Stock Talking Board / In the original spirit of 3SoF
January 03, 2009, 05:37:21 AM
In the original spirit of 3SoF, I am putting 2 [will add few more later] for the Obama swing trade.

1. FSLR  @ 151.5
2. SPWRA  @ 41.4

I think we should have charts in inflation adjusted basis to really know whether they are going actually up or we are fooled by the increase due to reverse split of dollar. Time to buy inflation resistant assets like home, gold and grains.

Fed is stroking inflation by cutting interest rates. Making the paychecks lighter and what that mean is that consumer will have less spending power. Exactly what the Fed want to do. Heck, this is not a solution. This is a problem.

Stock Picking / Re: The best shipping company: TBSI

Oops, 'Revert to the mean' is the correct one, I was just thinking of 'Reverse Sweep' in Cricket at that time :) . I really follow British English but yes here in US they have twisted so many terms that I am now making few of my own. Thanks Aussie for the explanation.

'Reverse to the mean'?  David can you clear please.

Yes layoffs waves in the local economy is starting and I do know many specific instances but that could be true for CA I am not sure about other parts of US. It does feel like 2000 when a CS Professor told me to go learn something else other than coming to his Java class. I am no longer at School but was wondering what the Professors are suggesting now.

I think its time again for David to post the 90-91 recession with what happened afterwards chart again. If you are really long term investor [more than 1 to 3 years] you should not be worried about the current flux. However, for short termers it is time to be cautious.

One more thing. David has more experience and better record than anyone of us. But his outlook is much longer term and you need to have the same outlook if you want to replicate his performance. Now if you are buying with David and selling b/c market is looking bad then you may underperform.

To know your time horizon is as much important as picking the right stocks. Decide this first.

Stock Picking / Re: The World will use Sun power: ASTI

At 30% gain most borkers would give margin calls to those who are Short on margin. With ASTI now gaining more than 30% in few hours if the stock opens strong at open you may see some forced short covering. I will say sit back and enjoy if you are long.

Thanks Tera,

Unfortunately I wont be taking part in next SLO. For either I will go on to the Strategy Lab panel or if superseded I would pass on the SLO-2. Remember David is the best stock picker and one with a better long term record than anyone I know. I have a long way to go to prove my strategies. Few months of results really does not prove much.

ASTI may turn out to be the best 3SoF pick ever. I think it has much more to go.

Not owning any Solar now is like not owning any Tech in 1997.

The big oil lobby would do anything and everything to protect their vested interest even if that means some of the worst Climatic changes and eventual destruction of Mother Nature. Now something very interesting is also going on if you have noticed lately. A whole bunch of companies in alternate sector are coming up with some very competitive technologies. I would like to share info on one such company which is unfortunately private now. Its NanoSolar. It has a very distinguished list of investors including US Army investment arm. The NanoSolar example shows that the smart money is stealthy positioning in the sector. This will hopefully balance the oil lobbiest.

Even if the federal govt washes its hands you will have some support going on by more progressive states via their own Energy policies like California. Since the market for Solars is global and not local, if the US does not shows its leadership now then other countires like Germany and Spain will lead the pack.

There are really fewer good Solar companies while VC and other investors are egar to put some money in the sector. In current scenario smaller companies like ASTI and even some Chinese Solars are prime takeover targets. Risks abound the sector as well for wherever the great opportunity is there are people who would do everything to exploit the greed.

On a personal note, I have been taking part in Strategy Lab Open. If you have time then plz stop by the links below in the footnote of the post.

Watch List / Re: SOLF

SOLF is gangsta for today. Based on similar increase in stake you may see ASTI doubling from yesterdays close of 17.75. Hope both help me win Strategy Lab Open.
