Conexant Unveils Solution for Satellite PC TV Applications
Thursday March 9, 8:00 am ET
World's First PCI PC TV Reference Platform to Support Newest DVB-S2 Video Broadcast and Advanced Modulation and Coding Standards

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 9, 2006--Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CNXT - News), a worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications and the digital home, today announced the world's first satellite television receiver card reference platform based on the industry's newest digital video broadcast standard, DVB-S2, for personal computers (PCs). It is targeted at manufacturers developing products that allow subscribers to watch, record and replay satellite broadcast programs on their PC. The new solution is based on two Conexant set-top box (STB) solutions and one PC video device. These include the world's first digital video broadcast DVB-S2 demodulator and forward error correction (FEC) decoder, a third-generation 8PSK satellite tuner, and a PCI audio/video (AV) broadcast decoder. The two STB devices enable the capture and processing of satellite broadcast programming, and the AV decoder converts and transports the video stream so it can be viewed on a PC.

"By combining our advanced set-top box components with our market-leading PC video technology, we provide a complete system solution for PC television applications," said Jeff Crosby, vice president and general manager of Conexant's Broadband Media Processing business. "This integrated reference platform solution allows manufacturers to significantly reduce their product development time and capitalize on early market opportunities in this rapidly growing industry segment."

About the PC TV Receiver Card

Conexant's new PC TV receiver card incorporates two front-end STB devices. The CX24116 DVB-S2 demodulator and FEC decoder leverages key developments in channel coding and modulation to provide up to a 30 percent capacity increase over the previous DVB-S standard. It has been shipping in high-volume quantities for more than a year. The second STB chip is the company's CX24118 direct down-conversion satellite tuner. This device provides the radio frequency performance necessary for the complex 8PSK advanced modulation and coding specifications.

The third device is the CX23883 PCI audio/video broadcast decoder, which enables analog and digital audio/video capture, display, or record and playback at a later time through software or hardware audio/video codecs.

The reference design is backward-compatible with the previous DVB-S and DSS standards. This allows manufacturers to use a single platform to develop products for multiple industry standards, which allows them to maximize their engineering resources and lower overall manufacturing and design costs. Schematics, layout files, and evaluation boards with production-ready device drivers are included with the reference design.

Conexant is a leading provider of STB solutions, offering a comprehensive suite of digital components and system solutions for worldwide satellite, terrestrial and cable entertainment broadcasting networks. Products include silicon tuners, satellite demodulators, MPEG audio and video decoders, and dial-up modems for back-channel applications. Reference designs that help manufacturers reduce cost and speed time-to-market are also available, bundled with a range of operating systems, middleware, drivers and development tools.

The company is also the world's No. 1 supplier of PC video solutions. Conexant's accomplishments include creating the PCI video decoder category, introducing the industry's first single-chip MPEG audio/video codec, delivering the world's most widely deployed MPEG audio/video encoder, and launching the first single-chip video encoder and digital video interface (DVI) transmitter.

Conexant Expands Fiber Optic Access Semiconductor Portfolio
Wednesday March 29, 8:00 am ET
Leading-Edge Family of Controllers Enables Next-Generation Triple-Play Services over Passive Optical Networks

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 2006--Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CNXT - News), a worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications and the digital home, today expanded its broadband access product portfolio with a new family of system-on-chip (SoC) controllers for passive optical networks (PON). The CX9520X "Xenon II" family of controllers is designed for optical network units (ONUs) on the client-side of fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP), multi-dwelling-unit (MDU) and fiber-to-the-node (FTTN) EPON/GE-PON applications. PON is used by service providers worldwide to provide a high-speed "last mile" connection from the central office (CO) to homes and businesses over a fiber optic cable, and enables the cost-effective delivery of triple-play voice, video and data services.

Support for voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), as well as IP multicasting is included to facilitate real-time IP voice and video applications. Coupled with the company's market-leading Accelity VDSL2 chipset, Xenon II provides service providers with a cost-effective system solution for FTTN and MDU applications. In addition, Xenon II controllers can be used with the company's media processing, wireless LAN and home networking chipsets to deliver quality of service (QoS) on every link of the home network. QoS refers to a network system's ability to sustain a given service at or above its required minimum performance level.

"Fiber networks provide virtually unlimited bandwidth, which makes them ideal for delivering voice, video and data traffic," said Akram Atallah, senior vice president and general manager of Conexant's Broadband Access business unit. "Demand for triple-play services is growing, but a lower price point on the client-side is necessary to drive widespread deployment and consumer adoption. Xenon II meets this need, delivering high-performance and key optical networking features that support the complete delivery of broadband triple-play services to the digital home."

"Network operators worldwide are looking to quickly scale PON installations to facilitate the transition from simple data-only to advanced triple-play voice, video and data services," said Ian Eigenbrod, senior research analyst with IDC. "However, both PON infrastructure and equipment costs remain an obstacle to greater deployments. Highly integrated silicon solutions with advanced QoS features will be key to providing the combination of lower system costs and improved performance needed to accelerate market growth."

Additional features include Conexant's complete protocol stack, which enables the seamless integration of new features, reduces customer development costs, streamlines product development, and reduces time to market.

Conexant is the market leader in broadband access semiconductor solutions, and has shipped more than 150 million DSL ports worldwide. The company's central office and customer premises equipment semiconductor solutions include a full range of standards-based integrated circuits, software and reference designs for asymmetric and symmetric DSL applications including ADSL2plus, SHDSL and VDSL2.

Availability and Pricing

The Xenon II processor family is sampling now, with production quantities scheduled for May 2006. Prices begin at $26.50 for high-volume applications.

folks...keep an eye on CNXT...It's looking all set to break 52 week high of $3.60 tomorrow (last trde in AH today was $3.58).

I picked this one for the latest edition of the contest...but it fell into a pullback/consolidation zone and is breaking out now.

$4.00 will be very easy to reach IMO....also, JDSU and CNXT have traded on par for a while and now it;s time for CNXT to play catch up with JDSU (which had a red day today, while CNXT saw a green close!)

In fact, looking at 2 yr weekly chart, there was a huge gap down (remained unfilled) back in July 2004. It gapped down from $4.00 to $2.60 in a few days. After we break $3.60 tomorrow, we will easily go to $4.00, but there will be stiff resistance there and we gotta watch out for volume to help break us out and above $4.00

good luck folks...i'm not in right now, but will be looking closely.  :)

Bullish Price Channel (continuation) Pattern
Price channel is a continuation pattern that slopes up or down and is bound by an upper and lower trend line. The upper trend line marks resistance and the lower trend line marks support. Price channels with negative slopes (down) are considered bearish and those with positive slopes (up) bullish. For explanatory purposes, a "bullish price channel" will refer to a channel with positive slope and a "bearish price channel" to a channel with negative slope.

In a bullish price channel, some traders look to buy when prices reach main trend line support. Conversely, some traders look to sell (or short) when prices reach main trend line resistance in a bearish price channel. As with most price patterns, other aspects of technical analysis should be used to confirm signals.

Because technical analysis is just as much art as it is science, there is room for flexibility. Even though exact trend line touches are ideal, it is up to each individual to judge the relevance and placement of both the main trend line and the channel line. By that same token, a channel line that is exactly parallel to the main trend line is ideal.

Bullish Price Channel: Subsequent touches along the main trend line offered good buying opportunities
