Power-One's Aurora(R) PVI-Central Inverters Win EPD Magazine Environmental Design Award
Tuesday September 16, 10:00 am ET

CAMARILLO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Power-One, Inc. (Nasdaq: PWER - News), a leading provider of power conversion and power management solutions, today announced that its Aurora PVI-Central commercial renewable energy inverters have won Electronic Product Design Magazine's 2008 e-Legacy Award in the Environmental Design Category. This prestigious award recognizes products that provide innovative electronic design solutions for responsible energy use.

Commenting on Power-One's success, EPD's Editor, Caroline Hayes, said "The Environmental Design category was one of the most popular entries. It recognizes energy-saving or power-efficient design, preparing for the next wave of energy sources and management. As a result, this category had six finalists instead of four. This shows the interest in energy sources and use in electronics design and the fact that over 6,000 people voted is a testimony to its relevance to the electronics design community. The photovoltaic inverters beat some tough competition to win this year's e-Legacy Environmental Design Award."

Power-One's PVI-Central Inverters are designed for large solar applications, such as apartment buildings and industrial facilities. These grid-tie products provide scalability in a common-enclosure package that is delivered pre-configured and pre-tested. In addition to reducing on-site installation wiring and testing, this modular approach facilitates cost-effective solutions with smaller footprints and increased reliability. Products are available from 50kW to 330kW.

Electronic Product Design Magazine's selection process was based on inputs from their judges and voting by their readership. The e-Legacy awards are unique in the electronics industry in recognizing excellence in design and forward-looking investments by electronics companies that contribute to community, society, and future generations.

"We would like to thank EPD and their readers for this award," said Richard Thompson, Power-One's CEO. "It is especially gratifying to receive this recognition in the Environmental Design Category, given our commitment to developing energy-efficient, 'green' power solutions. We believe our Aurora products offer some of the industry's most comprehensive and efficient lines of renewable energy inverters and benefit the environment by helping to conserve power with leading-edge design."

Power-One Posts Solid Fourth Quarter 2009 Results...
Net income of $5.4 million and diluted EPS of $0.05
Growth in renewable energy and power products, coupled with efficiencies and expense controls, drives operating cash flow to $28.1 million.

Power-One, Inc. (PWER), a leading provider of renewable energy and energy-efficient power conversion and power management solutions, today announced financial results for the fourth quarter 2009. The Company's ongoing strategic initiatives, including growth strategies and a continued focus on efficiencies and expense controls, helped deliver expanded gross and operating margins, as well as positive operating cash flow and net income.

Power-One recorded net sales of $142 million for the fourth quarter ended January 3, 2010, an increase of 9% from the fourth quarter 2008. Net income attributable to common shareholders for the fourth quarter was $5.4 million, or $0.05 per diluted share, compared to a profit of $1.7 million, or $0.02 per diluted share for the same period last year.

Both renewable energy and power products recorded strong sequential revenue gains in the fourth quarter 2009, with a positive outlook for 2010. Renewable energy products posted another solid quarter, and the continued momentum from inverter products resulted in a record $68 million in revenue for the fourth quarter 2009. This yielded a year-over-year increase of 279% from $18 million in the fourth quarter 2008 and a 119% sequential sales increase from $31 million in the third quarter 2009. Renewable energy generated 48% of total revenue in the quarter, versus 14% in the fourth quarter of 2008. Power-One's power products generated revenue of $74 million in the fourth quarter 2009, with these products showing continued signs of stabilization and modest demand increases.

Gross margin continued to expand for the third consecutive quarter, improving to 28.9% in the fourth quarter of 2009, compared with 22.0% for the same period last year. As part of Power-One's strategic initiatives, a favorable product mix, better factory utilization and cost improvements all contributed to the expansion. Gross margin was negatively affected by $1.7 million in charges related to the closure of the Dominican Republic facility. Operating income for the fourth quarter 2009 was $13.2 million and was impacted by $4.1 million in total charges related to the closure of the Dominican Republic facility, slated to be completed by the first half of 2010.

Total 90-day backlog showed extraordinary growth, as Power-One posted $121 million in 90-day backlog. The renewable energy products 90-day backlog was $59 million, while the power products backlog grew to $62 million. This compares to backlog of $69 million in the fourth quarter of 2008, with renewable energy backlog of $6 million and power backlog of $63 million. The fourth quarter book-to-bill ratio was 1.88 compared to 0.80 in the fourth quarter of 2008. The book-to-bill ratio at the end of the fourth quarter for the renewable energy products was 2.22 and was 1.56 for the power products.

The cash balance at the end of the fourth quarter was $90 million, up from $76 million at the end of the third quarter of 2009. During 2009, cash flow from operations was $55 million, versus a use of $22 million in 2008. Due to better working capital management, inventory decreased 28% to $73 million versus $102 million at the end of the fourth quarter of 2008, while DSO dropped 23 days, ending the fourth quarter at 77 days versus 100 days in the fourth quarter of 2008.

"We are pleased with the progress we have made with our restructuring in power conversion and the rapid growth and outlook for our inverter sales," commented Richard Thompson, Chief Executive Officer. "We have focused on improving our cost structure and strengthening power product sales and licensing, including our recent agreement with Ericsson. Further, we are investing in growth opportunities and new product initiatives, such as the launch of our 2.5 megawatt liquid-cooled wind inverter."

"With the increasing demand for our renewable energy and power products, we look forward to a strong year in 2010. The successful implementation of cost controls and a focus on expanding our markets enabled us to generate greater cash flow on improving margins," continued Mr. Thompson. "In the coming year, we will capitalize on cash flow generation and value to our shareholders through better manufacturing efficiencies, new product introductions and growth initiatives."

Press Release Source: Power-One, Inc. On Thursday April 29, 2010, 4:10 pm EDT
CAMARILLO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Power-One, Inc. (NASDAQ: PWER - News), a leading provider of renewable energy and energy-efficient power conversion and power management solutions, today announced financial results for the first quarter 2010. Power-One recorded net sales of $152 million for the first quarter ended April 4, 2010, an increase of 56% from the first quarter 2009. Net income attributable to common stockholders for the first quarter was $3.8 million, or $0.04 per diluted share, compared to a net loss of $61 million, or $0.70 per share for the same period last year.

Renewable energy products again recorded strong sequential revenue gains in the first quarter 2010, with positive demand trends continuing in 2010. The company's renewable energy products posted a record $82 million in revenue for the first quarter 2010, equating to a year-over-year increase of 556% from $13 million in the first quarter 2009. For the first time, renewable energy products contributed the majority of the company's revenue, at 54% of total sales in the quarter, versus 13% in the first quarter of 2009. Power-One's power products generated revenue of $70 million in the first quarter 2010 versus $85 million in the same period of 2009, with the majority of the decline due to component shortages experienced in the industry. Power-One expanded gross margin for the fourth consecutive quarter, improving to 30% in the first quarter of 2010, compared with 14% for the same period last year. Volume increases, a favorable product mix, improved processes and supply chain management contributed to the expansion. Gross margin was negatively affected by approximately $1.6 million in charges related to the closure of the Dominican Republic facility. Operating income for the first quarter 2010 was $21.1 million, or 14% of revenue, and was impacted by $2.6 million in total charges related to the closure of the Dominican Republic facility, slated to be completed by the end of the second quarter 2010. Net income included a $5.7 million dollar loss from the repurchase of $4.5 million in face value of Power-One's 8% Senior Secured Convertible Notes due 2013.

"Renewable energy products once again showed considerable strength, driving sales and gross margin improvements for Power-One," commented Richard Thompson, Chief Executive Officer. "With the growth in renewable energy and the restructuring of our power products, we are excited with our near-term opportunities. We are expanding capacity for our renewable energy inverters, signing new licensing agreements with marquee customers for our digital power technology and recording significant wins across most product lines."

Power-One stock jumps after first quarter sees strong sales to renewable energy projects

On Friday April 30, 2010, 1:38 pm EDT
NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of Power-One Inc. jumped Friday after the maker of energy conversion devices announced first-quarter sales of components for solar and wind energy installations are burgeoned.

The stock rose $2.36, or 41 percent, to $8.12 in midday trading.

Late Thursday, the Camarillo, Calif., company said it earned $3.8 million, or 4 cents per share in the first quarter. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters were expecting earnings of 1 cent per share.

Sales were $152 million, up 56 percent from a year ago. For the first time, components for renewable energy contributed the majority of the company's revenue.

Analyst Walter Nasdeo at Ardour Capital raised his price target on the stock from $5.50 to $10 in a morning research note, and kept a "Buy" rating. The company is ramping up capacity to meet strong demand, and Nasdeo expects revenue to continue to grow quickly this before leveling off next year at about $250 million per quarter.

"Margins will remain strong and we anticipate quarter-on-quarter growth as 2010 looks to be a breakout year for the company," Nasdeo wrote.
"Success loves to hide behind challenges.
Embrace the challenge, enjoy the journey."
