Anthony Weiner's Lewd Photo and Four Reasons Why He Should Resign...
Saturday June 11, 2011

Four Reasons Why Anthony Weiner Should Resign.

Boy, what makes politicians in New York magnets for sex scandals?

Democratic Rep. Eric Massa resigned his upstate seat last year amid allegations he had sexually harassed male staffers. Massa denied the allegations but acknowledged having "tickle fights" with men in his office.

Following a drunken driving arrest in 2008, Republican Rep. Vito Fossella, a married father of three, was forced to acknowledge he had fathered a daughter with a mistress. Fossella, who represented the New York City borough of Staten Island, declined to run for re-election that year.

One of New York's most infamous political sex scandals involved former Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who resigned in 2008 after 14 months in office after being identified as "Client 9" in a prostitution bust. Before becoming governor in 2006, Spitzer, the state's former attorney general, had earned a national reputation in part for prosecuting prostitution rings. Ironic, huh.

Now, New Yorkers can add Representative Anthony Weiner to their list of the "Hall of Shame". Weiner admitted Monday that he sent a lewd photo to a woman over Twitter after initially claiming he was hacked. Saying he is "deeply ashamed," he also said he has conducted explicit online conversations with other women over the last three years. To make matters worse, it was revealed that his wife, Huma Abedin, is pregnant with their first child. Perfect timing.

Weiner said what he did "was a mistake," but insists he will not resign and that voters ultimately will decide his fate.

I say he shouldn't wait that long; he should resign. Here are four reasons why.

1. America Hates A Liar

When I first heard Wiener's flimsy explanation that his twitter account was hacked and the photos were part of an elaborate hoax, I almost laughed.

I thought," This is just like when you get an e-mail and you accidently hit the "reply all" feature".  Basically, that is what happened—Weiner made his photos public to all of his Twitter followers.

Had Weiner used this simple explanation, this scandal would be over. Dead. Instead, Weiner provided a cryptic array of explanations over the last couple of days—

Asked by NBC's Luke Russert whether the photograph was of his own genitals, Weiner replied:  "You know, I can't say with certitude."

Please.

Had he just admitted what he had done, he would have looked foolish, immature, and perhaps even somewhat predatory and creepy. But the story would have ended in hours, and remained as nothing more than a political punch line. The national media would happily have turned their attention elsewhere, with any further disclosures disarmed by a full admission.

But no....Instead, Weiner lied. He lied all week. He allowed his associates to attack the media, especially conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart, for asking questions about a story that clearly did not add up. Weiner even allowed his staff to call the police on a well-known TV reporter from his city simply for wanting to ask Weiner more questions. In the end, Weiner still looks immature, foolish, creepy – and now he looks like a liar as well.

2.  Although Anthony Weiner (thanks to his name) Was the Butt of Jokes Before This Scandal, He Has Now Become a True Laughingstock.

Rep. Anthony Weiner's admission to tweeting lewd pictures of himself has turned him into a late-night laughingstock. Here's a roundup of the best Weiner jokes:

"It turns out that one of the women Congressman Anthony Weiner was communicating with was a porn star. When asked how it was possible to get involved with someone in such a sleazy business, the porn star said, 'I don't know.'" —Conan O'Brien

"Congressman Weiner is in a lot of trouble since he tweeted those pictures. But good news for him, he just found out he'll be allowed to keep his porn name ... Anthony Weiner." —Conan O'Brien

"I don't know if laws were broken or not, but Weiner was sending around pictures of him in his underpants and I thought, Well, now, wait a minute, what is the big deal? Don't men and women in Congress get to mail their packages for free?!" —David Letterman

The Battle of the Bulge. Weiner is Shrinking. Hide the Weiner. Sexts Show He's the Kink of Queens.

"The jokes are almost too easy,'' says Los Angeles-based standup comic Gary Cannon.

This list goes on and on. Here's the Point: It's hard to lead when everybody is laughing at you.

3. His Fellow Democrats in Congress Are Not Coming to His Defense.

The combative passion and sharp sarcasm that made him a favorite of the left has also earned him the reputation as a media hound and showboat. In spite of having some degree of seniority (he is serving his seventh term in the House), he holds no leadership position in the party. Maybe Weiner has not always been a team player. And his team is deserting him now.

No Democrats have publicly supported the embattled Congressman and Leader Nancy Pelosi called for an ethics investigation.

"They are really mad at him. You can just see former speaker Pelosi is furious," Democratic strategist James Carville said.

Rep. Allyson Schwartz (Pa.), the head of recruiting for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), said Wiener's "offensive behavior" makes him unfit to remain in office.

"Having the respect of your constituents is fundamental for a member of Congress," Schwartz said Wednesday in a statement. "In light of Anthony Wiener's offensive behavior online, he should resign."

The Weiner scandal is an enormous distraction for Democratic leaders, who are hoping to focus the summer's debate on issues like soaring gas prices, the lingering jobs crisis and the Republican plan to change Medicare.

Instead, the Wiener's behavior has dominated the headlines of the last two weeks, forcing Democratic leaders to distance themselves from one of the party's most effective messengers. And the story doesn't appear to be fading. Just wait until more raunchy details are revealed.

4. Even If He Doesn't Resign, He May Not Have a Job Thanks to Redistricting.

Thanks to the 2010 Census, New York will lose two of its 29 seats in Congress — one Democratic, the other Republican. If Weiner does not resign, Democrats could consider using redistricting to force him out.

The notion of making Weiner what one well-placed Democrat called  "a sacrificial lamb" had been floated by party strategists in Washington even before Monday's bombshell revelation.

It would be one thing for him to win reelection in the district that has elected him seven times before; it would be quite another for him to pull off a feat like that when he's before a newly formed constituency, starting from scratch, and appealing to voters who never paid attention to him before his recent Twitter mishap.

Some Final Advice

Look, I realize some politicians have weathered the storms of sex scandals and survived—most notably Bill Clinton. But Antony Weiner lacks the political skills, charisma, and the power of the bully pulpit that Clinton had.

Weiner should realize that he is becoming an embarrassment to his party, his constituents, and his pregnant wife. His very presence in Congress is a media distraction. He continues to fuel America's cynicism about their elected leaders.

If he would have came clean from day one this story would have never turned into the circus we've witnessed. It was the threat of more pictures that scared Weiner into telling the truth, not his desire to do the right thing for his district, his family or his wife.

No, all Weiner could think about was himself. Now he should for once, put his power lust aside and do the right thing. He should resign immediately.

Joe Wilson (R-SC) The congressman from South Carolina interrupted a major televised speech about health care reform by President Barack Obama to a joint session of Congress. After Obama said that no illegal aliens would be accepted under his health plan, Rep. Wilson shouted, "You lie!" The incident resulted in a formal rebuke by the House of Representatives. He later admitted that the outburst was "inappropriate". (2009)

Judicial Branch...
G. Thomas Porteous The Federal Judge for Eastern Louisiana was unanimously impeached by the US House of Representatives on charges of corruption and perjury in March 2010. He was convicted by the US Senate and removed from office. He had been appointed by Bill Clinton. (2010)

John Ensign...
John Eric Ensign (born March 25, 1958) is a former United States Senator from Nevada, serving from January 2001 until he resigned amid an investigation of ethics violation in May 2011. He is a member of the Republican Party and the former chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee.

Extramarital affair...
Main article: John Ensign scandal
Between 2007 and 2008 Senator Ensign had an affair with Cynthia Hampton. The disclosure of these events led to investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Election Commission, and the Senate. In late April, Ensign announced that he would resign his office as Senator on May 3. In May 2011 the Senate panel referred the case to the Department of Justice.

Bill Clinton President(D)  >:D
Impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice for allegedly lying under oath about sexual relations with intern Monica Lewinsky. Clinton was acquitted by the Senate and remained in office. Clinton subsequently was cited for contempt of court and agreed to a five-year suspension of his Arkansas law license. (1998). On October 1, 2001, Bill Clinton was barred from practicing law before the Supreme Court of the United States.

Clinton turning the White House into a Whore House !

Lewinsky scandal...
Clinton's sexual relationship with a 22-year-old White House intern named Monica Lewinsky led to the Lewinsky scandal. In a lame duck session after the 1998 elections, the House voted to impeach Clinton, based on allegations Clinton lied about his relationship with Lewinsky in a sworn deposition in the Paula Jones lawsuit. This made Clinton only the second U.S. president to be impeached; the first was Andrew Johnson.

Impeachment and trial in the Senate...
After the Starr report was submitted to the House providing what it termed "substantial and credible information that President Clinton Committed Acts that May Constitute Grounds for an Impeachment", the House began impeachment hearings before the mid-term elections. Although the mid-term elections held in November 1998 were at the 6-year point in an 8-year presidency (a time in the electoral cycle where the party holding the White House usually loses Congressional seats), the Democratic Party gained several seats.

To hold impeachment proceedings, the Republican leadership called a lame duck session in December 1998.

While the House Judiciary Committee hearings ended in a straight-party-line vote, there was lively debate on the House floor. The two charges passed in the House (largely with Republican support, but with a handful of Democratic votes as well) were for perjury and obstruction of justice. The perjury charge arose from Clinton's testimony about his relationship to Monica Lewinsky during a sexual harassment lawsuit (later dismissed, appealed and settled for $850,000) brought by former Arkansas state employee Paula Jones. The obstruction charge was based on his actions during the subsequent investigation of that testimony. The Senate later voted to acquit Clinton on both charges. The Senate refused to convene to hold an impeachment trial before the end of the old term, so the trial was held over until the next Congress. Clinton was represented by Washington law firm Williams & Connolly.

The Senate concluded a twenty-one day trial on February 12, 1999, with the vote on both counts falling short of the Constitutional two-thirds majority requirement to convict and remove an office holder. The final vote was generally along party lines, with no Democrats voting guilty. Some Republicans voted not guilty for both charges. On the perjury charge, fifty-five senators voted to acquit, including ten Republicans, and forty-five voted to convict; on the obstruction charge the Senate voted 50–50.

To serve for the better of this country he should have been impeached and thrown out of the Office of the President ! ???
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sexual misconduct allegationsThroughout his career, Clinton has been subject to various allegations of sexual misconduct, though he has only admitted extramarital relationships with Monica Lewinsky and Gennifer Flowers.

For alleged misconduct during his governorship, Paula Jones brought a sexual harassment lawsuit against Clinton while he was president. Clinton argued that as a sitting president, he should not be vulnerable to a civil suit of this nature. The case landed in the U.S. Supreme Court. The Supreme Court held that "Deferral of this litigation until petitioner's Presidency ends is not constitutionally required."

However, a U.S. judge in Arkansas, Susan Webber Wright, ruled that since Jones had not suffered any damages, the case should be dismissed. On April 2, 1998, Judge Susan Webber Wright dismissed Jones' lawsuit. On July 31, 1998, Jones appealed the dismissal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

During the deposition for the Jones lawsuit, which was held at the White House, Clinton denied having sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky – a denial that became the basis for the impeachment charge of perjury.

On November 18, 1998, Clinton agreed to an out-of-court settlement, and agreed to pay Jones and her attorneys a sum of $850,000.00. Clinton, however, still offered no apology to Jones and still denied ever engaging in a sexual affair with her.

In 1998, Kathleen Willey alleged Clinton sexually assaulted her four years previously. In 1998, Juanita Broaddrick alleged Clinton raped her some twenty years previously. The accusations by Willey and Broaddrick were never brought before a court. The independent counsel determined Willey gave "false information" to the FBI and inconsistent sworn testimony related to the Jones allegation. Willey was also able to dodge perjury charges after Kenneth Starr granted her immunity for her testimony. Broaddrick's only sworn testimony about Clinton was a previous denial of any harassment by Clinton. Gennifer Flowers, Elizabeth Ward Gracen, Sally Perdue, and Dolly Kyle Browning each have reported having adulterous sexual relations with Clinton during or before his service as governor. Gracen later apologized to Hillary Clinton.

Dolly Kyle Browning alleged that she and Clinton engaged in a long sexual affair. Browning began writing a "semi-autobiographical novel" about the affair. In the publication process, Browning asserted that Clinton did everything in his power to prohibit and undermine publication. Browning sued Clinton for damages, but the US Court of Appeals denied her appeal.

Just another sideshow of the circus in Washington.
Illinois Congressman arrested in front of White House...

U.S. Representative Luis V. Gutierrez (D-IL)  ::) applauds at a news conference to celebrate the passage of the "Dream Act" in the House of Representatives in Washington, December 17, 2010.

On Wednesday July 27, 2011, 9:49 am
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic Congressman Luis Gutierrez was arrested in front of the White House on Tuesday afternoon while protesting deportation of illegal immigrants, a spokesman said.

Gutierrez was released and made it back to the floor of the House of Representatives in time for the final vote of the day after paying a $100 fine, said the spokesman, Douglas Rivlin.

The 10-term Illinois representative has long worked on immigration issues, taking a prominent role in pushing the DREAM Act in Congress, which would give young people who have lived in the United States at length paths to citizenship.

Gutierrez and about a dozen other immigration protesters were arrested after sitting down in front of the White House, in an area where people are supposed to keep moving.

The arrests came after U.S. Park Police warned the protesters twice. They were put in plastic handcuffs and taken to a waiting van, Rivlin said.

The arrested were part of a larger protest by groups which say that under President Barack Obama's watch, more people have been deported than under any other president.

"The President says Republicans are blocking immigration reform and he's right, but it doesn't get him off the hook. Everyone knows he has the power to stop deporting DREAMers and others with deep roots in the U.S. and we think he should use it," Gutierrez said in a statement released by one of the protesting groups.

The Obama administration has said that while it supports the DREAM act and other reforms, its deportations are in accordance with existing law.

In May 2010, Gutierrez was also arrested at the White House in an immigration protest. He was then taken to Park Police facility in Anacostia Park, and asked to pay a $100 fine, according to Rivlin.

Among those arrested with Gutierrez on Tuesday were Deepak Bhargava, the executive director of the Center for Community Change; and Gustavo Torres, head of CASA de Maryland, which played a significant role in getting legislation similar to the DREAM Act approved in Maryland.

;D The Government needs to check the donations to his "warchest" to make sure the drug Cartels are not making huge contributions towards his reelection. Gutierrez should be explaining to the illegal trespassers the procedure to apply for a Visa. The USA has enough broke, uneducated baby producers here without them here overrunning the Social Services Departments.

It is too bad that everyone seems to think we need immigration reform. What we need is for the military to round up all illegals and send them packing. They abuse our system. We pay their health care and everything goes up in price for the citizen so the law breakers can get something that doesn't belong to them. I hope there are fewer and fewer jobs so they will go back to their rightful place. I can't go to Mexico and get what they get here free. Hell I can't get anything free in my own country. Then our government perverts want to tell me to bend over so they can suck more out of me until I'm on welfare. Enough is enough bozos in Washington. Go home before we rise up and you then will see you should have listened. 2012 send them all packing !!!

An example of why we are in such bad shape. Our representatives will do anything to get re-elected regardless of the harm to the country. It IS possible to look after your constituents without harmful impacts to the country, but people like this will do anything to get the vote with no regards to impacts to our country or society.

Congressman David Wu To Resign Over Sex Scandal...

PORTLAND, Oregon (Reuters)— Oregon Democratic Congressman David Wu, accused of an unwanted sexual encounter with a campaign donor's teenage daughter, said on Tuesday he will resign his seat to defend himself against "these very serious allegations."

The decision by Wu, 56, to step down came a day after he announced he would not seek an eighth term in office, as Nancy Pelosi, the top-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives, referred the matter to the House Ethics Committee for investigation.

Wu becomes the latest in a long line of politicians from both parties to become caught up in sex scandals over the years, and the second House Democrat in little over a month to have his tenure cut short by such a controversy.

New York Representative Anthony Weiner resigned in June after he admitted lying about sending lewd photos of himself to women over the Internet.

Wu's conduct has been called into question previously. He acknowledged earlier this year he was undergoing psychiatric treatment after his staff complained of erratic behavior, including his e-mailing of a picture of himself dressed in a tiger costume.

Wu, the first Chinese-American elected to Congress, did not give a precise date for his resignation, saying only that he planned to step down "effective upon the resolution of the debt-ceiling crisis." Congress faces an early August deadline to pass legislation raising the nation's debt ceiling to avoid a U.S. default on its obligations.

While he made no explicit mention of the exact misconduct he is accused of, Wu said in his statement, "I cannot care for my family the way I wish while serving in Congress and fighting these very serious allegations."

SPECIAL ELECTION

Wu represents Oregon's heavily Democratic 1st Congressional District, which encompasses the western side of Portland, the state's largest city, as well as more rural areas in Oregon's northwestern corner.

The governor will call for a special election to fill Wu's seat for the remainder of his term.

Two other Democrats already had declared their intention to challenge Wu in next year's primary before the scandal broke -- state labor commissioner Brad Avakian and state lawmaker Brad Witt of Clatskanie, Oregon, northwest of Portland.

No Republicans have immediately announced plans to run. But Oregon Republican Party Chairman Allen Alley called the 1st District "absolutely a winnable Republican seat," citing what he described as a shift in the national political tone.

Although Democrats account for 42.4 percent of registered voters in the district, compared with 30.1 percent for Republicans, a sizable bloc, 27.5 percent, are registered as independent. In 2010, Wu's Republican challenger, Rob Cornilles, lost by 10 percentage points.

The latest allegations against Wu surfaced last week when the Portland Oregonian reported the daughter of a high school friend who contributed to Wu's campaign accused him of making an unwanted sexual advance around Thanksgiving of last year.

Details of the nature of the alleged encounter have not been disclosed. Wu has not denied the accusation and has acknowledged more than once the allegation was "serious."

The Oregonian newspaper said Wu's accuser, who has not been identified, was from Orange County, California, graduated from high school in 2010, and was 18 at the time of the incident.
