Got out of my small Solarfun put position today at 6.50 for a 47% gain.  Realized that there is an option forum, so I suppose I'll post to that from now on  ;D  Just wanted to 'close' my position on the thread.

Good luck everyone!

Nice timing and excellent trade.

I continue to believe SOLF and CSIQ will outperform the rest of the sector based on what I believe to be a vast undervaluation.

I'm much more positive on YGE after seeing their news of building a 400 MW plant.  But I maintain that CSIQ and SOLF are both significantly cheaper than any other solar, other than maybe LDK.

LDK seems darn cheap also considering high growth.  I wish I had bought LDK the first time I mentioned it on the CSIQ thread at 35!  And STP is attractive in my opinion.

I love LDK. I am in on average 33,70PPS. I started to buy on the day when Robert Hsu told "sell". It´s really a thriller stock, but I have been fearless.

IMO would be fine to trade with that volatility now. Unfortunatelly now I cannot sell+buy again  due to high income tax  32% , so  I am selling next year only.
IMO there is good entry point whatever below 70usd. LDK is in delay behind others solar stocks - I think two months stagnation due to inventory affair. Now LDK should have  higher speed to catch up that run. Tomorrow here can be some small drop after todays conference call.
IMO of course!!!

Not selling because of a tax implication is not a good reason for deciding not to sell. LDK is hugely volatile and there seems to be a war of analysts with varying upgrade / downgrade price targets going on. Good luck with your position.

Thanks Aussie

LDK looks bad today, 30% downfall???Crazy market.
I am near my stop-loss, in witch I calculate income tax what should be paid with next loss of exchange USD/CZK. My PAT willl be small, if LDK continues down tommorow  :-\. (Next year I would there take profit without tax) .

I would like to become a day-trader in future, but it´s probably my dream only forever .   :)
Have a nice Christmastime

SOLF has consolidated and I personally believe it is ready for a run at new highs.

I'm still just holding shares from 25.73 or whatever it is.  A half ish position.

SOLF's fundamentals are still tremendous, especially in comparison to other solars when you compare production capacity, revenues, and earnings per share. (I suppose SOLF is not that cheap when you compare it to CSIQ my favorite solar)

I wouldn't be surprised if the shorts took SOLF down one more time, in which case I would lick my chops and load up on some long term options for a $30 or $35 strike price on the cheap.

BigSully1

Wow, SOLF going again on big volume.

bjc

I still personally believe CSIQ and SOLF are the best values in the sector and I still believe they will continue to outperform.  I'm not going to sell any bulk of my shares, I may sell chunks of CSIQ here and there as it has inflated to way too big of a position now.  This should come as no surprise!  As i said a couple days ago, just compare revenues, EPS and production capacity.  SOLF and CSIQ are on par with YGE as far as production capacity goes but YGE's mkt cap is $5b vs $1.6b for SOLF and under $0.8b for CSIQ.  I don't think these stocks are done.  Of course there will be consolidation along the way but I see no reason SOLF and CSIQ should not be $50 stocks.  Next quarters ERs are very important.  If these stocks can both perform again then it is green light to much much larger gains.

REASONS TO BUY SOLF      24-Dec-07 05:11 pm
Here are the reasons to buy SOLF. Everything else is just fluff from pumpers and bashers. Do your homework and buy companies growing revenue and earnings like SOLF:

Third Quarter 2007 Highlights

-- Net revenue was RMB 753.8 million (US$ 100.6 million), up 312 % from the comparable quarter in 2006, and 63% higher than 2Q 2007.

-- Total PV module shipments were 27.3 MW, continuing a trend of strong sequential increases from 16.4 MW and 6.5 MW in 2Q and 1Q 2007, respectively.

-- The average selling price ("ASP") remained stable at $3.66, compared to $3.68 in 2Q 2007.

-- Gross profit reached RMB 120.7 million (US$ 16.1 million), an increase of 133 % from the same quarter last year, and 72 % from 2Q 2007.

-- Gross margin improved to 16% from 15.2 % in 2Q 2007.

-- Net income was RMB 59.6 million (US$ 8.0 million), a gain of 146 % from the same quarter in 2006, and 190% from 2Q 2007.

-- Earnings per basic ADS were RMB 1.24 (US$ 0.17), in the third quarter of 2007, a 22% gain from the same quarter a year ago and 190% above 2Q 2007.

Mr. Yonghua Lu, Chairman and CEO of Solarfun commented, "We are quite pleased with our progress at all levels. Our shipments continued to increase and demand remained robust. We successfully completed the addition of PV cell production lines 7 and 8 in November 2007 and have achieved annual manufacturing capacity of 240 MW. Our gross profit margin increase is a reflection of stabilizing ASP in addition to reduced raw material costs, and we have been able to leverage growing economies of scale by spreading our operating expenses across our higher sales volumes."

"During the quarter, we continued to broaden the size and quality of our customer base, as well as our suppliers of polysilicon and wafers. Additionally, we are making solid progress on the development of our new ingot manufacturing subsidiary, Jiangsu Yangguang Solar Technology Co. Ltd. We already received wafer samples and they have met our high standards of quality. Now we are in the planning stages of a full delivery schedule."

Other Financial Highlights for the Third Quarter of 2007

-- Income from operations increased to RMB 63.3 million (US$ 8.4 million), or 8.4% of total net revenue, from RMB 29.1 million (US$ 3.9 million), or 6.3% of total net revenue, in 2Q 2007. The operating profit margin in the third quarter of 2006 was 16.5%. The decline compared to last year was primarily due to spending on corporate infrastructure and sales and marketing expenses. The sequential increase in operating profit margin was largely due to spreading costs across the higher sales volume.

Solar Stocks Make Strong Gains As Investors Shake Off Polysilicon Concerns

NEW YORK (AP) -- Solar stocks rallied Monday as investors shook off concerns about high polysilicon costs squeezing profit margins.

LDK rose $3.55, or 7.9 percent, to $48.68

SunPower Corp. rose $9.13, or 7.1 percent, to $138.15.

Sector Glance: Solar Stocks Rise

Solar Stocks Rally on High Expectations for Solar Power's Place in Renewable Energy Future

NEW YORK (AP) -- Solar-cell maker China Sunergy Co. led its sector's rally on Wednesday, as after its namesake country promised to develop renewable energy for its fast-growing economy.
China Sunergy shares rose $2.90, or 26.2 percent, to $13.94 in afternoon trading. Investors seem to be taking advantage of a sell-off in late November, when several analysts issued notes criticizing the company's limited production, lack of communication on polysilicon supplies and low product prices. Its shares have risen more than 80 percent since its four-week low of $7.08 on Nov. 28.

China issued a report on Wednesday, saying it will promote hydroelectric, nuclear, solar and wind energy, as well natural gas extracted from garbage dumps and coal mines. Shares of several other China-based solar companies rose as well.

LDK Solar Co. rose $3.16, or 6.5 percent to $51.84, and Trina Solar Ltd. gained 99 cents, or 2 percent, $50.98.

Although a major U.S. energy bill signed on Dec. 19 did not include provisions to support increased solar-power use, many expect Congress to take up the issue in separate bills next year. Furthermore, the solar industry gets most of its business overseas and analysts say U.S. demand will not be hurt because many states have their own solar-power provisions.

American Technology Research analyst John Hardy reiterated a "Buy" rating on SunPower Corp. shares, saying its manufacturing product efficiencies combined with improving profit margins will provide catalysts. He also issued a view that the solar industry will be helped by upcoming legislation until the technology's price can compete with traditional grid electricity.

"We believe that the current pro-alternative energy political and legislative environment will continue as a long-term trend until the solar industry is able to support itself through cost reductions," Hardy said in a note Wednesday.

SunPower shares rose $4.44, or 3.2 percent, to $142.59.

Akeena Solar Inc. also received a boost after reporting that Comerica Bank had increased its credit line to $25 million from $7.5 million. Its stock rose $1.23 cents, or 18.6 percent, to $7.85.

Shares of Evergreen Solar Inc., Solarfun Power Holdings Co., and Yingli Green Energy Holding Co. also hit 52-week highs during the session.

China Sunergy and Solarfun Power Climb As China Commits to Renewable Power, ADR Indexes Up

NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Chinese-based solar cell makers rose Wednesday, leading the gainers among stocks based overseas that trade on U.S. exchanges, after the Chinese government said it will work to promote use of alternative energy.

The report on China's energy plans described renewable fuels as a "top priority," and said the government will pay more attention to clean energy use.

American Depositary Receipts, or ADRs, of China Sunergy Co. Ltd. jumped $3.09, or 28 percent, to $14.13.

Solarfun Power Holdings Co. Ltd. stock surged $2.49, or 7.5 percent, to $35.64, and hit an all-time high of $37.85.

LDK Solar Co. Ltd. gained $3.36, or 6.9 percent, to $52.04.

The Bank of New York ADR composite index, which tracks shares of a broad range of companies based in other countries, rose 1 points to 192.20 in afternoon trading. The bank's European, Asian and Latin American indexes each moved slightly higher, as U.S. markets were mixed in generally light trading.

On the downside, shares of Brasil Telecom Participacoes SA slid $2.08, or 2.7 percent, to $74.14.

Korea Electric Power Corp. lost $1.08, or 4.7 percent, to $21.91.
