. The company sells the kits for between $12 and $17 to clinics and doctors, he said.
The test is accurate more than 99 percent of the time, the company says. Still, a positive result from the test should be confirmed through an additional test by doctors or public health officials.
The FDA's Blood Products Advisory Committee will consider Thursday whether to recommend the product for over-the-counter sales. The FDA has the final say, but it usually follows its committees' advice.
FDA briefing documents posted on the Internet said these kits could lead to more people knowing whether they have HIV, which could mean earlier treatment of the infection. People afraid or unwilling to take the test, particularly those with no symptoms, may more readily test themselves with a kit they can use privately.
But the documents also note concerns about someone learning they probably have HIV when they are alone, with no health professional or counselor nearby. Company officials said they would develop instructions with the kit for someone who receives a positive result that would probably include a telephone number and web site address.
One other home test, made by Home Access Health Corp., is approved for sale in the United States by the FDA. People taking this test must take a sample from themselves and mail it to a lab for results.
Some companies market unapproved HIV tests for home use; the FDA says it is impossible to know if they are reliable.
About one million people in the United States have HIV. The Centers for Disease Control estimates nearly 300,000 people have the virus but don't know it.

UPDATE 1-At-home HIV test could spur early treatment-US panel
Thu Nov 3, 2005 07:55 PM ET
(Adds meeting details throughout)
By Susan Heavey
GAITHERSBURG, Md., Nov 3 (Reuters) - An HIV test that can be used at home and promises results in 20 minutes could help more people get treated sooner, but raises concerns about how well patients could cope with the test findings on their own, a U.S. advisory panel heard on Thursday.
Testing kits that allow consumers to mail a blood sample to a laboratory for results have been approved in the past, but advocates said allowing people to find out their HIV status at home makes testing easier, faster and more private.
"A number of people don't get tested because they are concerned about privacy," Orasure Technology Inc. (OSUR.O: Quote, Profile, Research) Chief Executive Douglas Michels told Reuters at the Food and Drug Administration panel meeting.
The company is considering seeking FDA approval for a home version of its OraQuick test, which is already marketed to doctors and other health-care providers.
No company has sought U.S. permission to sell the products over-the-counter, but the FDA is asking for the panelists' advice as it weighs how to review future proposals.
Agency officials said there were several concerns about at-home HIV tests, including how people would cope with their results, especially those younger than 18.
"Concerns have been expressed over the years about the psychological effects of receiving a positive HIV test result without the benefit of counseling. The issue that has come up repeatedly is suicidal tendencies," said Elliot Cowan, head of product reviews for the FDA's Division of Emerging and Transfusion Transmitted Diseases.
The FDA has been grappling with possible home-use HIV tests since 1986, when manufacturers first expressed interest in selling mail-in kits, which have since been approved for HIV and hepatitis C.
OraQuick would allow consumers to insert a swab of saliva into a small bottle, providing the results while the patient waits at home. Like home pregnancy tests, various colored lines appear on a small window depending on whether the virus was detected.
ENCOURAGING TESTING
The panel appeared to support marketing the test to consumers, and told the FDA it should require over-the-counter versions to perform almost as well as the professional ones.
"I would agree that we could probably lower the bar a little bit for the public health good," said panelist Thomas Quinn, a professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.
Companies considering U.S. approval should conduct studies that mimic home use, include minorities and teenagers, and explore what happens if people use the test incorrectly, the panelists reccommended.
They should also include simple information about getting treatment and the need to get a second test to confirm the results, the panel said.
During the public hearing, a few opponents argued that HIV screenings should be left to trained professionals who could provide immediate advice.
Nearly a dozen activists and researchers said easier access would encourage more people, especially those without access to health care or those worried about being stigmatized, to get tested.
Over-the-counter tests are "a must in our fight against the spread of this disease," said Rev. Richard Cizik, vice president for governmental affairs at the National Association of Evangelicals.
Orasure's Michels said the company was working on what kind of information to include with its test. OraQuick is effective, but he said the company would conduct studies on how well average people can use it before filing for approval.
The next step is for the company to meet with the agency, he added.
He did not say what it would charge consumers, but the professional version costs between $12 and $17.
Canada's Medmira Inc. (MIR.V: Quote, Profile, Research) is also considering seeking U.S. approval for its version, which uses a blood sample.

Following the NASDAQ open, Mr. Michels will participate in a special NASDAQ-sponsored panel discussion and press conference on global HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, featuring United States Surgeon General, Vice Admiral Richard H. Carmona, M.D.
World AIDS Day is an international day of observance to honor those who have died from AIDS, as well as increase awareness of the disease in hopes of fighting the further spread of HIV. OraSure Technologies also announced that it has been awarded a "Red Ribbon Leadership Award" by the National HIV/AIDS Partnership (NHAP). The Red Ribbon Leadership Awards, in their inaugural year, recognize individuals or entities that demonstrate outstanding leadership in promoting behaviors, directing activities, and exemplifying qualities that inspire others to take actions to stop HIV transmission. Award recipients were selected by a panel representing a range of public and private sectors. The award will be announced today at a special ceremony at the United Nations world headquarters in New York City by the membership of the NHAP.

"This year's World AIDS Day is especially exciting for OraSure, as we've made significant strides in extending our global reach in the fight against HIV - first, by launching OraQuick® ADVANCE(TM) in Mexico and, second, by donating a significant number of test kits to Africa and India - countries that have been hard-hit by the HIV/AIDS epidemic," said Douglas A. Michels, President and CEO of OraSure Technologies. "Furthermore, OraSure is honored to once again open the NASDAQ Stock Market and to receive a Red Ribbon Leadership Award on such a meaningful day."

On behalf of those that believe in media fairness and responsibility and especially on behalf of the unfortunate individuals that may have taken their uniformed reports seriously, I would love to see what Bluehairdriver stated on his last paragraph of Post 37292 happen.
Here is the final score as I see it.
Team Humanity & OraQuick Advance is the winner, scoring a 99.6% Specificity Rate.
Team S.F. Chronicle & Talk Show Host gets disqualified for False Positive Reporting.
Those unfortunate souls that perhaps missed early detection of infection because they did not go for testing after the uniformed reports surfaced of course stand to lose the most. Also hurt were those investors that were scared into selling their precious OraSure shares.
On the positive side, those wise readers of this Yahoo! OraSure Board benefited handsomely if they bought more shares of their beloved OraSure when its value plunged as a result of the uninformed reports. I am proud to include Dreamer as one of these.
Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch apparently did the same. Although I made a humorous reference to this in Post 36821, I honestly believe that in all probability they did read this Board. Indeed, for the reasons I previously mentioned, it would be irresponsible for anyone to make such large purchases of our beloved OraSure without at least skimming through the precious information and insight on this Board.
Anyone who read Post 33558 by the distinguished Dr. ARCruz should have realized that in all likelihood, there was nothing wrong with OraQuick Advance. Student researcher Wsucbaker then hammered this home with Post after Post of incredibly informative and insightful first-hand analysis of the astounding actual performance of OraQuick Advance.
And long before the CDC Report by Dr. Branson and about a week even before CEO Doug Michels? initial Report, a certain Dreamer on this Board calculated the overall Specificity of OraQuick Advance, including the False Positives, to be an astounding 99.2% (Post 31913, December 11, 2005).
Of course, an anguished Dreamer tried to share his analysis of the False Positive situation with passionate letters to both the S.F. Chronicle (Post 32484) and to the said TV Host (Post 32370).
Now a word about Conspiracy Theory (a favorite film of this movie buff). It抯 my nature to look at everything from the positive side, so at first I dismissed entirely any possibility of conspiracy, despite reading the many Posts on this Board proposing this. Even though it makes me ill to think someone would stoop so low as to deliberately harm the reputation a life-saving product for the sake of profit, now I have my doubts. At about the same time the False Positive media reports surfaced, certain malicious and idiotic bashers appeared on this Board, some openly citing that a certain notorious hedge fund manager of ill-repute had recommended shorting our beloved OraSure stock. You decide.
To all OraSure believers, I think our Dream remains very bright. :-)
Sincerely,
Dreamer1976, M.D.

OraSure Technologies Applauds CDC`s Call for Routine HIV Testing; Revised HIV Testing Recommendations Advocate HIV Screening as Routine Part of Medical Care
September 21, 2006 14:39:11 (ET)
BETHLEHEM, Pa., Sep 21, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- OraSure Technologies, Inc. (OSUR, Trade), the market leader in oral fluid diagnostics and the manufacturer of the OraQuick ADVANCE(R) Rapid HIV-1/2 Antibody Test, today issued a statement in support of "The Revised Recommendations for HIV Testing of Adults, Adolescents, and Pregnant Women in Health Care Settings," issued today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ("CDC"). These recommendations, which advocate routine HIV screening of patients as a normal part of medical care, were published in the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), September 22, 2006/55 (RR14); 1-17.
According to the CDC, the objectives of the revised recommendations are to normalize HIV screening as a routine part of medical care, including for pregnant women, in health-care settings; foster earlier detection of HIV infection; identify and counsel persons with unrecognized HIV infection and link them to clinical and prevention services; and further reduce perinatal transmission of HIV in the United States. The recommendations are intended for all health-care providers in clinical settings, including those working in hospital emergency departments, urgent care clinics, inpatient services, substance abuse treatment clinics, public health clinics, community clinics, correctional health-care facilities and primary care settings. The full guidelines can be found at: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/rr5514a1.htm
"We believe the implementation of routine testing in health-care settings is an important step toward stopping the spread of HIV in America. We applaud the CDC for issuing this clear call to action, which will reduce barriers in both the public and private sector to HIV testing as a regular part of medical care," said Douglas A. Michels, President and Chief Executive Officer of OraSure Technologies. "We are confident that as a result of the revised recommendations, more individuals will get tested and learn their HIV status, and we believe our OraQuick ADVANCE(R) test can serve an important role. We look forward to working with the CDC and health care providers as they advance this initiative."
The recommendations call for routine HIV testing of all patients aged 13 to 64. In contrast, the prior CDC guidelines recommended routine testing only for high-risk persons and for those in acute-care settings where HIV prevalence exceeded one percent. The new recommendations emphasize that testing be provided on a voluntary basis with the patient's knowledge, unless the patient elects to "opt out" of the testing. It is further recommended that HIV testing be covered by a general medical care consent obtained from the patient and that pre-test counseling and a separate written consent for HIV testing no longer be required. The recommendations also contain measures intended to improve diagnosis of pregnant women and further reduce mother-to-child HIV transmission.
The development of the recommendations involved extensive input from representatives of community-based organizations, individuals living with HIV/AIDS, health departments and academia, as well as representatives from professional organizations, state and federal agencies, and other stakeholders.
OraQuick ADVANCE(R) is the first and only U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved and CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvements Amendments Act of 1988) waived rapid point-of-care test that can detect antibodies to both HIV-1 and HIV-2 in 20 minutes, using oral fluid, finger-stick or venipuncture whole blood or plasma specimens. The CDC and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) have effectively deployed over one million OraQuick(R) tests in various public health, drug treatment and outreach settings throughout the country. OraQuick(R) is also used by hospitals, state departments of health, clinics, community-based organizations, and college/university health centers throughout the country.

I am in tomorrow around the open and may add to my position if there is any pullback to the 50sma at 7.63, though I doubt that. Looks like a cup is forming on the chart today and so a move above 10.16 should really move this stock, IMO.

Roche Diagnostics and OraSure Technologies Sign Letter of Intent to Develop Fully Automated Oral Fluid Drugs of Abuse Assays
Wednesday October 4, 2:30 pm ET
This partnership will enable laboratories to increase efficiencies while offering an improved level of service by providing quicker turnaround times
INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Roche Diagnostics today signed a letter of intent to negotiate an agreement for the joint development and commercialization of homogeneous fully-automated oral fluid drugs of abuse assays that can run on random access chemistry analyzers with OraSure Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: OSUR - News). The oral fluid assays will be developed for use with OraSure's Intercept® oral specimen collection device and Roche's KIMS (kinetic interaction of microparticles in solution) technology. The oral fluid assays will be designed to run on various automated analyzers and to allow oral fluid samples to be processed with the same efficiency as current urine based tests. Among the key potential benefits to laboratories will be increased efficiencies and quicker turnaround times.

"With automation of oral fluid testing becoming increasingly important, Roche is committed to providing best-in-class high throughput oral fluid solutions for our customers. We are very pleased to be collaborating with OraSure Technologies in the development of fully automated oral fluid drugs of abuse assays," said Joe Passarelli, Vice President of Research and Development at Roche Diagnostics. "This partnership would leverage the strengths of both companies including OraSure's market leading Intercept® Drug Test and Roche Diagnostics' fully automated ONLINE DAT® drug screening portfolio -- leading to an integrated product offering from a single source," he added.
"The development of automated assays for oral fluid drugs of abuse testing is technologically a very important step for OraSure and its laboratory customers," said Stephen R. Lee, Ph.D., Executive Vice President and Chief Science Officer, OraSure Technologies. "It will enable them to run these assays on the most advanced, flexible chemistry analyzers used in laboratories today, which should ultimately lead to higher volumes of oral fluid testing. We are extremely excited to be working with Roche on this project -- their industry-leading KIMS technology combined with their system reliability is ideally suited for this application," said Lee.
Developed and manufactured by OraSure Technologies, the Intercept® device is the only FDA-cleared invitro diagnostic laboratory-based oral fluid testing system used for detecting commonly abused drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP and amphetamines (including methamphetamine and ecstasy) and for detecting barbiturates, methadone and benzodiazepines. Intercept® testing is currently being used in workplace, drug treatment and criminal justice testing markets, as well as in public school systems.
With over twenty-five years of proven experience in the drugs of abuse market, Roche Diagnostics has established itself as a global leader. Roche offers a full portfolio of testing solutions including ONLINE DAT® drugs of abuse screening assays combined with system platforms that are tailored for various customer segment and volume requirements.

OraSure Announces Third Quarter Financial Results
Wednesday November 1, 4:05 pm ET
BETHLEHEM, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--OraSure Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: OSUR - News), a market leader in oral fluid diagnostics, today announced revenues of $17.6 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2006, compared to $18.1 million in revenues recorded for the comparable period in 2005.
The Company's net income was $2.1 million, or $0.05 per share on a basic and fully-diluted basis, for the third quarter of 2006, which includes charges for stock option expense and a provision for income taxes, neither of which were included in the Company's 2005 results. Excluding these two charges, net income for the third quarter of 2006 would have been $4.3 million, or $0.09 per share on a fully-diluted basis. These results compare to net income of $3.8 million, or $0.08 per share on a basic and fully-diluted basis, during the third quarter of 2005.
For the nine months ended September 30, 2006, the Company had revenues of $50.4 million compared to revenues of $51.3 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2005. The Company recorded net income of $4.2 million, or $0.09 per share on a basic and fully-diluted basis, for the nine months ended September 30, 2006, which includes charges for stock option expense and a provision for income taxes. Excluding these two charges, net income for the nine months ended September 30, 2006 would have been $10.0 million, or $0.21 per share on a fully-diluted basis. These results compare to net income of $6.8 million, or $0.15 per share on a basic and fully-diluted basis, during the nine months ended September 30, 2005, which excluded costs related to stock options and a provision for income taxes.
"We are pleased with the Company's financial performance for the third quarter," said Douglas A. Michels, President and Chief Executive Officer of OraSure Technologies. "Our financial results exceeded our expectations and were driven primarily by continued strong performance of our infectious disease testing business along with the increased sales of our substance abuse testing and insurance risk assessment products. Offsetting these increases was a reduction in our cryosurgical systems sales."
Gross margin in both the third quarters of 2006 and 2005 was 64%.
Operating expenses for the third quarter of 2006 increased to $8.8 million from $8.4 million in the comparable period in 2005. This increase was primarily attributable to stock option expense, increased research and development expenses and costs related to the implementation of a new enterprise resource planning system, offset by lower legal and advertising costs. Operating expenses for the nine months ended September 30, 2006 were $27.3 million, compared to $25.2 million for the comparable period in 2005.
Cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments totaled $89.5 million and working capital was $98.1 million at September 30, 2006, compared to $77.6 million and $90.7 million, respectively, at December 31, 2005.
Cash flow from operations was $5.9 million for the third quarter of 2006, up from the $3.6 million reported for the third quarter of 2005. Cash flow from operations for the nine months ended September 30, 2006 was $14.1 million, compared to $8.5 million for the comparable period in 2005.
Due to the better than expected financial performance in the third quarter of 2006, the Company is raising its 2006 full year, fully-diluted earnings per share guidance to between $0.10 - $0.11 per share as a result of an additional expected $0.01 - $0.02 per share of earnings in the fourth quarter of 2006. The fourth quarter earnings projection is based on attainment of projected revenues of between $17.0 million and $17.5 million for the quarter, resulting in 2006 full-year projected revenues of between approximately $67.5 million and $68.0 million.
Non-GAAP Financial Measures
Net income - before charges and diluted earnings per share - before charges, each exclude the impact of stock option expensing and income tax provisions. These financial measures should not be considered an alternative to net income or diluted earnings per share, respectively, which are indicators of operating performance determined in accordance with GAAP. OraSure Technologies believes that net income - before charges and diluted earnings per share - before charges, although non-GAAP financial measures, are also useful and meaningful to investors because they provide investors with the Company's underlying earnings performance as another criterion in making their investment decisions. OraSure's management also uses these calculations in measuring certain corporate performance goals. Other companies may use different measures to present financial information.
Conference Call
The Company will host a conference call and audio webcast today to discuss the Company's third quarter 2006 financial results and to provide an update on major business objectives, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time (2:00 p.m. Pacific Time). On the call will be Douglas A. Michels, President and Chief Executive Officer, and Ronald H. Spair, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer. OSUR update:
Schering-Plough and OraSure Technologies Sign Agreement for Development and Promotion of Rapid Point-of-Care Oral Hepatitis C Test
Thursday January 4, 8:00 am ET
- Test Will Utilize OraSure's OraQuick(R) Technology Platform -
KENILWORTH, N.J. & BETHLEHEM, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Schering-Plough Corporation (NYSE:SGP - News) and OraSure Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:OSUR - News) today announced an agreement to collaborate on the development and promotion of a rapid oral test for the detection of antibodies to the hepatitis C virus (HCV) utilizing OraSure Technologies' OraQuick® technology platform.
The agreement brings together OraSure - the leader in oral fluid diagnostics and developer and manufacturer of the OraQuick ADVANCE® Rapid HIV-1/2 Antibody Test, the first and only U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved rapid oral fluid HIV-1/2 Test, and Schering-Plough Corporation, a worldwide leader in the discovery and development of novel HCV therapies.
"As a long-term innovator and leader in the hepatitis therapy area, Schering-Plough is the ideal partner to help us introduce our rapid, point-of-care oral HCV test to the U.S. physicians' office market once our product receives FDA approval. We believe a rapid oral fluid HCV test has significant commercial and medical value in that it will help identify more individuals who are infected, thus enabling them to receive appropriate treatment. We look forward to a long and successful collaboration with Schering-Plough on this important product," said Douglas A. Michels, President and CEO of OraSure Technologies.
Under terms of the agreement, Schering-Plough will reimburse OraSure for a portion of the costs incurred by OraSure to develop the rapid oral HCV test and also will provide certain promotional support in the physicians' office market in the United States. All sales of the HCV test will be made by OraSure, and OraSure will retain the rights to market and sell the test in all markets throughout the United States. The tests sold to U.S. physicians' offices will be co-branded and will incorporate OraSure's OraQuick® tradename and Be In Charge®, the name of Schering-Plough's free patient support program that provides access to in-depth, easy-to-understand educational information about chronic hepatitis C and its treatment. The agreement has an initial term of two years from the date that the test is first sold commercially.
Hepatitis C is the most common blood-borne infection in America, affecting approximately four million people or about one in every 50 adults, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Because the prevalence of HCV infection is threefold higher among persons now between the ages of 30 and 49, the number of deaths resulting from HCV-related liver disease could increase substantially during the next 10 to 20 years due to progression of liver disease as the infected population ages. Chronic hepatitis C can cause cirrhosis, liver failure and liver cancer. About half of all cases of primary liver cancer in the developed world are caused by hepatitis C, and hepatitis C related liver disease is now the leading cause for liver transplants. Most people who develop chronic hepatitis C infection are not aware that they have the disease.

BETHLEHEM, Pa., Jun 26, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- OraSure Technologies, Inc. (OSUR, Trade) and the National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA) announced today the launch of the third annual Mayors Campaign Against HIV(TM), a national campaign to encourage testing for HIV and promote the benefits of knowing one's HIV status. The Campaign is being sponsored by OraSure Technologies, the manufacturer of the OraQuick ADVANCE(R) Rapid HIV-1/2 Antibody Test, in observance of National HIV Testing Day (NHTD) on Wednesday, June 27, 2007.
NAPWA and OraSure Technologies have collaborated with city public health departments and community-based organizations across the country to elicit mayoral support to urge HIV testing and prevention among their constituencies. To date, 33 Mayor's and/or Department of Health offices in major metropolitan cities nationwide have committed their participation and support including New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, Seattle, Newark, Phoenix and Washington, D.C. Several Mayors have also committed to getting tested on June 27th while others are issuing proclamations or holding press conferences to encourage individuals to get screened for HIV.
As part of this campaign, OraSure Technologies will be joined by Frank Oldham, Jr., Executive Director of NAPWA, to preside over the NASDAQ Stock Market opening on National HIV Testing Day. This event will spotlight the importance of this annual observance, as well as the collective support of OraSure, various governmental agencies, the media and HIV/AIDS organizations to increase HIV testing and awareness nationwide.
Now in its 13th year, National HIV Testing Day is an annual event led by NAPWA to encourage the millions of Americans who are at-risk for HIV to receive voluntary HIV counseling and testing. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 1.1 million individuals in the United States are infected with the HIV virus, yet more than one-quarter do not know they have the disease.
"We are very pleased to be joining forces with NAPWA and the participating mayors again this year as we publicly unite in the fight against HIV/AIDS through our Mayors Campaign Against HIV(TM)," said Douglas A. Michels, President and Chief Executive Officer of OraSure Technologies. "As the only FDA-approved rapid, oral fluid HIV test in the U.S., the OraQuick ADVANCE(R) Rapid HIV-1/2 Antibody Test will help to get more people tested and enable HIV-positive people to learn their status earlier so they can access care sooner. We are committed to working in partnership with national, state and local health agencies to make the OraQuick ADVANCE(R) test available to all who need it."
"Each year, National HIV Testing Day brings together thousands of local health departments, community organizations and HIV/AIDS advocacy groups nationwide to encourage early diagnosis and routine testing for HIV/AIDS, and the Mayors Campaign Against HIV(TM) helps to further support this mission," said Frank Oldham, Jr., NAPWA's executive director. "Education remains one of the most powerful tools in the fight against HIV/AIDS. By working in partnership with OraSure and mayors around the country, we hope to educate thousands nationwide on the need for HIV testing and prevention. We are thankful for the dedication and support of both OraSure and each mayoral office participating in the campaign."
In appreciation of the mayors' involvement in the Campaign, NAPWA and OraSure Technologies will donate more than 20,000 OraQuick ADVANCE(R) Rapid HIV-1/2 Antibody Tests to city health departments and community-based organizations throughout the country.
