Dendreon "strong buy," target price raised

Monday, April 02, 2007 4:46:59 PM ET
JMP Securities
NEW YORK, April 2 (newratings.com) - Analysts at JMP Securities reiterate their "strong buy" rating on Dendreon Corp (DNR.FSE), while revising their estimates for the company.
The target price has been raised from $12 to $20.
In a research note published on March 30, the analysts mention that Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) panel has unanimously voted in favour of the safety and efficacy of the company's Provenge's BLA for the treatment of late-stage prostate cancer. The analysts believe that the FDA would grant Dendreon an approvable letter for Provenge going forward. The EPS estimate for FY07 has been reduced from -$0.49 to -$1.15. The EPS estimate for FY10 has been raised from $0.84 to $1.27.

actually an interesting article on DNDN from TheStreet.com - seems to give Provenge fairly good backing:

I think most of the analysts are starting to line up on the positive side for DNDN now.  Today there was HEVAY resistance at $15 - enormous blocks on the ask, and it held it down... for now. I considered off-loading some of my shares (which have a 14.93 average from various buys on friday - I bought a bit in the PM and then had some limits lined up around $16, and didn't expect it to tank so hard when it was trading up so high in the PM, so had to average down during the day)  so I could get a lower average entry.  Probably should have, and annoyed that I had the opprtunity and didn't take it, but I expect we will make another test of the $15 level soon.

So far,the best way way to play this is to be in and do nothing. We shall see.

Thanks Scots.  I'm very bullish about DNDN but worried what happens if I'm wrong anyway.  I have a large position in it, so I'm looking for ways to hedge it.  I'll look into what you wrote on ratio call spreads.

yeah, I'm pretty long on DNDN right now (owning both stock, Apr 15 calls and Aug 15 calls).  But I am just trying to figure out a way to play this, options wise, probably to complement my stock position.  At the moment, I'm with you on that, I've taken out my stops and I'm just letting it ride.

I just posted one possible idea over on the "understanding options" thread. Basically using a strangle to limit risk. You can find it here:  I had a look at the ratio spreads and found some great ideas too.  I don't have time now, but I will try and post them shortly.

Hi Scots.  I liked the strangle ideas you posted back when the stock was at 15.  I'm finding calls to be a bit expensive now, though.  I've been assuming that I could count on the stock reaching 26 after approval but not necessarily higher.  So I'm a bit leary of calls that place me close to 26 before I even make any profit.  Almost better to just hold more stock if I want further exposure.  Maybe the stock will drift down at some point before the decision comes out.  Even leaps seem a bit expensive to me.  Can I really count on the stock reaching 40 or 50 in a year?  It would be nice though to get some extra leverage with a portion of my money.
