AAPL bounce today more than 6%...but the uptrend still not confirm, indicators still showing bearish signals as well as moving averages.... MA50 (weekly) stands tomorrow @ $55.10

For ur info, I don't have position in this stock (LONG or SHORT) ;)

I think that yesterday's move was quite significant, and bodes very well for a reversal from here - the PPS tagged (and just dipped below) the 200MA, which was obviously what a lot of people were waiting for before re-entering a position in the stock they pulled out of some time ago, suggesting that what has been considered an over-extended stock for some time has finally come into line, but also that the long term bullish trend should still be intact.  The volume yesterday was the second highest in the last 6 months, and probably the 3rd highest in the last year, providing confirmation that seriuous money was coming back into the stock, and I would expect that the strong white candle, combined with volume and a move from oversold levels will bring AAPL back up on a lot of radars this week (if it ever leaves them!).

Technically I see a falling wedge reversal play in action.  AAPL made a third tag of descending support yesterday at its low, before bouncing back strongly.  I am looking for two confirmation indicators to give us an idea if this move has legs.  The first is a move above resistance around 62.30-50, where it topped out yesterday.  This should at least put it on its way to $65.  The second is a breakout of the descending wedge, which comes in around 63.20, which I would see as confirmation of a reversal in the short to medium term.

Apple has a lot of good news about to come out - their 30th birthday is on the 1st of April, and while no official media event has been scheduled yet, rumours are arife already about what they will release for it.  High on the list is a wide-screen full-video iPod, along with Movie content in iTunes.  Such a release seems to be quite possible, and anyone following the stock should remember what the releases of the nano and new iPod did to the PPS last autumn.  Also expected are new iBooks, and possibly a high-end 17" MacBook Pro.  They also just released Universal versions of their Final Cut Pro apps, which should provide a strong driver for further pro sales next quarter.

The big question is whether they will miss earnings for the quarter when they release in a few weeks time.  It is possible that they may miss analysts forecasts on iPods, which would not be good, especially as this seems to be what the street likes to focus on.  But sales of their new Intel models appear to be doing extremely well, especially the new iMacs and MacBooks.  I'm gonna wait to make a decision whether to hold through earnings a little closer to the time.

But for now, with technicals turing round and the Apple hype machine kicking into gear again, I think it is probably a safe hold for the next week or two.

We'll see ;)

AAPL Hit and bounced off descending resistance of the falling wedge yesterday, but held strong towards the close - watch for a breakout of the wedge today.  Is up slightly PM, let's see if it will run....

ScottishTrader

AAPL forming an ascending triangle on 15 min chart - look for a breakout above 63.30, but watch out for a breakdown - i see 62.60 as short term support.

ScottishTrader

AAPL looks to be breaking down - descending channel in control - 62.60 is dust

Holygrale

A couple of PR's and were off to the races thru $65...........

This is way oversold.......................IMHO

ScottishTrader

AAPL looks like it may break out on monday, having formed a nice ascending triangle on the 15min chart - the ascending triangle I posted earlier on Friday was broken, and an intraday bear channel formed, but this turned into just a part of the slightly larger ascending triangle.  Alas, the problem of evolving charts!!

I see clear resistance at 63.30, currently the level of the 20MA - this level has been tested 5 or 6 times in the last couple of days, and while AAPL gapped above this level on Friday, it quickly pulled back below in the first 5 minutes of trading.  The Daily chart shows that this level is also descending resistance of the falling wedge.  I believe a break of 63.30 would be quite significant and could lead to a substantial run next week.

I have to disclose that I sold my AAPL on Friday for a small gain when it broke 62.60, as I mentioned on Friday, but this was maybe a little premature.  Right now I am looking for confirmation of a bullish breakout of the descending wedge, and will buy back in on a break of 63.30.

Happy trading ;)

Huge news for Apple today, that they have released  Boot Camp - which allows the installation and running of Windows XP (and presumably vista when it comes out) on Intel Macs - in fact I am currently writing this on my nice shiny iMac, running XP perfectly!!

The hackers had been at work for weeks trying to get this running, and having recently succeeded through what to all intents and purposes is a convoluted, dangerous (for your data) and difficult procedure, Apple, come out with this to show that they have been working on it for a lot longer, and installation is a piece of cake!!

This is really huge news for Apple, as it allows them to directly target the segment of the market that are PC users that like Apple, but cannot do without their key Windows apps.  Now they can boot intop them and run Windows natively under MacIntel!!

Now really, who wouldn't want a Mac that can run MacOS X and Windows natively!!!

I really think this is the beginning of a major turnaround for AAPL (which already started last week).  We should soon get news of the iPod video, new Intel iBooks and maybe some other product releases in the near future, and while analysts have been cutting their earnings forecast for this quarter, AAPL trades hugely on future expectations.  This announcement bodes very well for them taking a much bigger bite out of the PC market share than analysts have previously expected, and I think that the PPS and upgrades in the near future will reflect that.

Go AAPL!!!

I guess I was kind of hoping that gap would get filled at $67. Don't think its going to happen today anymore.

Burst.com Files Patent Infringement Against Apple
Tuesday , April 18, 2006 01:00 ET

Apr 18, 2006 (financialwire.net via COMTEX) -- April 18, 2006 (FinancialWire) Burst.com, a California based developer of digital media technologies, said that it had filed a counterclaim against Apple Computer Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL).

The counterclaims were in response to a suit Apple had filed earlier in the year, asking the software maker to publicly invalidate patents the company previously held. Burst has reiterated in relation to the development of Apple's iTunes store, softpod, iPod players, and Quicktime streaming devices. Burst claims that these devices infringe upon four patents owned by them.

Burst.com is seeking royalty fees and an injunction against further patent infringements by Apple.

A spokesperson for Apple was not available for comment.

With Apple's earnings coming out tomorrow, I would probably hold off on buying AAPL until after earnings at least (in case anyone is considering it...) to see how things look from there. The market's response to earnings, especially for AAPL, tends to be very difficult to predict.  While they are likely to beat their own estimates, the street's expectations for Apple tend to be unrealistically high, and considering the fact there has been a lot of downward pressure over the last several days, we could see a sell-off if they don't make 46 cents, (vs. AAPL's own estiamtes of 38 cents), which would be an absolute blow out quarter.  They continue to guide conservatively, possibly in an attempt to bring down the Street's lofty expectations in line with something that is reasonably possible.  Bear in mind that they are still likely to show their second best quarter in history (after the last quarter), and do have a definite ability to surprise.

Long term, I do still like AAPL, and I think that the Intel transition and Boot Camp, as well as the iPod halo effect are likely to continue to drive an increase in PC market share over then next year or two, which could improve numbers significantly.  I think anything below $60 would be quite attractive, but would like to see some consolidation heading into a reversal.
