Buffalo Wild Wings Shares Rise
Monday April 2, 4:42 pm ET
Buffalo Wild Wings Shares Rise on Sanders Morris Harris Price Target Hike

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of chicken wing chain Buffalo Wild Wings Inc. hit a 52-week high Monday after a Sanders Morris Harris analyst raised his price target on the shares and predicted the company will record a strong first quarter.

Analyst Will Hamilton raised his price target to $72 from $64, noting the company's rising share price and history of positive earnings reports.

"Over the last seven months, Buffalo Wild Wings' earnings results, and subsequently its stock price, have been on a tear, each more than doubling during that period," he said in a note to investors.

Hamilton said investors may be in for another report in which the company beats Wall Street's expectations.

"The catalysts for a third consecutive surprise would likely be better-than-expected restaurant margins and top-line growth," he wrote.

Hamilton added that the company may have years of growth ahead.

"Despite its recent expansion, Buffalo Wild Wings still has the market opportunity to triple its current restaurant base of 435 units over the next eight to 10 years, in our opinion," he said. "Large markets like California, the Northeast, and the Northwest remain under-penetrated."

Buffalo Wild Wings shares rose $1.85, or 2.9 percent, to close at $65.55 the Nasdaq Stock Market. The shares hit a new high of $66.12 earlier in the day. The stock had traded between $30.83 and $64.18 during the past 52 weeks.

Buffalo Wild Wings to Buy 9 Franchises

Buffalo Wild Wings to Buy 9 Franchises, Sets 2-For-1 Stock Split

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Buffalo Wild Wings Inc., operator of a namesake restaurant chain, said Friday it plans to buy for $26 million nine of its franchises in Las Vegas.
The company also plans a 2-for-1 stock split, paying in the form of a dividend on June 15 one share for each share held on June 1. The move doubles the number of shares outstanding, halving the price of each share, but does not change the company's market capitalization. The company had 8.8 million shares outstanding on May 15.

Stock splits are sometimes done to lower the price per share, making it more attractive to private investors. In electronic premarket trading, the stock rose $2.83, or 3.6 percent, to $82 after closing at $79.17 Thursday. It has more than tripled from its IPO price of $22.95 in November 2003.

Buffalo Wild Wings expects the purchase of the Las Vegas restaurants, from Bill Welter who has run them as franchises, to close in the fourth quarter. The company said there are 440 Buffalo Wild Wings locations in the United States.

Out of the Gate: Buffalo Wild Wings
Monday May 21, 10:14 am ET
Buffalo Wild Wings Shares Continued Gaining on Franchise Buy, Stock Split

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Buffalo Wild Wings Inc. added to last week's gains in morning trading Monday, touching an all-time high, on the restaurant chain's plans to buy some franchises in the Las Vegas area and split its stock two-for-one.

The Minneapolis-based company's shares gained 6 percent Friday after Buffalo Wild Wings said it plans to spend $26 million buying nine restaurants from franchisees in the Las Vegas market. These restaurants average weekly sales of more than $55,000, well exceeding the company average of $36,770 per store.

"Las Vegas is a great market for the Buffalo Wild Wings concept," said SMH Capital analyst Will Hamilton. "We like this acquisition and believe it is a good use of Buffalo Wild Wings' excess cash given the attractive market."

Morgan Keegan analyst Destin M. Tompkins estimated the acquired restaurants could add 8 cents to 10 cents per share in profit in 2008. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial forecast profit of $2.78 next year.

Hamilton said while the 2-for-1 stock split does nothing for the company's value, he believes it has boosted the stock. Some investors had sold the stock short, meaning they borrowed shares and sold them. With the stock rising, some of the short sellers were forced to exit their positions, he said.

Shares of Buffalo Wild Wings rose 91 cents to $84.82 in morning trading. The stock traded as high as $85.46, an all-time high.

Buffalo Wild Wings shares rise on 2Q report
Wednesday July 30, 12:18 pm ET
Buffalo Wild Wings shares jump after strong 2nd-quarter results, analyst upgrades stock

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Buffalo Wild Wings Inc. jumped Wednesday after the restaurant operator reported soaring profit in the second quarter and an analyst upgraded the stock.
Shares rose $2.96, or 9.5 percent, to $34 in midday trading. Shares have traded in a 52-week range of $18.25 to $43.85.

The boost came after the company reported late Tuesday that its profit rose 46 percent in its second quarter, handily beating Wall Street estimates. The improvement mainly stemmed from a rise in same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year, and new restaurant openings.

Same-store sales is a key indicator of restaurant performance since it measures growth at existing locations rather than newly opened ones.

Robert W. Baird analyst David Tarantino upgraded the stock to "Outperform" from "Neutral" and increased his price target to $45 from $34.

In a note to investors, Tarantino said he expects "healthy trends" to continue in the second half of the year.

The analyst specifically noted the company's strong same-store sales, calling them "impressive in light of a difficult consumer spending backdrop related to high gasoline prices, softer consumer confidence, and a tough housing market."
