Personal Logs / Re: Welcome !
June 23, 2005, 12:55:46 AM
I love the idea but I have been doing it for some time now...oddly enough I too started with only $1,000...but might I make a suggestion...   I have found from trial and error that it is easier to compound four successful 20% trades in a month than to locate and be invested in 1 which doubles in any given month, and this is how I have been able to make it work...  I don't look for the elusive 100%+...I compound the average 20% gainers.

perhaps you would be more successful applying the same strategy...either way I will enjoy the results.

I look forward to this new board, and those who will be participating... 8)

150.23% for 2005 so far... ;D

My methods might be considered insane, but I rely heavily on the power of compounding to race my returns...to maximize this strategy I apply 100% of my portfolio to every investment I make...  To hedge against the risk of a concentrated portfolio I cut my losses early...5% or less...  I also focus on buying only the strongest chart patterns to increase the ratio of profitable investments to losses.

I am not a day trader, but I have been known to buy and sell in a single day when I feel an exit point is needed.

My main chart indicators include a solid base pattern and above average volume, among other things, and timing is everything when you cut losses quick.

My current position is in TPLM...Bought in today at $1.98

If we invest on strong technicals, or strong fundamentals...Risk is not increased by the location of a stock (whether it trades on the nasdaq or OTCB etc)

I trust the system I use...  In fact more often than not, strong chart patterns lead to gap ups which increase my profits nicely...

In my mind, either you trust the trade or you don't...  If you don't you shouldn't make the investment to begin with, and if you do...Why only take a small portion of your assets to the feast?

Warren Buffet, Peter Lynch, and William J O'Neil don't play the diversification = safety lie...why should we.  The two important facts I have learned from studying the masters is to a know your investment, and be time that investment.

If I'm Sure on my investment I'll hold over night, perhaps a few, but once the stock has climbed, what I consider to be too high, I will sell and buy back the following open if it is still moving forward.

The most important aspect for me is making sure I buy only the best chart patterns...(early mind you)...and have profits on the table befor the close of the first day.

For example:  I bought TPLM today at $1.98 and i am now holding through the close.

I don't see the wisdom behind the holding of GLGS, when it was very obviouse the stock had a short term pull back comming...  For those who bought at the open on Monday you had 10% to 20% on the table...now you are looking at a loss if you sold at today's close.

Could someone please tell me the wisdom behind the "hold" rather than the sell and buy it back or sell and go else where?

I know this will sound insane, but I have found ways to make it work, and work very well:  I invest 100% per trade...cut my losses early and hold my profitable stocks until the first sign of weakness...  I also use a very strick method of screening my stocks and found my way into GLGS at $1.24 and cut early at $2.02....  I don't see any point in holding stocks through a correction, when you can buy back after the correction is over.

The name of the game for me is timeing and the aplication of Compounding...thereis nothing as powerful as compounding.
