Ken Yi Luo, China Architectural Engineering's Chairman and CEO, commented, "These projects, the first two for CAE in 2008, are among the most exciting and high-profile of our recent engagements. The Shouguang Cultural Center will be the focal point for that city, and the Sheraton Hotel – Huhhot will likewise be a landmark building. The latter project complements another on which CAE was a major contractor, the newly finished Huhhot Baita Airport Terminal extension, where CAE designed fabricated and installed the roofing and curtain wall systems. The new engagements at Huhhot and Shouguang give further proof to the growth of CAE's reputation for both sound workmanship and exquisite design."

In Huhhot, the capital of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, CAE will design and build the external façade for the Sheraton Hotel – Huhhot. The value of the contract is approximately $7.6 million, and the project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2008. The proposed hotel development (shown here in an artist's rendering) is about 20 minutes from the Inner Mongolia Baita Airport. It will include 350 rooms with a total construction area of approximately 790,000 square feet, and is expected to open to the public in the fourth quarter of 2009. CAE is contracted to design, engineer, fabricate and install an external façade system made up of semi-hidden frame glass curtain walls, aluminum external cladding panels and terra cotta external cladding panels.

In Shouguang, one of the major cities of Shandong province, CAE has been awarded a contract valued at approximately $3.7 million to build the external façade for the city's new cultural center. The project started at the end of December, 2007, and is expected to take 12 months, with revenue recorded during fiscal year 2008. CAE is under contract for engineering, construction management and installation of the façade work. The cultural center is designed by one of China's most famous architectural institutions, the Architectural Design & Research Institute of Tongji University, and will involve a total investment estimated at up to $25 million. Its construction area of more than 420,000 square feet will include the city library, museum, concert hall, youth activities center and other public facilities.

China Architectural Engineering Reports $106.3 Million Backlog for 2008
Thursday January 17, 9:00 am ET
Sharp Rise Reflection of Successful International Growth Strategy

ZHUHAI, China & LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--China Architectural Engineering, Inc. (CAE) (AMEX:RCH - News), a leader in the design, engineering, fabrication and installation of high-end curtain wall systems, today reported that its backlog for 2008 currently stands at approximately $106.3 million. The backlog figure consists of 17 separate domestic and international contracts. Of that amount, the Company said it expects to book approximately $80.3 million in new revenue in 2008 based on contracted projects not yet started as of December 31, 2007, with additional revenue of approximately $26 million from projects already underway.

Ken Yi Luo, China Architectural Engineering's Chairman and CEO, commented, "Our current backlog, the highest ever reported by CAE, is one indication that 2008 should be a banner year. It is especially worth noting that the growth in orders is being propelled by a sharp rise in orders from outside China. This shows that the Company's strategy of seeking growth with aggressive expansion beyond its core market is bearing fruit."

CAE said the increase was due primarily to rapid growth in overseas orders. Of the 2008 backlog, 36% consists of orders for projects outside CAE's home market of China. This is a substantial increase in such orders from the fourth quarter of 2007, when they comprised about 21% of the expected revenue total.

CAE views backlog as an important statistic in evaluating its level of sales activity and short-term sales trends in its business. It also cautions that backlog is only one indicator and not the most effective indicator of the ultimate profitability of its revenues.
