There's always a bull market somewhere and I promise to bla bla bla bla........

David Randolph

You were right ultra1066, we've seen some buying on SNUS, but it failed to materialize into a meaningful rally. I have no problem with that, the stock seems to be on a consolidation phase and probably it will soon make its bullish move.

The reason for today's stock price dip is the registration with the SEC this morning of the 4,651,869 shares Sonus issued on August 15. See:

Effective today, Atlas Master Fund, Ltd. can sell 2,554,912 shares that they got for $3.77 per share. It behooves them to see it all as soon as they can to capture the arbitrage.

I have noticed that after private placement, some force will push the price up.

During the process the company normally will have some good news to support
their private placement.

Take SNUS for example, they announced $17.8 million placement on August 16 and positive news release August 18.

August 31 sees the biggest volume with price break out.

David Randolph

Ouch, that wasn't pretty  :P

It looks like SNUS chart was too good to be true. It was too easy. Now we have some doubt in the air. Yes, we've had a false breakout of the $4.5 resistance level, which was a very watched level, but the trend, defined by the ascending trendline, is still bullish.

The market is shaking the tree on SNUS. I'm still hanging and will continue to do so for as long as it closes above the ascending trendline which for today will stand at $4.07, rising $0.02 everyday.

David Randolph

We've had a 3.6% rise on SNUS but that wasn't great, because it still closed below $4.5 (or, at least, not above it).

I am a bit tempted to sell right away this losing position, because I'm short term bearish on the general market and the stock isn't strong enough to rise against a down market, but, I remember my past and what it cost me to get to this point in terms of discipline, and I know I will do better over time if I stick to my previously made trading plan.

So I will continue to hold SNUS for as long as it closes above the ascending trendline, which for today will be sitting at $4.08.

Don't want to be picky, but shouldn't that be $ 4,09 for today  ;)

David Randolph

You're right Amarens, it should be $4.09  :)

What happens is that sometimes these oblique lines differ a bit on Metastock, sometimes they occupy more than one value. Just a microscopic change in the slope may change values, so one shouldn't look for exact points, more for support and resistance zones or ranges.

For example, today I'm working on another computer, and on this the trendline for today stands at $4.14, instead of the expected $4.11. Many traders with many computers will see the trendline at slight different values, but in the same range.

Anyway, SNUS isn't behaving well and a drop to the ascending trendline is almost inevitable. But I don't find this action tradable, so what I'll do is to continue with my trading plan of holding for as long as the stock closes above the ascending trendline which for today is standing at $4.14.

David Randolph

SNUS=$4.375 > TL=$4.12 => HOLD SNUS

IF SNUS < $4.12 => SELL SNUS

(my computer went down, connectivity here is almost impossible, I'm unable to post annotated chart)

basonista

Stayed above trendline and it appears to have bounced off support around the 4.20-4.25 level.  Also staying inside big white candle of the end of August.

David Randolph

Thanks for the chart basonista, let me applaud you  :)

I said this two days ago:

QuoteAnyway, SNUS isn't behaving well and a drop to the ascending trendline is almost inevitable. But I don't find this action tradable, so what I'll do is to continue with my trading plan of holding for as long as the stock closes above the ascending trendline which for today is standing at $4.14.

So, the recent decline was expected. Though it wasn't tradable, at least not for position trading purposes, I don't want to waste time trading sardines here. That's to be done in the futures market, not with stocks, I believe.

Well, SNUS is coming down to the ascending trendline and it needs to bounce from that support line, or I'll have to sell. It's amazing how just a tiny correction to an ascending trendline can represent a 15% loss on these small priced stocks. Perhaps I should start looking to buy on declines to support instead of breakouts, those are proving to be the most profitable and fast profits.

For today I have the ascending trendline on SNUS at $4.18. I want to see a bounce from a touch on that level, if that fails to happen and the stock is set to close below $4.18 I'll take my loss and move on.

David Randolph

SNUS didn't touch support but bounced anyway. Volume was a bit stronger too (although still low on absolute terms, just 97,000 shares). Perhaps I'll need to redesign the trendline to reflect this behaviour from SNUS, the line was at $4.18 but the low on Friday was $4.25.

I'll leave it as it is for now, just want to check if this bounce will produce any material advance phase, I hope so. For tomorrow the ascending trendline will be at $4.19, I don't want to see SNUS closing below that level, or I'll sell.

The market needs to continue to agree that fundamentals are improving for me to keep holding the stock.

I was a bit suspicious about Friday's advance on SNUS, the stock didn't touch support before the bounce. But now it did, it came down to touch support, so now it should bounce clearly to remain bullish. I believe this is what will indeed happen.

But I must respect the market will and wisdom, not mine. So if the stock breaks the ascending trendline on close, if it is set to close below $4.21 today, I have to sell and admit I was wrong on this trade.

I hope this stock keeps its uptrend going.Fundamentally speaking it is a good stock. How can the FDA not aproove its drug? It has a 67% better efficacy than its variant which is allready aprrooved. It seems like a no brainer to me.We'll just have to wait to see how long before they start stage 3 trials.I beleive they should have been started allready but we haven't seen any news.Thats when the stock really will climb higher.

Thanks for your input ultra1066  :) I prefer not to enter into fundamental details when a stock is at a crucial technical point. I could fall in love with the fundamental story and then it would be harder to stick to the plan and practice an healthy discipline for long term above average performance.

Like every human being I have my weaknesses. As an investor I need to know those weaknesses and protect the trading capital from them. I believe this is very important, and it took me years to identify where I was weak and sorting out ways of dealing with those weaknesses.

For example, I trade the DAX futures for 7 years now. I had my streaks of wins (even bought a Porsche and a country house with the DAX profits  8)) and had some trading bankruptcies too (my futures trading account went to zero about 4 times in those 7 years  :-[).

I found out that it took me several months to have good gains and then I went down fast and lose it all in just a few days, to start all over again. Altough I was very good at trading for a long time suddenly I would break a sound money management rule and it was all lost, I was lost in the market and quickly all the profits and the initial capital went down the tube.

Why? I couldn't control myself. At some stage I would fall in love with a fundamental macro story or something and I would not only stick to a losing position, but I would even add to it. And then I was too big to fail, and of course I indeed failed. Everytime I raised my bets too much I went down big. This happened so many times that I knew I had to figure a way for this to never happen again. So I did the following:

I called my broker and told him to set my trading software to let me trade just one fixed amount of contracts. The system doesn't let me trade more than that number of contracts. I can only revise this every 2 months, with plenty of thought, not on an impulsive click.

I had more problems day trading the DAX futures and I dealt with them, not refusing that I had weaknesses, but embracing them and dealing with them, putting machines at my service.

Well, where was I? Which stock is this? Oh, let me talk about SNUS:

SNUS indeed reacted to the ascending support as we were thinking. Volume was very low though. I will hold the stock for as long as it closes above the ascending trendline, which for tomorrow will be standing at $4.24.
