SIGA Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: SIGA) announced that, on November 16, 2006, its Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Dennis E. Hruby, will make a presentation on the progress of SIGA-246 to the World Health Organization's Smallpox Advisory Committee on Variola Virus Research. Dr. Hruby is attending by invitation and will serve as a temporary advisor to the Committee which is meeting in Geneva, Switzerland. This is the second year in a row that Dr. Hruby has been invited to make a presentation to the WHO on the development status of SIGA's smallpox antiviral drug (SIGA-246). "Given the central role of the WHO in safeguarding the health and well-being of the global citizenry, we appreciate the opportunity to update them on the recent significant advancements in developing SIGA-246 since we introduced the compound to the WHO last year," commented Dr. Hruby.

In October 2006, SIGA announced that SIGA-246 completely protected non-human primates from lethal doses of smallpox (variola virus). SIGA-246 is the first drug ever to demonstrate 100% protection against human smallpox virus in a primate trial, which was conducted at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Recently, SIGA also announced that oral dosing with SIGA-246 completely protected non-human primates from lethal doses of monkeypox virus even when treatment started 3 days after infection and at doses equivalent to the potential human dose. Monkeypox virus is closely related to human smallpox virus and causes a similar disease in both monkeys and humans. "These monkeypox studies are important in that the disease in non-human primates recapitulates smallpox disease seen in humans, and this model will be used as one of the definitive animal models the FDA will use to evaluate this drug. These results also confirm that SIGA-246 can be used both to treat smallpox and in the event of a monkeypox or related outbreak, such as the multi-state monkeypox outbreak in June 2003," stated Dr. Hruby. These primate trials and the human safety trial announced earlier this year demonstrate that SIGA-246 should be a safe and effective antiviral.

Smallpox virus is considered one of the most significant threats for use as a biowarfare agent due to the fact that since 1972 people in the United States have not been vaccinated against it. Smallpox is very easily transmitted from person to person, and has high mortality rates (30-60%) with 90% morbidity. Weaponized smallpox virus may have an incubation period as short as 3-7 days. It is classified as a Category A agent by the CDC. Mass immunizations of the general population using the current live vaccines are not recommended. Available vaccines are known to cause complications in certain individuals, including encephalitis, myocarditis, disseminated vaccinia virus infection, and death. At present there is no treatment for smallpox that can be safely administered to the general population without significant risk of adverse reactions.

saw that - nice.  SIGA is getting real global exposure.  Is tarting to look better, but I think they may shake the tree a little more before the next leg up...

Motly fool article

Why We Love Wild Penny Stocks
By Tim Hanson (TMF Mmbop) and Brian Richards (TMF Brich)
November 16, 2006

Penny stocks have huge potential -- that's their blessing and their curse.

The potential rewards are enormous. Just take a look at the returns from SIGA Technologies (Nasdaq: SIGA) or Ocean Bio-Chem (Nasdaq: OBCI) since the beginning of September -- the stocks have each more than doubled.

Those $1 and $2 doubles look like easy gains, considering that Seaboard (AMEX: SEB) would have to add another $1,500 in value to double its share price, and Alleghany (NYSE: Y) would need to throw another $330 on the fire to eke out another double.

Everybody loves pennies
It's the potential of quick gains in stocks like SIGA and Ocean Bio-Chem that keeps investors coming back. We typed "penny stocks" into Google and the search engine spit out "about 1,760,000" hits. We did the same for more time-tested terms such as "blue-chip stocks" and "dividend-paying stocks" and got just 309,000 and 191,000 hits, respectively.

Sure, we expected a discrepancy, but the size of the gap was startling. It became even more interesting when we broke down those hits with Google Trends. According to Trends, penny stocks are particularly alluring to investors in Orlando, Las Vegas, Tampa, and Calgary -- the locales where the term is most often searched.

Your right that they do this as there way of advertising, but at the same time it's there way of bashing a stock. They are as bad or worse than stockleman IMO. I think this did have an effect on todays trading.

I got in @ 3.82 yesterday... SIGA is in a strong uptrend trend, if it can close above $3.92 this session we might see above $5.50 next week...

I'm trading SIGA based purely on technicals ;)

Let's play fair guys.... I got stop out @ 3.80 loss -0.52% plus commission 9.95 each :(

Bad trading!!!

Bad trading!!!

On the contrary.

Your entry at the 50% retracement was very, very good.  Pattern support got broken just before 11:00 AM, then horiztal support at 3.81 got taken out on the print of 3.80, where you sold for a very minor loss.

That's EXCELLENT trading!

Where is support now?  We don't know.  ???

It could be anywhere in that channel that broke out to the upside on November 7, or it could be a lot lower.

"When in doubt...get out" isn't a bad idea.

The channel broke out above validated resistance (#5) at about 3.55.  That put about 4.45 IN PLAY, which MADE within a few pennies (the high was 4.48).

Math for the Bull Channel:

4.00 - High of the channel
3.10 - Low of the channel

4.00 - 3.10 = 0.90 Points + 3.55 breakout = Target: 4.45.

That "could be" it on the upside for awhile.  You might want to watch, and see if another Bullish pattern emerges.

Good luck, everybody!
