Airline stocks soar as oil falls...
Continental, US Airways, United Airlines stocks jump more than 10% as oil plunges to three-month lows.

Airline stocks went sky-high on Friday, as oil prices - the industry's nemesis - plunged to three-month lows.

"As oil is unwinding, the airlines are going back up," said Bob McAdoo, airline analyst for Avondale Partners.

In general, the money-losing airline industry has been squeezed by higher oil prices and the Amex Airline Index (XAL) is down 32% this year. But that's not counting the gains on Friday, when the index rose more than 6% in the afternoon.

Some of the individual stocks, such as Continental Airlines (CAL, Fortune 500), US Airways (LCC, Fortune 500), and UAL Corp (UAUA, Fortune 500)., the holding company for United Airlines, increased 10% or more.

OIL continues its fall from GRACE? $147-115 in just 3 months.

This will be an amazing week. Which stocks have the greatest chance of going up if OIL continues its fall from GRACE? $147-115 in just 3 months.

Fortunes will be made in the coming weeks. The answer: AIRLINES and transportation companies. The ones with solid fundamentals include LCC and UAUA. Look at the call options in the money if we have a pop in oil prices or large downdraft in DOW based on bad financial news that which has little to do with the above symbols.

There was a fear in the market that oil was headed to $200 and the Airlines would have to file for bankruptcy protection and the world was coming to an end. The end of the world has been delayed because of recent outsourcing and cutbacks. We simply do not have the available manpower.

Given the above can OIL go to $200.00? Any disruption on the oil pipelines around the world including Zimbabwe and Russia or the current two tropical waves are coming off Africa could push oil higher. Since many oil rigs are located in the Gulf of Mexico.

Are we closer to $200 or $100? I guess $100.00 and will plan accordingly. If the trade goes against me I will be out. .

Is trading above its 13-day moving average. This is considered to be the sign of a bullish trend. There is added weight to this indication because the moving average is rising and suggests that there has been buying interest in this stock.

Maybe.......

Symmetrical Triangle (Continuation)

The symmetrical triangle, which can also be referred to as a coil, usually forms during a trend as a continuation pattern. The pattern contains at least two lower highs and two higher lows. When these points are connected, the lines converge as they are extended and the symmetrical triangle takes shape. You could also think of it as a contracting wedge, wide at the beginning and narrowing over time.

While there are instances when symmetrical triangles mark important trend reversals, they more often mark a continuation of the current trend. Regardless of the nature of the pattern, continuation or reversal, the direction of the next major move can only be determined after a valid breakout.

Edwards and Magee suggest that roughly 75% of symmetrical triangles are continuation patterns and the rest mark reversals. The reversal patterns can be especially difficult to analyze and often have false breakouts. Even so, we should not anticipate the direction of the breakout, but rather wait for it to happen. Further analysis should be applied to the breakout by looking for gaps, accelerated price movements, and volume for confirmation. Confirmation is especially important for upside breakouts.

Prices sometimes return to the breakout point of apex on a reaction move before resuming in the direction of the breakout. This return can offer a second chance to participate with a better reward to risk ratio. Potential reward price targets found by measurement and parallel trend line extension are only meant to act as rough guidelines. Technical analysis is dynamic and ongoing assessment is required. In the first example above, SUNW may have fulfilled its target (42) in a few months, but the stock gave no sign of slowing down and advanced above 100 in the following months.

Sector Snap: Airline shares decline
Airline stocks decline as oil prices hold onto recent gains
On Friday May 22, 2009, 1:29 pm EDT

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Airline shares fell slightly again on Friday as oil prices held above $61 a barrel.

The Amex Airline Index was down 1.6 percent, with all of its U.S. components lower.

UBS airline analyst Kevin Crissey wrote in a note that after meeting executives from eight airlines, he concluded that May passenger revenue "will likely be awful as discounting continues, fuel surcharges roll off, and comparisons get very tough. ... International premium cabin revenue remains practically nonexistent," while leisure demand is better but still weakening, he wrote.

"Airline revenue trends are every bit as bad as after Sept. 11 and large losses by most of the network carriers are likely," he wrote.

Airlines have been cutting capacity this year. Crissey predicted additional cuts for after Labor Day but questioned whether they would be deep enough.

The big decliners were Continental Airlines Inc., down 51 cents, or 4.9 percent, to $9.94, JetBlue Airways Corp., down 27 cents, or 5.5 percent, to $4.64, and AirTran Holdings Inc., down 45 cents, or 7.6 percent, to $5.49.

Shares of Delta Air Lines Inc. lost 21 cents, or 3.3 percent, falling to $6.25. American Airlines parent AMR Corp. fell 13 cents, or 2.8 percent, to $4.49. United Airlines parent UAL Corp. shed 12 cents, or 2.5 percent, to $4.77. US Airways Group Inc. was down 8 cents, or 2.7 percent, to $2.91.

Southwest Airlines Co. fell a penny to $6.75.

Among the broader markets, better-than-expected earnings from retailers helped lift the major indexes.
